Yeah, mdzs seems to stray from common conventions and mythologies in that way. Like it’s a common idea/superstition that not having a complete body at death will affect you in your next life like by causing a disability. In the novel, the feeling behind the act (dying without a whole corpse is tragic, desecrating a corpse is the highest level of disrespect) is still there, but the reasoning (because it can affect your reincarnation) is removed. So wwx who died without a complete corpse still had a complete soul, xxc who died with a complete corpse had a shredded soul, and nmj whose corpse was cut into pieces had to also have his soul cut up separately (I see now thanks to that helpful reminder) since the idea of his soul being in pieces didn’t come up until after they realized they couldn’t summon it with just the arm.
Thoughts: wwx probably wasn't ever gonna get reincarnated cuz he his body was destroyed and he didn't get burial rites. I'm not 100% sure on this, but seeing that wq's ashes were scattered as a punishment and nmj's soul was cut into pieces and this was a reflection of his body, it makes me wonder if that's a similar case for wwx's soul. It's also seen in tgcf: hc offering his ashes to be destroyed, which would destroy his soul. Being that it's stated wwx's body was completely destroyed, no bones left, makes me wonder if this is the case.
