Ive always wanted to make a hardstyle song for my friend for his birthday. I tried to make one years ago but it didnt turn out too well. I think ill start that project up again.

The theme was based on his crush with poison ivy in the legendary batman and robin movie (the one with arnold swarzenegger as dr freeze)

My favourite hardstyle song is life beyond earth by project one. I love the idea of narration slowly turning into the beat of the song. Maybe ill try to incorporate that into this project.

A big aspect of Poison Ivy is that she’s a femme fatale character. She tries to defeat Batman by seduce Robin into betraying him. I think this aspect can be worked into an edm song by not delivering a drop after the build up.

The A section of the song will build up to a drop but instead will just start the B section which will build to a drop into the second A section.

Im not sure what the A section will sound like at this point but Id like the B section to feel maliciously hazy and foggy like youre being chemically infatuated by a bunch of plants that want to put you to sleep so that they can eat you. Something like The xx and Mac Demarco dreaminess crossed with the halloweenish Tom Waits’ Dave the Butcher.

Going to use the batman and robin ost to source the melody

Would be cool if i could turn the melody into the bass and vice versa for the b section

Thu 18th Apr

Working on laying down the structure of the song and how to build up the drop using switch and angels and demons as a guide

Used stock drums and instruments as filler to be replaced

Fri 19th Apr

Laid out the structure

According to the hardstyle songs ive listened to, the melody has to be 2 bars long

Need to find the correct drums and leads to use

Make hardstyle lead and test out different melodies

Sort out which quotes go where in the song

Using Serum and browsing through the presets

Felt like the melody i came up with was a bit weak so im copying a melody from a final fantasy 7 song called anxious heart

My snare is too high hz, need to find a lower one. Maybe i just EQ a kick to the snare hz range

I ended up just giving back the snare the higher ranges and it sounded a lot better

I need more auxillary percussions, dreamy sounds and set the structure for second A section.
