🍁Mabon Magick🍁

In many countries, the autumn equinox was a time to revere and speak to relatives that had passed over to the other side. This tradition now seems more akin to Halloween/Samhain but, as we slip into the autumn months and the light fades away, now is actually the perfect time to be looking at the darker side of life and thinking about the uncomfortable things from which we usually shy away.

While there is an element of darkness to Mabon, it is still firmly a harvest festival and is closely linked with apples and sweet fruit. Mabon, just like the autumn equinox that houses it, is a time of embracing balance in your life – welcoming in the dark and the light. To honour this, journaling your emotions can really help you get a handle on the change and juxtapositions that are occurring at this time of year.

Honour your ancestors by including photographs on your altar, making their favourite foods or visiting places you once went to together. This might be tricky, particularly if your loss is very recent, but finding light in the darkness can be a way of easing any sadness that autumn might stir up. 🍁🍁

☔️The Magick of Rain☔️

Nothing is more soothing than listening to the sound of rain on a dark October evening, remembering that rain is just as much a part of the wilderness as anything else.

There is great value in being exposed to the elements more often. We spend much of our lives in climate-controlled shelters, and can sometimes forget the symphony of a rainstorm on our tent, the beauty of silver raindrops jumping out of the lake, the excitement of a cloudburst from nowhere, and how quickly we dry out.

According to an old woodsman's adage "No matter how cold and wet you are, you're always warm and dry." If not warm and dry, perhaps we find that we are less uncomfortable than expected…and more appreciative of the sun when it shines.

Some believe the Witching Hour is the time of night when the veil between life and death is thinnest, allowing spirits and ghosts to travel between two worlds. Others believe that witches and psychics are more powerful at this time of night.

So what time is the witching hour? 3AM is commonly the accepted time, but some people consider the start of a new day, or midnight, to be the true Witching Hour.

The phrase “Witching Hour” was first recorded sometime around 1835, though the origins seem to be from a period of time in 1535 where the Catholic Church forbade activities during the 3-4AM window due to rising concerns about witchcraft in Europe. Witch hunts, demonic activity, exorcisms, and rituals have all become intertwined with the Witching Hour.

After emerging from this period of quiet, try and act upon what has come to you. It may involve dealing with a human situation, starting something or resolving an issue.

Whatever it is, when you follow the guidance that you receive in solitude, it will turn out to be exactly the right thing to do and it will usually work out far better than you could have imagined. Learn to trust yourself and develop the habit of listening to your intuition and then acting on the guidance received.

Winter is a time for reflecting and going inward, and … that not all spellwork is about instant results, but that there is great power in setting long-term intentions in winter and seeing them manifest in the spring."

Snow is water, and water is a feminine energy highly connected with the aspects of the Goddess. Used for healing, cleansing, and purification, Water is related to the West, and associated with passion and emotion.

Snow can be used for different purposes–for instance, wet, sticky snow gathered during a raging blizzard might be used in workings related to high energy and power. A jar full of light fluffy snow collected during a soft, quiet snowfall could be incorporated into a ritual for peacefulness and tranquility.
