i'll believe in her faux moral superiority when i see her record of the great war. has she never killed or harmed an innocent person to save herself? never torched any fields? never lied and stolen? never killed a medic/healer? i don't frankly believe that she hasn't. she's shown she will do whatever she can to achieve her end goals, including using and throwing away people like malborn who have no means to defend themselves and have everything to lose by helping her.

i love evil bad women who do bad things. i hate delphine because she is a badly written hypocrite.she is uninteresting and dull and the only reason the creators and some fans side with her is because they uncritically accept the idea that elves and dragons and any non-human species on nirn are morally corrupt and deserve all the suffering they are put through by humans. she would do the same things paarthurnax has done for a dragonborn emperor and do so gladly, saying it's different because the end goal is a dragonborn ruling over everything and making everything "right" in the world (by giving her power and acclaim in the form of the blades)

every intelligent life has great capacity for evil and for good. the very same drive to conquor dragons feel can even be used for protection, as seen in akatosh and paarthurnax, as well as some emperors. even still, actions driven to protect can harm countless other people because there is always a capacity for harm and to ignore that is to become complicit in that harm, thus turning it into evil. because evil is not a capacity for harm but a blind acceptance of it for your own gains.

the people who were harmed by paarthurnax forgave and celebrated him. they have protected him and both learned from and taught him. in that sense, he has atoned for his sins because the very people who were harmed by him and lost loved ones to have have accepted him when they could have hunted him down like theyve done to every other dragon. in that sense, how is anything we do to kill him thousands of years later "justice" when we have no capacity for the harm he's done? will killing him bring anyone he's harmed back? will it truly stop him from hurting anyone in the future? if we kill anyone with the capacity for harm, that means we have to kill everyone we come across. how is that just? how is that good?

this game fucking sucks for asking morally complex questions and then having the most dull and uninteresting non answers to it. you cant kill delphine because the answer is supposed to be she's right because shes a human who supports the old empire and anyone who stands opposed to that goal is bad and wrong. well the old empire fell because hes no longer needed in the world and she needs to get over it. martin septim's sacrifice made certain of it. why do we have to chase the glory days of a fallen empire to make things "right" in the world? the septim empire was fraught with much pain and suffering and crimes against humanity. who are we or delphine for that matter to decide that suffering was good and just? what truly makes our potential destruction and conquering of tamriel any more morally good than alduin's?

There is so much discussion rn Abt romances in Avowed n how in pillars the romances were bad and RPGs need romances yadda yadda and honestly it's kind of crazy...

Like saying that they are going to lose out on players is probably not true bc if you are a type of player who plays RPGs for the romances then I don't think you are or ever were the target audience for this kind of rpg or pillars of eternity to begin with. Like ik sorry if this sucks to hear but pillars was always a story more focused on an old-school type adventure where you find out the secrets of the world while also being a game that builds upon this rpg legacy and tries to improve on the general ideas while at it.

Tbh to me it's a bit strange ppl are either like UGH I won't play this trash bc no romances!!! Vs. UGH you can just make up headcanons Abt romancing npcs like ok I suppose you can do this but why not just let a story speak for itself once it releases and why not interact with the narrative and setting.... Like pillars has a crunchy and rich fantasy setting you can get lost in imo and the writing of previous games was very good and ambitious. These games do interesting stuff with the basic fantasy premises and tell relatively focused stories about a couple of intertwined themes.

I think it's telling of the current social climate around RPGs (on Tumblr) that romances are dominating the discussion this heavily. And before you I get accused if anything no it's not "bad" to like romances. Romantasy especially is an incredibly popular genre of fiction. And it's popular for a reason.

But like what's weird to me is how so many ppl just very loudly dismissing a game that looks good so far just bc of no romances. It's like do you critique other games like this too? Do you want like idk Balatro to have romances in it too?

Personally I'm glad there are no romances. And it's not bc i don't like rpg romances (I do love them) or bc i think the romance of deadfire were lackluster (they were fine and fit the vibe of the game). Im glad bc that means the ppl who made this thing probably focused on the things they actually wanted to make and hopefully were passionate about. Playing games where you can feel that passion and which are not just churned out to be popular for popularity's (and money's!!) sake to me always feel more impactful and charming like that's the "good stuff".

Ofc Avowed is super fucking expensive even shockingly so. I can only hope some of that money goes to obsidian and not all of it gets drained into the pockets of EA. I also hope that the same kind of passion n ambitious writing we can see in pillars 1 & deadfire will be still here, but I won't speculate (yet) since I haven't seen the game (since it's not out). I think tempering your expectations about a game is a smart thing to do IG lol.

To be fair the marketing of this game is a mess already. And the pillars games were never rly super popular to begin with so ik a lot of ppl are confused and might be getting the wrong idea. Also we are off of the back of bg3, which was a game strategically focused on romances and characters even when it made the overall narrative suffer. It was also very popular (and a good game!) so it gave a lot of ppl (esp ppl who did not particularly played a lot of RPGs or video games in general) the idea that THIS is the "blueprint" for an rpg. But the thing is it is not.

Honestly I just don't rly get the scorn for this game lol. Idk. Temper your expectations and if a game is not for you then you can just say that n move on. Ofc it's good to be critical (I'm a hater too I get it) but idk msging random ppl who are excited Abt avowed about how you think this game will suck ass is perhaps a bit too much.

I did one of these a while back, but with reeaallly low-quality images. These days, there’s more Amethyst stuff out there, and that’s worth an update in its own right.

High jump-through-portal fantasy. Fantastic creatures, creepy villains, magical royalty, intricate world building that explains some things and lets your brain fill in the gaps for others, and consistently gorgeous art. Can’t recommend enough.

II. 1980’s 16-issue Ongoing Series (+ follow-up Annual)

While there is a lot of fantastic stuff going on with the ongoing series, it is more of a mixed bag.

While I am forever in love with cover of issue #11, I remember turning to page 1 and wondering what the heck happened to the inside art. It’s not bad, really. It just doesn’t meet the high bar of the covers (or earlier interiors). Looking back, I realized the art was getting less detailed well before that, but my reading was all over the place as a kid bc I’d just read whatever issues I could find.

This here, at issue #12, is actually a good place to stop. By which I mean, the next 4 issues + special reek of grimdark edge-lord bs that doesn’t even make sense without reading Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, if you wish to proceed…

The final issue of the ongoing is technically a cliffhanger, and the Special grants the writers the extra pages they need to finish wrapping up their whole Lords of Order & Chaos/Dr. Fate tie-in.

After this, someone in DC editorial raised their pencil and went “Hey! What if we made the Gemworld the origin for one of our Legion of Super-Heroes villains?” And thus…

III. 1980’s 4-issue Mini-Series

This thing is all kinds of whack, but it is gorgeous. I get the impression that when Kieth Giffen and Mindy Newell were assigned this sucker, they just read a summary of the OG series and winged it.

Probably not, since they technically wrote those final issues of the ongoing, but that’s how it feels. Despite this, it’s grown on me like a fungus, and the mind-blowing art by Esteban Moroto is, like, 98% of the reason why.

Amethyst is always at her weirdest when Dc is trying to tie her in with the rest of the DCU. In this case, the mini is supposed to explain how a Legion of Super-Heroes villain has origins that go back to the Gemworld. Why? Idk. But if I remember correctly, it was even part of the advertising for this series.

IV. 2012’s DC Nation Amethyst Cartoon Shorts

In hindsight, these may have been made as the advent of the Sword of Sorcery series, but they really were a charming sip of water after two decades of nothin’. A cute lil’ standalone series that turns the Gemworld into a video game. Amy is then, of course, sucked into it.

Fun fact: the producer, @briannedrouhard is on tumblr, and often posts art and further ideas she had for the series.

IV. 2013’s Sword of Sorcery: Amethyst

This New 52 eight-issue (9 included the ‘0’ issue, oy) series got my hopes up after all those years, but I gotta admit I was a bit disappointed by the completely new supporting cast. Apart from Amy herself, none of the original characters made it into the series.

It feels likely a completely different fantasy series with an “Amethyst” label slapped on it. That said, Aaron Lopresti’s art is beautiful, and this version of Amy—Amaya—eventually joined the New 52’s Justice League Dark and picked up a bit of a cult appreciation over there.

That said, I’ve had some spoilers for her time on JLDark, and the storyline is just a bit… too… dark for my tastes. So I’m quite content to see her nu52 series retconed, even though I did nearly collect all 9 issues.

V. 2019’s Wonder Comics - Young Justice: Gemworld

Remember how I said Amethyst always gets weird when she collides with the greater DCU? Yeah, forget I said that. Never mind. Most brilliant combo idea since peanut butter and jelly.

No, I’m not biased not at all bc I’m a big Young Justice fan. Nope. Ok. Maybe a lil’ bit. While the continuity here is it’s own thing, there are a lot of nods to the original Gemworld in the world-building.

Does this series fully explore the potential of all the ideas in it? Frankly, no. YJ fans complained a lot about the lack of breathing space in this series for a reason. But I’m still happy with it and happily re-reading it for the fun ideas it slaps together.

If you are reading this for the Amethyst, however, there isn’t much point in reading past issue 6, aka volume 1 of the trade. After that point, Amy stops getting much spotlight, though she remains on the team’s roster until the series’ end.

VI. 2020’s Wonder Comics - Amethyst Miniseries

The fact that both this series and the YJ one appear under the “Wonder Comics” label is a bit misleading. They do not share any continuity at all. However, the opening splash page of the first issue references multiple events from original Amethyst continuity!

Later world-building details make it clear that this is a different version of Amy and the Gemworld, but Amy Reeder’s affection for the original series remains apparent.

VII. 2021’s Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld by Shannon & Dean Hale

This one is actually a kid-oriented graphic novel. Again, with its own continuity and world-building. I think the thing that stands out to me the most about this take is that the Hales give Amy a kid brother and make him quite relevant to the plot.

It’s pretty stand-alone and not really marketed as a comic book per se, but it is charming and the art is quite cute.

i have so many things to say about how the android revolution was handled in dbh, especially how most of the conflict was around markus’s choices to be violent or peaceful. idrk how to phrase it all but like. ugh it just bugs me how the androids Have to be peaceful and cooperative in order to gain freedom

a huge part of the revolution is ‘we can’t stoop to the same level as the human’ and it makes me so mad. like yeah sure, murder and hurting ppl isn’t good. but protests for rights have never been peaceful. you don’t gain rights by being peaceful and perfect. i just hate it so much. plus, the game has obvious parallels to the civil rights movement (even if david cage says it’s not. it is. even if it wasn’t, this game is political no matter how u view it. the topic of rights and freedom will always be political) and to imply that the android revolution has to be near perfectly peaceful to succeed is crazy. girl does he think the civil rights movement was entirely peaceful?? someone put him and all the other writers in a god damn history class

not to mention markus. i think the writers saw him as like the equivalent to mlk jr, with the parallels to the civil rights movements and such, which is crazy considering they turned him into their Savior and led the whole movement. like. side eye. idk i love markus’s story, but i think the whole revolution and being turned into a savior robo jesus was so so bad and tone deaf (thank u david cage..) . and the whole revolution TOOK PLACE IN A WEEK. A WEEK. THATS INSANEE. A WHOLE REVOLUTION IN A WEEK IS INSANE. i understand that a game needs to end but we don’t need to see Every Single Second of the story!! spread it out over a month, give characters time to form relationships, let the plot thicken, let things get tense, let things simmer and develop!!! not everything needs to happen on screen!!! one of my biggest gripes about the game is its timeline </3

i know i just rambled a bunch but god it annoys me so much. markus’s story was done so wrong for so many reason, and as a queer person who’s largely interested in protests and movements for rights and such, it just makes me so mad how badly and idealistically it was created. it feels like it was written by humans, by OPPRESSORS, dreaming of a utopia where they are still good people. :/ which i suppose it IS in a way — but still u get my point

i hate how north’s violence and anger is seen as a bad thing. i hate how markus never gets a moment to rest or interact with people outside of conversations that love the plot forward. i hate how jericho just accepts that they’ll die before they’re violent in order to ‘win.’ i hate that ‘winning’ is even a thing in this context. i hate that androids constantly have to be better than humans and not stoop to they’re level. according to these writer, they can’t be angry in the face of their oppression and that SUCKS.

when i played this game with my cousins, we were so desperate to make every pacifist choice in order to raise our public opinion so we could win. we could tell from the first few markus scenes, he wasn’t allowed to be angry or mad or hateful or violent if he wanted to have close to the same respect humans got. and that SUCKED. it made us feel like we were just taking hit after hit after hit and never accomplishing anything.

i love this game and i love markus (he’s probably my fav character) but the way the revolution is handled is awful considering how it’s such a metaphor for oppression and oppressed ppl. it’s not even rlly a metaphor — it’s just direct symbolism. like. androids are oppressed yet the only way they can fight back without getting murdered and ran down is by being entirely peaceful. there should have been a Balance. you should have valences the violence and the peace in order to get a good outcome. not all one way and all the other way. the game also should’ve been longer than a WEEK. bc that’s rlly a huge issue with it.

outside of maybe the kiss with north and returning to carl’s house/grave, markus doesn’t get a single moment to exist without the revolution and the plot. even those two scenes kinda serve the plot. meanwhile, connor gets moments like looking through hank’s desk, breaking into hank’s house, talking with hank on the bridge to develop his character and relationships outside of the plot. markus doesn’t get that (kara kinda does? but instead of being tied to the plot, she’s just tied to kara the whole time, which can be just as bad).

markus’s friendships never felt… real? they largely felt like it was just bc of all the jericho stuff and the revolution. all his friends just served a narrative purpose. north was the violent choices, josh was the peaceful choices, and simon… well i’ll be honest, simon died rlly early in my play through so i barely knew him. but from what i’ve seen, he’s the ‘cowardly’ route. honestly markus and simon’s friendship seems the most realistic since simon is constantly sacrificing himself for markus and such. which is saying something considering north is markus’s love interest (and that came out of NO WHERE)

with markus and north’s romance, it feels so forced. not to say i hate norkus, but it’s so fast and sudden and u can just Tell it’s for plot reason — which is proved by the kiss at the very end of the game. they had no time to get to know each other or form a relationship outside of the android revolution and keeping jericho together and alive. it gives the vibes of ‘in 2 months we’ll realize we were just in a relationship because he felt we had to be, not because we liked each other romantically’ which, i’ll be honest that vibe is awesome, but considering that was Not what the writers were going for, it falls very flat.

all in all i love markus’s story but by good did the writers fuck it up. get me behind the pencil, i’ll do it myself

Explained in this post, anything not directly stated in TPB is free game for me. I am a very big mythology nerd, so I allowed myself to add some stories and rituals that can fit inside canon.

One thing I've noticed is how often Lionclan and Tigerclan and Leopardclan are brought up in the first arc. And how seemingly ever following arc seemed to drop the premise entirely. I always thought that was such a shame because there were SO many interesting things you could have done with that concept.

In this fictional land the clans live in (not britain), big cats emigrated up north, eventually becoming the wild cats known now. (At least this is what the clans believe). Cats with lion/tiger/leopard traits are held in high esteem, and NOT naming a kit with these traits those names is seen as very weird ad probably a bad sign for the cats life.

There are no stories about specific big cats, they've just been relegated to specific stereotypes and roles for whatever narrative the elder needs to tell. It's like in certain folklores that use animal characters. The fox is always sly, the mouse always scared, the bear always tough, the owl/crow always wise.

Tigers are bold, strong, but also clever and quick. They are NOT 'the bad ones' who the writers equate with Shaowclan, because that is bad and sucks. Tigers are actually (irl) incredible swimmers, so Shadowclan AND Riverclan hold them in the higher esteem.

Lions are what inspired Thunderclan's somewhat unique and very intense ideal of 'nobility'. The 'kings' who do good by all, leading without question. In an older age, Skyclan held lions in the higher esteem as well, though that has long since faded. They are still basically Thunderclan's mascot to this day.

Leopards are beloved by Riverclan and Wndclan. While strong, they are not AS strong as lions and tigers, so Thunderclan and Shadowclan tend to brush them off. Leopards were rumoured to be fast as the wind, and favoured intelligence over raw strength.

The Old Clans, as the are known, are often put down by the older apprentices as being 'kit tales', but elder warriors know the wisdom these stories hold. Due to the vague nature of the stories, many older cats question whether or not they hold any truth, but understand the importance of these stories and know to let them be.

As for whether I, the author, have decided if they are true or not, well, I'll never tell : )

For me, personally

I do think ulder loved wyll. And i think he ess a damn good dad. And I think that ulder is a fascinating character because he is a poet himself. Wylls father really did say all those things. Wylls father is described in descent to avernus as "noble" "valiant" but true neutral, whereas everyone else was lawful evil, including the flaming fist. He says terrible things to wyll. But when wyll first shows up with mizora. He just says "go." If wyll had sold out the city to a devil for power, that would have been practically a kindness. He only says this shit to eyll when he's a full grown adult. And while that doesn't make it right. It doesn't mean that when he switches to lovebimbing wyll and telling him how great and special and good he is. That he doesn't mean it. Or that he hasn't said it before.

And he says truly beautiful things about his son. He really and truly believes he's thr heart of the gate now. even tho ur the one who did most of the work LOL.

Even in murder in baldurs gate, which, tbh, is not entirely canon to the video game tho pick and choose ur own canon, that's what dnd is about, he is a man with DREAMS, who is so passionate and valiant he gets swept up in things. He loves pomp and circumstance. While he's not a fool---he believes in heroism, and goodness, and rewarding goodness and not suffering fools

And yet even tho when ulder held wylls In his arms and claimed he felt a distance from him. He still took wyll fishing. He still taught wyll to fight. He encouraged him to get into fights and flirt. He trusted him with important tasks.

Ulder believes in legends and heroism. He believes in balduran, he believes in the good in baldurs gate. And even moreso than wyll, ulder has seen the absolute worst of baldurs gate, and yet still knows what it can be

He knows the upper city sucks. He knows ite full of crime. He probably even knows the flaming fist is useless without him--and he takes pride in himself and his work and the city. In descent into acernus, there's a passage about how he's never happier than when he's giving a long, rousing speech to his men.

Ulder thought he was going to be the hero that saved baldurs gate with the legend of ansur. Other people said it was a myth. But he believed

There's also the wishing tree. How does wyll know the wishing tree was his mother's? Or what she said about it? Ulder told him that. He doesn't mention a single other relative or flaming fist. Ulder, ulder, ulder. With his repetition, and his speeches, and his beliefs and all his sayings that wyll took completely to heart---despire knowing as an adult now all the concessions his Father would have had to make to "cavort with monsters and devils," the kind of people his Father trusted him enough to complain to

The tragedy of wyll and ulder isn't that ulder is some irredeemable monster. It's that every parent is flawed, and ulder has made so many concessions in his life to protect baldurs gate, do what is good for baldurs gate, that while wyll was doing everything in his life for his father, and his father alone---ulder was still doing everything for this city hes devoted his life to. Because he believes in this broken system and his broken ass corrupt flaming fist more than he believes in his own sons innocence

Wyll believes in fairy tales bc his father believes in fairy tales and he loved his father, his father was his world, and even at 24, he's not ready to admit his father was wrong or made mistakes. Even when he says people like his father---politicians---are always making mistakes, lol.

They were close. And his father loves him. And that makes what mizora did all the more evil and despicable. Ulder may have given up his son---but he also lost him.

Could you forgive urself if u lost a child that was so good, and sweet, and loved you as much as wyll loved ulder?

Mizora tricked them both. She knew what she was doing. She was isolating him. On purpose. That's what abusers do!!! They make you rely on them. They take away all the good people and good things in ur life until ur left with nothing.

unimportant rant i need to get off my chest and throw to the void bc i think my friends are tired of hearing me complain lol but i think the thing about the tag search that gets me is how disheartening it is to even FIND other people's characters within a certain tag now. i do understand where its good in the sense that any "new" ocs wouldve automatically been first with a chronological search burying others that have been there for years, but im looking in a specific fandom tag and ill have to refresh the page 2-3 times sometimes just to get a new set of characters. which i know there is a lot of ocs in the tag too its not one with like 5 people it just feels incredibly limiting? like its just rng at this point and i have to wonder how many cool characters are being buried underneath the ones ive seen 5 times in the last 7 refreshes. and (admittedly my very selfish) other thought is wondering will anyone see my characters either. (i dont think so highly of myself that im assuming if someone sees my ocs theyll draw them, but it feels like there isnt even really a chance anymore for that to happen) literally a test of patience now also it kinda sucks for those of us that dont use the discord or have a social following or something. i know the easy answer to this problem ill be told is just "apply to hitlists" or "talk in the discord" but i dont want to have to play a social game and navigate a place people are always complaining about for good reason or do basically oc job applications (and i dont think anyone should HAVE TO) just to have their ocs found on the actual website. that they submit them to. and tag to be found. for people to be able to find and view and draw. i do intend to attack people first (and i dont expect revenges back or anything like that, i know that the point of artfight is to have fun drawing other peoples characters and i absolutely will even if i get 0 art in return) but thats not the point. it just feels bad you have to jump through hoops to even find other characters to have fun drawing and giving people art in the first place. straight up miserable to get to the fun part at this point. not gonna let it ruin it for me but i get frustrated every time i go looking to find ocs i want to draw (and im always proved right because i keep finding new ocs when i check on different days so im sure im still missing more)

My main issue with the lack of promo is that I just don't get why they're doing it? Or rather not doing it. Like why is there NOTHING? Yes the show is probably cancelled (I am still in denial) we get it but it's still running on your channel? And also not just any show but one of the most successful ones. And the rationale part of me understands why they do more for the surf show. It has no fanbase yet and never will have bc it fucking sucks and hopefully will be cancelled after this first season so it needs a bit more support right? But there was literally one day where they did FIVE posts about the surf show within 24 hours??? And I was like this is insanely excessive?? So I understand from a marketing perspective that there needs to be done more for that show but fully dropping Lone Star and tbf any other fox show as well just doesn't make any sense. The official Lone Star account has a thick layer of dust covering it at this point and what happened to that one social media manager whose name I unfortunately forgot but who seemed to have been obsessed with Lone Star and who did the Tarlos games with Ronen and Rafael for example? Like she was seen on set a couple of times while they were filming but nothing Lone Star related was ever posted. Was she fired or already appointed another job when the cancellation was official and all the promo material left with her?? I just don't get it. What brings me great joy though is that even though the Lone Star posts are rare they ALWAYS outnumber any other post by the thousands when it comes to likes and comments and I hope it's a slap in the face of whoever is responsible for the social media accounts.

Your guess is as good as mine, anon! FOX and DramaClub really are acting like Lone Star barely exists anymore and it drives me up a wall, seeing the lack of effort they put into things from their awful graphic design to posting previous season episode clips and screenshots, instead of anything actually new for Season 5. And I knowwwww, I see it too, them posting thing after thing for that damn surf show and we're lucky if there is one Lone Star related thing among all of that on their stories at all! I genuinely think part of it is they want their surf show to get higher ratings than LS so they can be like, "see, we made the right choice", but I love how even with their lack of LS promotion, as of last week LS outperformed their shitty surf show! Imagine what Lone Star's rating could have been with a little more promotion 🙃 And I only know so much about what happens BTS and with crew, but I wouldn't be surprised if that social media woman, who I still adore because she has given us so much fun BTS, had to find some other work or was put on to promote another show, because as we have seen, it seems that once Lone Star finished shooting it was no longer cared about after that. And we know there's still something they did with Ronen holding that yes or no sign, that we still haven't gotten the video for, but here's hoping we might get that in the next weeks or so 🤞. Hahaha, and yes, I absolutely feel the same way about the amount of activity on their surf show posts vs the amount of activity that their Lone Star posts get!! I mean, I remember when another Instagram account, thewrap, were the ones that posted Carlos' introduction as a Texas Ranger, and tagged the FOX and 911LS accounts, it has almost 170K watches but for some reason, that account does not have their likes on, but I can only imagine the number of likes that post has! Just goes to show what the fans and even some of the casual viewers want to see more of!

the hauntings: a masterlist

1 ) when i first looked up what obey me was, i looked at pictures. i got to him. i took note. weird looking guy, hes so beautiful it pissed me off, ha ha ha. conveniently, there was one of those pill shaped suggestions for what to add to your google search. that was just his name. i have not seen that get put there since. not even really on his 2024 birthday iirc. now it's always "mammon" or "solomon" or "levi", all the popular picks.

2 ) by pure coincidence, i got a phone with the space to download obey me in may while his birthday event was still running. clink pushed me to get in there. i had no idea.

3 ) his call was the first i caught in real time, besides mammon's at the very beginning of the tutorial section. prior to this i didn't know you could get calls while playing.

4 ) i had only one asa card that got me through levels in the original obey me. snowy bliss. once the elements of the cards started becoming more important, the other two members of my team would change frequently, with this OP wrath asa card being the only common denominator between all my teams. i never got a single other person for surprise guests. nor did i hear anyone else's "player initiates the battle" dialogues.

5 ) on that note, i never even saw anyone else on my title screen. i always thought "man, weird rng but this must be somewhat normal, to get mostly asa," and for A MONTH this just happened to me. then satan and lucifer and diavolo started to actually show up. i was weirded out. i realized i never saw these people's screens before.

6 ) i took a lot of breaks while playing initially bc it fucking sucked ass & they were all such pricks for no reason. the first time i quit, i came back to his devil's water panic event. i did not know i'd be seeing him cleavage out the second i decided to come back.

7 ) you saw me make my sona. i wanted the slightly bisexual but very potent color palette, mostly black thing going on. i come to find out however recent enough later that in the ongoing hero event, asa has a villain outfit and we were matching color palettes, with the exception of the gold trimmings on his ensemble.

8 ) generally, i have never seen a character get bear coded before in my life. i didn't think that was an animal any media would choose for their character, but fresh into my newfound being mentally ill about bears, i get introduced to someone who has literally turned into one.

9 ) for my first two ten rolls in nightbringer, both being for gacha events involving asa and one other person, i'd always get the other person in the ten roll BUT asa, alone, in another one roll i did after the fact. this memory might not be accurate. i forget about the gacha every time i'm not looking at it.

10 ) we all have the vague visions of characters we simp for sometimes, right? like when the guy in the movie looks up at the sky and pictures his mentor's face in the clouds and asks it "what would you say..?" WELL. one night i was talking to mine. i was disheveled and very depressed (putting it lightly), and for some reason my vision kept telling me to check the game. i did. this was when i discovered he had new dialogue, with a LOT of the first ones i heard being his comforting ones ("You can let your guard down but only do it around me, okay?" — which i had been at this point, as a note — "There, there. You're just a bit tired, aren't you?" etc. etc.) that he did not repeat again, instead pulling out a lot more of the lighthearted ones as i kept clicking on him. of course there's also his "we were definitely fated to be together" line, which is really funny considering Yeah Man. i guess so !

11 ) i saw some memes on pinterest of a bdsm quiz i was curious about, so i took it that night with a vpn because it was banned over here, i think. i mailed my results to my yahoo email, but one term i'd never heard of before that night was a "rigger." it got noted in my head. saw that it meant "people who liked tying up others" (and that scored much higher on my stats than its counterpart, "rope bunny.") the next morning, i go into the game to find that they have released a card where asa is tied up.

12 ) i was playing nightbringer in front of e.p. once and i was farming as per usual when he suddenly asked "why'd the guy change?" (for the post battle illustration.) i was confused cause i wasn't really paying attention. i went "what do you mean? it's rng." and he said "really? i swear it's been the same guy like five times now." he thought asa was a chef.

13 ) i passively scrolled pinterest once to find a miraculous picture of a noose, wherein i got excited as per usual, and then scrolled one centimeter down to find an asa picture looking at me.

there's also a lot of other stuff involving the aforementioned visions, what happened the first time he visited me, etc. etc. — these don't feel as insane to me because my imagination is always a little out of my control and you also know i have the sense, which is kind of linked to my imagination but works very independent of anything i am or know. there's too many variables to say what happened.

but for the rest of the things listed? un fucking believable. this doesn't happen to me, obviously, i'd be hard pressed to think of any time the circumstances have aligned so perfectly. UNTIL NOW. I GUESS.

these are all i remembered off the top of my head, too. maybe there's more! i don't know yet. funniest set of coincidences to have ever happened to me, though. thank you for asking that i expound, isaac.

• What’s your job?: I have.. a few of them. I do contract graphic design work for a local publishing company, I’m an artist and design my own T shirts/stickers and also do commissions - I love my jobs :> (well aside from the publishing company that one sucks)

• If you could go back to school would you?: Hell no, I hated school 😂 no… I just had undiagnosed adhd and struggled to keep my shit together. I made decent grades bc I always seemed to find a way to finagle things and make it work (mostly), but yeah the only thing I liked about it was meeting my best fren in college.

• Can you parallel park?: Ain’t no way. I’m a good driver for the most part but I can’t parallel park or back up into spaces for love nor money.

• Do you think aliens are real?: I’m positive that in the vast expanse of space there are many other intelligent beings but I don’t think they’re coming to earth. I’ve seen UFO’s multiple times in my life (with other ppl they can back me up lol) but tbh I just think it’s secret human technology that we plebs could not possibly fathom.

• Can you drive a manual car?: NAH

• What’s your guilty pleasure?: Good god I should feel guilty about all my pleasures but I reckon it’d be chugging Coke Zero and (7 times out of 10) staying up waaay too late for any responsible adult to be staying up.

• Tattoos?: I have 3, snowflakes on my right ankle (bc I’m a special snowflake but no actually I just really love snow lol), a pair of small wings (that I drew/had tattooed on me when I was 19) on my left shoulder and a garbage heap that was supposed to be the start of a back piece with a spine/roots that was tattooed far too deep (it’s scarred all to hell), crooked and ruined me of ever wanting another tattoo again lol. Seriously… it’s awful. (But I do want to get some small fandom tattoos one day)

I think one thing to remember about (some presentations of) ADHD is that it isn't always a literal internal dialogue of "That task is overwhelming/too hard/too many steps/unrewarding so I won't do it". For me, it's more like the idea of doing that task slides off my brain like butter in a hot pan. I will look at an overwhelming task and before I even finish the thought of "I should do that" my brain shakes like an etch a sketch and I've already forgotten it.

This particularly pissed my mom off when I was a kid because it's hard for me to see a sink full of dishes and associate that with "I need to do dishes", or she'd tell me to vacuum but because I wasn't immediately looking at a vacuum, I'd forget to do it. ADHD was weirdly very quiet for me, because I just wouldn't see things that overwhelmed me!

I'm now an adult who has lived on my own (/with another ADHD roommate) for 8 years now, been through therapy, and am medicated, so under the readmore I'll put some ways I combat this clear-cache process my brain does.

(obligatory im not a therapist or a doctor or anything so make sure you're consulting with those folks before doing anything major with your life. I have ADHD and have been treated for it, as well as I teach kids how to manage their neurodiversity as a job)

"I just can't remember to do something that I need to do regularly." This sucks to hear, but the answer really is routines. Routines are essential for helping manage sanity and overwhelm and keeping your house in order. And I know, firsthand, that ADHDers struggle with forming routines, but here's my major tips: scaffold. Scaffolding, or chaining, or stacking or any other name refers to picking something you already do at a set time (it's easiest if it's something you HAVE to do, like go to work or wake up in the morning, etc), and pairing your new routine task with that. And also its important to only try adding one thing to a routine at a time. Don't try to start showering, brushing your teeth, packing tomorrow's lunch, setting out clothes for the morning, reading, journalling, and doing yoga before bed all at once. Start with just brushing your teeth before you go to bed every day for like 2 weeks. Once you're solid on doing that, start adding in something else! People kinda hate on the book bc it's full of platitudes but I really liked a lot of the stuff in Atomic Habits by James Clear for setting new habits.

"I can't remember to do something that I don't need to do regularly. It's hard because I can't work it into a routine." It is not a shameful thing to need to make different visual or physical reminder for when you need to do things. Two things I particularly struggle with is turning the A/C off when I leave a room, or turning the oven off when I'm done using it. For the former, I have a small card I laminated that says 'turn off heat' that I velcro to the thermostat. When I turn the A/C on, I take the card and put it in my pocket or on my shirt or hair or somewhere where I will have it with me so that I can see the card later and remember to turn it off. For the latter, I have a necklace that I put a little tag on it that says 'OVEN' on it. When I turn the oven on, I put the necklace on, and it stays on until I turn the oven off and can take the necklace off. Try creating environmental things that work for you! I've seen people put their meds next to the canned cat food because their cats would remind them to feed them, and they would see their meds then and remember to take them!

"My working memory is really poor, I forget what I was doing in the middle of doing it." This is a kind of hard one to work on without just actively doing things in your life, but something I find that kinda helps me is doing puzzles! I'm not a big jigsaw puzzle person, but I love sudoku, pictogram, and crosswords (and some of the other things like wordle etc.) Logic puzzles are another good way to work on needing to hold something in your working memory. Puzzle video games like Portal are also good for exercising your working memory. Working memory is a bit like a muscle, and needs to be stretched to hone as a skill. When you're in the middle of one task, and another one comes up, having a pen and paper ALWAYS handy makes it easy to jot down a reminder about something you need to do later. This is often called a 'parking lot', and works well for me!

The former is extremely good for an overview of what living with ADHD and working with your brain is like, and the latter is actionable activities to help with breaking tasks into more manageable formats.

I was wondering, would you mind talking about why Slam Dunk is one of your favorite manga? I've seen it on a lot of people's favorite manga lists and I'd like to know your favorite aspects of it. I started reading it because of you (I'm at Shouhoku's first match against Shoyo - I say "first" in case they play against each other again) and personally I find it really charming so far, Sakuragi is a really endearing protagonist and I can see how later mangaka were clearly inspired by him and Rukawa to make their own characters (cough Naruto haha). I like the Akagi siblings too, and Miyagi is really funny. I'm rooting for Shouhoku High!

Where to even begin ever since I first read it in what... 2017? It completely upended and forever changed the standards of which I hold comics to forever and gave me a genuine internal crisis of knowing I'm neverrrr going to have a reading experience like this again where I laugh out loud, get so overwhelmed by excitement my body starts moving on its own and I have to suppress my screams, sequential art and panels that makes me rethink how I want comics to capture the flow of action, truly visually diverse cast of characters, the character development is great, the way the characters bounce off each other is great, the balance of off court matches and games I think is perfect, I love the length of the series and how it leaves me perfectly satisfied, and I can read it again and again and it will feel just as exciting each time.

I did end up having reading experiences that captured the same excitement as Slam Dunk like Rookies did a great job sucking me into the sport and grow to care about it together with the cast, not to mention that I think Morita is an excellent sequential artist and master of the visual aspect of manga which is obv the great influence Makoto Kobayashi has had (on Inoue as well) like Judo Bu Monogatari had the humor the action the character dynamics and again just the most amazing way of capturing the speed and dynamic action of Judo and visually interesting and diverse cast.... most action manga just aren't visually exciting to me anymore bc of these series. Its like playing a really good video game or watching a really good movie that kinda ruins other games or movies to you from that point on bc they were just so good and made you realize what you want good things to be like. Of course theres plenty of genres where these comparisons arent applicable but the sentiment of wanting a reading experience that absorbs me in this way is always there

I also saw the Tokimeki part of your ask but I will have more to say when I do my planned reread (I'm thinking of starting right before or after new years depending on what else i got going on) but it was also very much a game changer for me in appreciating adolescent drama and even the ~emotionally distanced~ male love interest. I've searched for anything that will capture me in the same way but no luck so far... again the reread might have me making some new connections previously unseen to me
