barely biting back the urge to get a high end performance pair of climbing shoes bc most intermediate ones are only like. a tenner less so if im investing i might as well go straight to the top right...?
#but i dont want to stunt my technical progress by getting ones that do all the footwork for me u know. bc i am still intermediate#but also idk if thats even a real issue i should be worried abt#shoes are the main thing preventing me hitting the next level bc hire shoes slip edging tiny holds so i dont have confidence#theyre super worn + have shitty rubber so theres no grip. and they have no structure + fit badly so i cant do any precise footwork#worst of both worlds#i had a pair of my stepdads old ones for years and years but the soles fully fell off and anyway they were too big for me#and i said after that i would get my own. but i still havent#the one issue is that high end shoes tend to be oriented towards a specific type of climbing style so u kinda have to trade off-#between softness/grip and stiffness/support if youre not willing to get 2+ pairs for different climbs#but also tbh any high end shoe is gonna have both better edging AND smearing capacity than the shitty ones im using#bc even softer more sensitive ones still have more structure to them. and i mainly climb indoors ANYWAY so theres a limit to how-#narrow they can make plastic holds + theres almost always plenty of surfaces available w good friction + i dont yet have the-#strength to do any crazy underhangs or toe/heel hooks so. and if i really pick it up i can invest in another pair#hrmmmmm#keep seeing vapours recommended but ive heard theyre not very smeary. so im thinking skwamas but theyre barely cheaper than instinct vsrs#which are the more 'expert' level ones + apparently as good a balance as u can get. i think i need to find some more reviews#running around in circles thinking abt this.... ik im only doing it to distract myself thinking abt moving plans LOL#.diaries
