~~~
1:40 PM
you sat in history, your last period class, shaking your pencil hearing it tap, tap, tap with every move. eyes trained on the clock wishing the last twenty minutes would fly by quicker, eager to get your weekend started.
“for this project, you are all going to be in partners”
everyone shot up from their bored positions at their desks, starting conversations with friends deciding who’s working with who. you look over at your best friend, grinning.
“settle down, your partners were pre-chosen. i think we need some variety in the groups we see”
the class started to groan as the teacher stated that the partner lists were posted on the board, stating specifics on the projects and that it will be due on monday. everyone started to get up from their seats to check the list on the corkboard at the front of the room. you started to write down ideas, assuming your partner would find you.
of course it’s due monday, there goes my weekend. what’s the point of your parents going out of town if-
“uhm hey, i think we’re partners”
you look up, noticing charlie walker standing at the front of your desk, looking at the floor in front of him.
“you think or you checked the list and know?” you smirk at him, giggling to yourself.
“you got me there, i saw it on the list” he states, settling in the chair beside you.
he started rambling, talking about ideas he has for the project.
“okay charlie, here's the deal” you state bluntly, “my parents aren’t home for the weekend and i really want to get this project finished as soon as possible so i can have friends over on saturday”
he was taken back at your tone, shocked at the rude nature. he figured you didn’t like him, and wanted to get it over as soon as possible so you didn’t have to be seen with him. why else were you so angry when you had always been so sweet to everyone? weren’t you two friends?
“well we can do it after school and work on it today, i’m good at history so we should finish it really soon” he says quietly, trailing off towards the end.
“perfect” you say, grabbing your phone and handing it to the boy. “give me your number and i can text you my address”
the final bell rings and the class starts to gather their things. you sit up from your spot at the desk, collecting your books to leave. “i’ll shower when i get home and you can come over after, does three work?”
“sounds good.” he doesn’t look up from the desk as he’s still writing down notes.
“see you later, char” you say, giving him a smile he doesn’t notice.
walking back to your locker, you catch yourself thinking about him and how awkward he is, finding it indearing. you were excited to work on your project with him, you had a crush on him for a while and you hadn’t had any courage to say anything to him.
you grab your things and start the trek to your car, stopping your friend to tell her about your plans for today on your way out.
“the universe is giving you signs partnering you up with charlie, maybe it’s time to tell him about your crush.” she says, shoving her shoulder into yours as she walks.
“yeah right, he’s so infatuated with kirby i would just embarrass myself if i told him i liked him.” you state rolling your eyes. “he’d laugh in my face probably”
“he’s too sweet to do all that” your friend says stopping once you reach her car, “charlie walker is probably not the type of person to be rude about letting someone down, he’d probably say thank you and talk about a movie that’s about to come out”
she unlocks her car as you laugh at her joke, trying to ease the nerves in your stomach. you wave goodbye and turn to leave, hearing your friend shout out her window “don’t do anything i wouldn’t do”
you laugh as you walk to your car, sitting in the drivers seat and starting it before heading home.
maybe she’s right, i should just say something.
~~~
you wipe the steam off of the bathroom mirror after stepping out of the shower, skin red from the burning shower you took. you start to pat your damp skin dry before you heard a knock on your door. checking the time to see it was 2:45. fuck, he’s early.
you wrap yourself with the towel tightly before you start down the steps to answer the front door.
“hey” charlie starts, face starting to get beat red after noticing you in a towel. you notice him start to fidget with his hands.
“you’re early char” you say opening the door wider and waving him in. “you can wait in my room while i get dressed, it’s upstairs next to the bathroom”
you both start to walk up the steps and you point to the right when you get to the top. “it’s on the door on the left, get comfortable and i’ll be right there”
you hear charlie hum and grip the strap on his bag before he turns to your room. you step into the bathroom and finish getting dressed, drying your skin and putting on comfortable shorts and a crop top. you head back to your room and stand in the doorway, noticing charlie with his back to the door, looking at the pictures and vinyls hung on your walls.
“you’re not going to steal anything, are you?” you tease, sitting on the middle of your bed with your bag, pulling out your history books.
“of course not” charlie says, “just looking at all your stuff”
he takes a seat across from you, where he had preset his books and notes from class. you grab your phone and turn on some music, asking if the choice was okay and a hum of approval in response.
“so, where should we start?” you ask.
~~~
you guys worked on your project for about an hour before you heard your stomach growl. you drop your pencil and look up at charlie who was scribbling away. “are you hungry, char?” you ask
he hummed no at your question and you started to get anxious at his lack of response, he normally would talk your ear off about anything and everything. “is everything okay?”
“yeah, why wouldn’t it be?”
“you’re just really quiet today, i wanted to make sure everything is alright with you.”
“i just want to finish this project so i’ll get out of your hair, i know that you don’t really want me around”
his response caught you very off guard. you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, shaking your head back and forth softly. “what are you talking about?”
he shrugged his shoulders, not looking up from his lap.
“char, look at me” he looked up at you, trying hard to keep eye contact. “why would you think that?”
“you said earlier you wanted to get the project over with so you could make other plans this weekend.”
you noticed him look back towards his lap and you were confused on what he was talking about
“i figured since you don’t like me, you wanted to get rid of me quicker”
your eyes softened, realizing you didn’t phrase your comment from earlier properly. you immediately felt bad, you never wanted him to think that you didn’t like him. you liked charlie, quite a bit actually. he was very smart, charismatic, and oh so sweet; you couldn’t believe he thought you hated him.
you scooted closer to him, setting his hand on his knee. he looked up towards you with a nervous expression.
“i don’t hate you, i’m so sorry that i made you think i did. i was just upset earlier that we were given a weekend project the same week my parents were out of town” you gave his leg a little squeeze
“oh” he replied, holding eye contact with you. “now i feel stupid”
“don’t feel stupid, it was all my fault. i’ll hang out with you all weekend just to prove to you i like you.” you paused, wanting to say something more. you took your hand off his knee and put it in your lap, looking at the ground, you took in a deep breath.
“actually char,” you start to trail off, feeling the nerves all the way down to your toes. “i really like you”
“what?” you felt the bed move, charlie shifting in his seat
“i don’t expect you to feel the same, i know you have a crush on kirby, robbie told me a while ago, i just felt like i needed to tell you before i lost the courage to”
charlie didn’t say anything, he felt so dumbfounded by your sudden release. he didn’t know what to say, he liked you to, he just never knew how to express it. he liked how kind you were to everyone and how you always loved to listen about everything he has to say.
you got up from your seat quick, anxiety crashing at his silence. “i’m so sorry, just forget i said anything. i’m going to grab a water” you state, heading towards the door
“wait” you heard him get up from the bed and head towards you, “do you mean it?”
you make eye contact, “of course i mean it, i wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true char”
he stood directly in front of you, “i like you too”
neither of you said anything after that, all that could be heard was both of your breaths and the quiet sound of radiohead coming from your phone. he looked between your eyes and your lips.
“do you want to kiss me charlie?”
“yes” he says softly
you felt his lips on yours, pecking slightly. he was so nervous, you knew you had to lead
“do you want to make out with me?”
“please” he nodded quick, looking back to your lips.
you lean forward to kiss him, hands moving up to the back of his neck. you could feel his hands on your hips, barely making contact. you slightly pull away, catching your breath.
“please touch me char”
you felt him grab your waist, pulling you back to his lips. you rake your fingers through his hair, pulling at the root slightly. he whimpered at the feeling, gripping your sides harder.
you started to walk the both of you slowly toward the bed, not breaking away from the kiss. you settled into his lap, feeling his hands glued in place.
“you can touch me anywhere” you say breathless, pulling away
“i’ve never done this before” he admits shamefully
“we can do whatever you feel comfortable with.” you reply, playing with his hair.
you felt one of charlie’s hands leave your hip, slowly heading towards your chest. he let out a breath when he felt you weren’t wearing a bra. he was gentle with his touch, as though he was scared to break you. your hand found his and pressed harder, encouraging his movements.
he started to kneed his hands, rubbing his thumb back and forth over your nipple. you let out a soft moan, pushing your lips back to his. you started to grind your hips back and forth, earning a breathy sound from his mouth. he opened his eyes to look up at you and you took the opportunity to bite the bottom of his lip, moving immediately to his neck, rubbing his cock with your hands.
“is this okay baby?”
“fuck- yes please”
you start biting and kissing the skin below his ear, moving your hands to start unbuttoning his shirt. he shrugs it off his shoulders and you start to make your way down to kneel on the floor, kissing and sucking his skin on your way. you look up at him as you fumble with his zipper, batting your eyelashes at him. he sits up slowly to help pull his pants down, taking his underwear with him. he sets his hands on either side of his legs, slightly gripping the sheets with nerves.
you take his dick in your hands, shocked at the size, before spitting on it. you rub your hands up and down earning a moan from charlie.
“fuck- please i-” he trailed off when you kissed the head, tasting salt on your lips.
“please what baby?” still stroking his cock
“i need more, i want more please”
you lick a long strip from his balls to the tip before putting him in your mouth. slowing going up and down using your hands to help with what you can’t fit. you grab charlie’s hand, moving it from his side to the top of your head. he laces his fingers in your hair, slightly pushing and pulling with your movements.
“i think i’m going to cum”
you pull off, stroking him quick with your hands, “are you going to cum in my mouth char? be a good boy and cum in my mouth for me”
he nodded, eyes shut tight as his head leaned back. “say it charlie, tell me”
he opened his eyes, locked with yours. wiping a tear from your face, so fucking pretty.
“i’m gonna cum for you like a good boy fuck-”
you went right back to work, taking him deeper and blinking the tears from your eyes. you wanted to see charlie cum so bad, you felt your hands move down inside your shorts. rubbing your clit over your panties.
“fuck, i’m cumming, please let me cum. wanna be good for you”
you moaned around his dick and felt charlie grip your hair harder. his dick started to twitch and you felt your mouth get hot, cum filling your throat and mouth. you pulled off slowly, swallowing as you went, keeping your mouth open to pump the rest of his cum on your tounge.
charlie was a rambling, moaning mess. whispering how good it felt and how good you were. he saw you give his dick one last kiss and come back up to meet him face to face.
“thank you”
you gave him a quick kiss, giggling. “you don’t have to say thank you”
he wanted to say it a hundred times over, he couldn’t believe that he just got head for the first time. “can i…” he trailed off
“can you do what char?” you sounded so innocent, like you didn’t just finish choking and gagging on his dick.
“can i do you now?”
you got close to him, kissing up his neck. “you want to eat me out baby?”
“yes, please. please let me make you feel good”
you nodded and stood up from your seat next to him, pushing your notes to the bottom half of the bed. you slipped your top off and pushed your pants down your legs, getting comfortable by your pillows. “come here char”
charlie was quick to move above you, taking your lips to his, touching anywhere his hands could move.
“i might need some help” he sighs sheepishly.
“start by moving all the way down” you say as you give him a quick kiss for encouragement. “do whatever you think is right, i’ll tell you if i don’t like it”
he nodded and moved to your neck, kissing and licking, keeping his hands roaming. you felt him reach your nipples, his hot breath close before sticking his touch out to lick one. he saw your lips open to let out a quiet gasp of air and started to suck, earning a moan in response. he moved his hand, pinching and pulling at the left while he kept his mouth at the right, then switching.
“just like that pretty boy” you said as you move your hand to play with his hair.
he was blushing at the pet name, feeling his cock getting hard against your hip. he started to move down, kissing anywhere and everywhere he could, scared you’ll change your mind. he makes it past your stomach and to your thighs, gently pulling them apart.
he lets out a subtle groan, “so pretty” he mumbles. “can i touch you?” he says rubbing his hands up and down your thighs.
“of course” you sigh, anxiously waiting for his touch
he slowly brings his hands to your pussy, collecting your wetness on his fingers and spreading it around. he finds your clit and starts to rub in small, slow circles, watching you raise your hips slightly.
“right there baby” you say closing your eyes.
he brings his mouth to your pussy, licking a long strip from your hole to your clit. “you taste so good” he says lowly, almost to himself. he continues to play with your clit and eat you out. trying different rhythms and motions based on your movements and sounds.
“char, please put a finger in. i’m so close”
charlie is quick to push in and up, finding that sweet spot. you grab his hair, pulling at the root.
“fuck yes, right there”
he can’t help it, all the mumbling and moaning makes him start to grind into the bed, intoxicated by you. he can feel his cock, hard and throbbing against your silk green sheats.
he slowly slides in a second finger, curling them upwards, taking your clit between his lips and sucking softly.
“i’m gonna cum” you felt your body start to feel fuzzy, stomach pulling at the feeling. “fuck charlie, i’m cumming”
you felt yourself tighten against his fingers, grinding down on his tongue, which was eager to lap up your release. you heard him whimper, seeing his hips stutter against the bed.
he pulls his head up from your pussy, making sure to not look at you in the face. “i’m so sorry”
you look at him confused, leaning forward to see the wet spot on your sheets. you smirk at him, grabbing his hand and licking your juices off his fingers.
“don’t be sorry, this was amazing,” you lean forward to kiss him “and knowing you came from eating me out is kinda hot”
you giggle as you lean back, still catching your breath. charlie moves beside you softly rubbing your hand. “so what do we do now?”
you look up at him, “well” you start lacing your fingers with his “for now, we lay here until we fall asleep. then tomorrow morning we’ll wake up and shower and maybe finish where we left off”
charlie grins from ear to ear, “oh yeah?”
“i mean, if that’s alright with you” you mumble
“being with you is alright for me” he says, kissing your forehead.
Headcanons: Katsuki Bakugou x GN!Anemic!Reader
1. Worry Masked by Irritation: Bakugou would constantly mask his concern for your condition by pretending to be annoyed. He’d grumble about you being “too weak” but would secretly go above and beyond to ensure you’re healthy.
2. Diet Control Freak: He’d take control of your meals, researching iron-rich foods and sneaking them into your diet. If you tried to resist, he’d shove a plate at you with a snarky remark like, “Eat this before I lose it.”
3. Hyper Awareness: Bakugou would become hyper-aware of your signs of fatigue or dizziness. If you so much as swayed while standing, he’d immediately drag you to sit down.
4. Loud Protector: If anyone dared to tease or question you about your condition, he’d explode (figuratively and maybe literally). “You got something to say?! Say it to me!”
5. Gentle in Private: Though Bakugou is explosive in public, in private, he’d show softer affection. He’d tuck blankets around you, carry you to bed if you overexerted yourself, and grumble softly, “Don’t push yourself, idiot.”
6. Hates Seeing You Weak: Seeing you too tired to get up genuinely unnerves him. He’d pace, bark orders, and eventually sit by your side, silently holding your hand.
7. Acts of Service: Bakugou would do small things like fetching water, helping you stand, or taking on your chores. Of course, he’d act like its no big deal. “You’re lucky I’m not a total asshole, huh?”
8. Research Master: He’d secretly learn about anemia from every available resource and even consult Recovery Girl or doctors. He wouldn’t tell you about it, though; he’d just start doing things that showed he knew what he was talking about.
9. Training Adjustment: He’d modify training sessions for you, subtly encouraging you to take breaks without making you feel weak. He might even offer to spar lightly to “keep you on your toes.”
10. Blunt Reassurance: If you ever felt self-conscious about your condition, Bakugou would bluntly shut you down. “You’re not weak. You’re mine, and that’s all that matters.”
Rest is for the Weak (But Not for You)
The morning started like any other. The dorms buzzed with activity as Class 1-A prepared for the day ahead. You had been one of the first to wake, though not because you were particularly eager. A familiar heaviness sat on your chest, and your limbs felt as though they were weighed down by lead.
It was nothing new. This was your normal.
“Y/N, you doing okay?” Mina’s cheerful voice rang out as she caught sight of you rubbing your temples. “You look kinda pale.”
You gave her a small smile, brushing it off. “I’m fine. Just a bit tired.”
“You sure? I can grab you something from the cafeteria real quick if you need it!”
“Thanks, Mina, but I’m good,” you said firmly, not wanting to draw any more attention to yourself.
She hesitated but eventually nodded, skipping off to join the others. As you gathered your things and headed toward the training grounds, you could feel the weight of someone’s gaze on you.
Turning your head, you locked eyes with Bakugou.
He didn’t say anything, but his narrowed eyes and furrowed brow made it clear he’d heard the exchange. You pretended not to notice and hurried to catch up with the others, hoping he wouldn’t press the issue.
_________________________________
The training session was supposed to be routine—a series of combat drills designed to test reflexes and stamina. You had been paired with Midoriya for a sparring match, something that usually wouldn’t faze you.
But today, every movement felt sluggish. Your punches lacked their usual strength, and your dodges were just a fraction too slow. Midoriya, ever the observant one, noticed almost immediately.
“Y/N, are you sure you’re feeling okay?” he asked, concern etched into his face as he blocked one of your weak punches.
“I’m fine,” you insisted, dodging to the side as he retaliated.
But the dizziness was getting worse. Your vision blurred at the edges, and the sound of your own heartbeat roared in your ears.
“Y/N—”
“Stop holding back!” you snapped, cutting him off.
Midoriya flinched but complied, though his hits were clearly pulled. You hated it—hated the pity in his eyes, the way he seemed afraid to fight you properly. You wanted to prove you could keep up, that you weren’t a liability.
And then your knees buckled.
_________________________________
“Oi! What the hell are you doing, Deku?!”
Bakugou’s voice rang out across the gym, loud enough to make everyone pause. You barely registered the sound of his boots stomping across the floor before he was standing between you and Midoriya, his crimson eyes blazing.
“I-It wasn’t his fault—” you started, but Bakugou cut you off with a sharp glare.
“Shut it, dumbass,” he growled before turning back to Midoriya. “What the hell were you thinking, letting them push themselves like that?”
Midoriya opened his mouth to respond but quickly decided against it, his expression shifting to one of resignation.
“And you,” Bakugou snarled, rounding on you. “What the hell were you thinking? You could’ve hurt yourself!”
“I’m fine!” you snapped, trying to push past him.
But Bakugou wasn’t having it. He grabbed your arm—not hard enough to hurt, but firm enough to stop you in your tracks.
“You’re not fine,” he said through gritted teeth. “You’re done. Sit down before you pass out.”
_________________________________
Bakugou practically dragged you to the edge of the gym, ignoring your protests as he deposited you on a bench. The other students watched from a distance, their whispered conversations filling the air.
“Bakugou, you’re overreacting,” you muttered, crossing your arms as he crouched in front of you.
“Overreacting, my ass,” he shot back, his tone sharp. “You’re pale as shit, and you can’t even stand up straight. Don’t lie to me, Y/N.”
You glared at him, but the dizziness made it hard to keep your head up. Bakugou noticed immediately and let out an irritated sigh.
“Tch. Stay here,” he ordered before stomping off.
When he returned a few minutes later, he was carrying a water bottle and a protein bar. He shoved them at you without a word, his scowl deepening when you hesitated.
“Eat. Drink. Now,” he barked.
“Bakugou, I don’t need—”
“Don’t argue with me, dumbass!” he snapped, his voice louder than necessary. “Just do it!”
You flinched but complied, taking small sips of water and nibbling on the protein bar.
________________________________
When the session ended, Bakugou didn’t give you a choice about walking back to the dorms together. He hovered close, his sharp eyes scanning you for any signs of weakness.
“You didn’t have to walk me back,” you muttered, feeling a mix of gratitude and embarrassment.
“Shut up. You’re lucky I didn’t carry your ass,” he shot back.
The two of you walked in silence for a while, the tension between you thick enough to cut with a knife. But as you reached the dorms, Bakugou’s voice softened.
“You need to take care of yourself, Y/N,” he said, his tone uncharacteristically gentle.
You glanced at him, surprised by the shift in his demeanor. “I do take care of myself.”
“Bullshit,” he muttered. “If you did, I wouldn’t have to babysit you all the damn time.”
You opened your mouth to argue, but the exhaustion caught up with you, and you leaned against the wall for support.
Bakugou was at your side in an instant, his hand on your arm as he steadied you.
“See? This is exactly what I’m talking about,” he grumbled. “You’re too damn stubborn for your own good.”
_________________________________
Once inside your room, Bakugou made himself at home, pulling a chair up beside your bed as you sat down.
“You’re not staying,” you said, giving him a tired look.
“Like hell I’m not,” he retorted, crossing his arms. “Someone’s gotta make sure you don’t do something stupid.”
You sighed, leaning back against the pillows. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re an idiot,” he shot back, though there was no real heat behind his words.
The two of you sat in silence for a while, the tension gradually fading as the weight of the day settled over you. Bakugou’s presence, as much as you hated to admit it, was comforting.
_________________________________
The silence in your dorm room was a strange thing. Bakugou wasn’t one to enjoy stillness, yet here he was, sitting in your chair like he belonged there, arms crossed as he glared at the wall. The occasional sound of his foot tapping against the floor was the only thing breaking the quiet.
“I don’t need a babysitter,” you said finally, unable to take the tension anymore.
“Too bad,” he replied curtly.
You sighed, running a hand through your hair. “You’re seriously overreacting. I just got a little dizzy.”
He turned his sharp gaze on you, the intensity in his crimson eyes making you freeze. “A little dizzy? You couldn’t even finish training without almost eating shit in front of everyone.”
“Thanks for the reminder,” you muttered, looking away.
“I’m not saying it to piss you off, dumbass,” he snapped, leaning forward slightly. “I’m saying it because you’re being reckless.”
You stared at him, surprised by the raw frustration in his voice. Katsuki Bakugou was never one to sugarcoat his words, but there was something different about the way he spoke to you now—like he was genuinely afraid for you.
“I just don’t want to hold anyone back,” you admitted quietly, your voice barely above a whisper.
Bakugou’s expression softened for a moment, though his scowl quickly returned. “You’re not holding anyone back,” he said firmly. “You think I give a crap if you can’t keep up sometimes? You’re not weak, Y/N.”
The words caught you off guard. You’d always thought Bakugou saw weakness as unforgivable, that he’d look down on anyone who couldn’t match his relentless energy. Hearing him say otherwise left you speechless.
“Tch. Don’t look at me like that,” he grumbled, his cheeks tinged with the faintest hint of pink. “I’m just telling the truth. Now shut up and rest.”
_________________________________
Despite Bakugou’s insistence that you stay in bed, word of your condition had spread among your classmates, and it wasn’t long before a few of them came knocking.
“Y/N! Are you okay?” Mina burst into the room, her usual enthusiasm dampened by concern. She carried a small bag of snacks, which she set on your bedside table with a flourish.
“I’m fine, really,” you said, offering her a reassuring smile.
“Yeah, they’re fine,” Bakugou interjected from his seat, his voice dripping with irritation. “Now get out.”
“Bakugou, be nice!” Kirishima appeared behind Mina, giving his friend a pointed look before turning to you. “We just wanted to check on you, Y/N. You scared us a little back there.”
“I didn’t mean to,” you said, guilt creeping into your tone. “I just… overdid it.”
“You think?” Bakugou muttered under his breath.
Kirishima chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. “Well, we’re glad you’re okay. Just take it easy, all right? And don’t let Bakugou boss you around too much.”
“Too late for that,” you joked, earning a glare from Bakugou.
After a few more minutes of chatting, Mina and Kirishima finally left, though not without a promise to check in on you again later. As soon as the door closed, Bakugou let out an irritated huff.
“They don’t know when to leave,” he grumbled.
“They’re just worried,” you said, leaning back against the pillows. “You don’t have to be so rude.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t need a damn audience while I’m trying to take care of you,” he shot back.
You raised an eyebrow. “Trying to take care of me? Is that what this is?”
“Shut up,” he muttered, his cheeks flushing again.
That night, long after Bakugou had begrudgingly left your room, you lay awake, staring at the ceiling. His words from earlier echoed in your mind.
“You’re not weak, Y/N.”
It was such a simple statement, yet it meant more to you than you could explain. For as long as you could remember, you’d been battling the fear that your anemia made you a burden. You hated the idea of being someone others had to take care of.
But Bakugou didn’t see you that way.
You weren’t sure when he’d started paying such close attention to you, but his protectiveness was undeniable. It was infuriating at times, but it also warmed your heart in a way you couldn’t ignore.
_________________________________
When you woke the next morning, the first thing you noticed was the smell of food.
Groggily sitting up, you saw Bakugou standing by your desk, a tray of breakfast in his hands.
“What are you doing?” you asked, your voice still heavy with sleep.
“What’s it look like?” he replied, setting the tray down on your lap. “You’re eating before training today.”
You blinked at him, surprised. “You made this?”
“Don’t sound so shocked,” he grumbled, crossing his arms. “It’s just eggs and toast. Not like I cooked a five-star meal.”
You couldn’t help but smile as you picked up your fork. “Thanks, Bakugou.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he muttered, looking away. “Just don’t make me regret it.”
As you ate, you noticed how he lingered by the door, his usual impatience replaced by something softer.
“Are you gonna watch me the whole time?” you teased.
“Maybe,” he shot back.
_________________________________
Over the next few weeks, Bakugou’s concern for you became an undeniable part of your routine. He started carrying snacks and water bottles with him during training, shoving them at you whenever he thought you looked tired. He adjusted his own training schedule to keep an eye on you, even if it meant sparring with someone else so he could watch from a distance.
And while he never outright said it, his actions spoke volumes.
One day, after a particularly exhausting training session, you found yourself sitting on the edge of the gym, your legs dangling over the side as you tried to catch your breath. Bakugou appeared beside you, handing you a cold water bottle without a word.
“Thanks,” you said, unscrewing the cap and taking a sip.
“Tch. Don’t mention it,” he muttered, sitting down next to you.
The two of you sat in silence for a while, the sounds of the gym fading into the background. It was moments like this that reminded you just how much Bakugou cared, even if he’d never admit it.
“You’re not weak, you know,” he said suddenly, his voice softer than usual.
You turned to look at him, surprised by the sincerity in his tone.
“Thanks, Katsuki,” you said quietly, using his first name for the first time in weeks.
He didn’t say anything, but the faint smile that tugged at his lips was enough.
── .✦ SNEAKING INTO THE FORBIDDEN FOREST ? READ THIS GUIDE !
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/92472e1c285928ce40444a0ede2b81dd/e9b916b366d15de8-d4/s540x810/0e8cbb9af59a3984735ec9f93752bc01108f4fdf.jpg)
if you’re reading this, you’ve officially gone mad. brilliant, good for you. the forest isn’t just trees and shadows; it’s death with a personality. most of it either bites, poisons, or curses you. the rest? probably waiting to eat your corpse. still, if you’re dead set on going in there (or someone double-dog-dared you), this guide might keep you alive. maybe. don’t get your hopes up.
there’s no “one size fits all” for forest survival. what happens depends on what you find—or what finds you first. and don’t act like you’re invincible just because you know a few spells. the forbidden forest doesn’t care. so read this, prepare smart, and try not to die.
DAYTIME PREP: don’t wait until the last minute, silly
this isn’t some “grab your wand and vibes” situation. the forest is a predator playground. get your life together now. here’s how.
🧳 WHAT TO BRING !
1. your wand:
• i shouldn’t have to say this, but you do need it.
• make sure it’s polished, properly tuned (ollivanders will hex me for saying this, but a quick rub with moondew helps), and capable of these spells:
• lumos: obviously. but practice dimming it (lumos minima) so you’re not a walking lighthouse.
• nox: don’t forget to turn it off.
• protego: your shield charm will save your life, but only if you’re fast.
• stupefy: stunning. aim well; miss once, and you’re done.
• incendio: it’s fire. creatures hate fire. you should love fire.
• episkey: minor healing charm. it won’t regrow your arm, but it’ll stop the bleeding.
• silencio: for you, your mates, or something noisy trying to give away your location.
if you need a wand:
• nick one. i don’t care where. no wand, no chance. but if you’re desperate, try borrowing one from a younger kid—first years are easy to bribe with chocolate frogs.
2. an invisibility solution:
• option 1: cloak. potter has one. nick it if you can.
• option 2: disillusionment charm. harder than it looks. practice near the lake; the squid won’t judge you.
• option 3: don’t get seen. dark robes, quick feet, and shadows are your best mates.
3. snacks (for creatures, not you):
• honeydukes chocolate: nifflers and centaurs like it. snag it from honeydukes.
• raw meat: thestrals are carnivores. ask the kitchen elves—they’ll think it’s for your owl.
• woodlice or shiny things: bowtruckles will pick bark over your eyeballs if you bribe them.
• coins or fake jewels: nifflers don’t care if it’s real, as long as it’s shiny.
4. healing gear:
• dittany: nothing heals like this. sneak into greenhouse three during herbology class. sprout keeps the best batch behind the fanged geraniums.
• murtlap essence: for bites and burns. ask hagrid; he always has some.
• a bezoar: if you’re worried about poison, snag one from snape’s potions cupboard. pray he doesn’t catch you, or the bezoar won’t be your only problem.
5. clothes:
• quiet boots. no squeaky soles.
• dark robes that don’t glitter (you’re not at the yule ball).
• gloves. trust me, some plants bite.
6. extras for safety:
• a rope: in case of quicksand or to climb trees. steal from hagrid’s shed.
• lantern or enchanted candles: lumos is great, but a backup light won’t hurt.
• a map of the forest (if you can find one): rumor says the centaurs have some, but good luck convincing them to share.
ESCAPING HOGWARTS: don’t get caught before you even start
hogwarts is a bloody maze, and you will run into someone if you’re not careful. professors and filch have schedules, and if you don’t know them, you’re done for.
🧙♀️ WHERE THE PROFESSORS ROAM :
1. mcgonagall:
• loves the first-floor hallways after dinner. stick to the west wing if you’re moving early.
2. snape:
• lives in the dungeons and stalks them like a greasy bat. avoid the lower levels entirely. if you must go down there, hug the shadows near the potion shelves.
3. filch & mrs. norris:
• unpredictable. loves the staircases, especially the third-floor landing.
🗺️ SECRET PASSAGEWAYS TO USE
1. humpbacked witch statue (third floor):
• tap the statue with your wand and say, “dissendium.” it’ll drop you into a tunnel straight to honeydukes cellar. brilliant for sneaking into the forest via hogsmeade.
2. mirror near the library (fourth floor):
• move the frame. the passage pops out behind hagrid’s hut.
3. tapestry of barnabas the barmy (seventh floor):
• leads to a staircase near the great hall exit.
4. kitchen corridor:
• tickle the pear on the painting of the fruit bowl. crawl through.
THE FOREST: how to survive
it’s not just trees. the forest is alive with creatures—some lovely, some terrifying.
⚠️ THE ZONES
• the thestral glade: eerie but quiet. carnivores, but they won’t bother you if you’re chill.
• acromantula territory: webbed trees = run.
• unicorn pools: shimmering water, pure vibes, very rare.
• centaur trails: hoofprints mark them. don’t stray; they’re territorial.
• dark caves: deep, damp, and cursed. avoid unless you want to meet something worse than spiders.
🕷️ THE CREATURES
1. acromantulas:
• danger: lethal.
• massive spiders with a taste for meat.
• what to do: back away slowly. don’t scream, and don’t run. use incendio if they’re too close.
2. thestrals:
• danger: chill, if respected.
• skeletal horses. they’re carnivorous, but they won’t eat you unless provoked.
• what to do: offer raw meat. they’ll vibe with you if you’re polite.
3. hippogriffs:
• danger: depends on your manners.
• proud and powerful.
• what to do: bow. wait for them to bow back. don’t get cheeky.
4. boggarts:
• danger: emotional damage.
• takes the form of your worst fear.
• what to do: riddikulus. laugh, even if you’re dying inside.
5. unicorns:
• danger: none.
• pure and shy.
• what to do: stay soft. let them approach you.
6. werewolves (during the full moon):
• danger: instant death.
• feral and fast.
• what to do: climb a tree and pray.
7. centaurs:
• danger: medium.
• intelligent but territorial.
• what to do: no sudden movements. speak respectfully.
8. red caps:
• danger: sneaky.
• little goblin-like creatures that thrive in blood-soaked areas.
• what to do: light scares them. use lumos maxima.
9. hinkypunks:
• danger: misleading. lure travelers with lanterns into danger, though will rarely be sighted around here.
• what to do: lumos maxima breaks their hold.
10. grindylows:
• danger: moderate. water-dwellers with grabby fingers.
• what to do: stay out of the water. expelliarmus disarms their grip.
11. erkling:
• danger: high. goblin-like with mesmerizing laughter.
• what to do: cotton in ears, stupefy.
SNEAKING BACK IN
1. timing:
• be back by 4 a.m. professors wake early, and you don’t want to meet mcgonagall in a corridor.
2. clean up:
• mud, twigs, or spider guts? get rid of it before someone sees.
3. cover story:
• “couldn’t sleep. went to the library.”
• or, “peeves pulled into one of his pranks. you know how he is.”
final thought: you’re either brave or stupid, but at least you’re prepared. good luck. or not. the forest doesn’t care.
“Backseat Lover”
pt 1 | pt 2 | pt 3 | pt 4
tsukishima x f!reader, nsfw, mdni
you and tsukishima have hated each other since the minute you moved into the house across the street from his. but when his car breaks down on the ride home, and you're stuck with him for the night, things are bound to happen
wc: 5 k
tw: enemies to lovers, car fucking, grinding, semi-public sex, unprotected, creampie, biting, marking, pet names (pipsqueak, shortie, baby), tsukki & reader are lowkey both tsunderes so prepare for smack talk
"sup pipsqueak-" tsukishima whispered in your ear as you opened your locker. you snapped your head around to look at him, yamaguchi snickering close behind him. you narrowed your eyes and rolled them.
"you do realize that it's pretty narcissistic to call anyone that's a centimeter shorter than you a pipsqueak, right beanpole?”
he chuckled a bit and leaned in closer. "pipsqueak" he whispered once more.
you grabbed your books from your locker, swinging and hitting him in the chest with it before turning around. "shut up kei~" you yelled over your shoulder as you walked away.
his eyes went wide, his back hitting the locker door he was pushed against. yamaguchi was bent over laughing at your actions as tsukishima simply stared at your back as you left, his breath catching. he didn't think you could hit that hard. "so the pipsqueak is still feisty…”
“i like feisty…” he whispered under his breath.
you and tsukishima had been like this ever since you moved into the house across the street from his in middle school. it was your final year in high school, and yet your dynamic had still never changed. you don't think you'll ever understand why he acted this way, picking on you nonstop, but you weren't someone who took that treatment. getting multiple classes with him and his friends this year definitely didn't help though, it only made you two have to see each other even more often.
he pushed himself off the locker and ran after you. ”hey, pipsqueak. you know i got my driver's license right?" he said smugly as he walked up to you.
you glanced in his direction with your eyebrow raised. "oh really? and that matters to me because…?”
"i don't know, pipsqueak, maybe because now you don't have to walk all the way home from school anymore? no wonder you’re still in shape, you have to cover a lot of ground.” he smirked at you.
you stared at him in silence for a bit, before sighing and looking away “...okay fine. whatever.”
"you actually want a ride?" tsukki’s smirk grew, “aweee, are you finally letting go of your pride and ego, pipsqueak?" he poked your cheeks, chuckling at you.
you rolled my eyes at him. "no, it's just probably going to be easier than walking home… i wanna give my legs a break.”
“awe, lazy little pipsqueak-“ he leaned down and spoke at you with a baby voice, before smirking and standing back up, looming over you. "but if you are thinking you're going to be sitting in the front, you’re wrong. the front seats are for big kids, and i don’t want to hear your smart mouth." he smirked at you.
you stared at him with furrowed brows, obviously upset and growing more annoyed as the conversation progressed. "are you serious? i'm already going to have to wait until after you finish volleyball practice, i think i deserve front seat rights.”
"nah, i'm the one doing you the favor. back seat or walk, pipsqueak~”
“…ugh fine! whatever. let's just… get to class and... figure this out later.” you mumbled under your breath, turning your head.
"hehe, shortie’s finally becoming submissive, as she should be. i knew it’d happen one day." he smirked at you and ruffled your hair as you entered the classroom. rolling your eyes, you sat down at your desk, looking away from him.
—————————
you sat through the final two classes of the day, collecting your things and heading to the library. you wanted to stay as far away from him for as long as you possibly could, but when the hour passed and the library closed, you were required to go to the gym and watch tsukishima's volleyball practice.
you knew he played, seeing him occasionally play with his brother or friends in the neighborhood, but you had never actually seen him in action. he looked…. hot.
the sweat was dripping off his body, muscles flexing and panting hard as he practiced. his t-shirt was tight, sticking to his skin, and you could practically count his abs from where you sat. you had never noticed his physique, and while he was still just about as skinny as he was when you first met him, he had definitely buffed up over the years. you kept having to look down at your phone to act like you weren't staring at him, but it was definitely obvious to the boys in the gym- especially tsukishima.
he could feel your eyes, watching every move he’d make, every play he did, every dive he made. after practice ended for the night, he turned and looked at you for a moment, smiling and winked at you as he went to the showers.
his wink made you freeze, eyes glued to his back as he walked away and out of the room. did he notice you staring?
he soon came out of the locker room after a quick shower and changing into different clothes, walking towards the parking lot with you trailing after him and his long strides. once you got to the car, he opened up the door to the back seat, snickering as you rolled your eyes and threw your bag in the back, sliding in after it. he slammed the door shut, turning to open his and sit in the front. starting the engine, he looked back at you with a smirk, "tired pipsqueak?"
you looked at him with a dead stare and shook your head.
"no." you said, putting your headphones on as he backed the car out of its parking spot.
you sat in silence for a few minutes, and he couldn't stop himself from chuckling at the way you were acting. he could hear you muttering the words to the song you were listening to under your breath. "you know i can still hear you, right pipsqueak?” he spoke up louder, smiling at you through the rearview mirror.
you were staring out of the window, trying your best to ignore him as he drove out of the parking lot and got on the road that led to your side of town. it was late, and you were too tired and annoyed to deal with his teasing or even bother to give any back anymore. The car became silent once he realized you weren't going to interact with him, and he decided to just stare forward at the road he was driving on while you watched the dark scenery passing as you moved through the mountainside on your way home.
suddenly, the car jolted, making you lurch forward in your seat and hit the back of his as the car abruptly came to a stop.
“k-kei? what just happened?”
"hm?" his eyebrows were furrowed as he looked at you through the rearview mirror, cursing under his breath. "damn this car is old. it must be the alternator- pipsqueak, can you come and check with me?” he yelled over his shoulder as he got out of the car and headed towards the front.
your eyes were blown wide as you followed him out of the car, circling to open the hood. when tsukishima opened it, smoke began to come out.
"yeah, i think the car's dead... here let me call-“ when you looked down to turn your phone on, you noticed it wasn't turning on whenever you’d hit the on button. the battery had run out- your phone was dead.
"uh oh…"
he just sighed, closing the hood again with an obviously frustrated slam. that car was ancient, a hand-me-down from his older brother when he got a new one. he should've known this would happen sooner than later.
"well, shit. we’re gonna have to wait until someone passes by on this road to help, or walk to the house. you want me to carry you on my back?”
your eyes blew wide at his suggestion, not expecting him to volunteer to carry you like that. “i-let’s just wait for someone to come by… another car has to drive past at some point tonight, right?” you sat back down in the backseat as tsukishima stood with his back pressed against the side of the car. you were stuck.
"damn, why did this have to happen to us?” you buried your face in your hands.
his foot was tapping against the road from the state of stress that was shared between the two of you. you already looked so tired and upset, and it made him feel more agitated. "relax pipsqueak, i'm sure someone will pass by… we just have to be patient.” he sank to his knees and sat against the car, letting out a long sigh.
you groaned, flinging your head back against the seat to look out the sunroof. “ughhhh.”
"our luck, nobody's going to pass by until tomorrow morning. let's face it, nobody drives around this part of town this late at night. we're stuck kei.”
he looked up towards you, and then stared out into the road that stood ahead. you were probably right. "maybe we should just sleep then. i have a blanket in the trunk, it gets cold around this part of town at night so we’ll probably need it…”
“you can sleep on my lap if you want" he smirked up at you in addition to his side comment, taking you by surprise from his forwardness.
your face started burning bright red. ”y-yeah, i guess you're right.” you looked at the front of the car, before turning to look back at him as he stood up again. “i’ll probably have to do that though, you're so tall that i don't think the front seat will be very comfortable…”
tsukishima chuckled as he went to open the trunk and picked up a small blanket. he walked back towards you and handed you the blanket, smirking again. “you’ll have to be the little spoon today, shortie.”
he picked you up and placed you against himself, his chest pressing into your back and the small blanket laid on top of your waists. the feeling was awkward, and you lay there in silence as you stared at the back of the front seat. you rotated your head slightly to look back at him, whispering, ”h-hey kei? can i ask you a question?”
he looked down at you, and his hand began to play with the ends of your hair. "sure, pipsqueak. you can ask me anything." he murmured in a grumbly voice. when his hands started touching your hair, you froze, suddenly unable to think.
"why are you so mean to me, and then act like… this, sometimes? it… it's confusing..”
he stared at you, implying that this was not a question he was prepared for. he kept playing with your hair as he stayed silent, thinking. the silence was definitely awkward, and he could see how uncomfortable you were becoming. he decided to be honest with you, not wanting to lie to you anymore.
"i don't really know. your voice, your face, your personality, everything about you has always been just so annoying, but i think i’ve slowly begun liking you, i guess? i don't know if that makes sense.”
you slowly shifted your body weight to the other side, turning over to look into his eyes. you were face to face, close enough that you could feel his breath ghosting your nose as you looked up. "w-wait... what? you... you... like me?”
you were so close that he could smell the leftover scent of your strawberry shampoo in your hair, making his heart beat faster and have to hold back a moan. he looked into your eyes, your facial expression looking so cute for once. "i think i do pipsqueak."
he looked scared of his own words, that his feelings might ruin the relationship you shared. years of holding the idea of mutual hate and irritation, suddenly turning into love confessions in a cramped car seat. you stared at each other in silence for a minute, unsure of what to do, before tsukishima shifted and began to lean his head down and forward towards yours.
he leaned in closer and closer to you, and you could feel his warm breath right next to your lips. "pipsqueak~" he whispered, just before your lips met.
his lips were soft, and he kissed you kindly as his hand snaked around to hold the back of your head closer to him. he was being gentle with you for what felt like the first time, his mouth almost teasing yours from how light he was being. it took your breath away- you would've never thought you’d be doing this with him. when the kiss finally broke, you sat there, panting and staring into his eyes. he was still blushing, and just looking at you made his body tremble.
"that was... uh…” he looked at you with his eyes darting around in uncertainty. he just kissed you, and neither of you could believe what just happened. “uhhm… pipsqueak? can i kiss you again?”
you were shaking, your breaths coming out short and heavy. you definitely didn't expect that. "y-yes kei" you whispered. he leaned closer to kiss you once again, wrapping his arms around you so he could hold you even more closely.
"god i want you, pipsqueak.” he whispered in your ear while moving to kiss your cheek. you whimpered at his words, eyes squeezing shut. it made you blush- you weren't expecting him to say that.
he suddenly sat up, pulling you up onto his lap as he began to kiss you again, more passionately. faster. harder.
after the first two kisses, he definitely wanted more. he wanted you to be his, and only his. ”i think i might love you, pipsqueak.” he murmured under his breath. your breath caught at his words. love? kei tsukishima loved you? a moan left your throat as he continued to kiss you, your mind and thoughts blurred by all of this.
you both didn't want your lips to stop touching, feeling like you could finally be happy for once by just kissing each other. your lips were his heaven. he began feeling your body and running his hands through your hair as he started to kiss and nibble you on the neck. "baby, i want you so bad~" he whispered in your ear.
a long whine escaped your mouth as you felt his teeth tug at the skin on your neck, his hands beginning to trail under the back of your shirt. “w-w-want you too kei" you breathed out.
he let out a small exhale at your words, smirking to himself. his hand began to explore your body more, feeling the curves and bumps of your soft, sexy skin. he wanted to be with you right there, and he wanted you to be his. "you are so soft, pipsqueak-" he whispered as he kept kissing and licking at your neck.
your neck was so sensitive, more sensitive than you thought it could be. his actions were making you go crazy, and his hands touching you at the same time as his mouth was almost too much. the noises you were making were loud and constant. your hands began to trail from his shoulders down too, trying to trace his abs through his shirt.
his lips kept moving further down your neck, leaving hickeys as he kissed your neck like a starved man. "pipsqueak-" he whispered seductively into your ear, as if the nickname was now a dirty word.
you moaned loudly when you heard him say that, your head rolling back, exposing your neck even further. his hands lowered to your ass, gripping it and lifting you slightly to pull you closer to him. your chests were now touching, and you could practically feel all of him. your legs were on either side of his, pressed against each other so close you could feel the other’s breaths and small shivers. you could feel his body heat as you became closer and closer to him; your hips, your waist, your legs, all pushed against his.
he leaned in closer to kiss your neck, trailing his tongue from your ear along your jaw, tickling your throat. he could finally feel you, everything. you were one. his hands slowly tightened around to your hips, grabbing them and starting to pull them back and forth, aiding you in grinding atop him. the feeling made you whine even louder.
“p-pipsqueak..! o-oh my god..." his jaw dropped and his cheeks turned bright red when he began to feel your movements. his heart was racing as he tried to keep himself from making noises, but he couldn't help it. he was surprised that you continued grinding on him, but then again, he wanted this too- he wanted you. his body was becoming sensitive, reacting to your touches and movements. he continued to kiss your neck, slowly moving his tongue up the open skin as he felt your warm friction.
it felt so good, you felt closer to him than you could have imagined you’d ever be. your uniform skirt didn't leave much fabric between the two of you, just his pants and your small panties rubbing against him. "k-kei...aH" your voice caught when you felt his arousal poking you, at the same time as him biting your collarbone.
"p-pipsqueak, i have to..." he couldn't finish that sentence, he was becoming too sensitive to keep his cool. his hands were shaking, as he struggled to take off your skirt. his fingers found the buttons, quickly removing them and throwing your skirt into the seat next to you. he ran his hands under your shirt, warm fingers brushing against your skin as he began pulling your shirt and bra up and over your head at once. the air was cold, and your breathing was heavy as you sat atop him in only your panties.
"k-kei... please…”
it was hot now, and he was still wearing both his shirt and pants, the fabric now rubbing against your bare skin. you began to touch all over his body eagerly searching for more contact. you were so close to each other, your body on his, your legs wrapped around his waist, and he began to let his hands wander around your soft, smooth skin.
"baby... i want you so bad… i can't wait anymore.” he whispered in your ear as he started to kiss your body all over, his lips finding every inch of your skin as his fingers started to explore as well. he was sucking hard against whatever skin he could reach from his position, wanting to mark you, claim you.
your moans and whining became louder as his lips and hands went to places they hadn't touched before. you tugged at his uniform top, trying to quickly unbutton and take it off of him. you wanted to see him more, make it even between the two of you. he made a loud noise when you touched a sensitive spot, mumbling something about volleyball bruises, before gripping your hands and taking control. he wanted more, he needed more.
tsukishima quickly threw the rest of his shirt off and snaked his hand up from your thighs to your hips as he lifted you with one of his arms, the other reaching underneath himself to yank his pants down to his knees. placing you back down on his lap, where underwear was the only barrier that protected you from touching each other, making you whine louder and his eyes roll back once he felt your heat.
his heart started beating super fast, and he was sweating lightly in his anticipation. he could feel you, your thighs, your hips, your breath, everything. when you shifted your weight to lean in and kiss him again, it pressed his clothed cock against the wet spot in your panties, making him groan loud and shiver. god, you were his. he took off his boxers, making him more vulnerable to you. you were one, and you were more than just friends now.
he stared into your eyes as he slowly reached towards you, lifting you again, pulling your panties to the side, and lowering you down on his cock. the moan that left your mouth was deafening, and made his eyes roll back. you were lightly panting as you tried to slowly sink onto him, your eyes squeezed shut. “i should have known how long you’d be, considering how lanky you are.”
“shut up.” he grunted, bucking his hips as almost a punishment for your response, slamming balls deep into you. your mouth hung open and your head flung back, looking like you wanted to scream but couldn't. your expression turned him on even more, and he grabbed your hips, aiding them in moving on him.
you felt him slowly, gently, moving you up and down, your legs and arms wrapped around him like he was your safe place. his eyes were locked into yours, his hands holding you around him as if all he wanted was to keep you close to him, keep feeling you. your grip around his chest was practically choking him, your gummy walls squeezing and milking his cock. your breath was shaking and your legs were quivering as you started moving. “fuck! you’re so tight, baby.”
you wouldn't have believed it if you told yourself a few hours ago that you’d be doing this with tsukishima kei, fucking him in the back of a car on the side of the road, but here you were. enjoying all of it, whining and moaning at the top of your lungs for him.
”k-k-kei..." you couldn't form full sentences as your hips rocked back and forth against his.
your hearts were exploding as you moved. your body against his, it would be a sin not to enjoy it. he was feeling you all over with his large calloused hands, slowly and gently exploring you. he kept you close to him by holding your hips tight, nibbling at your neck and jaw. you were his lover now, and the world outside the car didn't exist. only the two of you, only intense pleasure.
you were mewling, it felt so good. his hands trailing your skin made goosebumps form and you shivered under his touch. "kei i-i.." a groan left your throat as you felt his cock bump your sweet spot.
hearing your moans, he couldn't keep his cool anymore. he felt like he was losing himself and that he was going completely insane from your touch. he began moaning and whispering praise into your ear, coaxing you to continue even more. "pipsqueak, please... don't stop."
you started moving quicker, bouncing up and down on his lap while your mouths were glued to each other. your stomach was beginning to feel twisted, and you couldn't help it when your whines got more constant. his body was twitching with every sensation that was made, and he had lost all his patience. he didn't want it to end, he wanted the night to go on forever.
he was sweating heavily even though it was cold inside the car. he felt crazy, insane, like he had lost every feeling of logic in his head, and it was all about you and him. his moans were becoming louder now, the sound of leather squeaking against hot skin amplified each time you moved.
"k-kei? i-i'm close" you whispered out. your legs were squeezing even tighter around his hips as you moved, almost like a warning.
he felt you, and your words made his heart stop. "baby... can i..." he looked at you, begging you for permission. "can i…” he whispered.
you nodded your head furiously, panting and looking into his eyes. ”yes... please.”
tsukishima felt like he was going to blow up, and he was begging you silently to just do it. his body was shaking so hard because of what you were doing to him. even though he was trying not to, he looked so desperate, staring into your eyes as you were riding him harder and harder. "baby, i'm all yours”
you felt him buck his hips, his cock ramming up and hitting that deep spot inside you that had you seeing stars, and that was the final thing to make you explode. you tensed up, practically screaming your whines out as your body shook around him, gripping his shoulders so hard you were sure your nails would leave indentations in the morning.
he was barely controlling himself, whimpering your name over and over again just hoping you were enjoying him as he was enjoying you. the look on your face, the way your eyes were squeezed shut, your voice mewling, your cunt squeezing and fluttering around his cock. everything about you was making him lose control. he closed his eyes and moaned loudly through gritted teeth. "ohhh my god baby… fuckkk…”
you felt him tense up, and his cock began twitching inside you as he came, a warmth spreading through your core. you looked up at him, both of you panting heavily as you leaned up to kiss him again.
the sounds of the two of you breathing mixed together, almost synchronized. he was panting heavily, but he continued to kiss and hug you like he couldn't get enough of you. when your mouths finally split, you started to lift yourself from his lap so you could sit on the seat next to him, only to feel his warm cum begin to drip out of your pussy once you began to move. you stopped, looking down, and shaking as a moan left your mouth at the feeling.
"pipsqueak, i, uhm, was that..." he looked a little bit scared, staying silent for once, waiting for your response and wanting to help you as much as possible, he didn't want anything bad to happen to you.
you nodded slowly, chuckling at his reaction. "it's you kei…” you looked back up at him, “-it’s okay, thank you.”
tsukishima stayed silent, still trying to process what happened. "thank you too, baby." he whispered to you. his face was still flushed, but he was starting to calm down. "are you okay? i didn't hurt you, did i?”
you looked into his eyes, smiling. ”i'm alright kei..." you giggled, "you've hit me with a volleyball before, many times. don’t worry about pain.” he smiled at you, he was glad you were okay. the conversation felt flat, almost nervous, but it was still sweet.
"yeah, that makes sense." he laughed gently. you shuffled off of his legs, sitting next to him in the backseat. the air between you two was awkward now, with the only sounds cutting the silence being the sounds of nature outside the car and the heavy breaths you were still making. "so what are we gonna do now?" he whispered, staring up at the night sky through the sunroof.
the stars above you were beautiful, the wind felt soft and peaceful. you looked up, watching the view above you as you tried to think about what just happened. “...don't really know to be honest…”
you took a breath and swallowed. "i mean, we could go back to acting like we hate each other, pretending this never happened…” you paused, glancing over to his face, then whispered, “...or do you want to do something else about it?”
"mmm, i don't think we can just forget about this..."
suddenly, a smirk crossed his face and he began to laugh a little under his breath.
"okay, i have to admit, the first time i met you, i thought you were gross and a pipsqueak, and i didn't expect that i would ever be in a situation like this with you. it's insane... but, i want to be with you now, i want to be your lover. can i be your lover? can i make you fall in love with me?" he asked with a soft voice.
you smiled, turning your head to look at him. "i have to be honest, i thought the same way about you. you were always cold and bitchy towards me from the start, and i didn't know why, so i had just decided to return that back towards you... and now? i don't think i can do that anymore.” your reached up, brushing some of his fallen, sweaty hair away from his brow. "i think i might like that though.”
tsukishima took your hand in his and softly smiled. he wasn't the same guy you knew, he was different now, he was vulnerable. he whispered to you. "i never want to be away from you, i want to share everything with you. i’ll be your lover. i'm yours now.”
a soft smile spread as you nodded, leaning up to press a small kiss on the tip of his nose. his whole body was filled with butterflies and he was blushing hard at your response. "pipsqueak, you are adorable." he leaned into you again, resting his head on top of yours, burying his face in your hair. "can we stay here for the rest of the night? just the two of us?" he mumbled, sighing, "don't wanna leave.”
you nodded, shuffling to be closer with him, curling your body to press with his. you grabbed at the small blanket that had long since fallen to the floor and draped it over your bare bodies cuddled next to each other. you knew that in the morning, things would be different. things would change. and you couldn't determine if that would be a good or bad thing, but at that moment, it was just you two, in your own little world of the backseat. you fell asleep with his warm arms wrapped around you, your face tucked into his chest, feeling the rise and fall of his breaths as you drifted off, not waking until the sun rose the next morning.
a/n: the fic was named after a song they play nonstop where i work & it lowkey matched the fic a lot lol, if you wanna listen to it as a prerequisite it's "back seat lover" by mayer hawthorne :)
If I Rescue You, Will You Rescue Me, Too? Part 10
The boys spend their day in Indy just having fun and getting to know each other a bit. Also what happens to Steve at the thrift shop actually happened to my husband. He and a group of friends went to a thrift store to find the wildest outfit they could put together and my husband’s outfit shouldn’t have worked, but did.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9
*
Steve pulled away from the hotel parking lot and looked over at Eddie. “You ready for the only portion of this shindig that I’m paying for?”
Eddie laughed. “I still worry about breaking your bank, Stevie.”
“I’m using my dad’s ‘emergency’ credit card for this, sunshine,” Steve replied. “And if asked, I’ll just tell him that the earthquake caused minor damage to the house.”
“Steven Alexander Harrington are you committing fraud?” Eddie asked all wide-eyed with mocking shock.
“One, how the fuck do you know my full name?” Steve asked. “And two, it’s only fraud if my father didn’t authorize my use of the card, which he did. Regardless of what the use is for, I can’t commit fraud.”
Eddie laughed. “It was on your medical leave forms. I may have had Robin peek while you were still out from dehydration and low blood sugar. Something I still need to kick your ass for by the way.”
Steve snorted. “Traitors. The both of you. And until you can catch me, sunshine, I think I’ll be fine in the ass kicking department.”
Eddie pouted.
Steve reached out and stroked his cheek. “Did anyone tell you, you have the most beautiful eyes ever?”
Eddie leaned into the touch. “Not usually. Mostly they’ve been called dirty or muddy. Though, I do recall my mother calling them chocolate buttons, but that’s more cute, than beautiful.”
Steve dared to take his eyes off the road for a brief second to smile fondly at him. He turned back to the road. “You are by far the most amazing person I have ever met. But if we’re being honest, I think I was attracted to you before the Upside Down bullshit.”
“Right back ‘atcha, big boy,” Eddie teased.
They pulled up to the first thrift store and it was closed.
“Stupid places being run by religious nut jobs,” Steve groused on their way back to the car. “Don’t these assholes realize that poor people don’t work nine to five?”
Eddie shook his head. “And what would you know about that?”
Steve looked over at him confused. “You do realize that I have a held down a minimum wage job for the last year, right?”
Eddie frowned. “But why? You have access to your dad’s credit cards. Why work if you don’t have to?”
Steve buried his hands into his jeans’ pockets and leaned up against the door of the car. “Until I turned eighteen I was given an allowance to do whatever the fuck I wanted. Usually beer and weed. But when I didn’t graduate top of my class to get into all those fancy schools, they cut me off. The credit card I have access to is for ‘emergencies only’. And paying the house bills.” He cocked his head to the side. “And for making sure I continue to look the part of their dutiful son.” He waved at his clothes.
“But I decided to say ‘fuck it’, you know,” he continued. “Since I’ve turned eighteen I don’t think they’ve stayed in that house more than a week or two at most. And that’s total, not at a time.” He kicked at the pavement scuffing his sneaker. “If they can’t be bothered to come running home when the god damn earthquake was on the national news, then I’m going to go hog wild. I’m going to have fun and give the best, bravest boy a day of fun. Because he deserves it. Because I deserve to give it to him.”
Eddie pulled Steve into a hug. “Oh, sweetheart. I’m sorry. I didn’t know. Sometimes I forget that I’m not a mind reader and can’t actually know what goes on behind closed doors.”
Steve wrapped his arms around Eddie’s waist and buried his head into his shoulder. “I just hate that even the people closest to me still apologize for me being a dick in high school or act like I haven’t changed. Like when Nancy and Robin picked me up from the hospital they were teasing me about me about something that Robin thought was misogynistic but it wasn’t. But they acted like they expected me to be. Just because of that’s how I would have been in high school.”
Eddie rubbed Steve’s back. “Maybe it’s because I’ve had time away from you since high school I can see that you’ve changed. You call me brave. But honey, I only did what I had to to save Dustin. But you? Darling, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but most people don’t literally put their bodies on the line for people that hurt them.” He leaned back so that he could see Steve’s face. He reached up and cupped his cheek. “People unconnected to them via blood ties. You and Robin could have walked away at any time. And probably should have after being tortured. But you didn’t. You stuck around. You fought against the toughest bad guy even in fantasy terms and you still stuck around. And that’s worthy of praise in my book.”
Steve let out a sigh and nodded. Eddie pressed their lips together.
“Come on,” he said, pushing Steve to the side so that he could open the door for him. “There must be thrift shop not run by poor people hating bastards.”
Steve laughed and got into the car.
Eddie hurried to the passenger side and pointed at the road. “Tally ho!”
Steve just shook his head and did as he was bid.
*
The next shop was open and while they were looking for band shirts, they also decided to see who could come up with the tackiest, most horrifically colored monstrosity of an outfit.
Eddie won. Even though Steve had picked outrageous colors, wild patterns, and a mishmash of styles when he put it all together, it looked good. Eddie laughed so hard.
“I don’t know what happened,” Steve whined.
Eddie looked around before pulling him close. “I do. You just have this perfect sense of style that even when it’s supposed to be awful, you make it look good.”
Steve huffed out a laugh. “I guess so. I wish I brought a camera to take a picture of this, so we can show them back home.”
Eddie’s eyes lit up. “I’ll be right back!” He took off like a shot running around the shop like a gremlin. He came back a few minutes later with an ancient looking Polaroid camera.
He took a couple of pictures of Steve in different poses and then had Steve do the same with him.
They paid for their purchases. Eddie having found and bought the camera at the thrift shop. What had taken the time was finding film for it.
They went out for lunch and Eddie took a picture of the two of them at the restaurant, smiling into the camera.
Eddie took Steve to his favorite record store. They wandered around and abused each of their music tastes. But they both agreed that Depeche Mode brought something new and interesting to the genre. So Steve bought “Black Celebration” on cassette for the ride home.
Eddie looked up at the guitars longingly.
“Wayne told me that he was only able to find your acoustic,” Steve said softly, “but not the Warlock after the earthquake.”
Eddie nodded. “I think it was because it got destroyed in the Upside Down, it didn’t exist in the Top Side anymore.”
Steve gave his shoulder a squeeze. “I’m sorry, Eds.”
Eddie nodded and they left soon after.
*
They palled around Indy for a bit. Taking in the sites and just giggling like school children.
They headed back to hotel to shower and change for dinner.
As they opened the door to the hotel room, Eddie said, “You don’t have some other mega star going to meet us for dinner, do you?”
Steve laughed. “Not for dinner, no.”
Eddie eyed him suspiciously. “What do you mean not for dinner? Does that mean Ozzy was the only super star or does that mean I’m meeting someone else later?”
Steve just grabbed his bag and ducked into the bathroom without saying a word.
He just took a short shower and got out quickly. He came back out to see Eddie rummaging around a large black gift bag.
“Ozzy’s team finally delivered,” Eddie said. “You have one, too.”
Steve walked up to the bag that was on the fancy side table near the door. There was a tag that said, “For Steve, the guard dog.”
He just shook his head and took it over to the bed to look through what he got. There were a couple of tour shirts and some cassettes. A signed tour poster. At the bottom of the bag were two small boxes. There was a little note attached to the largest of the two boxes.
“Every good guard dog needs cool sunglasses.” Steve opened it up and on the inside of the top of the box was some designer from England that he only vaguely recognized because his mother had gone on and on about them the last time she was home. The glasses weren’t round like Ozzy’s but they weren’t sharp like Steve’s.
They looked like the guy in the suit’s sunglasses. Carefully crafted to cover the whole eye and rest comfortably on the bridge of his nose. He put them on and holy hell. He could see clearly but through the tint of the glass. They were far superior to fancy sunglasses he bought.
Eddie whistled. “Looking good, Stevie.” He saw the other box. “What’s in that?”
Steve looked down at the smaller box in confusion. “I don’t know yet.” He opened the lid and gasped. It was a simple necklace with a single red crystal hanging from it. The crystal shimmered like a flame.
“Wow,” Eddie murmured. “You’re wearing that tonight, yes?”
Steve could only nod. Not wearing it would feel like he was insulting Ozzy’s tastes or rather his wife’s Sharon’s. But also because it was beautiful in and of itself.
“You think it’s safe for me to take a bath or no?” Eddie asked as he stood up up from the bed.
Steve looked at his watch. “I’d wait until we get back tonight. We still have eat and get into our clothes for the concert.”
Eddie nodded. He got a quick shower and was back out in minutes. They put on clothes similar to the night before, with just the dinner jacket the same.
Steve kissed Eddie sweetly on the lips and Eddie hummed happily.
“This trip just keeps getting better and better, sweetheart,” he said, resting his forehead against Steve’s.
“It isn’t over with yet,” Steve promised. “There is so much more coming. So so much more.”
Eddie sighed. “You are too good to me, baby.”
Steve kissed him again. “I’m really not. It’s the perfect level of awesome for you.”
“But too good for Dustin, right?” Eddie teased, reminding Steve of what he said at the hospital.
“Taking him to Indy for the weekend would have been too good for the butthead,” Steve deadpanned.
Eddie burst out laughing. “That’s certainly true.”
PTN SFW Headcanons: Wolverine
Hello my fellow Chiefs, I figured that I would share some of my headcanons for out favorite Feral Huntsmen, please feel free to let me know some of your own and give your opinions on them if you wish to.
That said, let's start, shall we?
Also, here is a link to the Ao3 post if you are curious: Here
1. He had no idea what a Wolverine actually was until the Chief showed him one…he then proceeded to attempt to get one as a pet only to be denied every time, though it did not stop him from trying.
2. He is allowed to leave the Bureau to hunt by the Chief as a means of not only helping add some variety to the kitchen’s stocks but as a means of preventing him from becoming too antsy as a result of being cooped up for so long.
He is of course always being monitored by a multitude of means, though he always comes back, sometimes with some rather…exotic goods, such as a Sand Worm that he had to drag on a small sled and a scorpion he found that was the size of his torso.
Kawa Kawa and Stargaze appreciated having some food from their home, everyone else was not so enthusiastic about it.
3. He attends a special class that the Chief arranged to help the younger Sinners catch up on any missing education, he is a surprisingly decent student in that he is alway attentive and quiet, though this is likely due to the Chief bribing him with extra meat and equipment for his hunts.
4. He has a habit of gnawing on his lips when he is stressed, it can get to the point that he draws blood as a result of his sharpened canines, said sharpening having occurred as a result of a mutation brought about by Mania after he became a Sinner.
It can get to the point he has thin rivulets of blood going down the sides of his mouth, all while he is oblivious to it until it is pointed out. This has resulted in him being given a mouth guard to sleep with and being a frequent visitor of Nurse Anne and Dr. Iron.
5. While he may not understand most of society's norms and standards, and has no real interest in learning about them, he does understand enough of the basics to be left alone for a little while without a supervisor being present, though it is still not advisable for such a thing to be allowed lest someone set him off on accident and wind up with a Pippy thrown at their face and a crossbow bolt somewhere sensitive.
6. He hates mistreatment of animals in any form. If he is going to kill an animal it is because he needs to eat or it was a threat he needed to put down, if neither of these are true and he sees someone hurting an animal then he will be having some impromptu target practice.
7. He supplies Garofano with pelts and hides that he tans himself for her to use in some of her clothes in exchange for her maintaining his own attire for free.
8. He is skilled with not only his crossbow, but also a normal bow and arrow as well as a hunting knife and a hatchet that he keeps with him constantly.
9. He dislikes using guns, he finds them too loud and too cumbersome to be of any real value in his hunts, and besides that they are also a bit too complicated for him to utilize at times.
10. He did not know where babies came from or how reproduction worked until he let slip that he did not know and the Chief told him to go ask Anne and Iron where they came from. They have yet to forgive her for forcing the situation on them.
11. He has become very fond of nature documentaries after seeing one playing on a tv in one of the common rooms and has since amassed a sizable collection of taped ones as well as wildlife books and such, though the Chief had to teach him how to read said books.
All of this has lead to him dreaming of one day creating his own, or at the very least starring in, a documentary about the more dangerous beasts of the Rust, something that Deren and the chief may yet choose to help him with.
12. Pippy has many times managed to get into the vents of the Bureau, and has scared many Sinners and staff alike when it begins to thrash around in the vents as it drags stolen spoils from the kitchen to its makeshift nest near Wolverine’s Cell.
Despite many attempts to prevent it from getting into the vents, nothing has worked and as such a rumor has begun to spread that Pippy may possess a Sinner Power of its own, though there is no proof to back it up.
13. He once got into a boxing match with Zoya in the rec room, though he lost, he fought with enough ferocity to impress the Wolf of Syndicate enough so that she offered him a place in the Legion, though he refused, claiming that he had no interest in working for another gang, Zoya did not take it personally and instead slapped him on the back as she applauded his guts.
14. Another boxing tale has him facing off against Corso in a spar that wound up ending with both of them knocked out and needing treatment, curiously the two seemed to hit it off in the medical bay, perhaps due to Corso and his shared love of animals.
The two have since become friends, and have given the Chief many headaches as a result of them slipping out of the Bureau to not only hunt, but also break up underground animal fighting rings and investigate claims of maltreatment of animals as well.
15. While not a cook of any real renown, he has gained a reputation as making some of the best jerky in all of Dis, enough so that many of the soldiers of the Bureau have approached him in regards to having him make some for their units, alongside of the kitchen staff requesting he teach them how to make it as well.
16. His cell looks like a hunter’s lodge, with pelts and trophies adorning it’s floor and walls, along with his bed being less an actual bed and more a small cave made of mattresses, that the Chief purchased on his behalf with funding earned from his tanning and jerky making, and blankets and pelts.
He likewise has a small projector with a sizable tower of nature documentaries resting beside it, next to an equally large tower of nature books, and a small collection of random objects that he has been given by his friends and the Chief.
17. He is a light sleeper, and upon Dudu being detained, he made it clear that if she did not stop playing her suona, he would find a way into her cell from the vents and make sure that she never performed with it again.
18. He is surprisingly talented at making maps of the areas he has been to, with many of the Bureau’s teams having made use of them during their missions in areas he has already been to.
19. He is a member of a fledgling archery club that has cropped up in the Bureau, to be exact he is in an unspoken competition with EMP for leadership of the club, the pair having never been able to defeat the other in terms of accuracy or rate of fire at the range without tapping into their powers.
20. He is not a fan of flying, and despises being to high in the air to safely land or fight back should the ride be attacked, the same going for swimming as while he has come to enjoy harpoon guns since being introduced to them, much to the Chief’s chagrin, he still finds it too difficult to fight in the water and prefers to remain near to dry land as a result.
21. He can tell real and fake meat apart with just a bite, and even if the taste is exactly the same, he will still become…upset should he find that he has been given fake meat. This came to light during a day when it was uncovered that someone had been attempting to cut costs in the kitchen by using a form of synthetic meat, said attempt ended with them being jumped by Wolverine and other Sinners before they were fired.
22. He is not overly fond of sweet things, though he does enjoy them every now and then, he is more a fan of savory food then sweet, and while he does find combinations of the two types of dishes interesting, he still prefers the dish to be either wholly sweet or wholly savory.
23. He is not fond of rich dishes, not only do they not agree with his stomach, but he personally does not find them to taste any better than the dishes he himself knows how to make, and if anything he finds them to be worse despite the seasoning and techniques used to make them.
24. He is very good at detecting whether or not someone is dangerous, the Chief having come to know that if he is relaxed around someone then they are not a real problem, while if he is tense or uneasy then it is time to be on guard.
The few times he has displayed outright hostile or fearful demeanor of someone, has been in the presence of people like Nox and Dreya (Fear), and Coquelic and Shalom (Hostility), and has been a herald of trying times to come with dealing with these people.
25. As a gift to the Chief, he made a necklace of bones taken from some of his more dangerous hunts, that no one could identify just which beast the center piece, a small skull with multiple eye sockets and a seemingly vertical mouth, only made it more ominous.
Despite the uneasy feeling looking at the necklace gave them, the Chief still accepted the necklace and had it set in a display in their room, something that Wolverine still brags about to this day.
26. He is the embodiment of a ‘Ride or Die’ mentality when it comes to his friends. No matter what happens, they can count on the hunter being there to bail them out in his own way, typically involving a tactically launched pippy aimed at the enemies genitals and a crossbow bolt hellstorm raining down on their foes as he comes to the rescue.
27. He once came back to the Bureau after a particularly deadly hunt with grievous wounds and a claw the size of a normal man’s forearm lodged into his shoulder blade. Despite being in an extreme amount of pain, he was smiling as he told the Chief that he finally found a worthy prey in whitesands.
That the claw was confirmed to not be from a Corruptor, did nothing to lessen the Chief’s concerns over just what kind of monster Wolverine had encountered.
28. He is forbidden from being anywhere near the driver’s side of a vehicle after an incident involving a car, a mall, Pippy hanging on from the antenna of the car, and a thoroughly terrified Chief shooting out the back window at a gang of motorcyclists that were shooting at them.
The specifics of that mission have been classified by the Bureau, partly because of sensitive material, and partly out of second hand embarrassment over what happened that day, though there are rumors agents from the Ninth saying that they had finally found a worse driver than their own director.
29. For his birthday, the Chief took him on a hunting trip with Corso and a few other Sinners, the day ending with Wolverine tucking himself into his small cave with tears of happiness leaking from his eyes as he looked at a group picture that had been taken at the end of the celebration.
All of the other presents, aside from the deer they had caught, while still wonderful, seemed to pale in comparison to that picture, as he looked upon it till he fell asleep with Pippy in his arms.
That's all we have for now, let us know what you think about them and share some of your own if you wish.
Till next time, take care and stay safe all, and pray that we are given a happy event and some happy moments for all of our Sinners and the Chief in the future, we deserve it at this point lol.
top 5 folk dances ? ^^
ROBIN DON'T MAKE ME PICK THIS IS LIKE PICKING A FAVORITE CHILD
Anyways. My top 5 Folk Dances: 1. Vjalla E Pllanes (Albania) This dance is so good. It has everything. It has scarves, it has a bunch of very unique figures that stand out from one another, there's a section where you just fucking SPIN for eight counts as much as you can, and the double-headed eagle is a classic. I love this dance so so much and it looks great.
2. Dance of Ikaria (Greece) EXACTLY THE SAME FOOTWORK as the Serbian dance Biserka/Bojarka and Romanian Boiereasca but I really love the Greek music specifically that was chosen for it. This dance is made to mimic the sound and feeling of waves crashing against the rocks of the islands old Greek monastaries were located on, including Ikaria! It's a dance where you intentionall mimic the feeling of being off balance, and the entire circle of dances sort of rocks back and forth like the barrel of a washing machine. In a small circle, the energy and feeling is so great that I literally feel like I am back in the Indian/Pacific ocean.
3. Ördög Útja (Drumul Dracului) (Csango Peoples, Romania/Moldova) Okay so I didn't credit Romania/Moldova alone here because there is a really important distinction to be made with the Csango Peoples: they are Not Romanian. They're of Hungarian descent and speak a Hungarian dialect, they just live In Romania. It's kind of like Opsa (below) where it's an immigrant group's work, but crediting Hungary entirely feels a little disingenuous, so there we go. Anyways, rant aside, this is the worst fucking dance I have ever danced (/aff). My folk dance group lovingly calls it the Fitness Gram Pacer Test of dances. You think you are done but you are Never Done. The footwork is actually pretty simple, but the real catch with this fucking dance is that it keeps getting faster and the songs can easily go one for over 5 minutes. Traditionally, this dance is done to hype everyone up for the big hunt, and they can easily do it for over twenty minutes straight. Me? I'll just die. We like to haze newcomers to our folk dance classes by having them go into this dance with no warning whatsoever and everyone hates us for it. It's one of our most popularly requested dances. The feeling is universal.
4. Opsa (Croatia/Serbian/USA) The thing with Opsa is that it is so stupidly simple. You just chat with your friends while you dance it! You hold hands, you chat, and whenever it's time to shout "OPSA!", you shout "OPSA!" I do not know what opsa means, and at this point I'm scared to ask. It's great. This dance is a great dance to start off the day, to end the day, or just for when you want to chat.
5. Sicilian Tarantella (Sicily) I was taught the Neapolitan Tarantella (Italy) first, and By God. That's definitely the harder but more "authentic" tarantella, but if you do not know how to dance in a ballroom position, then it is Hell. And let me tell you, most people do not know how to dance in ballroom position. However, the tambourines are always a delight, and the Sicilian Tarantella still retains a lot of the charm of the Neapolitan Tarantella while making it a lot more accessible to beginners. In a dance that relies on the fact that you at bare minimum have a partner, but ideally four people, you should either get a group of people who know how to dance or dance an easier version so people can still have fun. Anyways, that's my spiel.
Special mentions to: Das Fenster (Germany), T'smidje (Beligium), Eastbourne Rover (England), High Green Mountain (Taiwan), Istanbul Bar (Turkey/USA), Udarata Kandukara (Sri Lanka), and Fado Português de Nos (Portugal)
#please please please google if there is folk dancing in your area#i promise it is the most judgement free thing ever#you get to move and experience all these awesome cultures' dances#which is such an interesting connection to people around the world that you rarely get#my life genuinely changed when i discovered folk dancing and i WILL shill it any chance i get#folk dancing#ask game
What Am I Reviewing?
Ouran High School Host Club – Episode 10: A Day in the Life of the Fujioka Family!
Have I Seen This Before?
Nope!
A Recap:
Tamaki has a nightmare that Haruhi lives just above the poverty line, and his solution is to invade her privacy with the rest of the Host Club. This is quickly resolved when it is revealed that Haruhi’s lives a more middle-class life. Her three love interests proceed to spend the rest of the visit trying not to make fools of themselves and failing miserably.
The comedy and drama start to pick up when Haruhi’s father shows up and steals the show.
Ranka establishes three pieces of information. First, he hates Tamaki. Second, he’s been in contact with Kyoya to keep tabs on Haruhi. And third, Haruhi has been independent and altruistic from a young age following the death of her mother.
The episode ends with the Host Club tailing Haruhi to the supermarket and establishing the idea that Ranka and Tamaki have a lot in common.
Which Character is the Strongest in Terms of Writing?
There’s a three-way argument between why it’s Haruhi, Tamaki, or Ranka.
Why it’s Haruhi:
This episode is making a point to establish the foundation of Haruhi’s character. We now know that she’s middle-class, has been independent from a young age, has dealt with Tamaki-esque nonsense thanks to her father, and is still dealing with the loss of her mother even if she’s not grieving.
While Haruhi has always been an altruist, it was the flashback with her father that has emphasized most of all that it comes from a place of love rather than a second-nature reflex.
And what catches my attention most of all is the emphasis on the mystery of why she entered Ouran High. The most that’s been revealed is that she signed up for it herself, but there’s still no answer on why she did it. Much like the last episode, this is fostering my curiosity.
Why it’s Tamaki:
Despite this episode being about revealing more about Haruhi, Tamaki steals the show by being the focal character and having his good moments.
One early part that I loved seeing is his inner monologue stating that he never questions his clubmates on their personal lives. I can see both the greatness and the problem of that mindset. On the one hand, Tamaki is trying to be honorable with his clubmates and professional with his club. On the other, this signals that he isn’t friends with his clubmates.
To explain the latter, I realized that his fear of pushing the envelope is holding him back. He isn’t being social with his clubmates, so he doesn’t actually know them that well. Moreover, this would hold back his relationship with Haruhi and it explains why he can barely understand her as a person despite both his interest and the time he’s spent with her so far.
This is a good establishment of an unexpected flaw. Despite all of Tamaki’s charisma and his insistence on teamwork, his fear of taking the extra step to be friends means that he actually has no friends.
Why it’s Ranka:
Ranka hits the ground running with establishing his character. We quickly learn his backstory, his ideals, his practices, his passions, his job, and even his sexual orientation.
It was really good to know that Haruhi mentions the club members to him and that he’s been in contact with Kyoya, because it keeps him outside of a narrative vacuum. To establish that characters are doing their own activities and have their own involvements offscreen helps to make them feel more three-dimensional.
Something else that I like is that Ranka has it out for Tamaki and isn’t in the wrong for his judgements. Tamaki really is an idiot who has little understanding of Haruhi as a person, so when Ranka calls Tamaki out on these he’s not being a jerk, he’s making a point. I also see it as karma for the victim-blaming incident. Tamaki may have gotten away with picking on Haruhi, but her dad will give no quarter.
Which Relationship is Strongest in Terms of Writing?
One of my favorite writing devices is the Foil. Having characters who are comparable yet contrastable makes for interesting revelations and interaction if they come together. Tamaki and Ranka are no exception to this.
It’s clear that Tamaki and Ranka have similar personalities and views on Haruhi as a person, and that Ranka himself recognizes this at the end of the episode when Tamaki parrots the shopping basket excuse that Ranka used in a flashback. What makes this interesting is that Ranka refuses to get along with Tamaki anyways. This comes with an aspect of protective parenting, but there is also their contrasting aspect that justifies this animosity.
The one thing that sets Tamaki and Ranka apart is that Ranka has a full comprehension of Haruhi as a person, while Tamaki does not. Tamaki’s constant fantasizing of Haruhi acting girly and his insistence that she conform to those fantasies presents how little he’s come to understand her.
Case in point, in this episode Tamaki and the twins kept acting like they were in a social minefield while the other club members could be casual with Haruhi. While Tamaki’s common sense is a problem, he hasn’t come to understand that he doesn’t need to overdo anything or worry about offending her because she’s not the woman he thinks she is.
On the opposite side, Ranka has a full comprehension on who Haruhi is and has chosen a compromise; he chose to allow Haruhi’s independence, but act as a backup to keep her out of mortal danger. When I look at that previous sentence, I can see that he’s trying to be a good parent.
The difference between our flamboyant goofs is their understanding and general intelligence, and I can see that Ranka understands that Tamaki is lacking in both areas in regards to Haruhi. So, Ranka’s active hatred for Tamaki is an interesting twist on a relationship between Foils, but it is a relationship that makes sense.
Which Character is Weakest in Terms of Writing?
Nobody.
None of the cast members bought the episode down at all.
Which Relationship is Weakest in Terms of Writing?
None of them.
How is the Conflict?
The Conflict was nice. Tamaki being overly worried was accurate to his character, helped to bring the plot forward, and got Haruhi’s backstory established so I can’t complain about anything.
As for Ranka showing up, I’ve made it pretty clear that I respect him and all the shade he throws at Tamaki. Not to mention throwing Tamaki at the nearby wall, call me salty but he had it coming.
So yeah, good Conflict all around.
Is there Anything Else I Can Praise or Criticize?
Outdated Views:
Man, this show really likes taking the early 2000s and having it rear its ugly head. I know that everything here is a product of its time, but that doesn’t make the twins feel any less punch-able when they use derogatory terms to Ranka’s face.
What Writing Lesson Can I Take from This Episode?
Ranka stands as a good example of keeping characters out of a narrative vacuum. When he’s introduced, we quickly learn that he’s busy with other things, but not uninvolved in Haruhi’s life.
This is a good way to introduce a new character. You have to justify why they weren’t present before and establish why they’re important to the overall narrative in a way that doesn’t make their existence seem sudden.
Keep this in mind when you want to bring in the new cast members. Justify their absence, then justify their place in the narrative. Do not keep them in the narrative vacuum, that’s just too cruel.
@curiousnonny
So let me preface my ratings here by saying that I really think these books are already so well edited in terms of necessary content that making a movie version of any of them is a mistake. Maybe I'm biased and greedy, but I honestly feel like 99% of the scenes in the books play a crucial role in either plot, character, or theme development and removing them waters down the story too much, in my opinion. I would much rather have seen a series version on screen than a movie. Not to mention, Collins made her name as a writer in television, and you can SEE IT in how she writes her novels. It's structured like a TV series so it should've been shot like a TV series. Anyways. So my rankings are gonna be... kinda low for the movies. Sorry not sorry.
But also... my thoughts on this are fresh. My youngest was supposed to read The Hunger Games with his 6th grade class. The teacher sent home a form requesting parents' permission to do so. I signed it gladly and sent it back, but apparently there were a lot of parents who sent it back with complaints instead of approval. Enough that the class read the first Percy Jackson book instead. I'm fine with that too, lol, especially since my kiddo really liked it and is now on book five of that series. I've been trying to reread along with him and will hopefully be catching up to him this week, lol.
After his teacher switched books for the class reading, he and I decided we'd read THG books together once he's done with PJO, but then, my oldest skipped a field trip he really didn't wanna go on and wound up staying at school and watching... The Hunger Games and part of Catching Fire. He came home with QUESTIONS, which immediately sparked a "Hey, not fair!" from the youngest and prompted a movie marathon. We made it through all four movies back in March, and I'm still not forgiven for not warning him about Finnick btw...
Okay enough story time. *cracks knuckles*
The Hunger Games
Ranking: 2/5
Things I don't like: Ugh where to start? The removal of Madge and therefore the significance of Katniss's mockingjay pin as a symbol of wealth and power bestowed by the Capitol only to be flipped on its head and turned into a symbol of rebellion. Also, the implications of removing Madge in terms of how they tried to make Katniss into STRONG BADASS WO-MAN while dulling some of her softer edges and dependencies on other people. See also: leaving out the gift of bread from D11 to Katniss.
The dialogue is shit. Sorry, those are my thoughts. You already had really good dialogue in the book why change that? Also, the gutting of the dialogue results in the gutting of both Katniss and Peeta as characters. The first movie turns them into The Watson character, i.e. the character whose purpose it is to ask questions so that the audience can learn about the setting/plot/other characters/whatever. The first movie made Katniss and Peeta look naive and dumb about the Games and the very world they inhabit, which makes no sense for their characters. I get it. It's a storytelling technique to quicken up the process of world building and make up for the fact that we don't get to be in Katniss's head where she tells us what we need to know about her world. BUT their characters suffer for it. Katniss and Peeta are sixteen. Anyone who has interacted with a teenager knows that at that age, we usually have #OPINIONS on things, so in the books, both already have developing opinions about the Games because they are by necessity and by exposure aware of how the Games and the government essentially work. They've lived in this world long enough. They've started to develop opinions and world views, and they act accordingly. The first movie loses this completely from the books.
Do not get me started on the dialogue in the cave scenes we will be here until the next century if we go there.
Buttercup. Christ how hard is it to cast a yellow/orange cat?!?!?! Not that difficult. And granted, this is a minor detail in terms of symbols but at the same time... it's a minor detail. The fact that they didn't even bother showed a lack of caring about the details. Also see: Rock Peeta.
The stakes of almost everything are lowered, from the bread scene (we don't realize until MJ2 that she's literally starving and knocking on death's door in that scene) to the berry scene (and here it's Peeta knocking on death's door and Katniss is desperate to save him, enough to put POISON BERRIES IN HER MOUTH and risk her own life too)... the movie lacks the desperation for both of those crucial parts.
Peeta's leg Peeta's leg Peeta's motherfreaking amputated leg!!!!!!
Things I liked: The sound and sound editing. It's such a small thing, and I have a story to go with this okay? When I saw it in theaters, I disliked a lot of things, but one of them was something I could not put my fingers on. It bugged me for weeks until the movie came out on DVD (yes, I'm old and also saw it at the veeeeeeery end of its theater run where I live... like it was a $5 special...). Anyways. Mr. Kdnfb is an electrical engineer by education and is suuuuuper picky about our sound system in our house. So when I watched it at home, the Thing clicked in my brain. The SOUND. It had been Waaaaaay Off in a way that was awful in that theater for some reason. And once I watched it at home, there was just something about the way they did the sound that made a lot of what I had hated become less of A Thing to me. The more I've watched it, the more I've realized the sound and sound editing was excellent, and I put this as things I liked because my story goes to show how such a tiny thing can really screw up a movie.
Catching Fire
Ranking: 3.5/5 (Omg I'm gonna get barbecued for this one.)
Things I didn't like: See my caveat at the top. Okay, so. One of my biggest problems is just how much got cut to adapt this one to screen. Sooooo many scenes. Finnick "hanging" himself in training, "someone else can get the stupid goat knocked up," all the hullabaloo about the wedding is talked about but that doesn't happen in the movies, the setup for the existence of D13, the plant book and Peeta caring for an injured Katniss, training like Careers, scaring Peeta with the medicine, Katniss really starting to come around to the idea of a rebellion even before the Quell announcement, "Poor Finnick. Is this the first time you haven't been pretty?" Just so much cut for the sake of time and results in the story feeling rushed and sloppy ugh.
While the cast and crew for this one did a much better job adapting the dialogue to the screen, there are still a few crucial bits of dialogue that make me itch with hives. The post jabberjay scene and the death of the morphling mainly. Good lord. You finally let movie!Peeta be as eloquent and convincing as book!Peeta in D11, why not give him the space to do it in the arena, too?
Things I do like: The casting. Hear me out. After the first movie, I was still not entirely sold on Jennifer, Josh, and Liam for the roles they were playing. Really, the only main characters who live through the first movie that I was happy and 100% on board with with were Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci. Catching Fire is where I accepted Josh's portrayal of Peeta a little bit more, mainly because of the process of film making and what they put forth with CF showed me that he could nail the part if only they'd give him the dialogue and choose the cuts that best showed what he could do. I have no idea what sort of dialogue they were given or how much free reign they were allowed to improvise, but I do know that they will shoot a scene multiple times with multiple different delivery styles and slightly different dialogue. Which means that the actors really don't get a say on which version of their performance makes the final cut. But when the dialogue was spot on in the final version, I felt like Josh pulled off Peeta very well. I also think the way they shot CF allowed Jennifer Lawrence to put forth a better overall performance as well, although I'm still not in love with her as Katniss.
But really it's the Quell Victors/Tributes that I loved about CF. I went in unsure and came out convinced. My caveat here is that I tend to think of the movies as their own thing. The movie versions of the characters are their own iteration and I try really hard not to let them bleed into how I see or think of the characters in the books. That doesn't always happen, but I do try.
Okay this one is kinda not the fault of the first movie, but the increased budget for CF is apparent in several of the things that I liked, namely the costumes, the staging, the special effects. Much better all around.
Mockingjay Part 1
Ranking: 3/5
Things I did not like: Gale. MJ1 finishes off the complete removal of any depth Gale had as a character, a process that started with him rage rushing Head Peacekeeper Thread in CF and culminates here with him condemning Peete's words as a TORTURED PRISONER OF WAR rather than him not only intuiting what's probably happening, but explaining it to Katniss, then trying to protect Katniss from it, like he does in the books. The reason why book!Gale is so much more compelling to me than movie!Gale is because Gale's anger and fire and indignation has REASONING behind it in the book. It is chillingly easy to see the lines his reasoning could possibly take. As in... I've worked in weapons development and I have worked with real people who think like book!Gale or Beetee. Whereas movie!Gale is basically just RAWR!!! fury.
The rescue scene. I could write an entire essay on what's wrong with this, but it all boils down to they tried to shorten it by overlapping the video of the rescue with Finnick talking. Which makes zero military sense btw why the freak would you broadcast helmet video of your team going in on a stealth mission and risk someone intercepting it or noting the presence of an encrypted signal and figuring out what was going on holy hell you would NOT. You'd be freaking SILENT and just waiting to find out!!!!!!! And yes yes, but we need to see it. Okay, but you've already shown scenes with Snow and Seneca talking, Seneca and Haymitch talking, Snow and Plutarch talking, Snow and his granddaughter!!!! cuts from D11 and so much more that Katniss would not have seen, so play this like that. You can still show the audience but clearly keep Katniss and everyone back in D13 in the dark. The way it's shot is nonsensical and also pretty much waters down the horror of what Finnick went through and the impact of his words.
And while we're on this topic, they somehow used that overlapping and ridiculous video feed to try and shorten the scene, but wound up making it interminably and unbelievably long with the layers upon layers upon LAYERS of rooms the rescue squad has to go through and also the Skype Call of Inanity. The whole debacle is so freaking long that I no longer feel tense by the time it's finally over. It's so obvious that the Capitol is letting them take back Peeta, Annie, and Johanna because of how long a stealth mission (which should be almost too fast to process) takes that it becomes stupid for D13 to not suspect something. There's no desperation or high stakes for me with this scene because it's too long and too messy, makes no sense tactically and basically just erases all the emotional depth and pacing of what's in the books ugh. Seriously. You could've spent that time on the torture of the prep team or some of the Boggs and Katniss or Katniss and Finnick content we miss out on. Delly. Gale's siblings. Literally anything that you cut out. Rant over.
"He's gonna kill Peeta".... um no actually it's that Snow won't kill Peeta but keep dangling him in front of you, Katniss...
Things I did like: The sets. District 13 is... perfect. Sterile and drab and utilitarian. Zero luxury or any real sense that humans live there. There are zero personal touches in any of the spaces. No connections to art or joy or life.
Effie. I really wish we'd still gotten the prep team in D13, because it's an avenue through which we see how brutal and lacking in compassion D13 really is, but if it's Effie there with her for the movies, then Elizabeth Banks did a stellar job with what she was given to do. I do wish they'd allowed Finnick to keep his line: "They'll either want to kiss you, kill you, or be you." And if not that, then don't freaking cut the "Why, do you find this distracting?" scene. But overall, Effie in D13 works for me in terms of the movie universe.
Mockingjay Part 2
Ranking: 2.5/5
Things I didn't like: Facepalm worthy wigs and dye jobs. Dude. You are the final chapter of a big budget blockbuster franchise. I understand that the dye jobs have taken their toll and wigs may be just more practical for the actors at this stage, but DO BETTER with the money you have.
Just how much of Johanna they cut out of this part and what that does to Katniss's development.
The ending. It's so lackluster in so many ways. One of the things that I loved about the theme of the ending is how it shows that with the right kind of care, a life can be lived and be worthwhile even after the worst kinds of trauma. We get this through the sheer beauty of Katniss's final words in both the final chapter and the epilogue. To me, the movie ending felt just... blah. And I get that maybe they were aiming for a sense of calm and peace, but instead it came off as blah, we're broken and just going through the motions. Which makes sense right after the war ends, but not as the ending continues into the "Real" scene or the epilogue.
Mahershala Ali is highly underutilized in this movie. Let the man play the freaking part. He's already good with what you let him do. Let him unleash the acting chops and make Boggs sing as a character. And part of this has to do with what they cut from the film, like him carrying Katniss to the hovercraft in D8 and her vomiting on him. Same with Julianne Moore. Coin was not nearly cold or controlling enough nor did she convincingly clash with Katniss enough leading up to Peeta showing up in the Capitol.
The omission of the heartbreaking silence Katniss puts herself into and how they turned the sadness of the final breaking of her friendship with Gale into "Goodbye Gale." Ugh. I laugh at it, but it's not a good change. Like we can't allow a Strong Wo-Man Character to be sad or hurt about this, why not????
Burn. Scars. Burn. Scars. Burn. Scars. BURN! SCAAAAARRRRRRRSSSSSS!!!!!
Things I did like: The music. Odd pick I know, but even though the ending is not well done for me, I almost always start bawling the second Katniss starts singing the meadow lullaby as the credits roll. And that's just one weird instance of me liking the music for this film.
How they brought the hijacking to life. I can't even explain why this works so well, but it does. My only wish is that they'd given more time for the Real/Not Real game to develop on film and included more of Peeta's dialogue that shows both the struggle and him regaining parts of himself -- the cafeteria scene, his words to Pollux and Tigris for example.
And there you have it, @curiousnonny. My super long answer to your question. ;)
With love: (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ Stan
I have the first class with Tweek, which is nice because we have become close with the years.
“Hey man, are you feeling better?” He asks as the teacher goes on about who knows what.
“Not really, I feel worse… but don't say a word to Kyle!” He shakes a little harder than usual.
“You know I won't!”
“Yeah, sorry. It's just that I hate it when he tells me what to do.”
“I know, hanging out with him can be way too much pressure.” I smile. Fine choice of words. “Don't you want to go to the infirmary?”
“I'll be fine! What's your next class?”
“Chemist.”
“Oh, I have English. See you at lunch, then.” I walk away, but he catches up to me.
“I’ll just skip that, man. You don’t look so good.” We end up going to Stark's Pond.
“Are you sure about this, isn’t it too much pressure?” I say, mocking his motto, he flips me off and I snort. It is still funny that he got that from Craig.
“This is better than school,” says Tweek, looking at the nature.
“Damn right,” I lay down. “I’ll try to sleep, maybe that’s all I need.” Tweek takes a sweater out of his backpack and puts it over me.
“Aww, that’s sweet man. Thank you for staying with me.” He smiles. “If Craig ever gets too stupid, dump him and choose me instead.” I wink at him and he looks nervous for a second, just before he remembers I like to tease him like that.
“If you can joke around, then I guess you are not feeling that bad, right?” I feel like shit, but this cheers me up a bit.
I sleep for a couple of hours, until it starts getting too cold, so we go home. If I’m lucky, no one will be around. Inside the house, Cartman calls. That’s weird, he usually just texts or sends endless voice messages.
“How is it going?”
“Everything is so shitty today I want to kick myself in the nuts.” I laugh. He has his unique way to curse and I have grown fond of it. “But whatever, whatever! Soon it will be different. You’ll see, Kenny.”
“Oh, yeah?” But lately it feels like everything is out of control. Maybe it always was. “How so?”
“Don’t be an asshole, Kenny, if you push me I’ll tell you and you’ll ruin the surprise!”
“Ok then, I’ll hang up,” I say calmly.
“Don’t. Just tell me what’s new.”
“Well,” I have to think about something that doesn’t have to do with my shitty life. "Oh, right! Stan dumped Wendy."
“You mean that Wendy dumped Stan? That's not new!” He answers with a scoff, a grin grows on my face.
“No, idiot! I said Stan dumped Wendy! He did it.”
“Are you kidding me?”
“No.”
“That's fucking awesome.”
“Yes, I was sick of them. Stan gets all dark and goth,” I say, finally laying in bed.
"Screw that hippie bitch!”
“You are just pissed at her because you never got her to like you.” I hear him groan.
“Whatever, Kenny. How's Stan?” I guess it is that kind of stuff that makes me think he has changed.
“He was crying and laughing at the same time. It creeped me out! But I think he will be better soon.”
“He will find another hippie, if he doesn't then he still has his jew.” I hum. “Are you still sick?”
“Just a little.”
"God damn it Kenny, I told you not to stay out so late!” I chuckle.
"You can’t tell me what to do, but I will be fine. Don’t worry."
“If I was there, I would just make you stay home for a while.”
“I’d like to see you try,” I purr, teasing and there's something delightful in his reply, between a scoff and a laugh.
"Kenny." The way he says it sends a shiver of satisfaction through me. “You flirty son of a bitch. What about you, are you dating someone new?”
“Not really. Got bored with the last one.”
“Weren’t you trying that polyamours crap?”
“Yes, I just. I don’t know. Maybe dating is not for me.”
“And what about sex?”
“I’m too tired to think about that.”
“What. Is it Kenny the one I’m talking to? Did you die and got replaced by an evil clone?”
“Shut up, Cartman. You are being a fucking asshole.” He snickers.
“No, you are an asshole, Kenny. Get some rest and we will talk tomorrow, ok?”
“Oh, ok.” I’m too tired anyway, so I fall asleep wondering what surprise is he talking about.
I wake up facing the window, the sun is shining and I feel better. I think about Cartman, and when I look at my cell phone, I see that he is calling. I pick up, but I can barely talk.
“Kenny! What the fuck?”
“Huh?”
“Are you still sick?”
“What. No. Better,” I mutter.
“You are late for school! Fucking run.” He hangs up. I look at the clock and shit! I’m half an hour late! I usually wouldn’t care, but I want to graduate this year, so I run as fast as I can, but when I’m getting to the classroom, I slide on a wet tile. I know my head is about to burst with a stair edge. I have died so many times, why is it still scary?
As I fall, my life goes through my eyes until I remember this morning call.
Wait.
How did Eric know I was late for school?
Something stops me right before the impact.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? i don't think i'm too confident on writing dialogue in another language!! I would probably just put it in italics and say its being done hhh or if i do, then i'd want it checked by someone who speaks it
19. first fandom you wrote for?
I feel like I'm complaining a lot about my mom this week but it's been a specific breed of week that makes interacting with her difficult...
That said I kinda wanna make a Stardew Valley mod called "Stardew Valley but you live with MY Mom"
Functionally it would just be an npc of my mom living in your house and if you talk to her she drains 15 energy off of you. But if you DON'T talk to her everyday then each day the energy drain is double. If you don't talk to her and let it hit 100 then you'll wake up the next day and she'll be blocking your door so you can't leave the house unless you speak to her, but this triggers an unskippable event where you have to listen to her tell her whole life story and why it's the worst life possible and why she hates her life and there's so much dialogue that if you button spam it'll still take like 6-10 minutes irl to get past all the text. When the event ends you'll be outside your house, it's 1:00am, you lost 100 energy, and you have 1 hour to try and salvage watering your plants and harvesting anything and tending your animals. This event has a Higher chance to just trigger anyway if it's a holiday/festival day (forcing you to miss the festival if you don't reset the day) or if it's the birthday of someone in town (making it harder to give them a gift). The next day though she'll give you an amazingly helpful mod-custom breakfast item even if you don't have a kitchen. The food item may or may not mean the difference between a world record speed run or not.
As well as the above, if you have 5+ hearts with any NPCs, her daily complaint dialogue might be about them and if it is, along with draining the energy points you lose points with that person, because it's hard to stay friends with someone when the person you live with never stops talking negatively about them. (+10 friend points for hanging out, -15 for everytime you have to hear mom complain about them, that kinda mood)
When you add a new animal to the farm she will go out and tend/pet all of your animals (dog/cat included) for 2 days after, so you can theoretically keep her distracted for 2 days at a time, but selling an animal triggers an event that greatly lowers moms exp/hearts. (Her dialogue will change to always be complaining about what you named the most recent animal). In this state interacting only loses 5 points daily.
Mom only has 3 heart events. The first one she tries to join the aerobics class that's held at Caroline and Pierre's house. You catch her leaving the shop and tells you how badly it went, she tells you all the negative opinions everyone has about her as if she can read their minds and throws in her own negative opinions of everyone else before going home saying she will not be coming back. This is the only time you ever see her off your farm property. Caroline exits and asks where mom ran off to, having only nice things to say and how the others found her stories interesting, that she's a very talented woman and would love for her to come back next week.
The Second event happens as your mom is sick for the day. It's mostly similar to the event if she catches you at the door where she hates her life on the farm and wishes she never left the city and how you had a great job in you Joja cubicle. You do get a potential dialogue option to tell her that she used to say she hated the city and your Joja job and wanted to move to the country onto a farm, but if you choose that option she has an adverse reaction it it guarantees 100% that she will meet you at the door the next day, so you can only silently nod and agree to avoid that. Moving her to stardew valley, and her unhappiness, is officially your fault now.
The third event has you head into town and encounter Harvey, who mentions he was talking a walk near your farm and happened to meet your mom at the mailbox having scared her with his unexpected presence. They had gotten to talking and he mentions her odd behavior for how long you've lived in the town. You have 3 dialogue choices where you can confide in Harvey
-Mom had a stroke a few years back, but refuses to acknowledge the side effects.
-Mom was diagnosed with depression she refuses to acknowledge.
-Mom is suspected to possibly be bipolar but refuses to acknowledge it.
No matter what you choose Harvey will sympathize that it must both be hard to live with mom, but also very hard to BE my mom and says if you or Mom ever want to talk to any medical professionals to just call his clinic and he will get you hooked up.
There is never a follow up to this event and life continues on unchanged.
It's not all bad and toxic tho. If you talk to Mom anytime aside from her events and the initial daily drain she has lots of nice things to say, and seemingly is happy sometimes, bringing up ideas for crafting and hobbies she's like to pursue. She can be given gifts and even ones she hates she will accept politely. Inside she's a kind caring considerate person who thinks of others first... but you have to go out of your way to find that dialogue.
I think that would be a very balanced mod that, although adds more negatives than positives would give a rough idea of my day to day living on a hobby farm (something that's been my childhood goal) with my mom sort of making it more mentally taxing than it has to be...
Volume 2 thoughts, otherwise known as Disorganized Simping On Main. No i will not add pictures i think the lack of context makes it funny
1-
Oh fucking hell is it legato time already? It’s so EARLY. I mean we’d get to the cool stuff faster but SHIT.
Goofiest vash panel spotted
What that mouth d- *gets shot*
Holy shit he’s really different here huh. The depression is seriously obvious; it's wild.
That and he’s like. Extra pretty when he’s angry. Might be because those panels get more love and care put into them because there’s less of them so far.
We’re decapitating people now. DAMN that’s fucking heavy. We’re not even to maximum yet.
Tonally the manga is so much darker but I’m kind of eating it right the fuck up.
I wonder if there’s any significance to the one dollar coins? Those are impossible to find now, let alone however many centuries in the future they are (I think it was something like 400 years? Maybe that was just stampede.)
2-
EY YO COLORED PAGES???
Girl what the fuck-
I want to color this whole goddamn chapter but i have RESPONSIBILITIES and shit (<- unemployed and taking one (1) summer class)
The fucking smile. The switch. I yelled out loud. God they are so fucked up.
The fangs make an appearance. Lovely. Horrible circumstances though.
3-
He looks so fucking tired. Angry, too, but so tired. I love the simmering rage we get here, it’s missing from every other version tbh.
I always forget how absurdly capable he is. That’s the point, I guess, but man. Man.
OH SHIT THE ARM
Knives is so… wrong. In such a fascinating way though. The way he seems happy that Rem managed to save everyone, not for the people but for her- that’s so fucked and i am enamored with his specific brand of bullshit.
4-
I have so many questions about his scars. Like rule of cool or whatever but I need specifics. Why do they look like that in particular? What purpose do the implants serve etc etc?
I didn’t even register that they don’t know it’s a prosthetic. That had to freak them out so bad
His reasoning is interesting here. It’s not about his love for humanity at all, that comes later. He’s doing this for Rem. His vibes here are more like someone struggling to hold himself to what she believed in instead of actually, truly believing in it. It makes him more real, I think.
Maybe it’s the nature of the medium, but everybody seems much more introspective. Meryl specifically sticks out to me.
God he takes it so personally when people are all Dog Eat Dog. I can’t blame him.
Woah. Panty shot. (Side note i can’t WAIT to see him without the coat.)
Hunting he says. What’s he gonna do when he catches him? (Rhetorical)
5-
i read this in class so i didn’t take notes oops
6-
legato is unironically terrifying in the worst way.
I have never been a Huge Wolfwood Enjoyer. However i am charmed by his silly faces.
If i didn’t know better i’d call him a loser (affectionate)
GAY. HOLY SHIT
“come, let’s take ibuprofen together”
I love how 98, if anything, toned this interaction down.
Why the FUCK is midvalley built like a damn brick wall
7-
Vash is so. So fucking cute. My god i am the gayest mf alive.
I guess everyone is on this page but i'm fixated on confused vash he’s got me enamored
“DO NOT ENGAGE. I REPEAT, DO NOT FUCKING ENGAGE.”
I totally didn’t register that his arm was still gone until just now oops
Oh this is perspective porn. Love that shit
I hate to admit this but there’s something about seeing Vash freaked out that makes me grin. It might be like “WOAH SOMETHING IS HAPPENING.” Or i’ve just gone off the deep end.
Is. Is he blushing. Oh my god is he embarrassed-
I have to wonder why the bible is so popular here. Just based on the circumstances? I was never really sure if the events were literal in the trigun universe or not
VASHUSSY!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I am normal about him)
(It is NOT my fault he’s in those pants)
8-
I have a whole essay to write on vash and bodily autonomy but i'm gonna finish reading the manga first- other people have probably said it earlier and better than me.
Oh. Shit. That sure didn’t happen in 98 huh.
I find that every character has gotten more interesting in the manga. This might be because i’m already familiar with their anime counterparts. Wolfwood though, im starting to understand why trimax people like him so much.
The plants are so freaky here fr
CREATURE VASH
this is all kinds of fucked up and based on other posts i’ve seen this week it literally only gets worse from here
I hate how easy it is to empathize with everyone in this situation. I do appreciate Vash pretty much dropping the mask here, like this is what’s under all of the antics and his reputation.
He looks way too good in that top for the situation at hand smh i am SO distracted
Tbh had i not already committed to what i did i would’ve done these pages they’re so pretty
Does wolfwood know anything about this or is it all news to him???
God you can see the actual chunk of shoulder he’s missing from this angle
I do wonder how much of Knives’ concern is him genuinely feeling bad and how much is just like. Manipulation.
God this is so fucked up
On a lighter note the belts bursting from his arm are kind of a cool visual. Shit’s gotta hurt though.
MAN. FUCKING HELL.
EXTRAS
Day in day out- This made me laugh out loud. It also made me sad. No notes.
Pilot- Different vash definitely. My mans would not upskirt a girl like that.
I love seeing concept shit this is wonderful.
Time for trimax now i guess shit fuck goddamn
Junior Eurovision 2023 detailed opinions before the show. Part 1
Well, as I told you in my previous post where I made my tier-ranking for this year's Junior Eurovision, I will now make a new explanation about my opinion of each song by tier! As my second live-watch JESC, I'm very hyped to see how this year goes since it's more of a ballad edition, I got more than one winner, and well the live decides it all!
Let's start from the lowest to the highest tier!
Tier 5: "I heard better ones in previous years"
🇮🇹 Melissa and Ranya "Un Mondo Giusto"
First of all, I will clarify I don't have any beef with this or other song in low places. I'm more open in JESC, I support the kiddos, and also, the songs are at least decent compared to some songs of the adult edition I really hate or just bore me. But since there are a lot of entries I like from this year, the first one really didn't catch me too much compared to others.
For being their first song in JESC, Melissa and Ranya sing so good in a duo. The raspy voice of Melissa caught me off-guard with the soft singing of Ranya. And somehow, the combination goes well for the song, apart of the main melody and the Italian talent. But for being a ballad between others this year, it doesn't surprise me too much. Like Albania last year with "Pakez Diell". And I regret right now saying Chanel Dilecta's "Bla Bla Bla" was the downgrade of the downgrades after Elisabetta Lizza's "Specchio" in 2021; at least Chanel's song would have been more than welcome in the train of ballads of this year.
I really hope the live version in Nice boosts them a lot. Because they have potential nevertheless. They are nice girls! :D
🇬🇪 Anastasia and Ranina (still Oto and Nikoloz for me) "Over the Sky"
I had better hopes for the Georgian trio this year. Like, it was a surprise for me when GPB decided to call two Ranina finalists, Oto Bazerashvili and Nikoloz Kharati, to join Anastasia Vasadze (Ranina 2023 winner and direct representant of Georgia in JESC 2023) for this edition. And well, a trio already won the Junior contest in 2008 and Ranina always delivers potential winners, so surely they would have a song to get their fourth victory, right?
First with the good things, the song itself is good. Calm and more serene, but good. And the trio really works here, even the boys have their moment to shine! (considering they decided to make Anastasia the main singer and call the male duo "Ranina", something that still bugs me). The music has good potential. And the lyrics inspire me, even the "Ranina, hey!" chant. But with the downsides, not the best song I expected for them after hearing a masterpiece like Mariam Bigvava's "I Believe" last year (and other songs from Georgia in previous editions). Not bad, but softer in vibes than 2022.
Hearing the rumours of two expert ballet dancers joining them for the live version, I think a good staging can deliver this song to a well-placed position still (and if possible, maybe win?). Just to wait.
Tier 4: "Unlikely but potential Top 5/Winners(?)"
🇦🇱 Viola Gjyzeli "Bota Ime"
To think I had this one at the bottom of my list before the revamp. As someone who listened (at work) the Junior Fest 2023, I thought "no way, they gonna choose another Pakez Diell again" due to most songs (and the contest itself) being soft; and "Bota Ime" 's first version didn't surprise me when it won. But when I thought it would be in the lowest place for the list, the revamped version came in the YT channel of JESC and my gosh, what a glow up!
It's still not, as a popular TV phrase in Mexico says, "Que bruto, pero que temazo!" ("What a bop!"). But the studio version gave the song the strength it needed a lot. Viola's voice sounds so whimsical and with class. The entry is way less plain than Pakez Diell at least. And as for the lyrics (the same one that wrote Duje made this? WOAH), if the studio video made them have sense, I wonder how will the live deliver that "own fairyland" feeling I appreciate of the song.
I really hope they keep the vibes and world-setting for the live version. To see them ruining it would be devastating for this song.
🇬🇧 Stand Uniqu3 "Back To Life"
After Freya Skye's SLAY (even if sick bc of cold night ceremony, darn you, EBU) in Yerevan with "Lose My Head", I knew United Kingdom wouldn't play easy. Sure, Mae Muller's "I Wrote A Song" placed at the last places in Liverpool (something I won't forgive alongside LOTL's unfair last place and "Solo" at the grand final >:U), but in JESC they would still give fiery competition! And we have "Back To Life"
A group in Junior Eurovision is always welcome in my list. And Maisie, Yazmin and Hayla (the girls) really got some good vocals and energy for their song! Sure, not too great compared to Freya's entry and queen vibes, but the song itself is awesome (and necessary given the time, when a lot of ballads were revealed)! They remind me a lot of Fifth Harmony imo, maybe by vocals or the entire energy they give in the song.
If the staging and live version can upgrade their entry to a new level than it is already, maybe United Kingdom can get some justice for what they did to Mae and get a good placing!
🇫🇷 Zoé Clauzure "Cœur"
As always, I expect for the host/winning country in a Junior edition to have a good "defender entry", a song that shows the world they're not playing safe just because they won once and/or host the contest. France did it with Enzo's "Tic Tac" (even if the Discord fandom despises him fsr), Armenia with Nare's "Dance!" (and they really ALMOST WON TWICE A ROW like Poland in 2018-2019). And I had my hopes high for France (again XD) after Lissandro's win
For being a French JESC song not written by legend (and idol for some of my mutuals) Barbara Pravi, this one takes the cake for being as French as possible (in a good way) and still be likeable for every audience! Zoe's vocals sound SO CLASSY for someone so young, and the song itself could easily be confused for an adult Eurovision entry (with some tweaks). And yeah, the entry reminds me A LOT of La Zarra's "Évidemment" (another Big 5 robbed entry this year, no wonder she gave everyone the finger and left the Green Room before the end of the votes). Not of my 100% favorites or a song I see winning JESC 2023, but I still love it.
At this point I wonder if they will pull a "Paris/France reference" in the live staging (like La Zarra did this year, queen), because the song itself is so wonderful it screams good live version!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's all for this first part! Next one I will get to the personal wild card tier! See ya!
1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
(Long history with this one, but let’s just say my personal copy of it is the item that family members have told me is the litmus tests if I should ever disappear. If it’s still here, I did not go willingly.)
2. Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkein
(When I was 12 I was in a weird place, and my mother, who adores the movies, told me that she’d never actually read the books. It took me several weeks, and one night where my mom came to check on me because my light was still on after midnight, only to find that I had fallen asleep and was drooling on top of Return of the King.)
3. Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte
(First Brontë I ever read, and I listened to it on audio first. Two years ago I gave my grandparents, who never actually pick gifts, they just want Amazon links sent to them, a choice between Jagged Little Pill on vinyl, and a nice copy of Jane Eyre. Apparently they decided Jane Eyre was less scandalous.)
4. Harry Potter series
(My mom read all seven of these out loud to me and my siblings over the course of seven years.)
5. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
(The summer before I started college, so when I was 15, I worked twice a week at my local library, and I would always go home with huge stacks of books because I was going through one every day, or two if it was particularly dense. I read this one that summer, mostly while spread out on a picnic blanket in my backyard, and I think that’s how it was always intended to be read.)
6. The Bible
(Yes. All of it. In case my blog hasn’t given it away by now, my religious upbringing was… intense.)
7. Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
(I read this book once for school when I was 14 and hated it. I read it again when I was 16 and bought a copy in Grand Central Station, still hated it. But when I read it again at 19, because I was extremely bored at work and saw it on audio? So yeah, I read a book I knew I hated twice, it shouldn’t have surprised me when I realized I actually liked it and it was important to me.)
8. Nineteen Eighty Four – George Orwell
(I actually got into a discussion with my collage English professor at one point about what our favorite books where, and I mentioned Orwell, he had thought I ment this one, but I was talking about Animal Farm. This made me a little self conscious, because I hadn’t read the bigger hit, so I immediately wandered up to the school library and checked this one out, just so I could say I’d read it by Wednesday when class met again.)
9. Great Expectations – Charles Dickens
(I had a hot Charles Dickens summer one year. This was the first one I read, and it was because of Into the Spiderverse. Miles Morales is a role model.)
10. Little Women – Louisa M Alcott
(I do not love this book. I have watched every adaptation that has ever been made, yes, even the anime. The Greta Gerwig one is pretty good because I’m a sucker for non-linear narratives and Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet are pretty good at it.)
11. Catch 22 – Joseph Heller
(In December of 2021, I realized that I had never read this book, and had the opportunity to do something very funny. So yeah. I read what is considered to be one of the greatest novels of the 20th century as a joke to myself. Anyway, it’s very good, you should probably read it, especially if you like WWII stories and Kafka. Again, love a non-linear narrative.)
12. Complete Works of Shakespeare
(Yes. I got a complete edition at a library book sale, and drew stars on the cover in white gel pen so people would know it was mine, because I’m apparently that bitch. Although, I haven’t read the lost plays (obviously) so I don’t know if I can honestly say I’ve read the Complete works.)
13. Rebecca – Daphne Du Maurier
(I read this after watching Hannibal the series for the second time because I got into a very deep Gothic Romance mood. I also accidentally got my friend to read it because we were comparing our current reads at the time, and that is how I ended up reading We Always Lived in a Castle.)
14. The Hobbit – JRR Tolkien
(The far superior Tolkien work in my personal taste. I love it. One of my friends reads this book once a year, and I love that for them, I’m not quite that in love with it, but this is about where my limits on where I can enjoy fantasy lie. Like, I’ll read higher stuff if I make myself, but I’ll tell you right now, I’m going to finish and move the fuck on.)
15. Catcher in the Rye
(It’s by J. D. Salinger, by the way. The list didn’t have an author on there. Read this one the same summer as To Kill a Mockingbird. Anyway, I love that Holden Caulfield was just some fucking guy that Salinger made up and decided to put in a bunch of his works, without bothering to make it into a series by making timelines or middle names match. He really just put his OC in situations, and I love that.)
16. Gone With The Wind – Margaret Mitchell
(My brother used to work a job where he would help a guy in town sort through old books that he got from somewhere, and pick out ones that were still readable from ones that had been completely ruined, and he made a few bucks an hour and got to take home any books he wanted, and the guy would sell the good ones for like fifty cents somewhere. But my brother would always bring home books he thought people would like. At the time I was obsessed with the costume designs Walter Plunkett had done for the 1939 mega-hit film. So, when my brother found one while sorting through books, I ended up being gifted the most beaten up copy of Gone With the Wind I’ve ever seen in my life.)
17. The Great Gatsby – F Scott Fitzgerald
(I am obnoxious about this book. I can, and have, talked for hours about this book. There is an audiobook for this book narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal, he is perfect for Nick Carraway. This book is the save me meme for me.)
18. Bleak House – Charles Dickens
(Again. Charles Dickens summer.)
19. War and Peace – Leo Tolstoy
(Did I read this book after I listened to Great Comet? Yes. Did I read all of it? Also yes. Having done so, and legitimately liking quite a lot of it, I do recommend it if you liked Great Comet, because the detail you get to go into is great, and makes you feel like a huge nerd. Also, recommend for people who want a 55 hour long audiobook.)
20. The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams
(There’s an audiobook for this one narrated by Steven Fry. It’s also one of the funniest books I’ve ever read.)
21. Alice in Wonderland – Lewis Carroll
(Have I ever mentioned that I hate “it was all a dream/no one remembers” endings? Because I hate “it was all a dream/no one remembers” endings. I do, however, really like “person goes to a fucked up new place” stories. So I guess it balances out. The Cheshire Cat is on the list of characters I would commit war crimes to play.)
22. The Wind in the Willows – Kenneth Grahame
(Me and my brother both read this book when we were younger and for years whenever we hear the name of this one, or literally anything with the word “wind” or “willows” in the title we’ll go “is that the one with the mole?”, because we think it’s funny.)
23. Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy
(I was once in a book club with two high school English teachers, and two housewives. We all made the mistake of letting one of the English teachers pick first, and this was the first and only book that club was assigned, as no one but me actually finished it. Anyway, the 2012 film version is a fucking masterpiece and I don’t know why it’s not talked about more.)
24. David Copperfield – Charles Dickens
(Charles Dickens summer. I actually read Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver recently too, and that book is very very good, I would honestly say go read that one before this one.)
25. Chronicles of Narnia – CS Lewis
(My brother was very into these when he was like, 15, and I read them. They’re not my favorite, and honestly, many people who like them more have more interesting things to say about them than I do.)
26. Emma – Jane Austen
(I don’t know what magic Austen put into this book to constantly get the best film adaptations made of it, but my god she did. It’s a triple header too, because the Gwyneth Paltrow one is a perfectly good older style straight Austen period film. Clueless is probably my favorite of the “let’s do a high school AU of this piece of classical literature” genre, and Emma. (2020) is… just about perfect.)
27. Persuasion – Jane Austen
(This is probably Austen’s best book from a craft standpoint. It’s not my favorite of her works because of nostalgia I have for pride and prejudice, but… I mean, it’s the getting back together one, which is my favorite romance subgenre. Idk, I would recommend this one first to anyone who was asking me where to start with Jane Austen.)
28. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – CS Lewis
(Again. People who like this book more than I do definitely have more interesting things to say about it. That being said, the film version of this one fucking slaps, and if you haven’t recently, you should rewatch it.)
29. Memoirs of a Geisha – Arthur Golden
(This is a book that I think would have greatly benefited from being written by a woman. Or someone who grew up in Japan. Or someone who didn’t get sued for breach of contract and defamation of character by one of the geisha he interviewed to write this novel. Anyway, I recommend Mineko Iwasaki’s autobiography, Geisha of Gion.)
30. Winnie the Pooh – AA Milne
(I don’t have much to say about this one. I read, and then I read something else. This one wasn’t a cornerstone of my childhood like I know it was for a lot of people.)
31. Animal Farm – George Orwell
(One of my favorite books of all time. I read it for the first time at 14, and proceeded to read it 12 more times in two months. It’s a very fast read, and I had anti-totalitarianism sensibilities that were ripe for feeding.)
32. The Da Vinci Code – Dan Brown
(I’m not going to lie. I like the movie version of this one just fine. Read the book anyway. But, fun fact, when this movie came out I lived in Mississippi, and there was a campaign against my local library to get the book taken out of their catalog on the basis of blasphemy. So that’s wild.)
33. Anne of Green Gables – LM Montgomery
(In contrast to my last point, this is one that is just so light, and airy, and just reading it makes you feel good. It’s like a scented candle in book form. And no film adaptation is ever going be able to capture that, because it’s not about seeing the world with Anne in it as something shining and beautiful, it’s about how Anne sees the world as something shining and beautiful, and she makes you see it that way too.)
34. The Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood
(So, this book is great. We all know that. Now, onto storytime. Once upon a time in the 90’s, my dad got bored one day and decided to watch the 1990 movie version of this one, he didn’t know what it was about, but had heard that it was sci-fi, and had assumed it was some Star Wars for girls type thing. He was unprepared.)
35. Lord of the Flies – William Golding
(As a child, many elements of my life and behavior was compared to this book in a way that I, with my infinite understanding of social cues, picked up on the subtle fact that this was an insult. Thinking that I was somehow winning, I decided to read this book to prove… some point? And I ended up agreeing with the adults in my life, I absolutely was like that one kid who wanders off into the woods and is never seen again.)
36. Atonement – Ian McEwan
(I think one of my first posts on this blog was me reblogging gif sets from the film version of this.)
37. Life of Pi – Yann Martel
(Forever gate keeping Black Sails from people who think debating whether or not the tiger was real is important to understanding what the story is about.)
38. Dune – Frank Herbert
(I have been banned from talking about Dune around my family anymore after the time I got super wasted at a thanksgiving party my parents’s friends were hosting, and spent 35 minutes explaining Dune, with relevant facts about Frank Herbert’s life, to a woman who had mentioned that her husband has seen the newer one. She hadn’t even watched that one.)
39. Sense and Sensibility – Jane Austen
(This is my least favorite Austen novel. There’s some modern AU version of this that I read at one point that I don’t remember the name of, but there was this scene where the mom was standing on the beach and looking at golden retriever wondering if she could ask the owner for a clipping of its fur so she could show it to her hair colorist.)
40. A Tale Of Two Cities – Charles Dickens
(Charles Dickens Summer!!!!)
41. Of Mice and Men – John Steinbeck
(If I had a nickel for every 20th century American novel about a deeply strange little man who had to deal with the devastating psychological affects of his best friend’s death, I would have I would have so many nickels.)
42. Lolita – Vladimir Nabokov
(I think there should be a rule about watching the Kubrick film where, in order to see it, you should have to write a five paragraph essay about the original novel.)
43. Count of Monte Cristo – Alexandre Dumas
(This book fucking rocks. It is also my number one on list of novels that I think would most benefit from a podcast adaptation. Not like, a read-along, but like, a story based on the Count of Monte Cristo would kill it in podcast form.)
44. On The Road – Jack Kerouac
(I’ve read it. I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not it was before or after watching supernatural.)
45. Bridget Jones’s Diary – Helen Fielding
(So there’s a The Wombats song called “Kill the Director” where the bridge is just “this is no Bridget Jones” several times, and I wasn’t familiar with the reference, so I looked it up, and somehow managed to miss the, extremely popular, film adaptation, and thought it was just a reference to the book. I didn’t realize my mistake until I mentioned it to someone who didn’t know there was a book, and had assumed I was talking about the film.)
46. Moby Dick – Herman Melville
(This is like War & Peace, in that it is a brick and there should be an adaptation that’s just the last 90 pages. But also, I read this book after reading a book of essays called “Why You Should Read Moby Dick” which, convinced me to read Moby Dick. But yeah, you could give this book to aliens and they would be able to recreate the 19th century whaling American industry from scratch.)
47. Oliver Twist – Charles Dickens
(Charles Dickens Summer! Also, this is one of those books that was very obviously serialized and would probably benefit greatly from being presented in that format as opposed to in a novel, because it does drag on when it’s just one chunk.)
48. Dracula – Bram Stoker
(I’m not the biggest fan of epistolary novels, but hey, it’s Dracula. I’ve done it all. Every film adaptation? Yes. The Edward Gorey illustrated edition? Own it. Dracula Daily? Two years. Re: Dracula? Got the jumpscare of my life when Dr. Seward started talking because I didn’t realize Jonny Sims was in this.)
49. The Secret Garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett
(This book would have been greatly improved by less racism and more talking robins.)
50. The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath
(This book would be greatly improved by more people who read it understanding what an unreliable narrator is.)
51. A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens
(This is not a member of the Charles Dickens Summer club. I just read it one Christmas when I was like 8. Anyway, it’s hilarious and exactly what you expect. I also would have assumed that the coffin nail was the deadest nail of all.)
52. The Color Purple – Alice Walker
(Remember when I said that I don’t love epistolary novels? This is a major exception. Honestly, the number of list I’ve seen for contenders to the title of The Great American Novel, that don’t include this one is criminal. I also don’t know how so many people read it and don’t realize that it’s going to be dark as fuck.)
53. Charlotte’s Web – EB White
(Sometimes it’s very healing to read children’s novels as an adult. Just sit, and tear through a book in a couple hours. Any of Kate DiCarmello’s books, Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, Coroline, and Charlotte’s Web are all staples for me in that area. Because I read them all, over and over again growing up, and just, being able to go back to them and still find that magic is… really moving.)
54. Adventures of Sherlock Holmes – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
(I have the two giant complete annotated edition volumes. The one with the essays. I have broken bookshelves with them. And I got them for $3 at a tag sale when I was so small that I couldn’t carry both of them at the same time.)
55. The Little Prince – Antoine De Saint-Exupery
(This is the book that made me believe that I could write. This book broke my heart. This is a fundamental touchstone in my development as a storyteller.)
56. Watership Down – Richard Adams
(I liked this book. My brother Fucking Loved this book. My father was deeply scarred as a child by this book. I think that’s about the full range.)
57. The Three Musketeers – Alexandre Dumas
(Shoutout to those “Great Illustrated Classics” books that were in every library in the late 90’s/early 00’s. Those things were kickass. I don’t know if I would have read the full version of this one if it wasn’t for the Great Illustrated version I read when I was little. But whoever came up with the idea to just, take classical English literature and tell it exactly the same but in a slightly simplified version for a younger audience was a genius, and they deserve kudos.)
58. Hamlet – William Shakespeare
(I once read a post that opened with “spoilers for Hamlet” and… I don’t know if it’s possible to spoil Hamlet. Like, in America and England at least, it’s kinda baked in. Being alive is a spoiler for Hamlet. Also, can you spoil Hamlet, or is knowing what’s going to happen before it does is kind of part of the modern experience? I don’t know.)
59. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Roald Dahl
(I met up with my friends this summer and one of them didn’t realize this book had a sequel. Me and my friend who had also read it then spent the next five or so minutes verbally vague posting about plot points for the Great Glass Elevator to each other, and confusing everyone else, because that book is a fever dream. For that experience alone, I will recommend.)
60. Les Miserables – Victor Hugo
(If I had a nickel for every giant ass brick of a book that I actually did enjoy that included uncomfortable sexualisation of children under the age of 15 and far too much information about a specific city’s sewer system, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.)
