The First Presbyterian Church of Springfield in Springfield, #NewJersey. The congregation was established in 1745. A church was built in 1761 or 1762 and stood here at the time of the #RevolutionaryWar, and was used as a storehouse for armaments. During the Battle of Springfield, June 23, 1780, the #church and village was burned by British troops. The present church building dates to 1791. In 1905, the State of New Jersey erected the statue of a Continental Soldier on the front lawn of the church.
