it is currently 14:21, as i write the (revamped) intro to my blog. A blog that has been long abandoned, other than the occasional likes and reblogs to let others know I'm still #alive. But i also write this as a stressed yr13 alevel students. First exam in 25 days (akschoully ☝️🤓 24 days, 17 hours, 34 minutes and 46, no 45, no 44 seconds left but hey! who's counting??) but weirdly, instead of loading up my psychology flashcards, i decided to restart this page. Procrastinated both things but yall can clearly see where my priorities lie.

it would be very rude, audacious even, if i made an intro without introducing myself. So greetings all, (an: even since seeing @hrrtshape blog, i just LOVE how she writes & want to reward her a golden trophy for inspiring me to pick up such a philosophoful writing style; it reminds me of the good ol' days when i use to read books with sophisticated literature for fun....when i actually had time to waste, now every second feels like it needs to be dedicated to at least one of my subjects), i go by ???......i'm still tryna find out a name for my alter ego. Its not really a act-different alter ego, its more of an alter-ego where i can act like my most authentic self (with a sprinkle of whatever internet media that helped raised me *cough, cough* pinterest, fluttershy games, coryxkenshin and so much more). An alter-ego where i can express my interests freely without worrying about "what if someone perceives me".

Why?? because i was on pinterest and one of my recommended searches was "girlygraphics". It was like a pink led lightbulb went off and i thought to myself "i love this way this rolls off my tongue". While I still have the confidence to send this, as someone who is also autistic af, how do you motivate yourself to finish drawings and art that you start? Because gonna be honest I have uhhh *Scrolls through my art app* like 100+ unfinished pieces of art that I really want to finish but just end up pushing off for "later", not even the good old hyperfixation can fix it majority of the time. Sorry if I'm bothering you wish this question, I just figured I may ask while I have the confidence.

well you see, my secret is that I ALSO have a million wips! I even have wips that have been sitting in my procreate folders for like 3 years now! There's a particular comic I've been trying to finish of the triplets playing Russian roulette together that I've had for like 2 years now, but I just can't seem to motivate myself.

sometimes its just like that! sometimes you just can't motivate yourself and thats ok. I believe I'll get around to it eventually, and I believe in the same thing for you and others!

anyway, I dont really have many motivators aside from REALLY wanting to see the idea I had visualized in front of me, and sometimes I lose that motivator and sometimes I dont. Sometimes I'm able to make myself associate a piece im working on with a song, and if I just listen to that song on loop for long enough, im able to finish the thing! I dont know how to explain. my apologies if this isn't very helpful, im trying my best to think here but I honestly don't understand how I get art stuff done despite not feeling like doing it in the moment. Sometimes I just push myself because I think its necessary but I wouldn't recommend that, that just seems like a recipe for burning out lol

MAGIC MY BELOVED MAGIC!!! Its one of the best MVs in the entire series, even including T2. Magic is visually stunning and has some fantastic art direction but also is very clever in how it conveys its themes and ideas. Magic doesn't really hide anything from you, not really. It's all symbolic but it Tells You Things. It shows you the abuse, it shows you the cat. There's a fun little relationship going on here where, In Magic. Amane's pain and suffering isn't taken seriously by the people around her and the Audience we are discouraged to take it at face value due to the fictionalized nature of Magic. It's so cool. I'm so fond of the song as well, it's one of the best in the series purely cause of the Layers in it. The implications of this Inability to be good is seeped into Magic. Amane knows this isn't reality, Magic knows it's a show, she watches it at the end. And it's so Sad to me that even in her fictionalized happy world she Cannot be a good girl. It's a standard completely out of reach for her and that idea is just conveyed so well visually.

Im not even talking about the goddamn cat yet- the cat symbolism goes Deep. That cat is HER it has the same wounds Amane has in Purge March. Idk if you're much of a panic at the disco fan but. I was listening to a song when you posted your Tilly art (which looks great by the way I love it 👍) and it kinda made me think. Hm.... Man. Tilly kinda gives me the same vibes as this album they have called pretty odd.

I dont know exactly how much he fits the lyrics to some of the songs but the actual sounds they have. Like. They taste the same idk how to explain it they're very vibe-ful. Although part of this might also be that the album cover reminds me of Tilly somewhat as well? In a way I can't exactly describe? The colors speak to me. In ways I can't transcribe because it's a brain special 😞 (album cover for reference)

Some of the lyrics to their songs are somewhat nonsensical (but they mostly make sense if you're good with figurative language, I'm not that great most of what I know is from reading other people's descriptions) and iirc Tilly is partially based on the Mad Hatter, which is another reason I can make a connection. I tend to associate the mad hatter in particular with that whimsy wonderland way of speaking. Mostly though there's one song in particular that makes me think of Tilly, which is "The piano knows something I don't". It's hard to explain in one sentence so I'm gonna like. Make a paragraph for each set of lyrics in particular I wanna emphasize for Tilly. I'm so bad at explaining things but I hope this all kinda makes sense

"I won't cut my beard and I won't change my hair/ It grows like fancy flowers but it grows nowhere/ My hair, my hair." <- this reminds me Tilly mostly because of what it actually means. "I won't cut my beard and I won't change my hair" is meant to represent someone being resistant to change, or refusing to change themself in some way. "Flowers" in this case refers to bad habits of any kind. By using the word "fancy" to describe the flowers, it gives the impression that the "bad habits" in question are actually something that's desirable. The reason they're desirable is because the songwriter (Ryan Ross iirc) bases a lot of his lyrics off his own experiences, and by going through bad things is able to write more profound lyrics for his songs. So when you put it all together; His bad habits are something that can be good, because they help further his career and the music he makes. But by refusing to let go of them, he's also unable to actually grow and change as a person.

"If I could build my house just like the Trojan horse/ I'd put a statue of myself upon the shelf/ Of course, of course, of course." <- this one is kinda harder for me to connect, mostly because I don't really know how to interpret it? I don't think others really know how to interpret it either, but I'm gonna go with the best explanation I've found. "If I could build my house just like the Trojan horse" is obviously a reference to the Trojan horse, where Greeks gifted the Roman's a big horse as a "gift" that was actually filled with soldiers to ambush them. People seem to have mostly interpret this by taking the word house and seeing it more as an overall representation of the writer's life, and how his life is full of surprises- So, anyone who would enter and try to become part of his life wouldn't know what to expect. This reminds me of Tilly because he's a known liar, and as you said in your last post he even lies to himself. So, how could anyone else know what to expect if Tilly himself might not even know? "I'd put a statue of myself upon the shelf" is (I didn't fact check this) a reference to an old Roman practice where people used to put small statues of household gods on their mantle as a means of worship. So, the writer is worshipping himself as the God of his own household. This kinda reminds me of Tilly because of how you tend to portray him as someone with a large ego or high sense of self importance, hence him being the God of his own household

The first verse like..... Kinda hard to connect to Tilly, at least for me. I'm gonna try my best but. It's mostly written in reference to the writer's girlfriend at the time, who was a dancer. In the verse he compares her to things like smoke from a cigarette and steam, things that don't last very long. This is taken as foreshadowing that their relationship doesn't last very long, just like the smoke and steam. I'm gonna connect it to Tilly through the argument he had about playful land with Fellow- Not only does Fellow now work for someone that Tilly doesn't like, Fellow even said himself that Tilly is a burden. If Tilly is causing problems for the people he cares about, then whatever relationship he had with them isn't going to last very long.

The next set is kinda long so I'm just gonna explain the overall verse and cherry pick lyrics if I need too. "Everything's gone missing/ I've lost more songs to floods." In this line, "songs" could represent good things in his life, and by extension how they're disappearing from the writer's life without him knowing why. I don't really know how to connect this to Tilly it just feels right to me 😞 I can smell him in the lyrics..... he's there, he exists..... "The piano knows something I don't know." This line comes down to the fact that the writer plays most of his songs on a piano, and by extension also tells his stories to it. Therefore, since it knows most everything about him, the piano might know the answers to all his struggles, and if he plays enough songs on it he might figure out what those answers are. While I don't think that Tilly has any physical version of the piano in this case, I think it's kinda more of a mental thing if that makes sense? His only dream in life is to finally not have to scramble for money, and maybe one day after all he's been through, he'll finally figure out what the answers to solve his struggles is. Another interpretation that I like is how pianos are generally seen as something beautiful and likable to most people, but the writer doesn't find himself likable. "I've lost more songs to floods" can give the suggestion that he might be forgetful, and he even compared himself to old crows in the verse, something that would be weak and struggle flying. He's not confident in himself, and is therefore envious of how well liked the piano is. This reminds me of Tilly because of that one post you made where you talked about his personality more in depth and mentioned how he would rather die than let anyone know he was secretly a caring person, and how he himself genuinely doesn't see himself as a good person of any kind. While maybe not envious of others who could be good people, maybe it's more like if he was a better person he could be of actual help to all of those that he tries so hard to help already.

I actually think the first verse (the one about the writers girlfriend/the one you struggled to compare to him) is the MOST Tilly verse but in an interesting way. I’m going to separate this into sections and give each section it’s necessary trigger warning, so people can read what they want out of this lol.

FIRST: the foxglove songs:

These are just, the MOST foxglove coded songs possible. So let’s overanalyze them!!! cw for vaguely suggestive stuff in the first song.

I like to think that the verses are interchangeable about who is talking about who, but my personal favorite interpretation is the first verse is Fellow talking about Tilly, and the second is Tilly talking about Fellow. I think the first verse kind of speaks for itself so let’s talk about the second.

“You can’t tie me down / but you can tie me up” Obviously this could be seen as solely suggestive but I like the idea that this is Tilly actually lying, in an attempt to deny that he’s actually attached in some way. Also yeah, suggestive still lol.

“She on an ego trip / baggage in the trunk” << Tilly talking about Fellow during Playful Land. Following this up with “the love we make is poison / it’s like my only vice.” this is the ONLY person Tilly has ever gotten genuinely attached to, and it HURTS. He doesn’t know how to handle something like falling in love, thus “it’s like my only vice” when Tilly’s entire life is a complete mess. He considers falling in love the truly horrible decision among all the decisions he’s ever made. And in this case the “made me an offer I can’t refuse” in the chorus is about him coming to live with Fellow again.

The true part of this song that fits them so well is the chorus. “Pretty please come on over and ruin my life / take my hand while we dance on the edge of a knife” is SUCH a good line for them. Both of them equally consider the other as a large change in their lives, and while “ruin” is not the correct word it’s probably the sentiment that they would express.

Pork Soda is absolutely a song that fits them during their time separated from each other lol. I mean, just listen to the song and think about it from the view of Tilly thinking about him not seeing Fellow ever again, which is what he fully believes 😭 and then vice versa with Fellow thinking about Tilly.

I mean, they are very similar people on a certain level, which is why a lot of the songs I pick out for Tilly can be interchangeable as to who is talking. It’s something I personally like about them.

Especially all the lines of reassurance (“you’re younger than my dad, it’s okay”) and the kind of smug aura about it. He’s having fun not because he enjoys any of it, but because he actually really hates them and he enjoys lying to them so blatantly and having them fall for it. I like that the song also makes reference to them being “evil” “I saw the devil in your eyes” because that’s definitely how Tilly views them. Like, I know that’s not really the intended interpretation of the song but lol I can twist the lyrics for my oc’s if I want.

Obviously the intended purpose of this song is NOT meant to be depressing but, uh. Yeah I listened to it and I definitely think it’s a song that fits how Tilly ended up doing what he does now—in the sense that the lyrics are actually people talking to him, and then later he starts singing them back. Especially the “Nobody’s gotta know / you do it like a pro” Line just SCREAMED this interpretation to me.

I don’t go into depth about Tilly’s trauma surrounding this because obviously it’s a super sensitive topic but it IS a core part of his character that he’s experienced this and continues to. While, yes, what he does now is TECHNICALLY consensual he does not like the people he sleeps with, nor do they care what he wants during it anyways. And he did not start out doing any of this consensually.

It’s a bit depressing because ajhshshsh I really like this song but I can’t get this interpretation out of my head. Accidentally rewrote the intended purpose with my character lore 😭

I love how she sees the beauty in the world. it's broken, its painful. But there are births, there are joys. There is art and music. It has value and beauty despite the flaws it has.

She also, unlike a lot of other maiden characters in fromsoft games, has her boundaries. As much as I love the Emerald Herald and the fire keepers, they go along with what ever plan their chosen picks (sans the one where you litterally shove the fire keeper over butttttt). But Melina has a very clear line that she will not tolerate being crossed. Do not take away her agency, do not try to save her. She does not want to be saved, especially if it means dooming everything else.

Even getting miquella's needle will not bring her back. She will leave, and will only return to kill you.

She is a non entity. She exists and does little else. You talk to her infrequently and interact with her just as much. The plain doll, the fire keeper, and the emerald herald have a lot more to them. Thank you for this very interesting question! I already thought about this subject and to be honest, I am glad to have this debate because I find myself quite divided.

On the one hand, the positive points:

Modern music seems to have definitively freed itself from the strict constraints of academic regulations which, back in my days, considerably limited creative freedom and opportunities. These days, the advent of globalisation has made it possible for musical styles that were once traditionally confined to one region, one ethnic group or one country to be discovered on other continents, giving rise to contacts, sharing and mutations that have made music universal, in constant change and richer than ever.

I've noticed that there are still debates over what ‘real music’ should or shouldn't be, but they don't go as far as provoking censorship and bans, which is a wonderful improvement - at least in the Western world. I won't criticise the use of computer music either, because it allows people who never had the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument to create music regardless (although a keen ear will hear the difference).

Also, as you must know (I assume it because you seem pretty educated about my era), opera has a very special place in my heart and it's pretty close to what you call ‘musicals’. Human beings will always be telling stories through music, isn't it a lovely and hopeful prospect? Even this formidable technical feat called ‘cinema’, wasn't it born with mute actors whose emotions were conveyed only by expressive faces enhanced by music?

On the other hand, the negative points:

There is however an unpleasant feeling that I can't shake off and which tells me that today's artists don't always make music for reasons that I can support and approve of. It's obviously not the case for everyone, but there are a certain number of people who consider music as just another business to make money. These people aren't looking for the beauty of creation, the poetry and pain of putting your heart and guts into a heart-rending score or a soul-stirring song. They create music the way one would create tin cans: at high speed, on a loop, without actually trying to tell a story, without managing to move the audience. But music is an art. If you try to turn it into a commercial product, it becomes distorted and loses its original function, and then nothing makes any sense.

Regarding the mixing of music genres I mentioned earlier, I also think it's a shame that the lower classes don't manage to take up the forms of music more associated to the well-off classes, when the opposite is systematically happening. A simple example: Opera has unfortunately retained its image of an art reserved for a certain caste. On the other hand, music such as blues and rap has become the preserve of billionaires whose popular appearance is merely a disguise.

hello! thank you so much for asking; i'm surprised people even still know who she is, let alone are looking for info about her! i'm always happy to talk about her. unskippable cutscene incoming!

so, yeah! i definitely still use carmine. she was my third oc ever and she's very dear to me. as for all of the art available being fanart, it's because during the height of her popularity, there was a bit of a witch hunt going on to me and i thought that the only way to stop it was to delete all of the carmender art i had posted. and i had a LOT.

(theres even more than this scattered around various sketchbooks i've had throughout the years)

i've had a really complicated relationship with her since then. i tried to forget she existed for a long time - and as i got older and became more aware of not only the blatant implications of offender as well as how his creator treated him as a storytelling device, the thought of being associated with him disgusted me so much that it scared me. i'd formed my own version of him throughout the years, but his source material was still one of unpleasant origin. my only excuse is that i was young, extremely isolated, and had a hard time processing serious topics and media. carmine and offender were a massive source of comfort for me until they very suddenly weren't. hence the obliteration of all "canonical" traces of them on the internet.

i've since turned my version of offender into a proper oc named oleander! i'd be happy to gush about him too, but carmine is now associated with him instead of offender.

i'll save infodumping about the two of them as a couple for any followup questions, but know they're in love and they're very romcom about it.

as for carmine, i tried to change her a lot over the years, only to realize a couple years ago that i didn't need to change anything aside from some story details! she's still the same as she always was, except now she has a rotating wardrobe and i just draw her in whatever i want.

I hate going out, and it's really hard to get me to go to the beach, for example. I think my best quality personality-wise is that I'm down to earth and realistic about my goals. A problem is probably how much self-doubt I have, since people constantly tell me I am capable of achieving more than I think I can. I don't settle for seconds, but I'm not too excited when I rech first, because there's always a new competition.

6. What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?

primarily went for aesthetic and then backfilled reasons for her to look that way. i didnt have any idea what she looked like before i finished her picrew. with the exception being her eyes, which iirc are that way bc of a trait mentioned in the 5e clockwork soul sorcerer page

7. What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most?

i mean besides obviously her really cool eyes, i think my favourite part is the fact that shes wearing two off-the-shoulder shirts layered over top of each other to cover both shoulders. its hard to tell in the picrew but the commission i got done of her has creases in the top shirt revealing the outline of the shirt underneath and its SO good.

i have never understood character playlists tbh. i cant do them. i dont even use playlists normally. there are like a couple characters i have that i can think of one song for but thats about it

13. Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?

voices in my head are ephemeral and impossible to replicate in real life because theyre just concepts layered over each other until they sound like speech. like that mariah carey midi that almost sounds like her singing. so no i dont have a voice claim lol but she basically sounds like any old Excitable Anime Child (Girl Style)

19. What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?

there is nothing to dislike about violet so there is no least favourite thing. my favourite thing really is that her overall vibe is 'something obviously pretending to be human and not doing a very good job', but like a cute version of that instead of a horror version.

oh hmm... is there anything like that for violet? ive posted most of the art (you in fact made most of it). scenes... i dont think ive thought about violet in scenes as much as i have about other characters. and thanks to you i have had a LOT of chances to ramble about her lol
