Brady & Jules
5.) "I never want us to forget why we fell in love in the first place."
With a sigh, Juliet climbed into bed, avoiding looking at the place where her husband should be.
He was away at a marching band competition, and he had assured her heād be home before they went to bed, but Olivia and Janieās bedtime had come and gone with no sign of him, and Juliet had tucked them in with soft promises that their father would be there to say hello in the morning.
She heard the familiar sound of the garage door opening and the jingle of keys in the dish by the door, her husband clearly trying to enter as quietly as he could.
As she heard him come upstairs and peek into the girlsā room, part of her longed to turn over, to see him enter their bedroom with what surely was a reasonable explanation for his tardiness and kiss her worries of the evening away.
But a larger part of her leaned into her stubbornness, and she feigned sleep as their bedroom door opened and John climbed into bed with a whispered apology and a brush of his lips to her cheek.
There was an odd distance between them now, John apologizing the next morning, saying there was an accident on their way back and traffic had backed up, so they hadnāt gotten back to the school until well after dark. Juliet had accepted his apology, and tried to get things back to normal, but there was still something nagging at her as she threw herself into the daily routine of kiss husband goodbye, get kids off to school, do housework, pick kids up from school, make dinnerā
She was clearing out one of the cabinets in the studyā her little library, as John liked to call itā when she came across an old photo book filled with pictures from when she and John had first started dating. Grinning as she flipped through the memories, she tried to think back to when the two of them had last had some true time alone andā¦
She couldnāt.
Since Janie had been born, theyād tried to have at the very least two date nights a month, but then John had taken on more responsibilities as director of the Victor High School marching band, and Jules was trying to juggle taking care of two wonderful children instead of just one and alone time had fallen by the wayside.
Sheād planned to ask him about a potential date night when he came home from work that evening, but it seemed her husband had come to a similar conclusion and spoke up first.
āWhat would you say to us having a weekend away?ā Heād said as he dried dishes at the sink beside her, their daughters off watching tv in the living room.
āUs and the girls?ā She asked, already mentally planning what sheād need to pack for them.
āNo,ā John said carefully, āI was thinking just the two of us.ā
Seeing the protests already forming in her mind, he continues, āI already called the Crosbys, and Harry said he and Jean would be happy to have the girls over for the weekend.ā
He sets the dripping plate in his hands on the drying rack, turning to face Jules as he takes her hands in his.
āI know itās been too long since weāve had time together just the two of us, and Iām so sorry about that, sweetheart. Will you let me fix that, please?ā
Unable to fight off the tender smile growing on her face, Juliet nods.
āOf course, Johnny,ā she says softly, her thumb stroking gently along his cheek.
That weekend, they drive into the city to drop the girl off with their Uncle Harry and Aunt Jeanā ābe good!āā before turning towards the mystery destination that John still hasnāt told her about.
āYouāll know it when we get there,ā heād assured her.
And as they drove along increasingly familiar streets towards their hotel, Jules realized she did.
āJohnny, did youā?ā
āCornell territory,ā he grins, recalling her words to him the first night they met.
Jules lets out an incredulous laugh as she looks out at her old stomping grounds as a student.
Once theyāve dropped off their luggage, John takes his wife by the hand and takes her out for a stroll thatās a near step-for-step recreation of their first date, down to the diner they stop at next to one of many old bookstores sheād dragged him to back in the fall of 1940.
āJohnny, this is lovely,ā she gushes over their milkshakes, āButā¦ how in the world did you think of it?ā
He smiles, the shy shrug of his shoulders bringing her back to that college senior sheād met in a bar all those years ago.
āYouāve been the love of my life since we met, Jules,ā John says, āAnd I never want us to forget why we fell in love in the first place.ā
There simply arenāt words for the emotions welling up in her at his tender words, and so she leans across the table to capture her husband's lips in a kissā just like theyād done all those years before.
Benny & Vika
14.) āLet's get dressed up for dinner tonight." "We just cooked-" "We don't have to go out!"
āLetās get dressed up for dinner tonight.ā
Benny DeMarco sees his wife stiffen out of the corner of his eye where sheās setting the table and quickly realizes he made a mistake not giving her more context.
In his defense, he was mostly just thinking about a way to get her into that red dress he likes.
Vikaā who on any other night would love her husband to whisk her away for a night outā is confused and more than a little upset at her husbandās sudden idea as she glances back to the pots simmering on the stove.
āWe just cookedāā
āWe donāt have to go out!ā Benny scrambles to say, moving from his place on the couch to stand in front of her, trying to placate her. āJustā¦ I thought it might be nice for us to have a date night in tonight. We havenāt had much of a chance to get dressed up just because lately.ā
āOh,ā she softens, deep brown eyes melting like chocolate, āBenny, that sounds lovely.ā
āI try.ā He grins.
Vika glances back to the stove, doing some mental math.
āAlright, wellā¦ Iāll keep an eye on the stove while you get dressed, and then when youāre done all you need to doāā
āVika,ā he says, directing his wifeās attention back to him, āYou just go get changed, tesoro, Iāll worry about dinner.ā
āBennyā¦ā
āDonāt worry, Iāve got it all under control.ā
Luckily he does have it all under control, as tonightās dinner is the pasta that Benny himself taught Vika how to make, and he relies solely on muscle memory as he waits for Vika to re-emerge.
The click clack of heels on the kitchen tile alerts him to his wifeās arrival as heās plating dinnerā having swapped out their usual plates for the slightly nicer ones that were a wedding gift from the Bradys.
As he looks up, Vika twirls shyly, a gold pin nestled in her dark waves complementing her usual jhumka necklace, andā Benny thanks every deity he can think ofā the skirt of his favorite red dress fanning out around her.
āWill this do, Mr. DeMarco?ā
Benny works his way around the table to pull Vika into his arms, his smile growing impossibly wide.
āYou look perfect, Mrs. DeMarco.ā
He beams at her attempt to bite back a smileā hearing her married name never fails to bring a smile to her face, and Benny adores itā and continues.
āYou always look perfect, of course, but tonightā¦ā
His gaze traces over her wide brown eyes sparkling with joy, gorgeous red-lipped smile, down to the dazzling diamond on her left hand.
āGod, how did I get so lucky?ā
Vika leans up onto her tiptoes to press a tender kiss to his mouth.
āI ask myself that every day, my love.ā She smiles, pulling him back into the dining room, āNow come on. Iām hungry, and somebody made me go get dressed up instead of letting me finish dinner.ā

Try list any Octo-Agents and think of an Episode you Think give them a Shining Moment
W O O F this took a whileā I was thinking long and hard about this because there are SO MANY good moments and episodes š
, and so many agentsā it was difficult, but Iām happy with my answers š
Ranger Marshās Shine Episode is definitely The Monitor Lizards. I LOVE this episode, itās one of my favourites in the whole series so farānot just because of the events in it, but as a concept. I LOVE the callback to the Great Swamp Search!! I watched the 2nd season blind, and seeing all these familiar faces was SUCH a fun surprise. Itās good for Ranger Marsh as a character, because it actually shows him doing his job as a Ranger, not as an Octo-Agent. It also reinforces the fact that he truly cares for and is friends with these creatures, even if they are invasive, and that he's willing to travel to check in on them. This is another episode that also proves (to me) that the writers know theyāre dealing with an older audience for the show, and are more likely to delve into solid lore and continuity. This episode makes me really hopeful for more of that.
Natquikās Shine Episode, WITHOUT QUESTION, is The Red Fox. Honestly I feel like I donāt need to explain why, but I will because I like talking āØ: Natquik is my favourite Octo-Agent, but overall we havenāt actually gotten that many episodes dedicated to him yet. The Red Fox gives us a close and personal look into what Natquik is like by himself (I love episodes where characters are alone š), how he deals with problems (by ignoring them until they get worseāwhich is interesting... *stares at Barnacles*...), and even hints toward his family, by showing us his family portraits, and leaving us wondering, āWhere are they?ā ā There are so many moments I love in this episode, from when he first discovers the kits, decides to help them stay warm, rushes to protect Barnacles, to his bittersweet goodbye at the end. Itās all so perfect.
Tracker absolutely shines in The Missing Lake. Honestly, he shines a LOT in Above and Beyond, considering he never got his own episode in the main series, and was only in Operation Deep Freeze for two scenes. AnB has been really good to Tracker, and Iām so grateful they decided to make him an Agent. The Missing Lake sticks out to me the most, because for the most part he is by himself (and Iāve already mentioned my love for that <3), and unlike all his other episodes, we get to really see him be responsible and use his Polar Scout skills in action. Heās often portrayed as a follower, who just goes along with whatever he's told to do, but he takes charge twice in this episode: when he offers to help Rowan, and when he stays behind to save Buck. Love that for him.
Calico Jack. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Calico Jack....... I could talk forever about this funky old cat man. He doesnāt just shine, he GLOWS in every episode heās inābut alas, for the sake of this post I will be focusing on The Harlequin Duck. I love the showing of his gentle parental instincts in this episode, and his singing; since we know he canonically has a theme song, that I headcanon he wrote himself. I think far too much, and often, about how he legit panicked when he realized the egg was missing. How his first instinct was to hide that fact from Captain Barnacles. He was terrified, having a full blown panic attack on screen. He apologizes to the mother duck with such genuine solace, and promises to get it back āOn [his] honour as a pirate!ā ...Which is extremely significant to me, considering Kwazii was the first character to EVER say the phrase: āOn me honour as an Octonaut!ā in The Flying Fish after Inklingās book was lost ā and of course as a final touch, I adore seeing him work with Pete to get the egg back. The way he tosses the egg in the air, fully trusting that Pete will catch it... theyāre so in sync, just as pirate and parrot are meant to be ;)
Paani... I feel like thereās so much more to him than what weāve seen so far, it almost feels unfair to assign him a āShine Episodeā. So, instead of highlighting a single episode, Iāll quickly talk about three that stick out (PS: you might sense a theme š¤£):
The Barnacle Geese - Uncle Paani. I like the āIāll be my own uncleā joke, and the Edgar Allen Poe reference. I think Paaniās determination to help the chick (who doesnāt seem to want help) is nice to watch, and helps to prove his worthiness as an Agentāwhich is always fun considering his hesitance when Barnacles tried to recruit him in S1E1. In a way, this episode also makes Paani seem more like Barnacles. See my old post analyzing the showās intro. (*Stares at the episode title* šļøšļø)
The Arabian Camels - Take a shot of cocoa every time I mention my love for episodes where characters are forced to be by themselves. This one is especially interesting to me though, because we know that Paani was alone, for a very long time, before he met the Octonauts. He has no trouble working and getting by alone, and we get to see him exhibiting that, while being out of his element (a dry desert) at the same time; and thatās really cool.
The Lonely Frog - ...Yāknow how they constantly make the Octonauts/Agents meet creatures with similar issues to them? Yeah. *Stares at the episode title.* *Stares at the end scene where he says āKinda like when I met you guys!ā before obnoxiously jumping into the lake, in response to Shellington+Peso saying āThey never even knew each other existed before! [...] and now itās like theyāve known each other all their lives!ā* *STARES MORE AT THE EPISODE TITLE,,* *wonders how long Paani was actually alone before becoming an Agent...*
Pinto, where art thou? He wasnāt in S2 at all, which was a bit disappointing since we just saw him get an Octowatch in S1. I wouldāve expected him to be pressing that button every chance he got, giving us a āPenguin who cried Octoalertā episode. But anyway,, The Curious Penguin is the PERFECT episode for Pinto. It shows his personality really well, and I love how his distractions and the things he learns and discovers help him to save the day in the end. I think Pinto (just like Kwazii) is a good portrayal of ADHD, and how he just needs to be in the right environment to succeed. Each time Pinto messes up or loses focus, isnāt because he was left alone and couldnāt be trustedāitās because he was left alone and understimulated. So when heās thrown into a sudden high-stakes situation, all of his focus hones in on the moment, and heās able to save Dashi and Paani by himself.
AND, because you didnāt say it had to be an Above and Beyond moment, I want to throw some love at The Oarfish episode from the main series. In this episode, Pinto no longer views Peso as ālessā than an Octonaut, and is so excited to watch him do his jobāitās really cute!! His impulsivity is once again a positive thingāgranted, it seems to annoy Peso a little, but when you think about it he kinda saved the day by being impulsive. He sounded the Octoalert without permission, which let the captain know to come back before their radio signal cut out, and by being unafraid of the āmonsterā and swimming outside, he was able to discover what the problem was so that Peso could help. He did good.
Pearl.... I love Pearl a lot, but I canāt think of one specific episode that comes to mind for her. I love The Pupfish because it introduces Peri to AnB, and I love how he teaches her how to tie a knot, so she can save the algae (and Glen). I like The Bison episode because itās interesting watching her not doing something with algae for once, and The Pink Glacier because her and Kwaziiās dynamic was something I didnāt know I needed, but now I want more of (/p).
Ryla. Possibly controversial opinion: I liked Ryla in The Caves of Sac Actun, more than I like her now in Above and Beyond. I know sheās only gotten 3 episodes so far, but sheās really missing something. Sac Actun gave us lore on her right off the bat: sheās old friends with Dashi, sheās a skilled cave explorer, sheās spunky, sheās purple. AnB hasnāt given us much yet. So far her only shtick is caves, and thatās getting a bit repetitive. Consider every moment she has in Sac Actun as her āShining Momentā, because honestly that whole movie is a 10/10.
Koshi,,,, she hasn't gotten that much yet, but I'm gonna say The Longfin Eels is her Shine Episode. I like the way she narrates the whole episode, because it's very in-character. Plus we know sheās literally writing about this adventure in her diary as she's telling it, as if it were a mystery book. She reminds me of narrators from 1920s film noirs, and thatās cool. Also! Honorary mention of the scene when she gets her Octowatch: I loved that for her <3
Min is below the cut, because my answer for her includes some very heavy SEASON 5 SPOILERS, including SCREENSHOTS:
All of Min's appearances so far are dear to my heart. However, my favourite has to be her own introductory episode: The Giant Chinese Salamander.
The Rainforest Rescue is another amazing episode for Mināsheās a wonderful character on her own, of courseābut I think we can all agree that she and Inkling are very adorable together (no matter how you interpret their relationship).
When Above and Beyond aired on Netflix, there was a lot of confusion around Min, from the younger audience and other fans who hadnāt seen S5. The Giant Chinese Salamander introduces Min with a 20-minute special; showing her in high-stakes action with Kwazii, bonding with the Octonauts, being an all-around Cool Personā¢, and a flashback of how she met Inkling when they were younger.
She saved his life. He was thrown far inland by a rough storm, and was trapped until she found him. I honestly headcanon that Min partially (if not outright) inspired Inkling to form the Octonauts, and this moment could have literally sealed the fate of EVERYTHING we know.
But! Until S5 comes out, that's all I've got to say~ šš
