Tombaby Fashion!
Heavily, heavily influenced by Korean street fashion and the Japanese kawaii aesthetic, Tombaby is a marriage of sweet and boyish.
The term was taken from a preset outfit in Sims 4, but it solidified a look I’ve been seeing and building from for a while. This is a lighthearted, fresh look that puts comfort at the forefront.
Outfits build off of oversized denim pants, shorts or overalls, paired with relaxed fit ringer and raglan tees. Often, these tops have colorful stripes, plaid, gingham, or cute fruit embroidery. During colder months, long sleeve tops can be layered under tees. Cozy hoodies, sweatshirts, and denim jackets regularly feature in this look. Plaid button downs are often worn like cardigans, 90s grunge style.
Skirts are less common, but when they’re used, they’re usually a slim denim skirt or a schoolgirl style pleated skirt.
The Tombaby prioritizes comfort, so she’s often wearing a casual sneaker. They’re almost always pastel or otherwise bright, multicolored sneakers with a white base. A wedge or platform is always cool, and surprisingly comfortable.
Accessories are minimal. Thigh high or knee socks go with shorts as well as skirts. Lace or ruffles on short socks are a welcome part of the sweet side. She doesn’t complicate her hairstyle, often wearing it in ponytails or braids tied with bows, and topping it off with a beanie or baseball cap. She usually carries her things in a backpack or messenger bag.
Common colors are pastels (especially baby blue, mint, and lavender), white; bright colors like peacock blue/teal and grass green. There’s very little pattern mixing. If there is a second pattern, it’s almost always in the socks.
This is a great look for those who enjoy kawaii pastel fashion, but maybe aren’t so comfortable with the extremes that the looks often go to. It’s an easy, fussless style that brightens the mood of everyone who sees it.

gif tutorial
alright so i was asked for a tutorial on how i make my gifs, so here it is!! this one will focus mostly on how i make my live game gifs for baseball or hockey. as far as what i use, i use either obs studio or the xbox screenrecord function on my laptop for recording game clips. then i use photoshop, currently ps cc 2017, to actually make my gifs.
how i made this gif from this gifset. this will be split into parts to make it easier if you only want to know about certain elements of the process!
screen recording:
i’m going to focus on obs studio, as it’s what i use more often, and as far as i know, anyone can download it, but i have no idea what’s up with the xbox software i use, lmao.
this is what it looks like when i open it. currently, i use the display capture setting as my source, and i will show you how to add that, along with some other settings i use and shortcuts.
alright so at the bottom of the window, there’s the source panel, it looks like this:
i already have a source added, the display capture. this means that it will record whatever i’m displaying on my screen currently, which is how i like it, as it makes it easy to know what i’m recording. i’ve never messed around with it much, to see what the other options do, because i’m lazy and this does what i need.
to add the source, click on the little plus icon at the bottom of the sources panel. a menu will pop up, and you can select any capture option, and as you can see above, i use display capture.
moving to the right, there’s the audio panel:
my personal preference is to keep the desktop audio on, and turn the mic/aux audio off. this way if i need the clip later, especially if it’s a video of something especially cute or whatever, i’ll have it and be able to use it. if you have the mic/aux on, it will record whatever sounds you’re making on top of the desktop audio, leading to weird noises mixed in with the video audio.
and finally, moving to the right again, there’s the controls panel:
this is pretty self explanatory, here is where you can start/stop a recording, access the settings, or exit the program. i don’t use these start/stop buttons, but that’s because of a shortcut i will show in a second.
this is pretty much everything i deal with on the main page. there’s a ton of other options/information/things, but i haven’t messed around with them too much, so i’m not sure what a lot of them do.
next i’ll show the setting i change/use. this is what the setting page looks like when you open it using the button on the control panel:
now i ignore most of the tabs on the left, because i’m only using obs for screenrecording, and not for livestreaming. i do change things under ‘output’ and ‘hotkeys’.
output:
here i’ve changed the recording path to go to a specific folder rather than the general one it will send it to. during the hockey season, when i’m possibly making gifs for 3 games at a time i change that folder to one for whatever the date is. during baseball season, i’m less likely to be doing as much so i put it in a general folder that i sort out later.
i don’t remember what the automatic settings are for recording format, but i believe i had to change it to mp4, which is what i need/use for my method of making gifs.
hotkeys:
this is just a little short cut, but i added these hotkeys so i can start and stop recordings without needing to flip to the software, as long as it’s going in the background. i chose this key because it’s one i don’t need in my everyday life, thus minimizing the risk that i’ll ever accidentally record anything i don’t need, which isn’t a big deal, but can be annoying.
advanced:
this isn’t really a setting change, but this is how i have my filenames formatted, at least until i manually change this if i want to, but i believe its the default and it’s honestly really helpful to keep the videos straight when you’re a disorganized mess like me.
i think that’s everything for the screenrecording part of the process. if you have any questions, just ask!
photoshop:
alright so i use the import frames to layers method to make gifs, it’s just how i learned initially, so i’m pretty stuck in my ways.
opening ps:
this is what my screen looks like when i open photoshop. i have mine set to the lighter setting bc i like how it looks brighter, but its just a personal preference.
importing clips:
select import and then video frames to layers. it will open your files.
selecting video:
alright, so you can see the mess of videos i have, unsorted right now, lmao. anyway navigate to and select the video you want, and hit open.
selecting frames:
this window will pop up after it loads, and here is where you select the frames you want to include in the gif. in order to do so, you slide the two sliders to frame either side of the clip. as far as the limit to every ___ frames, i try to not use it, or i use every 2 frames, just depending on the clip.
now i have the clip i want, so i hit ok, and let ps do its thing.
process:
alright so after the frames are loaded, there’s multiple things i do to prepare my gifs. i have to crop them, remove extra frames (delete with the little trash can at the bottom left), change the time delay, and then do the actual editing of the gif. also, i use the motion preset layout, which can be found on the drop down menu in the top right corner.
cropping:
these are the dimensions i use for most of my gifs. i range between 250-300 depending on the video, but 540 is almost always there, due to tumblr’s dimensions for photos/gifs. 268 x 268 is what i use for square gifs.
the cropping button is found on the left side menu, and it looks like that little symbol on the far left of the picture above.
once i have the area i want selected, i doubleclick and it crops the frames.
time delay:
to change the time delay, click the little symbol you can kind of see in the photo above, with the four or so lines. it’s above the frames along the bottom of the screen, at the right. when the menu pops up, click select all frames, so you can change the timing for all the frames. once all the frames are selected, click one of the little carrots next to the numbers at the bottom of the frames, as seen in the picture below.
now you choose the time delay you want. when im not skipping any frames, i run between 0.05 to 0.06. if i am skipping, it’s between 0.08 to 0.1. just kind of play with it, til you find what works for you.
editing:
i always sharpen my gifs, it’s the best way to make your gifs look as nice as possible. to do so i use a sharpening action, found here. there is also a tutorial here for loading and using the action, which is much better than anything i could say, so use that!! i literally ALWAYS use this action/method, i love it so much. also, that blog is a goldmine for gif/edit help.
coloring:
alright, honestly im not going to be any help here, im so bad at coloring. at this point i have the same kind of things i do depending on where the game im makes gifs for is, since 81 and 41 games(ish) are in the same place for my teams during their seasons and then i just kind of make it up as i go. for actual help, i recommend the blog w the tutorial from above, just looking around there, or messing around in photoshop itself.
exporting:
follow these steps to save for tumblr. once the window opens and is ready, change the width to 540 for the best results for tumblr.
make sure the gif is under 3mb, otherwise tumblr won’t play it and it will look like a photo. then just post! and be happy!! send any questions my way, always happy to help :-)
#here it is!#its so long dksfjsdkljf#hope it helps!#im always here to answer questions too!!#danhalen#tutorials#a

he was the art
@beggingforfics or hannah or bby depending on the time of day gave me this prompt (well this picture) so here is the story of delia and harry.
i’m posting this to make her feel guilty. just a psa.
Delia happened upon him in the middle of the art shop, her basket heavy from paints that her roommate insisted she pick up because it was perfect for the project he was assigned. She hoped she was reading his handwriting correctly, grabbing the right numbers and the correct brushes, but he had a doctor’s handwriting and all of it merged together into a bunch of random words that made no sense to her.
She tried her best not to make it known that she was watching the boy from her tile at the end of the aisle, acting like she was filtering through the brushes.
Delia must have made a strange noise, something not uncharacteristic of her; maybe a small snort when she noticed him giggle at the name of a paint color, or the loud cracking sound of her wrist that sent relief through her entire system, because he looked at her. It was just for a moment, but she was able to see it clearly through her glasses, though he was blurry again when her glasses fell down her nose, taking her foundation with them.
She waited for him to look again, surveying his severely patterned shirt that made her head hurt during the few seconds it took for him to look back at her and down to her basket.
He asked if she was painting a mural, that’s a lot of paint if it’s only canvas, he told her, coming forward with his own basket filled with charcoal and oil paint.
Delia had no idea what her roommate was painting, only that he came out of his room with paint on his toes, each singular toe a different color, and paint on his elbows, and streaks in his hair. It’s for the art. He reminded her of that constantly, but she thought he was going a little crazy for the art.
She didn’t know why she showed him the list, though he was no longer a he, he was Harry. Harry took one look at the list and gave it back to her, instead asking her what her roommate was painting. He listened to her intently as she tried to explain that she was absolutely fucking clueless when it came to art, she just knew that her roommate wore paint on his body and came out of his room at weird hours of the day asking if he had paint on his left arse cheek.
But Harry listened, before finally taking charge and demanding her phone, saying nothing about the holographic case as he typed out a message to her roommate letting him know that Delia was completely clueless and that he was willing to help her find the right assortment of supplies to get the job done.
As soon as he got a response he looked up at Delia, remind me to never trust you to get my art supplies, he told her before taking the basket for himself, returning multiple things back to their respected areas.
During the hour she learned that her roommate had specifically asked for clay, no he didn’t she told Harry time and time again, pushing her glasses up every thirty seconds. She learned that Harry wasn’t in university, but he was constantly being asked to paint murals for schools, and he learned that she hated math but for some reason was majoring in physics, and that her hair had definitely been every color of the rainbow, not just the lilac color it was at that moment.
She wasn’t quite sure how she ended up picnicking with him on a random blanket he had in his car, near some children’s public playground with overpriced sandwiches and sub-par strawberry lemonade; the bags full of art supplies resting in his backseat along with her jacket. It’s too nice out here for you to be wearing sleeves. She wanted to protest that it was freezing, and she would wear sleeves if she wanted, but as soon as he passed her the cardigan with his name etched into the left side, she went quiet.
Talking to him was easy, hearing him speak about how he crafted ideas in this tiny pink sketch book that his sister had gifted him in one of his stockings during Christmas, and how he always tried to get art teachers to let him be a guest teacher for the day, or have some of the kids help him paint. I teach art classes at the children’s hospital every week.
At that sentence, she knew she was hooked, even though his lips were a bit too pink, and his dimples a bit too perfect. She could see past those perfections.
Harry had insisted on driving her back, taking directions while she bopped her head to the early 2000′s pop station that he had secretly had preset on his radio since he got the car. The drive was longer than anticipated thanks to a minor misdirection; ‘you said go right’. ‘No, I said take the next right, that doesn’t mean the right that’s right there’. ‘What’ ‘what?’ They laughed after that, Delia attempting to pull up her maps app and finding her way back to the complex where she lived.
It took forty-five minutes to get there, forty-five minutes of explaining why she had the color lilac, or why he decided to get a giant moth on his stomach when he was sober.
Delia was sad when they arrived at her complex, Harry pulling off into the parking area and asking if she needed help getting her stuff up to her room, and she told him no. She shouldn’t have told him no, not that it mattered. She still told him how much fun she had, how her afternoon had become one for the ages and how maybe artists aren’t so bad after all. She kissed him too.
She leaned over the center console and planted one on him, her hand finding the back of his neck and thumb finding his jawline.
He kissed her back.
The car moved forward and they both jolted away from one another at the movement of the car. You’re not in park! She tried to hide her laughter but it was difficult.
He slotted the car into park and kissed her again, learning her like he learned a sketch, fingers creating divots in her hips and marks against her neck.
They were interrupted by her roommate, a baseball cap on his head and her purple and blue striped robe, a pair of slippers on his feet and single hairs on his legs painted different shades of green. He questioned where his canvases and charcoal were. Delia nearly punched him in the face, but Harry gave up his own canvas and charcoal. I’ll do something with the clay, I’m sure, and you can come shopping with me. Another day with Harry. That sounded like a dream.
He smiled at her holographic phone case and left her with a kiss on the cheek and his number with the paintbrush emoji.
The first time he referred to her as his girlfriend was when they were alone, his tea brewing and brownies baking as he painted mountains on her back, making sure to switch up the brush with his lips every few minutes. Why mountains.
Because my girlfriend chose to go into a field where she has to climb mountains, and I firmly believe she can do it.
He hadn’t said anything after that, taking no notice that she was smiling like a fool into the palm of her hand and that she was itching to flip around and mess up his painting just so she could kiss him silly.
The first I love you came when he showed up after her last final of the semester, his arms already open for her and a reassuring breakfast burrito in the passenger’s seat of his car, the Taco Bell label making her feel at ease immediately. The words slipped out, I love you. And Harry gave her cheek a small nudge and asked are you saying that to me or the burrito. She had to think for two minutes before she responded that it was him she was talking about.
She doesn’t like to think about their first fight, about how he slammed the door of her flat and ran off to his home town for nearly a week because he was so angry. It was her fault after all, the misunderstood text messages about how her mother felt like Harry was doing nothing; nothing but remaining stagnant, but it wasn’t true. It wasn’t true in the least, but she hadn’t defended him, hadn’t defended everything he brought to the table.
That weekend she found herself in his home town, getting lost three different times because she hated driving and hated everything about travelling by herself. But she showed up on his doorstep, or at least what the nice ladies at the bakery said was his doorstep, with the little pink sketch book he left at her flat, the same sketch book that she had to save from her prying roommate who had wanted the clay after all. She made him go to the shop on his own.
Shockingly, Harry had been relieved to see her. He didn’t want to lose Delia over a minor misunderstanding and parents who didn’t see how much she loved him. He didn’t want to lose her over pointless text messages and wrong paint colors.
The time she realized that he had forever created himself a home in her heart, they were surrounded by colors. Colors she’d never seen before, but none of the colors could compare to the color of Harry’s smile when he saw the gallery. He was unlike any other color, couldn’t be made in the depths of paint dying, or in the color wheel of Photoshop, it was a color only he could wear.
He was lost in the painting, his thumb and forefinger pulling at his already pink lips, eyes focusing in on each specific detail and Delia could only focus on him.
She took a picture, trying to keep it aesthetically pleasing for her already aesthetic instagram, but she mostly wanted to capture the essence of the painting as well as the over powering simplistic beauty of her boyfriend of 18 months.
He turned around again, just like all those months ago, and she snapped photos even though her glasses fell down her face and took her foundation with her.
What are you doing? He asked her, stealing her holographic case covered phone, staring at the two photos, him with his back to her and the other of when he caught her, hearing the shutter of her camera.
Taking photos of the art. She had told him honestly, grinning into his shoulder as he pulled her into him.
The art, or me? He spoke into her lilac hair, lips ever so slightly brushing against her forehead.
Delia pulled back, her grin wide as she stared up at him. What’s the difference?

What is Shutter Speed?
Shutter speed controls the amount of time that your film or digital sensor is exposed to light. This is one of the three basic controls of the camera that you will get to know and use like it is second nature for you. The other two are Aperture and ISO (aka film speed). These three elements together work to control the exposure of your photograph.
This article will explain what shutter speed is and teach you how to decide which shutter speed to use and when.
What is a shutter?
A film camera uses a small pieces of plastic or a "curtain" that opens and closes to allow light onto the film to prevent light from reaching it when you are not taking a photograph.
Digital cameras work in a similar fashion with some differences based on the type of camera you are using. Most DSLR cameras have a mirror that will "flip" to expose the light from your lens on to a sensor that captures and stores the information much like how film would.
This "shutter" is opened when you click or press the "shutter release" button on your camera to take a picture. The "shutter speed" determines how long the shutter remains open.
Understanding Shutter Speed
Shutter speed is relatively simple and is generally measured in fractions of a second.
A shutter speed of "100" means the shutter will open for 1/100th of a second.
A shutter speed of 1 second or longer is generally marked with an apastrophe ( ' ), quote ( " ) or a similar mark after the number. So if you see 3" on your camera, this means that your shutter will remain open for three seconds and will capture any and all light that enters the sensor.
The letter "B" is often used to indicate the 'BULB' setting. This means that the shutter will remain open for as long as you are physically holding down the shutter release button.
A slower shutter speed (open for longer periods of time) will create a brighter image as opposed to a faster shutter speed (open for shorter periods of time). A fast shutter speed is generally used to capture motion without blur, but your tradeoff is the amount of light that is allowed in to your sensor for that moment.
Slow Shutter Speeds
Shutter speed is considered to be "slow" when it is slower than 1/60th of a second. (Remember this is displayed as 60 on your camera or digital display).
This number comes from the fact that most people can only hold a standard lens steady for 1/60th of a second or less and will likely reduce or eliminate blur from handheld camera shake.
If a hand-held photo is taken at an exposure of 1/60 (such as 1/30 or 1/10), then you will have a high chance of camera shake and the image will look blurry.
This is different from the commonly used term "long exposure" which is when shutter speeds are over 1 second long and mostly used to capture photos at night.
Fast Shutter Speeds
Fast shutter speeds are considered to be those faster than 1/500th of a second.
These shutter speeds are used to freeze or stop motion on a moving subject to photograph a clear image without blur.
Hand-Holding Pro Tip
Taking photos without a tripod is very convenient, and we call this "hand-held" photography. One important tip that most pros know about is the "reciprocal rule" based on the length of your lens and the shutter speed.
If you have a longer lens that you are using hand-held, for example a 200mm, that does not have image stabilization (VR, OS, IS, etc.) then you would want to use a shutter speed of 1/200th of a second and faster.
Note that the minimum hand-held shutter speed is not recommended below 1/60th of a second unless you have some level of image stabilization from your camera or lens but this is generally a good rule to follow once you understand how to expose your image properly which we will talk about in a future article.
How to Set the Shutter Speed
After you have a basic understanding of what the shutter speed is and how to measure it, you need to learn how to set it. Each camera has its slight variations but this will give you a fundamental knowledge base to work from and make decisions based off of.
As a common step for new photographers, learning how to set your shutter speed is actually very simple. Most cameras let you simply turn a dial to change your shutter speed.
In older manual-only cameras, this dial is on top of the camera body that is marked with numbers ranging from 1 to around 5000 (give or take 1000 or so).
I newer digital cameras, the shutter speed is displayed on the LCD screen while the photographer turns a setting dial that can be near the shutter release button.
The exact location of the setting dial will vary from one camera to the next. Many manufacturers keep a similar feel to their different models, but if you change from a Nikon to a Canon it will feel different in your hand.
Point and shoot cameras may not have a control to specifically select the shutter speed, and in this case you may benefit more from understanding your cameras pre-programmed modes to make it select your desired shutter speed.
How Advanced Modes use Shutter Speed
Pre-programmed camera modes are convenient, but shutter speed is important to adjust for many reasons and even in the advanced camera modes as well. These are primarily available on SLR and DSLR cameras.
Program Mode
This is my favorite "Advanced Auto" camera mode. The Program mode is marked by a "P" on cameras that have this option, and it allows your camera to respond to preset conditions that you can program through menus.
This mode will allow you to set either shutter speed or the aperture while the camera adjusts the other settings to maintain a proper exposure.
Closest mode to "Fully Auto" while still allowing you to dynamically adjust the camera settings you want without worrying about all of the settings manually yourself.
Shutter Priority Mode
The Shutter Priority mode can be marked with a "Tv" on your setting dial. This means that isyou use the Tv mode and choose a shutter speed, then your camera will adjust your other settings (aperture, ISO) to maintain the correct exposure.
Use this setting when you know the shutter speed you want to use but are not concerned with the aperture or ISO (if you have auto-ISO turned on).
Conversely, Aperture Priority Mode (marked with "Av") will allow you to choose the aperture and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed and ISO (again - this is only if you have auto-ISO turned on).
Manual Mode
I shoot only in manual mode and on rare occasion I may jump to Program mode. The manual setting is marked "M" on most cameras. Manual mode means you are fully responsible for all three main settings in your camera.
If you set the shutter speed while in M mode, you will need to make an adjustment to the aperture and ISO in order to maintain a proper exposure.
Use your camera's light meter to ensure that you have a correctly exposed image.
Guide to Using Shutter Speeds
As you learn more about photography, this knowledge will become second nature. This is especially true if you experiment and the more often you do the more natural it will become. Here are a few guidelines that will help you start learning how to use different shutter speeds:
Stopping Motion - No Blur
The speeds listed here are the shutter speeds you may want to use to freeze action under normal conditions. This means that your ISO setting is set as low as possible (unless you understand how to adjust this) and your aperture is set in a way that you will have your subject correctly in-focus and allow enough light into the sensor.
If you want to blur the action, decrease the shutter speed (longer time shutter is open).
To adjust for a very fast situation, increase shutter speed (shorter time shutter is open).
Flipping a shutter really fast to stop motion is a lot of fun but this works best when there is a lot of light available, or in more advanced situations with flash if the sync rate is high enough. But light is the key to understanding how to use shutter speed and while these guidelines work best when there is plenty of light available. You will learn more how to use this setting the more you experiment and these are only a guideline that may change under low-light or flash situations for example.

It’s been over a month since I witnessed a legendary baseball game (Royals vs. Toronto, but sorry TO…I’m a loyal Royals fan) at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. I’m finally getting around to rifling through countless photos and places that I’ve visited so far on my travels this summer, and think it’s best if I just start recounting this entire adventure from the very beginning.
At the end of June 2017, I went to Kansas City for a baseball game, but we spent a lot of our time hanging around the Country Club Plaza, where our hotel was. To Canadians who may have not been to a place like this because of our six freaking month long winters, this plaza is like a giant outdoor mall the size of a small town. Think Shops at Don Mills, only bigger and better.
Here’s a breakdown of the trip, including all of the outfits I wore and favourite places I went:

T.Loft
Amidst all the BBQ that Kansas City is famous for (other than fountains?), T.Loft is one of the few healthy eating spots within the country club plaza. Their menu is extensive and absolutely delicious! Check out their website here.
Kaldi’s Coffee
Coffee culture is slowly but surely gaining a following in Kansas City. Kaldi’s Coffee has reaaaally good espresso and tea (multiple cups of tea come with an order!), as well as a variety of healthy and baked goods (something for everyone). Check them out here.
Kansas City River Market
One of my favourite things to do is visit a food market! There’s so much fast food and generally unhealthy food (see aforementioned BBQ) associated with Kansas City, and this place defies that stereotype. The entire market is crowded with vendors, visitors, and places to get food! I recommend the Hippie drink at City Market Coffee (pictured). It’s an iced coffee with almond milk, lavender, and just a little bit of honey. The market is located in downtown KC, and there is even a street car that operates for free that shuttles people from one end of downtown to another.
Kauffman Stadium
This game kicked off the summer to an amazing start. Not only did the Royals pull through at the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Blue Jays 5-4, but there was a celebrity softball match before the game that we had no idea was happening! I can now say that I’ve come within respectable distance from Paul Rudd, Eric Stonestreet, and the guy that voiced Flynn Rider in Tangled.

The hotel across the street had all these pink walls! I was told to pack lightly (only a carry on!) so I cut this shirt in half 🙂

Meet Sysamone
Sysamone Phaphon is the Founder/CEO of the tech startup FilmHero as well as the organizer of the professional women empowerment group Women Supporting Women. She is a passion driven entrepreneur who believes in empowering others to their fullest potential. A natural born leader that carves out time to help others with no expectation other than for us to all succeed together.
Q. What was your role and responsibility in the company when you found out you were expecting?
My kids are now 9/8. I was already a mother when I entered the tech industry. I entered tech as a full time entrepreneur about 15 months ago.
Q. What advice do you have for other women, how to create a healthy environment at home for both your kid and spouse, your relationship and yourself?
“You can have it all, you just have to define what your "all" is”
- Cathy engelbert CEO of Deloitte.
There’s so much to share with this question but I’ll choose one advice and that is to schedule all personal & work related events around your children. Lots of social gatherings will come and go, people, relationships will come and go, but your children will always remember when you were there and when you weren’t. So I schedule everything around their activities; school, sports, extracurricular activities, birthdays, playdates etc. Having everything pre-planned and preset in calendar at least 1-3 months in advance helps a lot in maintaining a healthy, non-spontaneous environment! It's also a team effort, remember that! Even the kids play a role in maintaining that healthy environment. There's always a way, you just have to find it even if it takes a lot of sacrifices and failures, don't ever quit. Eventually you will have your ‘all’ as defined by you.
Thinking out loud
I’m so tired of seeing pregnancy be categorized as a disability.
Q. What is that one thing that bothers you the most about parenting and you would want to fix in the system to make this process easier?
I’m so tired of seeing pregnancy be categorized as a disability. The system is so unfair to new parents to be and parents in general. This system needs to realize that people aren’t going to stop having kids and having kids doesn’t mean their talent and skills disappear. Mother’s shouldn't have to apply for disability when leaving a career to take maternity leave and all companies should allow fathers’ paternity leave to bond with their newborns. Companies/government needs to do better with family leave guidelines.

Q. Given an option to stay-at-home and enjoy being a mom for your kids, would you leave your job?
No. I was very grateful for the time I got to take to be a stay at mom when my children were young but I also enjoy working. My children are older now and at this age, they enjoy having a working mom and learning about all the fun stuff I do at work. My children love seeing me accomplish goals. I love that they love that because it pushes them to set goals, have ideas, create plans and even attempt to execute those plans.
On Preparing for the Change
I want my children to know they are never the reason I can't do anything. They are the reason I can!
Q. How has being a mother affected your career? Do you think you are consciously taking less challenging projects because you know you are a mom?
Being a mother fuels my fire to strive for success. I have no choice but to succeed for my kids. I may encounter mini failures, challenges and roadblocks but I never allow that to affect my decisions on what career path I take. I always take on challenging projects because I want my children to know they are never the reason I can't do anything. They are the reason I can! If I can't take on a challenging project it's because I don’t want to or it’s due to my own inability to come up with a working solution and not because I am a mom.
Q. How did you prepare yourself for the change? What books, blogs, advice, quotes do you remember, that motivated you during the time?
I read so much that I can't select any one thing in particular. I read and absorb everything I can. I listen to everyone influential or has a bit more experience than I do. I live life through quotes daily. Honestly, if Trump can be president, I sure as hell can make this happen. 😂
Rapid Fire
Favorite book: Too many to choose from but favorite writers; Maya Angelou & Paulo Coelho
Biggest stress buster: Red wine
Favorite game you play with your family: Silent game- the one that stays silent longest wins 😂
Favorite hobby: Baseball mom
Typical go-to meal: Cheeseburgers
Your best friend when it comes to handling tantrums: the death stare
On Benefits & Support
I got laid off during my first pregnancy, I didn't receive any benefits.
Q. What was your support structure during and after your pregnancy?
I got laid off during my first pregnancy and decided to be a stay at home mom for almost 3 years. I didn’t really need a support structure.
Q. How did you find out about the various benefits that you were entitled to as an expecting mother? How was that experience?
I didn't receive any benefits. I was denied unemployment insurance and told to apply for disability, because apparently being pregnant makes you ineligible for it in our country but you are eligible for disability because that’s what pregnancy is considered in our country- a disability.
Q. When you have to stay for longer duration in office or have off-sites, how do you manage with your family waiting at home for you?
I don't schedule meetings during designated children time so that my children aren’t waiting up for their mom. I bring work home all the time and handle it after evening time routine is finished and kids are in bed. It’s not always perfectly executed this way but thankfully I also have a healthy co-parenting relationship that allows me to make time for evening work events while my children are spending time with their father.
Q. Do you have advice on how to choose a daycare/babysitter/nanny?
Every daycare has a license, always ask for the license number so you can check for any infractions with county offices in your area. Invest in nanny cams.
On Managing Daily Tasks
I self educate on a daily basis-workshops, online learnings, etc.
Q. What is your typical workday and weekend like? I bet it would have changed drastically since you have become a parent. Do you find time for yourself?
I run a tech startup so I make my schedule - typical work week for me is; morning school routine 6a-8:30a/ Work 9a-3p / kids 4pm-8:30pm in no particular order; sports, extracurricular activities, tutoring sessions, homework, bedtime routine/ Resume work 9pm -midnight or 1am. Weekends- kids sports games, any activity kid related, household duties (cleaning, laundry etc.). Some time with friends + their kids and I manage to fit a few hours of work in between all of it. I rarely have time for myself, when I do, I sleep.
Q. How did you prevent yourself from falling behind your peers during this time?
I self educate on a daily basis-workshops, online learnings, etc. to stay up to date with everything and others in the industry.
Q. How do you handle situations when you have a demanding day at work and suddenly your child gets sick? What would you want to have in this situation?
When my child is sick, work gets put aside no matter what, it’s just what you have to do. Demanding days do not always mean tight deadlines that need immediate attention or that work does not get finished in a timely manner. It still can, this example happens a lot and that’s why every parent should have counterparts at work that can back them up. Cross train people to handle your work and vice versa. Be each other’s plan B for sick days so that you aren’t behind. Peer to peer collaboration and support is key to handling these situations.

100 Front Yard Landscaping Ideas
Advantages of Long Leaf Pine Needles in your landscape: It provides the best level of level of acidity for your plants to take in maximum soil nutrients It doesn't float and get rid of and breaks down more slowly, so it does not require to be reapplied as regularly as other mulches It is much easier to manage and lighter per cubic foot than other mulches: one big bale can cover as much location as 30 cubic feet of a lot of mulches the expense per square foot is competitive with other mulches It breathes better, does not compact, and permits much better water seepage It is easy to use: just unroll the bales and scatter by hand It doesn't bring in termites It adds natural product and nutrients to soil and minimizes weeds The consistent color and great texture of pine straw highlights the color, contrast, and texture of your landscape You can use it for erosion control where lawn will not grow to hold soil, even on hillsides and paths FAQ
How Can I Get Rid Of Mind-Your-Own-Business? My Garden Is Being Taken Over And I Can'T Rake It Out Without Disturbing My Wild Primroses. Is There Such A Thing As A Selective Weedkiller That Won'T Harm The Primroses Or My Oak Tree.
I am an antipoison person. I bought a house and also had an overgrown garden with things I wanted and didnt want. Answer...labor. I used a handshovel and dug up all the ground around. I left the plants I wanted but dug deep around them. After I got the soil loose, I mulched the whole area about 6 inches deep around the plants I wanted and 8 inches deep where the weeds had taken over. No need to buy expensive mulch...almost anything will do. Shredded leaves from the trees, old tree bark, rot from decomposing trees in the woods, pine needles, almost any of this will do if you have this stuff available. Shredded oak leaves make a beautiful mulch. For about $30 you can buy a leaf suckerupper than mulches and shreds at the same time. Weedkillers really arent all that selective. You may poison the ground and then find that new plants that you put in will die.
Is My Rabbit Supposed To Stay In Her Litter Box? I Just Got My First Bunny And I Was Surprised To Learn That I Could Potty Train Her. So At First I Had Her On The Recycled Paper Bedding And She Just Peed And Pooped Everywhere And She Would Never Do Anything In Her Litter Box. I Had Wood Chippings In The Litter Box. So I Decided That I Would Switch The Bedding. So I Put The Recycled Paper In The Litter Box And The Wood Chippings On The Cage Bottom. Now My Bunny Is Living In Her Litter Box And Won'T Come Out At All, She Just Comes Out To Poop On The Wood Chips But I Clean It Up Right Away. How Am I Supposed To Get Her Out Of The Litter Box? I Don'T Liek Her Lying In Poop And Pee. Also What Type Of Toys Can I Get To Entertain Her?
Hopefully the wood chips that you are using aren't pine or cedar, since it may result in respiratory problems. I would line the cage with newspaper and the litter box with the recycled paper. The newspaper would make it easier to clean up too. So let's say she pees, then you just simply tear out the part where she peed and put it in her litter box and cover it up with the recycled paper. Clean up after her poop and place some of it in her litter box. Just keep doing that, it can take a day to several weeks (usually 2). She will soon get the idea, bunnies are creatures of habit after all.Don't let her have free roam of the house, maybe just a particular room until she is litter trained. Also, if there's a certain area that she pees, maybe you can move the litter box there instead, unless you have a designated spot for her. When she is finally litter trained, you can let her explore several rooms, but make sure you put a litter box in each. It took my baby bunny about a week for him to pee in the litter box. Sometimes he misses, and it's right next to the box, but it's a matter of getting a bigger litter box for him. Mine sits in his litter box too. I put hay in the litter box too, kind of like a reward for peeing in the box, you should do that too if you haven't done so already. Put a handful of hay in a corner of the litter box...bunnies usually poop and eat at the same time, since consuming more food helps to push the digested food out. But if you are concerned about her sitting in her pee and poop, you can also buy some baby type wipes at the petstore to help clean her up, it's safe and dries fast. But you can't disallow her from sitting in her litter box entirely. So just keep her clean, wipe her once a day or every other day and clean the litter box often (I clean mine every other day). I have a straw mat that I line the cage with for my bunny, he loves laying and chewing on it. I have a few wooden chew toys for him too, a tube and some boxes for him to climb. Some ferret and cat toys are good too, but make sure it's not a choking hazard. I got mine a baseball looking toy that's made of natural grass and wood that he loves chewing on. My boyfriend has a bottom shelf that we lined with newspaper and a few toys for him to sit there in chill, since they like dark places. I also have a "sandbox" it's a simple cat litter box with about 2-3 inches of sand in it that he loves to play in, since bunnies love to dig, so I thought dirt was too gross and dirty, but sand isn't as much and it doesn't get stuck to his fur. I also hide some treats in the sand for him as well. Hope this helps =)
Does Anyone Know Any Pros Or Cons About The Camera Nikon D40x.? Do You Need That Many Megapixels.
Dr. Sam's overview of the megapixel question is excellent, but I can add some specific information about the D40x as I bought one a little over a month ago and have taken several hundred pictures with it. I've also introduced two of my children to photography through the D40x and a couple of "photo safaris" we've taken. The experience with my kids really highlights the D40x's strength, which is that it's incredibly easy to pick up and start taking stunning photographs. If all you do is leave it in "auto" mode and use it as a "point and shoot," you'll end up with the best-looking snapshots you've ever taken. But if you're willing to learn a couple of simple adjustments -- simple settings on the top of the camera, mostly -- you can take your photography to a whole new level. Case in point: the D40x comes with a "flower" icon on the selector dial, which presets the camera for close-up work. You get a very tight "depth of field," which means the distance from the lens that is in focus; anything closer or farther from this depth of field will be blurry. Here's a shot my 10-year-old son took using this preset: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lightningch... There's also a "mountain" icon which presets the camera to give you a much, much greater depth of field, suitable for landscapes and long shots. Think of it--if you're shooting a picture of a log cabin 100 yards away with trees 500 yards farther and a mountain a half-mile behind that, you want them ALL in focus, right? Here's a shot I took with the "mountain" (landscape) preset: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfisher71/5... You can see details in the ferns in the foreground and also in the fir and pine needles in the distance. (Check it out in one of the larger settings to see more about that.) There's also an "action" icon (a running stick-figure) which optimizes the camera's settings for motion shots. Since a large portion of my old film photographs include race cars and other forms of motorsport, this was a big attraction for me. I did a test session with my son out at his school's playground a few weeks ago, in which he was playing with a rubber-band powered airplane. Those shots are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfisher71/s... As you can see from several of them, the "action" setting captured it in the midst of some pretty rapid movements. And for those of us who learned to take pictures using cameras where we had to set the F-stop, film speed (remember film?
