I love Abigail but ngl I am also a Corona Worsetwin truther in part because I would find it much more satisfying for one of the series' designated Rational Moral Adults to be categorically wrong about Corona.

OH I love this! I hadn't really thought out it until now, but my first reaction is that it might have been just the general "Ugh, yuck, Ianthe?" vibe that she seems to evoke, since she's very much unpleasant on main. But when thinking about it more in-depth, I think Abigail's perception of WHY Corona would be more suited to Lyctorhood depends on which qualities Abigail thinks a Lyctor should possess that Ianthe lacks.

One thing about Abigail in HtN is that she is as much of an atheist as you can get in TLT, but also she seems to have a sort of romanticised view of John (calling him "the Kindly Emperor", "I've longed my whole life to give him my findings") and I wonder if this extends to her conception of Lyctorhood as a sort of state of idyllic quest for knowledge — "the beauty of necromantic mysteries" as Harrow puts it. She's also the leader of a House known for its diplomacy, influence, and not-so-subtle expansionistic ambitions.

So, is she thinking about Corona's diplomatic skills? Her political knowledge? Or — because at this point she still believes Coronabeth is also a necromancer — is she thinking that Corona was the better necromancer than Ianthe, as it was widely speculated?

Going wildly off into headcanon land, we know Abigail has anti-Cohort sympathies (as per Judith's files) and I wonder if that plays a part. We know that Corona regards the Houses's expansionistic strategy as inefficient, but I don't think it's something Abigail would know. Maybe she just thinks Corona would be able to assert authority over the Cohort better? (One of my pet speculations is that there's some antagonism between the Cohort and the Lyctors, and if that's actually a thing Abigail could be aware of it.)

I think it's a combination of Corona's people skill, her personal experience with both twins, and the fact that Ianthe actively puts off everyone she meets.

I'm just figuring out how important music is in my life! This is coming from a long while trying to cut down on my music use, mostly because I was listening to it so much that it felt more like I couldn't do anything without popping in some earbuds, and partially because of other personal reasons. Some of my routines changed, forcing me to not listen to music while doing certain things, and it ended up becoming that besides working on homework or drawing, I didn't listen to music at all. But I've given myself a break today since I have nothing to do and since, for reasons, I'm feeling just a lil crappy today—and boy, I'm starting to realize again just why I love music!!

I love the diverse music taste I've developed over the years! My family is not only big about music but big about listening to it loud, so the majority of my music taste for most of my life has just been Christian hiphop (Lecrae, KB, Andy Mineo, Trip Lee, and ironically Tonex, whose album where he was struggling hard with his gayness has been my favorite concert movie since I was 5) and gospel music (Kirk Franklin, Tye Tribbett, etc.). And music was one of the few connections between me and my race (I grew up feeling pretty estranged from my blackness as a kid, but the popular songs they played at the YMCA in the 2010s were some of the few things I could use to feel more connected) and between me and my classmates/friends at the Y (I still have fond memories of playing FNAF songs in mat forts and reciting lyrics at pool parties). But I got tired of knowing I could never bond with anyone besides family friends music taste-wise when I was in high school, and so I started listening to secular music on my own time. And that's how I first found Ghost and Pals, a vocaloid artist and one of the first secular music folks I listened to as a kid (can you smell the religious trauma yet? Lol), and that's how I bonded with one of my best friends in early college (ironically, also my first time being publically queer). Now I listen to Kpop, anime songs, songs from warriors MAPs, songs from musicals (Hamilton and In the Heights <3), latin songs, metal songs, and even some secular songs young me would've been too scared to listen to.

And music has always been one of my biggest sources of stimming! I can't dance to save my life, but music will sure get me to flick my fingers and hit my fist against my shoulder furiously. Music was one of the first clues that I like stimming with vibration too (since I love laying against the car door and turning up the music loud enough to feel the world shake around me). And music was one of the first things that made me look into ADHD or autism (specifically, listening to Ghost and Pals songs for a month straight and getting my friend at early college [who also has ADHD] to start looking at me funny when I was discovered doing chores and listening to one of three songs for the fifth time). Music is so cool it'll get me to wax poetically. It was one of the things that kept me together during my roughest times and soothed me during my best. I listen to it while I write, while I cry, while I hang out with my friends and family and while I chill by myself. It's how I relax after a long day, and it's how I feel safe. I feel kinda emotional finally having music hit that spot in me without feeling like I need it to do stuff.

Unhinged Anon again, and you bringing up the track from S3E10 (which is probably my favorite from season 3. It’s just so cool and terrifying but also so sad and angry? At one point it's like the song is sobbing and screaming at the same time. The word ‘Lament’ definitely suits it) has me thinking about MK and Mei in S3E10 again, and I’m just… thinking. 

Thinking about MK constantly trying to bring attention back to Mei, ignoring or interrupting anything that doesn’t involve getting answers about/helping her. Thinking about MK dismissing Wukong and Macaque’s attempts to stop him from trying to save Mei. Thinking about MK physically wrenching himself from Wukong’s grasp to get to her. Thinking about how this is one of the few times we see MK choose to directly disobey an order (implied or otherwise) from Wukong without someone else manipulating him. Thinking about how this is the first time (I think) that we see MK actively pull away from Wukong. Thinking about MK choosing to leave Wukong behind as he heads into the fire for Mei. 

Thinking about "it’s scary being alone", and MK not hesitating to rush in knowing no one else could, or at least was willing, to back him up, because he’ll do this alone if it means she doesn’t have to. Thinking about how, once MK enters that fire, there is not a moment where his hands aren’t in front of him. Not a moment where he stops reaching towards her. Thinking about how he had zero assurances that Mei was physically capable of stopping the Samadhi fire, or that she was even listening considering she doesn’t respond to his words, and how that deters him about as much as being slowly burned alive AKA not at all. Thinking about MK being the only person to directly address Mei, and talk to her instead of at or about her. 

Thinking about Mei raging at Wukong for his lies and betraying “all of [them]”, but putting special emphasis on how he’s hurt MK specifically (Side note: I think the delivery of the “Time and time again [..] leaving him to figure out everything on his own!” line is my favorite of the whole episode. Stephanie Sheh did such a fantastic job). Thinking about MK’s name being the only one she uses the entire episode. Thinking about Mei’s lineage, something she had finally come to embrace with pride and confidence after feeling out of place for most of her life, being what condemns her to her status as the fourth ring, but also what saves her from being consumed by the fire. Thinking about "If you’re not giving everything you have to protect the people you care about, you are nothing", and Mei watching her own power lash out and hurt her best friend. Thinking about Mei only being the fourth ring because Ao Lie was prepared to sacrifice himself for his friend, taking the hit for Sanzang. Thinking about Mei having the Samadhi fire because of an act of friendship and loyalty from centuries ago. Thinking about Mei’s love for her friend, and his love for her, being what initially allows her to control the fire. 

Thinking about all of Mei’s “we have to try” moments, and ‘fakin’ it ‘til we makin’ it’, and her completely giving in to rage, hurt, and fear, almost destroying herself and the people she loves as she does so. Thinking about how it’s Mei’s own (partial) words from ROTSQ that MK brings up and throws back at her. Words that she offered him when he was feeling lost, and overwhelmed, and had no idea what to do. Thinking about Mei always happily offering MK all the unyielding patience, encouragement and forgiveness that he rarely grants himself, and desperately needing someone to offer her the same. Thinking about MK not hesitating to provide it. 

Thinking about how MK and Mei are constantly reaching for each other throughout the show, but it’s when they connect that the seemingly impossible is achieved. 

Thinking about MK looking at Mei through a sea of flames and saying ‘I see what you’re going through, and I see that you’re hurting, and I’ve been there, and I know how scary and overwhelming it is, and it is totally okay for you to feel these things, but it is not okay for you to think that you have to endure them alone, and I am going to stick by your side and weather them all with you exactly like you’ve done for me, and you are my best friend, and I love you, and I’m here for you’.  

Thinking about “We will figure this out. Together”.

I don’t know if this could be used to develop a fun group name, but it is something that they all share. Also, yes! I have considered starting tdp! I just need to set aside, like… a weekend or something for me to binge it all. I think “Time and time again [..] leaving him to figure out everything on his own! Don't you realize you're hurting the people who care about you the most?” is one of my favorite deliveries in the whole show, along with the entire "To pain" scene at number one and Macaque yelling at Wukong in 4x11 ("Not the great sage, he has to drag everyone else into his mess!").

Ghost is a walking dichotomy, Soap has discovered. He's watched him strip the layers of a man's skin away to get information from him, seen him snap someone's neck in as little time as it takes to take a breath. But he's also so capable of heartbreaking kindness. His genuine concern for the fish, the way he saves the best part of his plate for Soap; offering it to him with reverence. The way he's cleaning Johnny's wound so tenderly. It's in these moments of gentleness where Johnny almost forgets what they do, what they've seen, who they are.

So when Ghost's voice snaps into that serious tone it's almost like a slap in his dizzy, goofily smiling, face.

"Wha?"

"Where is it? I'll get rid of it for you." Under the sharp tone is still that lethal gentleness, and even under that is a shaking fear.

"Oh, oh Ghost." He shifts, uncomfortable in his skin and wanting to be anywhere but here. "Ye... Ye cannae get rid of it."

His Lieutenant draws back a little, a mix of apprehension and offense in his eyes.

"It hurt you, nothing else matters."

Soap can feel his heart splitting as his throat starts to burn. Ghost stares up at him with fiery eyes, hands still holding his wrist so so softly.

"Where is the snake Soap? I promise you it'll never hurt you again. Whoever brought it in is going to have hell to pay too." He earnestly promises and Soap feels a single hot tear slip out of his eye.

"Ghost..." He chokes out. "Simon... It's mine."

The small room goes silent. Nothing even dares to move but for the violent flinch the sentence rips out of Ghost.

He doesn't dare say anything, doesn't dare to move or even breathe. He looks down at Ghost and Ghost meets his stare with turmoil roiling in his gaze.

Soap doesn't know what he expected, screaming or sobbing or angry silence but the frantic confusion he can see in the other man is as far as can be from what he'd thought he'd get.

They sit there like that for a few long moments, each absorbed in his own thoughts, before Ghost slowly rises from his kneel. If Johnny were in better spirits he would tease him for the quiet cracks his knees make. And with that violent tenderness he slowly curls an arm around Johnny and leans him down into the bed, pressing behind him and holding him close just like they'd done on any number of frigid nights out in the blind. And they just sit there holding each other in silence as they slowly drift into a dreamless sleep.
