if you were getting your news from elsewhere besides tiktok and tumblr screenshots of unsourced twitter posts you would know that the tiktok ban bill is like 2 years old and has nothing to do with hamas-israel war, it is about concerns regarding alleged chinese data mining. it is dangerous to share posts full of misinformation that encourage people to lose faith in voting. voting is important and powerful and these accounts try to undermine it. it really isnt hard to just look up actual news sites whether something is true. and if you cant verify or if it looks fishy... you dont actually have to reblog it, you know
Occasionally pressing that little reblog button without a thought doesn't mean you don't frequently google stuff from Tumblr to check out different, and local sources btw :) Let alone not watching/reading/listening to the news!?
That said, it's always good to let someone know when they share something that's wrong or iffy etc, especially when it's about something they're not very familiar with (like us politics)
voting always matters!

Potential September Reading
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (ideally in audio)
An English Squire by Christabel R. Coleridge
A Sherlock Holmes story (and/or a screen adaptation)
C.S. Lewis nonfiction
A sensation or mystery novel
A piece of one of the Psmith stories
Some kind of nonfiction book
#monthly reading lists#books#a nicely restrained list#mostly made up of my strong september associations#of course it's psmith pseptember so i must read at least a chapter or two#(i know too well that i don't have the discipline to expect more but i would like a taste)#sherlock holmes audiobooks made great commute reading during several septembers and now it's a vital part of the season#(i'll prob only read one or two short stories rather than try for a whole volume)#i've vaguely been feeling i'm due for a hobbit reread for a few months#but now it hit me strongly that i must read it in audio#(if i can't find a good audio version i'll have to skip that item)#i read 'surprised by joy' one september while my sister was in ireland and i was missing it#and now it feels right especially because there's an oxford academia vibe that's great for back-to-school#i want to read some kind of female-written mystery#but yet to decide if i want victorian sensation novel or agatha christie#or if i'll just try a vaguely gothic christian novel#an english squire gets on the list thanks to thatscarletflycatcher and it just feels right to have that be my next obscure classic#i wanted something for back-to-school but i didn't know if i wanted a non-psmith school story or what#so i just went with nonfiction because it's about me learning new things#also several things that didn't make the list but may be read#i was very close to putting the tenant of wildfell hall on the list#but i don't want the pressure#if i do read it it needs to be something i'm not required to do#i will probably try to finish chesterton's 'varied types'#and prob read more emma m lion#and maybe pride and prejudice on audio?

Consider:
The Faithful of Númenor having clandestine "schools" of their own, their children gathering in their houses to be taught the forbidden elvish tongues, and more importantly, unexpunged history and religion (although I do feel slightly hesitant to use the latter word in relation to the Legendarium). Definitely most prominent in Andustar and later among those deported from it, often, these lessons masquerade as trade schools, so that whenever the king's soldiers are at the door, one can quickly hide the books, bring out embroidery hoops and spread cloth over the parchment.
Illicit theatre performances! Ask me about my headcanon that Númenor invented theatre one day, but the gist of it is that culturally, it's pretty important, but at some point a very stringent censorship becomes the norm, and many erstwhile classics are forbidden (not to mention any new plays with a Faithful message). Cue the practice of semi-professionnal troupes secretly performing in people's courtyards with very little in terms of scenography/costumes, but with a strong emphasis on good acting. Theatre is not considered a low occupation in Númenor, so even certain relatives of the Lords of Andunie take part in those shows.

sorry if I’m bothering you but once you posted art of Lovi and Molly’s kids and I haven’t been able to find it? If you deleted it or don’t know where it is that’s fine! I was just thinking about it last night haha
You're never a bother! It always makes me happy when you pop into my inbox
This applies only in AUs where they aren't nations, because nations have some caveats with this kind of stuff as we're all aware of.
Tumblr media
I made this ages ago, but it's still a pretty solid summary of the kids. Caterina and Sebastiano are twins, and there's about a 14 year age gap between them and Maria, the youngest. These fucklechucks came about from an RP I did with a friend in a Victorian AU where Lovino and Molly got together, and the character growth sort of spiraled out from there.
Tumblr media
At the time I also made an attempt at making a relationship chart for all of them, which is still pretty vague, but it's something of a summary. Long story short, I have way too many thoughts about this family's dynamics for a bunch of ship oc children.
Putting an old video thing I made under the cut because even if my art style has shifted a bit it still makes me laugh

with Vernestra being in the new book and seeing some people comment on like 'waiting for the other shoe to drop with her arc' (sorry if you happen to be the person who wrote that on reddit and are reading this haha, I actually really agreed with your review, that line just popped out at me), and my own frustrations with wishing they'd just invented a new character to fill her role in The Acolyte, because speculation on how we make the (kinda big) leap from book characterization to show characterization is overshadowing her character in these last few books, I started wondering like why did they choose Vernestra to be the one book character to bring forward? They had to retcon the Mirialan lifespan for it, didn't they? I know they probably wanted at least one book character to get the book readers on board with the series, but there wasn't anything that jumped out at me to explain why that figure had to be Vernestra. Then I got it.
...I bet they just wanted to use the lightwhip.
I mean first of all it is a cool, unique weapon for the series, even though they only used it in that one shot, fair enough lol. But I bet they had the idea for that shot of Qimir's scar to connect to whatever turned him to the Sith and planned the arc from there, so they had the plot first (Qimir fights his former Jedi master, leaving him with the scar that can be strategically revealed when it is time for #traumatic backstory) and slotted Vernestra into it because the lightwhip makes for a unique enough scar pattern to serve as heavy foreshadowing when it's revealed in episode 6.
But damn, I wish they had just made it like Silandra's shield and had it passed down, I would have been chill with Vernestra being Qimir's master's master, that would have made sense to me. But that's definitely where the 'they needed a character from the books to get the book nerds to watch the show' lol and maybe they already have Burryaga's (the only other character I can think of with a sufficient lifespan) ending planned (#fear). But it still does kind of suck that the ending of the book series has to be viewed through this lens of 'ok well how does this explain what happened between book Vernestra and show Vernestra...'

I was a little concerned about how hostel dorm sleeping would go but now I'm in my first one and a little voice in my head reminded me that I did this but slept more or less on several strangers (well, they weren't strangers for long) when I was out sailing and that was fine

I really, really hope I'm misreading and did not just see a post that swapped indigenous Irish people into the role of the Violent Oppressor doing Violence to an Ethnic Minority during The Troubles.
But if I did read it correctly, this is the sixth instance of hibernophobia that has crossed my dashboard in less than a week. What the fuck is this, 1875???

see, like that's why it takes so long to write IreNor, tons to work off of in the Viking Age but I have to do research, and writing the 1850's fling sends me down a hole of reading about Irish and Norwegian immigrants in the US. And writing modern day *would* be easy but I got no start it's just...
