In 1870, the Elizabeth Arkham mental asylum was founded by one Elizabeth "Merci" Arkham. Elizabeth was a freed slave from the civil war. After the war she moved to Gotham and started the asylum in hopes of helping the mentally challenged, like she helped those in slavery. A major accomplishment for being a black woman at this time .In 1872 she was one of three families cursed by fate. And as the years went by, the curse of madness continued to take hold. By 1911, Elizabeth finally snapped she fled leaving her only daughter Florence to run Arkham. She would contact the same madness as her mother, finding solice in her abusive husband. Elizabeth (now the first black mask) helped Florence and now completing the cursed cycle of the Arkham family .

Basil "Malibu"Karlo was Born on February 3rd 1970 in Love Canal. Due to the heavy chemicals surrounding the area Basil gained there peculiar ability to shape shift and mimic others. As they grew up, their skills developed. By the age of 8 he was evacuated to the Gotham orphanage after her parents died from chemical exposure.

While in the orphanage,they gained a love for old Hollywood and film. They later earned a contract with Markus Jolly studios as an actress on the sitcom, "Suburban overture." It was a toxic work environment, especially for a 9 year old but they still somehow perceived it. The success from the show gained her more roles for them to own their shape shifting craft, the amazed audience believed there changes we made via cgi or practical effects.

After the release of A bit of class for the bat, Basil faced competition by other actors despite their shape shifting. Later they began a streak of crime to frame them and get them blacklisted from the industry. Unfortunately this was not meant to last, in October 1984 she was caught at the scene and was identified by their webbed toes(the one thing that never could shape shift with the rest of them.). To keep their record clean Markus Jolly studios made her plead insanity and admitted her to the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum until further notice.

They are currently under the supervision of Dr. Hugo Strange on his team the strange angels as an imposter for gigs he assigns the angels to.

Their sanity has only become worse... like a melting lump of clay

Thought I'd bring this baby back up with some new art and backstory

Clayface Basil "Malibu Karlo case file 489573

Basil "Malibu" karlo age: 16

Backstory: Basil was born on December 17th 1969 in Love Canal New York. Toxic conditions in the area caused their DNA to become.... unstable at worst and questionable at best. This has allowed their unique ability to mimic others. We have also been told that they practiced in front of the TV, copying scenes from their favorite movies and one day aspire to be an actor.

On July 7th 1978, Basil was relocated to Saint Murphy's orphanage in Gotham City, New Jersey after her parents passing. That October, the orphanage would do a production of Romeo and Juliet. She would star in Juliets role. This would intrigue a representative of Markus Jolly Studios who convinced her to audition for a role on there new sitcom "Suburbia Overture". She would get the role of the daughter Melody. This would be Basils first Role in the acting industry.

Although the show was successful on the outside, lasting 5 seasons, 8 thirty minute specials and a musical. The inside took its toll on the child's psyche. There were constant problems that Basil has refused to elaborate on. She claims that practicing her shape shifting calmed her down when it go intense. She mimicking was noticed by another representative, this time one from, Golden Arch Studios who gave her the first opportunity for a feature film role. She hesentently accept. Thus 1981 ended the Suburbia Overture run and began Basil's movie career.

The movie career was a bit more lax than in Suburbia. Basil had finally realized their dream and they were happy. There were a few directors and cameramen with foul intentions (basil refused further elaboration) but they seemed overall fine. There shape shifting has improved. No two movies were the exact same, many people assumed ther differences in face were from practical effects and makeup.

However nothing good can last forever, after the successful release of "Class up the bat!" In the march of 1984 (Film Fun magazine cover shown). Golden Arch began a search for other actors to experiment with Basil. Basil, completely not taking the hint, began to worry about being replaced,began using their shape shifting for more than acting. They began sabotaging other actors getting them blacklisted from Golden Arch. These efforts were mostly successful. Until the August of that month. They were caught on camera, shape shifting outside of a local TGI Fridays They had Finished robbing. To keep there, golden Arch and Markus Jolly Studios reputations somewhat clean and decent. District attorney Harvey dent( See two face's file) had basil plea insanity and had them shiped to the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum in hopes of helping her mental state.

Dr.Hugo Strange believed a huge reason she did her "escapades" was due to a lack of cooperation, communication and a general lack of appropriately aged friends. So he put her in his Arkham group, "strange's oddities" which at the time was just Ezra Rane but he claimed it was a start. As more "missions' went on and Abner joined the team, basil became more social, more skilled in her abilities and slightly more paranoid that someone would go wrong.

And some want wrong indeed. During a mission called "shaved iceberg" basil was figured out, captured and exposed to both psychological torture and harsh chemicals. Those chemicals (combined with there already unstable DNA created whqt we call clayface. After a 3 week period, basil was captured and supposedly cured by Dr Strange. Creeper was added to the team shortly after and things seem normal.

However I can't shake the feeling that he didn't do shit to fix this and used his "mind powers" to make it look like he did, basil can't see it but...I swear some times I see her melting like she did as clayface.....only time will tell if they find out or not.
