okay cj sent me the script for 2x07 which admittedly might have been my least fave s2 ep but now i'm all in my feelings about it so expect more thoughts as i read through

shaunatai. shaunanat. tai telling shauna that she could have gone with her to help bury her baby, and shauna turning away even more, clearly shutting her off. nat feeling alone because seeing travis and lottie sharing a bond that she does not have. and then going over to try to help shauna. but shauna, feeling like the dream she had was real and not being able to accept that it wasn't, remembers that nat ate her baby and threatens her. nat then leaves, feeling completely alone.

i have a cold atm. so uh. yellowjackets when they’re sick headcanons!

jackie - will go to school if she’s coughing/sneezing a little, but the moment it gets worse than that she’s in the office asking to be taken home. does make a big deal out of it and is kinda dramatic. is aggressively helpful whenever any of her friends are sick (meds, reading articles, getting homework, telling jokes, whatever she can do to be helpful)

shauna - dislikes being sick to the point that jackie has called her mom for her to pick her up multiple times bc shauna refuses to acknowledge it. will contact teachers at 6am letting them know she’s missing school and asking for the work. hates taking care of other people when they’re sick. will sit outside jackie’s room reading to her but won’t go inside

nat - fucking hates being sick bc she feels pathetic/useless whenever she is. normally when she’s sick she goes 1-2 days ignoring it, then lottie makes her stay over and takes care of her. nat also rarely gets sick. like she’s gone years without having to stay home from school, however when she’s sick, she’s sick. is really good at taking care of people but she only does it to people she really likes (lottie, van, laura lee and akilah)

lottie - has never gotten sick in her life. likes to joke that her brain is fucked enough so her body just decided to never mess with her. is one of the most caring people when someone’s sick. she makes nat stay at her house until she’s better, she’ll bring matzah ball soup to shauna (she did accidentally give shauna salmonella once bc she fucked up making it but it’s fine), gossips with jackie, will binge movies with van, catch tai up on homework, read books to laura lee - she’s the best person to ever be sick around.

van - is a lot like nat except they don’t succumb to it after 3 days. they’ll just keep going till they physically cannot anymore. tai once forced them to stay at her house bc van threw up twice during practice and nat had to drag them to the locker room. will literally only be around tai and nat when they’re sick because they hate it so much. (they’re dysphoria skyrockets when they’re sick) nat and van once got sick together and they just watched movies for 38 hours straight until lottie showed up and made them take medicine

tai - the moment she thinks she’s even a little sick she takes medicine, contacts her teachers and coaches and then sleeps until she’s fine again. refuses to be sick for more than a day so she never is. envy’s lottie for never getting sick, will not be around any sick person aside from van. she’ll just drop off someone’s homework for them and that’s it. the only person she tolerates around her when she’s sick is her mom bc she’ll sing to tai and tai is ok with her mom taking care of her (no one else. ever)

laura lee - just burrows under blankets until she’s better, when she’s sick it almost always means throwing up sick and since she’s the oldest her parents will stay home with her (if they can’t they have the second oldest) she just gets quiet and sad and a lot of the time lottie and nat go to her house to cheer her up (it’s the only time her parents don’t judge nat). (in the case of my nb laura lee hc - i think their dysphoria also gets worse when they’re sick, bc they’re whole body hurts and they’re hyper aware of their chest)

misty - freaks out and thinks it’s WAY worse than it actually is, had taken herself to the ER for a head cold before (she was fine). normally will just hangout with her mom and listen to show tunes until she’s better

Oooogh, more tensions in the cabin over the supernatural vs. rationality split. It’s important to note that Lottie is very uncomfortable at being thrust into the fore by Mari. This is also the first time that Shauna verbally stakes her claim in the skeptics side. God, poor Lottie—she doesn’t want this.

Nat being really gentle with Lisa and trying to help her see through some of the compound’s bullshit. Ugh, it reminds me of that moment last season when she coached Kevyn’s kid during his game. I love her.

Lottie at the therapist/psychiatrist’s(?) office. The way she so nervously plays with her fingers. The slight crack in her voice. The tears in her eyes. God, I’m so fucking unwell.

The way that Shauna distances herself from the Yellowjackets at first because compartmentalizing is historically how she copes, but then she revisits the statement. She includes herself, but it’s too hard to talk about. You can see the utter pain in her face as she looks away. And you can also see in Callie’s microgestures that this is genuinely one of the first—if not the very first—time her mother has every willingly broached what happened in those woods. And she’s so hurt for her mom. She’s one of the few people who has identified that Shauna is hurting. I’m sick.

God, poor Callie Sadecki. Her mom’s a killer and her father is a blackmailer. No one is allowed to hate this very normal teenaged girl with fucked up parents.

“We are lying to everyone, okay, everyone we know. I don’t want to do that to our own daughter.” The vulnerability in Shauna’s voice. So many fascinating layers here. Objectively, Jeff is right—making Callie an accomplice is harrowing. But what’s happening in the subtext is that Callie wants to desperately to connect with her parents, her mom especially, and vice fucking versa!! So it’s fucked up that it’s happening this way, and it’s fucked up that Shauna sounded more like a teenager in that conversation by the car, and it’s fucked up that Callie is so accepting, but that is the literal point here. This family was founded upon deep and unspeakable trauma, and they have to continually grapple with that.

Anyway, Sadecki family bonding moments. <33 I love a family who does crime together and they’re all messed up beyond comprehension.

hello little gay people who live in my phone, here are my thoughts on yellowjackets 02x03. spoilers below cut

first of all! lets talk taivan bc i feel like we got some good stuff from them this week so i’m starting there bc i love them

- i felt so bad for tai when she had the realization of what happened. like she had no idea and it’s so upsetting like she had to process that not only did she do that but everyone else did it willingly! also how van just immediately tells her that she ate the face, van, baby, i love you but maybe don’t immediately tell your gf that she ate someone’s face in her sleep. also interesting to me that she went for the face given that in 02x01 she tries to eat van’s face in her sleep

- van following tai when she sleepwalked, she’s so so so worried for her and i feel like in this episode she really fully sees how bad it is. finding out about the man w/ no eyes, sleepwalking tai not being tai, it’s all super wild and i want to learn more i wanna know what her connection to the supernatural is and being drawn to the rune was interesting

- during the bird scene when van was collecting them like lottie said, the way tai was looking at her made me sad. like we know the cult shit is causing issues between them but i don’t like seeing it. i do think i read somewhere that tai ends up getting more into it to stay closer to van so that’ll be interesting to see

- ok now onto the big moment for the taivan girlies: THE FUCKING MIRROR SCENE i’m obsessed mirror tai mouthing “go to her” and forming the doomcoming mask with her hands oh my god i can’t. and then her immediately running out at taking her assistant’s (or advisor or whoever that lady is) and calling jessica roberts (rip). i wanna know how she ends up finding van cause we know jessica can’t help anymore but yeah just the desperation to go find her in that moment was a lot for me and i cannot wait to get adult van next week

alright now onto some more general thoughts that aren’t taivan

- once again feeling terrible for our doomed king, ben. the scenes where he was remembering paul and imagining having gone to him instead of getting on the plane… my poor guy :( also him hallucinating rabid gen was great and honestly valid. at this point i honestly feel like ben’s gonna end up killing himself, whether he just like stops eating or like full on commits suicide i honestly think he’s just gonna die then get eaten rather than being killed for food

- i loved the scene of nat just staring at jackie’s body. her guilt and shame was so clear and just demonstrated well between that scene and what she said to the bones after dropping them off at the plane

- i don’t trust walter. the way he instantly jumped to flattering misty in exactly the way that works on her makes me suspicious and i wanna know what he’s up to. other than that mostly didn’t care about him and misty’s shenanigans except that its leading them to lottie and therefore our mistynat reunion

- lottie telling shauna that jackie would’ve wanted shauna to eat her and shauna saying she wanted to eat her… the homoeroticism of cannibalism my beloved

- loved loved loved the bits with akilah this episode, her and tai talking, her talking about her nephew, it was just SO sweet and so wonderful and i love her

- misty and crystal agreeing that jackie was tasty, crystal telling misty about absorbing her twin in the womb, these two are enabling each other’s weirdness and i’m obsessed with their loser girl friendship

- nat hallucinating the moose was interesting bc she’s one of the few main girls that hadn’t hallucinated yet so wonder what that means

- listen. shauna threatening the dude was incredible, i love my unhinged milf, but like the car theft thing took up too much time and also we got too much jeff this episode

- misty’s gift at the baby shower killed me. loved nat, tai, and van talking shit about it that was great but like what the fuck misty why are you like this

- adult lottie seeing the hives bleeding and bees dead was really interested and i wanna know what it means

overall a pretty strong episode. i’m glad that in the wilderness they had a fairly chill time given everything, like we don’t need a big shocking scene each episode and this one was more about dealing with shit and i liked that. my biggest issue this week is, as many people are saying, too much men (ben is the exception bc he’s the only man on this show i really care about)

jackie- the archer, just the way it’s so obvious that she cannot adapt to the wild as well as everyone else does and also how all her friends turned on her in the end.

shauna-right where you left me. i think this song could honestly apply to any of the surviving yj characters but specifically shauna and the way she’s moulded her life in the modern world to fit the life she thinks jackie wouldve lived.

i feel like it’s important to note though that shauna and jackie are the true embodiment of my tears ricochet and exile and i could go on about this for years.

misty- mirrorball!!! my girl is mirrorball through and through, she lives for people’s approval. AND ALSO MASTERMIND!! because she is scheming like a criminal constantly. OME MORE AGAIN SORRY!! but tolerate it!!! she is constantly helping others and not getting the attention she craves nor deserves.

taissa- this is me trying. LOOK, i know many people will disagree and i was going to put nat as this for well, obvious reasons, BUT i think in terms of taissa’s mental health issues and how hard she tries to cover them up yet still fails, i just personally think that this is her song.

taissa and shauna friendship is dorothea though idk what to tell you.

Nat- you’re on your own kid. i’m sorry this is just her especially in terms of her relationship not only with her family but also with travis. but also i could definitely see her also being evermore because that song just channels feelings of guilt.

lottie- !!mad woman!!! pretty obvious but especially “women like hunting witches too” because it was the girls in the surviving yj squad who sent her back to the psychiatric hospital😓 also out of the woods because i feel like it’s ironic as she never really left them. (none of them did but lottie arguably even more so).

van- it’s time to go. idk why but i just feel like it sums her up, specifically older van. van and taissa together though are 100% tis the damn season and the 1😪😪

laura lee- epiphany🙁 laura lee in general embodies happier early taylor swift albums like debut but if we are going sad then it has to be epiphany bc it’s just laura lee during her final moments except i don’t think she fully made sense of it before she died.

van - obviously a follower of the hunt, but could also be marked by or an avatar of the end, because of how much she's cheated death

travis - somehow connected to the eye (died trying to commune with or "see" the wilderness)

mari - marked by the hunt or the slaughter

crystal/kristen - initially i wanna say she's a victim of the vast because she fell to her death, and then her body apparently disappeared afterwards... but this could also be tied to the spiral bc the body vanishing could be a manifestation of unreliable perception, which is quintessential spiral. so possible interplay between the fears here.

misty - because of how much deception is a part of her character, i'm inclined to say she is first marked by and later becomes an avatar of the spiral. but surveillance is also a big part of her character as an adult in s1 so i think the eye is also a possibility. she is also marked by the lonely.

uncertainties:

the man with no eyes - the fact that he has no eyes suggests a previous alignment with/defection from the eye. but we don't know enough for me to pin anything down definitively

cabin guy - with the limited info we have, i'm inclined to think he was marked by the hunt in some fashion, possibly an avatar of it

victims of the plane crash - obviously you know i wanna say the vast. but the circumstances around the crash are still (excuse my pun) up in the air so idk for sure

melissa, gen, and yellowjacket #2. girls i barely know you

also, i'm hesitant to call anyone's hallucinations, visions, or plausible mental health crises a spiral alignment. like, lottie has schizophrenia, shauna seems to have psychosis (post-partum or otherwise), akilah thinking nugget was alive could be starvation-induced delirium, and other tai could be a dissociative state. so i'm not touching any of that with a ten-foot pole
