I'm continuing my NJPW journey and have watched about 2/3 of Battle in the Valley.
The retirement match for Sumie Sakai was wild and beautiful. I loved it. More retirement matches should be like this.
Though the TSA interfering with Takahashi bringing his Tokyo Dome costume to this venue should be considered a crime.

The (Real) Stardew Valley Farm Update 2024
I’m wrapping up my third year trying to grow everything from Stardew Valley in our yard, with substitutions as needed, preferably with Midwest USA native plants.
I’m continuing to battle the invasive plants (why won’t the honeysuckle and thistles stop?????), beg for truckloads of woodchips (Google decided our address isn’t real anymore), and deal with a body and brain that makes going outside impossible sometimes (the past two years have been rough medically). But despite all of that I still managed to make a ton of progress!
Here’s how things stand as of now. If you’re looking back at previous posts you might notice some differences, but that’s mainly because things I planted died (drought + medical crises don’t bode well for newly established plants). I’ve also added the additional crops from the new update.
2021
Amaranth - Native white amaranth
Grape - Native riverbank grapes (so many grapes). I’m hopefully going to successfully propagate some cuttings from the neighbor’s green cultivated variety
Dandelion - Obviously
Maple Tree - Native silver, red, and sugar maples
Pine Tree - Douglas fir
Apple Tree - Three old apple trees of different varieties in very rough shape. I’ve been working to prune them up and two are looking a lot better. I’d love an Enterprise apple tree at some point
Coffee Bean - Chicory (a naturalized plant commonly used as a coffee substitute)
Salmonberry - Native black raspberries since salmonberries aren’t from around here, although I really want to add raspberries of various colors in the future
Starfruit - Native wood sorrel
Cave Carrot - Queen Ann’s Lace, AKA wild carrot
2022
Kale
Rhubarb
Strawberry - Both cultivated and native
Tulip
Radish
Tomato
Eggplant
Fairy Rose - Native prairie rose
Cranberries - Native cranberry viburnum
Orange Tree -Native persimmons, which produce orange fruit
Daffodil
Spring Onion - Native nodding onions
Spice Berry - Native spicebushes
Wild Plum - Native plums
Crocus
Cherry Tree - Native black cherries and nonnative bush cherries
Banana Tree - Native pawpaws, which are also known as Indiana bananas
Sweet Gem Berry - Native Juneberry (Downy Serviceberry)
2023
Garlic - Native wild garlic
Blueberries - I planted three varieties and only one survived. Don’t shortcut your bed preparation, friends
Wild Horseradish - Not wild, but contained with my mint
Hops - Teamaker hops which is good for tea since we’re not alcohol fans
2024
Blue Jazz - Native Ozark Bluestar
Beets
Apricot Tree - Native passionflower vine, also known as wild apricot
Sunflower - Both native and non-native sunflowers
Pumpkin
Cactus Fruit - Native prickly pear cactus
Melon - Cantaloupe
Oak Tree - Native dwarf chinquapin oak, which took me forever to get
Hot Pepper
Palm Tree/coconut - Native palm sedge
Poppy - Native purple poppy mallow, after other native poppies failed. I still want to grow bread seed poppies, though
Corn - Tried some gorgeous colored corn and popcorn that didn’t grow great but they did grow!
Green bean
Hazelnut - They’re supposed to be easy to grow but they do not like me. Third time’s the charm, right?
Carrot
Summer squash
Powder melon - I decided to do honeydew melon because it’s kinda powdery and I don’t really have any other ideas
Planned for 2025 and beyond
Potato
Pineapple - White strawberries (pineberries)
Winter Root - Hopniss, a native root vegetable
Red Cabbage
Artichoke - Native Jerusalem artichokes
Yam
Bok Choy
Leek
Fiddlehead Fern - Ferns do not like me
Blackberry
Crystal Fruit - Probably honey berries, which produce fruit earlier than anything else
Ancient Fruit - Native Aronia berries. They’re blue(ish) and have lots of antioxidants so you live to be ancient
Tea Leaves - Native New Jersey Tea bush. The previous ones were murdered by rabbits
Mango Tree - I thought one of our pawpaws was a variety called mango but I was wrong
Ginger - I want to try growing native wild ginger again
Rice - Native rough-leaved rice grass
Wheat - I have some gorgeous ornamental blue wheat seeds
Summer Spangle - Possibly native prairie lily? I was unsuccessful growing it from seed this year but maybe in the future
Parsnip - I can’t get them to germinate to save my life but one day I will be successful
Sweat pea
Holly - Native winterberry holly
Mushrooms - I'm just gonna ignore varieties and try some plugs or similar
Peach - Vine peach. It’s a melon, and more doable than a tree
Mahogany Tree - I think I’ll resort to mahogany nasturtiums
Broccoli
Pomegranate Tree - I could try Russian pomegranates?
Taro Root - I would have to plant it in pots
Snow Yam - Not actually a yam but maybe native sweet potato vine?
Qi Fruit - Very creepy, not sure what to do with this
Over halfway there! If anyone has suggestions for plants please let me know because I’m still stuck on a few and very open to alternatives.
In other news, I’m making Stardew Valley Fair displays with cross stitch patches for each of the items I’ve added that year. I’ll have to post pics of those at some point.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
System: Nintendo GameCube Release Date: Oct. 17th, 2005 (NA) Genre: Tactical Role-Playing Developer / Publisher: Intelligent Systems / Nintendo
Tumblr media
Completion Date: Jan. 26th, 2025 Playtime: 32.7 Hours (In-Game Time)
Story: Having recently finished it's direct predecessor The Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance's story was a massive improvement. Character writing has always been where the franchise shines, so giving characters extra scenes without having to use the archaic "support" system allows the writers to show off that great work, while also weaving the main story's narrative in with individual party member's. Path of Radiance provides a huge breath of fresh air to said main story by having the main character, Ike, not be an aristocrat, a first for the series. The first third of the game really shines as Ike and his band of mercenaries rush to stay ahead of the invasion of their home country, witnessing the uncaring nature of those whose lives have yet to be effected by the war. This ends up being one of the game's major themes, as we also see this same attitude in the elites of Begnion, and many of the distant Laguz tribes. The story's handling of racism, prejudice, and the propaganda of both, is surprisingly subtle, paralleling Jim Crow-era America, as well as Japan's own imperialist history.
Gameplay: The pacing of the campaign is fairly breezy, although it does start to drag after it's false finale. Level variety is great, with a number of new gimmicks, varied locales, and new clear conditions adding some much needed life to the aging Fire Emblem formula. Battles have a nice flow to them, and as with many other strategy games, it's easy to keep thinking, "one more turn", until it's 2:00AM. Later chapters rely quite heavily on siege weapons/spells to disrupt your game plan, which can be very frustrating with the zoomed in view. You think you're all set until your Pegasus Knight eats a ballista bolt. Despite this, the game is fairly easy. You have all the information before you have to commit to any actions, but making any mistakes or getting bad luck can be very time-consuming due to the series' signature permadeath.
Presentation: This is decidedly the game’s weakest area. The CG cutscenes are wooden and fall into the uncanny valley of neither being realistic nor committing fully to an anime aesthetic. On top of that the audio mixing on them is atrocious, rendering the poorly dubbed characters nearly inaudible. Having stylized, anime-esque cutscenes like Three Houses would've been ideal. The 3D graphics for the map and combat are serviceable, but undoubtedly lack the charm of Fire Emblem 6-8’s gorgeous pixel art. The combat animations feel especially lacking compared to the electrifying animations of those games. Speaking of combat animations, I ended up playing most of the game with them turned off, as the small load times before each one cratered the pacing of battles. The last presentation style the game has are visual novel-esque dialogues that take place in between chapters. The character portraits here feel flat compared to Sachiko Wada's previous work. This style ends up being functional as the conduit for the stellar story, but definitely reflect the game's transitional nature.
Conclusion: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is among the best that the franchise has to offer, and among the best strategy RPGs of all time. It’s an easy recommendation to anyone that has even a passing interest in either category, and a great entry point for series newcomers. I'm personally excited to move on to Radiant Dawn in the future!
Score: 8.5/10.0

Game of the Year 2024
Going through my beaten games posts, here’s what I finished in 2024.
Wario Land 1
Monster Sanctuary
Islets
Chained Echoes
Stardew Valley
FFXIV Dawntrail
Picross S4
Vampire Survivors
Of these, I’d put Stardew Valley, Chained Echoes, and Vampire Survivors on the top of the list, and Dawntrail at the bottom. I’m honestly not sure which is #1! Probably VS...? that hyperfixation was real & I rarely experience something like that.
I also replayed through the Trine series with Majoracle and my brother. We played 1, 2, and 4. We’ll probably get 5 in 2025. We also played through Hammerwatch and most of Borderlands 3, but didn’t finish before our PS+ ran out. The PS+ autorenewed for my brother even though he’d taken off his credit card, because he had used Paypal to buy something during the sales and PS immediately jumped at the opportunity to charge him another way. (total BS!!!). We will probably go for a 3 month sub to finish up sometime and then say “adios Playstation” forever.
Other games I didn’t finish:
Triangle Strategy – I nearly finished it! But came to the conclusion I wasn’t enjoying it and kinda hard stopped.
Final Fantasy Tactics – because I wasn’t enjoying Triangle Strategy I was inspired to play the classic. I got to that battle in Chapter 4 at the ruins with Celia and Lede and then Vampire Survivors happened and I just didn't get back to it.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Majoracle played this constantly, so I kinda got burned out even though I myself wasn’t playing it.
Pokemon Brown – a romhack. I think I just don’t have patience for romhacks. I picked it up after watching a video on romhacks and seeing it had my boy Pidgeot on the cover haha.
Fire Emblem Engage – currently playing!

Why Attend Bhutan Festivals in 2025?
Bhutan festivals, locally known as Tshechus, are not just celebrations but a spiritual experience. Rooted in Vajrayana Buddhism, these festivals are held in monasteries and dzongs (fortresses) across the country, where monks and laypeople gather to perform sacred mask dances, recite prayers, and offer blessings. The Bhutan Festival dates 2025 promises to be even more vibrant, offering an immersive cultural experience for travelers seeking authenticity and spiritual enrichment.
1. Paro Tsechu Festival 2025
The Paro Tsechu Festival is one of the most famous and widely attended festivals in Bhutan. Scheduled to take place in the spring of 2025, this festival is held in the stunning Paro Dzong, a majestic fortress overlooking the Paro Valley. It features sacred mask dances, religious rituals, and the unveiling of the giant Thangka (a sacred Buddhist scroll painting) at dawn, a moment that is believed to bring immense blessings to those who witness it.

Each dance carries a symbolic meaning, often illustrating Buddhist teachings, the triumph of good over evil, or the cycle of life and death.
Why the Bhutanese Mask Dance is Special:
Every movement in the dance is deeply symbolic and conveys religious teachings.
The masks are handcrafted and painted with intricate details, showcasing Bhutanese craftsmanship.
It is believed that witnessing these dances purifies one's soul and brings good luck.
4. Bhutan Cultural Festival 2025 – A Celebration of Bhutanese Heritage
Beyond religious festivals, Bhutan also hosts a variety of cultural festivals that showcase its music, dance, and traditional arts. Jon Reddick - No Fear (Official Music Video)
Jan 13, 2025
LYRICS:
I got enemies at every side It ain’t looking good, I ain’t gonna lie Arrows flying, devil’s trying To make me think I’m going down this time You might think that I’d be afraid Running scared with a shaken faith But the God I know says it ain’t over The God I know is gonna make a way
Yea, though I walk through the valley I will have
No fear, no fear The mighty power of Jesus Is fighting for me here No fear, no fear The light of the world Makes the darkness disappear No fear Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
No fear when I’m walking through the fire ‘Cause I know who’s walking me through No fear when the floodwaters rise If I got my eyes on you
No fear, no fear The mighty power of Jesus Is fighting for me here No fear, no fear The light of the world Makes the darkness disappear No fear Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
Not over my family, not over my future Not over my life, God’s over my life Not over my battles, not over my struggles Not over my life, God’s over my life
Yea, though I walk through the valley I will have

Crews Battling Fast-Moving Brush Fire in Ventura County
Tumblr media
On January 13, 2025, a fast-moving brush fire erupted in Ventura County, California, raising alarm and triggering swift evacuations. Named the “Auto Fire,” the blaze started around 7:15 p.m. near the Santa Clara River, close to Ventura Boulevard and Auto Center Drive. Its rapid spread and proximity to residential and commercial areas, including the Buenaventura and River Ridge Golf Clubs, posed immediate threats, prompting quick responses from local firefighting crews.
Fire Location and Spread
The Auto Fire began in a highly sensitive area near the Santa Clara River, a region vulnerable to wildfires due to its dry vegetation and frequent high winds. The fire quickly advanced, moving toward areas densely populated with homes and businesses. Its path along Ventura Road and the 101 Freeway corridor heightened concerns for public safety.
The Ventura County Fire Department and supporting agencies worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, but gusty Santa Ana winds complicated their efforts. These winds, known for their intensity and dryness, create ideal conditions for wildfires to spread rapidly.
Evacuations and Road Closures
To ensure public safety, mandatory evacuation orders were issued for areas near the Santa Clara River. Authorities evacuated neighborhoods west of Victoria Avenue and east of Auto Center Drive. Additionally, Ventura Police Department closed Victoria Avenue between Gonzalez Road and Olivas Park Drive to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles and to protect the public from hazardous conditions.
Evacuation centers were established to accommodate displaced residents, providing essential services and a safe place to stay during the crisis. Officials urged residents to follow evacuation orders promptly and to remain informed through official updates.

Firefighting Efforts
Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters made significant progress in battling the Auto Fire. Ground crews worked to create firebreaks, while aerial teams dropped water and fire retardants to slow the blaze. However, the presence of the Santa Ana winds added complexity to their efforts.
The winds, with speeds exceeding 30 mph in some areas, not only accelerated the fire’s spread but also made containment lines difficult to hold. Fire officials emphasized the importance of preemptive measures such as vegetation management and fire-resistant landscaping in reducing wildfire risks.

Other Wildfires in Ventura County
The Auto Fire was not the only wildfire reported on January 13. Earlier in the day, small brush fires ignited in Ventura and Simi Valley. A fire near the 101 Freeway and Victoria Avenue burned approximately a quarter-acre before being contained. In Simi Valley, a fire near Madera Road and Easy Street was also brought under control quickly.
These smaller incidents highlight the ongoing vulnerability of the region to wildfire outbreaks, particularly during the dry and windy winter months.
The Role of Santa Ana Winds
Santa Ana winds play a critical role in Southern California’s wildfire dynamics. These strong, dry winds originate inland and funnel through mountain passes toward the coast. They can turn small ignition points into fast-moving infernos, making firefighting efforts more difficult and dangerous.
Meteorologists had forecasted heightened fire risks due to the Santa Ana winds, prompting Red Flag Warnings in Ventura and surrounding counties. These warnings serve as critical alerts for residents and emergency responders, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance during high-risk periods.

Public Safety Measures and Community Support
In response to the increased fire risk, local authorities have stressed the importance of community preparedness. Residents are encouraged to create defensible spaces around their homes, assemble emergency supply kits, and develop evacuation plans.
Community organizations and volunteers have stepped up to support affected residents, providing meals, clothing, and temporary housing. Social media platforms have also played a key role in disseminating real-time updates and safety instructions.
Looking Ahead
As of now, the Auto Fire’s cause remains under investigation. Officials will assess the damage and review the effectiveness of the firefighting strategies employed. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by wildfires in California, particularly in regions susceptible to Santa Ana winds.
Residents are urged to stay informed, adhere to safety guidelines, and support efforts to mitigate future wildfire risks. Fire prevention measures, including responsible outdoor activities and proper disposal of flammable materials, are critical in reducing the frequency and severity of wildfires.
While firefighters continue their efforts to contain the Auto Fire, the resilience and preparedness of the Ventura County community remain key to overcoming these challenging times.

Dear global leaders - keep on rockin' in the free world
after implementing long overdue criminal justice reforms, especially affecting marginalized groups of people. I vote for more lenient, progressive and tolerant treatment towards undocumented immigrants, plus implementing a humane win/win system to modify societal criminal behavioral. Hear ye.... hear ye... All robust asylum seekers, and able bodied prisoners with minor infractions. Cue chiming Church bells ringing across the land from hilltops to valley of the dells. Thee will gain immediate United States citizenship, and get out of jail free pass respectively. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) wants you to volunteer as grunt workers to help extinguish monster California fires. Said proclamation emancipation immediately issued to grant migrant workers and those serving time for petty crimes. Both former day laborers, (no longer forcibly corralled, nor deported back to their home country by border guards, will be given an early 2025 Christmas present videre licet unequivocally acquiring indemnity against illegal residency, while the latter group (prisoners) slapped with unfair sentences and holed up in a cell receiving cruel indiscriminate punishment, when rudely taken into custody, and falsely accused of minor offense(s) commuted time behind bars effective immediately. Look out, cuz a(n) oxymoronic forward thinking Unitarian broke into your consciousness and with a byte size song and dance routine will subliminally affect the mind of any unsuspecting reader and taking a page from the playbook (copying or adopting a strategy, tactic, or approach that someone else already successfully used, essentially borrowing an idea from their established methods, often referring to a well-documented plan or set of actions like a sports team's playbook), where a "playbook" associated with an document containing detailed strategies and plays that a team uses during a game. Only one singular secret agent (shush - don't tell anyone), but yes, "Get Smart" got assigned as my secret agent, specifically a bumbling secret agent named Maxwell Smart who worked for the fictional agency called CONTROL, battling the evil organization KAOS in the TV series "Get Smart." All kidding aside, I cannot isolate nor pinpoint as the real defacto source, where progressive ideas of mine materialized,  allowing, enabling, and providing America as a safe haven to non-citizens to ameliorate available grunt work (anyway, my conjecture that majority of native occupants would forego accepting back breaking grueling work), who contribute to the national economy and help guarantee fruits and vegetables picked, processed, and shipped in a timely fashion to destinations far and wide courtesy the of sweat brow equity such as migrant farmers with strong hands hankering to land a cash paying only job with one of the four giant meat processing companies – that's right, FOUR – Tyson, Cargill, and Brazil-based National Beef and JBS, now control 85% of the U.S. beef market. WH Group (Chinese), JBS, Hormel, and Tyson control about 67% of the pork market. Tyson and Pilgrim's Pride control about 45% of the chicken market. No explicit blueprint drawn up courtesy yours truly (me) by dint of my aforementioned grandiose ideas, where such seed(s) of life and white lily sprung from for what might be deemed, hashtagged, and likened radical naturally thru the conservative lens, but the merest iota of forward thinking sets the initial groundwork for revolutionary measures, but before the groundswell of reformation attains consensus among major decision makers, whence chattering classes will pick up the figurative torch after hoi polloi takes root make a ruckus, particularly with kith and kin directly afflicted, impacted, and upended of deportees or family and friends of arrested and locked up in the big house which cause taken up by the chattering classes. Thus concludes lamentation
of an ordinary run of the mill Caucasian, grammarian wannabe, latitudinarian, and rhetorician,
whose utopian fantasy may bear witness to a reality when life on earth
more representative of equalitarian among all living creatures great or small.
