No pls I just saw someone on tik tok selling a "handmade" rose + mugwort tea claiming it's magical.
I don't drink normal tea cause caffeine gives me heart issues so I drink herbal teas instead, including mugwort. First of, it's dirt cheap IF you buy it yourself, second, it's a pretty basic herb, sure, great for many health stuff but???
And someone in the comments was like "I tried lucid dreaming with this and it didn't work". Like??? Obviously???

Abnormal - Tighnari
Gender neutral reader, reader is the same species as Tighnari but appears to be human. they join the forest rangers and they feel a connection with Tighnari, only to have issues when their father comes along. Angst with a fluff ending. Suggestive content, nothing nsfw is described though!
--
"You cheated on me?" Your father yelled at your mother, who had just given birth to you.
"I swear, I didn't!" She retorts, everyone looking over to see the argument happening.
"Really? Because that thing looks Human to me!" He tuts, crossing his arms.
After testing, it was found that you were biologically a child of theirs. You were the first child, and this made them fear the idea of all their children looking like a human. When your sibling came along, long ears and tail, they immediately picked a favourite. You never got attention from them, being ignored when you did something good, and your sibling was always praised. You grew to hate everything that you didn't have. The fact your parents were neglecting you socially because of the fact you didn't visibly look like you were part of the same species as them. Your sibling had the same close minded opinion that your parents had, judging you because you didn't look like they were your family.
You applied for jobs, and almost all places denied you when your parents decided to get their "superior child" to apply as well. Your sibling always got the offer, you being rejected, and you were beginning to fear the prospect of being unemployed and being used as an example.
To your pleasure, however, you were accepted for a position as a trainee forest ranger. You leap on the chance, not bothering to tell your parents as you packed a bag and left after checking you had all of your necessary papers.
You see Master Tighnari, and you immediately felt like he was your soulmate. You were so drawn to him, and he didn't seem to know about your unfortunate situation with your family. Sure, he was sassy and borderline rude in certain situations, but you grew to like this side of him.
--
Your dad had shown up in the forest when you and Tighnari were on patrol.
"Ah, Master Tighnari!" Your father calls out, you immediately flinching before turning to leave. Tighnari grabs your shoulder, effectively stopping you. "I'm here for the order of mushrooms you promised me."
"Of course. _, fetch the crates for me while I explain what not to use these mushrooms for." Tighnari asks.
"No." You protest, crossing your arms.
"Excuse me?" Tighnari laughs out, shocked at your response.
"I'm not doing that for him of all people." You eye your father up and down.
"Why not? Whats so different about this man? The fact he has big ears? A big tail?" Tighnari tuts. "You might want to get your eyes tested, because I have those features as well."
"Such a bigoted brat." Your father tuts, you realising what he was trying to do. You walk away, hearing Tighnari apologise for your actions before calling for someone to collect the crates.
That night, Tighnari walked towards you with a fire in his eyes.
"What on earth was that about?" Tighnari asks. "Are you prejudiced towards my kind? I thought better of you, I truly did." He huffs, holding his finger up the moment you open your mouth to explain your situation. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to write you up for this. This is not appropriate, you are supposed to assist people regardless of how they were born."
Before you can explain anything, Tighnari walks away shaking his head.
--
"What do you mean, 'you need more proof you are in need of this medication'?" You gasp, the seller of the medicine you needed to take to avoid your animalistic heats to work as usual.
"Well, we've had people reselling for significantly higher prices I'm afraid to say." The seller shrugs. "You look human, and paperwork can easily be falsified."
You look down at your paper proving your parents were both the species you were, along with the bloodwork to prove it. How come this was no longer effective evidence with this guy? You bought from him multiple times, and this is the time he decides to change it?
--
"Get an earful of this!" Tighnari grumbles, Cyno next to him. "'Im afraid my heat is starting'? They are human, it's utterly pathetic that they're using a valid reason for my kind!"
"...May I have a look at this?" Cyno asks. Tighnari nods, and Cyno pulls out a piece of paper to compare against the letter. "Keep an open mind, Tighnari. You don't have all the information."
"You're telling me to keep an open mind when they're the one to be such a bigot?" Tighnari raises a brow, Cyno shrugging before leaving for his work.
The next day, you were unable to get out of bed. Wanting to scream at how hot you felt in the moment, wanting to cry because you wanted to get some sort of comfort from someone, wanting to call out for Tighnari as if he was your mate. You're wrapped up in a bundle of blankets, none of them creating any comfort for you. You scream into your pillow, thinking of the days you'll be suffering alone from this. You would be lucky if anyone brought you supplies to get through this, let alone Tighnari.
Meanwhile, Tighnari had picked up on a particularly strong odour. It wasn't unpleasant, it drew him in, but he was confused when he sensed it coming from your house. As much as he wanted to come along to at least see if you were lazing around like he suspected, he had to deal with several emergencies.
It takes him two days to complete this, and in that time the scent grew stronger and you still hadn't shown up. He picks up some supplies - water, food, medicine - before telling the team he's going along to check on you.
He approaches the door, hearing you crying out in pain. You were clearly suffering, and he looked into the window to see you were curled up as tightly as you could. You couldn't create tears, dry crying as you were silently screaming for any assistance. After assessing the room and realising you lived alone and nobody else was there, he begins to connect the dots Cyno seemed to know from the start.
He opens the door, you looking up out of shock as you see him approaching you. His scent is euphoric for you, and you really had to hold yourself back from pulling him in for comfort.
Tighnari prioritised hydrating and feeding you before sitting on the bed, pulling you in to start hugging you. He feels you gripping at him, and he looks over at a paper that glided down to the floor. The paperwork contained your mother and father's names, and he realised the true reason you didn't help that man.
"That was your dad that day, wasn't it?" Tighnari asked, you nodding as you held him close.
"I'm sorry, I know I should have explained my circumstances the first day I was here." You whimper out, Tighnari wrapping his tail around you. "I went to get my medication, but they changed their policies. My paperwork isn't enough now, I have to physically prove it now." You cry out, Tighnari kissing you on the cheek.
"I'm going to stay with you to get you through his cycle." Tighnari explains, holding you closer as he begins to place his head into the crook of your neck.
"... I'm going to need more than a cuddle session to get through this." You sheepishly admit, Tighnari smirking knowingly.
"Of course you will." Tighnari responds. "And I, as a partner, am going to get you through this."
--
After your cycle was past its worst, Tighnari was able to give you the medicine you normally took to suppress these symptoms. He also pulled some strings to order some extra medicine after explaining your special circumstances. When your father next showed up, Tighnari made sure he wouldn't insult you for being a 'defective child'.
Your parents, eventually, discovered you became very close to Tighnari. They can't help but show up, asking Tighnari if he knew you were an 'abnormal individual', and you hear Tighnari slapping them on the head with logic. He did some research, and it turns out you just happened to be born with a recessive gene that removed the physical features - you were still very much a hybrid like him. He hands your parents the references he used, telling them to educate themselves before talking down about their child.
Tighnari became your mate, and it was the best thing that could have happened to you. He, unlike your parents, educated himself when he was alerted to your situation. Cyno had actually been a big part of finding the research, him being the first one to figure out your situation since he spotted you getting your medication the cycle before the one you were unable to do so. Cyno became your friend as well, defending you when someone started badmouthing you when you and Tighnari became public.

ITS ME ITS ME IM GLONK
I HAVE ANOTHER SIREN IDEA
So: i was learning about art forgery earlier this year, and my professor was mentioning how because of the elitism in the art world, some artists are forced to turn to forgery because no one will pay large amounts of money for art that doesn't have a famous name/history attached to it. SO they'll copy other people's artstyles and say they found this "Leonardo Da Vinci" work in some abandoned attic somewhere and sell it (now obviously because DaVinvi is so famous, it would be pretty hard to sell that lie, but you know what I mean. maybe a buttersworth painting. idk).
...And you can launder money with art forgeries: somebody could buy a forgery with money achieved through nefarious means (dirty money), then resell it for the same (or a higher) price. Now they have the same amount/more money, but it was achieved through legitimate means so its harder to track down/make a case against it in court.
Anyway: The Syndicate catches some broke ass college student on their territory, but they are a damn quick thinker and say that they have connections in crime to spare themselves. The student tells them that they have contact with this guy Anonymous, who provides art forgeries that the Syndicate can then sell and keep their money trail clean (especially useful, when in their civilian disguise. all that money is suspicious...). What the student ISN'T telling them is that they aren't just the middleman for Anonymous' works, they ARE Anonymous (because, if the Syndicate got sick of them and knew that there was only just one person involved in the business, they could just kill that one person. But if they think there's multiple, they'd have to keep the student alive to get to Anonymous).
Maybe Siren finds out that its the student who is doing the paintings, and they bond over their artistic interests; him being a musician, them being a painter.
Or, ALTERNATE SCENARIO: There IS a mafia that the Syndicate is dealing with, and the mafia agrees to set them up with one of their greatest contributors. Obviously Siren is sent to talk with this mysterious associate-- since he's very persuasive-- and instead of finding some shady, powerful crimelord, he finds a worn out, paint-splattered college student wearing J O R T S in a shitty apartment. they don't even react when they see him they're just used to it at this point.
i might un-anonymize myself soon idk

GLONK YOUR BRAIN IS HUGE OH MY GOD
firstly, always feel free to spam my inbox with ideas, they make me happy to see and i love coming home or having a minute to read through them and reading it like the daily paper, it’s my favorite part of the day
secondly!!!!! AHHHH okay the whole thing abt hiding the fact that this broke college student is actually like an amazing art dealer and like potentially dangerous is so juicy. like
student: “yeah, Anonymous is crazy. they once stabbed someone and used their blood to sign a painting because it was the only color they could get to match a specific red tone that Van Gogh used” knowing damn well it was actually their own blood because they cut their finger opening up a box of new paints, causing the red to splatter on the floor
siren: “wow… this Anonymous person must be dangerous. how are you so calm around them? not to sound rude… but you dont strike me as the fighting type”
student: *think fast think fast, i cant let them know i make most of the forgeries or that i am Anonymous* “we’re lovers”
siren: “what.”
i feel like techno would be the first one to figure it out, and wilbur would be dead last. techno knew the minute he met you but just kept quiet about it, phil realized when he monitored your activity for a day and noticed how you’d be mimicking famous artists, tommy realized because student told him, and wilbur didn’t believe it for a second until he literally showed up to a meeting Anonymous had set up, watched as they tried to kidnap them, resulting in their mask being knocked off and siren was like OH FUCKIN SHIT OH NO
but i also love the second alternate part bc siren’s heard all these stories about anonymous’s ability to replicate artists exactly and how skilled they are, and then student opens the door and is just like “okay. siren is here. totally normal.”
siren’s like “i need you to do something for me”
student just scoffs “yeah? you’re going to have to wait, i have to finish a painting for my niece. she asked me to paint her favorite barbie doll” fully serious and siren is just like ??????? and considers using his voice but is just curious and wants to watch you work so just sits back and watches.
also LOVE the concept of the anteater paintings. wilbur is just staring around in anger and annoyance and student is just there, grinning evilly and watching bc they know he wont say anything about it so it’s funny.

ALSO I need some advice for selling tickets:
I have 2 standard tickets I want to sell for Jan 29th's show in Manchester (going on a different date) and I just wanna know what reselling on ticketmaster itself is like? These seats are together, but ticketmaster said it might seperate them which is really annoying for people looking to sit together. I saw that I can choose a set price for selling, but does anyone know if it adds on any extra fees to the ticket price? I really want them to be face value price, no higher. Thing is, even if there is another way of selling like through paypal or something, ticketmaster doesn't have the option to transfer these particular tickets?? Which I'm super confused about?? ? I'd love some advice for this because I really want to make sure genuine fans will get these tickets and not some scummy resellers who'll sell them again for an extortionate price.
I'm aware there's some third party websites where you can sell your tickets there but I'm not sure I trust them.

Saltminers - - ->🧍
Guys no please don’t misunderstand the issue. The UMA reselling complaint thing is about people who buy UMA’s FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF reselling them at a higher price to make a profit off of. It’s about people who do this on purpose at the expense of the UMA artists.
If you sell a UMA after the fact because you have just lost interest, traded/sold it to a friend who wanted it more, accidentally listed it at a high price because you didn’t know how to price it, gifted it to someone, used it as a prize in a raffle/dom contest, etc etc etc. It’s not the same thing.
Also for people who genuinely want to figure out how to price them, you can just search up the user who made the UMA and check to see if they still have a skincent shop to see what their original price was. You could also ask on the forums for pricing help as well.
To clarify because expressing tone is difficult, especially through anonymous messages on a reama blog, and I know people will still somehow misunderstand: This is to ease the guilt people were feeling not to target you guys for misunderstanding, not to attack! It’s okay if you misunderstood. Just know that you did nothing wrong by reselling something you didn’t want anymore. It’s only an issue when people target UMA artists to exploit them on purpose.

https://www.tumblr.com/terraliensvent/752357240651005952/keamuu-is-even-catching-some-shade-from-regular?source=share
iirc keamuu asks for permission from the original artists if she can redesign them and resell the designs for higher, which makes me feel a little better about her doing it. she's posted proof of it on her instagram reels before. though i do thing it's still shitty that she gets to make hundreds of dollars by just adding boobs to a design lol but i guess it's like buying a car and then adding a bunch of shit to it and reselling it for higher
to keep this terra related, i do wonder how she's gonna stay a mod if she's been focusing on her new species. not saying she isn't allowed to have other projects but she ALREADY doesn't do much for terras other than sell designs?
post related
fair enough, but i wish she would at least post the proof of her getting permission like, on the adopt page because its really sketchy the way shes doing it now.
and i mean, despite the “legality” of it i guess, personally it still skeeves me out. i know there are some artists that dont really care if their designs are upsold even with nothing added at all, i think my personal issue is more with how kea presents it like shes tooootally making the design all unique now and that definitely justifies a price hike of $400
its weird to me that even though upselling is a huge taboo, keamuu just gets to do whatever because people love to suck the farts out of her ass
and i agree with your last point too, look on the keamuu tag on here and a lot of people dont really know what kea actually does for terras besides rake in a big paycheck, it would be one thing if she was like best species admin ever but ive really never seen her take on any sort of admin role, for a while i didnt even know she wasnt just a mod

Hazey's rules for adopting ocs
Rules for when you're adopting characters from me 1. Always give credit! And I mean proper credit, not just "o credit 2 original creator" and not misspellings and shortened versions of my usernames. It needs to be one of my full usernames on one of the sites I use most (Weasyl and Linktree for example) and if possible, link back if you can! 2. Do NOT steal. The character needs to be bought before you do anything with it. No buts! You have to buy before using it. I don't want to have to put up with shoplifters thank you very much. ¬.¬ 3. Don't complain about the prices. Art is expensive. Deal with it. 4. No begging or asking stuff for free. This includes asking to lower prices, change the way of payment, giving points instead of actual money. No means no, so don't be a spoilt brat please. 5. Be nice or I'm not giving you my characters. Simple as that. 6. Chances are it might not be first come, first serve. I want my characters to go to loving homes, so if you’re buying the character, please tell me what you’re going to do with it. whoever plans to give the most development to the character will get to buy it 7. I accept payments of all currencies. Well, at least I think so.. ^w^; The prices are listed in great british pounds but don't worry! That doesn't mean you have to pay in pounds ^w^ As long as it's a real currency, you can pay! 8. No collectors allowed. Please don't buy this character just to hoard it into your oc collection.. OCs are not "rare collectables", they are not rare toy collectable action figures that you "gotta collect em all". Please don't buy them if you're only gonna use it just for display reasons only. I don't want to sell a character I worked hard on designing, only to be hoarded into your oc action figure collection. I want all my characters to go to loving homes where they have some sort of role as a character. I just want them to be loved and used, that's all.. :< 9. I have the right to refuse your purchase. If I am not comfortable giving away my characters to you, I have the right to refuse. Please don't take it by heart, I'm sure you'll find other characters out there! If you've already paid after I said no, you will be refunded. Like I said, I may need to learn how because I am still very new to paypal 10. Once bought, you may use this character how you like! Art, animation, stories, fursuits, plushies, figures, you name it! It's all yours once you buy it so do what you want! ^w^ You can make it a sona (aka self insert), hero, villain, main oc, background oc, imaginary friend, sfw, nsfw, anything you like! The only limits is these rules and how far your imagination can take you, so let your creativity run wild! :D 11. Feel free to change the name, gender, etc. If the character already has a bio filled out, you may change it to your own liking if you prefer. The bio is just a starter guide to help with starting out development for your character. You are more than welcome to keep some of the info or change it however you like! 12. You can make small adjustments. Things like scars, outfits, notched ears, missing limbs, wings, antlers, horns, slight change of markings is totally fine! However I wouldn't recommend completely redesigning a character to something completely different like a whole new species and colours, it just seems like a waste of money to buy a design then make it look nothing like the original imo but it's really up to you I guesss.. :/ 13. Please don't instantly resell once bought. Buying adopts only to sell them again is not cool. Do NOT sell them for a higher price than what I've already given, that's scamming. No more than what you paid for. 14. Refunds are a huge maybe. Once bought, there's a chance that you may or may not be able to return it. Unless it's my own species, if it has a fursuit, custom plush, and other physical items, then there's a chance that it might not be able to be returned due to complications. Feel free to sell it for the same price or cheaper however! But no higher than what you bought it for. That's unless you've given the character alot of art and media since you bought it. But if it still has the same amount of media when you got it, then you need to sell it no higher than how much you bought it for, because that isn't fair on their creator. 15. Do not give or sell my characters to blacklisted users. Blacklisted users are banished from taking part on my sites, games, livestreams, events etc, and are forbidden to receive any future works from me. By giving my works to a blacklisted user, you aswell will also be proven untrustworthy aswell as blocked and blacklisted. By purchasing a character from me, you hereby agree with all rules and promise to follow them. Breaking any of these rules will result in consequences. I work hard on all my creations and put alot of love and effort into making them. Yes that includes art for others! And I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them :3 You will be asked the magic word which is whammy zammy. Don't forget to include it when you ask to purchase! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I've been working really hard on saving up for my hopes and dreams cos I've been trying to make up for my rough past by trying to aim for a good future. So by purchasing from me, you are helping me, a vulnerable and disabled person, aim for a better future. Thank you for your support! ◠ω◠💛
Please be nice when commenting! I refuse to be criticised so please accept that. If you're gonna be mean, don't say anything at all. Thankies for checking out my post! Meep meep! ヽ(◕ヮ◕)ノ I'm on other places too! ^-^

Your NightOwl #042
If you were to plot the prevalance of organized crime across history, what would that graph look like?
My first instinct is to say that it should go from bottom left to top right- Pweople getting more crooked, more corrupt, everything going down the can as time goes on.(#`Д´)
But after giving it a little more thought, (and after having eaten lunch,)amidst my newfound positivity i thought, "Couldn't it be just the opposite?" ♡( ◡‿◡ )
Crime gets harder and harder to get away with as technology improves- and improvements in how fast goods and information can travel helps make the global playing field getting more equal, if not less psychotically competitive.
And now, after having taken a nap
i realize neither are even close to correct. ( ̄□ ̄」)
Because crime, especially the large scale organized type, isn't influenced by technology or the progression of society- it's really only ever been dependent on economics.
Tumblr media
The heyday, as it were, for organized crime came in the early 20th century- between wars and depressions and plagues and the stock market - we saw higher highs and lower lows than ever thought possible.
There were other blips on the radar after that of course- regime changes, speculative bubbles, empires falling and unions collapsing- but through it all, wherever the money went, crime followed soon after.
And it's no different in the 21st century.
Because even more important than the stock market or the price of grain in this conversation is the level of unemployment- which spiked massively in the 30's and 40's as early automated systems wiped out entire sectors.
The language models that passed for ear-tifical antelly-gents back then drove a spike between the haves and the have nots; paying one guy to scrape data from another guy's life's work, then training a bot on that data and firing the first two guys anyway. It was a shortsighted fool's goldrush where every middle manager on earth raced against each other to disprove their own relevance as fast as possible. (°ロ°) ! The global economy remodeled itself into a system based mostly on theft. So for your average unemployed joe shmoe, reselling tech that fell off the back of a truck must've seemed like the most honest work in the world. (^_<)〜☆
The inverted bubble didn't last. ヾ( ̄◇ ̄)ノ〃 llms were eventually recognized as the technological dead end they always were, and "automatically generated" went from impressive to trendy to tacky to gross in just a few short years-
But the damage was done- the social contract between "job creators" and real human beings now had a big gash torn through it- and ever since, mom and pop mafias and grassroots mobsters have fiercely guarded the niche of the economy they tore out for themselves.
If you don't believe organized crime is just as real as ever, just try and introduce androids to a "close-knit" industry like shipping. They'll send your free trial bots back to you in a compact, melted-down cube of slag before the first shift even ends.
Now i don't condone that kind of thing. It's violent and immature, and they should take their frustration out on the people trying to replace them, not the bots they bring in to do the replacing.
But as somewhat of a historian, i can see the appeal.
friend of the family, your nightowl

the "contentification" of thrifting is something that really irks me recently. I'm not sure if I can explain it because I don't think I'm done thinking it through but... for mw thrifting has always been about finding good quality pieces which I need. And in my head I think it is ... a shame/waste to see people on TikTok make content out of thrifting. I guess it might be more along the lines of my utter dislike of hauls and haul videos as they support and promote consumerism on a terrible level. But also thrifting haul just means someone bought a lot of clothes at a good price which they might not even need... they just bought it because it's going to look nice on video and then it will hang in their wardrobe because no one actually needs that many pairs of jeans. All the while someone who might actually need that clothes no longer has access to it.
Idk just rubs me the wrong way I guess because I've been on this track of really minimising what I buy. Especially when it comes to clothes, if I can't see it be part of an outfit then it's not being bought. And I'm also going through the stuff I own and will give away things I havent worn in a while. Or donate. We'll see. Which is also why I find it annoying when I see people resell their hauls because... well, ok they might actually do some work and make the items better which is great. But some of them don't. They just resell it at a higher price (I assume).

there is not a single thing you can "invest" in on fr that'll hold value other than treasure and gems, scrolls, g1/g2 imps, and low digit dragons. maybe ks stuff but if you own ks stuff you probably do not need to invest.
scrolls will always have a minimum sell price. you may or may not make money, but you won't lose it. low digit dragons are less reliable because the value of any dragon is subjective and the price is really only what people are willing to pay for them. the only saving grace is that the supply is not going up.
dragons, even g1s and triples and doubles etc etc etc are being created every day. the supply only goes up, even more with roundsey. special eyed dragons crashed the same day scattervials crashed. lineage dragons are valuable only so much as the buyer cares about the lineage and the only ones that people really care about are naomi and ignis. heck, i have a naomi descendant
fest doesn't retire anymore. it gets harder to acquire, but it doesn't retire. even retired fest regularly gets new copies via roundsey. old fest also crashed (slightly) due to joxar - if you think sunchasers are soooo beautiful but now joxar has cindersphere baubles for a single candy coin, you are getting the baubles. the only reason you go for sunchasers at that point is if you are super picky, or doing a challenge, or want them as a status symbol.
fiona dropped demand for retired fams massively. if all you care about is completing the bestiary, you can do it now without shelling out for sprites. elimantes crashed with galore, scattervials crashed with normal vials, i don't know if invisibility cloaks have crashed yet but you know they're gonna in about *checks calender* eleven months. eggs rise and fall but the top price has been going down for years.
the uma market is massively inflated. limited skins, tons of recolors, higher prices (600g is barely unusual for an accent now) (not gonna get into stuff about artist skill and subjective value but like. that did not used to be the norm), fomo, customs commissioned just to auction later or even immediately. did i mention fomo?
if you want to get rich, get into dom and flip fodder or grind. you can always buy fest stuff and resell it later for a profit but godamn dude its a game. the devs are actively invested in making stuff easier for people to get, that's the whole point. prices going down or at least rising slower is good. stop hoarding eggs for resell and liquidate already.
mildly related: the lorwolf economy is chaos rn, because its existed for less than a week. this is supposed to happen. people are already over there freaking out because it's not behaving like a mature economy with established prices and stable ratios rn. calm down. give it time. the cross site trading is not helping btw.

Need to talk about my Rae Dunn experience as a former TJ Maxx employee for those who don’t know of it.
So if you don’t know what Rae Dunn is, you’ve probably seen it. It’s (usually) egg shell white pottery with a font I recently learned is known as The Skinny. Occasionally they have themed pottery that is a different color or has a themed topper or shape to it but is typically just a very boring set of pottery.

The only thing is, originally before mass production each piece was hand made by Rae Dunn herself before she started mass production (although people still say it is handmade by someone) so the pottery has an allure of uniqueness marketed with it. Because of this and the minimalism craze, people flock to buy these.
The only thing is that Rae Dunn herself has not done personal commissions through her Etsy in some time and has outsourced to mass production, although through certain stores, and while this has not deterred her loyal fans, this means that there are only select places to buy them: Second hand sites and TJX company stores (i.e. Marshall’s, TJMaxx, Home Goods, etc.).
Because of the sudden convenience of your local discount department store selling your favorite bleak vessel for coffee, people didn’t just flock to stores but would stalk them. I remember that, everyday, as we did our morning meet before opening the store, we saw multiple people standing outside watching and waiting, always the same people too, ready to get whatever was newest on the Rae Dunn shelf. It got so bad that, while I’m not sure if this is still practice, for a while the only way to obtain Rae Dunn was in person, because people would take all of the product online immediately. I remember a coworker having to clean the oil off of one of the doors, where a customer pressed her face against the glass and held it there for the entirety of our meeting.
There was also a special colored cart (so we wouldn’t confuse it) that was strictly for Rae Dunn glassware/pottery and we were not allowed to place Rae Dunn glassware/pottery on any other cart. This was because the Rae Dunn cart was always the first thing pushed out onto the floor, hours before opening. We had to do this because while we would push regular products on carts during opening no problem, if we had any visible Rae Dunn, people would pluck entire boxes of Rae Dunn off of it and carry it their merry way. As soon as we opened, what Rae Dunn was on the floor was the Rae Dunn we had on the floor for the day, no restocking period.
There were rules to dealing with Rae Dunn and Rae Dunn customers as well: You were not allowed go say Rae Dunn on the floor in case they heard you. Employees were allowed to buy any product BUT Rae Dunn which was strictly forbidden as several customers would apply entirely to get Rae Dunn. If a Rae Dunner approached you asking about Rae Dunn you could only point them in the right direction and walk away as fast as possible.
You might ask what the allure was besides the very flimsy excuse of “unique” pieces of pottery. The real reason they did this, beyond being hobbyists for these products, was to resell them to other hobbyists for MUCH higher prices.

Btw, as far as memory serves, most mugs and plates were typically $4.99-7.99. (It’s possible that changed but. Again. I cannot look up the TJX online prices lol)
Not to mention, there were certain products that did go together but were never put together in a set. This meant that it would be a hunt to collect the entire matching set, which was the real prize to these obsessive Rae Dunners. It’s so bad that one time while I was going down this rabbit hole, I actually stumbled onto a message board dedicated to tracking shipments of Rae Dunn.
While this could all be centralized to my store when I worked there, I thought it was fucking wild. I saw fights get broken up between Rae Dunners. I saw friendships ruined for Rae Dunn.

"whoa. adam smith and karl marx agreed on x!" bro they were economist philosophers, sometimes things are just objective statements about the world. they both "agreed" that landlord produce nothing of their own and instead make money off of reselling housing at a higher price, keeping the lower classes from owning property because... thats true? anyone who knows shit about money wouldnt argue against it
niche pet peeve, but modern philosophers usually just interpret information, not argue about how many teeth women have

No one cares but I'm thinking about it now so my thoughts on all of the major platforms for clothing reselling.
ime Grailed is the best in terms of available brands/items, price, etc. Nice selection to just browse through. I've found the best prices on there as well. I do dislike how they display the brand information for an item and the general page layout is kind of ugly imo. The app looks nicer though but still not amazing.
Depop feels kind of sketchy in a way that I can't fully articulate. I think it's probably just because it's the trendiest one, so it has the most people. They also are a bit too big so there's more garbage to sift through. Prices seem to vary a great deal from seller to seller. Also seems very common for people to request to do sales off-site to avoid fees, which doesn't help the sketchy vibe lol.
Poshmark I haven't used much, mostly I've found specific items I was looking for on there randomly. Seems like it has less selection so it's not as nice to browse, but if searching for a specific thing it can come through. Prices seem higher than average.
eBay is good but too big if anything. They'll have the most fakes, the most bootleg items, the most irrelevant stuff to what you're looking for and the most stuff that you just don't like. If you're looking for a specific thing or specific brand or whatever, they can be great. But it can be more work finding things. Prices vary significantly from obviously fake to massively overpriced.
I've sold on Depop, Poshmark and eBay, but I've never used any of them regularly enough to have much of an opinion. I'm sure the fees vary and level of support probably varies, but from just selling a few things occasionally over the years, they're all basically the same in my mind. Actually eBay was annoying because iirc, they didn't take out the fees from what I was paid, but billed me for the fees at a later date. I don't like that, but some people might. I'd probably use Grailed now if I were wanting to seling something just because I do like them most to shop with now.
I was kind of curious about fees, so I did do a bit of research. The general consensus seems to be that Grailed is the best in terms of fees? Also maybe worth nothing is someone mentioned that Grailed is better for menswear, so that may also be coloring my experience.
Oh also Etsy and Mercari both exist and have some things but neither are primarily that. Etsy obviously is more focused towards crafts/homemade items/some resell stuff and Mercari is more like an online thrift store. It's actually amazing for finding random shit for way cheap, but probably not clothing specifically.
