Outlining my Project Sekai fantasy au because I can :D I posted this on twitter already, but I figured I would put it on here as well. I hope y'all enjoy!!
(Credit where credit is due, this is all inspired by this twitter thread. definitely check out pale's thread!! It’s really good :D Also my original thread for this is here)
So real fast, the Vocaloids are definitely magical beyond what anyone else is in this world. It’s only hinted at bc I don’t know how I want to do it yet but!! They’ve definitely got something extra magic-y going on. Also I’ll make Evillious references but I have no clue how to even start deciphering that lore so uh, don’t look too much into them :p they’re just for fun.
First off, the three main kingdoms! Soral, Heyarin, and Deorid. Their royal families are the Tenmas, the Ootoris, and the Aoyagis respectively. Let’s start off with Soral and the Tenmas first!
Tsukasa is not the crown prince. He’s in the line of succession, but the crown prince is his cousin. (Though he would be a fantastic king, at least that’s what he insists) Tsukasa is a knight who wants to help people prosper and stay happy. Saki was always a frail child, but recently (with the help of a certain alchemist and witch) has regained her strength. Brought on by years of being cooped up in the castle, she is determined to travel the world with her childhood friends. Ichika, the daughter of her mothers handmaid, Shiho, daughter to another noble family, and Honami, daughter to the royal librarian. However, upon her recovery Saki learns that her friends have been torn between the three kingdoms. Ichika stayed in Solar, but the others…
Shiho became a knight and was sent on an assignment to Heyarin while Honami moved to Deorid to watch over one of her mother’s friend’s daughters. Determined to finally see her friends again, Ichika agrees to travel with Saki to see find them.
However Tsukasa is firmly against the idea. Saki just got better, what if she gets injured? Or worse, her illness came back. They buttheads for a while before suddenly Tsukasa joins a traveling theater troupe after a her parents receiving a message. Taking her chance, she and Ichika set out to find their friends. It’s easy enough to find Shiho, and she comes willingly enough, but getting to Honami is a different question. She’s inside Deorid’s capital city which has grown increasingly hostile to visitors and outsiders.
Luckily they meet the folk-hero...
Hatsune Miku!! A famous songstress who is also a rouge with insane combat abilities. She is also famous for her natural teal hair, a shade that hasn’t been seen in decades, since the war between Lucifenia and Elphegort long ago. Miku joins them and they eventually find Honami. It takes some convincing, and assurance from Kanade that she’s doing well now, but Honami agrees to come traveling with them. Honami swears that if Kanade ever needs her help, she will come ASAP, Kanade promises the same.
Using Shiho as a spring board, her family has extremely strong magical lineage. Her older sister using those talents to become a witch. However, she unfortunately had to leave her coven due to rumors and controversy with her sisters. (As in coven sisters, not anyone bio related). Enter Minori! A bright witch just starting out. She has yet to master a single spell. She can cast them, just not perfectly. Or always really well. (It’s a work in progress but she’s definitely improving!)
One day she stumbles upon a cottage in the woods. Living there is Rin, a witch of great power, and Haruka, her idol. Haruka was once apart of the Royal Coven, but left and decided to retire. Minori convinces Haruka to not give up her magic and to start practicing again. Along with Airi (a witch who always tried to make it to the Royal court but never did) and Shizuki, who’s looking for a new start. Together the four form a coven without a noble sponsoring them (remember that, it’s important I promise) and operate with Rin helping to guide them. Despite Rin being a good bit younger than the rest of MMJ. She’s an odd one, that’s for sure. Rin also has a habit of traveling between the kingdoms as a Phoenix, delivering messages and visiting friends. We’ll come back to that in a second.
For now I want to take a moment and focus on Heyarin and the Ootoris. Emu is far from being crown Princess. Her eldest brother is already king and has a fiancé, so the chances of an heir are high, leaving her waaay back in the line of succession. With her status as a spare fully secured, she decides it’s time to take her grandfathers old traveling stage out to the world again, and spread the joy she always felt from it. But she needs fellows performers, and none of the nobles from Heyarin seem interested…
Also, Heyarin is a seaside kingdom with a high mermaid population, one of which is Luka! She often came to the castle for balls and was actually a close family friend of the Ootoris, but spends most of her time at the seaside.
Now, we need to talk about Deorid. While the other two Kingdoms we’ve discussed welcome and embrace magic, Deorid shuns it. Magic users were seen as unholy and alchemists as devil worshipers. (Think BBC Merlin kinda?? If that makes sense??) (Quick aside, while magic is an innate ability, alchemy can be learned by anyone, though it is easiest for those with magic already). So when the Kamishiro’s noticed their son’s talent for alchemy, they thought it best to leave this kingdom. Nene’s parents sent her along with them, seeing it as the only chance for their daughter to escape.
Fun fact: Nene is half mermaid! (Though she is unaware of this fact.) Her mother is a mermaid and was cursed to be trapped in the capital city which is why she can’t leave.
After saying goodbye to Mizuki, their other friend, they leave for Soral. In Soral, Rui became a famous alchemist, even helping to cure a member of the royal family (with help from Rin). When Emu showed up at his door step, asking for his aid in performances, he readily agreed, eager to show off his tricks and spellls, and for Nene to share her enchanting voice with others once again. Tsukasa caught wind of their troupe and practically begged to join. Which was odd, the usually prideful knight had been glued to the castle since his younger sister had tried to leave and put her health in jeopardy again. When they asked, the reason was dire.
Toya Aoyagi, the Crown Prince of Deorid, was missing.
Now before you start getting worried, Toya is fine. To get there, we first have to talk about the Revolution. Deorid’s views on magic were,, not as popular as you would think to say the least. As more time went on, the kingdom became restless with the harsh rulers. Those who chose to take a stand often found themselves in an Inn inside the capital city run by local legend and military hero Ken. One day Kohane, a quiet peasant who kept her magic hidden under lock and key, stumbles across the Inn and meets An who is in the middle of practicing her own magic. Kohane freaks out and runs away, coming back the next day and asking is she can teach her.
After several weeks of training, Akito (An’s childhood friend, now royal knight assigned to Toya) shows up with none other than the crown prince Toya. Kohane freaks out since they caught them doing magic, but An say’s it’s chill. Toya is also magic!! It’s just being really good with lizards and making little light things though. He discovered it later in life and kept it hidden because being the crown prince wouldn’t make a difference, he would be executed like anyone else.
About a month later, there is an assassination attempt on Toya. Akito is there and protects him by unlocking his own magical powers (which he was unaware of before this point) and is thrown in jail for it. To stop his best friend from being executed, An and Kohane agree to help Toya smuggle Akito out of the city. When they reach the city boarder, they expect Toya to turn back, but he insists on coming with them. He is fully committed to overthrowing his father.
They make their way to an another Inn run by An’s aunt, Meiko, where they can set up their new base. An hasn’t seen Meiko in years, and is surprised to find that she’s adopted twins. Len and Rin. Rin had strong magic skills and left the kingdom a few years ago to go study in a Soral Coven, but she visits often and brings news and presents with her. Len also has magic like his twin, but it’s much weaker. He often ends up following Akito and Toya around, trying to learn from them. (Also I’m not sure when this happens but Toya absolutely gets a dragon, even if it’s a baby. The idea is just too cool)
Next up is N25 and Kaito real fast, so stick around for just a bit more. Then we can talk about how all these plots intersect! (This AU got out of hand fast)
(I’ve also read very little of the N25 main story so please be kind with this one, I’m still refining it lol)
Kaito is advisor to the king of Deorid. He did his best to always be there for Toya when he could, but was never allowed to get too close to the prince. He actually caught Akito trying to escape, but aided in it and eventually becomes an informant for the rebellion.
Ena is distressed by her brother’s disappearance (and sentence) but can’t let it visibly show much, what with being a noble and all. She is popular at parties and envied by the masses, being seen as basically the kingdoms Princess. She does art, but is not public about it for a couple of reasons. She is assignment a personal knight, Mizuki. However, Mizuki has a michecious streak and actually aids Ena in sneaking out more than anything. They argue a lot but are very close.
They tour the town late at night, finding it to be a refuge from the even increasing tension in the noble families, eventually running into two bards. One Ena recognizes swiftly, Mafuyu daughter of the Royal Doctor. The other is a peasant she has never seen before, but who seems to have some magical qualities if her voice is anything to go by (but what does Ena know) (Kanade is probably half-mermaid and similar to Nene, not entirely decided on that though so)
Kanade explains that she started performing on the streets late at night to try and bring hope back to those who had lost it. Mafuyu mentions that she joined because of similar reasons. It strikes a chord with both Ena and Mizuki who both beg to be allowed to be involved.
Now, the convergence. (If I ever have the time to turn this into a fic this would the final act :p)
VBS are leading a rather successful rebellion, but they’re close to being found. They need to make one final push and decide it’s time to call in all the ally’s they can.
Len, finally master his transformation spell, volunteers to go to the other countries for help, starting with Rin. Akito sends Ena a message, asking that if she does not help them, she get herself and her friends out of the city while they can. Things may not end well. Ena shows up at the Inn a week later with Mizuki and Mafuyu in tow, Kanade staying behind to start rallying the citizens and getting anyone who wants to leave out of the city while they still can. (Or maybe Mafuyu stays as well, not 100% sure)
Len arrives at Rin’s cottage and asks that she ask any covens possible that they aid the rebellion. Rin says that none of the covens would be able to, their sponsors preferring the covens to stay neutral in any political affairs…however she does know one coven that operates independently ;)
Len then goes to Heyarin and asks if they can lend any aid. WxS have made a stop in with Emu’s family at this time (along with Luka) and when hearing that Toya and Mizuki and involved, they all readily agree to lend whatever services they can. Ena also delivered Len a letter from Kanade for Honami, asking that she either return to help get people out of the city or to stay far away from the carnage. The entire group agrees to give any assistance possible and make their way to the Inn.
Then with everyone in one place (Kanade and maybe Mafuyu excluded) they devise their battle plans and have all the sibling reunions and what not. The rebellion goes well and,, yeah!! :D
There are a few ending threads like maybe some ships or like character arcs that would have to be wrapped up but that’s basically it. Toya is king or Deorid now as well :) Not super sure how to wrap this thread up, but let me know what you think!! Any extra ideas or comments are more than welcome

Thank you sm for the love 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
when I was part of the 1d fandom in 2012ish I wrote a tonnnn of fanfiction on my blog 😅 I had no business writing and reading so much filth
🕯️ ⇢ on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that?
oy vey. Honestly, id give it like a 6, it’s not terrible but rereading the same thing over and over again will make me crazy after awhile LMAO I do like it cause I’ll write a pretty basic outline of a scene out then go in and fill in where I can to add layers and texture!!
🥑 ⇢ you accidentally killed somebody, which mutual(s) do you text for help?
@chockholdsillegal not saying we’d be great at covering our tracks but this my homie right here (and your job might help us be able to get rid of evidence in a way other people don’t have access to 🤔)
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
forever and always will rec @heathermason6060 like holy shit their Matchmaker Merle pt 1??? Serial killer rick and daryl??? 🧑🍳💋
🌻 ⇢ tag someone you appreciate but don't talk to on a regular basis
@weirdoneattheparty your internet sleuthing is incredible and more people need to appreciate the work it takes for the shit you are able to dig up
🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both?
I like reader inserts ! Writing them and reading them personally! Like partially yes I am the character but also they are their own character at the same time w a totally different lore than me and putting myself in their shoes is just as fun. Like would I make all the decisions fmc would? No but im not about to complain about a character acting morally gray or making bad decisions cause if they didn’t there would literally be no plot lmao
🧃 ⇢ share some personal lore you never posted about before
speaking of lore hmm you want like normal? I own my own pet sitting business on the east coast in the US :) I’m also a surrogate baby and have a bunch of half sibs that I’m close with now as an adult!
🧸 ⇢ what's the fastest way to become your mutual?
slide into them DMs and let’s be friends OR if you reblog good stories or write interesting stuff! I also follow people who regularly comment on my writing cause I love you sm
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
here’s a screenshot of something I saved for Heart of Us inspo! I have a long note of drabbles of dialogue / scene ideas and screenshots of things I find so this one was from tik tok
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
god as cliche as it is I love a good and juicy love triangle. I also love when reader/fmc is able to handle herself and is tough as nails. I mean I’m literally writing the fanfic I want to see so idk what else but also I love @heathermason6060 because she writes an amazingly desperate and needy daryl so whenever I need a hit of that to my system I go to her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
honestly I love any and all comments when they’re kind! But esp when someone is like “holy shit” lmao or even just a really nice “can’t stop reading this” or “so glad I found this” I’m telling you comments make my day and make me want to keep writing!! I love any and all!! ❤️
🍦 ⇢ name three good things about a character you hate
ooof… well I’m gonna go with a character I hate at this exact moment in my rewatch which is Eugene. Let me complain then I’ll say something nice. EUGENE YOU WERE SO EASY TO MAKE THE FLIP TO NEGAN YOU ASSHOLE WTF. Ok nice things he’s v smart for someone who was a liar / fraud he still knows how to do SO MUCH !!! He also was v kind when he told negan’s wives he knew they were there not of their own volition and didn’t want to take advantage of them. I also understand why he flipped to negan so readily because they treated him so freaking well and he was always being ridiculed and told he wasn’t enough back w his old group!
🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?
Other than the obvious in watching the show, god I love music. Whenever I hear a good lyric I’m like oh shit I need to base an entire story around that or the feeling music will give I’m like this is how daryl would feel or fmc would feel when this and that happen!! Poetry is also a huge one, as seen above with my recent screenshot to my notes.
☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?
when I’ve been on tumblr before I knew short and sweet is usually best, and the fact twd fit so well into Daryl Dixon I said let’s try this lmao and it worked!! So now I am Daryl the walking Dixon lmao
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
this goes for books/novels as well. You need to show me how a character is feeling, show me the scenery, the atmosphere instead of TELLING me. My favorite example of this comes from Harry Potter which does way better to explain than I could writing out everything:
Instead of “Harry started crying”, in GOF it says “The thing against which [Harry] had been fighting on and off ever since he had come out of the maze was threatening to overpower him. He could feel a burning, prickling feeling in the inner corners of his eyes. He blinked and stared up at the ceiling.”
This goes for atmosphere/scenery too! What the heck are the smells! The sounds! What does it feel like!! So whenever fanfic or books do nothing to embellish any feelings I usually click out or DNF

Ik this isnt part of the ask game, but would you consider showing us how you outline in Trello?? It looks so freaking effective!
I have been waiting for someone to ask me this question. thank you so so so so much you’re going to regret asking lmao
so as I said before I use Trello - a free cloud based project management tool - to outline and write my fics (and also for my to do list and my Christmas present shopping and vacation planning and literally everything) because, to be 100% honest with you, I have no chill. I have never been relaxed about anything. ever. not a single day in my life. and therefore I marinate on fic ideas in my mind for months (sometimes years!) before I start doing anything with them. this is my process I use for everything I write and we’re using Mar[r]y Me as my example!
the first thing is the idea. I get an idea and I word vomit vibes into the closest thing (notes app, google doc, scribbling into my work notebook, texting a friend) and then I marinate on the idea. I first had the idea for Mar[r]y Me on January 25, 2023. it went through several iterations as I shaped what it was going to be and below is what I sent to Jordan in June 2023 and it’s the basis for the story we’ve all been following. (or mostly, it’s changed quite a bit since then.)
once I’m ready to start writing I create a board in Trello. think of a board like a white board, you then add “cards” which I think of as sticky notes except with a lot more features. also my process is the same no matter if it’s a one shot or a multi chapter fic, it just depends if it gets its own board or it goes into my one shot board. (which is filled with ideas waiting to be written lol) anyway. this is the Mar[r]y Me board!
for a multi chapter fic like this each chapter gets a card in the IN PROGRESS list (they move to the right as things get written/posted). each card follows a template: title, due date (loosely assigned to get an idea of what a posting schedule may look like), a label (always being with need to plan), and a checklist. also the chapter outline - obviously.
before I get into the outline, I use the labels as a nice visual representation of what the status of everything is. as the screenshot below shows, the each writing stage has its own color (and I use the color blind color schemes so I get the fun patterns too!) and it gets changed as we go along. it helps me know at a quick glance where everything is at the moment.
I also love the checklist feature, see below. which basically has all the steps I need to follow once I have a chapter written and ready for final editing. it may seem like overkill but I work long hours and you’d be amazed at how easily my brain forgets things lmao. so this ensures nothing is missed when I’m getting ready to post.
now onto the outline. my outline goes from something super basic, to a few bullet points, to an in depth summary of what’s going to be written. using chapter one as an example of this progression.
1. this is the og outline for the whole story. just a dream and a vibe and one sentence. literally.
2. the expanded outline for chapter one
3. just a small section of the final outline I used to write the chapter. a lot of my final outline ends up being actual sentences that I use in the final draft, I basically write the chapter in bullet points and unfinished sentences.
4. I use the very expanded outline to write the actual chapter. following along bullet point by bullet point. an example from chapter 9 since that’s what I’m writing rn.
5. once everything is written, all the bullet points have been used up or ignored, I transfer it into google docs and read it to myself, editing as I go. once I’m happy with my final rough draft I use grammarly to idiot check things because I’m an engineer not an English major. then I start using the checklist (teaser posting, creating tumblr post, etc.) and then the worst part. I walk around my home office and I read the entire chapter out loud to myself and make final edits as I go. is it excruciating to have to listen to myself speak the flirting I’ve just written out loud? yes. have I made myself cry multiple times? yes. do I find a lot of rough spots and smooth them out? yes. that’s usually done on Thursday nights.
6. from there it’s all final editing and formatting and scheduling the final post. I also have to create the accompanying recipe post for Mar[r]y Me so I do that too. and we post on Fridays! sometimes I share the google doc link with friends so they get an advanced copy of the chapter and sometimes they get to be surprised with everyone else (I’m running behind schedule and don’t have time to share it lmao)
it’s a lot of work for something I’m producing for free but I genuinely love it so much and it helps me keep everything straight. there would be so many lost ideas and abandoned thoughts if I didn’t do it this way. it’s crazy that this the first fic I’ve ever written and that I’ll probably be close to 90k words by the time it’s finished.
if you’ve made it this far thank you for indulging my very intense brain and it’s processes. I love the community we’ve created here on this blog and I’m so excited to keep writing and sharing. and I especially want to give a big thank you to my very good friends Ames, Alexa, and Jordan. Mar[r]y Me would not be the story it is without them and I can’t thank you enough for your love and encouragement during this story.
#asks answered#anon <3#I don’t know how to tag this#elle hyperfixates on something#<- yeah that’ll work

TAG GAME: FIC ROUNDUP
(not @sonicenvy tagging me in this because I'm a loser who shares all of my fic ideas with her at 2 in the morning 😭)
Anyway, the description: "new tag game i’m inventing for everyone and anyone who writes fanfic! Fic roundup!"
how many fic documents do you have/where do they live?
Somewhere around 30-35 that I'm willing to confess to; all of the others are either 'thing I wrote when I was 14,' 'here's a vague summary or idea of something I might want to write,' or single paragraph snippets that don't actually have a larger story attached to them.
MS Word: The vast majority
Google Drive: 2, and only one of them is an actual fic
Some vague ideas housed in my Android Notes app
a few that are still on notebook paper that I haven't transferred over to Word yet
what fandoms do you have fic for?
Several, and most of them are either unfinished or need major revamping. I've actually published fics for Nancy Drew, American Dragon: Jake Long, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Doctor Who, and Young Justice. All of those were written and published before I turned 16 and I largely no longer affiliate myself with them unless and until I do major revamps of them all.
For my WIPs....oh boy. Here's some of the notable ones actually worth talking about:
DCU: like.....10? Idk, It's a lot. Most notably, my active WIP that is 'Leave Me and Live' (aka, the "Jason and his mother figures fic"). I also have a "Tim is the glue that holds the Batfamily together" WIP, a couple of Dick-centric oneshots, a Cass-focused oneshot that's basically just me trying to build out her motivations for going to Hong Kong, and a Damian & Tim time travel fic on the backburner.
Star Wars: 4 or 5. Notably, I have my super expansive reworking of the sequel trilogy beginning with TLJ and a funny political drama oneshot (called 'Meanwhile in the Galactic Senate') about Padme and Bail trying to pass some legislation through the Senate.
Chronicles of Narnia: 3. I have a Susan character study oneshot, a Prince Caspian movieverse fic focused on why Susan the Gentle went on the Telmarine Castle Raid while Lucy the Valiant stayed behind, and a huge expansive book/movieverse AU where the Pevensies stay in Narnia at the end of Prince Caspian.
Miraculous Ladybug: 1. I have a Ladynoir 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' AU I've literally had a vague outline for since Season 1 was airing, way back in 2015.
Doctor Who: 1. I started a fic called 'The Never Weres' back when I was 15 and Series 5 was airing that was all about the hypothetical lives of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors' Companions in Amy's Starless World (aka, the Doctor-less alternate universe from The Pandorica Opens). Obviously, I never finished it, and probably never will.
Young Justice: A few, but only two worth mentioning. I have a nearly finished 5+1 from a decade ago about the Team grieving Artemis and a "how the Teen Titans Apprentice arc might have happened in the YJ universe" WIP.
Macgyver (2016): 2; an infirmary fic set after 'Wilderness+Training+Survival' and another set in a canon divergent S5 where Jack never left Phoenix to hunt down Kovac but Desi still joined, where Mac gets kidnapped (and not just beaten up) by Murdoc during 5x10 and the rest of the Team has to hunt him down.
ATLA/Legend of Korra: 4. My unfinished 'Justice for Asami Sato' fic haunts me, y'all, but at this point it's never getting finished unless I go back and rewatch LOK...unlikely.
Those are the ones I actually have something written for; if you want my ideas folder well...that's a lot longer and contains a lot more fandoms (ask me about my Fullmetal Alchemist or Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries fic ideas sometime, lmao). tldr: I write too much fic for too many things and I never finish or post anything.
how long is your longest unpublished wip?
Right now, I think that's my Jason-centric fic "Leave Me and Live," which is currently clocking in at ~5k words with the fic about a third of the way done (💀). Excluding that one, it's probably "Control" (otherwise known as the aforementioned "Justice for Asami Sato fic"), which is somewhere vaguely around halfway done at 3k.
Technically, it's "Those Left Behind," my Young Justice 5+1 fic focused on Artemis; it's 9k with most of the final chapter left to write. However, since it is 'published' in the sense that 5 of those chapters are up on FFN, I don't really count it here.
what fic types are most common in your wips?
AUs and canon revamps, character exploration pieces, time travel fics, and hurt/comfort, with a couple of political dramas thrown into the mix (because unfortunately my professional life does sometimes bleed into how I consume fiction, and fictional politics both interests and bothers me immensely to the point of needing to write about it).
do you have any ongoing ‘verses/series in your wips, if so, what are they?
Oh yeah, I have two that I can think of off the top of my head:
My Star Wars TLJ/sequel trilogy reworking is tenatively a series of 3 fics: two long ones, covering the events of TLJ and my verse's equivalent of TROS, and a oneshot epilogue fic set about 5 years later.
My "Pevensies stay in Narnia at the end of PC" fic, which at the time I initially outlined it was (very ambitiously) four fics, each one loosely focused on chronicling 1-3 years that the Pevensies+Caspian spent ruling, with Fic 1 covering their first two years, Fic 2 covering Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Fic 3 covering their fourth and fifth years in Narnia, with Fic 4 set a few years later and covering a modified version of The Silver Chair.
Theoretically I have more (there's a connected set of Batfamiily oneshots I've been vaguely thinking about), but none of them are actually formed or planned-out yet.
long or short fic?
both. both is good.
tagging @silverwhittlingknife, @bitimdrake, @diocletianscabbagefarm, @loracarol, @river-bottom-nightmare, @mollyhats, @titans-trash, and anyone else who wants to participate!

Okay i actually have no clue on how tumblr works (hope I'm doing this right lmao) but I'm writing my first fic (I still can't really move on from orv so I decided to make my own content lol.), I really love your writing style, do you have any tips??
Hmmmm tips tips tips tips.... First of all I’m really flattered that you like my writing enough to ask me about it! I’ll try to give my best answer... I think that I used to read a lot of people’s “writing tips” but ultimately I ended up not really understanding them until I started writing a lot? Either way it’s fun to read how other authors think... It’s really cool that you’re writing your first fic and you thought to come to me... did I already say that? Okay long post under the cut.
I don’t think this will be all that helpful, but this is just things that I think about if that’s interesting!
For me a lot of writing is like struggling with motivation (I have ADHD so that’s probs why), I really have to pace myself while writing because I can’t just force myself to do it. If I go in every day and think “I have to write today I’m not doing anything so I should be writing” I can get burnt out really easily, even if I really like the thing I’m writing and know how it’s supposed to go. So one of my big things is that when I’m not thinking about writing I’m not thinking about writing. that gives my brain a break and refreshes me when I get back to my google document.
Something I’ve also struggled with having to remember is that there’s like. Never a perfect way to write. What I end up doing is thinking up ideas and fragments and sentences in my head and the very moment I think of something I like I have to write it down in my notes app. Most of my writing process ends up being like. Filling in the blanks and connecting the dots between scene fragments.
For fics in particular I’d also just recommend rereading your favorite parts of the og work! I’m the kind of person who has a pretty good reading memory, so people may have noticed that I include a lot of little details referencing the text in my fic. Just reading the work kind of helps you remember the voices of the character and the style of the narration, and if you just like. internalize it. you can probably replicate it pretty well if you wanted to.
OKAY I say that but don’t worry too much about replicating things in the og work perfectly. I find that a lot of times when I’m writing I’m inserting a lot of personal touches and putting things that are a part of me in the work. Writing is always going to be like. an extension of your voice, no matter what you’re writing. I think that when I heard about stuff like that from authors in the past I was always like. What? I’m not writing about things that happened to me. I’m writing about grown adult men having emotional issues, silly. But there’s like a lot more nuance to writing about yourself, I guess. Like you don’t have to have like a self insert or be projecting onto a character to have yourself reflected in something you’ve written.
I’d say that like, whatever you write as your first fic is going to be lovely, but when you grow up as a writer and look back on it, you’re not going to remember who you were when you wrote it. I think that’s why a lot of people look back on their first works and are like “I can’t believe I wrote that, what was I thinking, cringe cringe cringe ugh.” Like I definitely do that sometimes, but I’ve found that the old work I’m happiest with nowadays is the stuff where I can recognize myself in it, even if I’m not in that fandom anymore or if there’s old jokes or typos I don’t remember making.
With that being said, I’m the kind of person who always gives myself a mission statement when I’m writing. I sort of mentally go, okay, I’m writing this kind of thing, and this is why I’m writing it. It can be something like oh I’m writing this fluff piece because I love this character and wish they had a happier ending, or oh I want to write this multi chapter fic exploring an issue touched on in the original work but I feel like with my own experiences I could expand on it more than the author did. Just something that tells me why it is important to me to write this thing when I’m writing it.
AAAH I feel like I made that sound more dramatic than it really is, that’s just how I think I guess. I’m the kind of guy where its like things need to have like MEANING to me when I do them. I’m dramatic and gay and that’s my personality I guess 😔.
Hmmm maybe it’s also my BIGGEST writing tip tho. Like kind of just thinking things through when you’re writing is pretty important. When I was first learning to write at all (talking about baby baby me here this is like sort of a side tangent sorry) I think that a lot of times I would copy phrases and developments that I had liked in things that I had read without really fully considering why I would include those things other than the fact that that was just what I thought writing was. It’s important to consider what importance every scene and sentence has to do with the flow of the story. Are they just things that are happening, or is there a reason that the audience needs to know these things? The weight of your words should have some sort of consequence as a result of you writing them. Are you telling the audience information they need to know? Is it about how the character feels? What does this say about the character? Etc.
I suppose that’s sort of my own writing style. You’ll probably notice that I don’t write a lot of descriptive prose if you read my fic. The thing about me is that I never want to write something that makes my audience question why they’re reading it, I guess. I’m sort of self conscious and think about the reading experience a lot. All of the things I choose to describe are usually so that the reader can understand where people are in the scene and what emotions they are having. There’s a lot of emphasis that I put in like. A reader’s ability to read into things, which works against me sometimes because I’m not always certain if people picked up on different things that I put a lot of thought into (the curse of being seen... sob).
ALSO use paragraph breaks. In my first fic (that I’m not going to tell anyone what is even though its on ao3 because im shy) the thing I always regret the MOST is that there are big chunky paragraphs that are hard to read through at the start. Like my eyes get lost. I mentioned I have ADHD before but even though I like. physically can’t read a big chunky paragraph I will always write them that way if left to my own devices. Paragraph breaks don’t have to just be broken up by dialogue they can be wherever you feel like doing them. You need a lot of them. This post should probably have more of them... oh my god it’s so long...
OKAY FOR REAL THOUGH IF YOU COULDN”T SLOG THROUGHT THE REST OF THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP IS RIGHT HERE:
JUST LET YOURSELF WRITE
I have a lot of like. academic trauma, so maybe this is just me, but the reason I didn’t write fic until I was like 16 was because I was always really scared that whatever I wrote wouldn’t be good enough for some impossible standard I was setting for myself. I was always telling myself that I had certain bad writing habits or that I was terrible for never being able to focus on things for very long and all of my projects were doomed to failure before I even started. But then I wrote my first like 8 chapter fic in the summer of my junior year and I was like... oh. that wasn’t so bad. Like. It’s okay to know your limits, but you don’t really know them until you start writing. Like I wrote an 8 chapter fic, and then a few one shots, and then I tried to take on a very complicated project that ended up being over 40 chapters and I had to put it down because I just wasn’t really at the writing level to finish it. I would advise against writing fics that take so long to write that you start hating the way you wrote the first chapter, basically lol. Know how whatever you’re writing is supposed to begin and end before you start writing it.
Nowadays I always have like. plot outlines in my head when I start a fic. Like okay this needs to happen here this needs to happen here etc. I like making lists if it seems to overwhelming when I’m writing something long, just to organize my thoughts.
OKAY I JUST TALKED A LOT. SORRY IF YOU DIDN’T WANT TO READ ALL OF THIS BUT I’M A LITTLE CHATTY IF YOU DIDN’T NOTICE.
Defo feel free to dm me if you have like questions or just want to chat about orv or whatever. I’m a lonely little man out here floating on my pile of words, and I’d love to hear what your fic is about!!

Author Interview
I was tagged by @ladyalice101. Thank you!!
Note: I made pages for my fanfics and my picspam edits! Feel free to check them out. (If you’re using the mobile app, my older fanfics may look wonky; I guess it has to do with the fact I copied and pasted it instead of typing it out on here.)
Name: Sunny
Fandoms: way too many lol, but the fandoms I write for now/will most likely write for are GoT/Jonsa (my main fandom), ouat/Captain Swan, MCU/Sifki, and Riverdale/Bughead
Where You Post: AO3, tumblr, and previously on ff.net.
Most Popular One-Shot: On ao3, it’s Utter My Love. On tumblr, it’s An Embarrassing Promposal.
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: I haven’t posted a multi-chapter story...yet.
Favorite Story You Wrote: I really enjoyed writing An Embarrassing Promposal
Story You Were Nervous to Post: There is a fic I’m totally nervous about writing because it’ll be a massive undertaking; the timeline (not even a chapter by chapter outline) I have of it is way over 10 pages long, and it’s not even complete. (It’s a whole canon divergent Robert’s Rebellion never happened because long story short, Aerys arranged a marriage between Lyanna and Rhaegar AU). So far the timeline covers 2 potential fics, but I had a plot bunny for a vague third story, and *Tina Belcher groan*.
How You Choose Your Titles: I’ve been mostly lucky with finding song lyrics or titles that fit, but for other fics it’s a throwing a dart and seeing where it lands type of deal.
Do You Outline: For one shots, no. For multi-chapters, yes.
Complete: 11
In Progress: Ummm 5, I think? There are 3 drabble prompts left for my follower celebration (but I’ve only started writing for 1 so far...it’s slow going, but I’m getting there). I’ve written a little bit of a modern royals AU, but when I hit a road block of the setup I needed to write I outlined it...then promptly forgot about it *facepalm*. Same thing for my jealous Jon fic. Then there’s snippets of fics in other fandoms I’ve written.
Coming Soon/Not Yet Started: Ha. Hahaha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Well, first of all, see above. And like...all my fics (except for a rare few) basically exist in my head, because I’m too lazy to write anything down lmao. But here’s a list of stuff that will come...eventually.
Sansa and the Wolf - canon divergent AU, fairy tale AU. Based on the Grimm brothers fairy tale Lily and the Lion. I’ve basically been wanting to do this since I joined the jonsa fandom in 2015. My initial idea for it was just going to be a rehashing of the fairy tale’s plot, but then certain...things happened in seasons 6 and 7 that made me go, “You know, I can use this for my story!” So yeah, there’s one instance where I’m glad I procrastinated lol.
Time Travel AU - basically, shit went down during the Battle for the Dawn, the good guys were losing, and Bran uses his 3ER powers to send him, Sansa, and Jon back..back in time. (Remember when Sansa said, “Don’t you wish we could go back to the day we left?” ?!?! Yeah, me too! Hint hint, nudge nudge!) Featuring: tired Ned, suspicious Catelyn, angry and protective Arya, and confused Robb.
Something for Halloween that @themiddleliddle will love me for lol
Another Halloween-ish thing that I’ll be collaborating on with @missfaber! (But not this Halloween.)
The Compass, The Curse, The Crown - not Jonsa, but Captain Swan! Basically, this is a trilogy that’s start off as a No Curse Lieutenant Duckling AU, then eventually ties into certain plot elements from the show. I stupidly wrote the outline of these on my old phone and did not write a copy of them on my computer. (But it’s not lost or anything; I just have to charge my old phone up and retype the outline out on my computer like I should’ve done before lol.)
Do You Accept Prompts: Yes! It’s e x t r e m e l y slow going sometimes, but I will fill them out!
Upcoming Story You Are Most Excited to Write: Sansa and the Wolf, hands down! I’ve already made an edit for it, but I’m waiting to post it when I’m close to posting the fic itself.
Tagging: @blackholeofprocrastination, @peglegsjones, @snowsinthenorth, and anyone else who wants to do this!
