I have the feeling you wanted to defend Damian to me, and while I understand that, it was not necessary at all. I don't hate him - my post was just an observation on why people can be overly apologetic of him to the point of ignoring canon while pretending they're basing their views on canon. Not saying you were doing that, just saying that I already don't think of Damian as an irredeemable asshole who should just never appear again.

I know the manga context is different even though I don't know exactly what has been going on. But even though I don't like the ship nor the way Damian bullies Anya, I'm not condemning him either. I personally don't need more backstory on him to sympathize with him, the only thing I want is to see him understand how horribly he's been treating Anya (and to just stop acting like that). It's good to hear that it's getting better, but I also doubt most of the shippers needed that. I didn't need a sympathetic backstory and I don't even like the ship, why would a shipper need it when they're already positive towards the relationship?

What I'm trying to say is, the use of "sy-on boy" influenced the manga fandom in such a way before any actual development happened between them. At the point I'm at, Anya is only tolerating Damian's behaviour for the sake of the mission and Damian is sticking to his pride and not admitting his feelings to himself. Yet I doubt the fandom was any less favourable towards them back then, and having Anya call him "sy-on boy" only contributed to that favouritism.

I've seen defenses of how Damian was never a bully (he was, and even tells her he'll bully her out of the school in his very first chapter) - and this one was from a tumblr post with a TON of notes so it's not a minority that thinks that -, of how Anya is of equal standing because she fights back (a victim defending themselves does NOT make an equal situation) or because she is also using him by approaching him under false pretenses (which is unfair because in Damian's mind, the worse thing that can happen if he stops bullying her is that his ego might get bruised. In Anya's mind, if she doesn't make friends with him, Operation Strix will fail and peace will be in danger. It's also the very same thing Twilight does, so if someone is annoyed by that enough to point it out as bad then why are they following this story of all things).

None of those fandom stances can be explained by any later developments in the manga. But they can be explained by the use of "sy-on boy", because it can imply equal standing and even affection from Anya. And they are weird stances to have because as you said, I do agree that the story itself condemns Damian's bullying.

At the same time, the use of "sy-on boy" makes seeing the story that way make a little more sense. I don't think it's what was intended by the text, but it's understandable. I don't like romances in general, let alone ones that have a "bad boy" character with whom the female character falls in love way before he proves he's worth it, but I understand how the manga translation could have influenced a more favourable view of the dynamic between Anya and Damian way before they actually reached an equal standing.

(I'm not even calling it a romance cause sorry they're six. They're literally incapable of having romantic feelings. At best Damian has a deeper liking of her than he does for his friends. That's the most a six-year-old's brain can feel for a peer)

My issue is not with the story; it's with the fandom, not how they treat canon in their corner (y'all can do whatever you like there), but how fanon interpretations spread enough to the point of me getting the treatment I mentioned above. For someone (who is NOT a Damian fan, btw) to feel so free to publicly tell me "Don't call Damian a bully because that upsets his fans". And yeah, it happened only once and the person who told me that did it in a polite way, but no-one right then came up to take my side. So I think you understand why I felt very left out and misunderstood at that moment.

And by the way, that happened before season 2 aired. So when I later watched the episode where the kids play Old Maid and Damian is being an outright asshole to Anya... you may understand I was very upset at what I was told back then. I felt as if I was gaslighted.

While I have watched every single episode multiple times, I am still an outsider both because I don't read the manga and because I don't actually participate in fandom discussions to avoid spoilers. And I think that gives me a different perspective than even people who are active parts of the fandom and don't like Damian, and I'm telling you... what I experienced is not okay. It may be normalized within the fandom because everyone is so used to a Damian who is not a bully anymore, but it should not, under any circumstances, seep out into how fans treat people outside the fandom.

I don't know. Maybe I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe the fans I spoke to happened to be exceptionally toxic. Maybe they simply considered me part of the fandom and thought I'd understand all the intricacies of the fandom even though I've never taken part in a manga-related discussion. I certainly don't think the whole fandom is like this, and the last thing I want is to pick fights and try to prove I'm the only one who's right. There's a reason I used an anti tag and "censored" the ship name by putting a Greek ι instead of an i in it.

But I do have a very different perspective due to the way I engage with the story and the fandom, and I was treated unfairly, and I just took a point from the manga translation that made me go like "Huh, this makes that behaviour make a little more sense. It still sucks, and people should learn better if they want to engage with non-fans of their blorbos, but that explains some things." That's all.

I get that it's just a specific subset of the fandom; I knew that from the first moment I started typing the original post. But it's the one I interacted with - and the one I and most fans on tumblr have the most chances of interacting with at any given moment - so I was sharing my perspective.

"Sy-on boy" vs. "Second son"

As someone who a) watches the anime first and then reads the manga (and doesn't read manga chapters that haven't been animated yet), b) is quite cautious about Damian's character and c) doesn't even like Damιanya as a ship, I think I have a very different perspective on Anya's view of Damian - at least, according to the point the anime has reached - to the point that I can get VERY confused whenever I see some shippers talk about that. To the point I go like "Is there something I missed?"

And there IS something I miss. And that's manga-only (or at least manga-first) context.

In Japanese, Loid thinks about Damian being the second son of Donovan Desmond, using the word "次男" (jinan) which literally means "second son".

Damian uses the same word for himself later,

and Anya picks that up from then on (though using hiragana characters instead of kanji, as she does in general). And maybe because of that use of simpler characters, the manga translation team decided to have her call Damian "sy-on boy" - a mispronounced "scion boy" - instead of simply "second son".

The thing is, though "sy-on boy" makes Anya's speech sound simpler and more imaginative, fitting her age more, it can also sound more endearing, cute and affectionate, if you lean towards that. Meanwhile, "second son" can range from neutral at best to derogatory at worst - especially considering that Damian is not dealing very well with the fact that his older brother is already an accomplished Imperial Scholar and has raised the bar very high for Damian.

Again, my first contact with the story was from the anime, where Anya simply calls him "second son".

Which, if I'm honest, already sounds appropriately silly. Who calls someone, even the second child of a family, that? Anya's use of "haha" for mama and "chichi" for papa is already kind of incorrect when she talks to them, she's young and has still got lots to learn, in the same chapter/episode she called Becky "milady" until Becky reminded her of her name, and also Damian pissed her off so she has no reason to refer to him with his name (yes I'm fully taking her side on this, bully victim for bully victim). She heard both Loid and Damian use "second son" in their thoughts, so same way she called Becky "milady", she picked that up as a way to call Damian.

I actually wonder why the manga translation team went for "sy-on boy". There's no indication that Anya heard the word "scion" ever before, so it sounds out of place, and honestly, with what I said above, out of character for her. In a weird way, though, it actually fits with how she manages a decent score in her "Ancient Language" test many many chapters later.

(I am aware that there was a fan translation of some chapters before the manga got picked up for an official translation. I have no access to the fan translation, so maybe "scion" was used there and it passed on to the official translations in that way?)

Anyway, what I mean to say is that the use of "sy-on boy" may have encouraged a more lenient and even "encouraging" view of Anya's feelings for Damian, even though through her actions and words she keeps showing that she would rather not be around him, but she has a mission to accomplish.

And with that, though I don't know any Japanese myself, I'm leaning towards the conclusion that "sy-on boy" is not a translation that accurately communicates Anya's sentiments.

And as someone who is very passionate about defending Anya's mistrust of Damian, the use of "sy-on boy" in the manga translation sounds... misleading. Maybe it just feels that way to me because I am a bit more cautious, but it also explains why some fans are so passionate to the point of saying Damian never actually bullied Anya - or to tell me to my face that I shouldn't call Damian a bully because it upsets his fans. If the manga has her use a nickname that could show she's on equal footing with him and could betray, under a certain interpretation, some hidden affection for him, then you kind of understand why people reach that point. It doesn't mean it's right to say Damian was never a bully, or to tell me that after I've shared I still carry scars from having been bullied, but you know. Fandoms will be fandoms.

~Aizawa is actually much more willing to let you post your stories online than Hizashi is. They’re both very protective of you but Zashi is more worried about people being mean to you or you getting cyber bullied, you’re his sensitive little song bird and he can’t stand the thought of people being mean to you. Aizawa is slightly less infantilising with you and more confident in your mental state and abilities but he also has a darker view on the world, he’s more worried about a villain finding you through the writing.

~You can convince them, but it’s hard. The silent treatment can work on Hizashi but if Aizawa finds out it has the opposite effect because he won’t tolerate you being a brat and upsetting his husband. You’re best bet is a lot of begging, cuddles and sweet moments. Zawa and Zashi are both soft for you so as long as you can convince them it’s safe they’ll let you do it.

~Aizawa is more likely to give you some privacy when it comes to your writing and will just ask you questions at dinner about how it’s going and if you’re having fun. But he does expect you to come to him if anyone makes you uncomfortable or threatens you. If Hizashi asks him to he might go on all your device and put some child settings on. Zashi on the other hand is constantly asking questions and trying to peek over your shoulder to see what you’re writing. He’s very clingy and lovey dovey so you should make sure you make time for him or they might put a time limit on your devices.

~If they get even a hint of you acting differently or you seem upset Aizawa and Hizashi will both agree they should check out your writing, just to make sure you’re ok. And if they find out someone’s bullying you or threatening you they will immediately use their resources as pro hero’s track them down and make sure they never bother you again. After this they will sit you down at the dining table like you’re a child and Aizawa will tell you that you’re not aloud to post your writing online anymore while Zashi tries to comfort you and explain that it’s for the best. They hate seeing you upset and your tears feel like someone’s stabbed them in the heart but Aizawa will remind his husband that it’s for your safety, besides now you can spend more time with them, which pretty much convinces Hizashi and hardens his resolve. Neither of them want you to stop writing because they know you enjoy it but if it means keeping you safe then they’ll deal with your tantrums and frustration. You’re their songbird, their kitten and they’re your husbands, so they’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.

There are three approaches to observe how Chuuya reacts and behaves around you; his initial feelings, his first physical reflex, and how he adapts with your behaviour.

Chuuya doesn’t fare well with verbal affection before you start doing this with him. Your frequent compliments will soon stretch his heart’s capacity to be more flexible in both accepting and giving heartfelt compliments, but of course, it has to start slowly.

At first, Chuuya is definitely perplexed and transparently flustered.

If your affections with him start with something subtle, like “I like today’s cologne” or “That was manly of you” Chuuya is still able to afford to mutter a tangled “Huh, thank you” albeit not looking at you in the eyes.

But when it gets more intimate like “Your presence is always so comforting” or “I can always trust you to have my back” and cheesy things like that…

The first thing Chuuya thinks of is why the hell you’re so intent on killing him with embarrassment.

“Why did you say that out of the blue?!”

But should there be a reason? Can’t you just be affectionate with your own boyfriend?

When you say that to him, he stops working.

If your compliments are really, super, cheesy, the type that sends shivers down the bone, Chuuya’s face is a mix of confusion, bewilderment, embarrassment, and slight repulse.

Don’t be offended though, he’s simply not good at taking compliments.

Chuuya wraps his upper arms as if he’s chilly while he stares at you, shocked and dumbfounded, with a face that’s the physical manifestation of “what the f*ck?”.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

If it keeps going on and on for days, he just hisses and clicks his tongue while hiding his red face

There's going to be a stage when he doesn't know what he's supposed to feel, so he’ll resort to convincing himself that he's angry.

It’s ineffective and he becomes more turbulent than ever

All it does is make his temperament easier to poke at, and that doesn’t help with his embarrassment every time you compliment him.

Chuuya raises his voice more often, especially at you, but it doesn't last for long because of how wrong it feels whenever he tells you to shut up.

And on the contrary, the more he thinks about it, your compliments actually make him feel… good?

Yeah, good

His physical reflex is pretty transparent and hysterical. It’s really easy to see right through him and it’s not like he tries to deceive you by faking his reactions either.

After flaring his nostrils and widening his eyes, Chuuya backs off to gather himself together and to get some space--are his ears tricking him or did you actually say his shouts sound nice? Who even thinks of things like that?

He shouts things like “Stop joking around!”

But despite sounding frustrated, the way his eyes crease with embarrassment betrays his ‘anger’.

The way he bites his lips, his blue eyes bulging out, while laboriously breathing loudly, makes you want to tease him more to get more dramatic reactions.

There’s that tiny look in his eyes that pierces into you as if he’s asking you to say more.

When he's at his Angry Stage, his voice is louder than usual and sounds just as fierce and he can never strike a casual conversation, let alone look at you in the eyes.

Best he can do is stare at the top of your head.

While blurting shorter sentences “angrily”

That's the sure sign that he's just embarrassed, in case you're afraid you offend him.

When Chuuya loosens up, which happens by itself without your intervention, you can tease him more and he hides his face under his hat. He growls away from you after snarling at you to stop.

No more pretending to be angry since all it does is confuse himself more.

What if you still shout “You look cute when you’re grumpy!” when he walks away?

He literally walks up a random building to get to the roof to escape.

This is a perfect game of hide and seek.

Nothing childish or straightforward like chasing each other, but Chuuya actively avoids you whenever he can.

He finds refuge in his personal office but alas, you have a spare key.

So he goes to Mori’s office without any prior summoning and tries to strike a conversation with him there, a not-so-smooth one, but discussing future deals with importers does keep Mori’s interest.

Since Mori doesn't like being interrupted, whenever Chuuya migrates to Mori, you're barricaded from seeing him. Not for long though. Just an hour at the most.

When he sees Kouyou, he pretends as if nothing is wrong although there’s no way she fails to notice his embarrassment.

Each time you find him and give more (cheesy) compliments, Chuuyal runs away, and you’ll find him again to tease him. A full circle

If you drive Chuuya to his absolute limit, he pins you against the wall, his gloved hand shutting your mouth. Nothing suggestive, just pure embarrassment and stress boiling out of his ears.

“Will you ever stop!? What do you want?!”

Being partnered with Dazai for several years makes him think that you’re being tricky with him even after you told him you mean nothing bad

When you confess that you really are being genuine, his mouth gapes and he backs off with an obviously embarrassed “Are you kidding me?!”

Eventually, little by little, he gets used to it.

His eyes won’t widen as dramatically anymore and he doesn’t jump away in embarrassment. The grumpiness is still there but it’s cuter than it is hostile.

He responds to your “Good morning, handsome!” by muttering “Yeah, yeah, whatever,”

Chuuya actually likes the attention but he realizes this only after he’s exposed to enough of your affections to get used to them a little, letting the overwhelming embarrassment recede slowly to leave enough space in his head (It happens after he covered your mouth).

He’s not the person to be most familiar with spoken affection after living a life full of uncertainties.

Exposure therapy vibes.

It actually feels nice to have you transparently tell him that you love him. Not that he’ll admit it straightforwardly though.

He gets used to your lovey-dovey treatment for him little by little. His reaction will be the same except it’s much more controlled and less out of reflex.

He previously 'ran' away, but this time, he simply puts a small distance between you both and covers his mouth, looking away.

He previously protested loudly, now he just softly snarls, embarrassment straining his voice.

“Geez, don’t you ever run out of those cheesy words? Where did you learn all that crap?”

When his skin has grown thicker, Chuuya sees each of your compliments as an invitation to a competition on who can make each other more flustered.

He keeps your compliments and affection, recycles them, and throws them back at you.

For example, if you say that he looks dashing under the sunlight today, he’ll double the intensity of the sweetness back at you.

(That is, after thinking carefully about what to say. He's not the best natural flirt)

“Because you’re the sun shining on me, babe. I won’t shine without you glamouring first.”

If you gape with your eyes bulging out and face reddened, Chuuya smirks in triumph.

“Huh, you’re not that bulletproof yourself, babe, think about that before shooting at me,”

If you have a high tolerance for verbal sweetness like this, even for super cheesy lines, he’s determined to kick it up a notch to earn a reaction out of you.

He’s going to be a sweet talker in training.

He does all of those out of the petty reason to get back at you, but sometimes he doesn’t realize what he says until it’s too late in which he flusters himself.

If even that doesn’t work, Chuuya gets physical.

He pulls your cheeks, pinches your nose, squeezes your face, flicks your forehead (and is serious about it), or pokes on your ticklish sides.

If he finds your weak spot, there’s no mercy.

You can laugh until you’re about to faint and he won’t stop messing with you

"How does it feel to be on the receiving end, huh?" He asks so casually cocky while tackling you down.

You don’t realize it, but even though Chuuya’s self esteem isn’t the lowest, it’s not the highest either. He’s just avoiding that topic. So your compliments, no matter how silly or random, makes him feel slightly better under his own skin.

One day, Chuuya will ask how you come up with those praises so easily

If he understands how you do it, maybe he can do the same for you in the future.

Reasons Why Harry Potter was Abused:

Alright, so, back then, orphanages were already gone. The foster system would have been the alternative to Harry being raised by the Dursleys, and...well.... That's no good. And the Dursleys most certainly did horribly abuse Harry. Especially with that threat.

Physical Abuse

It's canon that Dudley and his gang made a game called "Harry Hunting" where they chased Harry around and beat him if they caught him. It was bad enough that Harry apparated himself onto the school roof just to escape. Apparition is supposed to be difficult and there's a high risk of splinching. And considering Harry didn't know magic was real and shouldn't have known about apparition, it says a lot about how desperate he was. Imagine an elementary school kid suddenly getting into a car and driving without crashing. That's how rare and amazing it was. So it must have been pretty bad. Also, it was made fairly clear that Vernon and Petunia ignored this behaviour, if not outright encouraged it. And Vernon did wack Harry around a few times.

Also, Petunia smacked him with a frying pan at least once on the head. It could very well have been burning hot, but I'd need to consult the book for that. And you know that being hit with metal is ridiculously painful. There was also that time she cut all of his hair off except for the fringe without his permission, which would be considered a form of abuse, clearly.

And Marge canonically let Ripper chase Harry up a tree and poor Harry couldn't get down until midnight.

Emotional Abuse

They called him "boy" and "freak" all the time. For all we know, the fanfic trope of Harry not even knowing his name until he was school age was completely correct.

They told him that his parents were jobless drunks that died in a car crash and his mum was a prostitute. How was that not emotionally damaging?

They didn't care one bit about him and made that obvious by always leaving him out, screaming at him, and treating him like he was dirt under their shoes. And they taught Dudley this behaviour as well.

Physical Neglect

His bedroom was the cupboard under the stairs until he was 11. They only moved him when they thought they were being spied on. And they had two functioning bedrooms! A guest room and Dudley's second bedroom. Bloody hell....

He was thrown into the cupboard and kept there for days to weeks on end as punishment. He very likely didn't receive much food, or light either. The latter likely would have contributed to his poor eyesight. And he probably looked sickly pale, too.

I highly doubt he went to an eye doctor to get glasses, either. Petunia probably got them from the charity bin or something. And even if she didn't, they're years out of date. I have glasses myself, had them since I was 8 (but not the same pair, duh), and I need to get a new prescription every year. I'm getting a new one soon. Eyesight doesn't normally stop getting worse for people with bad eyesight until we're about 20-something. And Harry has always had the same iconic pair, which, by the way, kept getting broken and the Dursleys didn't care. That probably made his eyesight worse, too. Wearing the wrong prescription damages eyes.

He was fed very little. We know from COS and OOTP that Harry was fed only a little of stale soup and tea or whatever. I forgot. But I know that he gave most of it to Hedwig—the kind boy that he is. So he was very malnourished. And he wouldn't have been very tall either. He would have been short and skinny. He was probably as small as a first year for the longest time. And six school years of being fed well doesn't do much to combat 10 years of malnutrition, especially when Harry probably still ate only a little bit at a time to combat refeeding syndrome. And all that progress was destroyed every summer.

His clothing was only ever Dudley's cast-offs, and it was far too large for him. And considering how many presents they buy for Dudley every year, they have more than enough to support Harry, too.

They made him do chores, too. They forced him to make breakfast for them all when he was 11. Sure, yeah, at 11 I made breakfast for my siblings and I when my mom was still sleeping. But more often than not, she wanted to be there to supervise, even though she knows that I've always been perfectly fine cooking. Also, I wouldn't trust an 11-year-old to handle making bacon. Just saying. I'd watch that kid like a hawk. I only learned to make stuff like hamburgers when I was 13, though that was mostly because I wanted to learn and because my family is sexist, but I'm not getting into that.

Emotional Neglect

They hated him. Plain and simple. They ignored him on good days and screeched at him on particularly bad ones. There is one line in the book I distinctly remember. It's the one where Petunia woke Harry up on Dudley's birthday.

"Up! Get up! Now!"

Does that sound kind to you? No. She had rapped on the cupboard door, and I distinctly remember that Harry had to flick a spider off of a sock. What the fuck? And he was used to it!

Conclusion

I won't get into any more of this. I just can't. I've made my point clear. The Dursleys horrifically abused Harry and I'm fully of the belief that he would have been better off at an orphanage. And it's not like they wanted to take him in, either! Dumbledore left him on a doorstep in November with nothing more than a note. But that's another problem. And plenty of people are forced to take in kids they didn't ask for, but do they treat those children like shit? No! At least not all of them.

So, yes, the Dursleys did abuse Harry. His childhood was the stuff of nightmares. And I won't tolerate anyone saying that it "wasn't that bad" or "the Dursleys didn't want him in the first place". Because it was, and even though they didn't want him, that gave them no right to treat him as they did.

I know fanfiction loves to make the abuse worse, but they don't really need to. It's already extremely bad as it is. And I didn't even get into all the effects that this treatment had on Harry's mental state—or should have, at least. Rowling wanted an abused underdog that didn't have any symptoms of one. Damn her.

And I didn't even want to mention how Dudley was abused as well, just on a completely different spectrum than Harry. Any objective person that saw this treatment of both boys would have been extremely horrified and disgusted.

Alright, so, this is it. That's all I have to say.

Headcanon order for how the main Frozen group bonds with Prince's Hans while reluctantly working together with him against his brothers/a common goal (my shameless Frozen dream story)

1st, Olaf

Prince Hans openly insults everyone sarcastically at every opportunity, but when he does it with Olaf, Olaf is just... Olaf 😆 and laughs at what Prince Hans says or agrees with him or plays along. Maybe Olaf even starts to pick up the sass and starts to develop sass of his own. Similarly Olaf is fine with calling Prince Hans out when "Well that's not very nice!". Olaf also innocently questions Prince Hans behaviour which ends up being a sort of mirror/therapy/self-exploration for Hans who, without realising it, starts to change as a result. In the end Hans trusts Olaf as someone to talk to about life knowing he won't be judged and genuinely becomes friends.

2nd, Kristoff

Hans couldn't care less about Kristoff and at first Kristoff's main beef with him is Hans treatment of Anna past and present. Kristoff knows Anna can stand up to Hans herself but his protective boyfriend instincts brings him to fight Hans on multiple occasions. When it comes to physical fights Hans acts like the contact turns him on, grossing out Kristoff. Hans uses this as a double whammy to rile up both Kristoff and Anna much to his enjoyment. Hans also makes up an evil fake Sven voice to further mess with Kristoff. Kristoff absolutely hates Hans by this point.

Along the journey maybe they get separated from the group and find themselves in a predicament where they have to escape the den of a wild animal. They see they both have a way with animals and open up to eachother about relating more to animals than people, which creates a certain amount of respect and understanding between them. After they rejoin the group Hans doesn't go out of his way to mess with Kristoff as much and when he does it's considerably more light hearted. Overall they don't ever form a super deep friendship but on occasion sit and discuss common interests while sitting around the fire.

3rd, Anna

Anna and Hans are CONSTANTLY arguing, bickering, dragging eachother. Anna is the only one who actually seems to get under Hans skin enough to have him irritated/mad for real. Neither wants to other to get the last word and usually takes Elsa commanding "ENOUGH" for them to shut up and stop fighting. During part of their quest the group has to gain the trust of suspicious locals. Hans turns on the charm and kindness to help win them over which triggers Anna to all hell while she grits her teeth playing along, losing it at him after "YOU'RE SUCH A FAKE I CANT BELIEVE I EVER TRUSTED YOU".

During a particularly nasty fight leading them to physically attacking eachother, in a context where no one is around to stop the escalation and with Anna holding her own quite competently against him despite sizes differences, spitting insults at eachother the whole time, ends with them evenly matched laughing at eachother/themselves about how similar they actually are. They realise they enjoy fighting with eachother, the banter is part of their chemistry, and exhausted from the fight open up and have a real conversation about what happened when they first met, that Hans actually really enjoyed being playful with her, even though he was faking being in love, genuinely had fun sliding down the halls in sock feet with her, etc. and becoming vulnerable enough to tell Anna he's gay/bi/trans??/queer?? Anna doesn't forgive him for what he did, but agrees it was fun and thanks him honestly for opening up to her, bringing her closure. Their fights after that have both them smiling while they insult eachother and they start to do silly things like have snowball fights and other playful games/hijinks, often teaming up against outsiders with synergy.

4th, Elsa

Hoo boy this is a tough one. Elsa DOES NOT trust Hans even an inch, often has to hold herself back(or Anna hold her back) from killing him with her ice powers, and is only just barely tolerating him for the sake of the mission/saving the kingdom/whatever the main conflict is. Hans recognizes Elsa's powers and that he's no match, knowing she won't fall for his emotional manipulation ever again. He keeps his insults of her reduced to the occasional scathing "your majesty" when addressing her. Other times tries to suck up to gain her trust but Elsa shuts him down quickly everytime.

Elsa is worried by the way everyone else slowly accepts Hans and especially when Anna starts to get along with him does Elsa have a talk, warning her about what happened last time and they can't ever, ever trust him.

Hans eventually does betray the group hoping to gain favour with his older brothers, proving everything Elsa said was right. Everyone is disappointed in Hans even though they all, on a level, saw it coming.

Back home Hans is laughed at by his brothers because they'd never accept a coward/freak/weakingly like him. Hans is faced with everything he's done and has to confront his actions, motives, and desires. He realises how little he actually cares about his brothers approval, what a fool he was for thinking he could ever prove himself to them, and how much it actually hurts to have Elsa, Anna n crew disappointed with him. But it's too late now.

Meanwhile the main group is separated and each escapes their jail cells in there own way. Anna and Kristoff find eachother and team up, Elsa heads to confront the main baddie, and Olaf finds Hans and accepts him back - being the most forgiving and the one grown to most understand and genuinely like Hans - but only after having a moment with him. Hans and Olaf work together to set up traps and tricks to downfall some of the brothers. Likewise Anna and Kristoff take out more of the brothers. Elsa faces off against the eldest brother in a climatic battle. Everyone comes together and Hans sacrifices himself in some way to distract his brother enough for Elsa to deliver the final blow. Elsa spares Hans life, not accepting, trusting, or forgiving - but out of fair respect and recognition for what he did.

The danger over, they go their separate ways, now with a certain amount of peace between them. Hans rebuilds the Southern Isles and Olaf eventually convinces Elsa to have Hans over for games night from time to time. THE END. 😋

And here we are! All 6.7K words... Again, I’m very sorry for the wait. I am already working on Chapter 2, so not near as long of a wait this time.

This is the dog attack chapter, so proceed with caution if descriptions of character death, blood, and light gore upset you!

It was a bitter night, even for Green Leaf. Cold winds from the North washed over ThunderClan territory, bringing with them a chill that penetrated Goldenflower’s pelt like thorns. Shivering, she watched as the gusts blew fallen leaves around camp, a reminder that the summer would soon end. 

She was crouched just outside the Warrior’s Den, the crescent moon illuminating her fur into a brilliant molten amber. It was unusual for the queen to be awake so late into the lonely night, but she had been plagued with nightmares for the past moon. They tore her from her slumber with a frightening viciousness.

She was alone. She had to be. Distancing herself was a desperate attempt to keep herself from falling apart. It was hard enough, losing a child, but the clan had been restless and stressed as of late. It only piled into the queen’s worries.

It didn’t help it had been weeks since she had a good rest. Every so often she’d succumb to utter exhaustion, but the night terrors remained. These dreams all shared a similar theme, of a bloodied black and white body, too young and too small to have had his life stripped from him so violently. It had been a a little over a moon since Swiftpaw had been killed, and his mother had no time to heal from the devastating blow. Goldenflower could still vividly remember Fireheart bringing her to his body; he was little more than torn flesh and fur. She could barely recognize him. He had been made into something entirely new, a horrific amalgamation of pieces that had once come together to form her brilliant and beautiful son.   She loved him, as much as any mother loves her son. She felt responsible; perhaps there was something she could have done to prevent his death. Maybe if she hadn’t been so blind…

Goldenflower’s thoughts were cut off when a soft white paw touched her side gently. She jumped, whipping her head around to see Frostfur standing over her.   

“You’re staring at nothing again,” the white queen meowed.

Goldenflower blinked, taking a moment to process what Frostfur had just said. Her words made Goldenflower feel defensive, but she forced her fur to lie flat when she saw the sympathetic expression across the other queen’s face. “I’m sorry, Frostfur,” she began. She hesitated, her mouth opening and closing again as she searched for the right words to explain herself.

Frostfur nosed her ear softly, “You don’t have to apologize to me. I just worry about you is all. It has been… very hard to be a mother in this clan as of late.”

Goldenflower nodded, but said nothing in reply. She cast her eyes down towards the earth. It was covered in trodden yellow-green leaves, another indicator that fall was on the horizon.

“You know, if you ever want to talk about it, I’m here for you. We all are, Brindleface and Willowpelt too,” Frostfur spoke at last. She pressed her pelt against Goldenflower’s gently. “We love you.”

Goldenflower blinked. She felt lost as of late, more so than she had ever felt before. Though she was surrounded by clanmates, they had proven to be less than supportive during her strike of duress. She didn’t blame them, really. She had been filled with raw emotion, barely able to keep it under wraps. She felt as thin as paper and barely able to contain herself. It was understandable that her clanmates walked on eggshells around her, but it was no less disheartening Hearing that someone cared, especially when she felt like little more than a burden to others, was incredibly uplifting. Goldenflower smiled to herself. It was rare for her these days. Frostfur’s words filled her with a slight glow; it wasn’t enough to fill the Swiftpaw shaped hole inside her heart, but it was something.

“And I love you all too. So much.” she said. “Your offer, it means a lot, but… I don’t know if I’m ready. It hurts like nothing I’ve ever faced. Lionheart’s murder… that was bad. And when my little brother was carried away… but nothing compares to when it’s your child.”

“I understand,” Frostfur said softly.

It wasn’t a lie; Frostfur did understand Goldenflower’s grief, but in a different way. As they spoke, her own kit lay in the elder’s den, being treated for the wounds that covered most of her body and face. Frostfur mourned for her daughter’s pain and her suffering, wishing she could protect her just as Goldenflower yearned for her lost boy.

Goldenflower suddenly felt selfish, “I’m sorry, Frostfur, you’re in as much pain as I am. I shouldn’t be victimizing myself. I-”

“Hush,” again Goldenflower felt Frostfur’s white pelt up against her’s. She let herself melt into her friend, finding solace as she continued, “You have nothing to be sorry for.”

“How is Brightpaw?” Goldenflower asked after a moment, trying to move the subject of conversation. It was an unspoken rule between the queens to never call Brightpaw by the name that was forced upon her. It was given out of hatred and spite. Bluestar had angered the queens- most of all Frostfur- with the blatant disregard for Brightpaw.

“She’s doing better. I mean, as good as she can be, as much pain as she’s in,” Frostfur replied with a sigh, “I’m on my way to her right now, to spend the night. The pain keeps her up, so she likes it when I stay with her. That, and she has had trouble transitioning to the Elder’s Den, though I think it is preferable to being in the clan’s eye.”

“I see,” Goldenflower meowed. “...How does her recovery look? The clan has been talking… you know I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought I’d come to you before you heard it from someone else.”

“At the end of the day, I still have my daughter. Life for her will be hard, but beautiful and rewarding as long she’s here. I have that at least,” Frostfur mewed, “I don’t care about what anyone else thinks of her, her face, or what she is or isn’t able to do. If she’s happy, that will be enough for me.”

“And that should be enough for anyone,” Goldenflower agreed.

But it wasn’t. She quietly thought of the Clan’s reaction to the attack, and especially about Bluestar’s behaviour. It was clear that Brightpaw would always face social challenges because of her injuries; the extreme unfairness of it was enough to spur Goldenflower to speak.

“I just wanted to say, if you ever wanted to confront Bluestar and the clan about this- what all that has happened, I mean- I’ll be there,” Goldenflower meowed, her voice quiet like the breeze that ruffled her fur. “Starting with Brightpaw’s name. I’ll help you. I’ll do whatever I can to make Bluestar see what she’s done to us.”

Frostfur’s eyes blazed at the mention of Bluestar’s name. Goldenflower opened her mouth to continue, but Frostfur had already snapped.

“What’s there to talk about? She turned her back on us. She scorned you when you wanted answers for your son’s death. She damned my child with a horrible name and turned her into a social pariah. And the clan follows in her footsteps,” Frostfur’s lip curled, “I can never forgive her for that.”

Goldenflower said nothing. She had never seen this emotion come from Frostfur before. She did however, understand where Frostfur was coming from, as she too had these moments of sheer rage- towards her leader, towards her clan, and towards whatever had ravaged her son.

But as quickly as it appeared, Frostfur’s anger dissipated. Her fur gently fell back into place and her claws sheathed themselves. She almost seemed embarrassed by her sudden burst of emotion, as she looked anywhere but at Goldenflower’s eyes.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I know she… hasn’t been herself lately.”

“It’s okay,” Goldenflower meowed. “She has hurt you. She has hurt your daughter. You’re allowed to be angry.”

Both queens sighed in unison. Goldenflower cast a glance over to Bluestar’s den. It was bathed in shadow, but she could still see the lichen-covered mouth. Goldenflower silently wondered if Bluestar could hear their conversation from this distance, but told herself otherwise.

After a few seconds, Frostfur spoke again, her voice tired, “I do appreciate the offer, but I don’t think Bluestar is capable of listening. She hasn’t been for a long time. It hurts to admit, but I think the cat she once was- my leader, my mentor, my friend- has died. And I don’t think she’s coming back. Not this time.”

Frostfur, continued, still avoiding her friend’s eyes, “I haven’t forgotten who she once was, and I never will. A part of me will always love her, but I wonder if the ugly part of me that hates her for what she’s done overshadows that.”

Goldenflower hummed softly in agreement. It was hard to admit, because both mollies wanted desperately to stand behind and support their ailing leader. But her actions as of late had soured their willingness to tolerate her poor treatment of them and their desire for justice. Goldenflower was almost relieved to hear dissent so similar to her own feelings come from Frostfur.

The pair fell silent, with nothing but the trees and grasses stirring quietly in the background. The moon had long began its descent in the sky by now, with a faint pink hue illuminating the horizon beyond the mountains to the east. It would soon be dawn, and this night- this intimate moment between two close friends- would be over and forgotten.

“Well then, I suppose another day will be starting soon. We can’t escape that, as much as we try,” Frostfur barked a laugh as she cast her eyes to the horizon. She gently pulled away from the Goldenflower. The queen instantly missed the warmth of her friend’s presence.

It had been a long time since Goldenflower had been able to open up to anyone. She was not yet ready to retreat back to her facade of pretending to be okay, while silently suffering on the inside. She could tell that Frostfur felt similar by the way she slowly stiffened, her blue eyes regaining their false hardness.

“I should be getting to Brightpaw while there’s still moon left,” Frostfur continued, running her tongue over her shoulder to smooth where she had been pressed against Goldenflower. “I appreciate us getting to talk. I really do.”

“Of course,” Goldenflower replied, standing on stiff legs. She stretched with a yawn, shaking her long ginger coat to rid it of any dirt and stray leaves. “All of us queens need each other, and we’ll support you anyway we can.”

Frostfur smiled gently, and Goldenflower could see that unlike as of late, this smile reached her eyes. It made Goldenflower’s heart soar to see her friend’s genuine happiness.

“I bid you good-night, Goldenflower,” she mewed softly, butting her head against Goldenflower’s chest. With a soft look, Frostfur turned and made her way to to the elder’s den.

Goldenflower watched her go, not tearing her eyes away until she saw Frostfur’s tail tip disappear inside the mouth of the the den. It took her only a few seconds to realize she was now alone again. Her ears fell in dismay and she forced herself to look elsewhere.

The camp was quiet as the grave, with not a soul out roaming. She could remember Brindleface leaving to take guard outside of the camp entrance, but she hadn’t seen anyone else in a few hours. As much as she hated being around others in her grief, it was preferable to being trapped in the prison of her own mind, with nothing but the imagery of Swiftpaw’s body to keep her company.   

Now by herself with her thoughts once more, weight of his loss once again threatened to suffocate her. She shuddered as she tried to keep his once bright amber eyes out her mind, knowing that they were now dull and dead, never again to shine with love for his mother.

However, her conversation with Frostfur had put a nicer, warmer thought into her head; she still had two living children. They needed her more than ever now, just as Brightpaw needed Frostfur. Again, she felt selfish, hoping she hadn’t burdened either of her kits with her grief.

She decided to visit them. She wouldn't wake them, but just a peek would surely fill her with enough vigour to continue through another day. Seeing their bright, young faces flooded her with energy and aspiration to make the world better for them, even if it seemed awfully dark nowadays.

Quietly, she retreated from where she stood and padded over to the clump of ferns that sheltered the apprentices. She walked on soft paws, not wanting to wake them or their denmates, Fernpaw and Ashpaw.

She noticed that the ferns that sheltered their nests had regrown substantially after the fire; it made Goldenflower content to know that that her children would stay warm as the months for colder. She cast a gaze around the clearing, knowing that in a blink of an eye, it would be snow covered. She was pleased to know that it at least be green for a while longer.

As she neared the threshold of the den, a familiar scent passed by. Her nose wrinkled as she struggled to put a name on it, as if its wearer had purposely masked their scent. She could barely pick up on it through the thick aroma of tansy and damp ferns. The closer she got to the entrance, the stronger it became, until it was nearly overpowering. Whomever had left this trail had left it recently, and by the smell of it, they had stopped just where was standing, as if speaking to those inside. She narrowed her eyes, concentrating, only for it to become quite clear in an instant.

Darkstripe.

She had never really given Darkstripe a second thought up until recent. Though foul-mouthed and unpleasant to be around at times, he had never really stood out as anything than an underachiever. He had followed around Tigerstar like a lost kitten, but left her alone even when she came into his life. Only when her ex-mate was outcast had he started showing any interest in her and her family.

She didn’t mind him at first, as he was only trying to cope with the loss of his friend and mentor. She tolerated him, just, but as the weeks passed, he started to become more and more aggressive in his interactions with her. Goldenflower could remember a few times when she was tempted to spit in his face for his blatant disrespect.

His conversations with her children were even more troubling. He spoke in hushed tones, but she always heard him. Fireheart had long since told Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw of their father’s actions, but Darkstripe had been weaving a much different story of grandeur and bravery on Tigerstar’s part. Darkstripe’s apologism for a serial killer troubled her enough, but now that it had started to taint her own children, did it really begin to eat away at her.

Goldenflower had warned her children of course. Darkstripe may claim that history was written by the victors, but the Clan knew otherwise. She had failed to see Tigerstar’s sadism and blood lust before he was brought to trail, but afterwards things began to click into place. She would not allow her children to fall under the same spell that blinded her to Tigerstar’s brutality.

It seemed they had not listened to her, or Darkstripe had made himself very convincing.

When his scent become recognizable, Goldenflower felt her upper lip curl in disgust. She stifled a small growl from deep within her throat, not wanting to give herself away. Without another word, she breached the entrance to the den.

To her surprise and horror, both Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw’s nests were empty. Goldenflower’s ears flattened in dismay. Immediate panic began to bubble in her chest. She turned to the closest sleeping mound, Ashpaw, and prodded him awake with urgency.

“Where are Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw?” she questioned before Ashpaw could open his eyes.

He blinked at her a few times, confused, “What? I don’t know what you mean?”

She gestured to their empty nests for clarification, “Where are my children? They should be sleeping; did you see them leave, or go with anyone?”

Ashpaw glanced at Goldenflower, to Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw’s nests, then back at Goldenflower again. He looked even more lost.  Goldenflower was quickly losing her patience; she shifted her weight between her paws nervously.

“They weren’t in their nests when I came to bed… around sunset? Fernpaw was asleep already,” Ashpaw whispered after a few seconds of thought. He scrunched his nose, as if trying to recall his recent interactions with them. “I don’t remember them coming to their nests until late, actually, but I was barely awake.”

“Did they say anything when they came to the den?” Goldenflower prompted further. Ashpaw frowned again; she knew from his expression that he was unsure. The queen sighed.

“They were whispering to each other, but I couldn’t tell what they were saying,” another small voice meowed from beside Ashpaw. Goldenflower recognized it as Fernpaw immediately, and could see her green eyes peeking over Ashfur’s spotted backside.

“I thought it was just about patrol stuff, or something, so I tried to hear in. They have better stories because they’re younger and are allowed to do funner stuff than us. I couldn’t understand their mumbling,” Fernpaw’s face ducked behind her brother, “Brindleface says it’s rude to eavesdrop; please don’t tell her I was listening.”

If she wasn’t in a state of fear, Goldenflower would have chuckled. But she had only one concern at that point, and that was making sure Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw were safe. A familiar feeling of terror was beginning to fill her; it reminded her of the sheer horror she had felt when she realized that Swiftpaw was gone.

She would not lose another child.

“I just have one last question, and then you two can go back to sleep,” Goldenflower pressed, urgency dripping off of her tongue. “Have you seen Darkstripe around either of them as of late? Even if it didn’t seem like much, it is important. Anything you saw, I need to know.”

“Oh yeah!” Ashpaw exclaimed, as if happy to have useful information.

“Darkstripe talks to them all the time. I don’t know what they talk about, but-“

Fernpaw didn’t get the chance to finish, as Goldenflower had already rushed out of the den. She had all the information necessary to conclude that Darkstripe had something to do with their empty nests. She felt anger well up inside her chest.

There was no way they were still in camp. Darkstripe was reminiscent of a snake, but even he would have trouble finding a secret spot inside the ravine. He would have taken them into the forest. Goldenflower ran through countless conversations and social interactions in her mind, trying to land on a motive. It had all to do with their father, that much was certain.

It all clicked in an instant as Goldenflower recalled her mate’s demand for Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw at a previous gathering. If Darkstripe had been circling her kits for this long, he would have had plenty of time to plan a way to get them to Tigerstar. She felt stupid. This was the plot all along, to sweep her kits out from underneath her.

She would need to find a way to get them back. She hoped she was wrong, and that they were just talking in the forest somewhere, but an odd feeling told her otherwise. Goldenflower only hoped the Clan felt as much anger as she did, and her concerns would not be pushed aside yet again.

“What’s going on?” a voice meowed quietly from behind her, snapping her out of her thoughts. Goldenflower twisted around to see both Fernpaw and Ashpaw peeking out at her, already out of their den. Their eyes looked inquisitive and curious; they had no idea of the severity of the situation.

Goldenflower opened her mouth to reply, but Ashpaw immediately turned his attention elsewhere. The apprentice’s eyes flicked towards the entrance of camp, a confused expression clouding them. She noticed his hair beginning to stand on end as his eyes gradually widened in fear. Goldenflower followed his gaze, puzzled and concerned.

The wind was blowing steadily towards them, bringing with it a scent that Goldenflower had trouble recognizing. In her anger, she had failed to initially notice it. It seemed familiar, but clouded somehow, as if she was scenting the ghost of someone she had known before. It felt comforting and unnerving at the same time. She took a step forward, nose to the air.

As she began to hear noises in the undergrowth, it all became evident in an instant. A dreaded memory washed over her, one that she had attempted to bury many times over:

“Move, I need to see him,” Goldenflower pleaded, her voice shaking with despair. “I need to see my son.”

Fireheart did not move out of her line of vision. His eyes were clouded with horror, as if what lay beyond him both terrified and disgusted him. It made her that much more determined to see Swiftpaw.

“Please, Fireheart.”

After a moment's hesitation, Fireheart nodded solemnly and padded out of her way, leaving Goldenflower no shield to protect her from the truth. She braced herself, but it did nothing to stop the revulsion from overpowering her.

There was no body. Not anymore. What was left of her son was reminiscent of a great red smear across the ground. Pieces of him- ones that should never breach air- were scattered haphazardly throughout. Nothing was recognizable, save for the smallest tuft of black and white fur, that had somehow escaped being trampled into the bloody remnants.

It wasn’t until Fireheart wrapped himself around her, murmuring apologies, that she realized she was screaming.

Goldenflower snapped out of her memory, shaking her head as if to purge the horrifying image from her head. She forgot where she was for a second; only when Fernpaw tensely broke the silence did she come back to where she was.

“Goldenflower?” she asked, the panic rising in her voice as the trampling sounds grew louder, “What do we do?”

Goldenflower did not reply, only starred past the maw of camp into the shadows. The scent… it felt so familiar because she had smelled it before. It clung to the pieces of her son, to Brightpaw, and to the air around Snake Rocks. She felt foolish that she had been unable to recognize before now.

It was the smell of dogs.

Goldenflower turned to the apprentices, her face twisted in an unreadable expression. She opened her mouth to speak. Her voice was barely a whisper over the sound of great paws approaching.

“You need to listen to exactly what I tell you to do.”

“Why, what’s wrong-“ Fernpaw tried to reply, before being cut off growl that echoed throughout camp. It came from just beyond the brambles and bracken that protected the camp from intruders. All three cats froze and turned towards the ravine entrance. A distinct shadow could be seen pushing its way through the undergrowth, it’s path certain.

“I want Fernpaw to alert the warriors, while Ashpaw goes to Bluestar,” Goldenflower ordered as she looked back at the young cats. “I want you to tell them that there is a large dog trying to get into camp, and we need everyone out here to protect the queens and elders.”

Her face turned grim as she continued, “I then want you to get as far away from here as possible. Climb trees if you can, but do not go into any burrows or dens; it will dig you out if it catches you.”

Both looked at her in horror for a few seconds, before turning on their paws and bolting in opposite directions. Ashpaw had not gotten far when he skidded to a halt.

“What about you? Will you be okay?”

“It doesn’t matter. Just do as I’ve told you and get yourself out of camp,” she hissed urgently as the crashing from the undergrowth became unbearably loud. The dog would break through the wall any second now. “And whatever you see, whatever you hear, don’t come back.”

She watched him go, hoping he would follow her orders to find safety. She could just hear the sound of her clanmates waking up when the scent- both foreign and familiar to Goldenflower- washed over the clearing.

She turned to find herself looking directly into the eyes of the dog, it’s black furred face only a dozen feet away from where she stood. The beast mirrored her own features, with a sharp predatory face and long canines that gleamed in the low light. It was almost a parody of herself, golden eyes reflecting her own.

She could feel it’s hatred burning through her, but it paled in comparison to her own. This was the creature responsible for Swiftpaw’s suffering. It had torn him apart and left him to rot, only a fragment of the cat he once was. Her lips pulled back in a grotesque snarl.

Her mind flicked to Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw, remembering that they were safe out of camp. She wasn’t sure where they were, but they weren’t here, and that’s what mattered. Goldenflower had nothing to lose now. She could put all of her rage into making sure this beast paid for her grief, even if it destroyed her in the process.

It had only been a few seconds, but it felt as if she had been staring at the dog for hours. Both stood eerily still. It was if each was waiting for the other to make a move. Goldenflower felt no fear, especially as she heard her clanmates pour out of the warriors den behind her.

To its credit, the dog did not flinch at the sight of more adversaries. Goldenflower couldn’t understand why it didn’t back down, until more growling began to echo from behind it. In that instant she froze, her bravery dissipating into thin air.

There was more than one of them.

With a screech from behind her, the clearing erupted into chaos. The shuck tore itself free from the last few brambles protecting camp and cantered into the clearing, covering it in only a few strides.

Goldenflower saw Dustpelt and Cloudtail, side by side, dash past her. Their fur was puffed to twice their size and their lips were curled back in anger. More cats followed, but they were just a blur in her panicked vision.

“Stop, there’s more than one!” she screamed, but it was drowned out by the sound of frenzied barking and screeching. The noise seemed to be coming from everywhere, and as she looked in horror around camp, she realized it was. Every cat she saw had their mouth open- be it screaming in terror or defiance, she did not know.

Goldenflower watched in horror as Cloudtail and Dustpelt weaved around the first dog, unknowing that they were locking themselves into a trap. She tried to force herself to take a step forward, to help them, but her body did not listen. Only when a second dog forced its way in did she snap out of it. She managed to look away just as it closed its jaws around Dustpelt’s torso. Though she could not see, she could hear him crying out loudly above the rest.

The Clan was in full chaos by the time Dustpelt hit the ground.

Goldenflower scrambled on shaking legs away from the dogs. Any bravery she had was long gone, now replaced by fear for her clanmates. Many cats pushed around and past her, each with eyes wide open and panicked, just as she was. Any words she spoke were drowned out by the noise; trying to call out to them was impossible.

The dogs fully breached the camp entrance. There was at least five of them, of varying sizes but all much larger than the strongest of their warriors. Cloudtail had disappeared in a miasma of fur and teeth; Goldenflower did not see what happened to him, but she did smell the strong scent of blood. It stuck to the roof of her mouth and made her that much more fearful.

As she tried to find her way to safety, Goldenflower briefly saw one of the dogs trying to scrape its way into the medicine den. Another pushed its way towards the fallen tree where the elders resided, penetrating the rotten bark with its powerful forelegs. In the chaos she faintly saw faces of cats she knew, but in this instance, they all looked like strangers.

The screaming continued, intermixed with the sound of bloodthirsty hounds. Goldenflower caught a glimpse of a ginger shape thrown to the ground just feet in front of her. The crimson streaked fur and crumpled form was enough for her to know that they were dead.

Blood and fur had begun to pool along the ground from where cats had fallen. It made it hard to keep footing. Goldenflower barely kept her paws under her as she darted around the Warrior’s den, trying to keep out of the way of trampling paws. It was all for one now. She watched with frightened eyes as cats pushed past one another in a desperate attempt to escape.

She had to help evacuate who she could, but it was impossible to locate any one cat throughout the swarm. Calling out proved useless. The noise level was overwhelming and unbearable. She doubted that anyone would even listen to her regardless.

As she skirted the camp, she nearly knocked herself into Whitestorm. His fur was matted with blood from a deep wound on his shoulder. The foreleg hung limply, useless. An eye was also swollen shut, as if he had been thrown against something sharp. He looked exhausted but determined. The sight of him was enough for Goldenflower to regain some sense of hope. He would know what to do. He always did.

“Help me, help me get my kits,” he meowed through heavy breaths as she crouched beside him. Both cats looked towards the west of camp, where the nursery remained relatively untouched. Most of the cats had congregated in a mass to reach the emergency exists, trampling one another. It thankfully left Willowpelt out of the way of the chaos. Through hazy eyes, Goldenflower would faintly see her pale face through the lichen screen.

“I will cover you as you go,” Whitestorm meowed shakily, casting a glance over his ruined shoulder. “I will not be fast enough with this wound. If I can distract them- even for a moment- you can get in there.”

“No, you can’t! Come with me!” Goldenflower cried out. Her hope disappeared once more. Whitestorm had been a close friend of hers. He was the clan rock, someone who was always there to lead in time of disarray. The thought of not having the big tom in her life anymore made her chest heave and twist in grief.

“You must, please,” he pleaded, shaking his head desperately. “Please, before they realize and kill her too. She doesn’t deserve to die.”

“You don’t deserve to die either! We can do it together!”

Whitestorm looked at her for a brief second, a sad expression coming across his face, “It will be okay, I promise. Just go. If I make it out, I’ll come find you. But you can’t wait for me.”

Goldenflower swallowed hard, fighting back grief as she contemplated his idea. The world seemed to be spinning. She could barely concentrate over the yowling and the reek of blood. How could she agree to let her friend die?

Swiftpaw’s body flashed in her mind again. Goldenflower could not imagine leaving Willowpelt to die like that, or her kittens. What Whitestorm was offering was a chance at life for them, even if he would die in the process.

Goldenflower locked eyes with Whitestorm and nodded in agreement, though it killed her on the inside. He smiled and without another word, hobbled out from behind the warriors den. Goldenflower had little time to react, and found herself sprinting across the camp. She disappeared into the mouth of the nursery just as she heard Whitestorm’s pained scream pierce through the air.

Willowpelt had backed herself into the corner, her face twisted in an unreadable expression. Her kittens pooled around her paws. They all looked confused. The walls of the den only barely muffled the sound of death from outside; it hurt Goldenflower deeply to know that the kittens had heard every cry, scream, and howl.

“We need to get you out of here,” Goldenflower meowed as she entered, trying to keep her voice steady. “We can’t go out of the den, as they’ll see us. We’ll have to dig out the back.”

Willowpelt nodded solemnly. Without further words between them, both queens began to claw away at the brambles protecting the rear of the den. The thorns sharply cut into Goldenflower’s pads. She gritted her teeth and kept pushing, even when they became damp with blood.

“Where are the others? We will need help carrying the kits.” Willowpelt meowed through a clenched jaw; her pads there just as torn up as Goldenflower’s. They both left crimson paw prints along the ground, a stark contrast between the soft moss and feathers used to line their nests.

“It’s just me,” Goldenflower replied softly, just trying to keep her friend on task. Though panic and terror still pumped through her, it seemed as if Willowpelt had an eerie calm. It frightened Goldenflower; she silently hoped Willowpelt wouldn’t shut down.

“What about Greystripe? Brindleface?” Willowpelt continued, voice placid, “Speckletail must be around.”

Goldenflower repeated herself, “It’s just me.”

“Your kittens?”

Goldenflower paused briefly. She should have known another queen would be worried about her children as well, even under such stress. They did not have the time for a lengthy explanation.

“Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw snuck out of camp. Wherever they are, they’re not here…and anywhere is safer than here. I have to believe that they’ll stay safe,” she explained hurriedly. She wanted to believe her words.

Willowpelt made a unintelligible noise in reply, but to her credit, didn’t let up on the digging. Goldenflower could see a hole in the bracken now, just big enough to force their way through. Her paws throbbed in pain.

“I hate to ask… but which of your kits can run the fastest?” Goldenflower asked, looking anywhere but at Willowpelt, “If they had to, I mean.”

The grey tabby thought for a second, before replying, “Sorrelkit.”

“There’s only two of us, so we’ll each carry Rainkit and Sootkit. You go first, and I’ll go last. Sorrelkit will run in between us,” Goldenflower explained. She was acutely aware that the noise from outside had died off almost completely. They only had a short window to get away before the dogs attention would turn towards them.

“They’ll catch us.”

“If we go far enough into the forest, and climb a tree, they won’t,” Goldenflower assured, “And if I think they’re going to catch us, I’ll make sure you can get away.”

“How?”

Goldenflower swallowed, but her voice remained still, “By letting them kill me.”

Willowpelt’s expression hardened briefly, before it returned to its eerie stillness. Without another glance, she pulled Rainkit close to her and picked him up by the scruff. Goldenflower nudged Sorrelkit along behind her mother, but before she scruffed Sootkit, she recalled her earlier conversation with Ashpaw.

“And Willowpelt… whatever you see, whatever you hear, don’t come back.”

The sprint into the forest was one of the most terrifying moments of Goldenflower’s life. Every tree and bush looked like it could hide another dog. She tried to focus on the little mottled tail of Sorrelkit in front of her, not wanting to lose track of her clanmates in the undergrowth.

It had seemed as if they slipped away unnoticed. The screams from camp had mostly been replaced with barking and howling; if that meant everyone had gotten to safety, or was dead, Goldenflower didn’t know.

After a few moments of running, Goldenflower slowed to a halt. Sorrelkit was quick to stop, as was Willowpelt. Both of their sides were heaving from exhaustion. On top of that, both queens’ feet were saturated in blood from digging. It nauseated Goldenflower.

They were close in proximity to the center of the forest. The trees were dense and plush here; perfect for hiding in and staying out of sight. Goldenflower could imagine the dogs would never abandon a tree if they spotted them in it. It was crucial they remained hidden.

The golden queen gestured to a large maple. It’s dappled leaves were just beginning to change with the coming cold season. The foliage would camouflage them from anything that followed their trail.

Willowpelt nodded in understanding. She quickly scaled the tree with ease, Sorrelkit struggling behind her. Once Rainkit was safe on a sturdy looking branch, Willowpelt scrambled down and grabbed her daughter by the scruff, hauling her the rest of the way.

Wordlessly Goldenflower followed up to where Willowpelt was crouched, and chose a branch slightly to the left of her. It was high enough as to where nothing would be able to reach them, and the foliage disguised them. Safe, for now.

Once Sootkit was settled securely on the branch, Goldenflower moved to climb down. The rest of the Clan was still in danger. She needed to go back and check if anyone else needed to be evacuated. The thought was terrifying to her, but she couldn’t leave them. She was thankful that Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw had been out of camp when it happened; she would fight until death had they been caught in the massacre.

“Where are you going?” Willowpelt’s voice stopped her. “You said there was just you.”

“I have to go check for survivors. There could be cats trapped in camp and unable to get out.”

Willowpelt shook her head violently, reaching out with a striped paw, “No, stay with me.”

“I can’t-“

“Everyone is dead. We know that. You will die too if you go back. They’ll find you and kill you,” Willowpelt continued, as if Goldenflower hadn’t spoken, “You have to stay. I won’t let you leave.”

“What if there are survivors?” she argued.

Willowpelt shook her head again in response, “You said, that whatever happens, we don’t go back.”

“I meant you. You have kittens to look after.”

“And so do you,” Willowpelt insisted. She was beginning to regain her sense of clarity. “If Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw are safe like you say, they will need you. I will not let you orphan them.”

Goldenflower huffed and looked away, tail lashing. The thought of orphaning her kits made her heart ache, but so did the thought of leaving her clan to die. Willowpelt had a good point, that whatever damage had been done was irreversible; any cats who had gotten out would have had to have found safety by now. The rest were likely dead.

She wordlessly gave in. With a worn out sigh, the golden queen settled herself down on the branch. Sootkit immediately pressed himself into her fur. Despite all that had happened, Goldenflower found herself purring. If it was comfort him or herself, she was not sure.

She looked back over at Willowpelt, who had curled herself awkwardly around Sorrelkit and Rainkit. One of her blue eyes remained open, as if making sure Goldenflower would not try and go back to camp behind her back.

If anything was of comfort, it was knowing Willowpelt and her kits were safe. Goldenflower thought in horror of the clan trampling and push each other in fear. She wondered how it would have turned out if she succumbed to the same instinct. Squeezing her eyes shut, she tried to to imagine Willowpelt left alone in the den, waiting for her painful death.

Gradually, the queen began to doze off. Her entire body ached and her energy was depleted. As she was about to pass out, Goldenflower heard a soft meow across from her. She did not need to open her eyes to know it was Willowpelt who had spoken again. Her voice was barely discernible from the morning wind rustling the branches above them.

“Thank you.”

It was the last thing Goldenflower remembered before succumbing to exhaustion, her world fading to black as nightmares once more took hold of her.

Sanjivani - Weeks 7 + 8

Overall Plot

Sid and Ishani are about 10 minutes away from hardcore Love. And literally every single person knows and is rooting for it (including the security guards at Sanjivani/Ishani’s apartment complex!!!!!), except the two idiots themselves. Shashank is still dealing with the fallout of the thing with Juhi and the admin issues stemming from their unresolved issues, but small mercies, his relationship with Anjali seems to be looking up. Nurse Philo's daughter Jessica has been admitted mere days before her wedding and found to have a terminal illness and it's heartbreaking as fuck.

The Medical Stuff

Lol, does Ishani's "sickness" count? She's pretty convinced that she's dying of something serious, the way she was charting her symptoms and kept getting diagnostic test after diagnostic test, so I think it should. Glad she's finally gotten a diagnosis and the prognosis looks promising! Other than that, Nandini got operated on successfully by the Shashank-Juhi team, and the only active case we have is Jessica's Stage IV cancer. But I think that's going to focus more on the emotional side of things (getting her the dream wedding she wants), since it's at such an advanced stage that it wouldn't respond to treatment anyway.

The Acting

Thank the lord above, they have started giving Surbhi comedy to do, which is where she really shines as an actor. Namit is most excellent at heart eyes, and his crying has improved from the first few weeks; dialogue delivery still needs to be more polished though. Jason and Kunal are being used effectively by giving them hilarious, snarky scenes while they drill some sense into Ishani/Sid. Robin is still pretty much in the background other than to pop up and deliver the occasional wisecrack. Very sad to see Rashmi go, she'd really won my heart as Asha. The seniors got to ease up on the angsty scenes these weeks and I'm grateful for that; it's nice to see them loosen up a bit and smile and joke around. Special mention to Vedika Bhandari as Jessica, who's just ridiculously adorable and sooooooo likable, that I already am having trouble at the thought of letting her character go.

The Characters

Sid: MY DUDES, I DID NOT EXPECT TO FALL THIS HARD FOR SIDDHANT FUCKING MATHUR, BUT WELP, HERE WE ARE. I honestly cannot believe that this boy exists on Tellywood. Where to even start with him in these two weeks? How much younger than his years he seems when he was imploring his mom to stay to meet Shashank; his heart eyes when he wakes up to see Ishani first thing next morning (after waiting to see her the whole night!!!); his bashfulness at all the love he's getting from the whole hospital staff; his good-natured humoring of Ishani's weird behaviour... He's just so unassuming and Soft. I can't really recall seeing this lovable a male lead in tellywood in forever (all I can think of is Hussain K. characters in the early 2000s, in Krishna Arjun and Kumkum and all.) But by no means is Sid a pushover who tolerates any kind of BS. He rightfully rips Rishabh to shreds when he tries to discredit his relationship with Ishani, and understandably calls Ishani out on her nonsense when she's evading her duties, but in a decent way. There is some against-the-wall-caging (because Tellywood), but in a non-threatening manner; he maintains an appropriate distance, does not touch her, and while he does talk in a raised voice due to frustration, never does it veer into yelling that feels dangerous, and he repeatedly asks her if he said or did anything that's making her uncomfortable to be around him. I found it a little strange that he was so vehemently in denial of his feelings for Ishani in last week's episodes, because he seemed to readily accept after his conversation with Guddu Mama (“Halwa banaa ke leke jaaoon? Usko achcha lagega?" with the most hopeful smile; calling Ishani a "bohut hi pyaari si princess" to her face and specifying that he specifically made the halwa for her "pyaaaaar se", being open to the idea of marrying Ishani when Nurse Philo/Jessica jokingly suggest it....) but I guess it would be pretty incongruous for him to instantly fall hard for Ishani AND recognize it, with his past as a "player". So I like that they brought in one of his flings to contrast how different his feelings for Ishani are compared to the other girls he's dated; and subsequently how he's processing his many emotions about the situation. Most of all, I love that his feelings for Ishani don't hamper him from doing his job right; instead they just make him more sensitive to understanding her and making her feel good in any capacity that he can. He came all the way over to her house to apologize for making her cry, AND MADE HER PARATHAS!!!!!!! He slept over, but respectfully all scooched up on her tiny couch! What a goddamn Good Boi. Also, him crying over Jessica's diagnosis? Heart-fucking-breaking. We should all be so lucky to find a doctor who cares about his patients THIS much.

Ishani (or lol as Guddu Mama calls her, "Pareshaani"): I really was expecting the absolute worst with this "Ishani has Loveria" track. And it did not start out well; almost 3 whole episodes were just her puerile lovesick imagination waale music videos and that goddamn CGI titli and I was just like jfc whyyyyyyyyyy. BUT THEN!!!!!!! They finally started showing us the funny side of Ishani, and it's succeeded in making the character lovably kooky, instead of just unpleasant to be around. Her panic attack in the bathroom where she legit thinks she's having a stroke and tries to literally shake off the crush, making all the first year residents repeatedly do ECGs on her, her awkwardness around Sid, the rant where she bemoans falling in love with Sid of all people, her child-like crying to Asha when Sid finally gives her a dressing down for acting idiotic ("Mujhe ITNA daanta! ITNAAAA! Aur unprofessional bhi bola! *violently stabbing finger in the air* UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!"); all of it was just hilarious as fuck. We're finally seeing the endearing side of Ishani's addled personality. I'm also very glad she got the much-required wakeup call from Sid/Asha, that she's being very unprofessional by running away from her duties, and hopefully from here on, she'll be learn to focus on her job, even with Sid's distracting presence. She's also made quite a bit of progress when it comes to her germophobia; but realistically: it's only with Sid (and Asha) - the two people she's really close to; she's still seen being touch-averse with the rest, but slowly getting better; letting children touch her, offering to shake hands with Jessica and Jignesh, etc.

Asha & Aman: I'm super bummed that Rashmi is being replaced as Asha, because she was honestly so good in the role; cheerful and hilarious in most of her scenes, gentle and sensitive with Ishani, helping her out as much as she can with this inconvenient crush... It's not an easy role, with the accent and all. I hope this new actress is as competent as Rashmi, who always highlighted the humour but without making the accent the punchline; it was always the things she said and how she chooses to word it. It's an important distinction, to not make the regional background into a caricature.

Aman is Aman as usual, lol; vicariously getting kicks thanks to the shenanigans of everyone around. Also, to my surprise, Aman and Asha live together! They offer up their place for a party for Sid; when Ishani freaks out that the cake he ordered isn't Sid's favt. flavour, Aman just shrugs "Meri Asha ko butterscotch pasand hai." I still don't really know what his equation with Asha is, but whatever it is, I love it. Asha's a self-sufficient girl, but it's obvious that Aman feels really protective of her and wants to see her happy always. I really hope the new actress maintains this ambiguous chemistry with Robin too, till the writers decide what direction they wanna take this relationship in.

Dialogue of the Week: Asha [walking in on Ishani holding a sleeping Sid's hand]: Abbe! Humaare saamne toh badi "garma"phobic bani ghoomti hai, ab dekho Dr. Sid ke saath kaise touchy-wouchy ho rahi hai!!!!!!!!!!!

Rishabh: Fucking asshole. He Tried, but he's no match for the razor sharp wit of Sid, or Asha's jugaadu skills to relieve an overworked Ishani. Chal dafa ho, be! Manhoos kahinka.

Neil: He's really really enjoying Sid and Ishani's crushes on each other, taking the mick out of both of them at any given opportunity. I truly lmao-ed when he was seriously examining Ishani for an illness on her insistence and then eye-rollingly dismisses her with "Kuch nahi hua hai tumhe." Cutest snark bean.

Rahil: MY ACTUAL FAVE. Lmao, if Ishani’s got her little purple titli, then Rahil is Sid’s grownass plaid-shirt-wearing TITLA, who appears outta nowhere to serve up piping hot sass at his confused dumbassery. His acerbic, plain-speak snark seems to be the only language Sid understands (as opposed to the first years' gleeful teasing, or the good-natured ribbing of elders like Shashank and Philo and Guddu Mama), and him having to exasperatedly explain things to his boss-who-is-also-his-bff is just hilarious. I relish every single scene he appears in to the max! Also props to him for giving us the gem "same level ke ajeeb" as the OTP tag for SidIsha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shashank: A much better fortnight for Dr. Shashank! Two of his idiot babies are very obviously in love (that scene of Ishani showing him her reports and describing the butterfly through pantomime though, lmao) and now his relationship with Anjali is defrosting (the exchange about the surgeon she was interested in and how he wants grandkids from her??? The cutest!!!!) Things still remain frosty with Juhi though, and I don't understand why he won't just address the issue and clarify things in a straightforward manner, instead of dragging it out like this and making it awkward with his COS/mentee. Anyway, good on him for getting that win on Vardhan, but I feel like he needs to stop being so damn stubborn on his issues without giving reasons. It’s not helping matters around here, personally or professionally.

Juhi: Literally the classiest female professional on TV??????? She hasn't stopped holding Shashank accountable for how he sabotaged her career, but I love that she has sorted it out enough to work with him, but also engages in minor acts of pettiness like gleefully scraping his car with hers, cheekily grinning and apologizing saying she needed to get out some of the angst before they operated on a patient together. For what it's worth, I was fully on her side during the argument with Shashank about the machines for the hospital; it sounded like a good deal, but of course, she should have had the foresight to know Vardhan would try to do some kinda fuckery. She’s right in not really trusting Shashank anymore, but needs to be a little more prudent with how she proceeds while making decisions for Sanjivani. In a way, it’s really sad how she doesn’t really have any allies at her level. Shashank was the only one she could really rely on, and he went and blew that relationship up, and now she’s kinda adrift in the organization. I hope Shashank does good by her and repairs the relationship.

Anjali: Phew, finally a good break for Anjali. I'm ecstatic. She's realized that Vardhan's manipulating her and broken free of his gaslighting nonsense. She's much smarter than both Shashank and Vardhan thought she was and yes sis, play them both!!!!!!! She got her COS post, but also isn't playing by Vardhan's rules. Ultimate winner! But does she also have some romantic feelz for V? Coz that last scene between them had very intimate vibes, from the way she walked into his office and knew where the booze was, to her pouring him a glass and casually lounging against the wall like a wife/girlfriend would. She wasn't even really fazed when he grabbed her; either she's a hella strong woman who cannot be trifled with, or she's familiar with this side of him. I really hope it's the former coz she deserves someone who's a grown up version of Sid (*cough* Atul Joshi *cough*) who's super good and healthy for her, not this deceitful fuckwad.

Vardhan: What is his deal? No honestly, does he have some kinda personal stake in saving Sanjivani from financial ruin? It seems so, with how overwrought and devastated he seemed at Shashank exposing the machine waala scam. Also, the way he manhandled Anjali? Unforgivable. Die in a fire, scum.

Rahul: Still haven't seen him but apparently he's hiding in that secret room in the luxury ward? What the everloving experimental fuck is he doing with pregnant women who look to be unable to afford medical care? Nothing ethical, that's for sure. I have a feeling this will maybe tie up to Ishani's parents waala plot, but for the meanwhile, jfc, just reveal yourself man, coz this shit is getting scary as fuck the longer you go unseen.

(1) I want your opinion on something: do you think that the people who like rika excuse her for what she did to v? And is it because she's a female character? From my pov, it's hard to see it considering that v has a LOT of fans and rika has a LOT of people who want to rip her head off, not to mention that people who either disliked v or liked rika didn't really get a nice treatment from the fandom(a friend of mine was bullied)-

-(2) and with the amount of experience that me (and possibly others) got from many fandoms, if v was the villain, I can assure that he would still garner sympathy and would even be jokingly called daddy. I definitely won’t see him as daddy material but I’ll obviously like him as a villain. Right now? He looks more of a bella swan to me. My theory? It’s cause it’s a romance genre with a male dominated cast directed towards a female audience.

First thingI’d like to say: I do not wish to see hate of any sort under this post. Feel free to stateyour opinions, no matter what they are, as long as they’re still opinions. I’m not anti Vand I will not tolerate hateful behavior towards ANY of the characters.

Yes. Rika’sfans are undoubtfully treated badly in this fandom. No matter if it’s aboutliking Rika or justifying her actions, surely the amount of hate they get istoxic and overwhelming. It has nothing to do with an exchange of opinions anymore. It’s buillying in it’s clearest form.

I participate in RikaPositivity server on Discord, and it’s probably the best resource in thistopic. So, let me say that: I haven’tseen a single person who’d say what Rika did was good. Despite what somepeople try to push into our mouths, we do realize what she’s done – to V and toSaeran – was bad.

But you can’tjust say the blame is all on her, and let me explain, why.

So it’s really hard to say that Rika’s guilty for everything she’s done to V: because, first, the reason why her ‘bad side’ came out is because V told her to ‘let it go’ as he assumed he’d pull it off somehow, and second, he literally tells her to do all these things to him, later on not regretting his choice and still keeping on his opinion that it’s al-fucking-right.

Rika’s state worsens drastically through the whole plot. In V’s route we still have some sight of her original personality; she doesn’t really mean to harm RFA, the way she’s talking to them using the chat is - in my opinion - sincere (of course it can be discussed, but that’s just how I was seeing this). We can’t forget that she really did care for the others, and a good proof is her reaction to Ray’s death on 10th day. She literally breaks down into tears. No matter if the whole cult was strongly related to her way of trying to ‘prove’ herself, it doesn’t mean she didn’t care about these people; even when she realizes it’s over for her, she wants them to escape so that the ‘bad world’ wouldn’t reach them. 

In Secret Endings though, her state is so bad she cannot be considered sane anymore. The way she treated Chois is completely different from how she acted in V’s route, which is really meaningful. While playing only Secret Endings, it wasn’t that clear, it may have seemed that she was that bad all along. But Another Story shows the contrast between how she acted in the past, how she acts now, and how she acts in the Secret Endings, and that’s a very important piece of information more of people forget to acknowledge.

And, why people hate Rika so much?

You mentioned it twice, the fact that Rika is a girl and that V is a man which does make a difference. Yes, Mystic Messneger is a romance game ‘destined’ to women, mainly straight women. Another thing is, a lot of people decides to dislike Rika even before we get any actual info about her behavior, as I suppose, because of how RFA is focused on her from the beginning. Rika is a very important character and just as important RFA member. From the very first day we’re flooded with the mentions of her and especially Yoosung’s behaviour (in and out of his route) obviously doesn’t make us like her more. It’s also one of the rare situations when an important (even though undateable, at least untill 2 months ago) character is in such a close relationship he hasn’t gotten over yet. Rika is the only person that can be considered a rival to MC. In these circumstances it’s really easy to focus only on the reasons to despise her.

This work exactly the opposite way for V. His personality is more soft from the beginning, he gives us that needs-to-be-protected attitude and so, we’re more eager to find excuses for his behaviour even if we see him making mistakes.

To summarize it all, I’d like to say one thing.

Both V and Rika are very well created characters. They have good sides and bad sides. They do good things and bad things, less or more wittingly. But just as I believe Rika deserves more understanding from this fandom, I believe V’s mistakes should be acknowledged AND eventually forgiven.

I think the main problem was Cheritz’ way of presenting the ending of V’s route. I suppose they did it to please the fandom, and the thing they did is - let me say that - a little OOC (I should rot in hell for this statement). I believe in normal circumstances V wouldn’t want to completely cut Rika off like he’s done in his route, but after acknowledging what he unwittingly leaded to, he’d sincerely want to fix it one way or another, as even though he didn’t love her, he did care for her, which is obvious after that many years of a relationship.

Because neither V or Rika are bad people. What they’ve done is a result of either lack of knowledge or their mental state which partly or completely make their actions less of a ‘human act’. And even though their relationship became toxic, they chose each other out of their real feelings, and not a purpose to hurt anyone.
