I want some mad scientist to strap me down to a slab for his experiments. He’s obsessed with the idea of the soul and how it can be connected - or disconnected - to the body and he sees me, an insecure woman who doesn’t quite look right or comfortable and knows that I’m perfect for what he wants.
I struggle against the straps on the operating table as he takes the very first step in the process - just an injection of a serum he’s concocted, the giant brass syringe gleaming in the gas lamps as the needle dives straight into the meat of my thigh. It pinches, but I take it. I beg him not to but he coos and assures me it’s all for my own good. He keeps me locked in the cellar in between injections to make sure his precious test subject doesn’t escape.
He makes meticulous notes, documenting the entire process of the change. Measuring the increase in density of my body and facial hair, the growth of my muscle mass, the lengthening of my clit as it begins to morph into a more cock-like organ. He makes sketches to illustrate the process of my Adam’s apple becoming more pronounced in my throat. And with all those notes he also documents how my attitude changes each day. How I go from begging to not be experimented on, trying to convince myself I like being a woman to slowly realising that the changes do feel good. I stand taller, smile more, look more comfortable in my own skin.
I no longer fight the weekly injections. In fact, I begin to look forward to them. The mad scientist starts to leave the cellar door unlocked, stops strapping me down onto the medical table, lets me wander around his house, knowing I don’t want to leave anymore. He brings me clothes so that I can dress exactly as any good gentleman in polite Victorian society should, abandoning the corsets and petticoats for morning suits and day vests. He brings me a razor with which to groom my unruly beard and helps me cut my hair into a more suitable style for a young dandy such as myself.
By the time he wants to test out the first of many surgeries on me, I practically leap onto the medical table - the sight of syringes, forceps and surgeon’s knives doesn’t frighten me anymore. It excites me. I’m practically begging him to operate on my chest, to finally sculpt it into the image of a man, and to let me see, no matter how painful the operation will be. I want to see me becoming who I really am in real time. The mad scientist can only smile as he obliges. He already knows his experiment to match a disconnected body and soul shall be a success.

OK quirky Bucky theory time. You ready? We never see Bucky clean-shaven after TFA. He always has a stubble, a bit of scruff around the chin or sports a proper beard as in Wakanda.
At first I wondered if our boy was just lazy or didn't have much of a self-grooming routine (obviously nothing in HYDRA days) but now I don't think its that at all.
I think that instead, on the rare occasions he does shave, his facial hair grows back absurdly quickly because of the healing factor of his serum. Like probably within a day or two.
So, whenever he tries to shave his body is like **damage is being done! I must heal this!!!** and goes into overdrive to grow hair back.
This must have been frustrating when he first escaped HYDRA, before he realized it was better to just let the stubble do its own thing.

This is a curiosity I often think about... Apparently Bucky's hair and beard length has been a bit unconscious over time...
I mean, Bucky was under HYDRA's control for 70 years, but his hair length only reached his neck, this is indicative that Bucky spent most of that time in cryostasis, which slowed down his metabolism and probably made his hair grow slower.
But I wonder what happened to his beard then? Why didn't it grow as long as his hair? Did HYDRA shave him? I really doubt that was the case, why would they do that? They have no reason to...
Now, we know that after CA:TWS Bucky was free for 2 years, but his hair and beard don't seem to have grown any longer. Is it just a plot hole? It's funny, but if you notice Bucky's hair is a bit longer at the beginning of CW, in the Bucharest fight, than in the Berlin prison escape. And this is for no other reason than because the Berlin prison scene was filmed before the Bucharest scene, and as the filming of the movie went on, Sebastian's hair grew. So, at the end of the day, the variation in Bucky's hair length in CW is a Marvel inconsistency...
Well, after this, Bucky was in rehab in Wakanda for 2 more years, and now his hair and beard seemed to grow consistently in this time.
It's also true that the rate of hair growth varies from person to person, for example Steve never had any trace of a beard apart from Infinity War, did he shave all the time? It's possible, or just that his hair grows slower than Bucky's...
But speaking especially of why there isn't a moment in TFATWS where Bucky is totally shaved, I think that just as in IW and Endgame Bucky hadn't cut his hair, this is a reflection of how he feels deep down...
His hair is intimately connected to the time of the Winter Soldier, and by that time (in IW and Endgame) Bucky still felt unsettled, he didn't feel recovered...
And as we saw in TFATWS, Bucky still feared that a part of the WS was still there, which breaks my heart because this isn't it... But the point is that maybe our boy never ended up readopting the look he had in the 40's because he no longer feels like the man he was back then.
It's not just like Steve said "the man he was froze 70 years ago and someone else came out in his place", the dissociation Bucky feels towards his past self is based on trauma and self-loathing, which makes this subject heartbreaking..
That's why I prefer your theory, it's not emotionally painful at least...

All the guys deciding to grow out their facial hair at one point and Davy’s like 🧍🏻. He tries, bless him but… well we’ve all seen his facial hair…
oh davy 😭
he tries so hard too. he’s like running around town looking for hair-growth serums and getting people to cast spells on him but everything just goes wrong or he’s told “yaknow, I think you just can’t really grow a good beard man” and then he looks over at the other guys with thick, full beards and curses his baby face.
davy’s rocking the strange goatee he had irl for a time, and he’s just like “I don’t want any more” and then sticks out his tongue and that works. Some chick tells him it’s ugly and he just crumples poor thing. but I mean at this point peter’s beard is crazy long hippie beard so davy isn’t the only one looking a little odd. Mike cleans his up and makes it look a little presentable, and then there’s peter in the background looking like a wild lion but still with his straight mop top hair on top. He loves his beard though, he sticks flowers in it :)
micky gets kind of sick of his beard and decides to shave it off and then davy finally has someone on his clean-faced side.

You cannot be against “gender affirming care” if you’re against cis men having viagra, gynecomastia surgery, hip liposuction, testosterone injections/supplements, beard growth serum, hair transplants, jaw masculinization, and many more medical treatments and procedures that help cis men feel “more like a man”
If it’s care that makes you feel “more like a man,” and you are a man, then it’s gender affirming care, because that’s literally what gender affirming care is.
Gender affirming care is not exclusive to trans people, they just happen to be more likely to seek it.
