Look what you've let that man do to you. Your face is riddled with bird bites, your name's a punchline, and your career is five minutes from over, and he's only been your agent for three days!

Bebe's back!
"The Squash Courtship of Freddy's Father" really was the best episode yet.
Overall the Frasier return has been hit or miss. Out of all of the characters I like Alan, Frasier's long-time friend and fellow snobby Harvard professor, the best. He has the right ratio of differences and similarities to Frasier to be a good foil and an entertaining character overall. The writers gave him more depth this season, too.
Frasier's son Freddy is kinda-sorta in the Marty role. It works sometimes. Freddy's BFF Eve is the working-class character featured most often. She's okay. No shade on Eve.
Niles's and Daphne's son Daniel was supposed to be the new Niles. It didn't work AT ALL in season one. The writers seem to be trying to retool him in s2.
David is less annoying now, at least.
I wish David Hyde Pierce would return. AFAIK he has no interest. Oh well.
I keep watching for the nostalgia, Alan, and analyzing the show in general. Watching the ongoing experiment is interesting.

Match Review: Manchester United 3-1 Southampton
Diallo and Zirkzee save the day as a tepid United falter at home yet again - almost losing to the dire, last placers of Southampton.
Before I rip United a new arsehole, credit to Southampton for a spirited performance. They worked hard, and Mateus Fernandes and Tyler Dibling in particular caused us a lot of trouble.
Niceties over. Time to strop.
WHY ARE WE SO SHIT. JFC.
United started modestly but quickly showed their true colours: too slow, too predictable, too easy. Whether it's fatigue, or low intelligence, or disrespect of the bottom of the table team... you wouldn't have thought we were the expensive 'biggest club in the world' by a long shot.
A stunning Andre Onana double save kept United level early in the first half, and honestly proved why despite the last game's heroics, Onana is ahead (for now) of Bayindir.
The problem was why were Soton getting these shots off? Yoro had a stinker, and De Ligt and Martinez weren't much better. We give Maguire stick for being basic and uninspiring but at present I genuinely think he is our most in-form centre back. Not that these others can't play well, and they do play better, but consistency is key and at present we're all over the place. Unreliable to the max.
The stats don't lie, and disregarding the Ugarte own goal off a corner that gave Southampton their lead, the Saints had the better chances and the greater pressure - a damning indictment of the United team.
We were out-thought and outfought, and this is why the overhaul is needed. People will take time to learn things, but we also need the depth to be able to bench people and rotate others in to reward good form and remove the bad.
At half time we saw the introduction of Antony for Mainoo, with the Brazilian going to the right 10 and Bruno dropping into CM.
The problem is... it didn't achieve anything.
As Liam says below, Antony is a waste of a body in a shirt. I genuinely 1000% think any of our academy players would do more and be better than him for us. I don't even know if he'd be Championship quality. He screams a Bebe repeat to me, he's that ineffective, and the miss from Garnacho's pass to the backpost in the 59th minute... wow.
Again, with poor play though I don't blame the manager entirely. Hojlund ahead of Zirkzee felt silly, and was proven so with the Dutchman's introduction mid-second half. He was far more involved on the ball, with his passing, in his movement and hold up play... it's not classic CF stuff but he made himself useful. We can't carry passengers, and at the moment Rasmus feels like one.
Antony is also shit, and Garnacho probably should have buried Hojlund's pass in the first half, but other than that chance... it was a poor performance from the Dane and indicative of why the Glazer ownership - and that lack of long-term planning - has left us stuck. A striker pool of two, marvellous.
More subs came later, with Zirkzee on for Hojlund and Collyer on for Ugarte, and it did give United some more momentum and impetus. We looked more interested and up for it. Wild.
We did have a VAR fuckup moment too, so that was fun. When it rains it pours, etc.
The final subs of Maguire (for Yoro) and Eriksen (for Mazraoui) clicked United into gear and, with a bit of luck, Amad bundled past Walker-Peters, into the box, and fizzed home a low finish past Ramsdale to equalise for United with 9 to go. Game on.
If the first was lucky, Amad's second was pristine: a give-and-go pass with Eriksen from the edge of the box saw the wily Dane dink a chip into the box back to Amad for a first time touch at full stride, poking home to put United in the lead. SCENES.
The hat-trick we all wanted then came minutes later when a high press from both Zirkzee and Amad saw the Ivorian win the ball back from Southampton's last man for an easy finish past the keeper to seal the win and the match ball for Diallo. Hero of the night, adored by all. There is hope for the future despite how turgid we can be.
The last 15 minutes were a genuine joy to watch. The prior 81 were desperate and insulting. United performed like a mid-table team with nothing to play for on the last day of the season, and it stinks.
Maybe some of that is to do with transfer situations: Casemiro's not featuring, Rashford neither, Garnacho potentially under bid from Napoli... or maybe it's just they all need a fucking slap. Who knows.
As Joe-L says, United are only 12th in the league, and we needed some individual brilliance to get us three points against the worst in the league. We won't stay 12th, nor get higher than it, if we play like that in future games. Amorim's got a big task on his hands, but building a team around the likes of Amad and (an admittedly poor tonight) Mainoo has to be the strategy.
Next up: Brighton at Old Trafford, Sunday 2pm. Bogey team when we've been playing badly at home, yaaaaay.

Jess Watches // Wed 8 Nov // Day 50 Synopses & Favourite Scenes
Derry Girls (rewatching with mum) 1x06 Episode 6 (Season Finale)
Erin is over the moon when she becomes editor of the school magazine; Orla's obsessed by step aerobics; Gerry is in trouble with Mary; There's romance for Aunt Sarah.
Claire admitting she's the wee lesbian, even after having been beaten to the confession by Michelle, a huge fan of the fandango. And the gut punch of the end scene as the kids are having fun doing step aerobics, the adults are watching the news of a fatal bombing. Very powerful storytelling.
Frasier (with mum) 5x12 The Zoo Story (Mid-season break)
Frasier hires a new, ethical agent who plans to raise Frasier's profile by having the zoo name a new crane after him. Taking a different approach, Roz calls in Bebe Glazer, Frasier's former tough-as-nails agent, to represent her.
Roz revelling in the deal Bebe got and her overall idgaf attitude was excellent. And that she was constantly laughing at Frasier's misfortunes, as she should xd
A Business Proposal (with friend) Ep 5
As payback for being fooled, Tae-moo sets a trap for Ha-ri at a company event. But when she drunkenly apologizes, he has a change of heart.
He was so mad when he discovered her duplicity, but finally having the self-realization as to why he cared so much. Her cute little scurrying run in the dream sequence as she tried to manage being double booked. And her drunkenly passing out on the slide as it became too much for her. Also, the petty compliance of Youngseo as she vowed to not 'cross the line.' She is too funny.
Gen V 1x07 Sick
The gang learns what Shetty is up to.
Cate herself is a victim of all Vought/Godolkin's evil manipulations but to retraumatize Marie like that was majorly fucked up. I hadn't made the connection about Victoria and Marie's powers so that was an interesting reveal. Also, I would've loved to have had Neuman and Shetty in a scene together.

Oh I guess I was wrong 😅 I thought they were just recycling that old plot line from the original show where Bebe manipulated him into sleeping with her to get what she wanted 🤔 I was thinking that maybe she was doing it with her daughter but no! 😮 Apparently the grift was to make him think Rachel Bloom was his daughter? 😅

Next up: crack fic
After I finish my current WIP--only one chapter to go!--imma go for some crossover WBN crack partially inspired by @oddbunny.
Oddbunny had requested a fic from @midgardian-witch and mentioned the old sitcom "Three's Company" in the request. Not that the story would be a silly crossover, but I love silly crossovers--I've written a few--and was tempted to give it a try.
Last night my husband and I were kicking around story ideas, and he suggested putting Jack and Elsa in an episode of "Frasier," which was a spin-off of "Cheers."
I liked "Cheers" but ADORE "Frasier." The latter ran from 1993 - 2004. I've mostly seen it in reruns and now streaming. It's aged well. That's what well-realized characters and great writing and acting will get you.
Also? Harriet Sansom Harris--Verussa in WBN--played a recurring character in "Frasier." She was Frasier's cutthroat agent Bebe and stole every scene.
You bet that'll be a gag in the crack fic.

A long time ago, I had to make a choice between being a good agent and a good person, because trust me, you can’t be both! So forgive me if I don’t have time to make everybody feel warm and fuzzy. I am just too busy spending every waking minute, pulling any string, playing any shameless trick I can to make my clients’ dreams come true! I am a STAAAAARMAKER!!!

The same actress who played Bebe Glazer on "Frasier" played an evil genetic scientist on a season one "X-files" episode and it's kinda hard to take her seriously in that role now.

reblogging this just to say that it's funny pinpointing what storylines old shows were trying hard on and end up hitting the Fair For Its Day trope. like there are queer storylines on frasier that I'd feel would need tweaking if they were written today, but at the end of the day it did a much better job of portraying queer people as well-rounded individuals just living their lives; there's a reason it's so beloved by queer fans and it does a really good job considering it was written in a time before gay marriage was legal across the states.
all this to say - if frasier is Fair For Its Day in matters of queer representation, it's smack bang ahead of its day in its portrayal of Appalling Evil Women. it's ahead of our day. if frasier was written today I would bet there would be at least one episode which defangs bebe and insists that actually, no, she is human after all, there's actually softness and tenderness that she buries deep down - but nope, she's just awful. she makes deals with the devil. she marries old men for their money and then robs their corpses. she may or may not have dropped an air conditioning unit on a guy. she's the campest villain this side of disney. she is perfection.
‘there aren’t any well-written female characters who are deranged and evil and unapologetically self-centred out there’ some of you haven’t seen frasier’s (1993 - 2004) bebe glazer and it shows
