reading a couple of meta posts about platonic and romantic relationships and just pondering. I think one of the things that makes D&D so popular and contributed to its renaissance is that D&D parties, by their nature, elicit strong platonic relationships.
like there are obviously some exceptions but generally speaking, a D&D party is made of 4-7 people and while a few of them may decide to initiate romances with each other, that still leaves a lot of relationships between the principals to stay platonic. (it's possible to have a D&D party turn into a giant polycule but that's not the only or even the most common outcome.)
in most media, whether it's specifically a genre romance or not, the focus is going to be on the main character, maybe the love interest, maybe the best friend. more minor characters tend to phase in and out of the narrative if they aren't occupying the main character's attention, and any relationships they build with other people will by necessity be out of focus. in D&D all of the party members are the main characters, and they're going to be spending lots of time with the other main characters, and any relationships they build will be center focus.

I have been asked a couple of times, whether I am doing requests right now and what kind of requests I would do, and now that the very eventful August is done, I thought I could actually redo my Requests Open post.
So, hi, I am Alex, I write a lot of fanfictions. Yes, I will do requests (and commissions). Yes, I will even do smutty ones. Even the really smutty ones. Yes, I will also do dark stuff and whump. I love whump.
The main fandom I will take requests for are:
Baldur's Gate 3
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Castlevania (Netflix) & Castlevania: Nocturne
League of Legends & Arcane
Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical
Hades
There are other fandoms I write for, but those are the ones I feel most comfortable writing for at the moment.
What I will write:
A variety of shippings (see under the cut)
Character-centric stuff about almost any character
Smut, BDSM and Kink (I might however be not comfortable with specific kinks or specific kinks just on some of the ships)
Whump + Hurt/Comfort
All sorts of lighter genre
Family Fluff
Friendship Fluff
Urban Fantasy AUs
What I definitely won't write:
No-Magic AUs
A/B/O
OCs that are not my own (with @g-vlssz Sophie being the excemption)
Any sort of reader insert (especially female reader inserts)
You will find a more detailed list in regards to fandoms, ships and so on under the cut. :)
Baldur's Gate 3
Will Write:
Pretty much any of the characters (unless they are some NPC I missed)
Any shipping combination between Karlach, Lae'zel & Shadowheart
Karlach/Wyll
Nocturne/Shadowheart
Halsin/Astarion
Alfira/Lakrissa
Dame Aylin/Isobel
Araj/Aurelia
Astarion/my own trans male Tav
(Toxic, unhealthy) Cazador/Astarion & Vellioth/Cazador
(Toxic, unhealthy) Raphael/Gortash
(Toxic, unhealthy) canon Dark Urge/Gortash
Any combination between the companions as friends
Halsin & adopted kids
Gale & Tara, as well as Gale & Yenna
Won't Write:
Anything with a Tav or Durge that is not my own (I just do not feel comfortable writing about someone else's OCs, sorry)
Any reader insert
Any shippings with Gale (the man needs therapy first lol)
Ascended Astarion
Sharran Shadowheart
God Gale
Minthara, because I never managed to recruit her
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Will Write:
Xenk/Edgin
Edgin/Zia
Any variation of the characters as platonic relationships
I will write also crossovers with BG3
Won't Write:
Edgin/Holga
Simon/Doric as a romantic shipping - Doric is canonically asexual, and I do headcanon her as aromantic as well, so I absolutely love to write them as a very intense queerplatonic relationship, but not as anything romantic
Castlevania (Netflix)
Will Write:
Any characters
(Greta)/Trevor/Sypha/Alucard (and any combination between any two of them, with the exception of Greta/Alucard)
Hector/Isaac
(Toxic or AU) Hector/Lenore
Carmilla/Laura
Striga/Morana
Morana/Cho
Dracula/Lisa (however, for them I will not write harder kink)
Will also write: Hector/Sypha/Greta & (Hector)/Isaac/Trevor
Any friendship/platonic combination between character who live in the end
Will not Write:
As said above: romantic/sexual Greta/Alucard (I headcanon Greta as aromantic bisexual and Alucard as panromantic demisexual - and in my stuff they are just not compatible in what they want from a relationship, but are queerplatonic with each other)
Cis Striga (I headcanon her as trans and I will refuse to write her as cis)
Dracula/any character who is not Lisa (however, I would write a whumpy one-sided "Isaac is crushing on Dracula" story)
Hector/Lenore as a healthy couple outside of an AU
Castlevania: Nocturne
Will Write:
Mizrak/Olrox
Erzebeth/Drolta
Edouard/Jacques
Pretty much any friendship/platonic stuff between the characters
Will not Write:
Alucard/Maria (absolutely not, that's so fucking creepy)
Richter/Maria
Admittedly so far I am also not confident enough to write Richter/Annette
League of Legends & Arcane
Will Write:
Honestly, within LoL I will write a ton of different ships - especially queer ships. So - given the amount of characters, just look at the "Won't write" and if a ship is not there, just try and ask.
I will write most of the canonical AUs of LoL (like Star Guardians and Odysse)
For the Arcane timeline I am also quite versatile when it comes to alternate timelines - from "nothing bad ever happens" AUs up to "everything goes to shit" AUs
Will not Write:
I will definitely not write anything for the characters, who are actively participating in a fascist genocide (looking at some characters in Noxus and especially Demacia)
Caitlyn/Vi (because too many fans are biphobic, and I am done with it)
Shyvana/Jarven
Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical
Will Write:
Grace/Persephone
Grace/Freddie/Persephone
Freddie/Calliope
Persephone/Calliope
Any platonic combination between any characters
Won't Write:
Grace/Apollo
Grace/Pan
Anything about Athena (I hate her)
Hades
Will Write:
Zagreus/Thanatos/Megaera
Hades/Persephone/Nyx
Archilles/Patroclus
I would love to write family and friendship fluff, too!
Won't Write:
Zagreus/Theseus
I have not yet played Hades 2, so...

I watched DnD honor among thieves yesterday, here's what I thought about it:
I'm gonna start with what I didn't like because it's a shorter list:
1. The most annoying thing for me is that I can't figure out what class Edgin is supposed to be, which is kind of a problem given he's the main character. He plays a musical instrument, which ususally points to being a bard, but bards are spellcasters. The only time he cast a spell was when he used the tablet of awakening. Based on what he actually did, I would guess he is a rogue, which would make sense given the movie's title, but he never did any of the characteristic rogue skills either. No lockpicking, no stealth, not even sneak attack. With so many references and easter eggs, you'd think they would make something that important a little more clear
2. On a similar note, druid is also a spellcasting class. The movie made it look like wildshape is their only spell, and I cannot imagine why the writers would do that when it's very clear they did their research
3. There was one moment I felt the movie really alienated viewers who don't play dnd, that was when Sofina was about to cast finger of death. Those viewers had no clue just how powerfull that spell is, the emotional impact of recognizing that spell was lost on them
Ok now on to the things I liked
1. Butch female character! I feel I could cry, butches in tv are such an endangered species
2. There is a time and place both for cgi and for pratical effects, and by jod does this movie know when and where that is
3. The spells were so recognizable! I could recognize most of them from the dnd manuals descriptions and it felt so great watching them come to life
4. Other things that have their time and place are action, comedy and drama. Most marvel movies today are unbearable to watch because they mix those three together and they undercut each other, but dndhat gives each their own space to breathe and flourish, and we end up sharing happy, sad and action-packed moments with each of the main characters, allowing the audience to connect to them and to their story
5. The easter eggs! I was prepared for some iconic monsters to show up, but the dnd animated series making a cameo?
6. The humor is very much the kind of thing that happens in a dnd session. Every player eventually comes across the situation when they have an arbitrary number of questions they can ask and they have to do their best not to waste their questions
7. There was a particular moment when Edgin was fighting the animated statue when he managed to cover it's vision but got caught in a rope. I interpret that as a masterfull dm interpretation of a failed roll not as the player failing whatever they were trying to do, but doing it sucessfully but with consequences. It's something we don't always see but a very good way of progressing the session
8. Edgin giving up on saving his wife was not the most satisfying conclusion but it was pretty well foreshadowed despite so much other things going on in the movie
9. Holga's almost death scene. I am very much sick of the "main character seems to die in the end but SIKE no they didn't" trope, but I think it was handled about as well as could be in this movie. Holga had closure with her ex husband, she was proud of dying a hero, her final breath was a song with her daughter and her daughter's dad. I expected the tablet to be used on her (like I said, it was foreshadowed that it wouldn't be used on Edgin's wife and she had the exact injury that the tablet could heal), but I honestly believed that if the movie wanted to kill her off, it would have been a really satisfying death
