I think it should be a law you have to play WMYB at a wedding. My bff that I go to all my 1D related events with and send all my 1D related tiktoks to have discussed that i would simply play all their albums as a band and solo at my wedding and everyone would just have to enjoy. It's so nice you got to bond over it! I think it's amazing how music and artists can bring people together! I actually dread them doing a reunion tour in some ways. Of course I would be ecstatic but with the way concert ticket prices are, I really don't know if I could do it :/ And I'm sure it would be INSANE to get them anyway. Nothing new here. I went for walks this week and just relaxed a lot. I'm hoping to not stress myself out too much this summer. Other than that 🤷‍♀️ nothing much here. The one thing that's hard as a teacher is I have a lot more free time in the summer (for which I'm very grateful) but my nonteacher friends don't want to hang out on a weeknight to get dinner 😂 it takes up like every weekend! Grammy Nominations and Live Shows OH MY!!

LOUIS’ BACK!!! And I don’t mean “oh he liked something on Instagram” or “oh he tweeted about a RHCP concert”, I mean he’s going to be doing a VEEPS LIVESHOW! And so we solve the mystery of the Spotify vids (they were a stage!): a few hours before the announcement, he tweeted, “Hope you’re all doing alright. Exciting stuff coming up!!”, and then left the masses to wonder what could possibly be happening and when. Three anxious hours later: “So excited to announce that I’m getting my band and crew back together to put on a special show for you all that will be streamed December 12 [!!!adkhfkadhfjj!!!] and will be available for 28 hours after. The show will support 5 important causes very close to my heart”. The causes Louis Tomlinson Live From London will support are FareShare (they redistribute food to communities in need), CrewNation (the LiveNation COVID crew fund), StageHand (similar to CrewNation, but UK based), Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and paying Louis' own touring crew! The tickets go on sale TOMORROW. If you can't afford one, Luke Massie (founder and CEO of Vibe Tickets) is giving funds away on twitter to fans who want to watch the show! “I’ll do my best to help as many of you as I can see him and his amazing crew perform,” he said. Louis has said that there is no cap on the ticket sales, so I’m taking him at his word and hoping that Veeps is prepared for what's about to happen (they're REALLY not lol.)

And that’s not all!! AND!!!!!! Harry has been NOMINATED FOR THREE FUCKING GRAMMYS!! GUYS, HE MADE IT! The categories he is up for are: Best Music Video (Adore You - the TASTE), Best Pop Solo Performance (Watermelon Sugar), and BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM! I know that we’re always like, Grammys mean nothing, and how can we feel otherwise 1D was never nominated, but this is a MILESTONE in his career, and I am so happy to see his work getting the recognition it deserves! There were no nominations for him in the general field this year (artist or record of the year) BUT just you WAIT. Everything that Harry does makes me think that he is gearing up for a very long and successful career and I am. Very Happy for him. And so is everyone else! Harry’s friends, family, colleagues, and labels have all been quick to congratulate him on his well deserved recognition. In other Harry news, we got some stills from an Austrailian movie called “Holding the Man” which bear remarkable similarities to the Golden music video. (Were Harry's Vans really in there as a tribute to the film or did that part just work out very well for him??) The movie and the song don’t have anything in common thematically except being gay, but it really looks like a visual homage to this film (or, my personal theory, a fix-it fic to give it a happy ending!). And! Harry was papped on the DWD set with Florence Pugh again today, in a suit and an opulent background - it’s hard to make out Harry’s face, but I think we can guess that it's beaming in pride, as it should be.

GQ Spain did a piece on Liam’s Hugo capsule, praising it for being “the utilitarian style” (“the star trend of 2020”). They’re very nice about it, and seem to be genuinely interested and like the color scheme of the clothes: “the monocolor look...is an irrefutable argument in men’s clothing”. They also praise the collection for being an example that “you don’t need to spend hours in front of a mirror to dress like the best dressed men on the planet”. All of these were meant to be compliments, I SWEAR! Niall was around on Twitter yesterday, reminiscing about the time when some fans asked Justin Beiber to take pictures of them with Niall, it's true Niall that IS hilarious and also good psychic timing: that's EXACTLY how relevant Justin Beiber should be (yes I AM bitter the Weeknd was ROBBED). He also congratulated Shawn Mendes for his documentary, “So proud of this boy. He’s smashed it and always so humble. Well done to everyone involved.X”. I have not seen this documentary but if there are any more “Camila Cabello orders bananas at sushi restaurants moments” PLEASE let me know!

1. you can call me tori (i'm sorry but little quirky nicknames are cringy to me. hope that doesn't offend you but i literally can't even call a family member or an animal a nickname.)

2. opinion on larry- i think its so stupid. just say it is / was real. so?? the way larries talk about larry so often, it seems they are the ones that have a problem with it. at least most antis don't go on an on about it.

and i can kinda see where people think larry was real in like 2011 but after that, i don't see it at all. but i say kinda real because in all honesty, i don't think louis every saw harry that way. i think maybe harry had a crush on louis in the younger days of 1D but i also had crushes on girls (me female) when i was younger but it was never a sexual attraction to them.

as far as in 2021, i see no signs of larry being real. and what larries don't understand is, half of what they say is basically stereotyping gay men and making straight men insecure on how they act.

i mean when harry or louis sat beside each other or gave each other a hug, they use that as proof they were in a relationship. therefore, just say louis and harry were straight, larries are basically saying straight boys/men can't be close without calling it gay.

then they say gay isn't an insult. correct, if you aren't mislabeling someone. calling someone gay that isn't or doesn't identify as such is wrong. you wouldn't call a bi person pan. or an asexual person demisexual.

at the end of the day, real or not, why put in the effort to talk about it. it's so toxic because if its real, louis and harry are miserable because they are being closeted and must be super sad in their lives and that's what larries are basically wanting to be true if they want larry real so bad.

3. i love harry x reader x niall fics / smuts but i don't know if i could write one. the main reason i can write harry is because i feel like i can capsulate his mannerisms and voice (well at least in my head) where as niall or any other 1D for that matter, i find it hard to do so. harry's accent is the easiest for me to hear in my head and i'm the type of reader that tries to hear the persons accent while reading their characters. if you are looking for narry x reader fics, i can recommend some to you though if you haven't read many or want to know more.

Literally what is it about kpop I feel like I blinked and half my dash had turned into kpop stans and I used to really like your takes on One Direction but now you’re a kpop stan too I just really don’t get it they seem even more manufactured than 1D to me

I think to me, it depends on your definition of the term manufactured. Like, I think in some ways, the fact that they are quite open about being put in groups by agencies and not actually being like best friends since childhood or whatever makes their interactions with each other feel a lot more real than they were in groups like One Direction where they kept playing up that they were best friends and brothers but by the end of the group you could tell half of them didn’t even really like each other.

The kpop industry is fucked up and exploitative in a lot of ways, I won’t deny that. But I feel the same way about the western music industry and the film industry and every industry basically. These are young kids who move away from their families as teenagers and get worked to the bone for a chance to debut and the amount of time that they actually get to be in an active group varies but can be relatively short, with most contracts being seven years but some groups being as short as 2 1/2. There are also fucked up aspects like trainee debt, where children who don’t debut then owe money to the company for the cost of basically raising them, although from what I understand this isn’t as common anymore.

But that doesn’t mean the members themselves are fake or manufactured or bad. They certainly are products of their environment, with a lot of them doing things like getting plastic surgery before they’re even done debuting and not really understanding how ~common people live their lives bc despite being in school as trainees most of them go to performing arts schools specifically for trainees so they have time to practice or perform schedules if they debut before they graduate. But they’re also still human.

A lot of the groups I stan produce and write their own music, do things like weekly livestreams to talk to fans, come on social media quite often to share their days or joke around with their fans, etc. People like Namjoon from BTS and Chan from Stray Kids are known for being super open with fans and being a very huge comfort for people. The rap line of BTS and 3racha of Stray Kids actually write music with less writers than every member of One Direction currently does and the music gets really deep and discusses things like mental illness, heartbreak, their lives as idols, etc. I really recommend songs like uhgood from RM and alien by han jisung to get a taste of what I’m saying.

It’s possible that all members of kpop groups are really well trained to wear a mask 24/7 and nothing we see is real, there’s no doubt of that. They definitely play up things like ships and certain aspects of their personalities on camera too, for fans. But a lot of kpop stans know that and fully acknowledge it and still love the members for the pieces we see of the real them anyway. So yes, the groups are quite literally manufactured, and idols are supposed to have a certain image, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t still share large pieces of themselves and connect with fans. It’s that connection that endears and traps people so easily and quickly.

Also the music is usually fire. haha.

I’m a Zayn stan but Harry must be the most popular one for a reason, I feel like he’s the most charismatic one and people think he’s the most attractive (that’s Zayn for me though lol). He’s def got the most promo and hardest working team but I think it’s also his personality, like when Liam went on Jonathan Ross/Graham Norton I feel like he wouldn’t have gained as many new fans or inpressed as many viewers as Harry would have. It does annoy me how obsessed some people get about Harry though.

Okay unpopular opinion and I'll probably get crucified by this, but this is just my personal opinion on this subject. 

Harry is popular and in “demand” right now mostly due to the connections he has and the way he is promoted. It’s not that his team works the hardest, but that his team (aka Azoffs) has the resources (money and famous contacts) to invest on his promo. Let’s not forget that Columbia invested a lot of money on his solo deal and that he was “groomed” to be the frontman of 1D basically since day 1. We could all see it happening especially in 2015, let’s not fool ourselves. 

I think he is charismatic, but especially in a few moments it seems a bit “hollow” to me. I don’t think he is a bad person and I know he works a lot on his art, but the way he is marketed helps a lot with his success. 

Let’s also not forget that Liam’s success in 2017 and even in 2018 was mostly due to the GP and gaining new fans, more than 1D fans actually supporting him. The same goes for Zayn! The harsh truth is that neither Liam’s or Zayn’s teams actually do the work to promote them in the right way. The way that’s focused on their art!!!

(i have liked some of their songs for full disclosure but i don’t always learn the names of members of bands i like. so). so like i have no idea if what you’re saying is “true” in terms of larries(larrys? larry’s?) moving over to tk specifically or only. like, have you met j*k**k shippers? i’ve said this a million times, but, we’re literally cousins. and basically those creepy cousins from mississippi who 9 out of 10 times get married. like, we’re the same fandom wise, and i say this as someone who while only writes tk and are my OTP, i’ve always said i’m ot7 and read all ships so i have had exposure to jk as a ship. and. yeah. cousins, identical cousins. i don’t know how people pretend this isn’t true.  

i have heard that a lot of bts newer fans were 1d fans. but i have to counter that intense shipping has existed in kpop for years. and i’m not saying western fans aren’t intense, but so are asian/korean fans. i was around in 2nd gen and these chicks were showing up at fan signs/concerts with printed out fanfic and explicit manips and handing them to the idol group members. so. obviously, the internet being now what it is, even back in 2010-15, has allowed for fans to concentrate in heavy numbers the way they never have been able to so we are more exposed to intense hardcore shipping. but, like, there was john lenon/paul mccartney fan fiction back in the day. like, that was a thing. again. so.  yeah, so i’m not really sure if i answered your question(s) but yeah like to be really blunt, i don’t care about how anyone else views/ships tk. i care how i see/view them. when i first got in fandom i did have thoughts TM and opinions TM, but now i’m just like “chill and let chill”. i wish there were more nuance in fandom sometimes, but i genuinely think people are gonna ship/think what they do and if you’re a reasonable person, you realize there is space for everyone and you are responsible for curating your own online experience the way you want it. it maybe shouldn’t be this way, but that’s just how the internet at large moves. yeah, so if your hypothesis is true, there's nothing i can do about it and it has nothing to do with me so i don’t care because there’s just nothing to do if you catch my drift. if my fic doesn’t vibe with most tk shippers for whatever reason *shrug emoji*. it is what it is. i view shipping fandom as a mirror of the fandom in general, and to be even more blunt, i don’t vibe with a lot of how this fandom moves. so again, i just don’t care. it has nothing to do with me. i’m here to have a good time with the people i vibe with. i would hope, so is everybody else.

I think to start off i should just make a little disclaimer, everything i am going to discuss will be based in my biases probably seeing as I am also a brown British Pakistani person who is Muslim. Zayn has been someone that especially when i was younger I looked up to and was very essential in my journey of learning to love and accept myself and my culture tbh. It’s cheesy as hell but it’s true and i think this is important to know before I go into this more because like I said i am definitely biased towards him. Another thing is that I’m just going to be discussing my personal opinions and also my memory is not very good so i will probably miss out a lot of other things that happened/could be discussed. please dont take this as anything more than just. my opinion.

A thing that really opened my eyes to racism and especially the racism in the 1d fandom was the day that zayn left. I dont think thats what the post above was about btw and ill go into that but i kind of just want to talk about this. The day he left was. a severe mess. Not only because it was obviously upsetting but because of all the bs that people were spouting about a situation that absolutely no one had any context on. the statement that was released on facebook gave us nothing. literally just stated that zayn was leaving the band and the accusations and hatred people were directing towards zayn when we didnt know what actually fucking happened (and still dont might i add) was disgusting. people accusing him of being selfish and how they hated him and why he had to ruin everything. Accusing him of using mental illness as an excuse and lying about it and so much more. i had unfollow more than half of the people i followed that day. it really opened my eyes to the fact that these were all thoughts and opinions people had underneath it all and zayn was fine as long as he was part of 1d and giving people what they wanted. which was essentially being the token in the group and once he wasnt providing that anymore? people turned and people turned fast.

i think its also important to point out the flip side of it and that was zayn stans saying that 1d were nothing without 1d etc. i want to talk about why this was different from ot4 stans hating zayn. of course it wasnt nice to see or hear EVERYONE arguing with each other. i hated it so much. but i think what people failed to realise was that when it comes to situations like this you need to look deeper and think about all the nuances of the situation. zayn stans being happy about zayn leaving the band and saying 1d was going to die i did not agree with. anyone who knew me then and knows me now knows that i am a 1d stan regardless (preferably ot5 but i supported 1d until the end even as a 4some) BUT these opinions were rooted in his mistreatment in the band and the racism he was having to face as a result of being in the band etc etc i apologise for not being a person who can better describe and explain this situation but hopefully you are getting the picture. when fans were hating on zayn. with no context with nothing. that was based on racism. point blank. the amount of tweets FROM 1D FANS talking about how he was leaving to join isis and how upset fans were gonna be vulnerable and join etc etc all this deplorable bs. and he had to deal with comments like that throughout his whole time with one direction and i imagine even now. 

Another thing id like to talk about is who zayn stans at least from my point of view usually were. For me i remember when i first got into the fandom i actively made the decision that i didnt want zayn to be my favourite because i didnt want to be a stereotype and this was a point in my life when i still tried to shun and push my culture down because i was ashamed of it. it was only as i slowly saw that zayn was considered as cool and hot and everyone else liked him that i kind of understood that maybe. being brown was alright and it was something cool and that maybe i was cool. it sounds fucked up and honestly i dont even know if i want to be admitting this so adamantly but argh if it helps someone understand then maybe its worth it. (mortifying ordeal of being known eh?) anyways i noticed as i engaged more in fandom and looked for more diversity, more fans like me, majority of non white fans were also... zayn stans. and honestly it makes sense because we all tended to flock towards the closest diversity we could find it seems. im not saying that there werent white zayn stans and that the other boys didnt have non white stans but i just wanted to point out this trend. so when you also take this into account and the fact that on the day zayn left it was majorly... white stans who were criticizing zayn it puts it in perspective for you. majority of fans who still like and support zayn are also not white.

there is a lot more to do with fans but hopefully thats enough of an insight and you can understand the kind of vibes that were present during 1ds prime and what not only zayn had to go through but also as a result the racism we ended up having to deal with as well tbh.

now!!!... something i dont really like talking about lol so this will probably be short but the other boys. so as far as i can remember liams always been kind to zayn since hes left (no surprise there <3 also please correct me if im wrong), niall was kind of indifferent/didnt say anything really, and then there was louis and harry *awkward smile*. hahaha. from my memory i remember when asked about what the most difficult thing was about zayn leaving harry said ‘the paperwork’ which was *awkward smile* and he also kicked that monkey mask/pinata? i cant remember with naughty boys face on it and honestly im sure theres more but his overall reaction to zayn leaving was kind of not caring and maybe being slightly nasty which :) with louis there was the massive twitter fight which literally tears my soul in half so lets not go into that haha and honestly other things where it maybe seemed like he was upset with zayn leaving as well. honestly i am a bit in two minds about these reactions because at the end of the day we dont know what occurred behind the scenes and we probably never will as much as we can speculate or whatever. not to mention that this 10th anniversary it seems maybe everyones on good terms which, who knows really im going to try be optimistic. i think whats important to note about heir reactions is that we dont know anything about their situations but the problem was really how fans reacted tbh (btw i forgot to mention earlier this is about basically everything except for harry and the nb thing. that is inexcusable). the boys reactions were understandable but the problem is that fans of course vicariously are influenced by the boy they stan so when one of them acted a certain way of course that ended up reflecting in fandom and resulted in more racism etc. 

another thing with zayn was that there were many files leaked with like promo or whatever basically describing what kind of role the boys would take on/ their image etc. and of course all the other boys got things like bubbly/funny/charming etc and zayns descriptors? moody, mysterious, dark horse etc etc like from the inception of 1d zayn has been victim to racist stereotypes being pushed on him. and i think this is where harry comes in because of course the image pushed onto him was also extremely harmful and i definitely dont think we should not talk about that but often you'll see that... thats all that is talked about because people are uncomfortable admitting racism and talking about it. 

When i mentioned other celebrities my point was basically just that while ive only talked about zayn in one direction this... is so present among any and every fandom. 5sos, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony... any fandom you can think of, i promise you it is there. racism in fandom is a real thing and a big problem and honestly this is why i always say representation is so important. and when i say that i mean everywhere!!! because if I didnt seek out non white fans to follow then maybe i would’ve had a completely different perspective on all of this.

The thing is also that a lot of this is just stuff that we’ve been able to get our hands on and also fan analysis and theories etc. there is probably so much more to talk bout or go into or stuff we’ll never even know about. I’ve kind of had to make peace with the fact that with celebrities you just really don’t actually know anything about them.

Hi I hope you are doing well! I sent the ask a couple days ago about about the difference between 1D & BTS when it comes to gfs. And your answer really made me think why I’m moving on. And everything you said hit the nail on the head. But I think what personally exhausts me the most is the narrative that the 1D boys hate each other & solo stans eating it up. I know the boys don’t hate each other I believe actions speak louder than words & there’s tons of footage that those boys really (pt1)

were friends. Unless they took acting classes in between shows it’s really hard to pretend to like someone you hate! Like that one saying says “All good things come to end” and always knew 1D wouldn’t last forever the animosity that the media/fans try to portray is what ultimately made me stop enjoying being in the 1D fandom :(. I Will continue to support from a afar all  their solo endeavors especially ziam since they are my faves. And if the five boys ever decide to come back together (pt2)

And I agree 100%. That narrative, that they all hated each other by the end, feeds into the worst of this fandom. It also creates this awful imbalance, because at least before when there was “gf” drama, we had the interactions between the five of them to make it better. Now we’re basically at a tilt all the time lol.

And I’m not even one of those people who needs to believe they’re all still the best of friends right now. I understand what it’s like to bond with people in certain situations and then kinda grow apart when it’s over. I know what it’s like to outgrow some relationships. So maybe I don’t necessarily believe the 1d group chat is constantly blowing up every day lol, but I do believe they’re all fine with each other and that there’s so much brotherly love there.

There’s this all-or-nothing mentality within the fandom sometimes where a relationship is either intense abiding love or intense hate. Like when Liam brought up not really speaking to Harry that often and it was somehow translated into “LIAM HATES HARRY AND CURSED HIS FAMILY AND SET A GUCCI BAG ON FIRE ON IG LIVE”. And it was like ??? When was the last time you had a deep conversation with your old co-worker from Petco lmao, please calm down. Friends can not talk all the time and still be friends. Nuance exists! But that’s not what get clicks on gossip sites, so the media just fuels the feuds and the fandom falls for it every time.

I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on different ways they interact with fans in light of their personalities and teams and so on, if you’d like to!

God, I’m so sorry that this has taken me so long to answer! I *do* talk some shit in interviews have some thoughts about their current management teams and how they *do* seem to reflect each artist’s myriad goals and constraints, how they aren’t sabotaging things (given what we know is going on), how they have to walk such a fine line with fan involvement, but lordt, that is not a popular opinion. 

Probably because 1Dhq actually *did* know what they were doing: they wanted to exploit five young guys for immediate fame and short-term gain, and they did it primarily through constant fan access and overly publicized private lives (real and fake). Turning that spigot off or trying to change its course isn’t exactly easy because a lot of fans struggle to a) absorb the post-1D landscape in general and their role in it in particular, let alone b) understand how much the music industry has changed from even one year ago (spoiler: it requires following other artists closely, and I just don’t see that here). Add to that the fact that these men themselves (yes, they’re all in their mid-20s now, they’re men) seem to encourage intense fan engagement when it serves a specific purpose (looking at you in anger, recent tweet from Niall), and the waters just get muddier, le sigh.

I keep writing and rewriting my thoughts, and they keep spiraling out of control because this is a topic that fires me UP, especially because it mixes in some things that I could spend hours venting about:

the amateur marketing experts and business analysts who feel qualified to make sweeping statements in spite of having no clue about the goals, budgets, constraints, personal life issues, conflicting schedules, or anything else happening bts

the baffling assumption that any of these guys is a struggling indie artist aged 19 who desperately requires any of our unpaid labor and angst, 24/7 (OR TO CALL UP RADIO STATIONS, NIALL)…they are male millionaires at this very moment in time

the policing of anyone enjoying anything because they just don’t get how terrible it is that a magazine with the characters from “Frozen” on the cover “leaked” an album title

the underlying misogyny in so much of allll of this (and this one ALONE I could go on about for days)

the use of words like, “I’m so confused about why xx is or isn’t happening”…because, yeah, makes sense, YOU DON’T WORK THERE, IT ISN’T YOUR JOB TO BE UNCONFUSED ABOUT IT

Deep breath, yes, I know, “not all fans”: lots of people like me focus on loving them, supporting them, buying songs, buying an album, going to a show, buying some merch, screaming about bullshit on tumblr. But a small but extremely vocal minority screams about how I’m not doing “enough,” and newsflash, I’m not paid to stream songs all night or call radio stations or make presents or absorb the levels of anxiety I see in some inboxes, and more to the point, I’m not paid to feel guilty about it from a fellow fan or deal with a bunch of misguided anonymous bullshit. I get tired just thinking about it, tbqh. Teams of people literally DO get paid to handle the majority of that, in fact.

That’s my hot take on the fan side, anyway (I wrote up a full breakdown per man in the D—how each team is actually honoring each man’s various goals, how fans are involved in that process because it’s literally part of the promo process, you are a commodity, etc.—but it’s winter, and I’m tired, so I’ll save that for some other time). The bigger issue is what these teams actually manage, and why I feel some sympathy for them (NOTE THAT I’M NOT A DUMBASS, THE FOLLOWING IS GIVEN: the music industry is fucking awful, mgmt teams get paid handsomely, most of them are monsters, artists get screwed no matter what, I don’t lose sleep over a mgmt team’s pain, deep breath, calm down). 

As Kim said waaaay more eloquently than I ever could when I was in full vent mode with her yesterday (??? feels like years ago, lmao), people don’t give their teams enough credit for the impossibly complicated situations they’re managing. This was her overall point, and I completely agree: these guys are all closeted, but it’s so much more complicated than “some fans cling to their het fantasies so their teams (have to) keep up the closet and cater to them but end up alienating fans who think they aren’t straight”, because what about the contracts (not just Simon’s, but the ones with Sony, Capital, Columbia, the Azoffs, any other powerful person who’s treated them like shit and/or handcrafted their image for at least six years)? 

Their teams don’t just have to deal with a fandom that’s split into different factions that are basically at war over opposing images of who these guys are and what their lives look like, they ALSO have to deal with it in a way that doesn’t breach ANY of these old contracts or tells any subsection of fans that they’ve been lied to by their idol for a decade or plays into any of the (pretty arbitrary) things that either fans or the guys themselves have come to hate being associated with over the years, while ALSO crafting an image that’s distinct and individual enough to distance them from 1D enough to have a solo career, while ALSO being recognizable enough for existing fans to still stan. All that, PLUS they have to listen to their client’s wishes and help them navigate whatever it is they’re trying to accomplish as artists. It’s not an easy task even for the best team, so mistakes will be made, miscalculations will happen, big news will pop up in a throwaway article in a magazine that’s promoting the vocal talents of the “Frozen” cast. And it doesn’t mean that the team is BAD, let alone sabotaging anyone on purpose: it most likely just means that they’re trying to handle a very difficult situation and are doing it in real time. They’re building a plane as they’re flying it. On top of that, they know information we simply don’t–much of it highly personal and volatile.

1- Hi Ralph I’m sorry but I need to rant because I’m fucking pissed. I just saw Harry’s pictures and omg... What are they even thinking? I can’t believe that he’s preaching that people should stay at home while he’s probably in a mansion in LA and then decides that doing a pap walk the next day is a good idea?? Spare me the bullshit of “oh my it’s so hard to stay at home and be alone and not be able to be with the people you love...”

2- and then go out the same day on a stupid pap walk with Kendall Jenner as if hundreds of people if not thousands are not dying? I’m writing from Spain, where we are going to start our fourth week of quarantine, our president said that it would go until the 26th of April and we can’t go out once a day. If we could it would be walking around your neighbourhood for 30 mins max. And not taking your motorbike and going for a ride and hanging out with friends on a car to get papped.

3- Because I don’t believe that a pap just stood there and suddenly Kendall Jenner’s car and Harry happened to hang out right in front of them. And what pisses me off even more is the moral superiority with which celebrities act.. like donating to a food bank or to however many charities you want to makes up for being an asshole during a time like this. He makes vague statements about causes and never sticks to one.. like find one and stand behind your words don’t make empty statements.

4- And don’t get me started with TPWK... Just yesterday he said in an interview that for him kindness means being considerate okay so is he being considerate getting papped out with essential workers? immunocompromised people? with people with pre-existing conditions? with old people? with nurses, doctors... Basically the people who are ensuring that you can stay AT HOME? If you love the NHS so bad listen to what they say, show it and don’t put anyone at risk..

5- Also, I think people should hold him accountable of what he's doing and not just blame Jeff. He’s got such a big platform to promote change but is instead being selfish and not “kind” at all. Well I hate kindness and the rich... Right now specially the rich who try to shove kindness down our throats and then display their privilege for everyone to see. Sorry this got too long haha. Just annoyed and wondering why I follow this band.

I’m so sorry for everything you are dealing with anon.  It must be so hard to be going into your fourth week of lockdown - let alone everything else.  Love and solidarity.

The stuff with Harry is very weird, particularly the Daily Mail not labelling him and therefore presumably the multiple photographers who were there not knowing what they had.  I think the most plausible theory is that Kendall was doing a prearranged pap shoot (which it has to be because of the two different angles).  And Harry ran into her after going on a motorbike to pick up his one loaf of bread.  That is quite a hilarious thing to have happened - so I like it as a theory.  But it’s still pretty implausible - particularly that he ran into her exactly where the paps were - and the second picture with them both there.  We’ll put it down as one of those mysteries.

If you’re feeling angry at Harry then I say rage away! What are celebrities for if not outlets for feelings at these times.  I also don’t think it’s a bad thing if people are less ‘we stan a rich king’ and more ‘you know what’s great? Redistribution of wealth.’

I just have a couple more things to say.  The first is I totally agree that blaming Jeff for any of this is absurd.  Jeff doesn’t have powers to make Harry ride a motorbike, with his loaf of bread.  But as I’ve said lots of times I don’t think you can hold Harry accountable, and it’s not appropriate to try.  You can dislike what Harry does, you can express your opinion, both about him and to him and you can leave, but there is no mechanism of accountability for total strangers.  Even in a pandemic I’m going to resist the idea that celebrities can or should be accountable to their fans. 

Finally, I feel like I’m not helping anyone else or myself by posting 1D related Coronavirus content.  It ends up being a weird, indirect way of processing my rage at the world (and at the moment Keir Starmer, which has upped my general rage levels a lot).  I’ve really appreciated hearing people experiences and feelings and views, but I’ll probably publish way less from now on (although I can still answer if people send me off anon).  From now on I’m going to only post Coronavirus 1D related content on two conditions: I like what they’re doing or it’s really funny.  So yes for tweets about warehouses and probably all pap pics,  but particularly those involving loafs of bread, as well as quarantining headcanons (particularly if they involve rather obscure side characters - I will always be here for Oli theories), and  no to anything where they tell people in general what to do.

this is a totally fair and valid critique. Yes it’s very possible. I don’t know quite how to explain it but I always get like a sixth sense feeling that makes me go from casual listener to Stan. And it’s all rooted in authenticity and like something that feels real. It could all be bullshit, but like I need to feel something in order to stan. It’s been that way with me always. Whether it was Demi and Eds and mental health, whether it was Nicki and feminism, whether it was Ariana political awareness, something needs to be there for me to feel like I can sink my teeth into it. and I need to feel like it’s a real person. This is why things like 1D and Taylor Swift never worked for me. Something about Shawn feels authentic. It feels genuine. It’s the whole fucking reason I stanned in the first place. 

Here’s what I know. I know he’s a 20 year old white dude from a small ass town in Canada. I know he’s constantly surrounded by a predominately white team. I know he’s sweet and kind to just about anyone he comes across, and that no one in the industry has a bad thing to say about him. At the end of the day I view him as just another white boy in one of my classes who means well, who think that kindness is really all you need in life because his experience and his world view has never pushed him any harder than that. I think he is blissfully and whole fully ignorant. Toxic? No. I think he literally knows nothing and no one has ever set an expectation that he know/experience anything different. NOW I think in 2019 that’s not enough. I think with google and police cams and twitter and hashtags and news apps, that this doesn’t get him off the hook. I mean, I’m pretty obsessed with the guy so I don’t think I could ever give an objective opinion about him? I think he’s a good actor and I’m also extremely attracted to him. I love his smile, he has beautiful eyes, an incredible jawline and I prefer him with beard but without is fine too. I love it when he wears leather jackets and floral shirts and velvet suits. I love how dorky and kind of awkward he is and how he’s constantly confused about everything but he also has lots of charisma. He seems calm but at the same time there’s this chaotic energy bubbling beneath at all times. He has the most soothing and pleasing speaking voice and I could listen to him talk for hours. He says “fuck” a lot which is incredible. I miss his weird as fuck IG lives where he basically just stared at the screen and talked about nothing and in the end didn’t know how to end “the live situation” or that one time he posted a video of himself running in a park while screaming, like, what a man... I admire that he doesn’t seem to be afraid to show his vulnerable side and that he captions his pictures on IG with long ass captions that are basically these heartfelt inspirational speeches. I mean, he posted a shirtless gym selfie and wrote a caption about battling self-hatred which resulted in me losing all my capacity to function for fifteen whole minutes. I was standing in my kitchen and I was weepy and horny at the same time. That man has too much power over me...

Also the fact that his godmother is the founder of my favorite makeup brand has always been a sign that we are definitely meant to be. The real reason I would marry that man is that I believe it would grant me a lifelong supply of ABH’s Perfect Brow Pencils (Sebastian, if you’re reading this, I use the shade “Granite”, please send them my way as soon as possible, or you can also bring them yourself, whatever).

On a more serious note, even if I’m quite obsessed with this man I also try not to put him on a pedestal. I have not always agreed with everything he has done or said, and even if I wouldn’t publicly post a rant about it on tumblr dot edu I scold him in my head with my disappointed teacher voice when, for example, he makes an inappropriate joke. He’s not perfect, no one is and in the end he is a celebrity who I don’t know for real and have no way of knowing how he actually is like as a person. Also he is a rich white man. That’s something I want to be aware of, not constantly, but in the back of my mind, you know?

I also do not know everything about him or what he’s done, I do not care who he dates (I think it’s appalling that he’s said that he wanted to take a step back from social media because people were being so horrible to him because of his personal life, that is none of our business). I don’t expect him to be politically active or be aware of every social issue there ever is. I don’t want to know too much because I have learned my lesson from being too involved with 1D and too much involvement eventually starts to affect my feelings in real life too much. I’m here to have fun, I’m here to watch his movies, I’m here to watch his interviews and after a stressful day at work I want to come here to relax and to be horny on main and have a few laughs and reblog pictures where he looks hot. Love the difference of support Niall gets when he says anything about his solo work :) it’s not everybody!!! But I look at the replies to all his solo tweets of people saying things like “I’m so sad please get the band together” and I think that’s so unfair. oh i know?? and like, don’t get me wrong, people who love and miss the band or even PREFER the band to the individual solo work are absolutely valid in their feelings, and there’s no issue wanting a day to celebrate/reminisce/cry/whatever it may be about that time, but it becomes an issue when a line is crossed wherea) EVERYTHING is made to be about the band all the time, to the point where it feels very dismissive of their solo careers altogether, including the work that they have and continue to put into it, as well as the happiness and fulfillment they seem to get out of itb) there’s EXPECTATIONS - or sometimes even DEMANDS - that the guys have to keep paying homage to the band or acknowledging the things fans do to make everything about the band, even when it’s an inappropriate time and place (eg: bringing up 1D or other members of 1D in niall’s M&Gs or soundchecks).

at this point, we’re nearly 4 years out from the band, so while i think it’s great if they choose to acknowledge major dates like the anniversary of the band being formed, i don’t think there should be demands made about it or bitching if they choose not to, you know?? and there DEFINITELY shouldn’t be the constant stream of “1D over everything” type comments @’ed directly at them, especially when it comes to their solo work. i feel like the stuff they’re doing now should be valued and appreciated that much more because it IS each of their chance to make something completely representative of themselves from start to finish, rather than have it be pushed aside purely because it’s not the band, you know?

(disclaimer that i feel i need to make: even if some 1D stans are shitty and make demands or seem to force a sense of obligation on any of them, in no way does that make it ok for solo stans to bitch and moan and be assholes to or about people that like or prefer the band or use the anniversary to celebrate it without crossing that line, regardless of who tweets and who doesn’t. at the end of the day, niall and the others DID come from 1D and there are always going to be people who prefer the band to the solo projects, just like there are always going to be solo stans that prefer one guy to another. it’s fucking FINE.)

and that brings me to my Thoughts yesterday re: niall’s 9 years tweet and the nh2 timeline- that tweet really does feel to me like it was basically the bare minimum he could have done?? it acknowledge the day and thanked the fans, but overall it’s very general, no specific mentioning of the band, no hashtag, no reminiscing. it’s the type of tweet that someone unaware of his past could look at and potentially have no clue that he’s talking about 1D rather than just HIMSELF. and with NH2 and the lead single getting closer and closer with each day, possibly even within the next month to month and a half, it really seems like that was probably an intentional choice (and a SMART choice) to maybe….distance himself a little bit from 1D? manage expectations in a way?? like still showing his gratitude for the support and pleasing the 1D stans, but also not getting TOO up in the feels where he’s inviting a whole new round of band-related questions during the upcoming promo tour. i think it makes sense that he would be at a place where he’s ready to move more and more away from the band questions and really focus on this solo career he’s building too, considering this is his 2nd album, his 5th-ish promo tour, nearly 4 years on from the band and he’s done well for himself completely on his own. and personally, i think the second tweet about spending the day mixing songs for the album fits into that idea? the way it seems to be subtly shifting the focus from the anniversary back to himself and nh2 and the fact that it’s fucking COMING coming, you know?

my 1d stan story is very longwinded hsksj but basically i hated them for the first 3 years because i was annoying and ~ not like other girls ~ but then i had a really bad breakup at 16 and basically had nothing to cling onto and somehow ended up a 1d fan lmao. I was primarily a harry girl at first and then slipped into larry and then disappeared a bit post-hiatus and only really kept up with harry before finding louis again during lockdown in 2020 and he’s had my heart since then, i came back to the fandom around that time too. Nowadays I wouldn’t say I was heavily involved, i don’t really enjoy the larrie side anymore and i’m not super active on twitter anymore but i’ll always be about to support louis even if it’s just a quick thing. I have a lot of other complicated feelings around it but this is already too much of a rant shskdj basically i’m here but i’m not here, idc about 1d anymore and i’m mostly here for my friends and louis tweets, and i’ll write fics if people continue to want them because i like writing!
