This #wonderfulweekend we're celebrating ±OnePercent (2010)! ±OnePercent was published by the founding members of #MarginaliaPress, the graduate press of the MA Art and the Book program at the #Corcoran College of Art and Design. "Comprised of three books in a multi-layered, nested structure, the work contains traditional #letterpress, as well as contemporary digital, #collagraph, #screenprinted and #etched imagery and text rendered on a combination of mill-made and handmade papers, and cloth. The binding techniques of the work follow an arc from traditional to modern, including ancient #Coptic, multi-faceted accordion/flag, and sculptural spiral fold methods. This layering symbolizes the complex nature of genetics and seeks to examine and artistically visualize the connections made as the human genome works to build life." Edition of 40. #doublehelix #accordionbook #flagbook. #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.17.17

For #throwbackthursday, we're featuring #SimonRedington's _Shake  the ballad of the blue jean bop_ (2014), inspired by a #rockabilly song first recorded in 1956 by Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps. #letterpress #leather Redington: 'I started with the idea of a book on jazz or blues using phonetic phrasings of scat or blues verse ... however it somewhere transformed into a homage to the rock'n'roll icon Gene Vincent, lacing his song 'Be Bop a Lula' around shapes and colours that have autobiographical resonances with my own childhood holidays on and around Brighton Pier.' #KamikazePress #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.15.17 (at Moody Library)

#tourtuesday #typetuesday in honor of next month's #TourdeFrance, we're sharing this great #letterpress #portfolio from #LeadGraffiti press in Newark. The _Tour de Lead Graffiti : 23 posters in 23 days paralleling the 2011 Tour de France_ was a collaborative printing extravaganza among visiting printers with the goal of translating memorable incidents from each stage of the 2011 tour as it was happening. #woodtype #metaltype #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.20.17 (at Baylor University)

#memorymonday Today we remember the haunting and powerful work of #SherylOring in her piece entitled _Collective memory_ (2012). This piece functions as a portable exhibition based on the 2011 public performance of the same name held in Bryant Park, New York City, on the 10th anniversary of September 11th. Published in 2012 in an edition of 10, each box contains 315 digitally printed index cards with messages dictated during the Collective Memory performances held on September 9, 10, and 11, 2011 along with steel clips for displaying and a DVD with a 7-minute video documenting the performances. #Sept11 #NYC #911 #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.19.17

#woolywednesday Today's BBAC feature is #KatyaReka 's _Wide White Holes (2013). One-of-a-kind artist's book. Santa Fe artist Reka had this to say about the work: "Wide white holes is an exploration of natural textures within the form of the book. Handmade wool felt cover echoes the burn holes of the book pages. In my new work, I am addressing the impermanence and perfection of the natural materials, beauty of decay and fragility of memory. The paper for this book was made by hand and dried on hot adobe walls. Felt cover made from sheep's wool and dyed with nettles." #handmadepaper #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.14.17

#tinytuesday AND #tunnelbooktuesday both tiny and tunnelbooky is today's feature, #SamGarriottAntonacci 's _Point of Origin_ (1999). A delightful one of a kind artist's book in a clamshell box. Sam says about this work: "I see many of my books as histories or small personal documents of people, places, or objects. Point of Origin is a visual telling in a tiny tunnel book form of my family's farm in the Ohio River valley where I spent my childhood and youth. This farm has been in my family for seven generations, and the book references things that were important in that rural life: plants, a mailbox and tractor, and all the autumn colors that I miss now that I live in the Pacific Northwest." #miniature #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.13.67 (at Moody Library)

#mapmonday Today's selection from the BBAC is #IslamAly 's _Echoes_ (2014) Aly says: "I made this book to document the words that were repeated in the streets of #Cairo during the #EgyptianSpring of 2011 when millions of #protesters from a variety of socioeconomic and religious backgrounds demanded the overthrow of the #regime. The people repeated the three words: Bread [livelihood], Freedom, and Social Justice. I used Arabic #Kufic script and spelled the words Eish, Horeya, Adala Egtemaeya -- Bread, Freedom and Social Justice. The book is an effort to remember and reflect on these events. It also serves as a reminder for the revolution's main demands. Additionally, the book incorporates details of Cairo's streets on the front and backboards. Cairo's #map is also laser engraved on three edges of the book." Mould-made #Johannot paper, #LaserEngraved #Ethiopian and #coptic binding. Baylor's copy is number 2 in an edition of 15 and is signed by the artist. #librariesofinstagram #artistsbooks #bookarts #baylorlibraries #specialcollections 6.12.17 (at Moody Library)
