Favourite Japanese releases of 2018

Time to list my favourite albums for Japanese and Korean music from 2018. Previous years are here.

ACME - 絶唱謳歌

They are definitely growing on me. There were no bad songs on this album and I had a hunch the first time I listened to the album that it might end up on my list. I liked the title song 絶唱謳歌 when I first time saw the mv and  アナザーワールド caught my attention the first time I heard the album and it became my favourite Acme song. Other songs I enjoyed were paradox and 金欠マイレージ.

DADAROMA - dadaism#4

I liked all the releases they had this year and it wasn’t easy to pick a favourite. This is not the first time a version of dadaism is on my list.「トゥルリラ」 was the first song after their short hiatus so it made me happy they’re back with great music! The first seconds of 蛍 reminds me of the game Corpse Party for some reason and I like that. For a bit slower song キスをしよう is my pick!

Golden Bomber - キラーチューンしかねえよ

They might be more of a comedy band but the music is surprisingly good for a lot of times. I especially like the relatable lyrics of やさしくしてね and heartwarming for ドンマイ, not to mention the brilliance of 誕生日でも結婚式でも使える歌. As for more sound wise I liked #CDが売れないこんな世の中じゃ and お前を-KOROSU- a lot.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - じゃぱみゅ

原宿いやほい was one of my favourite songs from previous year so it’s still one of them. キズナミ and きみのみかた are fun songs (and the mv of the latter one is fun too). ちゃみ ちゃみ ちゃーみん is a song I like to sing along to and とどけぱんち is a cute song with a nice beat.

LM.C - Future Sensation

It felt like ages to hear new music and I’m so glad they’re still around since no one else sounds like them. The title song ChainDreamers and Brainwashing sound like anime opening songs (which they do well). Songs like Intersection and Nothing are great examples of how good their electric music and guitars sound together. Door! and Dystopia stand out too because of their rhythm.

Plastic Tree - doorAdore

I can’t get over how good the first track 遠国 sounds like (that magical guitar!!), everytime I started the album I kinda got stuck on this song. It’s so beautiful but so is 静かの海. いろつき is a long song but brings a more happier tune to the album. Other favourites are upbeat song like サイレントノイズ and 残映.

REIGN - 至極

The band released a full album this year but I can’t help being more attracted to this single. I really enjoyed both of the songs. ゆらり might be my favourite title song by them and Wedding of Death is a very reign-ish song being all creepy.

R-shitei - 死海文書

At this point I’m not even sure can there be my fav list without them... 予言 is a great start for the album and the darkness continues later with -SHAMBARA- and -ZANGE-. For more calmer songs パラレル世界 and 命日 are very beautiful. Other songs I liked are the previous single 魅惑のサマーキラーズ and SODOM.

Taemin - TAEMIN

This album has new singles ECLIPSE and MARS which are great dance tracks but also older singles like Flame of Love and さよならひとり which I’ve liked a lot before.Those last two are both very beautiful songs and so is Under My Skin. I really love Taemin’s emotional and ethereal songs.
