Just some thoughts on almost driver team pairings and the potential butterfly effects from each, all very much AU.

Lewis Hamilton decided Mercedes was just too big a risk from McLaren in 2013. This resulted in their second choice (Hulk) joining Nico Rosberg instead, both giving Hulk podiums and wins and giving Rosberg the 2014 championship a couple years ahead of schedule. Maybe Lewis as Niki Lauda’s number 1 choice in a fading McLaren still joins Mercedes in 2015 but he’s joining a team where Nico is their most recent champion and as such their competition over the next few years is less resentful and Nico has the confidence to fight without mind games . In short brocedes but they were both champions before becoming teammates and it changes everything.

Carrying on from this thought in normal 2016 Nico Rosberg tells Toto he’s retiring at the end of the season regardless of the outcome far earlier than he actually does and they do manage to sign Hulk before he signs with Renault again ending his podium drought.

Toto gets his wish and when Valteri is struggling in 2018 on his one year contracts he actually does manage to sign Max Verstappen from 2019. Does this mean there’s a Max v Lewis championship battle ahead of schedule? I can definitely see it for 2020 in the HAM-BOT-VER podium era as well as 2021 of course. Knock on effects involve Daniel Ricciardo staying on at Red Bull and although I can’t see him beating Lewis or Max in 2021 the dominance of the car in 2022/3 may have made him a world champion if losing his edge was a result of his McLaren days rather than a natural progression. If it was a natural progression it is also more likely that Charles could have had a proper shot at the championship in 2022 as he did beat Checo (barely) even with Ferrari being Ferrari that year and it would be interesting to see how dominant Red Bull would have been in 2023 potentially without a driver that’s 15 seconds ahead- I can see multiple race winners for a start even if they get the championship.

A long shot that would likely never have happened but Sebastian Vettel returns to Red Bull in 2021. Ferrari drops him early on in 2020 (let’s say Checo never won that glorious race and he stays on at what becomes Aston Martin for a straightforward swap) and Red Bull was very much looking for a more experienced driver and what’s a better storyline than having Seb return to partner Max? This has ramifications of if Seb got his edge back and it was a three way title fight in 2021 plus he stays longer in the sport with a fast car, or if he was more a Checo/Valteri figure but managed to take valuable points off Lewis (let’s say Silverstone) for a less controversial end to the championship. You also get more of a relationship between Max and Seb instead of just parallels and likely some weirdness from Charles about that too. It’s definitely a bit of a middle finger to Ferrari as well.

The Ferrari Driver Academy does the sensible thing and does not listen to Haas about wanting German sponsorship. Thus Mick goes to partner Kimi at Alfa Romeo instead and gets a more functional team to develop in. Would definitely be curious to see if that would have made a difference!

Ron Dennis does not put a rookie in the fastest car on the grid but still speed runs his progression. As such Fernando gets his third world championship and Lewis still gets his a year later (sorry Kimi).

Oscar Piastri does in fact go to Alpine. This could mean Daniel Ricciardo stays on another year at McLaren with no broken contract when the car actually does get fast (would be interesting to see if he could make that work or not) and also that they might have a spare seat in 2025 where they would court one of their favourite sons for a Carlando reunion in a McLaren that could potentially fight Ferrari long term. Alternatively Alpine is breaking apart at the seems and Mark Webber still does his a plus managing and gets Oscar out of there for 2024 anyway. For 2023 it would mean that Pierre Gasly stays on at Alpha Tauri and that whole mess of Alpha Tauri musical chairs is avoided.

BONUS. Honda pushes for Max to join Aston Martin in 2026 just as he’s potentially looking for an out from Red Bull amidst new engine regulations and an uncomfortable environment. We know they want to work with Max again already. There may not be a championship fight but we do get Alonso and Max as a chaotic and sensational teammate pairing doing more than the car is capable of and a team where all drivers, manufacturers, and financial backers are properly pushing in the right direction. Or maybe he joins after Fernando takes a step away from driving and is in the back room pulling in those points with Lance still around.

BONUS. I just like to think of the pure chaos that would be a George and Max teammate pairing that is not going to happen but would be pure gold. Max gets infinitely annoyed at Mercedes for not knowing how to build a car but has enough experience fighting for wins and podiums in previous not too competitive Red Bull cars that he makes the best of it but George makes it very very hard at times and he is so not used to a teammate that won’t just get out of his way at this point that the “princess dickhead” tiffs become very common. George has a bunch of resentment that he’s not treated as first driver even now and from his side he’s not about to let Max pass just because he’s Max Verstappen and it’s just very funny to watch. Alternatively (in very much crack territory here) Horner has enough of Toto posturing about Max and signs Checo for one more year before stealing George in 2026. Toto shows up for a duel at dawn.

Horror im sure is fairly common, just not in my circles (which are adventure fantasy based); farming sim though seems like it may be rarer? for that id be interested in either solo or with 2+ people

Hello friend, I’m going to let one of my older posts do some of the heavy lifting, and point you towards the Small Town Farming collection I put up back in 2022.

You are absolutely right that Horror is much easier to recommend, but I’ll also try and put some quick recs for solo-farming type games at the bottom of this post.

1978: The Night They Came Home, by World Champ Game Co.

1978: The Night THEY Came Home is a 1-2 player horror roleplaying game telling the story of a fateful showdown between Survivor (a clever and resilient person caught up in horrifying circumstances) and Slasher (a legendary force of evil). Using a deck of poker cards, dual rule books, varied resources, and shared play space, players will recount the events of a forsaken Halloween, zooming closer into the haunting folklore of a small Midwestern town and its inhabitants, and culminating in a violent battle for survival.

Here is a game for solo gamers and folks who want a more intimate experience. If you’re a fan of Friday the 13th, this is probably in your wheelhouse! 1978 has a win condition, meaning that either the Survivor or the Slasher will come away as the victor, and the fact that this is also a game that depends on a deck of cards means that I think this might also be a good game for folks who also enjoy card games and board games.

Vast Grimm, by Infinite Black.

Vast Grimm is a stand-alone, art-filled, punk-fueled OSR role-playing game about the few humans remaining in a universe being consumed by growing parasitic würms.

Maybe you're a twisted biochemist shoving needles into your arms in hopes that this next fix will be the one that saves you and what’s left of humanity? If you’ve heard of MÖRK BORG and thought it was cool, and if you want the same kind of energy but in a sci-fi future full of mutant animals and horrific parasites, then you might want to check out Vast Grimm. Your characters will have to ration food, energy and ammo in an unending battle against the worms. This game looks to have a large amount of support, from expanded content, to a number of adventures, to an online character generator. For over-the-top violence, plenty of alien goo, and shambling pathetic characters that look like they might fall apart at any moment, try out Vast Grimm.

The Lost Bay, by IKO.

What Is The Lost Bay? The Lost Bay is a Suburban Gothic tabletop RPG se199X. The Lost Bay is also the name of the setting where the game takes place: a coastal suburb inspired by films and media from the 80s and 90s. In it you play as a young person touched by the Weird, an ancient force that gives you supernatural powers. You roam the Bay with your gang, its malls, arcade games shops, skateparks and beaches, and fight the Horror that has awakened.

The Lost Bay is a game for folks who like their horror drenched in 90’s nostalgia. Characters are archetypal, and each one comes with special powers. Using your powers is exciting and effective, but also brings you closer to Scars, horrible truths about the world around you that will irrevocably change your hometown.

The Lost Bay is great for planning heists, rescuing friends, and trying to get out of dodge when the going gets rough. It’s not about fighting your way out, but more about trying to keep you and your loved ones safe. A lot of game designers have had a riot putting together adventures for this game, which you can check out in this game jam. The link above is for the Kickstarter, but in case you see this game after the campaign finishes, you can also check the game out on Itch.

Flyover Country, by Headstone Hills.

Fields of wheat and corn ripple in the wind, hungry eyes peering out between the stalks. Billboards along the road advertise strange and dangerous attractions. Smiles are too wide, manners too polite, secrets buried too deep. The neon light of a diner glows in the distance, but you may never reach its doors. An empty highway stretches out to the horizon, then wraps back in around itself. This is Flyover Country.

Flyover Country is a Midwest road-tripping horror role-playing game for 4-6 players: one gamemaster, or Watcher, and 3-5 players, or Drifters. It is designed to be played in one setting and without prep. It only requires paper, writing utensils, and a tarot deck.

This is a great option for a group where the GM is uneasy about doing a lot of prep. While one person acts as the Watcher, much of the events in this game are simply generated by drawing tarot cards from a deck. Characters will also draw from the Major Arcana to determine what their secret is - and what special ability it has given them. This is a game of hidden information, and grinding your characters down towards a tragic or grisly end.

Gravemire, by Clawhammer Games.

Gravemire is a tabletop roleplaying game about death, growth, horror, and survival, based in an original mechanical framework and set in the churning waters of the Louisiana bayou circa 1894. Players slip into the roles of outsiders arriving in the town of Scarstone, a rural outpost that has been warped by a terrible transformation known as the Convulsion. Once, Scarstone was surrounded by similar towns. The Bayou once had an end. Now, unknowable numbers of horrors seep through the uncharted backwaters, strange magic contorts reality to its whims, and the settlements that called Scarstone their neighbour jut half-ruined from the mire like bones from a wound. Times have changed.

Gravemire is a pretty brutal game, not afraid to kill your character and steal their soul. The town of Scarstone is a trap; your characters wandered in one day through curiosity or the desire for adventure, but leaving the town isn’t nearly as easy. Characters are built using a point-buy system, and as you play you may acquire more skill - but you will also acquire Aversions, which sap your Willpower and inhibit your ability to muster through the worst of what the game can throw at you.

Under the Autumn Strangely, by Graham Gentz.

"Under the Autumn Strangely" is a storytelling game of pastoral horror priming with anachronistic Americana set in a land that Never Was.

Inspired by "Over the Garden Wall" created by Patrick McHale, players collaboratively create a world uncanny and old. Codify and encourage tonal clash as the Three Roles meld whimsy, autumnal melancholy, and dread.

Take a wrong turn on a dusty road. Follow the sign past the red barn with peeling paint. Doubt your senses.

Get a little lost.

Welcome to the Never Was.

From what I understand about this game, it works best with three players, as there are three roles that the participants are expected to embody. One person plays the Arcadian, who embodies the landscape and setting. One person plays the Traveller, who acts as a “main” character. One person plays the Terror, which grows to dominate the story. Each role can only add to to one role’s suggestions, and can only deny the other’s. If you want to mix your horror with nostalgia and a romanticized vision of the rural USA, you might want to check out Under the Autumn Strangely.

The Facility, by Galen Pejeu.

You awaken, cold and in the dark. Fumbling around by low blue lights in a coffin shaped pod. You pull yourself out of the box, and in the dark see the faces of others. You are all wearing loose fitting white clothing and laceless shoes. Hospital patients? 

You peer into the dark, seeing little but hearing the sound of dripping, running water and distant machinery. You gather what you can, knowing that something is hunting you. It will be here soon.

Wait.

Can you remember who you are?

The Facility is a game for any number of players, taking on the role of ordinary people, stripped of their memories and trapped in a hostile and insane labyrinth of machines and interdimensional weirdness.

The Facility places your crew into an unknown place full of machines that want to kill you. It’s great for high-action scenes, and since your characters have lost their memories, I think the struggle to find pieces of who you are (or were) is a great way to zoom in and make the horror personal. The game is Breathless, so expect your character’s gear and/or abilities to slowly wear down over time, and for the staked to get bigger every time you pause to try and re-stock. How to kill a company.

Followers of Elon Musk's career understand that, while he is most assuredly obscenely wealthy, a business genius he ain't. Stock in his electric car company, Tesla, has dropped a stunning 26% thus far in 2024. And the year has only begun. His SpaceX venture isn't faring much better, either. Its attempt at a rocket launch last November ended with the spacecraft exploding minutes into the test flight. It was the sixth such failure for the space technology company.

So when Musk bought the social media platform known as Twitter in October 2022 for the announced price of $44 billion (after considerable legal wrangling as Musk tried to wriggle out of the deal), many wondered how long it would take him to destroy the company. Turns out not that long.

Having extravagantly overpaid for Twitter, Musk set about trying to recoup by extracting every dime he could from the business. His first act was to cut costs by firing over 80% of Twitter's staff, reducing it from just under 8,000 to around 1500 employees. In particular, this included content moderators whose job it was to battle disinformation on the site. As a result, the platform became flooded with phony bot accounts, conspiracy theorists and previously banned users (i.e., right-wing trolls, anti-Semites and other hate-mongers). In response, hundreds of major advertisers reduced or halted their ad spending on the site by January 2023.

Twitter’s original verification system was based on the premise that it had evidence the accounts it identified with blue check marks belonged to the actual people claiming them and that those were people or organizations of some importance. Musk did away with all that by selling blue checks to anyone willing to shell out $8 a month — an offer taken up by less than 1% of the app's actual users.

Finally, in what was possibly the worst re-branding decision ever, Musk decided to ditch the globally known Twitter name and relabel the app X (a letter he seems obsessed with). As the technology news site Engadget reported,

Musk killed Twitter by slowly making it useless for those who relied on it for real-time information, by choking off conversations from those not willing to pay, by flooding users’ timelines with spammy blue-check sycophants and renaming the company X.

Recently, a Pew Research study asked current and recent X users how likely they are to use the platform a year from now. A quarter of the respondents said not very or not at all. So congrats, Elon. You've euthanized your enterprise.

Plot Summary: Murderbot can't ignore the elephant in the room any longer. While it has been investigating it's history, Dr. Mensah the woman responsible for it's safety is under scrutiny for the disaster of the planetary expedition that started this journey and the subsequent disappearance of Murderbot. Feeling strangely... sentimental for the scientist Murderbot decides to do some reconnaissance on the company that attacked the peaceful scientists to gain evidence to help Dr. Mensah. The SecUnit finds itself once again embroiled in an adventure way more complicated and dangerous than it ever wanted! Seriously! How hard is it for a SecUnit to find some peace and quiet to watch all this new media!

TL:DR: Seeing Murderbot struggle between it's internal desire to hide away and watch media forever and help humans with a death wish is just as fun the third time as it was the first time. This time around we get a clear glimpse into Murderbot's internal moral compass even though it claims to have none. The space adventures continue and the battle between corporate greed and individual humans good intentions is front and center.

Characters:

Murderbot/Consultant Rin - Once again stepping into the made up identity of security Consultant Rin, Murderbot spends this story wrestling with a mess of 'emotions' regarding Dr. Mensah, the new humans trying to expose the crimes of GrayCris and this annoyingly innocent human-form bot Miki that won't take a hint that Murderbot does not want to be friends!

Miki - a human-form bot who serves as the assistant to Don Abene in their investigation into the terraforming platform abandoned by GrayCris. Miki has never been mistreated like most other androids and because of that is extremely naive and innocent to the reality of the world. It is very curious of the world around it especially the amount of distrust Murderbot displays. Extremely dedicated to Don Abene and her safety.

Don Abene - part of a contracted team looking into the abandoned terraforming platform, she investigates shady activity with her trusty human-form bot Miki. From her treatment of Miki it is clear Don Abene respects robotic and android life forms and she is determined to pursue truth and expose crime.

Thoughts and Feelings: I feel like a broken record sometimes going on about how good these stories are, but they honestly are just high quality fun stories the entire way through. One of the most enjoyable aspects of these books is the slow progress of Murderbot facing and accepting humanity and what it means to be regarded as a person. Despite it's initial insistence on not being a person, Murderbot slowly starts to behave more and more person like. Most obviously through it's thoughts and considerations of the humans around it and the Preservation team that it left behind. Murderbot will never get rid of the silent (or not so silent sometimes) disdane for humans propensity for making stupid and violent decisions, but it finds itself drawn to protect them again and again. Particularly in this book Murderbot is introduced to Miki, a human-form bot that Murderbot massively pities when they first meet. Miki is sweetly innocent, believing the best of Murderbot and all of the other humans on the investigation team. Miki's owner and caretaker, Don Abene truly loves Miki and treats it like part of the family. This is a foreign concept to Murderbot who finds it impossible that a human being could actually truly care for an android. Murderbot leaves its interactions with Miki massively changed.

The continuous character growth of Murderbot is the strongest aspect of these stories.

Assault Lily × Ludvico Private Girls' Academy: The Blade of Truth

For obvious reasons, I'm not writing the full title of the play.

Ever since The Gleam of Dawn had its run earlier this year, my opinion has been that it was the best individual one of the Assault Lily stage plays, but the Ludvico quartet (in their revival versions when those existed) are the best series. And though The Blade of Truth was by no means bad and a worthy finale to the series, my opinion hasn't changed.

Extensive spoilers for the play below. Don't click unless you want to be spoiled! (Also, I talk about death, so a content warning for that.)

The Blade of Truth is actually the only one of the Ludvico stage plays that I've watched the original 2019 performance of, because there was no alternative at the time I was first watching the series. It was… okay. Definitely rough compared to the revivals, but I wasn't sure how much of it was inherent and how much was because of the lower budget those plays were working with.

It turns out that at least a little of it was inherent, but I'll focus on what was good first.

BoT 2023 (I'll abbreviate it as that from now on) was excellently produced. Assault Lily's stage tradition of projecting video onto the stage came out crystal clear, for nearly the first time ever, and was used to great effect every scene it happened in.

Though the choreography wasn't quite as fancy as The Gleam of Dawn's, it was frequently impressive, and the playwright/director duo of Sakuragi Sayaka and Hayashi Shuuji elevated their trademark of simultaneous scenes to new heights by occasionally having important conversations take place on one half of the stage while battles occurred on the other.

The story was an improvement over the 2019 version with a variety of small changes to the script, and possibly also thanks to the years of extra experience the actresses and staff have. Asahi and Nagisa were adorable together, the flashback scenes with Kazane made her feel less like just Mirai #2, Ichika and Karen both got even cooler, Himari was a lot more likeable, and Nonoka's scenes were somehow even funnier.

In the back half, Professor Amamiya "installing" himself into Kosaka the same way various other characters have makes a lot more sense than the 2019 version's brain transplant. I feel really bad for Kosaka, since she seems to momentarily regain her original personality just before she dies… well, no one ever said Assault Lily stories have happy endings for everyone.

Also, Pius seems to have mostly recovered from whatever issue they had in 2022 where the stage cameras and microphones precipitously dropped in quality (maybe Bushiroad gave them loaners and took them back when they pulled out of the Assault Lily project?)

What wasn't so great? Well, it's an ongoing thing with the Ludvico series, but the plain-looking hairstyles/costumes and boring CHARMs are disappointing coming from the other stage plays. They provide the advantage that they avoid having the occasional ugly-as-sin wig (like Kasumiko's in The Gleam of Dawn,) but I wish the crew had at least used different shades of natural hair so the characters are easier to tell apart. I don't see why Yuko couldn't be a blonde and so forth.

In BoT 2023, a reasonable amount of characters have custom CHARMs (or at least less common ones like Kazane's Triglav,) but I'll be quite happy if I never see another Dainsleif Carbine or Gungnir Carbine again in my life.

I'm still not a fan of The Blade of Truth's plot, particularly the second half. I've always been disappointed by Assault Lily's dull villains and feel that Toda Kotohi is the only one, in any part of the media mix, who's genuinely a great character. A bunch of nuns and Kosaka-sensei repeatedly screaming "This is for the good of humanity!" haven't changed my mind on that.

The fights were really cool, and Makabe and Kosaka in particular have their moments, but I wish we knew more about what they were actually trying to accomplish instead of them just seeming crazy.

While Sakuragi may have felt she couldn't make a change that drastic to the script in a revival, I think Ichika should have died when Makabe shot her. It really undermined the impact of that moment when she was just fine later, and more broadly I feel that Assault Lily's aversion to allowing even a single Lily to die in the present clashes badly with how its strongest plotlines are based on the deaths of characters in the past, like Mirai.

If Yuria had died in the previous Ludvico play, that would be fine too. Just kill someone. Anyone!

I feel very edgy saying that, but I really believe AL tests the limits of our disbelief with how everything, all of a sudden, always turns out just fine for the Lilies. (Unless you're a teacher, in which case you have a 75% chance of dying horribly.)

My Legal Battle with my Family and their Co-horts / Co-conspirators (142):

So as I mentioned in my last post, Post #141, my followers and friends on Facebook have been belittled, berated and harassed for following me and being supportive.  The attached picture is from someone claiming to be a person named “Amy Waltman.”  In this picture if you notice the highlighted portion is this “Amy Waltman” downing and calling my supporters “simps and bots.”  This “Amy Waltman” posted this to my Facebook page in May of 2022.  She also engaged and berated personally a friend, Trey Beatty.  And she questions why none of my long time friends from before I went to prison in 2008 are posting and being supportive.  Well, first of all, why would she think they are not being supportive.  They could have been being supportive through text message and phone calls.  People don’t have to post to my Facebook page to be supportive.  So why would she even think or know this.  Well I have evidence that my “long time friends” whom I was in constant contact prior to my vehicular homicide accident and prior to me going to prison, whom never once wrote me or came to visit me one time while I was in prison, did stay in constant contact with my mother, Gloria Sumter, while I was in prison.  And that she constantly emailed and communicated with them.  And that these “friends” manipulated my employment when I was at a transitional center when making my release from prison by pooling money together to create a position at David Scott Healthcare Marketing but no one ever told me about it.  I would have NEVER let them do this had I known about it.  They also provided this employer, David Scott, with a key to my Atlantic Station apartment without my knowledge and he broke into my apartment, breached my employment contract, he threatened me, refused me medical care when I injured myself in his office, and that he fired me illegally.

Well, it just so happened that, when I was released from prison in 2013 it was like all the “long term friends” I had before going to prison in 2008 had ghosted me.  None of them contacted me or would communicate with me.  This is without reason.  The only reason is that my mother, Gloria Sumter, was in constant contact with them and whatever she was saying or for whatever reason they gave her their allegiance.  Just like they did by destroying evidence and stealing my property when I went back to prison in 2015, after I filed a lawsuit against my family.

And I have no idea who this “Amy Waltman” is to begin with.  I never knew an “Amy Waltman” growing up nor have I ever heard her name.  But it is interesting how she seems to know all the details of my life.  Right down to my family falsley accusing a teacher at my highschool, whom I had never had as a teacher at the time and who never did anything to me or anything wrong, of sexually molesting me as a child. 

Now, I am almost certain, certain except for having supoenaed and proven by IP address that this “Amy Waltman” is my sister, Shalene Sumter.  I took my sister to court in 2022 for making up fake accounts and trying to sway my friends and followers to not believe me or be friends with me.  The judge during that hearing instructed my sister to not create anymore fake accounts or to post anything like that to my social media accounts anymore.  And, you have to wonder, why would this “Amy Waltman” who never had ever messaged me or commented on my Facebook account prior to me posting that I had filed a lawsuit against my family in 2022, all of the sudden pop up and berate me and my followers?

Welcome to the first day of 2022′s Arena (Winter)!

Your teams and Bronze Round opponents have been arranged on the sheet here.

If you’ve participated in our lore events, you’re already aware of how structured TOA battles work. If not, don’t worry! Under the Read More below, we’ve laid out how the flow of combat goes (if you read this last Arena, read it again! We’ve added some new things). If you have any questions, ask them! These events are intended to teach combat through small, contained battles, and also work out general kinks in weapons and combat flow.

Your rolls must be done with the Dice Maiden bot in our server, and you must roll in your team’s thread. You will also be rolling for your enemies’ attacks, following a set of rules designated in the doc itself. We encourage every team to set up their own combat tracker doc as well. This serves both as a cross-check to the mod-curated combat doc, as well as a way to learn how combat calculations are done. Of course, the mods will be available for skill clarifications and any other help you may need.

The schedule for the rounds will be as follows (each round ends around noon on the final day, and the new one will begin the day after):

Bronze Round: December 3rd - 6th Iron Round: 7th - 10th Steel Round: 11th - 14th Silver Round: 15th - 18th Gold Round: 19th - 22nd

A team will automatically progress to the next round if all enemies are defeated. If the round ends before your team manages to defeat their opponents, the mod team will assess damage dealt and contribution from the individuals of the team. If the enemy team’s collective HP is less than 50%, the player team will advance to the next round. If there are instances when one teammate seems to be holding an entire team back without asking for appropriate skips for their turns, the team may pass with the member in question disqualified. Teams should not have to wait more than 24 hours for a teammate to post, and the expected speed for each member is roughly 1 post a day, although this is dependent on teammates.

Battles in TOA are turn-based, similar to an RPG.

First is the player phase, where each muse on the team has a chance to make their move. They can attack or use a support skill (heal, rally, etc), and that will be their turn. Turn order historically has been decided in the first turn, but that may change if a teammate asks to skip a turn or if the team decides to shift around turn order. The turn order does not have to remain the same across all rounds and should prioritize both IC motivations and mun availability.

If a character attacks an enemy, they will be counterattacked unless activating a skill that prevents counterattacks.

After a team has finished their phase, the battle moves on to the enemy phase. The enemy phase follows the same rules as player phase, except the enemy attacks first and the target can counterattack.

After every enemy takes a turn, the battle returns to player phase and the process repeats again until all of one side is defeated or otherwise unable to continue.

In this event, muses do not die if they are brought to 0HP and are able to continue into the next round if their team wins. HP is retained between battles, but if a character is KO’d, they will be automatically revived with 50% HP at the start of the next battle.

The rolls you make in the server when you take your action are written out as a reply in your battle thread. The nat20 you rolled for your attack becomes your muse getting fired up, as you write out just exactly how they landed that super-cool crit (or you write about how your muse sees sunset colors through fluttering eyelashes after the enemy runs a critical hit through their gut). This is also a great time to bond with your allies and forge relationships you might not otherwise have had to chance to create, and thread replies don’t have to JUST contain combat.

Actions must be announced when a roll is made, not after. RNG may not always be in your favor, but that’s the fun of it. Please do not get upset by or try to bend bad rolls. This also applies to combat arts, which must be announced before a roll just like an ordinary attack.

Falloutober 2022 Prompt 6: Pseodoscience

“Maybe it means that you’re afraid of what is going to happen at Hoover Dam,” Arcade said in a quiet voice.

Six rolled her eyes. It had been a week since her nightmare and Arcade still wouldn’t let it go. Every day she regretted telling him more and more. Thankfully he hadn’t told anyone else about it, otherwise she’d have to worry about the others asking her about it too.

“I am afraid of what’s going to happen,” Six said. “I don’t know if I’m good enough to fight against an entire army of not.”

“You shouldn’t worry about fighting an entire army,” Arcade said.

“The NCR will be there to help.”

“But I don’t know if I want them there at all.”

Arcade paused a moment, surprised, then said, “You can’t fight this battle alone.”

Six shook her head and scratched the star scar on her forehead where she had been shot. “I don’t know what to do. If I let the NCR win, the whole Mojave will be tied up in their red tape bureaucracy. The Legion, with as much as they hate me, if I were to let them win, they’ll enslave the entire Mojave.”

Arcade hummed. “Neither option is particularly pleasant. You could go for a third, less controlled option.”

“Yeah,” Six said with a sarcastic laugh. “Kill them all and crown myself queen of Vegas.”

Arcade shrugged and said, “Sure. You have what is needed for leaders. You make hard decisions quickly and don’t regret the consequences of your actions, at least not openly.”

“I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life.”

“We all have.”

Six fell quiet for a moment. She took in their surroundings. They sat on a cliff ledge, overlooking Camp Forlorn Hope.

“I don’t want to be the reason why so many people die. Especially people like them.” She gestured down to the camp. “People that were just thrown into a war in a territory they don’t live in, in the hopes that their government will get to keep the territory. The NCR will never be able to fully fix Hoover Dam, the power will only travel so far. They’re fighting a hopeless war that they won’t win.”

“You could always try to end the war sooner rather than later.”

Six nodded slowly. “If I were to kill Caesar, the Legion would become weaker, but it would also have a martyr.”

“After the battle, those who survive will have no one to rally behind.”

“Weaken their leadership, weaken their numbers, morale would be in the dirt by the time they get to fighting at the dam. An easier enemy to push over. Lanius would still be a problem, though.”

“You can handle Lanius. I think you can handle anything the Legion throws at you. But they still have the numbers, and the NCR can’t compete with that.”

“I could allow the NCR to help, even up to the end. Then have Yes Man remove the soldiers.”

“Yes Man?”

“The bot in Benny’s room at the Tops.” Six fell quiet in thought for a long while. The sun had started to lower into the ground before she spoke again. “Yeah. That’s what I’ll do.” She turned to Arcade and said. “Thanks for helping me figure it out.”

He gave her a wane smile and said, “Sure. Maybe let me psychoanalyze your dreams more often.”

Six scoffed and looked back down at the camp, where soldiers were setting up fires for light around the camp. “I thought you figured it was suede-science.”

“Pseudoscience,” Arcade corrected. “And yes, it’s a form of that. But it helped you talk yourself through what needs to be done, didn’t it?”

Six shrugged and stood. “Let’s head down.”

Arcade nodded and together they returned to the camp.

A Joyride from Beyond the Grave

Diving deep into my favorite troubled webcomic

In the world of webcomics, 2022 felt like the year of the endless scene. No less than three artists I've been following got stuck in a lengthy, difficult sequence for months on end. One finally escaped a few weeks ago, one looks like he's found a way out and will be there soon, and one is still trapped with no clear way to fix what he's started.

That first one, Cælum Sky, fascinates me the most. Since its debut in 2019, it has been a strong contender for my favorite webcomic in recent years. But when it got stuck, it got stuck. It took over 100 pages and nearly 2 years to break free from its endless scene, and the frustration took a huge toll on both the author and the readers.

How did something this brilliant end up in such a rough position last year? What made this webcomic work so well in the first place, and what stopped working during that time? What lessons can I (and you) as writers learn from this artist's struggles and triumphs? In these next few posts, I will answer all of these questions.

Cælum Sky is based on an indie novel that was first serialized here on Tumblr in the mid-2010s. The story is centered on the two dueling leads. Neri, the red dino-looking thing, is an escapee from the underworld. Raziel, the guy with the white hair, is an angel who does the spiritual equivalent of pest control. When Neri reincarnates into a demon that is "haunting" (read: tearing apart) the home of a young widow and her spiritually gifted toddler, Raziel is sent in to exorcize the demon, and their worlds collide.

Cælum Sky builds off of its source material masterfully. From page 1, the tone and style are nailed down. Just like the protagonist, we're thrown into a world we know nothing about, right into the middle of a desperate battle for survival.

The action is beautifully chaotic, the pacing relentless, and the whole thing is rendered in this painterly art-style that's bursting with color and life. It's a bold opening statement: this comic will be a wild joyride, and you get to be on board.

After the first confrontation, the narrative shifts, and a few chapters are spent on Neri and the family. She is spiritually bound to the house, and so she has to find some way to figure out what she really is and make peace with the humans living there.

We figure things out at the same pace that Neri does. She becomes a sort of guide into this world. This is a great way to develop the narrative in a natural way while keeping the pace high. That tension, that mystery, is always there, but it creates space for deep character development along the way. That's so critical - plot is nothing without character.

By the end of Volume 1, we deeply understand who Neri is, as well as the humans in the house. Their stumbling attempts to understand each other make us feel for them. This all builds up to one of my favorite moments in any webcomic, and that's saying something.

So, to sum it up: the intense pace, strong character development and worldbuilding, and a mastery of tone and style are what make this webcomic so brilliant.

What I've shown so far covers the first 100 pages or so, and takes us to April 2021, when the endless scene began. However, there were a few cracks in the foundation that hinted at where things were heading. But this post is getting long enough, and I need to get to bed. Ended up doing this on my phone so I would Actually Do It so not the most legible lolol. (And I missed with one! It should be "I NEVER want to meet them" instead of "they've never done anything wrong"

I liked leli a whole lot the first time I played but it really has changed since. First time I played I was trying very hard to be Straight and Catholic so she was...illuminating to say the least

But frankly, while I adore her whole arc, I think it really plays best as a mirror to other arcs/as an illumination of her relationship with others & especially the chantry itself. I don't...find her particularly compelling standing alone. I think a huge part of that is her Super Religious shtick.

I generally just think of her as a contrast to Nat (Brosca) and Cassandra, actually

Basically, I am extremely queer and do love her whole thing, but she is just too earnest in her fantasy catholicism to be really important to me

My Opinion on The Game Awards 2022

The Game Awards 2022 is getting better than last year.

Since Geoff Keighley announced the nominees, I can't decide if I should pick Elden Ring or Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for Game of the Year. I put a poll on my Twitter on what should I vote, so XC3 leads the race but for the others, I'm not a fan and haven't played Elden Ring, but they have positive reception from those gamers who think that it should win.

I didn't change my final decision, but my bet finally won. There's also a prediction that God of War: Ragnarok will win because they grabbed lots of awards.

The most controversial is Genshin Impact winning Player's Voice. Sonic Fans are talking why Genshin won against Sonic Frontiers is they've used bots to have a landslide. I voted for Sonic Frontiers, but still we did a good job.

For Nintendo, they're also the spotlight when they announced the new Bayonetta Origins game and Fire Emblem: Engage DLC, plus they even won awards for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

My favorite announcement is the first sneak peek clip from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with Keegan-Michael Key (voice of Toad in the movie) introducing. It was amazing that we have to see this movie immediately when it comes out.

I had to share this tweet from Sonic the Hedgehog's Twitter Account. My friend Miggy sent this to me on the final round of Player's Voice on a voting battle against Sonic and Genshin fans. Even if your chosen vote is lost, there's pride and support given to the nominee.
