Easy to forget that Jaal IS living his fantasy of "hot aliens come knocking at your door to whisk you away on space adventures in their technologically advanced alien ship"
Like we're the aliens this time around, coming to his home planet, getting him on a spaceship with a variety of hot aliens. In a single day, Jaal's life took a turn for the harem anime protagonist road.
This is a full on monsterfucking fetish to him, we are the monsters he wants to fuck.
And he's an alien enthusiast. He was writing "alien x reader" on angaran Wattpad since he was a teen.

100daysofwriting - Day 1
So I thought for the first day I might just briefly outline all of the WIPs I have actually made a start on and that might help me to decide where I want to focus some energy. I have some for Katniss/Peeta in THG fandom and some for Natasha/Clint in the MCU.
Everlark
folklore series - so I started this series of fics inspired by songs from Taylor Swift's album folklore because honestly those songs just immediately bring to mind so many scenarios that made me think of Katniss and Peeta. I made a start on chapters based on peace, my tears ricochet, invisible string, this is me trying, and mad woman. I also have a bit of an outline for continuing the story that was started in 'the 1'.
I've had this one WIP ongoing since about 2015(?) which is a bit of a monster that has grown beyond me but basically it involves Katniss and Gale being raised in the Capitol in relative poverty after their fathers are conscripted into the peacekeepers because of traitorous activity. Mrs Everdeen is still from 12 but was moved to the Captiol to be married (this part is sketchy) and she still had a little childhood romance with Mr Mellark. Peeta gets reaped and Mrs Everdeen reacts to this as he looks like his father. Katniss gets a crush on him as she watches him prepare for the games. She hates herself for it but finds herself checking up on how he is doing even during non-mandatory viewing.
Arranged Marriage - I feel like this is such a cliche for thg fandom, but I just imagined my own way that the pairings happen but I'm so bad at writing slow burn so this will probably never materialise, but if you want a semi-decent thought out pairing/arranged marriage system I would be happy to lend you mine.
Miscarriage fic - I will never post this, but it's in my WIP folder. It's full of nasty feelings that feel a little better when they are written about.
Modern AU Pandemic Quarantine! - ofc, this is essential. Katniss and Peeta end up as the only people not to move home from their dorm for the quarantine. Slow burn that I can't fucking write should ensue.
Canon Pandemic Quarantine AU - pandemic a few years after the end of the war forces Katniss to admit she wants Peeta as more than a friend with whom she hunts, bakes, rebuilds the district. Cue sexy pandemic times and a resentful Haymitch that keeps accidentally breaking the rules.
Divorced but co-parenting Everlark - obviously finding their way back together
Another classic of their children being reaped and dying - I don't know why I write things this depressing. They just tend to come out in one big rush and then I never address them again.
Real weird teen pregnancy modern day AU - don't know where it's going or why...
Modern day AU dead Prim - Peeta and Katniss just met each other through mutual friends and are kind of flirting. Peeta is a bit infatuated. Katniss stops going to mutual friend parties and he finds out it's because her sister died. Instead of staying away he gets tangled up in her grief and does all sorts of practical things while Katniss wallows. Also it's E rated but not that much fun... can't entirely explain where this one came from either...
Single Parent AU where Finnick and Annie play match maker. Probably my fave Everlark in the works but it's another one that has grown so big for the 20 minutes I can dedicate to it each week.
Clintasha
Red Room Take Down - Nat and Clint are retired and living a quiet family life with their child. SHIELD appears asking for Nat's help in taking down the red room and dealing with the fall out, specifically what to do with the girls that they get out. Nat is torn but chooses to go. Chaos ensues with the 'rescued' girls. I need to actually develop some OCs a little if I ever want this to be good but tbh the pending Black Widow movie is kind of holding me back on this one too because I hope we find out more about the red room.
So I have a weird habit of writing from Lila Barton's POV. I can't explain it. I have AoU and like to pretend it never happened but anyway I have a WIP about Lila detailing the collapse of her parents' marriage after Clint retires and he and Laura actually have to spend time together without Natasha. She then goes on to describe the custody settlement and her utter joy that Auntie Nat sleepovers with them at her dad's place. She feels utterly betrayed when she finds out they are getting engaged.
Fluffy AU - Clint and Natasha in an established relationship with a son born between infinity war and endgame. Natasha still sacrifices on Vormir, but Steve gets her back no bother and it's so nice and happy and fluffy and Clint and Natasha are together and they have a son who has both parents back and Steve gets to make all this happen and he is so happy too and they have a barbecue and go swimming in a lake and clint/natasha have private time, and their kid wants to be captain america, and did I mention how HAPPY everyone is?
Another fic similar to the above just about everyone being so HAPPY. Endgame reverses the snap and instead of weird farm family coming back Clint and Natasha get their daughter back and it's just a cute moment about her reappearance and their race back to the spot she disintegrated from. (Steve/Bucky go to Vormir and Steve is sacrificed, but that fucker CHOSE to leave).
This is another one that has just grown bigger than my brain. it's based off the idea that Natasha helped with coordinating fosterings during the blip time. Clint loses his mind when he loses his family and crashes in BedStuy but finds a neighbour girl (Kate Bishop) who is fending for herself in post-apocalyptic Brooklyn. He helps her out and tries to get children's services involved but it has collapsed. Finds out Natasha is the one getting everything in order. He gets in touch. She's at the end of her tether and asks why he can't keep looking after her. In the end he does and she ends up getting involved and all three get overly attached to each other. I haven't got as far as the events of endgame and idk what's going to happen. It might be tragic.
Pregnant Natasha but nobody knows what is wrong with her because they don't even suspect her being pregnant is possible. Just a real vivid description of the early unpleasant pregnancy symptoms.
Another absolute monster - Sort of canon compliant to begin with aside from before the farm family disappear. Clint and Laura are in the middle of separating and tensions are running quite high at the farm. Snap happens. Nat and Clint accidentally run into each other while both a bit low during the blip and get drunk and share home truths. Begin working together from HQ and both get a little less sad. He convinces her she doesn't have to be responsible for the world's fate every moment of every day. Clint has a break down at Morgan's 1st birthday and realises that things will have to change. Nat has this realisation later. They begin sleeping together. Accidental pregnancy. More feelings come out between them. They enter a more conventional relationship and have baby. Baby is really hard work (colic) and they struggle with comparisons and feelings of inadequacy. Pepper helps them to identify the colic and improves everything greatly. Happy times with baby while also running the avengers. Opportunity to reverse snap. Some good scenes between Nat and Tony. A big conversation between Nat and Clint about what it will mean. Steve and Nat end up going to Vormir together. Nat is obviously about to commit suicide. Steve over powers her and gives her a pep talk about the situation she is running away from and how to deal with it. He self-sacrifices. Clint goes back to farm fam and Natasha goes back to BedStuy with baby. Clint has to tell Laura and then the kids about the last 5 years and their new siblings. Nate is super into it. Cooper is a bit aloof and cynical. Lila is confused. Laura is quietly seething. Clint helps put the farm back together about 5 years of neglect and the kids meet baby. Family gets happier. Laura and Nat eventually meet again and it's civil/friendly.
My own version of what happened in Budapest.
The Call - inspired by a post here on tumblr. Nat calls Clint as she bleeds out. Just needs a beta reader and then I would consider publishing.
AoU reimagined but with Clintasha - I'm not sure where this one is going it's like a massive spider web right now with lots of ideas shooting off, but basically it is inspired by this post and just involves a lot of hoodwinking the other avengers.
Accidental Baby Acquisition - Natasha becomes Yelena's child's legal guardian after Yelena gets taken out. Natasha and Yelena are estranged at this point and Natasha things the whole thing is a trap and brings Clint along. He is surprisingly good with the baby so she ropes him in to teach her. The three of them end up bonding.
5 times there's only 1 bed + 1 time they choose to sleep in the same bed.
non-superhero AU Clint and Nat both think they have adopted a stay cat but actually the cat has owners and just likes strokes and eats a lot so has many 'families'. They get into an argument over which of them the cat belongs to only to find out the cat has owners and they are moving away. They decide to adopt a cat between them as both are not hope that much and the shelter refused them as single people. Slow burn ensues, which I am shit at writing.

“Let us open wide our hearts.” - Katharine Drexel (Luke 12:13-21)
This fall, we’ve been spending some time with modern day saints – some of the faithful men and women who have lived in the last century. So far we’ve heard the story of Father Kolbe, a Polish priest who helped Jewish refugees during the Second World War, and ultimately offered his life in Auschwitz in order that another man might live; we’ve heard the story of Josephine Bakhita, a young woman born in the Sudan, kidnapped and sold into slavery, only to find her faith and her freedom on the other side of the world; and we’ve shared the story of Nelson Mandela, whose life-long work against apartheid cost him nearly three decades in prison – and who, while in prison, invited even his guard to sit side by side with him at the table of Christ. We’ve been reminded that there is power in living, and there is power in dying, but no matter what, as the people of God, when it comes to issues of peace and justice – we cannot sit apart; we cannot stay silent.
Today we are scheduled to talk about Katharine Drexel, the first canonized saint to have been born a United States citizen – and I promise, we will talk about Katharine Drexel, because hers is a life worth remembering – but before we talk about the first American saint, I want to talk a moment to talk about America itself.
And friends, I’m an American. I’m an American, because I was born here, and I was born here, because a few generations back, some courageous souls decided to risk everything, to leave their homes and old lives behind in pursuit of something new, in this new land across the sea. I grew up in the United States, singing “My Country, ‘tis of Thee” and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with my peers. I grew up reading Little House on the Prairie and playing with American Girl dolls; I watched the Olympics and cheered “USA!” with the crowds for every gold medal won, and I didn’t just stand for but played the national anthem before our high school football games.
This is my home. This is, as the song says, the country where my heart is. But because I love it, I want so  much more for us.
I believe in the ideals that the United States was founded up: equality and liberty, for all people. But I believe it’s dangerous when we forget that “all people” hasn’t ever really meant all people yet – when we try to shove the skeletons of our past back into the closet – when we find ourselves repeating our mistakes and perpetuating our prejudices.
And I also, quite frankly, believe that it’s dangerous to elevate individual freedoms, and individual happiness, above all other goals and values in life; the American Dream – while a lovely idea – so often, in practice, turns out to be just an illusion, a mirage, glimmering on the horizon, but for so many, no matter how long and hard they work, the dream never arrives… and for those who do achieve the American Dream, they still wrestle with discontentment, because “more” is never enough. And so we create a voraciously consumerist culture; we create an ever-deepening divide between the rich and the poor; we continue to divide ourselves along class and race and color lines… and we fear each other, and we distrust each other, and – in our pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, we end up creating a place where people die senselessly, where freedoms are reserved for a chosen few, and where nobody is ever really happy at all.
In the pursuit of the American dream, we’ve created a nightmare. And this, friends, is why I want to talk about Katharine Drexel, our own home-grown saint… because just like Jesus turned expectations upside-down, when he said the last shall be first, and the greatest is the servant, and blessed are the hungry, and the poor, and the meek – Katharine, by her life and by her faith, challenges us to turn our understanding of the American dream on its head.
Katharine[1] was born into the American dream. She was born in Philadelphia in 1858, the second child of a wealthy investment banker and his wife. When she was just five weeks old, however, her mother died, and so Katharine and her sister spent the next two years in the care of their aunt and uncle, until their father remarried and the girls were brought back home, and a younger sister soon joined the family.
Katharine and her sisters were raised with every privilege and advantage possible. The girls were educated by private tutors; they toured parts of the United States and Europe. And they were also raised to recognize that not everyone was as well-off as they; twice a week, the family home became a distribution center, where the Drexels offered food, clothing, and rental assistance. When they heard of someone, often a widow or lonely single woman, who was too proud to ask for help, the family would quietly seek them out and find ways to meet needs without sacrificing anyone’s dignity. As Katharine’s stepmother Emma would teach the daughters, “Kindness may be unkind if it leaves a sting behind.”
By all appearances, Katharine  loved and respected Emma, the only mother she had ever known. It was Emma who taught Katharine how to care for others; it was Emma who cared for her. But it was Emma’s three-year struggle with terminal cancer that taught Katharine another lesson: she learned that, while money can buy a lot, while money can give a lot and do a lot – no amount of money can protect you from pain or save you from death.
Katharine started to reflect on her own young life. She thought about the times that had moved her, and she discovered a deep and abiding passion to relieve the suffering of the Native American people. And so she started to support, both financially and personally, numerous missions and missionaries working here in the US.
When Katharine’s father died, much of his resources were left to a variety of charities and causes. But even after those monies were doled out, the three sisters still stood to inherit a huge estate – and “huge” may actually be an understatement here. To protect his daughters from fortune hunters, however, their father stipulated that – while the young women controlled the remaining fortune, it would never belong to their spouses, and couldn’t be willed to anyone else; on their deaths, it would pass to their children alone. Should none of the sisters have children, when they died, the remaining fortune would be redistributed to a variety of charitable causes.
But the women were still young yet; Katherine wasn’t even married. Her heart and passion were still for making a difference for the peoples around her. Shortly after their father’s death, the three sisters were received in private audience by the Pope, where they pleaded for missionaries to be sent to staff the Indian missions they were financing. And it was at this meeting that the Pope suggested that Katharine become a missionary herself. I wasn’t at that meeting – but I’ve been a part of enough others to imagine the conversation went something like this: “You say that God needs someone; what if God is calling you? What if God doesn’t just want you to send your money – but what if God is sending you?”
Katharine wrestled with this idea, she prayed to discern her own calling – and she came to believe that, yes, this is where God was calling her, this is how she wanted her life to be spent. The day that Katharine entered the convent where she would prepare to take her vows and be trained as a missionary, the local paper, the Philadelphia Public Ledger, ran the banner headline: “Miss Drexel Enters a Catholic Convent – Gives Up Seven Million.” Because, as a nun, she would have no children, she was forfeiting her share in her father’s inheritance.
And yes, seven million is a lot of money – but to put it in perspective, that’s more like one hundred and seventy-two million dollars today. No wonder people were shocked; no wonder they were amazed.
But Katharine was convinced. She committed herself and her life to issues of social justice, almost a century before ideas of equality came to the forefront of the American consciousness. She started opening schools everywhere she could: schools for Native American children, schools for African American children, schools for the kids that were too often and easily being forgotten, ignored and overlooked.
And Katharine established her own religious congregation, the sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, dedicated to the ideas of social justice… and they realized those ideal weren’t shared by all their neighbors, when a stick of dynamite was discovered near their new motherhouse. But Katharine wasn’t swayed; if anything, she believed more than ever that the work she was about, the work God had called her to, was vitally important, and not just “someday” in the future – but today.
Because neither Katharine nor her sisters ever had children, on her death, their father’s estate was divided among several charitable causes. But even without the Drexel fortune behind them, Katharine’s order and schools continue their work still to this day.
Katharine lived to be ninety-six years old. She was born in the years leading up to the Civil War; she saw not one but two world wars… and she died before the Civil Rights moment really began in earnest. She was a woman ahead of her time; she was a woman who left an incredible legacy behind her, including one hundred forty-five missions, and sixty-two schools for minority students – and Xavier University of Louisiana, the only historically black college in the US, owes its existence in part to Katharine Drexel, the rich white northern girl.
The American Dream says: work hard, and you’ll get rich; pass your riches on to your children, so they won’t have to work so hard. The American way says, More is never enough; it says, whoever dies with the most toys, wins.
But that’s not God’s way. And that’s why I love Katharine’s story: she flips the script upside-down. Rather than resting on her father’s fortune, she gave it up and gave it away. Rather than getting caught up in the game of me-first, look-out-for-number-one, rather than worrying about creating a huge inheritance to pass on to her own children – she invested her life, her inheritance, in other people’s children: in children who didn’t look like her, who came from households very different from her own – she spend her life loving and teaching and helping as many children as she could, because she believed that we’re all God’s children, in the end.
In our scripture for today, Jesus tells the parable of a rich man who – when faced with even more wealth than he’d ever dreamed of having – decides that the best thing to do is to build bigger barns, to store all his grain, so that he will be set for the rest of his life. And he’s not wrong, except that the rest of his life turns out to be much shorter than he’d planned. You fool! God says to the man, you fool! Your life will be demanded of you this very night, and then what will you have to show for yourself?
There’s wisdom in planning for the future. I’m saving for retirement, no doubt. But there also comes a point where you have more than you need, where saving turns into hoarding – and all those things that were once good start to turn rotten as we stockpile them away. It’s the lesson God’s people learned from the manna in the wilderness: that God gives us enough for all to be fed, every day, and when you try to take more than you need and to hoard it away – literally, it turns rotten; it stinks.
Katharine would say it’s the lesson of the Eucharist, of the Lord’s Supper. Her faith was deeply shaped by the experience of coming again and again to Christ’s table, where all people – rich or poor, white or brown or red or black – all people stand as one. Here, we all share the same food. And she was also shaped by the language: this bread, it’s Christ, and look, here is how much he loves you: he loves you enough to sacrifice himself, to be broken open so that many might live.
Our daily bread is meant to be shared, not stockpiled. There’s a saying floating around these days: if you have more than you need, build a bigger table. If you have more than you need, don’t build more barns to keep it in; if you have too much grain, bake it into bread, and break it open, and give it away.
And just as we need to eat every day to live – we need to keep coming back to God, coming back to Christ, so our spirits can be fed, too, through this communal meal, through this act of love: taking, and blessing, and breaking open, and giving away.
Katharine saw her resources, her privilege, as gifts – meant to be used, not to advance herself or her family, but to support God’s work. And when she died, she didn’t leave a fortune… but she left schools and missions, and generations of children educated, of children loved, of families changed, because of her faith. She made the world a richer place, because she remembered what really mattered most.
Friends, chances are, you don’t have hundreds of millions of dollars in your family accounts. If you do, please come find me! Few of us are millionaires – but we are all blessed, nonetheless. We all have resources to share: our time, our talents, our table, our attention, our advocacy, our love.
How are we spending what we’ve God? How are we investing our time and our resources – how are we investing our lives? How are we growing God’s gifts? Are we taking them, and asking God’s blessing, and breaking them open, and giving them away?
The American dream is to work hard, to get famous, and to accumulate great big piles of stuff. But God’s dream is to work hard, to be humble, and to give generously. And it may not be as flashy, but I’d say it’s a much more impressive – and important – way to live.
May our legacy be the legacy of self-giving love. May we be good stewards, faithful servants of God and generous lovers of God’s people, now and for years to come.
God, you know the things that we yearn for; you know what, and who, we work for each day. And you also know the things that wear us down and break our hearts. Help us to live faithfully, not just for today but for the future. Give us hope, and give us courage, and fill us with your peace. In Christ’s name; amen.
[1] She was born Catherine Mary, and didn’t change her name’s spelling to Katharine until later in life. For simplicity’s sake, however, I’ll be using the same spelling throughout.

Soul Came Out of the Mirror - Wedding Vows
Tumblr media
InuKag Week Day 6: Stars
(thanks to @grapefruitwannabe for drawing this wonderful art piece for this fic!)
Inuyasha and Kagome exchange vows in a way that’s as unconventional as their relationship.
So, I started the fic Soul Came Out of the Mirror LAST YEAR for @inukag-week. It was only supposed to be a oneshot, but it’s turning into a 9 chapter fanfic. I want to thank Cynthia and Lali for creating and running this week. I sometimes talk about this on my blog, but I was going through a rough patch around this time last year. InuKag Week helped get me out of my funk, because I had the inspiration to write again. I can’t believe that I get the chance to finish a fic that I started for InuKag Week, one year later.
Without further ado, here’s my post-canon InuKag wedding (taking place under the stars, of course). This chapter can be read as a oneshot!
Inuyasha had been fidgeting all day.
Kagome and he had spent a quiet evening together, eating dinner and watching the sunset. When Inuyasha suggested another forest walk under the starlight, Kagome was happy to oblige. Hopefully this walk will save me from sleeping next to a twitching man tonight, she thought. She was aware that when Inuyasha fidgeted like that, something was off. But she knew her hanyou well enough to know that if she pressured him into talking, he’d probably clam up even more.
The two held hands as they travelled deeper into the forest. Inuyasha wasn’t one for public displays of affection. He hated any form of attention, especially around the villagers. Though they accepted him, he still felt like he walked on eggshells around them. Kagome argued that he was just being paranoid.
As they walked, the two took the path they’d frequently take: the path to Goshinboku. It was laden with purple flowers and arranged stones, much to Kagome’s surprise. This path hadn’t looked so manicured before.  This is just like walking down an aisle… Kagome thought. The two often liked to walk under the tree and say prayers. It was the only thing that connected them between the two eras; the only part of Inuyasha’s time that felt modern to Kagome. Gazing at that tree reminded Kagome of childhood evenings spent staring out her window.
The two stopped in front of the sacred tree, and stared up at its branches. Kagome felt a surge of gratitude shoot up her legs and into her body.  Seeing this tree made her feel like she was home. She was always home.
“Kagome…” Inuyasha began. She knew he was about to say something important. “I had so many days during those three years away from you to miss you. And so I did. Constantly! Miroku mentioned a few times that he thought I should consider moving on. He didn’t say to give up hope, but he had a theory that the Shikon jewel was the only reason you were connected to this world. Though I knew that wasn’t true at all.”
“Because I was born to meet you,” Kagome said.
“Yeah,” Inuyasha responded.
Inuyasha held Kagome’s chin and pulled it up so their lips could meet. After a short moment, he grabbed her hands and continued.
“But I had a lot of doubt. Those days felt eternal to me. Then they turned into months. And honestly Kagome, it was torture. It hurt too much to think that there was so much time in between the last time I saw you and the time it was at that moment. I thought about you constantly. I imagined you happy and with your family and friends. I hoped that you’d stay there if you were happier. But there was a selfish part of me that hoped you’d rather be with me.”
“I did. I wanted to be with you so badly. I’m… I’m glad that I got the chance to have a normal high school life. I got my education and spent time with my family. It was carefree, but that didn’t change the fact that I wanted to be with you. I tried to enjoy my life in my era. I attempted to move on, even. But I didn’t want to… I missed you too much.”
Inuyasha pulled Kagome into a hug. Kagome couldn’t help but feel like an incredible circle had just occurred. The last time the boy she loved had hugged her under that tree, they were in unstable places, physically and emotionally. Kagome had doubts in her heart that Inuyasha wanted to be with her over Kikyou. The two feared for their lives almost every day. And Inuyasha had difficulty relaxing into the new relationships he had formed. It took him a lot of time to trust that his friends wouldn’t betray him. But that only made the fear of losing those he cared about deepen.
Kagome was so glad to be under Goshinboku in better circumstances. The two had come so far, apart and together. She was glad that she lacked fear or doubt in her heart. Though she still felt sorrow, it was eased by her gratitude.
Inuyasha spoke softly into Kagome’s hair, “I have something to ask you tonight.”
Kagome pulled away so she could face her fiancé in the eyes. “Ask me anything.”
Inuyasha pulled a ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee. Kagome’s chest filled with clutching warmth that expanded up into her chest and almost spilled out of her eyes. The ring was absolutely stunning. It wasn’t just a diamond ring: it was a ring made entirely out of diamonds. The band was a gorgeous, thinly cut clear diamond that fit perfectly around Kagome’s left ring finger. The stud was simple but stunning. It was shaped like a tiny rose that sparked and caught light every time the piece turned. It would’ve been priceless in the modern era.
Inuyasha stared patiently up at Kagome, waiting in earnest for her response. He wasn’t nervous by her stillness; he’d grown more in tune with understanding reactions of others. Inuyasha’s nose could pick out the varied scents of emotions. Sorrow and fear had a bitter scent to them. Gratitude and happiness were warm. And though any of these given emotions could produce the salty scent of tears, Inuyasha could distinguish them easily.
The scent coming off of Kagome was something else, though.
Kagome’s scent oozed of warmth, of light, of peace - but it was accompanied by a deepness that he didn’t think he’d experienced before. Perhaps once or twice when he’d passed by a loving couple in a village, or when he dug far back into his memory banks and had seen his parents together when he was an infant. He decided she must feel a deep sense of family and love towards him.
Inuyasha couldn’t help but notice his scent was beginning to match hers.
Left hand shaking, Kagome extended her fingers towards her kneeling fiancé. He clasped them gently, putting the ring into her palm and closing her fingers around it. Inuyasha’s hands clasped around Kagome’s enclosed fist, and bent to kiss the top of her hand.
“This ring is yours, if you want it.” His voice shook. He was offering himself to her in a way he never imagined possible for an outsider like him. Kagome, a beautiful and warm-hearted woman, loved him. Before he’d met her, he simply believed that type of love was out of his reach. She made him feel like the luckiest bastard on the planet.
Tiny teardrops sprung at the corner of Kagome’s eyes. “You’re supposed to one to put the ring on me, Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha’s face crossed with a serious expression. “I want you to tell me if you still want to marry me, Kagome. I want you to promise me that this is what you want. If it is, then I promise I’ll do everything in my power to protect you and make you happy.”
“I want to marry you more than anything,” she replied without an ounce of uncertainty.
Nodding, Inuyasha took Kagome’s hand and gently slid the ring up her finger. It fit perfectly. She suspected he must have measured her finger in her sleep, or something. She had never owned anything so close to perfect.
Kagome held her hand up to admire the ring. Inuyasha rose to softly kiss Kagome on the lips. He slid his hand up her back and into her hair, feeling the warmth of her skin under her clothing and then gently cupping her scalp, letting his fingers trace along the back of her head.
“How on earth did you know that in my time, people propose to their potential spouses with a diamond ring?”
Inuyasha laughed. “Don’t forget that I came to visit you in your time. It may have been confusing as hell, but I did learn some things. Your brother taught me about the diamond ring, actually.”
“Where did you even get the ring?”
“Hosenki’s son, remember him? He couldn’t help us get to the underworld so well, but a diamond ring is no problem. Especially since I provided him with more than enough diamond to work with.”
Kagome shook her head.
“What?” Inuyasha asked, knowing something was going through his woman’s brain.
“When my soul came out of Kanna’s mirror and back into my body… I felt this wholeness that I’d never known before. Probably because I had no idea what it was like for part of my soul to be missing. But when my soul came back into my body, I had a new appreciation for the feeling of being complete.
“Inuyasha, it feels like my soul has always been severed in some way, because I think that it’s so interwoven with yours. Right now, being with you, my soul has truly returned to me. I know that living here entails sacrifice on my end, and that we’ll fight, and that I’ll lose my temper, I’m gonna forgive you over and over again. Nothing is worse than being away from you. My soul feels like it’s truly come out of the mirror, Inuyasha.”
“I love you. You were born for me.”
“I love you and I was born for you.”
The two shared a kiss under the deep glow of the moonlight, as if nature itself had decided that the two needed some sort of spotlight.
“Kagome, will you marry me?”
“I already said yes, baka!”
“No,” Inuyasha said with a smile, “will you marry me right now?”
Inuyasha watched the hesitation dance through her eyes.
“Think about it, Kagome. No matter how many people we invite, there will always be someone missing. The same goes if we were to get married in your time, if that were at all a possibility. If we can’t have everyone, then we’ll only have each other. If you want a big, fancy, traditional wedding later, then hell yes we can do that. But damnit Kagome, I want to be married to you now and married to you tonight. I waited many years for you to return to me, and I spent an infinite amount of moments regretting not kissing you more, or telling you how beautiful you are, and being grateful for all you do. Let’s just do it now, Kagome. I want you to be my wife.”
“We don’t need anyone else here, but it might be nice to have a witness,” Inuyasha said. “I thought Goshinboku would do just fine. He’s been here for all the important moments and has lived in both of our times.”
Everything was starting to sink in for Kagome. This was it. She was actually getting married to the love of her life. She’d dreamt about this day since she was fifteen years old. And though the dreams hurt much more when she’d spent those three years away from her beloved, they’d only helped her learn that she would never be able to forget about him. There wasn’t a single part of her that was uncertain.
“What do you say, Kagome? Will you marry me right now?”
 “Inuyasha…”
“Whatever you want, Kagome. I’m serious. If you’d prefer to live together unmarried, that’s fine with me. As long as we’re together, I-”
Kagome brought her fingers to Inuyasha’s lips to silence him. “I want to marry you. You’re right, there’s no point in putting off the marriage on the off chance I’ll see my family again. And if we do, we’ll just marry again. But the thought of not being married to you for an indeterminable amount of time doesn’t feel good. Let’s get married right now.”
Inuyasha chuckled in relief. “I’m so glad you said yes.”
“I mean, I already said yes to you when I first got here.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you have any vows?” Inuyasha asked.
“Of course I didn’t prepare any,” Kagome said softly. “But I will say this: I want to marry you. I want to live with you for the rest of my life and let the days with you grow longer.”
Inuyasha stood in front of her, his nose nearly touching hers. “Kagome, I vow to protect you. I’ve done it many times from horrendous forces. But from you I’ve learned a new way to protect others. You’ve helped ease the hardness in my emotions and supported me, despite the fact that I can be a jackass sometimes.” That comment earned a laugh from the teary Kagome.
“Your forgiveness” he continued, “has taught me how to protect you emotionally. I vow to treat you with respect, kindness, and compassion.”
Tears were streaming down Kagome’s face. “It really sounds like you prepared something,” she said in awe.
“What can I say? I’ve been thinking about marrying ya for a long time,” he chuckled and kissed her forehead.
“Okay, well I’ll do what I can. Maybe Goshinboku can help me out here.” Kagome cleared her throat, “I vow to help you see you for who you are every day: a kind, strong, and honest man who’s overcome unimaginable challenges. I feel blessed that I got the chance to meet my soul mate at such an early age. You helped me learn that I’m strong.”
Inuyasha laughed. “You’re the strongest person I know!”
After a moment, Inuyasha began chanting some prayers. Again, Kagome was impressed by how much preparation this had taken for him. She recognized the prayers as special wedding vows Miroku would chant. He had learned them just for her!
After he’d finished chanting, Inuyasha said, “Technically, I can’t marry us since I’m not a monk or anything. But I thought that if I had a priestess here to approve the marriage, perhaps the kami will honour our vows tonight.”
Inuyasha’s eyes began to quiver, and Kagome could see him fighting back tears. Kagome cried openly. “With every cell in my body, I approve and bless these vows.”
The two put their hands in gassho and did a small bow. Then, in a very Western fashion, they crashed onto each other’s lips. They had no reason to hold back anymore.
“And so now you’re my husband.”
“Yeah,” Inuyasha said softly.
It had not been an easy journey. But it was a journey well worth walking.
Author’s Note: thanks so much to everyone who took the time to read this! For the record, Souta actually did show Inuyasha a diamond ring in the anime! So this scenario isn’t out of the realm of possibility!
And a NSFW part 2 coming soon....
