I have sooooo many lol. I think Maeve has always been the cool Aunt to Aelin, too. Like, she thought she was only getting one kid (and was already seriously out of her depth for that), but she also got an extra along the way.

But let’s start with the time that Aelin got her period because I feel like that is such a seminal moment for mothers and daughters, and Aelin did not have a mother to go to when that happened.

We already know that Rowan called Maeve to come pick them up early from that party when Aelin got her period, and I think she left a fun night out with friends to go attend to this super stressed thirteen year old. Because she just ~knows~ Aelin needs it. When they get back to the townhouse, she hurries Aelin into the bathroom and tells Rowan to go make them some tea with an out of character stern glare. She carefully explains everything Aelin could possibly need — showing her pads and tampons (“that goes INSIDE ME?!” Aelin gapes, looking at the plastic cylinder, to which Maeve says she will teach her how to use them whenever she wants but doesn’t have to learn tonight, “thank gods”). And then she has a serious convo with the teen, that’s so out of character for the usually bubbly Aunt that Aelin listens with rapt attention and wide eyes. That having your period is nothing to be ashamed about. That it’s completely normal and natural. And that anyone who tries to make her feel bad or weird about it isn’t worth her time. She remembers boys making her feel gross about her period in junior high. They specifically tend to get cagey about it because they don’t understand it. But not Rowan,” Aelin replies seriously. And Maeve feels a thrill of pride shoot through her. “No. Not Rowan.”

After their heart to heart, Maeve sets Aelin up on the couch and plugs in a heating pad, which Aelin loves so much she keeps turning it up too high and clutching it to her stomach like a blanket. She puts Legally Blonde on the tv (Aelin’s favorite of Maeve’s go to movie choices) and watches happily as Rowan carefully brings his best friend hot tea. And she smiles fondly at the pair as they fall asleep together fairly quickly. She texts Rhoe to let him know what happened, and when Rhoe picks Aelin up in the morning and asks if she wants to talk about anything or if she needs anything Bc he knows that’s something Aelin would probably want talk about with her mom, Maeve has to blink back tears when Aelin shakes her head and says she doesn’t need to. That Maeve had it covered.
