due to popular demand (2 mutuals and me) i present to you my top ten movies watched in 2024!
i wanted to be fair and in the actual top 10 i've only included movies that premiered in 2024 in poland (with one exception) but i've also made a honorable mentions list and top short movies (because they deserve as much attention as feature films!). so, here it is! enjoy!☺
10. All Of Us Strangers (Andrew Haigh, 2023) 4/5 stars It's one of the rawest, most intimate films I've ever seen. It makes you feel like and intruder of someone's deepest thoughts and feelings, as if you were reaching directly into the main characters' minds, souls and hearts. It's uncomfortable in the best possible way and it's very very real. The dialouges are so honest and emotional and gave me chills, some of the shots are out of this world and made me feel like I was personally there, basking in the sunlight or smelling the smoke. AND Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal are a perfect duo, their acting was so believable it makes you forget you're watching something fictional. It has it's flaws yes, but it also made me think about it for days. It's like a healing fever dream in which you're trying to make things better.
9. Evil Does Not Exist (Ryūsuke Hamaguchi, 2023) 4/5 stars Damn. This one. You know, I wasn't really sure about it at first bc it is frustrating but then I think this film wants you to question it and that's a good thing about it. It's all about perspective and whether you actually believe that evil does not exist. It's a good reflection on grief, cruelty, humanity and how we choose to exist in this world. I wish it reflected more on nature and how we influence the envoirnment around us BUT I also understand why it didn't. It has a beautiful score from Eiko Ishibashi and some hypnotising, breathtaking cinematography. And it proves that evil does in fact exist and is stored in annoying glamping guys who disturb your routine and plan to destroy your envoirnment and community. Also, I'm impressed in Hamaguchi's ability to create a slow cinema film that's under 2 hours, that manages to actually give the story space it needs and resolves all important plot points.
8. Sometimes I Think About Dying (Rachel Lambert, 2023) 4/5 stars🖤 Touching and relatable in ways I wouldn't expect. It was a pretty personal watch for me so I might be biased but I think it's a very interesting take on mundanity, death (and fantasizing about it) and the mortifying ordeal of being known. The cinematography is beautiful, the story is written and told in such a gentle and understanding way, Daisy Ridley is simply great and the music score gives it all a nice touch and sets the mood perfectly - everything works together very well. Justice for boring girls who fantasize about death and live inside their heads!
7. The Beast (Bertrand Bonello, 2023) 4,5/5 stars It NEVER went the direction I expected it to go and that's a VERY good thing in this case. It crawls under your skin and feels a little haunted. It's unpredictible so it keeps you guessing and wondering all the time and it never gives you a simple answer (and trust me, you'll have a lot of questions watching this), even at the end of the movie. It's a very complex reflection on relationships and love, modern world and gender dynamics, technology and history. It's surreal and realistic at the same time. Yes, you need to be patient with this film but it's worth it. Everything shown, said and done in this movie has its' purpose. And I'm in awe of Seydoux's and MacKay's acting here, it's incredible how they managed to play multiple characters that are basically the same people in different timelines and yet I couldn't recognise them sometimes.
6. Perfect Days (Wim Wenders, 2023) 4,5/5 stars 🖤 Well, it turns out I'm a sucker for some slow cinema. Another film that demands patience from you but it was one of the most memorable watches for me this year. I could watch Hirayama-san go about his life for 10 more hours. Yes, it's a little cliche but it also works because it knows exactly what it wants to achieve. It shows the beauty and freedom in the mundane and it also shows the prettiest public bathrooms you could imagine ajkfgjsfjadsgfaj no, but seriously, I really appreciate this movie for showing that sometimes "a boring life" is just... a good one. You don't need to do great things, you don't need to kill your soul for labor, you don't have to be proud of every choice in your life but it's also not worth it to dwell on the past. It's about whether you're satisfied with how you live now and your life can just be... ordinary. What's important is - are you free and living in harmony and true to yourself? Some shots here are magical but what caught my attention the most was the sound design and how it adds to the story. I could talk about this movie for hours but I'll stop here.
5. How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (Pat Boonnitipat, 2024) 4,5/5 🖤 Have you seen all the videos of people sobbing in theatres as the credits of this film play in the background? I'm happy to inform that all this videos are true and I sobbed like a baby. I have a strong loving relationship with my grandma so this film was a very personal watch for me and a bitter-sweet one too. Guys, this film is a warm hug on a cold day, it's a beautiful, touching story about appreciating your loved ones (even if you lie to yourself that you don't actually care about them) and saying goodbye to them, when you really really don't want to. But it also made me laugh a lot and this is just how life is right? It's bitter-sweet and there's never enough time with the ones you love but it's still worth it. Some beautiful shots, great acting and a simply lovely story.
4. Challengers (Luca Guadagnino, 2024) 4,5/5 stars 🖤 Oh, where do I even start. I must admit that I was sceptical at first with all the hype this movie had and then I regreted SO MUCH that I didn't manage to see this in cinema😭 I just know I would've had an out of body experience. This movie had me sitting on the edge of my seat, pacing around the room, gasping and cheering. The tension is incredible but the pacing is also really good so the story isn't rushed but keeps you intrigued the whole time. The soundtrack is crazy good and got me hooked from the start, the main characters are so interesting and the cast did an amazing job. The final 30 minutes of this movie?! OUT OF THIS WORLD, I'm so serious. Challengers is like watching a very intense match of tennis between a divorced couple and their lover. Literally! And you will have the best time ever watching them and you will get involved and take sides. It's very fun and the cast is incredible, brain goes brrrr!
3. Anatomy of a Fall (Justine Triet, 2023) 4,5/5 stars 🖤 This film has it all. COURT DRAMA, great cast, trilingual queen accused of killing her asshole husband, dog's acting that's better than half of film industry, amazing child acting as well, hot loser lawyer, great script that never lets you get bored and cinematography that makes you feel like you're a part of it all. What I love about Anatomy of a Fall is that it forces you to come to conclusions yourself, not giving you an actual answer. Whether the main character is guilty or not is actually up to you. There were moments where I was totally hypnotised and immersed in the story with my whole body. It's complex but executed very well, so there's no loose plot points and there are so many details too but you also have to decide yourself if they matter or not. And the multilingual part is done SO WELL, it shows the struggle of existing in a foreign country, being forced to use languages that are not yours to build an image of yourself that can never be really true because it's not in your mother tongue and how it affects you in a very honest way imo. I kind of can't wait to watch it again.
2. Wham! (Chris Smith, 2023) 4,5/5 stars 🖤 (Okay, hear me out. So technically I watched this in 2025 already BUT! It was in the first days of january so in my head it still counts as 2024, okay? Okay. And besides, I really want to put it on this list because it belongs here.) It's not easy to make a decent documentary and it's hard to make a good one. This one? It's very very good, great even. The editing and songs choices are excellent and the whole production feels like a conversation between George and Andrew, them recalling memories as if they were telling you their story at a cozy party. It made me miss Wham! and George a lot but it also made me appreciate Andrew a lot more and understand both of them better. It's lovely to see and hear their perspective on the whole phenomem that was Wham!. It's definitely my new comfort watch <3
1. Monster (Hirokazu Koreeda, 2023) 5/5 stars 🖤 AND THE WINNER IS... MONSTER!!! MOVIE OF THE YEAR, MOVIE OF THE DECADE, MOVIE OF THE CENTURY. TO ME! I've seen it several times, I've had the soundtrack on repeat for the whole year, it's my new comfort watch, I want to give it a whole chapter in my master's thesis, I can not shut up about it ever since I've seen it, it's serious. This film means so much to me at this point that it's hard to describe with words, but I'll try. If you've seen any Koreeda's films before, you know the drill. He likes to tell subtle stories about what makes us human but he's never idealistic about it, most of the time it's just brutal truths about our world shown in a beautiful way. But he never leaves viewers without hope. And that's what Monster is as well. It's about two boys, who become friends but we don't know that at first. The story is told from 3 perspectives - the mother's, the teacher's and finally the boys'. And it's an excellent choice because we get to learn everyone's motives behind their actions and then the actual course of events when it's time for the boys' perspective. It's not just "same story told from different POVs" - each POV brings something completely new and focuses on diffrent details. It's told beautifully, with so much understanding for each character and it's just so. gentle. You're waiting for the perspectives to collide, for bits and pieces to connect and show the whole picture and when they do... Let's just say, it's a rollercoaster of emotions. The story is simple but so complicated at the same time. It asks, who is the monster? Is being a monster actually a bad thing? Who decides about all that? I think it's an interesting choice of Koreeda's to answer these questions with this story and these characters. I love so many things about this movie. It's a story I didn't know I needed. It's like watching someone's distant memories, it's like watching something, that will happen soon. The soundtrack from Ryūichi Sakamoto is perfect and only adds to that feeling. Actors? 12/10, amazing job, especially from the kids and Sakura Ando. The cinematography? Excellent. I sobbed obnoxiously, I laughed, I was devastated, it was the most cathartic watch for me this year and in general. If you were to watch only one film from my list, I want it to be this one.

Girl I’m back lol so I just wanna say you answered really well to the anon upset abt AP and idk if this is a age thing because I’m Austin’s age and we’ve come from the height and dangers of insane paps and gossip magazines being on the shelf when your trying to buy your food in EVERYONES FACE, it wasn’t even about if you had a social or followed fan account pages it was just there and you had no choice but to read the heading lol so we’ve, my generation and older have seen the worst of it and yes social media is a beast in itself but 90% of ppl do not really care or live their lives by social media posts and reels, im not sorry we just don’t lol. All the drama that happened over the years with house hold names and look at them still fine and ok.
That anon should take some time like you said bc if you let it it will drive you crazy. I also don’t think it’s embarrassing for Austin at all, it happens more then we know it’s bc we’re fans of Austin and follow fan pages that tell us all the news that we really even know anything. But I could ask 1000 ppl right now in person what they thought abt it and I guarantee the % of ppl who actually know or care is very small and wouldn’t change Austin career or success especially when he’s wanted by so many directors.
I’m proud of Austin and I trust that grown man who’s been taking care of HIMSELF for a long time who’s been through so much to continue to make the best decisions for himself and I really hope and pray social media or so called fans never make him feel insecure about his choices bc honestly fuck yal and leave our mans alone 🙄 social media can be a tool for ruining people (and not always) but that’s usually ppl who rely on it for their success (aka influencers and such) and most talented actors don’t outside of promoting their things. Movies and actors were huge before social media and will continue to be so after.
Life is good and im sure Austin knows that and appreciates his life that he’s works very hard for.
Rant over 🙂
Thanks for your input on this girl. 😊
And yea, I'm around Austin's age too, so I do remember the days before social media lol.
Honestly? Most celebrities get hate online. It's sad, but it's just a fact. We can't control what people say about Austin online, but we can surely control what we choose to focus on and give our attention to.
I always say that an actor's work will eventually speak for itself, and everyone who is a hater will eventually turn to liking them. Austin is just going through a momentary hazing phase that a lot of younger, nice-looking, talented male (and even female!) actors go through as they get a lot of success.
I watch documentaries on lots of celebrities from the past, so I've seen media footage on how people used to treat Britney Spears in the media (when she was just a teenager! 😭), Leo DiCaprio also got massive hate when he was younger, etc. I even personally recall when Anne Hathaway was getting massive hate online, and everyone said she was "annoying" and a "pretentious theater kid".
Now look! Everyone loves Britney! Everyone loves Anne. Leo is regarded as one of the greats, and everyone coming up behind him in the industry wants to have a career like his. He might still get clowned online and in the media for his love life lol, but the point is, he's now looked at with respect. The same will happen with Austin, just watch and see. ☺️ He's too talented and too kind not to.
What it all boils down to is jealousy tbh.
Like you said, when you ask most real people out in the real world (those who aren't chronically online getting their minds poisoned by Twitter 🙄), people love Austin, and find him massively talented! Just the "Elvis" fandom alone loved what he did in that film.
I wish fans would take a break from social media and online forums and just talk to real people for a change. Preferably, people who haven't had their minds influenced by Twitter or TikTok. 😒

do you have where the duffers said that there will be pre-time skip scenes? I thought it was all fan speculation
don't have that handy as a legit source rn sorry, i can only give you word of mouth that originally, right post s4 coming out, the Duffers mentioned in an interview that they would do a time skip again (to account for the actors ages and time lost with the pandemic filming delays) and that it would happen a few episodes into s5. they brought up the idea of it happening around episode 2. and that s5 would pick right back up where s4 ended. opposed to filming s4 and s5 back to back like what their original plan was. but they were also vague and things clearly weren't finalized yet
so the obvious conclusion at the time was that there would be pre time jump scenes (episode 1 and potentially 2) and that's all we had to go on for over a year and that's why a lot of people are so sure there will be a significant amount of time spent pre time skip
but that was all the way back in 2022 and wasn't repeated since
personally, i definitely think there's a possibility the time skip is going to happen right into s5. which would also help them avoid pacing nightmares like having to "re-start" the action/tension build up over an hour into the final season
but from where we are right now we just really don't know how they'll do the time skip. a lot of people are very adamantly sticking with what was said in that one initial interview, but, again, that was a single interview from autumn of 2022. so yk. what people also took to mean time spent pre time skip is the Duffers saying s5 will jump "right back into the action" since they don't need to establish motive for the characters anymore (actually Do have a link for one of those articles lmao). but the opening of s5 going fast could also easily be meant to be post time skip. there just won't be much introducing the characters or having them find the plot anymore, that's going to happen whether we pick back up where we left off or start up post time skip
but lacking confirmation by the Duffer's aside there is a few things suggesting they already filmed more than what we saw in s4, which would make sense as pre time skip scenes for s5 since the actors would still be the same age and they wouldn't have to rebook old locations, like:
bts of Rinkomania existing of things we never saw in the show. like Will wearing the outfit from the van trip and finale. despite the filming in that location happening in an incredibly short amount of time which would mean a packed filming schedule
bts existing of the cast sitting in the Sinclair's living room while in full costume (might add a link to that later but i don't have it handy right now)
also the script of the final episode we got by the official writers account not ending on the usual ending but on a literal "end season" cliffhanger, which a lot of people took as there potentially being more they filmed of that scene as an opening for the next season (that's purely speculative tho, not as solid as the other two things where we have image proof, i'm just mentioning it bc i've seen it discussed before, so just to cover Everything yk)
since we know so little, those could be scenes we see right away, but that could also be flashbacks we see later on, post time skip. so while there are things pointing to there being more 1986 scenes filmed that we haven't seen yet, that's not really indicative of when the time skip itself will happen
my Current personal guess is super early into e1 but that's not based on anything specific except what i think would make the most sense from a logistical and story telling pov (opinion up to change at any moment based on news we get tho)

Gonna tinhat in your asks just because
I feel like it really WAS supposed to be a hiatus. They stepped away from the gaming channel and joint content bc Dan had a lot of projects he wanted to work on (the more serious content like big, the YouTube show, maybe even the solo tour) just to stretch his creative limbs and bc they needed to sort out the house/move, and uploading through all of that would be stressful. They were probably thinking 2-3 years tops. And then the world blew up and half of Dan's plans blew up with it
I feel like this return is GENUINE, like they've wanted to do it and just haven't been able to yet because Dan wasn't done with his stuff
i see that you have good points. it was very convenient to not have a gaming channel when they ended up living in a filming apartment with 0 space. but Dan constantly saying (through Phil sometimes) that he doesn't want to make that type of content anymore and doesn't want the gaming channel to return... it was very telling. only Phil was saying "maybe" because he was the only one actually wanting and needing it. that "maybe" was saved in case everything else went down. like a safety blanket that they always could pull out. which they did.
i understand Dan wanting a hiatus of sorts. he was burnt out. 2018 was a crazy year! it's just.. the vibes we started getting right after were very final. "Dan doesn't want it" was a final statement. and maybe he didn't want it because of other projects. he basically killed DanandPhil brand at some point, it was very apparent that he wanted to get out of that label. that he wanted a name outside a very successful duo they built throughout almost a decade. and it was fucking hard for him, you know. i understand that. the 1st project was ruined by youtube and covid. the company that he gave 10 years of his life let him down. it's a rough fucking start for a name building.
i'm simplifying a lot here, bear with me :))
i think the wad tour opened Dan's eyes a little bit. and i will take it as a win in the end of the day. it was starting very well and promising. the concept and 1st promo materials were well done. but then everything started wobbling and neither Dan nor his team was ready to deal with problems fast enough. and in contrary to how fuckups didn't really make a difference during ii NOW they made a difference. Dan couldn't make a name between 2019 and 2022, so he started going back and forth with his content. sometimes it wasn't clear who was the main target for videos, announcements and promos. i still don't know who initially was the target audience for his book. it can't be us! we know everything he wrote there. but marketing was so non-existent, it's scary how it could flop if he didn't have an audience based on DanandPhil™. his tour had somewhat of an audience also only because of the branding he was so determined to escape. although, there was a moment when he tried to advertise it for a wider audience, wasn't it? especially in the UK, where they had actual posters in the cities outside the venues. i remember having questions about why marketing shifted throughout the tour (while the script stayed the same! loser). i can't say that dystopia daily even had a target audience in mind rfbhfjekeeo
what i'm trying to say is, something changed in Dan's mind. there was a series of events that made him realise that coming back to dnpgames wasn't actually a bad idea. the European leg of his tour was the biggest mess i've ever seen. the fact that Dan explicitly threw shade on people he worked with only confirmed how bad things were. the search for a new management team, constant postponing of wad dvd, Phil's recycling content, and god knows what else – maybe it made him realise that a familiar content on a channel that everyone loves so much and will give views (and money) is what's best right now. new projects are always a risk. dnpgames isn't. and he still can work on something alongside. especially if he finally has new managers who will fight for his interests and property communicate with people they happened to work with. (allegedly. we don't know if he actually got new representatives).
if he actually had a 2-3 years plan (even 5 years plan, idc), the communicative language should have been different. but the only vibe i was getting from him right till yesterday was "i don't what to do what y'all are suggesting. period." and then he is talking about hope on twitter?! bro, as if it wasn't in your hands all this time 😭 i love him and i wish him all the best, and i'm rooting for his career more than for my own. but damn, does he not make it easy 😂
P.S. if turns out i'm wrong, forget i ever said anything. Thanos your memory out <3

First, genuinely surprised you haven't seen Dog Soldiers (2002) bc it's soldiers vs werewolves in Scotland with a Scottish protag and special forces based fuckery. You would like it a lot! Second, and spoilers for a 20+ year old film I suppose, you can A) be infected w lycanthropy in this verse and B) the I suppose "native" Scottish werewolves live their life as an ordinary multigenerational family and they aren't being overtaken by the Change they are very much thinking and are eating people and shit on purpose. It's implied one character was uh, turned for the purpose of being a bride to the family's young male wolf and that they do also reproduce normally (aka they have werewolf babies, they are not dependent on needing to bite people to have kids/make more wolves) There is a really cool short vid speculating on them that I can share when you watch the movie.
But anyway in my head it def turned into one of Soap's sisters went up to the highlands for studies or whatever and became the new Mrs. Wolf up there which could lead to plenty of juicy storylines. Esp depending on how. Accomodating the family might or might not be. Bc you could go with the 141 is given the Dog Soldiers mission and he realizes his sister is one of them? Or after an op gone bad he runs off to hide out at his sister's place and slowly realizes what the fuck is happening. My personal fave though is his sister appeared to abruptly cut ties with the fam:
Back in the day their Good Catholic Daughter just up and called like "hi I'm actually abandoning my enviromental engineering degree that I came up here to do field work for also I'm getting married right now immediately also he's not Catholic okay bye" and became estranged esp since the fam assumed she was GASP pregnant out of wedlock. While she was actually werewolf'd to be a bride. But she does have children clearly, and Soap just after a fucky op, and maybe at a weird juncture with Ghost (maybe he got too close talking about family/Christmas and Ghost snapped at him and so on) just suddenly goes FUCK IT I AM GOING TO FIND HER bc he's like I miss her and also wtf and also our fam cut her off and if they find out I like men- anyway! To find her!
But showing up on the doorstep of a family of murderous werewolves with messy family dynamics to possibly "steal" her away since. Like even without the werewolf stuff it def reads like an abusive situation and she was turned to be a bride so. Shit goes sideways fast, his nephews are bitey but also kind of wondering about the wider world and the 141 has to go off books to rescue Soap from wolf death up North or similar.
lssjkhkhgst well i think i can count the werewolf movies i've seen on one hand but it does sound interesting so i will def check it out!
and you're right that is Juicy and ripe with possibilities 👀

Hm, maybe my memory is poor but I swear that I've seen you reblog Tolkien stuff (or maybe I'm mistaking it and it's all Legend of Zelda posts?)
But there I was talking as if you'd read the books or watched the movies!
I watched the movies so long ago that I forgot a great deal of them and I'm determined to finish the books before I re-watch them so that I can experience the whole original story of LotR without the film giving away the parts I'm still reading.
You'll find out more about Boromir in the first book and the very beginning of the second book. As for Denethor, he appears in the first chapter of the third book (and he had me just a little bit salty, to put it mildly.) You'll also see the Fellowship in all three books!
I'll be honest and say the only reason I have time to read at all is downtime at work and really long wait times for public transit. And I've only just recently began branching out from reading only Discworld to other books that I either read in high school or heard about but didn't get a chance to read yet. I'm keeping track of my reading on an app called StoryGraph, which lets you record start and finish dates and get recommendations based on what you've already read!
I mostly just use it as a reading diary of sorts. But if I ever get through my to-read pile (good luck, it's long) I might see what it recommends me. But even still, I usually go by friends and family's suggestions for any books that I might be interested in.
Haha, no you're right, I have reblogged LotR stuff. I have basically no fear of spoilers, if only bc I have been spoiled on stuff in the past only to not realize it was a spoiler and still get surprised when I reach it in the story anyhow (and also I think the weird culture of "no spoilers" is silly anyhow, bc like, sometimes the fastest way to convince me to look into something is to show me major spoilers that baffle me so much I need to figure out how a story could function to accommodate what I know out of context with the new knowledge).
But no worries, I totally get where the confusion came from. I know just enough LotR from osmosis that I can kinda hold a conversation about it. Your excitement for the stories does get me excited as well, and I really am looking forward to reading them when I can make the time.
Also I feel you on having free time to read things. I think that's part of my issue, is a lack of free time (or energy), but at some point I also developed this weird environmental thing where I couldn't focus on reading if I could hear human voices or if there was too much background noise of a certain type? Which, given that I still live with my family and they are all very noisy (and also assume that they can just start talking to me whenever if I'm sitting in plain sight, which is more or less everywhere where I like to sit to read), makes it hard to actually find the sort of quiet I need to read when I do have the energy for reading.
I used to be a voracious reader too, I was basically always reading a book from middle school through high school, sometimes multiple books. And I used to be able to read in the middle of a school's worth of noise, so I have no idea why all the academic reading I had to do in college messed with my reading habits so much. It's not that I haven't read anything--I made it through Dracula all on my own a year before Dracula Daily happened, just because I was interested in it and wanted to read more classics. And I've made my way through about a third of the complete works of Lovecraft, which are easier for me bc they're all short stories more or less (though I keep stalling reading the next story bc I know it's one of the "almost a novella" length stories). And of course, The Hobbit.
A lot of my free time is limited though, especially since I'm very particular about how things need to be if I'm to do something (which is partly the house situation, partly my brain is my own worst enemy sometimes). I often have to choose between art, video games, writing, general decompressing (i.e. interwebs), or watching something, and usually video games or art/writing win out if I don't need to decompress, because I can deal with being interrupted or ignoring outside noise when playing a game better than I can reading, and no one bugs me when I'm working at my computer generally.
Which hmmm. Actually, I think that might actually have more to do with it than anything, because now that I'm thinking on it I have read a metric ton of manga over the past several years, which I usually use various websites for (and am therefore at my computer). Granted, that's a slightly different storytelling medium than a text-based book, but considering I can finish a completed manga series in roughly a two-week span, I don't think my issue is with focusing on reading so much as it is getting interrupted or having too much background noise...hmmm.....
Well this was an excellent conversation actually, I think I might have figured out part of the reason my brain wants to strike when I do try to read, and if I can get to the root then I can maybe figure out some sort of workaround to trick myself back into reading text-based books again. Which is great, because I have so many books in my to-read pile, and I do want to check out the Discworld books at some point (which I've never read, but they are also books that I just know from out-of-context things that I will love), and I really do miss reading as a leisure activity. So, thank you for prompting this discussion!

whats your opinion of the original Dune movie?
Do you mean the David Lynch one?
I haven't seen it yet, though I probably will at some point out of curiosity, so I can't give a fully informed opinion just yet - but from what I've seen and read, it looks like a completely bonkers 1980s sci fi film where Lynch decided fuck it, let's just lean into the weird sci fi shit instead of the commentary on imperialism and colonization, and obviously, it inherits issues from the source material while introducing new ones like whitewashing, and like with the new adaptation, I guess people are split on whether it was a good idea to go for outlandish sci fi aesthetics to avoid Orientalism or a bad idea bc it de-Arabized a story with heavy Arab and Muslim influences, whether you think Herbert did a good job or not.
That said, regardless of whether you think Herbert succeeded at the subversion of the (white) saviour trope or not - I don't think there will ever be agreement on that, not even among Arab scholars from what I've read - in the books, my understanding is that the Lynch movie throws out any critique of saviours and the false messiah plot in favour of Paul being a true messiah who makes it rain on Arrakis (I guess we're ignoring that would kill the sandworms and completely destroy the planet's ecology), which definitely is not what the books were about, so that is definitely a choice, and not a good one from a literary perspective, but one that would appeal more broadly, I guess.
Now that I just wrote that out, I'm wondering how much the idea that it's a straightforward white saviour story by people who haven't read the books is based on the Lynch film rather than the book, and if so, that would actually explain a lot, esp since I think the Lynch film was more known than the book itself, if only for memetic reasons.

hi!! gmmtv anon again :)
it feels like they’re trying to catch up with all of their delayed stuff, which is good for them and for us ig. they’re already filming two of the announced shows, and phuwin said they are gonna start filming we are pretty soon - they have three q’s for wednesday club left and filming for we are should start soonish after he’s done with that. also, the interest has already been filmed i think. same goes for my precious which is apparently just a longer version of the movie from what i’ve gathered.
and i just saw that they dropped the wednesday club trailer which is supposed to start airing at the beginning of november (sidenote: i love how they air two eps a week for a lot of their het shows lmao). 23.5 is definitely gonna air in 2024 but we already knew that. cooking crush and last twilight might take over the slote of dangerous romance and only friends. so that would be another two unaired gmm23 shows out of the way.
pls fk also had me fooled. mostly bc they said they were gonna go on stage together and i mean they didn’t lie but damn was i disappointed when it was only for school rangers and the LOL announcement lol.
pond definitely said he was gonna focus on school next year, but idk about joong. i would love for him to do at least another show, preferably with dunk 🤡, since i don’t think he’ll play a huge part in ploy’s yearbook and his arc looks to be a adoptive siblings falling in love with each other story which i’m personally not a fan of.
i’m also very bad at predicitions but i think it’s mostly because i’m heavily biased when it comes to my faves 😭.
oh reddit is on another level fr. i saw the jossgawin rumor and was like oh that would be fun but never in a million years would i have expected them to actually pair them upx and don’t even get me started on the greatinn thing bc i read that post and was like 👁️👄👁️ when i was done
helloo :)
okay when u put it like that, it seems that they're not going too bad for scheduling so far (i'm so glad). wednesday club !!! absolute missed opportunity to not be airing it on wednesdays smh
also i find it so funny that taynew offgun got 2 new shows when their 2023 ones haven't even aired yet 😂😭 gmm rlly said 💲capitalism💲, they know there's a guaranteed audience there so they went for it lmao
WAIT WHAT i did not know it was a stepsiblings story 😭😭 i've seen plenty of that in taiwan, was not expecting gmm to go there hajskdjf. i definitely want more joongdunk, but i also wanna see joong in another het role because he was great in the warp effect (also i just like seeing people outside of their established cps :)) also joylada gang show when?? i wanna see the 4 of them act together so bad 😩😩 it could be the worst show ever and i'd STILL tune in
also its interesting that there were so many rookies cast in shows this time around, i don't think it's usually this many?
that's so real about ur favs tho, if u ask me to make predictions about any het series i will NOT have a clue lmao
honestly half convinced someone on reddit works at gmm at this point, i'm gonna lurk on there for a bit before the next part of announcements and i bet there'll be a guaranteed bingo on my bingo card 😆

Hey!!
What Robert De Niro film did you see that made you a fan of his?
Howdy!! 💕
Ooooo good question!!
Honestly, my initial response would've been "hmm. Taxi Driver!" Bc like. That was what ignited my interest in him initially.
But... then I had a second thought (a rare event occurring🤓).
Y'know, I've seen like 3 or 4 of his movies before (like probably everyone did at some point of their lives), and Taxi Driver was the first movie made me appreciate him as more than just "oh, this famous actor everyone knows", but the movie that really, really, really made me fall in love with him was Bang the Drum Slowly.
I admit I haven't watched it in a while - I should some time soon - but this movie literally made me just fall in love with Robert as an actor and a person. I mean. His wholesome portrayal of goofy &silly baseball player who gets the news he's about to die, has to hide it and has to deal with the bullying of the assholes in his team... tore my heart into 25 bajillion pieces. He did such a wonderful job, this movie was so beautiful and inspiring. It just got to me, really.
This movie is one of those who will forever have a corner in my heart saved for it 💕
Tumblr media
There are so many gifs I could barely pick one 😭 (tumblr whacks my posts if they contain more than one pic or gif so unfortunately I had to pick just one) but this is gotta be my favourite moment in the entire movie - look @ this sweet lil goofball. His. SHIRT. 😭😭😭 And like. You can see how Henry (his roommate and his only friend in the team) actually cares about him... god don't get me started on that bc I will go on and on about it for DAYS!
Thank you for asking, and sorry the answer's too long - I can't speak about my beloved SpIn (or blorbo, if you'd like) without spiraling into an entire goddamn lecture. Lots of love 😘💕

Omg I forgot about the horror movies I actually really just ended up watching Disney channel show Halloween episodes and horror shows that I've seen before because most of the movies on Netflix aren't very good... but I watched the haunting of hill house which is so good!!! And I recently watched this French show called marianne and it was so freaky but so good I loved it!!! I've actually heard that smile isn't very good so I'm glad you liked it!!! I might have to watch it myself now... and honestly I was in the theater watching nope and there were so many scenes where I had my knees up to my chest because it was gross and freaky so you're not alone <3 whats your favourite genre to watch? -💕
ohhhh disney halloween episodes were so good from what i remember.. anything of note that i might want to rewatch?
i've heard so many good things about haunting of hill house but honestly for the sake of being able to sleep at night i've had to give it a miss .. i haven't heard of marianne, what's it about?
funnily enough, after i wrote my review on letterboxd i checked what other people said about smile and wow.. not entirely well received, i saw a lot of people saying it wasn't anything 'new', or interesting and just that other movies had done the same thing much better.. which could be true, but for me - someone who hasn't watched a horror movie for like 6 years - it was so fresh and unpredictable and like i have no idea what common horror tropes are so it was such a fun watch, despite the terror and discomfort.. 💀
UGH im so sad i missed nope when it was in the cinema, i had the chance to go and watch it but literally the one day i was able to make time it was fully sold out so i watched spider-man nwh again which .. i do not regret.. i will have to get around to nope bc i love daniel kaluuya so much and i think him and jordan peele made SUCH a good combo in get out and i look forward to seeing it !!!
my favourite genre.. hmm.. im pretty easy on movies, i just won't watch horror and war movies (😭) because they're not my cup of tea, i'll watch anything else if i can make the time to ! im not sure if i could pick a favourite but 9/10 when it comes to romance / rom-coms or coming of age films i enjoy them so i guess i'd say one of those? what's yours? :)))

2, 6, 9 and 14 for the Sapphicnatural ask! <3
thank you ally!!! 💖
2. favourite rarepair?
oh god... ok i think i have to say Amara/Mary 🥺 it's just. like it was actually a surprise to me to come to see them as such a compelling ship? i started writing my Mary fic and i knew i wanted to explore this thing with Amara bringing her back and both of their pov, and it ended up.... just making so much sense to have them together. i let the story took me and it took me there!
some destiel parallels appeared, and this complex dynamic of i hate you/i owe you/i want to hate you/i love you... like from both sides it's sooo interesting. also love that Mary was, in a way and for so long, the og mother, and Amara is the og woman. and they're both actually not that and way more than that.... VS Rowena who is introduced as neither a mother (she has a son but she's not a Mother you know), nor a woman like others. these three live in my head. someday i will write smth specific for them
6. tell me the BEST spn femslash fanfic you've ever read
is this when i out myself as "i don't read many fics besides destiel i'm so sorry sapphics"...? 😭😭 i have a few one-shots marked for later but i still haven't got into it.
i MEANT to read one last night to have an answer to this question but i'm brain dead. specifically there's a Jody/Mary one who seems super interesting, been wanting to get into it for weeks, it's called neatly-labelled leftovers.
so i'm taking this opportunity to promote your Ambriel/Anna fics 💕 they're very cute, we stan rarepairs, and Ambriel truly deserves to come back & get a gf thank you for your service 🙏
9. post or link me your favourite spn femslash creation made by you
ok so i'm starting to run out of sapphic content i made 😂 thanks god for sapphicnatural week!! i have cool things planned 🤭
i still have a few left, so for you i've picked this little amv i made, the concept was to have like, a "phone video dump" from Claire's phone, and it's only some very domestic-daily life shots of Kaia
i did one from Kaia's phone as well, but this one is way more underrated. i liked to think of Claire picking the habit of filming from Kaia, except Claire would like... do it with less skills, more randomly, and so would end up with these awkward framings. like it would start as a way to make fun of Kaia's habit (affectionate) but she would enjoy it. so the editing is Like That on purpose. i had sooo much fun working on these two videos, trying to show some personality behind the shots ; to make it less "professional" ; working on a new size ; and it was one of my first attempts at coloring that much. picked the colors directly from the lesbian flag ✨
youtube
14. favourite female character you wish we'd seen more of?
you know what it's time to talk about her: AMARA. she's one of my ultimate fav character on the show, even tho canonically she's like, 75% lost potential and she's good mostly in my head i think 😭 but EXACTLY i wish she was there more, so we could get to know her better and know her outside of chuck's arcs!! she deserved to be her own character, and god truly s15 Amara was a gift but at what cost (the cost was not knowing wtf even happened to her exactly).
if i get into specific, i even wish we've seen more of teenager Amara!!!! it was sooo interesting to see her growth, the way her behavior is truly like a child, and she's discovering the world... it's such a cool idea to have this character who's older than everything but who is a bby in this world, learning how it works, its rules, its beauty.... the way at first she only sees suffering, but then learn to love it. but they ruined it by sexualizing her they literally put a (ugly) black dress on her character and let that hide everything she was offering & telling. and that's how a lot of viewers see her as well!!!! i hate it. bc yeh, she's way more developped in my head, but already in canon there is A LOT but people never read into her bc they think she's here to be a love interest and try to make Dean evil but NO!!! that's literally the narrative chuck's portraying!! anyway this wasn't supposed to be a rant over the misundertanding of Amara....

Hi there, I think I saw a while ago that you are a film student? I am too! I've been having a really difficult time lately staying creative and staying motivated to keep studying this (as much as I love film and would love to work in it one day). I was wondering (if you are willing) if you had any advice on how to stay motivated and creative during the duration of studying/making short films, etc? I have a double major so I haven't taken a film production class in a while (bc I was focusing on getting the other majors classes outta the way) and I feel so burned out that I can't even think of ideas anymore (this seems to persist no matter how much I remove myself from the situation) and that I can't even do it anymore. Thank you!
hi there, anon!!
first of all, i'm honored you'd even think to ask me this, lol. i am a film student but pretty new to it all still. i'm kinda split between theoretical and production stuff right now, but i totally relate to this struggle!! being creative on demand for these classes can be... very complicated, and i have a pretty high intensity production class this semester that's forced me to be coming up with projects one right after another with various limitations. i can't speak to the quality of my own stuff or how successful i've been bc i kinda feel like a fraud for a film student but fklsjdfkl, i follow a lot of production ppl from various things i've been obsessed with throughout the years, so i've seen some advice and tried it. i'm gonna put it below a cut bc it's kind of long but ❣️❣️
in terms of generating ideas.. some of the best advice i've seen is to consume other media but like... intentionally. a lot of the times, we can turn on a show and just be passively and mindlessly watching or use it to relax, but the second you start paying attention to the actual craft of it and studying it, the production design and the camerawork and the editing and the sound etc, you can start to pick up on your own tastes and preferences. and that's kind of working backwards but sometimes a particular shot can be inspiring enough that it's something you want to recreate and you can build ideas backwards that way. read reviews, watch director's cuts with commentary. read books and plays and poems and song lyrics. think of just iconography or symbolism or aesthetics you enjoy and build from that. brainstorming sessions in general are just really important too (sober or...... not), like getting into the headspace where you can just think without distractions. this almost always involves handwriting stuff for me. it gives me time to process and literally no idea is too dumb at that point, write down everything. also people watching?? or just intently listening to the stories of people around you or picking someone that's kind of a Character™ personality wise and building a story around a fictionalized version of them. for years, i've been keeping a note in my phone about just genuinely funny or surprising stories/situations i've heard in case i ever want to use them in the future.
also, for one of my classes, we watched this really interesting lars von trier documentary called "the five obstructions" which was essentially about forcing another filmmaker to deconstruct his own short film and remake it 5 different ways, with a different set of limitations every time. it was inspiring in terms of learning to see how to work with what is at your disposal. also, i know this is class and rubric dependent, but try not to limit yourself to like one kind of idea. like ... don't get stuck trying to make something just narrative or just documentary or just experimental or WHATEVER it is. i've been lucky enough to be in a class where we have kind of free rein this semester, but there is art in documentation and in just playing around sometimes. inspiration comes from literally anywhere, but i find that for me, a lot of my ideas work themselves backwards and i start out inspired by something visually pleasing or a line i love or a person i know.
i know this might not be the best advice, i'm still just a student myself and it's not like i'm overcome with the best ideas you've ever seen, lol, but i think it's important to set side time that's JUST for the brainstorming process. like studying and keeping up with everything else is stressful, but there needs to be built in time to really think through ideas and i struggle with that sometimes myself!! i wanna be go-go-go but it's just not doable. try to be kind to yourself and if you're not feeling it anymore, you're just not!! i'm wishing you lots of luck and inspiration, and i hope things go smoothly for you for the rest of your schooling ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

7, 12, 14, and 50 for the end of the year ask thing!
7 - Which fashion trends did you love?
I don't really keep up with trends but I'm pretty sure that sweaters/ugly sweaters were back in style this year and if so that's great bc I love sweaters especially hand-knit ones with funky patterns, the kinds that you can just feel love emanating from! I also saw a lot more people wearing visibly mended clothes which made me super happy, bc I'm a big fan of patching, fixing, mending my own clothes and I'm glad other people are starting to do the same! (Not so much a fan of fast fashion trying to take over that idea but I think visible mending becoming popular has done more good than it's done to hurt anything, which is nice!)
12 - What was your favorite movie of the year?
I didn't watch a lot of newly released movies but I loved Passing, Space Sweepers, and Fear Street 1994! I haven't seen a film in theaters since 2019, and that's how I used to see new releases, so I've mostly been watching DVDs I can pick up at thrift stores or in supermarket bargain bins - not a lot of brand new stuff there lol.
14 - Favorite new TV show?
I started watching DS9 this year, and I love it! As for a TV show that was actually released in 2021, I didn't see a lot of brand new shows but I'm enjoying the HBO adaptation of Station Eleven so far!!
50 - What do you wish for yourself?
Already answered <3

6. How has the pandemic been treating you? honestly, not terribly. im very grateful for the experience ive had bc i know its a privilege. i kept my job, as did my friends and family. the additional time has left more opportunities to pursue hobbies and interests, and i am a homebody, so my preferred lifestyle has been the norm. that said, there's also been the requisite fear, guilt, anxiety, and stress to contend with.
7. A song you can’t stop listening to right now? hmmmmmm....this is where it ends by alice boman.
8. Recommend a movie.  i wish i could say i watched a lot of movies these days, but i just don't. in terms of general favorites people maybe haven't seen yet? christ uh...this is embarrassing i literally studied film. moonlight remains an absolutely devastating film.

15. Biggest pet peeves? fandom tomfoolery tbh. like i've said befor,e im trying to keep this actual blog free from fandom-specific wank (i think show wank is okay, like we can have opinions) so i won't get into the specifics, i just think fandom needs to chill out. we're all a lot more alike than we think. that alongside people who refuse to take accountability for mistakes are the biggest thorns in my side these days.
16. What is your favourite “dere” type? lol i know what this is in reference to but idk enough about it to have an answer, apologies.

20. Is there something people need to know about you before becoming friends? lol i guess just know i want to be friends. it's been one of the nicest parts of creating this account, actually talking with people. im bad at initiating, so i guess that's the biggest thing. but if we're mutuals, im here to chat!
insert spiel about tagging giving me anxiety, and actually untoldbliss tagged the folks i probably would have lol! so im looking forward to your answers. @decadent-prince if you haven't done this yet and would like to? literally anyone tho pls say i tagged you if you want to do this! consider yourself tagged!

While I have no time to draw I found that thing from twitter and I don't think it would be bad if I post at least anything till I'll be free to draw?? and let's say that's just one another post before I'll finally add some of It in my blog
Tumblr media
I'll just answer all in one post let's go, guys
(Movies & mini series & book mixed)
1. Favorite female character
I don't think there're a lot of 'em lol. But
Patricia Uris
That's right, not Beverly. Patti has one(!) chapter and somehow I fell in love with her character while reading it. She's got her own story before Stan and she's got a very very very beautiful relationships with him.
(I'm so in love with Uris family I mean whyyyy can't I just have some Stan with his pretty wife and a CHILD THANK U VERY MUCH)
2. Favorite male character
RICHIE
I'm just in love with him he's perfect next
3. Worst character
Bill?
OK, let's talk about it. I was kinda neutral to everyone in the Loser club except Richie for a year or more. Then while being in fandom I fell in love with these guys like with everyone of 'em concluding Bill. But when I decided to actually read a book... why is he so stupid and careless and fjligvdsvfuklugxseggh
Moron.
I really tried not to be "of course u let kid go alone what will happen right??" but this.fucking.weather.this.fucking.fact.that.Georgie.told.him.he.was.about.to.go.to.the.closed.area.u.know.closed.bc.it.was.dangerous.to.go.there like BOY, u killed ur brother when he stepped out of the house HAVE U EVEN LOOKED TO THE WINDOW???? Was it ur plan how to get rid of him bc he was clever and better than u and everyone loved him more? Bc if it was, well, congratulations! it worked not like u expected but still worked!
I'm bullying Bill Denbro in my house I wish for the alternative version with George as a main character instead of him-
4. Favorite scene
Richie and Beverly dancing together
I LOVE their friendship they're like BEST BROTP EVER
I love all their interactions and I find it SO ADORABLE they danced together I always think about it ...about 'em
5. Favorite member of the Loser club
Well, again? Fine. RICHIE
6. Original or remake?
I'd say book? But if we're talking only about films when of course remake
I saw mini series some time ago and that was cute and had a lot from the book (and abult Eddie-) but it was so naive and looked kinda stupid (sorry everyone but I'm the new auditory and I can't get that seriously especially after new films) while new films... Weeelll...
Let's be honest, I saw It 2017 only bc of James McAvoy in the second chapter and I found it boring. And then the second part I found more like a comedy than horror. I didn't like films that time but I liked characters (Richie). Some weeks ago I rewathed both It 2017 and It 2019 and second one is still too long and a comedy but first I found interesting
So remake is great at least on the second time watching and that's enough
7. Reddie?
Reddie is always the answer it's never a question cuz the answer is YES all the answers YES
8. Ben of Bill?
Oh that's a question for me and my hate to Bill!
Ben OF COURSE
Not only bc I hate Bill, Ben is awesome himself. In films he was more leader for the Losers that Bill and Mike like together?? And have u seen that he did fo Henry in the book? Damn boy u're way too cool slow down
9. Best ship
Look question 7
10. Worst ship
OK it took a lot time to find the one bc I don't think there's any ship I would actually hate or smth but if thiiink Bill × Beverly
First, bc Bill?? Seriously?? Go and find someone better, my girl
Second, bc Ben and Bev have much more chemistry (god, Richie and Bev have more chemistry and this tells the person who would kill for reddie)
11. Book or movie?
Book
(and if u say the book is too big I swear I-)
12. Tim or Bill as Pennywise
Why do u need to ask such difficult questions?? I mean, I love every version of Pennywise no matter if it's book or 1990 or 2017-2019 they all are great in their own ways
So both Tim and Bill have an extreme charisma, different but equal in power
I like Tim's Penny bc he's simple and warm I mean c'mon I would definetly hug him or anything and die happy, I mean, he just got ur trust??? And I like how bad effects make him seams not like an awful monster who will eat u but like a friendly mischief (listen me up: he makes sink dirty right after Bev cleaned it up like phhhhhhhhahaha really u're a moron u know). Yeah, that's not that Pennywise is meant to be but that's adorable
And I love Bill's version bc he does look scary (in a some way, of course). Yeah yeah new effects are doing their work and the costume is less friendly than Tim's but the most important is Bill's acting. His mimic and expressions are perfect he fits this role way too good. And, damn, he's so funny like... Yeah, I'd spend my last minutes with him he's great, that would be the most hilarious death I could ever get
So... can I just say both??
13. Funniest character
Do u really see this as a question??
Richie. The funniest guy ever. I would go to his stand-up. I would buy his merch. I would buy hi- AHEMAHEM
Seriously, I found him irritating watching 1st movie first time but after 2d started I've changed my mind he's a diamond that makes films better like he's the only reason I didn't fall asleep while watching 2d part
14. Worst character fear
OK, let's say we don't count the book here. Bc, u know, the fears in the book was, well, like actually kid's fears. Like someone just saw a horror film great now they've got a deep emotional trauma that's like kids work.
So saying about movies...
Stan
Does anyone really got what's wrong with that painting?? I mean???? Just an art what's wrong with u, Stan, do u like... hate art???
I do not get it, plz, if u do, just explain me bc I have no fucking idea why should it be a normal fear that's stupid
15. Favorite actor from the film
James McAvoy
Like I said I went to this fandom ONLY bc of him
16. Favorite adult character
Do u think they grew up and anything changed? Hell no!
Richie
Forever Richie
17. Worst encounter with Pennywise
None? I really can't name u anything bc they all are great at leeeeast bc of Pennywise taking part in it. The scene with him can NOT be worst
(but still-
Eddie's such a stupid brave boy like WHY does he always need to go to scary deadly places I mean are u going to die of what????)
(in the book he just decided that was a great idea to actually try to get into the Neibolt house like ????????????????? U FUCKING BRAVE IDIO-)
18. Worst jump scare
I don't pay attention to any jump scares sorry
None
But I can name my fav! Mrs. Kersh. Not bc she's scary but SO FUNNY OMG
(and in mini series she IS scary, yeah...)
19. Favorite quote
Everything Richie says
20. Least favorite ship
Stanbro
This ship is really great: there're reasons why it's existing and the ship dynamic is good but... I hhhaaaateeee Biiilllllly. And that's the whole problem, yes. Blame me but I can't love otp if I don't like one of the characters
21. Favorite fan account
Don't follow any
22. Favorite Pennywise quote
Is he saying anything??
Alright-alright I know how it looks. "U say u love Penny but don't remember any of the words he's saying". Yes! All I remember is that everything he says is cool but, yeah, sorry, I have nothing in my head
23. Best friendship
RICHIE TOZIER
&
BEVERLY MARSH
24. Richie or Bill?
Who the fuck will choose Bill?????? Richie's the best
I mean, u want me to choose between my fav one and the one I hate most? really?
25. Eddie or Ben?
Not lying to u that's a difficult question. I like both of 'em so I needed a list with +s and -s of each one
Eddie:
+ Jack Dilan Grayser's face
+ the thing with hand
+ u can joke about his mom
+ s.h.o.r.t.s
+ he's mean I like ppl like that (I'm person like that)
+ can kill u with the knife just stuck in his cheek
+ healer
+ brave as hell
- he's SO loud
- non human speed of talking
- most of the time he's a wimp, let's be honest
- DEAD
- has scary tendencies of amputation everything
- not Riche's husband somehow
- mindlessly brave as hell
- FIVE
- PARAGRAPHS
- OF
- OBSCURE
- MEDICINE
- STUFF
in his very first chapter
Ben:
+ an architect (i concider all of 'em like gods)
+ punctual. If he said he'll be in ur bar on Saturday when he'll be doesn't matter he's in London right now
+ I tell u he's a hidden leader
+ can drink and stay sober
+ HE
+ PUNCHED
+ HENRY'S
+ BALLS
- wrote a haiku I don't like haiku
- minuses are ended
So Ben has less +s but less -s if u compare to his +s. So, sorry, Eds, but Ben
