Sinker cypress isn’t the first wood you think of when it comes to guitar tops, but Aaron is on a mission to show luthiers there may be more to the story. Some people asked about my wooden hinges so here is a close up. It is basically a finger joint. It shouldn't be very tight though. I also rounded up one edge of each piece to allow for the movement. Warning! WOOD PORN! Finishing up in the garage and taking some wood to storage. This is one of two 18"X 42"X 1" pieces of heart pine. First off, look at that grain...I mean LOOK AT IT! Second, this wood is HEAVY! These are the last two of the boards my mother had from my great grandparents. I don't think these were used in the house, but instead in an outbuilding. I've held on to them looking for the perfect project to do...still haven't found it yet. So they go to storage along with several other 12" and wider pieces of heart pine.
