Montney, BC

Montney is an unincorporated locality located in British Columbia about 15 miles (24 km) north of Fort St. John, near Beatton Provincial Park.

It lies at an elevation of 700 meters (2,300 ft), along the BC Rail tracks.

The settlement gives the name to the Montney Formation, a gas-bearing geological unit first described in a well located north-west of the hamlet.

The name of the town is an Anglicized form of an Indigenous name. The fact that the name is spelled the same as the Montney family name is purely coincidental.

Here’s a sneak of the new #TheUmbrellaAcademy #ApocalypseSuite portfolio I’m releasing in conjunction with the #enamelpin … VERY SOON! . This art is for the envelope that’ll hold the prints! When I was younger (in the 1880’s) and was working at a comic book store - comic book artists used to independently publish portfolios of their work. And like a dork, I collected a lot of them. Especially from artists like #JeffJones #MicharlKaluta #BerniWrightson #MikeZeck and #TimVigil I found the portfolios recently after unpacking some studio boxes and I wanted to do something similar to that - with a printed envelope and more! I’ll try to post the artists and their portfolios to stories later.#DeadlinesRuleEverythingAroundMe . It was a ton of fun to do this piece. I FINALLY tried out the @truegrittexturesupply #distresspress #beattones & #lithotone brushes I penciled and inked it manually but did the rest in photoshop. I don’t use brushes very often but these were REALLY easy to use - once I got out of my own way. I don’t know why I waited so damn long to try these out. . I also filmed the process and will post that as soon as I have time to edit it. . Floyd's Retirement Dream - Hawaii

When the neighborhood that Mailman Floyd Martin has served for decades learned that he was retiring, there was a fullfledged effort to make sure he knew how much everyone loved him and that to say that he would be missed would prove to be a complete understatement. Thanks so social media and a neighborhood friend who is also a reporter, his story has gone viral and even those who do not know Floyd want to honor him for his 35 years in public service.  This GoFundMe account will help him achieve his dream of going to Hawaii on a well deserved vacation. From Jennifer Brett, AJC on Twitter: Floyd Martin retires after nearly 35 years as a mailman tomorrow. I went with him on his route today. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1975 and took the postal service test a few years later. By the time they got in touch he already had a job at a bank, but the USPS offered to double his pay. "I was like, OK when you do want me to start?" Lorraine Wascher was waiting for him today. She's been a stop on his route for more than 20 years. "He always had a smile, always had a wave." Lots of the "mail" Floyd picked up today was hand-delivered. "My people are so good to me," he said. "I'm going to miss them." Kids on his route love, love, L-O-V-E Mr. Floyd. Little Mae Bullington dressed up as Mr. Floyd on the day her school had career day. "I was so flattered," he said. "It touched my heart." Floyd is a tall, slender, very fit 61. His job involves lots of walking, which keeps him in great shape. But he is done with the heat. In summertime, the mail truck is basically a rolling oven. Last summer, Floyd decided, would be his last. Floyd is the youngest of 4. It was his mom's idea for him to join the USPS. He's sad she's not here to see this send-off. Joyce Hardin's mother is on Floyd's route and said he totes her newspaper to the porch. "Thank you for taking care of mama, after daddy passed," she said. Floyd lives in Atlanta with his dog Gigi. It'll be a little weird to just receive mail and not deliver it anymore. "I'm just going to smile," he said. He doesn't have children, just the 500 houses worth of kids he spends 6+ hours with every day. He hopes to go to Hawaii one day. Morgan Beatton and River, 18 months, waited for Mr. Floyd today. As always he had treats for their dog, Sage. He said he'll come visit and attend events like Taste of Marietta. "I'll be back," he said. "Y'all are my life." Once his very last shift was finally over, the neighborhood had another surprise for Mr. Floyd. 300+ people came to a covered dish block party in his honor. Doreen Hipps, 87, has been on his route since the beginning. Her granddaughter Amanda Seals spoke on her behalf tonight. "Dementia has set in, and she doesn't see well anymore, but she still knows Floyd." There was a huge buffet set up with covered dishes people brought but I don't know if Floyd got a bite to eat or not .. he posed for a zillion photos! Floyd has seen his people through many of life’s changes. Some good, some bad. They’ve done the same for him. “You were there when I needed you, even if you didn’t know it.” Floyd said tonight’s sendoff was the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for him. His parting words: “Continue to take care of each other, and smile when you think of me.”

Charlie Lake, BC (No. 2)

Charlie Lake is a lake in north-eastern British Columbia, Canada, situated 8 km (5.0 mi) west from Fort St. John, along the Alaska Highway. The lake provides the water supply for the city of Fort St. John. The Charlie Lake Formation, a stratigraphical unit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin is named for the lake.

The lake is situated at an elevation of 700 m (2,300 ft). It is formed along the Stoddart Creek, a right tributary of the Beatton River, itself a major tributary of the Peace River.

Two parks are established on the shores of the lake, Charlie Lake Provincial Park on the west shore, and Beatton Provincial Park on the east shore. The settlement of Charlie Lake lies at the southern tip of the lake.

Follyglass : Carry

Every other month, Gray heads to the only cemetery on Prout’s Island. Though it would only take five minutes by car, she walks from her home and up through the Tonson’s field, all the while thinking about whether she’s ready for the day’s adventure, and whether anyone will take her up on her offer of carrying. Sometimes, nobody volunteers and Gray goes to the coffee shop instead for a bit of tourist watching.

Starting at the cemetery gate, Gray whistles a tune taught to everyone in the Order of Gheist, and she usually has to whistle the whole thing through twice or more, but today she’s only gotten to the tenth note before she hears the harmony being sung from the pines, beckoning Gray across the thyme and through the old black slate stones.

The one who calls, her name is Jerusha Beatton and she died in 1811. There exists no curdling sour scent, or feeling of being touched by nettles, so Gray puts on the Gheist carrier armbands - a signal to the living that she is occupied. When she whistles acceptance Jerusha’s spirit- what remains after decades of mercifully being stripped of her sorrow and strife - warms into Gray’s body. Contrary to what some might think, being possessed is not an unpleasant feeling, and Gray compares it to having just finished one of Mr. Stick’s whompin’ huge cinnamon orange rolls. Contentment. Full but not achingly so.

Usually, the dead want to see their home (if it still stands - they rejoice when it still stands- moreso when laughter rings through it). Or to visit with descendants. Or to see the view of the bay from the boulder, which is now part of the foundation to the post office so it’s not as magnificent as it once was, but the spirits seem happy enough. But on this day, Jerusha has want of none of these things. She wants to ride on a ‘purring candy-colored pony.’

It takes some figuring, but Gray believes she has figured out what exactly Jerusha wants, something that she has perhaps seen quite often from her resting place on an island often zipping with tourists. One problem exists, though, and that is that anyone carrying a spirit for the Order of Gheist are not permitted to drive. It was a hard-earned lesson. Instead, Gray sets through the side lanes in town and ends up at the Ivy-sided house: Meecy’s. After seeing the armbands, and hearing Jerusha’s request, Meecy pulls a scooter from the carriagehouse, apologizing for the dust.

They spend the afternoon - Gray and Meecy and Jerusha - rolling and diving and rising fast through the hollows of Prout’s island on a scooter the color of lemon drops, laughing the sunlight into stars. Both Gray and Meecy hope that someone will do the same for them someday, when they rest below the thyme.
