I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.

I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.

If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.

And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

Scary made Taylor play the guitar for her first songs and paid him in snacks.

They swap earrings and band shirts on regular basis to the point sometimes no one knows who owned a shirt originally.

A Defense of Willy Stampler

Willy Stampler is such a tragic and misunderstood character and I think more people should talk about it.

I mean first of all, I think that his fear of water says so much about him. He died by drowning. And now he's alive again. His need for power and control makes so much sense, because of course he wouldn't want to die again. But water is something that is symbolically often uncontrollable. So he tries to compensate for this fear by making himself as powerful as possible. And really, who could blame him?

And everyone always likes to say that his treatment of the kids was bad but can we honestly say that he did any worse than the dads did? Sure, he forgot to feed the kids, but he had a lot on his plate! He was trying to prepare for the dads showing up and attacking, so he can be forgiven for it slipping his mind. And the kids hadn't been hungry for long enough that it caused physical problems so they were fine. You're gonna tell me that Ron never forgot to feed Terry? Give me a break.

Speaking of Ron, do you know how hard it is to raise an autistic child? Nobody gives Willy any credit for how long he held out with Ron. You get into a relationship and have a child because it's expected of you, and you at least have the thought that, hey, maybe your kid will be cool and you'll be able to get along when they get older. But then he ends up with an annoying little brat like Ron? I mean, it's no wonder he made a bad decision in a moment of lapse in judgment. Everyone makes mistakes.

And then he gets locked in a pocket dimension for what feels like an eternity for him. That's such a disproportionate punishment for his supposed crimes. Tell me: what exactly did Willy do wrong? Yell at a few people?

Everyone talks about how emotional Henry's anger issues are but nobody gives Willy the same grace. He has small outbursts, but he doesn't let the anger last! He wants to seem in control of the situation, which goes back to my initial point about his need for control due to the trauma he underwent.

And speaking of the other dads, killing Glenn? Let's be honest, Glenn wasn't gonna live much longer anyway. His will to live was basically zero. Really, Willy did him a favor. And it worked out for him, right? He got to go to Hell with his kid! It was the best possible solution for Glenn, so really, he should be thanking Willy.

The only member of his family that ever recognizes and accepts Willy is Scary. Sure, she's several steps removed from him, but his willingness to reach out to a member of his family even after the awful experiences he's had with Ron and Terry and everyone else shows a level of bravery that nobody ever talks about. He's still willing to give Scary a chance despite it all. And she betrays him in the end! What an ungrateful brat. And once again Willy is left alone.

And his need for control drives him to take over Heaven. If he's God, nobody can ever hurt him again. Water has no power over literal God. And sure, he wants to kill all the people who opposed him, but who wouldn't? How can he be safe without ensuring they can't get revenge upon him?

And revenge they get. It's so tragic that, in the end, Willy is killed. Not just that, but he's literally pissed on. It's like the cast had no respect for the tragic and emotional and nuanced character they had built up in this world. I can't relisten to the podcast knowing the fate of Willy, it makes me too upset.

Anyway. Justice for Willy, the best character in the entire show. He deserved so much better, and he deserves more love.

I am one bad day from writing an AU where Lark died in that pyramid rubble.

Where Henry has to live with the guilt of not being able to save his boy. Has to go home to his wife with only one of their sons.

Where Sparrow lives with the guilt that it was practically a coin flip. He could have been that one in the rubble that day.

I think in this AU Sparrow would have named Normal "Lark" after his brother that didn't make it out. Would have been more protective almost to the same level as Grant is about Normal.

Still would have gotten the name tattoo only instead doing it on himself or having Nicky help him. Maybe Walter sees what he's doing and doesn't have the heart to make him stop it.
