The Reunion

So guys we did it, i finally finished a piece of writing. It is about Etho meeting up with Bdubs again after Bdubs returns from the Rift. Very fun 1k fic. They hug 👍

After the rift had opened, many of the hermits had decided to join Grian on the guest of finding out what resides on the other side — which is how half the server had become a ghost town for Etho. 

And even after a week, they still hadn’t returned. A majority of his friends were gone, at least he still had Beef to hang out with, but he too tended to be busy. Etho hadn’t seen Bdubs for a while. He wouldn’t hear from him or the rest of his friends for who knows how long. He didn’t want to worry, but the feeling of loneliness had been difficult to forget about. His heart ached in hope that nothing bad had happened to them. He had considered following them through the rift to try and find Bdubs, but decided against it, in case he too would have got stuck behind a malfunctioning portal.

Sometimes he would go back to the monolith and walk up the stairs to Bdubs' bedroom and tidy up the plants, water them, weed them — he always loved gardening, so he tended the greenery with joy. Bdubs hadn’t asked him to take care of his plants, but he had felt like it would be the most logical thing to do. Every day after work was finished, he would walk up to the tree of whimsy and sit underneath it, reading until the Sun started setting before he flew home again. He refused to admit that he missed him, it felt stupid, yet in his heart he hoped that Bdubs missed him as well. 

The moment the rift had been fixed, one by one the hermits started to return from the other dimension, dragging along some people who most certainly did not belong to the server. First thing on Bdubs’ mind had been Etho. Etho, Etho, Etho;  he wished to tell him about the Empire they had built, how he had become a god, how the rift had broken, and he wanted to introduce him to his new friends who had followed through. He was still wearing the shiny glowstone cloak from when he became a god, he shone like an actual star that had fallen down to Earth when he walked around. 

When Etho noticed a spark of light approaching him, he pulled out his sword to protect himself, only to lower it when he noticed a pair of loving sparkly eyes. It was him, he was back. He had been so busy wielding, he had forgotten to check the communicator, he excused himself for not noticing. Before any other thoughts rummaged his mind, he was roughly pulled into a hug as Bdubs launched himself at Etho. "Etho!!! My love!!! I have missed you so!" He cheered, and as he was no longer in the Sun; the light no longer reflected back from him. He always called Etho his love, as he did with everyone else he cared for, and Etho found it incredibly endearing. 

"Bdubs..." he replied silently as he cradled his face into the crook of his neck, eyes closed in relief. "You're okay." 

"Of course I'm okay! Oh it was so much fun, I wish you had joined us." his arms tightened the grip around him. 

"Can you, first, tell me what you're wearing?" Etho muttered, hands racking up the weird textured fabric. They felt like crystals, sequins, like velvet, all at the same time, he was warm in the coldest way, it confused him to no end. 

Bdubs pulled away from him, hands still on the other's sides, "Sit down. This is important, now." he declared with a mischevious grin. 

"Ok..ay" Etho chuckled hesitantly, settling down on the ground, eyes glued to his friend. 

Bdubs' giggled in excitement as he jumped ontop of a nearby anvil, holding his hands and head up, "I became the god of the Sun!" he declared, to which Etho couldn't help but laugh. "What? Do you not believe me?" he sounded offended enough for the other man to close his mouth and stare. "That's what I thought," crossing his arms, he glared back. 

"Can you.. prove it to me?" Etho smiled apologetically, shifting in his position.

"If you insist, my love." He grumbled in a calm tone, hopping down the anvil and kneeling down right infront of Etho, "Now, look into my eyes," he put his hands on his shoulders, waiting for Etho to comply, "Ok, good, now... listen closely." he said, "I am the god of the Sun, and you will. You will, believe me." 

Etho kept holding the eyecontact he usually avoided out of uncomfort, now for sure thinking it was some sort of a joke that Bdubs was pulling on him just to get him to stare into his sparkly eyes. Bdubs knew how much he struggled to not shift his view anywhere but the eyes. His demeanor didn’t seem too promising, he knew him well enough, right? Those thoughts only remained until he was dazed by a warm bright light that hit him like a tidal wave. When he opened his eyes again, everything around him was blinding with light, Bdubs was smiling at him like the happiest man alive. All that he could do was look around in awe, everything shone, the flowers gleamed in gold and the cold warm feeling was overtaking him. But slowly the light around him disappeared, the world now looking dull compared to before. His gaze stopped on the man before him. He was left absolutely speechless.

"Sooo do you believe now?"  Bdubs chirped in joy, tilting his head to the side.

"...How could… How could I not?" He tried to find the words.

"Exactly. Never have I ever lied to you. I would n e v e r."

Etho chuckled at that, nodding in sarcastic agreement, to which Bdubs tugged his hair with a frown. "Ow!" he laughed as a response, furrowing his brows.

"How dare you think I'd ever lie to you." letting go of his hair, he moved over to sit by his friend’s side, wrapping his arms around him for comfort. "Well, as nice as it was without you insulting me, I sure missed this place." he murmured.

"And I missed you." Etho whispered back, feeling weird for saying it out loud. 

Bdubs only hummed happily in response, nuzzling himself against him, "I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again."

I dont think youve gotten an ask like this before since this is an om! blog and all and this is possibly gonna sound weird or dumb of me to ask a german native this, but how hard is your grammar really?

Reason (1-1) for my question: languages are my guilty pleasure. I'm only fluent in arabic and english rn but I wanna learn as much as I can, even if just basic facts, not a language itself

Reason (1-2): people learning german insist that the grammar is "brutal" especially for english-speakers but frankly it kinda feels that theres exaggeration or a "trend" along the lines of "german grammar is impossible because everyone says so" even if it's not THAT gory, yk?

Any new language IS gonna be hard at first- thats a given. And some languages like arabic / chinese / japanese / korean are listed at the top for difficulty. Ik that german grammar has many many rules and has exceptions... Linguistic sites say thats a reason for its complexity and the majority of learners agree with "yeah it's too difficult"

But tbh?? Idk

At this point it feels like a stereotype that was based off facts at first but then got negatively exaggerated?? I think yes german grammar is more "detailed" than the english norm / other grammar rules but it isnt monstrous like whats being often said and spread about it?

Thats why I wanna hear an authentic objective thought on this from a german if you dont mind🎤

i really don't think German is one of the most difficult languages to learn. if you're an english native speaker the things you might struggle the most with are:

- pronunciation (harsher sounds, less soft than english, äöü sounds. when you have someone who can correct you this isn't as difficult to learn)

- grammar (lots of rules and lots of exceptions as well. words are gendered with der, die, das /feminine, masculine, neutral. also learning how to decline words can be tricky as well, but i think that just comes down to memorisation and practice)

- the sheer volume of vocabulary. a lot of words are HIGHLY specific (which is the fun part to be honest. there's lots of german words that are difficult to translate to english bc of this. an example would be the German word "doch" which is something similar to "yes it is" or "is not, is too")

i can imagine the difficulty level might be similar to learning french (at least from what i can compare). honestly i can only judge this so far, at work i do have lots of people around me who are just starting to learn the language, these are a few things that i saw them struggle with as well.

i think it mostly comes down to dedication and interest. you do have to put in a lot of effort, but you obviously have to do that for every language.

i think German gets a bad rep for sounding harsh and brutal, but i think it sounds quite beautiful. here's a little comp of German words i appreciate.

Maus - literally means mouse, but more recently has become youth slang. you can call someone "eine süße Maus" / literally a cute mouse / when they did something nice for example. Maus is originally gendered female = die Maus, but is used in a gn way like this. Meine Follower sind zum Beispiel richtig süße Mäuse 🥰

also used as an adjective (mausig)

Fremdschämen - being embarrassed for someone else. Wenn ich sehe, dass Lucifer redet als hätte er drei Wörterbücher verschluckt, schäme ich mich fremd.

unschön - unattractive, unpleasant. this one isn't special but it's my morally acceptable way of saying "well that fucking sucked" at work. Das ist jetzt aber unschön verlaufen.

including other companions bc ive seen ppl have problems hooking up with melodie too but there is/was a podge-specific bug ill get to after the general stuff. disclaimer first tho english is not my native language & i dont play on steam so cant code dive properly BUT essentially:

podge, elton & melodie’s routes require some initial investment in charisma—not a lot (2 dots is fine) but the higher ur charisma the higher the modifier will be during romance checks, which will help you pass even if your relationship score with them isnt the best/mid range 2/3 dots. in the same vein some of the convictions your character can have also act as modifiers. what ive been able to piece together is that:

melodie likes when you uphold & respect the litany/tradition & the three families, but keep humans/nomi at a distance or out of the picture entirely for their own safety

elton likes when you maintain dignity in your situations, are logical/calculative making decisions & successful in your chosen means to an end (failing rolls is swagless behavior he will judge you)

podge likes when you weaponize your Rage—not necessarily escalating everything to violence (but it is a fair bit of that lmao) but in terms of like challenging the litany/tradition/authority, protecting the weak/disadvantaged

nin likes when you remain level-headed/composed, keep an open mind, respect her as a person/don’t treat her different as a wolfborn, utilize & accept your spiritual third as garou—recognize that cultivating gaia with kindness & hope are as important as protecting her with teeth & claws

TLDR for best relationship modifiers:

Elton: 2 or more dots in Charisma, high Find Purpose Through Dignity conviction

Melodie: 2 or more dots in Charisma, high The Litany Sustains Us conviction

Podge: 2 or more dots in Charisma, high Our Weapon Is Rage conviction

Nin: 2 or more dots in Composure, high Our Answer Is Spirit conviction

so the issue with podge’s route from what i can tell was a coding error that has since been fixed by kyle, basically during the first date most people opt to kiss podge back, which obviously boosts your romance score but at that point in time it boosted it past the threshold check for the sex scene & locked you out of it for both opportunities LOL. this is no longer the case but if your game hasn’t updated since May (not on version: 52507) you will have to play hard to get with podge (dont kiss him back) or your ass is NAWT getting dicked down later. all other scenes proceeds as normal tho

hopefully this helps!! im currently (slowly) playing thru again testing more stuff so i might update this or make a more detailed cleaner post in the future ^^

I just read and observe people and then after some time I eventually pick up on their habits and the way they talk and that’s what I did while learning English

Obviously I knew English because I learnt it in school but I never spoke it and I wasn’t great at communicating in it because where I live we usually speak my mother tongue which is pashto and urdu (I live in pakistan btw)

I’m 20 so before I was 17 when I started learning, that too because I got into this phase where I didn’t like talking to people and just reading and writing and on my phone and the quarantine really helped lol so that made me learn English and eventually get introduced to all the western media

And I because I had been always very close to my family so we watched the same shows and I wasn’t really at all on social media, probably because the lack of knowing English so I felt kind of insecure being on social media if I wasn’t able to understand the stuff on it, so no idea of western celebs or anything like that (I knew the very famous ones like angelina jolie etc because once I saw her face printed on a bag while I was shopping when I was like 12 and I though she was gorgeous anyways I’m rambling!!! Now hahah)

Anyways the point is, sometimes it makes me feel like, social media and real life are two different planets because the stuff on it so flabbergasting and weird (but also it has its many good sides and effects as well like talking to people and that’s great for me cause I love talking to people) but What kind of makes me sad is that it’s not 2 different planets, it’s all the same and the people who are so unkind and crazy on the internet are among us

i mostly learned english from reading and watching movies etc as well actually but then again i was very young (i was fully fluent by the time i was around 9 i think) and children pick up languages very fast and i live in sweden where american and english media and pop culture is very widespread and part of the culture (probably bc sweden is a western country and america is very dominant in western media in general) so people learn english very well and easily here like swedes are known for it and foreigners often struggle to learn swedish bc the natives all switch to english when they notice u dont speak swedish so lots of foreigners and immigrants have to straight up ask people to talk to them in swedish more so they can learn and practice it lol but i think that goes to show that the best way to learn a language is to watch and read media in that language and observe it in casual conversation rather than just go by how ur taught it in classes etc

i honestly think its a good thing that u didnt partake in social media when u were younger. i think a lot of the people that dont seperate social media from real life are the ones who started using it early so they have almost spent more time in the social media and online world than the actual real world and get less real world interactions than online ones. i think its very unhealthy to not be able to seperate the 2 and just like u said, the online world and the real world are 2 different things and people forget that they are interacting with real living humans thru the screen and thats when it gets toxic and crazy and hostile. people kind of lose their social skills when they only interact with others behind a screen and its very concerning. ive always talked to ppl online the way i would talk face to face and its always weird to me when others dont do the same bc its like would u say these things ur saying online if the person was face to face with u? if u wouldnt then just dont. its cowardly and embarrassing behavior and its just gonna rot ur brain and soul and make u lose touch with reality and how u connect to others on a human level

hello! hope ur doing well! i love reading ur answers and getting to know more abt u sm! its just amazing how days go by so quickly and busily like u blink and suddenly its 4 of them passed already! apologies! unlike u, im still infant-level fan to kpop (got pulled by skz) and being as hyperfocused on skz as i was, dont know any other kpop groups like i do skz sadly, but i do love music! i love shinee's stuff sm!!! and my best friend really likes xdinary heroes so im getting into them too! and txt just have some of the funnest bsides so their discography gets scoured too lmao. i just dont know any grps members or anything well, but yeah! like u said, lots of good music raining down. i will never understand ppl's bias against non native language songs-esp when they like english stuff and its not their mother tongue!-bcs kpop has such a range. so many interesting sounds, artists and genres!! from past year ive really found myself drawn to soft-ish(?) k-indie/rock a lot! u asked for newer artists (ik so less abt bands. this is a personal failure</3) some of my favorites i think are: lee go do, mingginyu, nerd connection! akmu, heo hoy kyung, se seo neon, etc etc just lots of solo lowkey artists and songs lmao. there's smth abt the lapping continuity of soft sounds and forming of language like that which enthralls me a lot. i really adore loud and wonderful girl group songs as well!! i listen to girl groups a whole lot more than bgs which is surprising bcs i love skz, but their immaculate energy and style! really love aespa, rv, loona! stayc, twice, billie, izone and others! do u listen to lucy the band? their stuff's really fun as well! i rambled sm lmao but yeah. music is so exciting in so many aspects its amazing. i love listening to a lot of languages and genres too! mostly bcs my brain's engagement is a pinball game and i am keeping it amused with fifty different things at the same time. which is why i just have a lot of recs for songs but none for artists bcs i collect and find interesting stuff but get obsessed easily, which makes it difficult to get into every artist particularly. would love to trade playlists or songs once this secret santa is over if ud be comfortable with that! my dad has been saying for years that he wants to learn english but he refuses to start classes bc he wants to find one that will make him like native-speaker level fluent in less than a year. my guy that is not how learning a language works, you dont even have like a basic understanding of english. that isnt a dig or an insult learning a new language you know almost nothing about as a fully grown man is gonna be hard!!!!! i started studying english when i was like, 6, which is probably the best age to start learning, and it still took me 7 years to become more or less fluent!!!! its not gonna happen overnight!!!! just go to fisk or ccaa like the rest of us

For me it is because it took me a very very very long time to get she/he right. 20+ years. I mixed them up all the time as an ESL (english as second lang). I got looks, got corrected, didnt look good in a professional biz environment. Would lose points in english exams and tests at all levels. Looot of consciousness about it. He/she doesnt exist in my native language so my brain just didnt go there. My mind just glazed over that part of the sentence, automatically adding whatever came to my tongue. Finally at my forties i started using it consistently correctly.

Enter 2020s, when now i have to be even more conscious about it AND go against the school grammar ingrained in my brain. Again, i’m not native english, very hard to suddenly mental shift to “this is for the mental health of ppl who can’t hear me right now, bc they are not here, since i’m referring to them in sing/3rd” from grammar ingrained by school.

Not getting pronouns right (referring to my boss as “he” when she was a lady x million times etc) made me aware for decades that i’m an immigrant who cant even get basic grammar right. So must be not that smart…

Now it makes me even more aware and frankly my speech is stop and go to think about they/them and my fluency is worse. On top of that i need to think about the other person i’m talking to. The chinese mom at school (esl, less years here in english land than me) had to retranslate in her head who “them” are and then clarify if i’m talkiing about my child or my child and hers too? Leads to awkward questions and situations and misunderstanding. Communication is hard enough for many of us with a looot of side eyes and looks received bc of our accent, silly grammatical mistakes etc. i know bc i’ve been on the receiving end of it for decades. Ppl do judge you on your accent and grammar and how you communicate. Again, bc in school we learned they/them is and must be generally plural 3rd >>It is ingrained in you and you lose points at tests.

It will take decades for me to unlearn it. Decades.

I CAN use it, by consciously unlearning things. For years. I think ppl are not that diligent and also dont think this is priority. Being comfortable is easier than unlearning things you unconsciously use for long long years. It is mental effort. A lot goes into this, and i think in the long run it will happen, just not now.

I dont think any language learner would agree that “grammar is fake”?

i've never understood the argument "I just can't use they/them for a singular person, it's grammatically incorrect." first of all that's not even factually correct, it's grammatically correct. second of all, why do you care more about grammar than the mental health and well-being of other people? grammar is fake, we made it up. other people and their feelings are real. reconsider your priorities

and i’ve heard of georgia. idk much about it tho lol. i only know of it bc when i was in grade 8, for fun (literally FOR FUN 💀 SKSJSK), i memorized all of the countries of the world and where they’re located on a map lol i was a huge nerd ig skjdksjd so yeah i’m familiar with georgia but ik like nothing about it sksjsk and the alphabet is sooo pretty pLS. is it an easy alphabet to learn? like compared to english let’s say lol

and we learn english at school, from grade 1 up until grade 12 but the level is VERY LOW. we use the same A2-3 or smth levels EVERY SINGLE YEAR so it gets very infuriating as someone who's i guess ahead of everyone else because i know all that stuff already 😭😭😭 and yeah english grammar is a bit confusing but it's nothing compared to russian AND ESPECIALLY GEORGIAN GRAMMAR. as a native speaker,,,, yeah georgian grammar is fucking hell. it may look simple but it's far more difficult than english, german, italian, french & all that jazz :/ its a very difficult langauge overall. sometimes even i'm not fluent in it, that's how difficult the grammar is 😭😭

also grade 8 u was insane bcuz WHY?? WOULD U DO THAT 😞😞 i can't even memorize the name of my own country were you okay??? and yeah our culture is actually very unique and just overall based more on the artistic side. we have our own dances, singing, our own food, clothing and a very very long history. we may be small but we have definitely kept our traditions throughout the centuries and i'm very proud of that, so that stuff is also very hard to get used to when it comes to foreigners visiting or even moving here because it's VERY different from other places. as for the alphabet oH GOD NO ITS DEFINITELY VERY HARD TO LEARN, we spend at least 4 years with different types of textbooks that are specifically made to learn how to write the letters with step-by-step tutorials and guides. we also have some letters shortened a bit like ლ,დ so it's even more confusing for people who aren't fluent to read what we write 😭😭 and as the years pass everyone develops their own calligraphy (which is even more unique because of our strange alphabet) yet we can still somehow understand what the other is writing? it's very weird and definitely not an easy language or an alphabet to learn for foreigners.

ALSO YEAH WHAT IM WRITING IS KINDA?? HEADCANONS??? bulletpoints? idfk atp its a mixture of drabble + headcanon + bulletpoint and i had the time of my life writing it but now im too lazy to proofread (which i probably wont do at the end of the day OOPS) and write for the two members that i have left :///// and i'll give sort of a hint (?) it has smth to do with enhypen and highschool 😋😋 the rest is up to your imagination (well until it's released ofc) its smth that i haven't really done before cuz i usually do normal bulletpoints so it's kinda hard for me but Oh well there's a first for everything and i need to step out of my comfort zone sometimes 😈💪

the actual korean examples themselves are air tight and dont have any errors!! the error anon and i mentioned was just a small mistake in the english text, so it’s nothing to worry about bc it’s v easy to spot and ignore ^^ i still strongly recommend htsk as the best resource for self studying korean. as for trying to improve, listening to korean podcasts and reading native books has helped a lot + imo talking to native speakers is the best help 🥰 hope that helps!! have a great day 🤍

Oh my god angel anon this is so sweet, and lmao you're right I'm not a native speaker like at all, tbvvh I struggle a lot w english, always have like I'd score the lowest in it out of all my subjects in high school, ugh my total percentage always took a hit bc of it -_- wont ever stop being salty about it ngl, so no I've had no real training whatsoever beyond like the general compulsory learning in school, and also anybody who chats w me for like more than a minute will immediately know that idgaf about spellings or sentence structure or general coherency in my day to day english, Lmao which reminds me the other day I literally told someone I ~idealize~ I look up to in every way possible when it comes to writing *cough* Jenn @cbk1000 *cough* that “……blah something blah…..I teached...blah blah” while talking and I didnt notice it for like a hot second and Jenn is too sweet (sort of) to point it out but oh my god I was mortified by it when I realized what I had said, but honestly what throws me is that I didn't really notice it was wrong for a long time and like I thought it was a-ok until it hit me that it’s taught.

So in all honesty my english is as good as any non-native speaker who had to learn the language growing up strictly for school purposes.

That being said in my ff writing I just try really really pathetically hard when I write, like the pretension leaps out and tries to reproduce whatever I myself have consumed so far in terms of writing and recycle it as my own crap, I just have this ability (it's not a special thing everyone does it lmao) to subsume what I read and I mostly just take sentences, metaphors and other writerly things sometimes even just the mood/setting of the writing that strike me and rewrite it w an added touch of pretension and it's actually really tangible how much I allow what I read to drastically affect how I write and since I read a weird eclectic mix of really….just a lot of different things that shouldn't really go together lol, my writing style/ narrator voice/ mood setting for my ff also varies a lot, like one day I write Klaus w a satire and critical wit that’s not exactly Voltaire but close, where he’s pretty much just disgusted by everything and decides to mock it all with a straight face and the next day I write him as a lil pining shit with saccharine levels of romanticism in my writing to appeal to his artist-soul mostly bc I sat my ass down and read a poem or two by Keats prior to writing, other days he’s cute and murderous, wears human teeth as jewelry and is just a tiny bit poignant bc I had a date with Poe….so yeah basically what I’m trying to say is that the only "training" I've ever had is what I've already read all these years and what I write is just all the text I've kept w myself and can recollect and re-arrange into my own writing, which is why I would never consider my work to be something that’s completely and originally mine bc I have this personal saying that goes, 

“Everything I see is an image of an image.”

Which to me means a lot of things but in this particular context means that nothing I create belongs to me and only me, it belongs to every writer I’ve read before writing it and will be reminisced by every author who I’ll read after it, that everything I create is just what creators before me have done but have allowed me to take their creations and make it mine before I too pass it on with love and history to the next person.

I also have another quote I feel in every inch of my heart and that’s

So really this is just my personal...philosophy?? Belief, that I owe my creativity to the world and everything it creates *through* me because I don't own the beauty, I’m only a lens through which it passes through, that my creativity refracts the world's beauty into my life and my creations, and I am glad, blessed to have been the lens through which such beauty passes through.

And that I am more than happy to just be another image who is someone else’s reflection or the very object someone else will reflect, I love how much that connects every human being and every object of beauty, of creation in existence inescapably.
