Secret Identity (OP)
oscar piastri x zakbrowndaughter!reader
Tumblr media
You and F1 had never gotten along. It's not like you didn't like racing, you loved it; you'd been at almost every IndyCar race this season. But racing took your dad away from you and that had majorly fractured your relationship.
Being 16 when it happened, you thought it was the end of the world. As an only child, your dad was your best friend and now he lived a whole new life across the world from you. Being as stubborn as he was, you barely spoke the first year that he was gone. It had gotten a little better since then, especially because he had gotten you an internship with Arrow McLaren that turned into a full time job, but it wasn't what it was.
This weekend was definitely him trying to make up a lot to you. Your season was over and F1 was racing in Austin so he flew you out to be a "VIP" guest. And he gave you his credit card for the whole weekend so you swallowed your pride and came.
Being in the F1 paddock was a lot more uptight than you were used to. Way more cameras and people looking frantic; you found yourself missing IndyCar already. Putting your headphones in you turned on your favorite sports podcast while scrolling through your phone in hospitality. The food you grabbed from the buffet barely touched and you didn't notice when someone sat down in the chair diagonal from you.
A couple of minutes later you realized he was saying something to you. Yanking out your airpod you apologized.
"I'm sorry, were you saying something?" You asked and he blushed. You recognized him as one of your dad's drivers, Oscar.
"Yeah, sorry I didn't realize you had headphones in," he said awkwardly. "I was just saying that I hadn't seen you around before."
"Yeah, this is my first F1 race in a very long time," you replied. "My dad works here and asked me to come."
You were thankful when he didn't ask who your dad was.
"Well, thoughts so far?" You shrugged, looking around.
"IndyCar is better," you replied making him chuckle.
"Oh yeah? Go to a lot of those races then?"
"Yeah I actually work for Arrow," you admitted.
"Little bit of nepotism ya think?" He joked and you snorted, if only he really knew.
"Just a little bit," you said, eyes twinkling with amusement. "It's way more relaxed than this."
"I've heard that," he said. "I actually have always been curious about NASCAR."
This surprised you, the boy sitting across from you pretty much screamed the opposite of NASCAR.
"You're looking at me like I just grew another head," he said.
"It's just that you seem so polite and dainty," you said and he scoffed.
"Dainty?" He questioned and you twirled a piece of hair around your finger thinking.
"It's like you have F1 with all your media and PR training," you started. "And then you move to Indy with no training but still some decorum, and then NASCAR where you basically get anti-PR training."
"I think I could surprise you," he said confidently with a flirty edge.
"Oh yeah?" You said and he smirked, dragging his eyes down to your lips and then back up making you flush. Jesus this guys has some kind of weird hot aura.
You chatted a little longer before he got pulled away and you found yourself actually enjoying yourself a little.
Oscar's POV
"Dude what has gotten into you?" Lando was looking at his teammate weird. Oscar had been distracted ever since he got back from lunch, clearly zoning out in their meetings this afternoon. The younger driver blushed and Lando's eyebrows shot up.
"I just met someone very interesting during lunch and it was nice," he said refusing to meet Lando's eyes.
"Was she a guest or what?" Lando asked smirking, following as Oscar started walking out of the garage.
"Yeah, her dad works here or something and she works for our IndyCar team," he said and Lando had to look away to keep from laughing. He knew exactly who Oscar had met but he was not about to let him in on that info.
"It was just nice to talk to someone my age who wasn't a fangirl," he admitted. "Plus she was hot as fuck."
Lando couldn't keep his laughter in at that and Oscar turned to him confused.
"Sorry, I've just never heard you talk about a girl like that," he quickly covered and Oscar nodded.
"Hopefully I'll get to see her again today," he said.
"I'm sure you will," Lando said grinning.
Y/n's POV
Tumblr media
Heading into the McLaren team dinner, you were nervous. There were a ton of people here as basically everyone affiliated with the team + their plus ones were able to come resulting in the team renting out a restaurant.
You absolutely did not want to have to cling to your dad's side for the evening but also you didn't know anyone else here. Your worries were short lived though, as you felt someone softly touch your back.
"Hey," Oscar said smiling and you were relieved.
"Thank god you are here," you said and he laughed.
"Y/n, I'm literally a driver why would I not be here?"
"Idk I was just stressed because I don't really know anyone else."
"Didn't want to sit next to your dad?" He asked and you shook your head.
"We aren't on the best of terms," you admitted and he frowned.
"Well you can come sit with me," he said holding out his hand. You grabbed it and let him drag you over to a table, sitting down next to him on the bench. He introduced you to the other guys at the table, most of them were mechanics and all young enough that they didn't put two and two together about your dad.
As a couple more people joined you had to squeeze closer to Oscar, your thighs touching. He had his arm rested along the top of the railing behind you and it was making your heart rate go up.
You were happy that you had decided to come and found a lot of the younger members of the team easy to talk to. They all drilled you on what IndyCar was like which you enjoyed. As the night came to a close you found yourself wishing it didn't have to.
"Do you want to walk back to the hotel with me?" You asked, turning to Oscar. "It's nice out."
"Yeah, c'mon," he said pulling you up. You passed Lando on the way out and he shot you a wink which you ignored.
Conversation was light as you walked back and after going through a crowd and Oscar grabbing your hand in order to not lose you, you didn't let go. It felt nice and you felt butterflies in your stomach.
As your hotel came in to view, Oscar slowed down, nudging you towards a bench nearby.
"I'm really glad you decided to come this weekend," Oscar said, looking deeply into your eyes.
"Me too," you agreed smiling. Your breath hitched as he got closer, stopping just short of contact.
"Can I kiss you?" He asked and you nodded. He met your lips in a sweet kiss, slowly exploring your mouth with his tongue. After publicly making out for a bit you pulled back, smirking at his flushed face.
"Come up with me?" You asked, adrenaline from the kiss boosting your confidence. His eyes bore into yours, getting darker as he nodded and you led the way back up to your hotel room.
The second the door closed, your back was against the wall his lips on yours. This was not like the kiss you shared outside as you clawed at this shirt, ripping it off his body. His hands moved to your ass, lifting you up and carrying you towards your bed. You pulled your shirt over your head while he worked to slide your jeans off of you.
"So beautiful," he murmured looking down at you. He pushed open your legs and you blushed at being so exposed to him but your mind went blank right as you felt his tongue dart out on your clit. He dragged his tongue threw your folds, circling back up at your clit for a second before moving down again. Your hand found his head as you pulled his hair crying out.
"You like that baby?" He teased and you moaned in response. Adding a finger, you felt yourself nearing the edge of your orgasm and were left a whimpering mess. Looking down and seeing him staring back at you while his mouth covered your pussy sent you over the edge, climaxing all over him. He cleaned you up before standing back up and pumping himself a couple of times with his hand.
"Do you have a condom?" He asked and you shook your head.
"I'm on the pill, don't worry," you said and he nodded. You gasped as you felt him push in and he bottomed out, eyes squeezed shut and breathing heavy.
"Please move," you begged, needing more friction. His eyes snapped open as he set a brutal pace, slamming the headboard into the wall repeatedly. The shy, sweet guy you had met at lunch earlier today was not the same one in front of you.
He leaned down to take one of your nipples into his mouth, nipping lightly causing you to cry out. You moved your legs to be over his shoulders and almost blacked out at the new deeper sensation.
"You like it rough huh," he said, slamming into you his hand finding it's way around your throat. "I want to see my pretty girl cum around my cock."
Your eyes widened at his words, getting closer to finishing. He moved one leg off his shoulder giving him access to bring his chest down to yours as he pounded into you. He brought his hand down to your clit making circular motions and that sent you over the edge. You screamed out as you finished and listened to his grunts as he joined you. Breathing hard he pulled out, staring down at you.
"Shower?" He asked and you nodded. He wrapped his arms around you and carried you to the bathroom where you stepped into a very much needed hot shower. You both were silent as you washed each other.
"I can stay for another hour or so but I have to wake up really early for tomorrow's practice," he said.
"It's okay," you said. "I didn't expect you to sleep over."
He grabbed your chin, pulling it up to look at him.
"I would if I could."
You dried off and cuddled for a little bit before he kissed you goodbye, heading back to his own room.
----------next day--------------
After the practice session ended you found yourself talking to Oscar in the garage when Lando walked up.
"Hey guys," he said looking at you amused.
"Hey, this is y/n," Oscar said and you fidgeted nervously.
"Yeah, we've met," he said full on smirking now as Oscar looked between the two of you confused. "You know who her dad is right?"
You were about to jump in to argue with Lando when you were interrupted by the man himself.
"Hey guys, been keeping my girl company here," your dad Zak said, his arm thrown over your shoulder and leaning in to kiss your forehead. Oscar paled and Lando bust out laughing. "I'll see you guys for the debrief in a bit."
Zak walked away and you turned to Oscar who had yet to come back to reality.
"I was going to tell you," you said softly.
"I slept with my boss's daughter," he said to no one, staring blankly. Lando was laughing so hard he was crying and you did not know what to do. "I slept with Zak's daughter."
You watched as he went through all the stages of grief and then settled back on anger making you flinch.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He demanded but you didn't back down.
"Hmm I don't know let me think," you fake pondered. "Would you have even talked to me if you knew?"
He didn't say anything but you knew the answer. Lando took this as a sign to leave, leaving the two of you together.
"Look, I know I should have told you, but it was fun just getting to be here and with you and feeling normal," you said. "I hate feeling like people are walking on eggshells around me because my dad controls their fate."
You saw his expression soften as he contemplated and you continued.
"I'm never at these races, he doesn't have to know," you said looking down. "I'll leave after this weekend and we can pretend this never happened."
You were prepared for the rejection because come on, who would want to date their boss's kid? That's why you were shocked when he moved closer to you, grabbing your hand.
"That's the problem though," he said. "I don't want to pretend this never happened."
You smiled at him and he wrapped his arms around you. Lando popped back up next to you holding his phone.
"Yeah sorry to eavesdrop lovebirds but the whole world is not going to pretend it didn't happen either," he said and you looked at his phone. It was a video of you and Oscar making out outside of the hotel. The next thing you heard was the unmistakable scream of your father.
"WHERE IS OSCAR? AND WHERE IS MY FUCKING DAUGHTER?"

As much as Iman doesn’t mind and is one hundred percent on board for all the filming and hanging out with the drivers, she's happy that it’s not an every day of the week and every class kind of thing. There’s a level of mental capacity it takes to deal with the people around her while doing this that she can’t maintain every day.
But today isn’t one of those days. Today they’re at a track and that’s one of her favorite places to be no matter where it is.
NOLA Motorsports Park hasn’t seen any real IndyCar action since twenty fifteen, but it’s still a place that some teams use when they want to test and practice in a place where it wouldn’t really be expected. Though there were times they did open the public stuff and in about a month there would be a McLaren sponsored karting tournament for kids already in and new to the world of motorsport.
Iman looks forward to that day because she enjoys helping the kids with their races and even more so helping them understand how their karts work. She was even going to be in charge of a more informational segment that she knows is going to be boring as hell, but hopefully insightful for kids and their parents.
The sport can be hard enough getting into it and she wanted to make it easier for them. Even if she felt a little like a fraud speaking as her path hasn’t really been from the ground up like half the kids there.
But at the moment what she’s most happy about is that she isn’t the one making the drive to the track. The place is over an hour from her apartment and though it rarely feels that long it’s nice to have someone else to do it.
Though she could do without being sandwiched between her brother and her new frenemy, Lance.
“It’s a Canadian sport. And they are original, how could you dislike them? They have more championships than Seattle has in years playing. I mean I like them too, but come on, Iman.”
The entire rant is funny and it’s the same argument they’ve had twice now after he found out that she enjoys hockey. They’ve talked a little about football too, but the moment she enacted her duty of humbling a Canadian it’s been a back and forth of him being flustered over her dislike of almost all the Canadian teams in the NHL. Most of it being due to her disdain for certain players - most of which for petty reasons and some because they’re assholes.
She reaches out and pats his leg, giving him a soft and kind look that’s only playfully condescending.
“How about we pick this back up when a Canadian team breaks their thirty year streak of not winning the Stanley Cup. Something multiple players in Seattle have done in that time period.”
“You went there?”
“I went there.”
Lance huffs and puffs. He tries to say something, but every time his mouth opens he closes it again. If I didn’t notice the way he wanted to laugh and the resignation in his expression I would fear I’d genuinely offended him, but I know I hadn’t. Poor man knew it was the truth, even if it was a painful one.
“It’s their year.”
“Who’s year?”
He sighs. “I don’t know. One of them.”
“Leafs?”
At that he makes a face that can only be read as disgust.
“You’re mad at me and you don’t even like them.”
“I’m obligated.”
“I get it.”
Because she does. That conditionally and sometimes fake patriotism got the best of her too.
She opens her mouth to bring them back to common ground by shitting on Vegas, but for the tenth time there’s a pull at some strands of hair at the back of her head. Eyes narrowed she turns her head to look at her brother. Who doesn’t even bother to look away or remove his hand.
“Why?”
Lewis shrugs.
Rolling her eyes she reaches up and pulls on one of his braids, earning a swat to her hand.
“Don’t pull my hair,” he says.
“Then don’t pull mine.”
And he does it again.
Like the child she sometimes is, she goes to retaliate, but the van rolls to a stop and she settles for glaring at him.
“Ha.”
“Oh, shut up.”
With the last word she follows the others out of the van, “accidentally” kicking Lewis on her way out. By the time he’s out and able to get her back she’s already standing at the front of everyone barely suppressing a gleeful smile. He joins the group and flips her off in a covert way and she does the same.
Not them doing that on the low mattered since the cameras weren’t focused on the group yet. Every camera person is huddled together talking amongst themselves.
“Is that a McLaren indycar?” Alex asks.
“Sure is.”
Daniel raises his hand, a broad smile on his face. “Are we going to get in it?”
“Maybe.”
That seems to shock everyone, but there is some giddiness to it. One would think that a group of men who raced for a living and who would be back to doing it in about a week wouldn’t be so eager to get into a car. But then again that’s the driving force of why some of them do it for a living.
Before anyone can say anything else Anne walks up and the camera surrounds them. Anne gestures to Iman and she takes her cue.
Iman hitches her thumb backward. “This is where I do a lot of my internship work during the school year. Though it’s not often used for pro-racing, it is used for testing. And that’s what McLaren’s Indycar team is doing here for the next month or so. And today you’ll be helping me with work.
“All of you know there is some level of secrecy going on with this stuff, but everything you see and hear today will be things that are known to the public or that no one cares about anyone else knowing. Plus, this testing is for this past season's car, not the coming one.
“We’re going to get a tour of the place and then get to work. Any questions before we get things going?”
The group is quiet and after a few seconds Iman nods and then turns. She leads the group up to the pit lane where McLaren mechanics await them. There are greetings and then another explanation of what they’re doing there. Then they’re led off on a tour of the spaces. They field questions from the drivers and to round out the tour they end up back in front of where they started.
“Okay, so we’re trying to figure out what went wrong with this engine during one of the races this season. We had to replace the whole thing and it didn’t become a priority to take it apart and find out, so that’s what we’re doing now to see if there’s anything we need to change in the future,” the head mechanic says.
He looks around at everyone in the way one does when ensuring that they have a listening audience.
“Okay, so you’ll see what Iman and our team do to figure that out. I know this could be more exciting, but we decided this is a good glimpse to really show what she does and in a way we’re comfortable showing. You’ll pair off and our people will explain what’s going on. Feel free to ask questions and point out any oddities you see, we need all the eyes on this that we can get. It’s all preliminary, so they won’t be at it for long and then that’s where the fun begins.”
He shares a mischievous smile with Iman and by the looks of everyone it makes them a bit unsettled.
“What does that mean?” Lance asks.
Iman shrugs. “You’ll see. Now go get changed.”
They do what she says even though she could see the questions they want to ask.
About ten minutes later everyone returns in coveralls. Iman is already dressed in the clothes she works in so she’s sitting on a rolling chair when they return.
“Ready?” she asks.
They nod.
“Okay, I’m not going to treat this like a class room so everyone in groups of two and then you’ll be with one of us.”
Much like all Iman’s years of school, all the drivers freeze. Then they all scramble toward their chosen person. Despite the small group - or because of how small it was - some end up losing out. It takes all of her not to burst into laughter when Carlos goes for Charles and Lewis snatches up the Monégasque. Which means Carlos is with Daniel. The man pouts while Daniel grins ear to ear, but you could tell it was more playful.
Lewis and Charles laugh at their antics and Iman knows that those two groups are going to be a chaotic mess.
And because she’s so busy holding back giggles at their nonsense, she misses the chance to grab a group that doesn’t contain her brother. She knows that part of this whole thing is wanting them to be together, but she would be a bad little sister if she didn’t act indignant about it.
“I guess I’m stuck with you too,” she says, rolling her eyes.
Lewis grins. “Yes, you are. You’ll love it. Won’t she Charles?”
Both men turn their heads to face each other and they share similar grins. Then they turn to her and she sees devious intentions in their eyes. Iman feels like they’re plotting against her and she doesn’t like that.
“Of course. We are a delight,” Charles says.
Now she really knows they’re going to be a handful. Though she hopes putting them to work will help.
“Sure, you will be. How about using that delightfulness to help me disassemble this.”
She gestures to the problem engine. She’s to take care of that one while the others look at two others. Both of them cling to their little creep show and then finally nod and help her disassemble the thing. Lewis is a little competent in it because she always talked about it and forced him to learn, but Charles is a little surprising to her. But it’s nice to only have to give a little guidance and get to focus on her work.
Of course she gets so into it that she forgets that she should probably talk to them a little after Charles clears his throat. By the sounds of it he’d been trying to get her attention for a little while.
“Sorry, can you repeat that?”
“You work for McLaren?” he asks.
“This year.”
“Only this year? They seem very okay with this for such a short time.”
“Once before, but for a shorter amount of time then. I’ve done about four internships, two of them with them. One in Nascar and another for a different IndyCar team.”
“Wow, that’s a lot. How do you find the time?”
“I don’t. Just chaos twenty-four seven.” She laughs. “But to be fair, the first IndyCar was when I was a senior in high school. They were doing a program for kids of that age to get them interested and I was a test subject. Since my mother worked for them it was more likely they’d get better feedback versus the kids who might be scared saying anything could get them blacklisted.”
“Really?”
Iman smiles. “Really. There weren’t many issues and nothing major though, so it was fine.”
“No, I mean in high school?”
“Yup. It’s what happens when you tell the people in your life what you want to do for a living and they have the connections. The moment my mom knew I was serious she had me applying everywhere and brought me in to shadow her and anyone else she could have agree. I was annoying, but good enough that they didn’t tell her to stop.”
Talking with Charles is easy and the conversation is one that helps her focus on the task of disassembling the unnecessarily greasy mess that is her side of the engine. Something is peaceful about it too. Nice even.
When she looks up and past Charles to her brother Iman sees a weird expression on Lewis' face. It’s one he wears when he knows something or thinks he knows something and a weird smile. She wants to question it, but thinks better of it. Knowing Lewis it will irritate her and there is a part of her brain that is sure she knows what that look is for and she refuses to address it.
Not stepping into that shit show. Nope.
“Okay, what happened?” Lewis asks.
“It stopped the car completely and then when we went to check it there was a small-ish fire.”
“Excuse me?”
“I was the furthest from the fire, Lew.”
There’s some grumbling, but his expression and body language mellows out. Not much though. For some reason Iman looks to Charles for support, but instead she’s on the receiving end of a look that gives off mild anger and a silver of disappointment. Of course she doesn’t know Charles well enough for her to fully understand his expressions, but she’s familiar with the reactions of siblings.
Iman groans. “Oh come on. Not you too.”
“I’d be mad at my brothers for it as well,” Charles says.
Lewis fist bumps the man and they both stare Iman down as if expecting something like an apology from her. One that she isn’t willing to give, because while she gets the worry and is appreciative of it - especially when Charles barely knows her - this is her job. She’s made a career choice and these kinds of situations are the kind of shitty parts that she expects and that need to be expected. Especially from people who’ve seen their fair share of chaos and tragedy in the world of motorsport. She knows that that’s probably why they’re worse about it. But Iman also knows that there’s something more to it.
Instead of indulging them she rolls her eyes and focuses on the engine. They join in after a couple seconds and she guides them through it, telling them the running theory on what they think caused the fire and answering the questions they have about all the ways their hypothesis could be true.
The help feels nice. They don’t slow her down at all and even if they did she realizes that she wouldn’t mind it. Their interest makes it enjoyable.
By the time they finish they’ve mostly ruled out what it wasn’t but have no confirmation on if what McLarens mechanics think went wrong did. It’s frustrating, but Iman knew enough about the job to know that eliminating possibilities was sometimes better than finding the answer right away. In this case it meant she could catch anything that was also an issue, but didn’t get its chance to show out. And there were at least two of those issues she had to document.
Iman follows the other mechanics to give a report and compare notes and she returns changed into clothes she brought with her. When she emerges on the track the drivers are also back in their clothes and standing in front of some of the newest cars from their respective brands or the creators of the engines their F1 car uses.
Lance is looking at her with a raised brow as she enters their field of view and the others appear curious.
“What’s happening here?” Daniel asks, though with how giddy he is Iman knows he knows.
“Friendly race.”
As if they weren’t professional drivers that did this multiple times a year an electric kind of excitement filled the circle. It’s classic teenage boy behavior as they nudge each other and talk shit.
Anne steps in and grabs everyone’s attention.
“We’re going to have a friendly race. Everyone will be paired up and though there is only one tandem here, you can’t be paired with your teammate.” There is some groaning from the Ferrari boys. “And, because we have a McLaren IndyCar driver here waiting around, Pato O’Ward, will be joining in on the fun.”
Pato appears the moment his name is mentioned. He wears a wide smile and shyly waves to the group.
“Hey, guys. Hope you don’t mind me crashing this.”
“Dibs!” Daniel yells.
Everyone startles, but then it’s a bunch of eye rolling and some bashfulness from Pato.
“That’s fine, Daniel. I was going to choose who gets who, but it's free for all. So pick yo…”
Before Anne can finish what she’s saying everyone scrambles and Iman crosses paths with Lewis. She knocks into him, sending him a little off kilter and with enough force that he ends up next to Carlos and her next to Charles.
“Hey!” he shouts.
Iman waves. “Hi.”
“You know what.. How dare… Why?”
“I haven’t caused you suffering in a while, which I’m obligated as a little sister to do. Also I’ve driven many Mercedes. I want to try out a Ferrari. Plus, even if I didn’t go for Charles the odds of me reaching Carlos before Lance chooses between him and Albon were low. Shit end of the stick, Lew.”
Everyone laughs as they watch a series of emotions play on the man’s face. He huffs and puffs as he tries to find the words.
Realization dawns on Lewis’ face.
“Wait. No. You’re not racing. You can’t… This isn’t… No.”
Every sentence he starts is clearly going to lead to the interaction turning from funny to a little more serious, so Iman lets him work through finding his words.
“Then you shouldn’t have taught me how. I’m not the one who got grounded at his big age for letting me race a car by a woman who is not their mother.”
Alex snickers. “Wait. He did?”
“Yup. Of course she couldn’t make it stick, but she was trying hard to figure out all the ways she could.”
Lewis winces, probably remembering it. Then he rolls his eyes and sulks. “Fine.”
With a much gentler smile Iman walks over and places a kiss on Lewis’ cheek and ruffles his braids, then retakes her spot next to Charles. Though he fights against it she watches the sulking stop
“Okay, just don’t cry to her or dad when I kick your ass.”
“Bring it.”
Anne retakes control of the conversation and directs everyone to their cars. They’re all given helmets, because this is hot lap adjacent.
“Everyone will get one lap, then you’ll swap. This is about speed and I know that every one of you is capable of doing this in this type of vehicle, but I’m reminding you all to be safe. Nothing crazy unless you’re sure you can execute it without risk to yourself and everyone else. Got it?”
There’s a chorus of agreement.
They all discuss who is going first, but Iman just directs Charles to the driver’s side. He looks at her with a brow raised in question, but then he follows her gaze and sees that Carlos is taking this lap. He smiles and nods.
Once in the car they strap in and Charles takes a few deep breaths. They’re given the signal to get into place and they get into a formation that works for them. Charles looks at her, a smirk on his lips that is equal parts cocky and confident.
“Ready?”
“Yes, I am.”
He extends his arm, his hand in a fist. Iman bumps it without question. Then they both turn forward and wait for the go ahead.
Despite seeing it at the same time as Charles and preparing herself, Iman's heart drops to her ass once he hits the gas. It takes a few seconds for her to chill out and by then they’re on the first turn.
Charles drives seamlessly and despite the blur of their surroundings Iman doesn't feel like she’s going terribly fast. Then a Mercedes sails by and then another. Without having to think about what’s happening. He is pushing it, but he’s holding back.
“I’d be disappointed if you didn’t let loose Charlie.”
He barely glances at her, probably to gauge if she means it, and then he pushes it. In about ten seconds he’s passed one of the cars in front of them and is fighting off the other. The others behind them catch up and it’s a battle back there, but it’s irrelevant to the one in front of them.
At every instance he tries to get around the Mercedes she knows Carlos is driving, but despite almost getting past he misses the mark by half a second. Before they know it they’re crossing the finish line barely behind the Mercedes. There’s a three way tie for the others about two seconds later.
And then everyone exits their cars. There’s some bragging and arguing. As Charles and Iman change sides he lightly bumps into Carlos with a frown on his face. He’s trying to seem upset, but the smile he’s wearing is wide.
“What about being comrades?” Charles jokes.
Carlos laughs. “Not here.”
Iman slides into the driver’s seat and takes a few deep breaths as her fingers trace the steering wheel. Nerves creep in, but they leave her the moment she feels a hand on her shoulder. She turns to see Charles looking at her with a bit of concern.
“Are you okay?”
“A little bit of nerves. Nothing I won’t shake as I put them behind us.”
That brings back the smirk that he wore when he was behind the wheel. There was obviously going to be some uncertainty about her being the only non-driver in the race, but as she smiles back at Charles she realizes he didn’t bring that up or seem bothered when she snatched him up from someone who he’d seen do this for a living. It was a nice reassurance. Even if she knew damn well she could hang with the big boys. At least in this kind of situation, behind an F1 car was another thing entirely.
A muffled shout interrupts the moment and Charles puts down his window, revealing Lewis with his own down. He’s smiling, but it’s that stupid lazy one he puts on when he’s feeling himself.
Annoying man.
“Ready to lose, Immy?”
Of course he uses that nickname while being annoying.
“You should be asking yourself that, LuLu.”
“Well, I am a seven time…”
Iman flips him off and he shuts up, looking appalled. Charles puts the window back up while laughing, but she catches Lewis’ returning the gesture.
Again Charles reaches out and they bump fists. Then it’s lights out and away they go.
In comparison Iman’s take off is delayed, but despite the few inches everyone has in front of her when she does get going, she closes and surpasses it. She puts her speed over one hundred and keeps it there on the first turn. Lewis pulls ahead and so does Lance, but she manages to evade being boxed out and puts a little over a second between them.
The next turn has her losing speed a little, but she regains it and keeps herself next to Lance and Daniel for the straight and then on the next turn, she guns it. With ease she ends up in front of Lance and then she’s next to the Mercedes. Lewis increases speed, but it doesn’t beat her out. In the final turn she does what she did in the last one and pushes the car to its limits. The last few feet before the end of the track are a close race, but at the last second she pushes further.
With her speed the car goes past the finish, but it’s a second or two before her brother crosses the line. Everyone else trails by a second or more and then they all leave the car. Iman is shaking from the speed and the excitement. Charles rushes over and pulls her into a hug she happily returns.
“That was great. No, excellent. You crushed it,” Charles says.
“Thank you.”
There’s some shit talking, but they all praise her.
Lewis is pouting, but it’s not fooling her at all. He’s the last to pull her into a hug and it’s tight.
“You did fucking phenomenal, Immy. I didn’t expect that. You blew away all expectations,” he says.
As he pulls away he kisses the top of her head and refuses to let her go. Pride shines on his face and she feels even more proud of herself. She feels like she’s the shit. There are no delusions of grandeur on the level they’re at, but she beat multiple professional racers at something adjacent to their own game and that’s good enough.
“I did learn some things from the best,” she says.
He laughs, throwing his head back a little and then pulls her into another hug. They pull away and Pato walks up, patting her arm.
“Maybe you should be in Nascar, that was better than your IndyCar test,” Pato says.
“Her what? You’re what?” Lewis moves so fast to look at Pato and Iman that he should have whiplash.
“Uh…”
Pato winces. “Was that supposed to be a secret?”
“Iman Marie Hamilton. You’re what?”
He moves toward her just as she ducks behind Charles. With how serious - but not in a bodily harm way - he looks she’s sure Charles is going to move out of her brother’s war path, but he reaches a hand around and takes hold of her shirt. As Lewis tries to get around him he moves with her, using the shirt to leverage her.
“Maybe we should forget this and go to dinner.”
Sweet Charles is trying to de-escalate, but it’s not working and that’s in part because he can’t stop himself from giggling. Which turns Lewis ire from just  Iman to both of them.
“LeClerc. Is this the war you want?”
Everyone holds their breath and seconds tick by.
“Yes.”
And without a word Iman breaks into a sprint with Charles following suit. Carlos has chosen Lewis' side so he goes for his teammate. Pato and Lance run interference for Iman while Alex and Daniel join in the sport of being the first to get to Charles. It’s chaos and it dissolves into laughter and labored breathing so quickly. Yet none of them stop.
You’d think they were all a bunch of children and not very much grown adults. But it’s so funny that Anne puts the camera people to work chasing them down for all the actions.

any underrated f1 driver nicknames?
A list of my favorites:
<><><>
Nicolas Latifi — The Goat
Nicolas Latifi’s poor performance from 2020-2022 earned him that juxtaposition of a nickname: The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. His most impressive feat is no being disqualified from any of the 61 races he started. He crashed out of a few, but he was never disqualified before they started!
Vittorio Brambilla — The Monza Gorilla
The man’s massive build resembling that of an olympic wrestler, and his birthplace of Monza, got him the rather interesting nickname. A doctor once described his handshake as “crushing.”
James hunt — Hunt the Shunt
His habit of destroying competition to the best of his machinery’s ability (and sometimes even past it) was somewhat hampered by his tendency to either dominate… or detonate.
Andrea de Cesaris - Andrea de Crasheris: well uh… I'm gonna be blunt, this man retired from more races than he finished. 208 grand prix, 148 retirements. That is, and I must stress this: SEVENTY ONE PERCENT OF HIS RACES.
Graham Hill — Mr. Monaco
From 1963 to 1969, so seven races, he won Monaco FIVE TIMES (‘63, ‘64, ‘65, ‘68, ‘69), and was on the podium the other two times. He’s also the only driver in history to ever win the triple crown in racing: Monaco Grand Prix (F1), 24 Hours of Le Mans (WEC), and the Indianapolis 500 (IndyCar). That's the modern definition of it, technically there's a second definition of what counts as the Triple Crown and a whole list of who’s-won-what, but I can talk about that later.
<><><>
And my two favorites:
Nico Rosberg — Britney
Because he’s blonde. And because Mark Webber called him that on radio, likely to be derogatory, a comment on his dramatic nature and frankly quite luscious locks.
The interaction was actually hilarious. Rosberg had crashed into Webber (they were teammates at the time), resulting in damage for both. Rosberg then lost control of his car due to the damage that he caused, and smacked into the side of the track. Webber was told to let Rosberg pit first, to which Webber replied:
“Britney’s in the wall.”
I love snarky Australian men.
And of course, Ayrton Senna — the Rain Master
Pretty self explanatory, but most people don’t truly understand just how good Senna was in the rain. The best way I can explain? The 1993 European Grand Prix at Donington Park. One lap, pouring rain, fifth to first. It’s been called “The Lap of the Gods.” In case you need more proof of its insanity? Even F1 themselves, notorious for overlooking a lot of driver achievement, can admit it:

Yaaay, thank you so much! Can I request one where reader is helping Pietro with his move to Indy and they are changing their routine in order to adjust to his new life or something like that? To be honest, you can do pretty much anything with it, feel free to change it or even go into more detail. Again, thank you so, so much :)
No Place Like Home (Pietro Fittipaldi X Reader)
Fandom: RPF/Indycar
Requested: Clearly (of course love <3 hope you like this)
Warnings: FYI I know he's from Miami, but Miami to Indianapolis is nothing, so I said he lived in Brazil
POV: Second Person (You/your)
W.C. 1050
Summary: Moving to a new country is hard.
As always, my requests are OPEN
MASTERLIST // HITLIST

“Is now a bad time to mention that I don’t like America?” You laughed as you set down the last box in the apartment you and Pietro just moved into. With his new full-time Indycar seat, you two had to move from your home in Brazil to Indianapolis. You kept your house for obvious reasons, but for the majority of the year, you two would have to relocate to America.
“That would be unfortunate given that we just moved in,” He chuckled nervously as he closed the door. Then he navigated through the haphazardly placed boxes to reach you, standing by the widow looking out.
“I already miss Brazil,” You muttered to yourself as you took in the new view, “I’ll come around to it eventually, but right now, I miss home.”
“It’ll get easier once we make this place home,” He reassured as he wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you back to him. He swayed the two of you back and forth as you reached up to hold his forearms. “It’ll just take some getting used to. We’ll get there.”
Indeed you did. While It took you about a month to make the apartment a home, you were finally coming around to the idea of living in America. Sure, the season was underway now, but you were finally getting into a grove with America.
Unfortunately, Pietro was not having the same experience. While he was optimistic at first, he realized quickly that America was not Brazil. All of his comfort foods were in Brazil. All of his family (minus you) was in Brazil. Almost all of his friends were either in Brazil or racing in other categories. Despite being an Indycar reserve driver for 2 years, he had not made that many friends with the drivers because he was mainly working with the team.
The next race was the Indy500, the most prestigious race of the year. You had heard from the fellow driver, namely Christian Lundgaard, that Pietro was not himself anymore. Christian, Pietro and you go back because you used to sponsor Christian when he started out in karting, so you knew you could trust Christain’s word.
You had called your mother-in-law and asked for some of her recipes. You could not cook to save your life, but you bet that you could follow a recipe. Plus, they were all Pietro’s favorites! You were going to do your damn hardest to make them as great as possible.
You were at the track with Pietro for the race. He did not qualify as high as you knew he could, but he did finish in 12th! You told him you would head home because you were “tired,” so you suggested he catch a ride with Christian.
This was not something knew. You would rather be at the apartment than be forced to wait around a slowly emptying race track for hours. There were always more productive things to you, you told him one time. None the wiser, that’s what Pietro thought of this instance.
On the way up to your apartment, you looked through the recipes your mother-in-law sent you, and you decided on Moqueca. You immediately recognized it as Pietro’s favorite, and you remembered him asking his mom to make it whenever you were visiting them. To put it simply, it’s fish stew, but the recipe was so much more complex than you would have thought for soup. Maybe there was a reason this was Pietro’s comfort food.
The first thing you did was cut up your snapper, so it could marinate while you prepped everything else. The time for marinating was only 20 minutes, so you went ahead and cut up the bell peppers, onion, garlic, coriander, and tomatoes. You also grabbed out all of the spices you would need, so you would not need to worry about that later.
At that point, the fish had marinated for long enough. You pulled it out and started cooking it. It did not take long since it was cut up into small pieces. Once that was finished, you started sauteing the onions, garlic, and peppers and added the spices. Next, you added the coconut, olive oil, and broth to the pot and put the fish back in to simmer. The last thing you did was start some rice.
While the was simmering and the rice was cooking, you decided to begin cleaning up. There were dishes in the sink already, so you cleaned those up. There were also miscellaneous vegetable bits on the counter. It did not take too long to get everything cleaned up, so you jumped into the shower quickly. You had at least 30 minutes before Pietro would be home, so you had enough time.
Fun fact, you did not have enough time.
You were just getting out of the shower when you heard the door open. At first, you thought it was just in your head, but when you heard Pietro call out to you, you knew that the timing was wrong.
You slowly walked out of the bathroom wrapped in the towel, wanting to see his reaction. To say he was shocked would be downplaying it.
When he was walking down the hall to the apartment, he thought he could smell his comfort food. He was not going to lie, he thought he was hallucinating and missing home too much. As soon as he walked through the door, he felt at home. For the first time, he felt like everything was going to be okay, and you two would make Indianapolis your home.
“Pietro?” You whispered, snapping him out of his thoughts. He was staring off into the kitchen, and he did not even notice you move to stand in front of him. In the time between you walking out of the bathroom and standing in front of him, you went into your bedroom and threw on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt (both of which are Pietro’s) before you moved to stand in front of him. He finally snapped out of his thoughts when he felt your hands cradling his face as you forced him to look at you. “Are you okay?”
“I’m perfect,” He whispered back as he held your wrists and pulled you in for a kiss.

Wildcards are a Great Idea
Bit of a shorter, popup blogpost today, but wildcards are a great idea.
What prompted all this? Well, KTM just announced that Dani Pedrosa will race on a third Red Bull KTM bike at the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, and then Pol Espargaro will race that bike at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello a month later. Last year, Pedrosa was instantly competitive in his two wildcards in Jerez and Misano, finishing 6th in the Jerez sprint, seventh in the Jerez race, and then taking a pair of fourth place finishes at Misano. This is awesome.
Similarly, we effectively have wildcards in American motorsports, in that we have one-off entries that can be super competitive. Think of Shane Van Gisbergen last year, the Australian Supercars champion came over, hopped in the Trackhouse Project 91 entry, and won at the Chicago street race, becoming the first driver to win his first cup race since like the 1950s. That is awesome.
And what's even more awesome is that now, between Xfinity and Cup, SVG is now turning that into a full-time career pivot to NASCAR, something only possible because he had that one-off chance to showcase his talent.
Similarly, the last week or so, we've gotten a raft of one-offs announced for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 - Katherine Legge giving us a competitive woman to cheer for, crowd favorite Conor Daly back in an Indycar, and 2012 series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay as his teammate at Dreyer & Reinbold. These are three really good drivers with lots of history in the series getting another shot at Indycar racing's greatest prize. That is awesome.
And then there's Formula One.
The same twenty cars each and every race with the same Red Bull driver destined to win virtually every week. I have a lot of problems with F1 and it's going to take a lot for me to fall back in love with the racing series that meant so much to me for most of my life. That being said, even here, wildcards could certainly spice up the show.
Ollie Bearman had that hugely impressive race in Saudi Arabia filling in for Carlos Sainz, imagine if Ferrari had the freedom to give him two or three more races in a third car at the likes of Imola, Silverstone, and Monza. Similarly, Red Bull could give Liam Lawson some more F1 experience in one of its teams, especially if they're considering him for a future ride.
Or we could see a direct parallel with Dani Pedrosa - in that retired family man Sebastian Vettel could team up with one of the teams he raced for - Toro Rowhateverthey'recallednow, Red Bull, Ferrari, or Aston - and pick and choose a few of his favorite racers. Everyone seems to want him back anyway, so why not let him do this in a way that doesn't subject him to the absurd demands of a twenty-four race globetrotting season?
I grew up thinking F1 was the greatest motorsport had to offer, but as I get older, I appreciate the more open systems in other racing series. It's really damn cool when we get these competitive one-off racers every once in awhile.
You don't hurt anything by adding a new, interesting storyline.

Pretty random question, but what are your favourite things about Logan? Like some cute facts/things about him that you like and feel like people should know
I think a lot of people judge him too quickly, he deserves more love and appreciation :((
this is an excellent question anon... clearly i have a lot of things i like about logan. i really like logan. in case if this blog was not enough. BUT. i will yell about a few random things since you asked (+ i agree people are very quick to judge him. give my boy a chance. i cannot tell you how many times i've seen people say stuff like "i wrote him off at first but he actually seems sweet" STOP WRITING HIM OFF THEN!) anyways. Favorite Things
there's a lot of insanity going on here i love logan so much did you know
first and foremost. i love how much he loves his friends... and just how outwardly he loves in general... the "heart on his sleeve" thing does come from somewhere. given really any opportunity he Will talk about his friends and his family and every time it Kills me like :( whenever someone mentions how long he's been racing oscar he talks about it and there's one where it's mentioned he was teammates with oscar back in f4 and he's like "well actually before that too!" idk. surely you know how i feel about logan and oscar but logan has emphasized their friendship more than once and always stresses how they've gotten along so well forever and even being title rivals in f3 never came between them... my little loscar heart...
and still on that. him and kyle. i love kyle kirkwood (indycar driver + friend of logan) if you were not aware and he does the same thing where someone will bring him up and he's like "yeah kyle's my boy!" it makes me so...... put him in his indy 500 top 3 prediction bc he's his buddy and knows he's good was asked Just about key lime pie and had to say "well my friend kyle makes a really good key lime pie" even after he just said he never really eats pie? idk man. he just loves his friends <3
AND HE LOVES WHERE HE'S FROMMM like yes a bit in a patriotic american way and maybe i only like that because i'm american but he is such a hometown guy he clearly loves and misses florida and all the people he still knows who live there. have you seen his 10 things i can't live without interview that video is basically just 8 minutes of logan sargeant loving florida. and he's so cute in that video i love that video but he can and he will talk about being from florida at any given opportunity (+ very much harps on how much he enjoys being out on the water) and i'm sure some people think it's annoying but personally i find it very endearing... and putting the flag on his helmet he is just a proud guy. i care him. he's said he wants to race the indy 500 too which also gets the indycar fan in me but he wants to race it bc it's iconic and idk most f1 drivers don't want to do the 500 bc oval scary (real of them) but logan is like. no i'm Going to do it one day. it's the biggest motorsport event and i will do it. I WILL NOT REST UNTIL HE DOES.
this one is a bit more stupid but i am forever amused by just how much of a younger brother he is. maybe i just relate to him bc i'm also the youngest of two (and my sister and i have pretty much the same gap he has to dalton) but he is so little sibling energy, especially with alex. he's a little menace. particularly evident in the monaco road trip video where alex tells him to lie and he goes along with it while also trying to make alex do it for him (he's so me) and the sandwich challenge where he whines every time alex gets in his way. i know benny's kid calls him his older brother but he is so little brother it's unreal. on the brother note this fucking idiot cracked his rib karting with dalton and that's also hilarious
I DON'T KNOW MAN. i love listening to him talk. i love all his weird little quirks like how much shoulder he puts into his walk and how much he fiddles around and can't sit still and the way he almost seems to make himself smaller?? this guy is nearly six feet tall but he carries himself like a much shorter man i think it's endearing. i'm really endeared to his smile and his smiling habits (see my thesis it's a whole thing) and also all his other weird mouth ticks he has several i love that he always seems to want to be close to people (he's very touchy. if you pay attention) i love how weirdly shy he is (likes sunglasses bc you can hide behind them) i love his incessant need to have perfect hair all of the time like see the monaco video i linked earlier where he's riding in a convertible trying to fix his hair DUDE IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN i love. Him.
man. i just think. that i love logan. he is my favorite for a reason. and even if he is a bit of a rah rah american (i lit listed his americanisms as one of my favorite things i enjoy them) i am slightly tired of him getting written off as just being The American or not having a personality like he's definitely more private about certain parts of his life compared to other drivers but that doesn't mean he lacks personality. maybe he is a little more softspoken too which might not help but it is there!!! he is not a piece of cardboard you just aren't giving him the time of day!!! giving him enough time of day to say he's boring but not enough to actually realize he's not

hi emmy!! first of all, so nice to meet you and be mutuals!! i was actually so excited when you followed me back because i've been wanting more indycar mutuals that series is everything to me lately, i'm still living off a high, i miss it!! plus siiiiiiick url, those are both my boys so i love that!! 🫶
some fun get-to-know-you questions for me and your followers!!
what first attracted you to motorsports?? (for indycar and f1!!)
if you could go to any race (indycar and/or f1), which one would it be??
what olympic sport would you LOVE to play (you don't need to be good at it in real life, which one seems the coolest to you)??
such a pleasure being mutuals!! and can't wait to get to know you a bit better :)
OMG!! I was soooo excited when you had followed me so this is amazing!!! And it’s nice to meet you as well!!!
The reason I got into f1 is a bit embarrassing… so I’m a writer and at the start of last year I had wanted to expand my writing genre because I’m normally write fantasy novels but I wanted to explore a bit and one of the genre that I wanted to write in was romance, specifically sports romance. I was having a hard time figuring out which one I was going to pick, like I’m a big NFL fan also I’m a (casual)fan of tennis but one day I was scrolling on TikTok and saw someone had posted a video of Checo reacting to Seb retirement video on DTS and thought that it looked really cool so I watched it and thought it was great and when I saw that the season was about to start, I got a subscription to F1tv and have been in love with the sport since then. And then since I loved f1 so much I decided to give IndyCar a chance and I’m in love with them both🥰 (funny enough I never ended up writing that book 😭)
My dream is to eventually see the triple crown races in real life and not on my couch so I would love to go to the Indy500 and the Monaco Grand Prix but I would also love to go to mid-Ohio because it’s my home race and sliverstone because it’s one of my favorite tracks!
Tennis 100%!!! My mom was a tennis player in high school so we would sometimes play together during the summer time in the evening plus one summer I did a week long tennis camp and it was very fun!!!
Also thank you for the compliment on my username and a little fun fact I pick Colton as my number one driver when I got into IndyCar not because he was a great driver (which he is) but because I have his dad car! It’s from his CART days and my dad had bought it back in the day and when I told my dad I was going to start watching IndyCar he gave it to me:) it seats next to my racing Barbie!

it's not necessarily reading twitter or insta comments (i don't use twitter much at all anymore and i've had mclaren blocked on all socials since the ricciardo days when they were allowing their team to get harrassed too lol), but it's just like you can curate your spaces so well and you're still going to get posts recommended to you from these damn algorithms that are like “lando is washed,” “lando is going to get exposed,” and idk it gets old.
even reddit, which used to be a voice of reason when it came to actually discussing races/drivers, you cannot have a single lando thread without half the comments being about lando never winning a race or oscar beating him to the first race win and it's like oh my god. who the fuck cares. ocon got the win over alonso in 2021, do people actually think ocon is a significantly better driver than alonso. carlos got ferrari's only win and the only non-rbr win in 2023, do people really think he's significantly better than most of the grid, including his teammate charles? george is mercedes’ last race winner. do people, especially after last year, truly think he's at a higher level than lewis right now? like wins are great. i'd sacrifice my firstborn for lando to get a race win. if oscar gets one first, that's fine. it doesn't mean lando has failed or is washed up or isn't as talented. (i also feel like half of these people don't even like or care about oscar, they just want to see lando get beat. like theres this sick trend on tumblr, reddit, media in general of wanting to see oscar win first and lando fall in this unbeatable depression that has me like what the everliving fuck is wrong with you, but i also have enough decency to think actual mental health problems should be off-limits as criticisms. theres a difference between saying one driver handles pressure better than another, an actual analysis/criticism, versus wishing to see a driver struggle mentally for entertainment).
and this is nothing against oscar at all. it's pretty apparent lando likes him, the team likes him, and he's a major talent. there's just loud parts of his “fanbase” (again i use this term loosely because half these people dont seem to care as much about oscar as they do seeing lando get “exposed” or whatever the fuck) that lack the ability to praise him without shitting all over lando.
and idk. i have full belief in lando as a driver. but some of these criticisms hit pretty close to home when you follow and support him because he's the driver you find most relatable and suddenly the majority of the criticism isn't about his driving, but his character or personality and how people perceive that.
i also just think this overanalysis of his mistakes while others get this free pass because fans/media always insist on blaming the team or others (won't name names, but i have a feeling based on other of your posts/answers, you know who I'm mostly thinking about) will continue into 2024 and i just don't feel like dealing with it anymore. i'm stuck in a shitty job i'm not really enjoying until at least august, f1 used to be an escape from that, but shitty people have ruined that too. and unfortunately I've been around the media enough that even if i did watch the races on mute so i wouldn't have the shitty sky commentary to annoy me even more, i would still know subconsciously what narratives were being spread and i just don't have the emotional stability to care about this motorsport atm.
fe and indycar? sure. like i cannot tell you how many times my favorite indycar driver did not capitalize on opportunities to win last year, yet this year all of the socials are uplifting and asking for predictions on how many races he will win, not betting that he retires with every most (insert accomplishment here) without a win like f1 does. i used to call those 2 my comfort series but i don't think they provide comfort so much as they're so much less toxic than f1 that i don't have to worry about my favorite drivers being straight up harassed instead of just their driving critiqued.
i'd love to follow lando, and oscar, and the entire team through both the highs and the lows as i have for many years now, but i just don't have the energy in me anymore. it's been feeling like a chore instead of a fun little hobby to watch for a while now, and i thought i would find some enjoyment out of it again at some point, but i just can't anymore. i will definitely be sticking around to read your writing though, just maybe not commentary on race weekends.
anyway this got so very long, i'm so sorry. this isn't an airport and i don't need to announce my departure, i guess i just had a lot of things building up that i needed to get out.
no need to apologise at all, I've always said my asks are open for rants or venting or just needing to let it out
I'm sorry there's not a lot I can say to what you've said because I agree with a hell of a lot of it and fully get where you're coming from
there's no point making yourself sad, upset, angry over it and while I know it'll suck to miss out on the racing since that's what you actually care about, maybe a break sounds like a good idea actually especially if you've got life things too
I'm preeeeettty good at tagging stuff so hopefully that'll help you navigate my blog at least, but since I do post a Lot on race weekends if I post writing it's always tagged "birb writes" and that's a featured tag for easy access - but it's so sweet that you'd stick around for my writing, it means a lot <3

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME🏎️💨
creds to @avida-heidia-5 for making this
thanks to @vinvantae for tagging me !!
tagging: most of my moots have already been tagged so anyone who wants to do it !!
1. who or what got you into f1?
legitimately, i kept seeing this charles leclerc imagine pop up in my “for you” thing and so i read it and then proceeded to look charles leclerc up and then i ended up hyper-fixating on it and now it’s almost my entire personality
2. who was the very first f1 driver you supported? do you support them now? have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
daniel ricciardo!! although charles kind of pushed me toward the direction of f1, daniel was the first driver i really got attached too (i will admit it was partially because of dts). he’s still one of my favorite drivers, him and charles are tied for first but i really want to see him do well and i will forever be so sad that i didn’t get into formula 1 until he was in his second year with mclaren :(
3. who’s your current favorite f1 driver?
while daniel is also my favorite driver, charles might be a little higher than him simply because i am a ferrari fan and the fact that charles drives for my favorite team gives him a little boost.
4. is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? what made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
honestly max and daniel will forever one of my favorite teammate pairings just because i feel like they’re so good together (they’re also so goofy and i love to see how max acts around him cause i think it’s so funny). i also LOVE seb and kimi just because i love the way they interact with each other😭
5. do your parents, siblings, or relatives have a favorite team and/or favorite drivers?
unfortunately i am the only one in my family that really likes f1. my older brother knows a little bit and he likes checo and lewis but he doesn’t really keep up with anything, and my mom likes charles only because i like charles💀
6. do you have any favorite races? are there any that stand out to you the most?
spa 2019, monza 2020, são paulo 2022, and singapore 2023. são paulo and singapore have a special place in my heart cause são paulo was the first f1 race i ever watched and i think it’s really cool that that was george russell’s first race win, and i really love singapore because that was the first time i’ve ever experienced ferrari winning a race and i was literally jumping around in my room freaking out when it happened.
7. do you have a favorite circuit? can be from the past or from the current calendar.
i like a couple but i’d say my favorite is probably monza. some others i really like are bahrain, suzuka, and singapore!!
8. have you ever been to an f1 race in real life? free to tell us your experience going to one of you’d like.
sadly no!! i unfortunately live in the u.s. and i feel like our gp tickets are so incredibly expensive plus i don’t live in a state close enough to any of our tracks. i have been to an indycar race however (which i know isn’t that same thing) but it was a lot of fun and i’d really recommend it if you have the chance to go cause it is a lot more affordable compared to f1!!
9. have you ever met an f1 driver in real life?
i have not, which i’m kind of happy about cause while i think it would be amazing, i am so incredibly awkward and would definitely make it uncomfortable because of how awkward i am. i have however met a couple of indycar drivers (some of those being pato o’ward and marcus armstrong) which was really cool!! i meant to tell marcus that i loved screaming meals but i got too nervous and just asked him to sign my hat🫠
10. do you have a favorite f1 car? if so, what is it?
not necessarily my favorite car but i LOVED the williams livery this year!!
11. do you have a favorite one win wonder?
monza 2020!! while i’m not a huge fan of him as much as i used to be, i really liked pierre when i first got into f1 and i just loved that he was able to get his first win at monza. i also think the atmosphere after he won was so amazing especially after what he went through with red bull the season before and i just love that he was able to prove them wrong and prove that he is capable of winning races and that he didn’t need red bull to do that !!
12. do you have any favorite quotes from the f1 world? this can be either inspirational or hilarious.
i have one for both! so i actually (literally today) just got an “enjoy the butterflies” tattoo (also now i match with lucy, which was not at all planned but i think it’s super funny🤭) and i also love kimi yelling “GLOVES! STEERING WHEEL AND GLOVES!” because i think it’s so funny and also because i just love kimi.

1. which of your fingers is your favorite? 2. what’s the tastiest berry? 3. which indycar driver would you have the easiest time being college roommates with? 4. which nascar driver would you be most willing to go spelunking (NOT innuendo) with? 5. which penske driver (indycar and nascar) would be tastiest if turned into a pastry? 6. which mclaren driver would you most trust to do your taxes? 7. which cgr driver would be most likely to sprout into a beautiful sapling if you planted him in a garden? 8. which andretti driver would you most enjoy a jazz clarinet lesson with?
wow anon these questions are insane, AND IM GONNA ANSWER ALL OF THEM!!!!!
1. either my middle one to do the 🖕double birds 🖕or my thumb 👍 because im any indycar driver ever and must give a thumbs up after my interview
2. STRAWBERRIES….🍓 best berry methinks. i love me a good strawberry they are so tasty!!! runner up would be blueberries 🫐
3. ok so im automatically crossing out most of the older ones because i feel like we’d have a hard time being good roommates. my answer is either rinus or nolan, rinus bc i think we have similar personalities and nolan bc we are close in age and we are both just little guys. we would just lay on our beds and go snork mimimimi
4. I HAD TO LOOK UP WHAT SPELUNKING MEANT….as for which nascar drivers id love to explore caves with, i’m gonna go with either tyler or cbell because they just seem like fun guys to spelunk with, and for a retired driver i’ll pick dale jr because why not?
5. NOW THIS GOT ME THINKING…. I’m gonna pick an indy and a nascar penske driver for this!!! so im automatically ruling out josef bc I think he would not taste amazing as a pastry i think he’d taste a bit too tart for my liking. will i also feel like wouldn’t taste too good as a pastry so my indy penske choice is scotty mac! for nascar penske it was a toss up between blaney and austin but im gonna give this one to austin because i think he’d taste very sweet…..but i also think blaney would taste sweet so it’s really a toss up
6. well im automatically ruling out nolan because his ass knows as much about taxes as i do me thinks….. im also ruling out pato because i don’t think he enjoys them so my obvious answer is rossi! he’s old enough to know about the ins and outs of them so sure ill let him file my non existent taxes
7. LINUS!!!!! LINUS FINAL ANSWER OF COURSE…he would be a beautiful flower in my family’s garden 💙🪻my second answer would be palou bc he is so a sunflower to me 🌻 but then in descending order it would be dixy, armstrong and then kyffin!!
8. my objective answer is kyle but realistically probably marcus for some reason….idk why tbh he just seems chill like that and I do love me some jazz 🎺🎷

Hiiiii anon this is so cute! i am first and foremost a hertwood girlie i think everyone knows that i think its obvious what more does there need to be said. i did originally get into indy via the f2 pipeline, so i am quite fond of callum and marcus as well. theo was my baby when i watched the 2023 f2 championship as it happened, and i like pato because everyone likes pato. have you seen him
there are a handful of others i have a degree of fondness towards but those are the only ones i have marked as favorites on the indycar app. i am quite fond of david tho!!! i wouldnt call him a favorite yet but he's certainly a guy i like!!!!

Will Power on what IndyCar can learn from F1, running a Cup race and brutal honesty: 12 Questions
Each week, The Athletic asks the same 12 questions to a different race car driver. Up next: Team Penske’s Will Power, the IndyCar championship points leader who heads to the season finale at Laguna Seca with a 20-point margin over Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon.
1. How do you feel about people reclining their seats on airplanes?
I have no problem with people who recline their seat on airplanes. It’s totally normal and fine.
You tipping it back as soon as you get on?
I am. As soon as we take off, yeah.
Is that for comfort or sleeping purposes?
It’s for both comfort and sleeping purposes. Every time I get on a plane now, I just sleep. Plus my back. I’ve pounded my back and broken my back — or let’s say a compression fracture a number of times and broken it once. So I definitely like my spine to be reclined.
2. How often do you get recognized at the grocery store?
I never go to the grocery store, so not very often. I have gone and been recognized. But everything’s done online now. Ever since COVID, my wife orders all the groceries online. Like, literally never goes to the grocery store.
That’s one of the only good things to come out of COVID, I guess.
Yeah, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. It’s good for people to get out. But it’s certainly a convenient thing.
3. On a scale of one to 10, how good are you at replying to text messages in a timely manner?
I try to be very quick to reply — punctual, is that what it’s called? I try to reply to everyone, always. On race weekends when you win a race or you get a pole or something, it’s difficult because I try not to look at my cell phone over a race weekend. But I always sit down and reply to everyone. Absolutely everyone. So yeah, I’m very particular about doing that.
Wow. How do you make it through a whole weekend without looking through your phone?
I do look at it, because I have to get text messages about schedules and such. But I try to never look at it in the engineering office. Just to be focused on the job at hand.
4. What is the best way to get out of a conversation with someone who won’t stop talking?
To be honest and just say, “Look, I’ve got to go and I’ve got to do this.” Just be honest. The best way is not to make up some excuse. People actually respect brutal honesty at times. Sometimes you’ve gotta be a bit tactful.
Not a lot of people have said that this year, but I can see where you’re coming from. Everybody is trying to not hurt people’s feelings. But if you’re just like, “Yeah, I gotta go, sorry …”
I’ve done that before where I’ve had a friend call me and say, “Hey, do you want to come to this race? It’s about a four-hour drive.” And I didn’t want to make up an excuse, so I said, “Look, I simply just don’t want to go. I don’t want to drive four hours. Sorry.” He’s like, “That’s cool, man.”
5. If you could pick only one form of social media to use and drop all the rest, which would it be?
Probably my personal Facebook account, because you actually have all your real friends and people you know.
So you want the small group where you get life updates and you see how your friends back home are doing?
Yeah, actual people you grew up with and you know. That would be the one if I was to delete the rest.
6. What advice would you give someone who is having a hard time getting over a mistake they’ve made?
It’s by mistakes that you actually become better at anything. Simply move on. You’ve just got to keep moving forward. You cannot dwell on mistakes. You just can’t. Learn from them and move forward quickly. The best people in the world do that. Any discipline, business, sport — that’s a key mental aspect you need to be successful.
7. This is a wild-card question where I’m mixing it up for each person. I asked your friend Jenna Fryer for some help in terms of what to ask you, and she said you absolutely love comedy and you’ll listen to it on the plane and laugh out loud on the flight because you love it so much. So who are some of your favorite comedians and what style of comedy do you like so much that it gives you that much enjoyment?
Louis CK for me is probably the best stand-up in the world. Dave Chappelle — I like all of Chappelle’s stuff, but his older stuff like his special “For What It’s Worth” is one of the best specials I’ve seen. Obviously, I watch a lot of my brother’s stuff (Damien Power is a stand-up comedian).
There’s certain YouTube channels I watch that are sort of prank comedy. I love “Just For Laughs.” They do a phenomenal job. “Just For Laughs” has so many good gags. But I love comedy. It’s the best. I think it’s what the world needs way more of these days, is laughing.
With the prank stuff, there’s a fine line between cringe and don’t like the jokes. Are they usually in on the jokes?
Well, the prank comedy I find the funniest is when the person who is pranked works out what it was and then laughs. Or it’s the shock factor. Like if you’re watching “Just For Laughs,” the shock factor of something that’s great. That’s the part I like about prank comedy. Some of the “Just For Laughs” ones are amazing. They come up with some of the best gags.
And then fart humor is also funny. I like it all.
8. If you felt someone intentionally made contact with you during a race, would you confront them, send a text or just let it go?
Intentionally? I’d probably ask them about it. Often when you get taken out, either it is not intentional or just a bad move. You never really have to pay anyone back because it always comes around at some point to everyone in some other ways. I’ve been around long enough to see that’s what happens. But definitely, depending on who it was, I’d either text or call and ask them about it.
9. What movie do you think you’ve seen the most times over the last year?
There’s not a movie that I’ve watched multiple times this year.
Are you more of a TV binge type?
Yeah, yep. I just finished “Better Call Saul” and then I started watching “The Kominsky Method.” It’s pretty funny. Good comedy. “Nathan For You” is probably the TV show I’ve watched over multiple times. It’s great. Very funny. You’ve got to watch “Nathan For You.” It’s not for everyone. It’s cringeworthy at times, but it’s funny comedy.
10. When you think about IndyCar five years from now, what are you the most optimistic about and what worries you the most?
What worries me the most would be that IndyCar doesn’t progress and move forward quickly. Because I think they have to, just based on what Formula One has done with “Drive to Survive” and their marketing plan. They’ve really, really grown massively. And I think IndyCar has that potential, but they’ve got to put the money in and they’ve got to progress.
What I’m most optimistic about is they do all that and it does grow. And they get a reality TV show and they grow the series. Because I know it’s one of the best racing products in the world as far as on-track action. So that’s what I’m optimistic about.
11. A magic genie appears and offers you the chance to go back to the beginning of your racing career and start all over. But the catch is you get to keep all of the knowledge and experience you have now. So do you go back to the past and start again, or do you stay where you are?
I’ve actually thought about that exact thing. Like imagining going back to the beginning. But then I’ve gone, “Well, it won’t take the same path. And you may end up (where) something bad could happen to you.” So you just can’t do that. It’s a very unpredictable thing.
Certainly, there’d be way more potential for success, but you could also get in some strange accident that ruins your life. You may not meet your wife. Just so many things. Life is the actual journey — all the ups and downs you have along the way. Just a part of life and learning experiences. So yeah, I think I’d just stick with it.
12. Each week, I ask a driver to give me a question for the next interview. And last week was Alex Bowman from NASCAR and he wants to know: Do you have any interest in ever running a Cup race? And if not, what is your bucket list race car aside from IndyCar?
I definitely have an interest in running a Cup race. I would love to. I love the series. I think the series is one of the most competitive series in the world, and it’s full of great drivers. So I would definitely love to do a Cup race.
Do you prefer an oval or road course?
Either, but it’d be very interesting to do an oval. But I would do either. I’d like to do one of each.
The next interview will be with somebody on the NASCAR side. Do you have a question I might be able to ask a NASCAR driver?
I think it’d be actually a similar question: Would whoever it is like to do what Jimmie Johnson has done and run an IndyCar? Or at least test a car?

Callum should have won f2 last year. It makes me so sad again. I thought I’d get it over by now but ahhh it still breaks my heart. That was his one solid shot. Mick, who i love just as much, will always get a seat anyway. Plus he already has that f3 championship. But with Callum being a runner up and not having won any of the previous lower formula championships, it’s really hard to make a case. The kids he is competing against for a seat in F1 are all so strong and impressive: pourchaire who is a priority because he is a sauber acad driver, piastri who won everything on his rookie year and is now leading f2 again as a rookie, even shwartzman is really strong and has that smp bank russian backing plus I get the feeling that rob is a ferrari favorite. Part of me wants him to move on and kill the competition in indycar. He’ll do good there. I dont want him wasting his time on the sideline hoping something comes up.
OOH hello anon sorry it's taken me a while to gather my thoughts on this
I was originally referring to how every time something looks up for Callum, F1 seems to come back in the picture. For instance in this case he has a drive in an Indycar race and it's awesome and the literal next major news in motorsports after his announcement is Alfa is calling on a reserve driver for a race weekend... and it's like the one time he's not available.
but i have thoughts on your other points so I'm putting this below a cut because I rambled a bit too much
Yeah I hear you on the f2 thing. I was convinced that as long as mick landed in the top three he would have gotten a seat, but I was never too sure about callum. I honestly don't think Callum would have gotten a seat even if he won the freaking championship. Alpha was always going to take Yuki, Ferrari would have gotten Mick in that Haas in a heartbeat and a half, and we all know why egghead is in the seat. Unless Kimi retired last year, Callum was SOL in any case. At least that's my two cents on this.
I would however argue that while pourchaire is def a priority he would need at least 1-2 years more in F2 (unless he wins next year). He's just too young and not up to pace yet in my eyes. Pourchaire just drove an F1 car for the first time last month. He's definitely not ready for a full seat right now.
Piastri is a def strong contender, but he's in the Alpine Academy and I would be more likely to put him in Alonso's seat than a Ferrari-affiliated seat.
Rob has the financial backing from Russia and I agree there was pressure from there with Ferrari. Especially since he went into this season with a SL I'm pretty sure. But it honestly doesn't seem like anyone really looked at him for the seat?
Callum might have just been more visible as the reserve driver for Alfa but throughout the year it really seemed like Vasseur was looking to Callum for the seat since Callum was originally promised like what 7 FP1s? The man's done 1 or 2. Came 17th in FP1 Portugal, even beating Mick's time iirc. He's appeared in a couple of their marketing videos, showing at least some further interest. He's got the talent, Ferrari clearly saw it before to make him ferrari test driver, alfa romeo reserve and give him a ton of fp1s in theory, so what happened now?
It seems like right now his competition for the seat are people like Hulkenberg and Bottas. I'm not a huge fan of Hulk coming back AGAIN and Bottas I understand him wanting to stay in F1 and he's damn good even if I'm not a fan of him (in a "good driver, not a bad guy, just not my cup of tea to stan" kind of way). I'd love a Gio/Callum line-up honestly but I'm not sure if Gio's done enough to keep the seat with the likes of Bottas and Hulk knocking. I'd love for alfa to have one experienced driver in Bottas or Gio who knows the car or hell even Alex (even though I'm looking at him in Williams) and Callum as a rookie.
So don't get me wrong, if Indy is where he ends up, I'm extremely proud of him and I will 100% drive to my nearest GPs (the benefit of living by IMS means romain and him would BOTH fly into the airport near me hehe) and cheer him on as hard as I can. But DAMN do I wish he could have gotten the chance he so rightly deserves.
