What do you think about the current situation in Sweden in terms of handling covid-19? Im swedish but I live in Switzerland and have really not kept up with it enough. I check swedish news once in a while and read threads on r/svenskpolitik but I feel I have to take everything with a grain of salt bcus yea.. alternatively can you link to a previous post if you talked about it, or maybe you know somewhere I can better keep up with swedish news? A lot of newspapers are so hit and miss.

The short summary of Sweden is that 30+ years of austerity and gutting the welfare net has led to this covid-19 emergency being a hit the wall moment, where there just is not enough supplies nor capacities to deal with it proper.

Historically Sweden has always neglected its people too "in favor of" infrastructure and the economy. WWII Sweden let the nazis in, in the 90s we had the mega 500% interests that hit the people. Etc.

And that is what we are seeing now. Negligence from the government, and the main agency dealing with the response to this. At the moment, they do not say anything new to the people and the media, it is all inconsequential. This past month has just been a battle of yes and no'ing. No clear dictums beyond practising a voluntary social distancing, and keeping (note; forcing) people to go to work and elementary kids to go to school. The lack of proper response has led to a lack of belief of the seriousness of corona and in the wake most people just.... do not care.

I do not think this is limited to Sweden of course either. But it is distressing to see the lack of anything. I don't think more state power excursions is the solution either; it will just bring about more fascism.

My two main predictions for Sweden as of now are:

1. The government and agencies will continue to do next to nothing for another month or so, and let the deaths accelerate- UNTIL they hit their limit with public acceptance, and will force a shutdown of everything here........ just in time and place for the summer vacation season to start at the end of May/beginning of June. Perfect to tell people to stay at home when its good for the economy amarite?Remember, as I wrote in the above, Sweden has always maintained the protection of the infrastructure first, and give fuck all for the people next. So it will be a convenient shutdown over the summer months.

2. They will continue as they have done already and will not change their modus operandi. Even if casualties are sky high. A slow massacre. As it already is. Nonsense talks about the virus and vaccines and measures will be the upfront. Something along the lines of "yeah we have more deaths but it will do good in the long run", without even mentioning herd stuff. Ugh.

3rdly.

There is not just incompetence here. There have been reactions from sober scientists not totally drunk on the power of controlling people's lives- and that is the third possible response that most likely will not happen- measures against corona that are based on virulent studies and common sense. The media here have portrayed some of these voices but it has mostly become a public stunt of X vs Z. The different agencies response(s) have already been outed as failures several times in the past few months and the public outrage has been minimal. It is surreal to that extent. People cannot commit to this as a serious event. It is all spectacle.

As for what to do to keep up to date on Sweden... weirdly enough I feel the media is pretty accurate in saying what the Government is NOT doing. So I guess that is my advice there.

Sweden is a burning fascistic impotentent hellhole right now.
