The first thing you can make out is the sound of shaky breathing and the rustling of leaves, the shaky vision of the camera and the darkness of the surroundings make it hard to really make out much else. There’s a rushed, hurried feeling to it, and more than once the camera or what one can assume to be one of the subjects of the video runs into an unexpected branch and there's a moment of hushed laughter before moving on. 

Much of the video goes on like this, a few minutes of this stumbling journey before finally they slow, heavy breaths in the new quiet- well as quiet as the deep forest can truly be- overtaking the small… trail? There's a flash that blinds the camera for a moment (and the cry of a much perturbed Porygon inside of it) and a quiet Kantonian command before the gentle glow of a Mareep’s star-shaped tail dimly lights up the scene, letting us see it sort-of clearly for the first time. 

To call this a trail is generous at best, overgrown and forgotten over the years, but it seems to be of little consequence to our subjects, aside from the stray leaf or stick in their hair. At the head of our ‘adventuring party’ is Bellamy, obviously the most affected by the ordeal, leaning on their cane, laughing softly at Casimir who is, well, absolutely not all that affected. Casi twirls in place, a manic sort of energy and excitement radiating through him that even the Gardevoir and Meowscarada trailing behind them seem to have trouble not finding a little humor in. Her Weavile seems to be much more preoccupied with the forest around them, alert and casting glances in every direction. 

“That was perfect we should do that again we should do that a hundred times actually I think Ai—”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself Tenshi, there's still a ways to go from here.” There's an affection behind the words, despite the warning. “We have to go, there’s n—”

Amy’s words are cut short by Casi grabbing them by the shirt collar and pulling them down into an excited, almost desperate kiss that seems to take the wind and any real fight out of the taller woman(?), melting a little bit into the touch. When Casi finally lets her go, there's a redness creeping across their cheeks that is just possible to catch.

“I uh- right. We um. We need to go.” 

“Sure thing, Kemansou~”

Casimir prances ahead down the trail before Amy can quite react. After a shake of the head they curse under their breath and with a laugh they, and the rest of the group, turn to follow her into the dark.

It's quiet here, and dark as the video starts. Crowded forest has been replaced by clear skies, a just-waning moon shining down from the starry sky. As the camera looks around it begins to become clearer where we find ourselves- the blinking lights and quiet movement of airship docks below, slower now in the darkness but not dead, the dark shape of one or two ships or blimps docked below and the bustle of passengers or cargo being loaded and unloaded.

The camera turns completely around, showing us more of the platform we find ourselves on, dark aside from the caution lights at the edges- both to stop a collision and to warn of the dangers of falling. It seems to be the highest of the docks, free from any prying eyes above and disused so late at night, abandoned if not for the odd group standing here in the mareep-light.

There’s a nervous sort of energy in the group, whatever euphoria that had run through them seemingly sapped by the trek down the mountain. Amy counts on their free hand, doing some kind of mental math while muttering under their breath to their ‘mareep’ who follows them as they pace, limping and leaning heavily on their cane. Casi checks in with the other pokemon, talking in hushed tones to the Meowscarada and Gardevoir- a half conversation we can only hear a few words of, as telepathy can’t be recorded. Her weavile prowls at the outskirts of the gathering, his feathers raised and wary. 

After a moment Amy nods and returns to the others, a look between the two trainers and a nod signifying an agreement on… something?

Everything happens almost at once.

With a hand signal from Amy, their ‘mareep’’s tail begins to brighten, the light slowly flashing and humming at a brightness that even in video is hard to look directly at. Casi returns the Meowscarada and calls her weavile back to her, gathering him in her arms. 

A loud, deafening noise grows around them as the air shifts, whipping hair and fabric about in a frenzy. The ‘mareep’ is recalled, for one drawn out moment leaving everything in darkness…

The noise grows and grows until it feels like it can't possibly get any louder, the camera practically shaking from it and then- with a burst of blinding light- a spotlight shines down on the party, silhouetting them against the source of the sound.

:{ What the fuck is that??!! ‘:3 }:

The helicopter hovers a few dozen feet above them, pattered after a Yanmega but what catches the eye is the bright, loud, undeniable logo. Team phobia.

As the door slides open Corky leans out over the open air, a smug looking grin as she shouts what must be some snarky quip- that's entirely drowned out by the sound of the blades. Behind her a concerned looking Armarouge reaches out a hand to make sure she doesn't topple directly out. Amy seems to shout something in return, whatever it is has the pair step back from the door and-

With a flash the small group is teleported from the ground and into the space where Corky just stood, up in the… up there… and we are still watching… from down here….

my first sprigatito was named Ralsei, as I was doing a Deltarune/Undertale name theme for my Violet team, my Azumarill was named Kris and my Flamigo was named Susie.

my second one, in my Scarlet playthrough (yes i used it again) had a plant name. It might’ve been Basil, but I’ve done multiple plant/spice/flower name themes across different generations so the names get a bit muddled, bc I distinctly remember using that name for a Stoutland in gen 5. I do remember that my Scarlet-playthrough Lucario was named Larkspur, and my Garchomp was Wisteria.

It sounds like Ralsei was definitely a good choice since Meowscarada also has a Magician-y vibe! (albeit, more performer than Ralsei's fantasy) I can also see how Azumarill and Flamigo would match Kris and Suise ^^

Flower themed names are also a lot of fun! There's a lot of possibilities to choose from: based on appearance, meaning in flower language, general vibe, similarity in names, etc. Both Basils, Larkspur and Wisteria seem well named to me :D

Name's Casimir Ginkgo, but I'd prefer it if you referred to me as Casi when I'm off the clock. He and she pronouns can be used for me interchangeably in Unovan. I'm a professor but not in the way you're thinking, I don't do the whole giving kids first partner pokémon thing so please do not ask for free pokémon. My current work is focused on slowly reintroducing Sinnoh's native sneasels and sneasler to their original habitats. I tend to focus more on the breeding and conservation efforts.

There isn’t a true purpose to me blogging here, but I’m happy to share facts about my work and the pokémon I love so much. I've worked with not only the full sneasel evolutionary line, but many other closely related pokémon! In my free time I also study various myths and legends from different regions and collect replica pokeballs but those are more of side hobbies.

Originally from Celestic Town, Sinnoh and got most of my schooling in the region, but I transferred in my final year and got my degree from Uva-Naranja Academy in Paldea. Traveled a bit more and then ultimately settled back down in Paldea for about a decade. More recently I've set up a permanent lab facility just outside of Aspertia City, Unova! I speak Sinnohan, Unovan, Paldean, and some Kantonian. Though I've been told my Kantonian is pretty bad.

I'm polyamorous and have several partners, including my wonderful husband of 11 years! (You can thank him for helping with all the new layout stuff, by the way!) I talk about them and to them a lot. My husband does not have his own public blog and just signs off with his name through anons. No you aren't allowed to have his actual blog, he doesn't want anyone to bother him. He's always been more of the lurking type I suppose. My other partner is Professor Amaryllis, who unfortunately doesn't have a social media page either. Anywhere. Strange.

She appreciates them so much as an aesthetic and as a pokemon, but Meowscarada is usually the one sweeping her entire team in league battles, and those sting more then a normal loss. With Quaquavel Bappy at least has water absorb but whats she supposed to do against a Guaranteed critical hit??

For me, what qualifies as “having used” a pokemon varies somewhat, but my main qualification, as someone who tries to complete the regional dex in pretty much every (modern, I’m not dealing with honey tree bs) pokemon game, is that I used them for more than just filling a spot in the dex, and became at least a little bit attached. this includes mainline titles, fangames, spinoffs, all of them (except Smogon- I’ve built a lot of teams there but I never use them lol). Nicknames are a good sign of this, as I don’t typically name mons that are just for the dex, but ones that I’m catching for my team get names, but this is not always the case as even if I use them I don’t typically name legendaries/mythicals, like the Koraidon and Walking Wake I used in the DLC and competitively.

if I remember correctly, this was Inclement Emerald? don’t mind the nicknames, I like picking a theme, and for this one it was Egyptian deities, but I also have some mons that I always name the same thing due to nostalgia, mainly Cyndaquil (and by extension its evolutions), who is always Ember after my first starter and mystery dungeon teammate

if I’m remembering correctly I went for a Greco-Roman mythology theme with my names for my PLA team: Bellona (H. Decidueye), Nemesis (Luxray), Pluto (Alpha Crobat), Helen (Gardevoir), and Neptune (Alpha Gastrodon)

Haven’t got any screenshots on hand for them, but I had a plant (mostly flowers) name theme for my Scarlet playthrough, I distinctly remember Larkspur the Lucario and Wisteria the Garchomp (after the one I used in pokemon prism many years ago), and also plants (but mostly herbs) for Black, of which I recall my Snivy being named Sage and my Lillipup being named Basil.

My Violet playthrough main story team had an Undertale/Deltarune name theme: Ralsei (Meowscarada), Kris (Azumarill), Susie (Flamigo), Maddie (Talonflame it’s short for mad dummy because I was running out of braincells), Berdly (Kilowattrel), So Sorry (Grafaiai) who got swapped out for a Clodsire whose name I can’t remember rn.

My Shield team, which was where I started doing themed nicknames, all were named after Kingdom Hearts characters bc that was my most recent hyperfix at the time. This included, with this list being a mix of my story, postgame, and competitive teams: Demyx (Inteleon), Marluxia (G. Rapidash), Riku (Shiny Umbreon), Elrena (Bolthund), Larxene (Salazzle), Luxu (Shiny Decidueye), Axel (Gmax Charizard), Strelitzia (shiny Milotic), and more that I can’t remember off the top of my head, it’s been a while.

bonus random screenies from my switch and a fun fact: did you know that pokemon you take a picture with in Hisui have a special ribbon when transferred to SV? it gives them the title “<name> of the Distant Past”

Sneaks the Weavile ✨First partner pokémon!✨

Obtained 2004

Casi's first ever pokemon and a gift from her father, a weavile caught on Mt. Coronet. Somewhere in his genetic lineage is evidence that his family included Hisuian sneasels, though distantly enough that it does not seem to alter his traits. He's extremely protective when it comes to Casi, following her everywhere and sitting in her lap whenever possible. Sneaks has been trained to help Casi with her mental and physical health, though not through any formal training in those regards, simply by the two of them learning how to make things work during their years alone.

He's known to have a big attitude, growling if someone unfamiliar reaches for Casi or if anyone tries to take her attention. When he likes someone he hides their belongings in the house so that they cannot leave without them. When someone like Amy comes to visit, he makes sure to bring Amy everything they could possibly need in order to leave as soon as possible.

Basil the Meowscarada ✨Enrollment gift at Uva-Naranja Academy✨

Obtained 2009

Casi's second pokemon that he received on his first day of classes. Despite being a battler, if Basil had the choice he would prefer something more akin to contest shows, wanting to focus on the theatrics of the battle rather than actually winning. He also taught himself how to juggle as a Floragato, which he seems to enjoy doing. At least he must enjoy it, Casi isn't actually sure why he does that otherwise.

He's become quite bonded with Amy's gardevoir, Rose, to the point that just seeing her will usually cause him to start purring. There was once a time that the pair were inseparable, and though they were forced to be apart for a while, Basil seems determined to make up for the time that they lost.

Hotdog the Dachsbun ✨Casi's first wild caught pokémon✨

Obtained 2009

Casi caught Hotdog as a Fidough just outside of the Academy's walls, and was one of the three members of his gym challenge team. Her friendly and unassuming attitude makes it hard to believe she is one of his better battling pokemon to this day. She's reliable when it comes to not only caring for the younger pokemon but keeping them in line. Usually. In reality she can in fact be bribed with food, a fact that Arlene has learned quite well.

Anyone visiting Casi must be prepared to pay the pet tax and give Hotdog at least some attention, or she will sit at their feet and beg until they give in.

Hemlock the Sneasler ✨The first modern Sneasler!✨

Obtained 2014

An egg hatched in Casi's breeding program, Hemlock from a young age showed the aptitude necessary for evolution. Casi opted to raise him herself and, when he was ready, used a razor claw she had obtained in Kanto to evolve him. He's the first sneasler to be born and evolve in the 21st century, a huge scientific accomplishment and Casi's greatest achievement.

His success story has not only served as the sort of proof of concept the research team needed, but an important stepping stone as Hemlock himself has sired a large number of sneasels in the program over the years. This means that in the realm of professors and researchers, Hemlock is Casi's most recognizable pokemon.

Hemlock is trained to answer to commands in Unovan, Sinnohan, and a near extinct dialect of the Hisuian language that is reserved for special demonstrations at science conferences. While he's well trained to handle bustling conference halls and regular lab work, his authentic battle experience is lacking.

Bell the Shuppet ✨The ghost that took out Casi's power!✨

Obtained January 2023

Bell was a rather sudden addition to Casi's life, knocking out his power on New Year's Day and completely derailing his holiday plans. She possesses an electric tera type, occupying Casi's breaker box before ultimately being flushed out. Now she prefers to hide in a pile of plush toys in Casi's bedroom, journeying out most often to hover over anyone in the house who may be in a gloomy mood.

At first she saw Casi as more of a constant food source of negative thoughts, but grew to like him over time. Though, she still isn't a fan of people touching her for the most part. If you hold your hand up for her, she might nuzzle into it if she's feeling particularly cuddly.

Indigo the Charmander ✨The living furnace!✨

Obtained February 2023

Adopted from a care facility with the job of being Casi's personal heater in case the power went out again, Indigo has been a fixture of the Ginkgo household. Rather than using any of the beds provided to him he prefers to spend most of his time in the fireplace, keeping the logs lit and the room warmer than most in the house. To prevent accidental fire he wears a safety lantern on the tip of his tail to protect his flame. He also wears a choice scarf that he personally picked out for himself—by chewing on it at the store, forcing Casi to pay for it.

He's nippy and known to challenge other pokemon to tests of strength and power. His match seems to be Hotdog, who is immune to his fire attacks and able to outmatch him at his current size. All of this would seem to suggest he doesn't get along with his housemates, which is quite the contrary! This behavior is in fact how he shows affection, and while Casi has tried to train it out of him nothing seems to have worked. Amy is his favorite friend and his favorite chew toy.

Arlene the Alolan Meowth ✨A special trade with Amy!✨

Obtained April 2024

First surrendered to Amy along with the pair of salazzles, Quicksilver and Slowgold, Arlene was notoriously uncooperative with Amy. She did however seem to bond exceptionally with Casi, leading to the professor insisting that she keep her. They ultimately decided upon a trade in which Casi gave a Hisuian qwilfish by the name of Butch over to them.

Her charms include a sassy attitude, being unusually large for an unevolved meowth, opening cabinets despite pokemon-safe locks being installed, and competing with Sneaks for the space in Casi's lap while he watches TV.
