Chilling on the Beach
After a busy few weeks there is nothing better than a stroll along a an empty beach. Traeth Bychan So itās back to Anglesey for the weekend and chill out time with our dogs on the beach. I love the light out here in the autumn. Everything seems softer in the sun and the autumn colours are just starting to come out.

He wasnāt sure whoād even brought the Ouija board ā Pat or Iris, maybe ā but heād laughed when Cilla had played like a fortune teller in Nightmare Alley, making a spectacle of the game, while George and Ringo and Pat all fell about, and Paul hadnāt been bothered then. Was deft in the language of ghost stories from stretched summers on the beach at Anglesey and folded notes during dull lessons at the Inny and fractured comedowns at the Bambi Kino where trying to spook each other with stories in the dark had somehow taken the teeth out of hungry and uncertain nights.
(Knew them maybe best of all for the way he could still hear A Christmas Carol in his motherās voice, her scouse lilt trimmed to something halfway proper as sheād folded him and Mike into her sides and played ghosts past, present and yet to come.)
-
George spells Paul's mother's name as a joke on a ouija board, and John and Paul connect in the aftermath.
-
For @ahumoroussuggestion for @beatleskinkmeme Secret Santa! I'm so sorry it's a little late, the holiday season swallowed me up for a minute, but I hope you like it! <3

I donāt know if you agree, but my painting "Paddle Boarders at Sunset in Porth Castell " felt like an appropriate image to share this weekend, as many peopleās summer holidays come to an end.
It was inspired by a photo by a lovely Facebook friend, who very kindly gave permission for me to use it as an artist's reference. But as I painted, I thought of those long summer days, when the weather is so lovely no one wants to leave the beach, and achingly beautiful sunsets are all the more moving for representing the end of our summer activities... till next year. The A4 (29.7cm by 21cm) unframed original is available for Ā£65 including UK postage or, if we live close enough for us to deliver, in a frame it's Ā£85. Please just private message me to arrange your purchase. It's also available in a mix of different types and sizes of prints, and printed on all sorts of lovely things (like bags, dresses, tops, scarves, homewares, gift items, etc) at:
Thanks! Sam aka LymphomaLass xx

17/06/2023-Cemlyn and homeĀ
Pictures taken in this set are of: 1 and 9. Sandwich Tern and chicks on as we often do for a standout place of a week away a second look at Cemlyn of the holiday before leaving for home to bring to an end the glorious week in Anglesey. It was amazing to get one last fix of that wailing lagoon of tern and gull calls, and be stunned to see notably more I think and bigger chicks than when we came on Sunday seeing a bit more of them too. Such a unique and enticing wild experience with these lovely birds. 2, 8 and 10. Arctic Tern and some Arctic Tern chicks, this species adding to that one last slice of spectacle I was so amazed to witness before heading home. 3 and 4. Nice scenes as the sun headed down when home tonight. 5, 6 and 7. Views on the last look of the distinctive winding beach and immediate and surrounding buildings of the beautiful Cemlyn.Ā
In the time at Cemlyn it was also good to see Common Terns, as expected and seen by us here before with the weather a bit less settled bringing them in a bit our closest views this week of mesmerising Manx Shearwater, Gannet, Little Egret, Oystercatcher and Mediterranean Gull. Red and sea campion, sea cabbage, thrift, one last look at yellow-horned poppy, mustard, honeysuckle and some agrimony emerged since Sunday were good plants to see. We got a good view of a Red Kite on the way back, as well as common toadflax as on the way, lovely poppy and as has become tradition on return journeys for June holidays for me in verges beside the A34 each time I recall - happening three years running now - delightful pyramidal orchids.

Newborough Warren Anglesey
One our favourite places on #Anglesey is Newborough Warren for its woodland walks, huge area of sand dunes and long gently sloping beach. The wildlife includes red squirrels, cross bills and an estimated 2000 ravens that come home to roost avert night in the woodland. This walk follows the beach as far as as the little island of Ynys Llanddwyn. Even when the beach is busy itās so huge itāsā¦

WALES COAST PATH // PORTHMADOG TO PWLLHELI ā 17Ā MILES
āWilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good breadā. āĀ Edward Abbey
The first section leaves Pwllheli along the Inner Harbour before cutting across the developed spit at Glan-y-don and follows the sandy beach at Abererch Sands for a number of kilometres towards the rocky headland of Pen-ychain. This is very much typical ofā¦

A trip to North Wales.
A couple of weeks ago, My Wife and I went on a weekend to Anglesey, North Wales, UK.
If you've not been, I would highly recommend it. It's one of those unspoiled corners of the British Isles and not very often spoken of as a holiday destination (probably so as not to attract the wrong people who may ruin it for others.
We stayed at a place called Benllech on the East Coast of Angelsey.
These are all shots from the beach area of Benllech, as i didn't grab some from the main town. It's a great little town with the main amenities, a few good places to eat and the beach is just so peaceful and stunning.
We stayed in a 1 bedroomed apartment in the main town, which we booked through Air BnB and it was absolutely spot on to be fair. Beautiful views out to the sea and all the feeling of a home from home (Big shoutout to Beth and Tom who host 'Island View', apartment at Benllech, Anglesey).
This was our morning view that we awoke to!!!
Whilst we were in Wales we visited a couple of recommended beaches and towns.
Penmon beach was on of those locations, where we had breakfast at the Pilot House Cafe, which was pretty decent.
Just be aware that there is a Ā£3.50 toll charge just to get through to the beach and cafe.
(One of the views from Penmon Beach above).
We got a trip in to see Llandonna Beach, which is just beautiful. Although on this day it was really windy. I decided to fly my Flexifoil Big Buzz kite. I was almost dragged off down the beach and had a fight with the kite for about 30 minutes before I'd had enough.
Brilliant, but it was probably just a little too windy! Check out the short video my wife shot below:-
On our way back on the Sunday, we called to Betswy-Co-Ed in the Snowdonia National Park. Just the drive there was lovely.
Parking was cheap, there were plenty of eating places and coffee shops/cafes to choose from and if you're into Mountain Biking, this is somewhat of a mecca for that. We mooched about, put in a short woodland walk, had a bite to eat then headed on to Llanberis, the town at the foot of Mount Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain.
The views surrounding Llanberis are simply stunning. If you visit the old slate mine, there is both a museum there and a Country Park, with a lake and little spots in the woodland to have a picnic. There were paddleboard activities, there was a go ape type adventure thing and a cafe or two.
If you walk 10 minutes back towards the train station you can catch the train up Mount Snowdon and a return trip is around Ā£35 per person. Expensive, but I've done it before and I'd say it's worth doing at least once.
So, all in all a really great trip and we crammed a lot in over that weekend. We will probably look to do a week there next time as there is so much to do and we want to Hike Snowdon next time.
Hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions, as usual, fire a comment in or contact me if you're a bit shy and don't want your comments seen.
I'm happy to give my opinion on the locations we visited, to share photo tips etc.
All the best and speak soon.
Regards,
Neil.

Prompt: fluff, Basira & Daisy meeting at an arcade or theme park
F L U F F
***
Basira had never thought too hard about their relationship. There was never anything that needed to be explicitly stated. Nothing to be clarified. It had always been understood that they had each otherās backs, and thatās all that ever mattered.Ā
When two outsiders find each other amongst the mess of brutality and violence that comes with being a sectioned officer, thereās something that brings those people together; something unquestionably strong. Whatever that bond is, it had found Daisy and Basira.Ā
She had never wanted to call it trust. Thatās not something she shares with anyone other than herself- not knowingly, anyway.Ā
Things have changed. The woman on the bench next to her isnāt the outsider she met when she was first brought into Section 31: delicate features hardened by the scar on her jawline and the ferocity in her eyes: hair cropped for practicality, shoulders squared through defiance. Now, that same Daisy leans forward in her seat beside Basira, growing hair falling into her closed eyes. Shoulders rounded, protective.Ā
Basira looks at the woman who has made herself small to survive.Ā
āEver been to Brighton,ā she asks. Her voice always makes questions sound flat.Ā
Daisy opens her eyes. She doesnāt respond immediately, instead, casting her gaze towards the grey horizon, ocean blurring into cloudy sky. The wind making her hair tickle her scars.Ā
āNo,ā she admits. A lot of what she says sounds like an admission, these days. āI havenāt.ā
Basira lets the silence sit between them again. A gap between their bodies that was always there, but that sheās only just now noticing. Itās a breezy autumn day, and the only people on the promenade are joggers and dog walkers. Nobody pays them any attention: two killers finding solace in their sea-torn landscape.Ā
āWhen-āĀ
Daisy falters. Basira looks.Ā
āWhen I was a child. Beforeā¦ā Her jaw clenches. And then she sits up, zips up her leather jacket and Basira sees some of that old steel return. āMy father would take us to Anglesey. Itās an island just off the coast of Wales. Nothing much to do, but the beaches would go on forever. Rocky beaches that hurt your feet.ā
Thatās the end of that story, it seems. Basira nods slowly. She doesnāt know this woman. Her strength had always been being able to read people, understand them. But she doesnāt know Alice Daisy Tonner at all, she realises.Ā
Sheād like to.
āHave you been here before?ā Daisy suddenly asks.Ā
Basira nods again. āYeah. Days out in Brighton were as much as my family could afford when it came to Summer holidays.ā
The sea roars distantly. A brown dog runs into the ocean to fetch a stick.Ā
āThereās an arcade here,ā she continues. āMy brother and I used to go. Weād get bored sitting on the beach.ā
Thatās probably the most sheās ever shared about her personal life with anyone. Bringing Daisy here- was that what she was planning? Some part of her wanting to open up? It seems unlikely. And she doesnāt want to think about it, not when she needs to be spending all of her energy protecting Daisy rather than showing her a good time. But then, seeing how Daisy is looking at her now in her peripheral, she finds her motives murky. The definition of what they have, murky.Ā
Then, looking Daisy square in the eye: āLetās go. You and me.ā
A deep, long intake of breath. āI donāt think thatās a good idea.ā
āPlaying shooting games in an arcade is hardly the same as holding a real gun.ā
āCould trigger something. Shark in an ocean. Catching a scent of blood.ā
āOr, could be like a nicotine patch.ā
Daisy blinks. She doesnāt smile, because Daisy doesnāt smile, but Basira does see the way the resolve falls away. And itās then that she realises that maybe Daisy doesnāt need to be hard in order to be strong; thereās a strength in being flexible, too. Being flexible means being less brittle.Ā
āAlright, then.ā She slaps her legs. āShow me the ropes, then.ā
So thatās happening, apparently. Basira leads them to the arcade; a tacky ruin of flashing lights and cash jingles. The carpets are a splurge of 90s train-seat patterns, the machines talking to no one but themselves. A family with two small children, trying to win a Minion toy.Ā
They stand at the entrance, suddenly aware of how surreal this is: partners, walking into an arcade to win stuffed bears. Basira expects Daisy to back out, sort of hopes she will, but then she sees her heading for a claw machine, unzipping her leather jacket and rolling up the sleeves. She casts her grey eyes towards Basira, expectant and, apparently, mildly entertained.Ā
āCome on.ā
This is the woman who likes listening to The Archers, Basira remembers. It makes sense that sheās cheesy when she wants to be. But why does she want to be, now? Who is that almost-smile for?Ā Ā
Basira acquiesces. She stands formally beside Daisy, who pops in a pound coin and takes the handle of the claw machine.Ā
āThe trick is not to try and get anything in particular,ā Basira explains, remembering her older brotherās wise instruction. āYou need to just go for it. Try too hard to get one toy and you wonāt get anything at all.ā
When she looks over, she finds that the look on Daisyās face is wolfish. Perhaps thatās a little off-colour, but thatās the only word Basira can think of.Ā
It takes three tries. Daisy runs out of change after the second one, and Basira pays for the third go. The claw is maneuvered carefully and strategically - Daisy was always better at strategy than Basira, who never liked planning - and it dangles slowly, descending into the pit of stuffed animals.Ā
When it emerges, it produces a tiger cup with giant, sparkling eyes.Ā
The toy clatters into the bin. Daisy fishes her hand through the flap and removes the tiger. They both measure it, dumbfounded.Ā
āWhat do we do with it now,ā Basira asks seriously.Ā
Thereās a pause where they continue to stare. And then she finds the toy shoved in her direction, Daisy disappearing before Basira can get a hold of it. She bends down to fetch it, looks up to see her partner skulking further into the arcade with square shoulders and a confident thud to her boots.Ā
Basira smiles.

Do you enjoy hearing what inspired a painting...?
"The View Down to Traeth Llydan or Silver Bay" was inspired by my birthday treat last year.
I'd seen a photo of Silver Bay on Facebook and really wanted to go there. But it's not easy to get to. It's near Rhoscolyn but there's no public parking at Silver Bay. Visits by car are not exactly encouraged, with the private road owned by the holiday resort, very tight country lanes approaching the bay and plenty of no parking signs all around.
But you can park in a layby near Rhoscolyn, which is what we did. When we were uncertain of the route, a friendly farmer with some holiday lets directed us across a field to a stand of pine trees, from the edge of which you get this magical view down the wooden stairs, down to this remote beach, across the sand, the bay and the Cymyran Straights to the main island of Anglesey.
It was the best birthday treat I could have imagined!
The A4 unframed painting is available for Ā£75, including UK postage, or framed for Ā£95 if it's feasible for me to deliver it to you. Please just private message me to purchase it.
Or it's available on prints and all kinds of lovely things at:
Thanks!
