I'm going to armor nerd out here for a moment. This bascinet was used by one of my opponents at the Combat Con armor tournament and it has this really cool piece below the visor. As he put it, this is a transitional bevor.
This solves a lot of issues regarding 6-1 chainmail aventails as plate is much more protective to the throat whereas chainmail can very easily grab a sword point or spear point.
He did the work custom by making two rivet holes and shaping the single mild steel pieces so it sits right below the chin thus reflecting any shots to the throat and it still has the aventails below it.
I love seeing the transitional ingenuity added to kits and this is a precursor to a great bascinet where the bevor would be attached directly to the helmet but loses some neck dexterity in the process.
I need to find some more historical references of this myself but it goes to show how punk rock armor designs were and how blacksmiths and knights were always trying new things similar to what buhurt/HEMA armor fighters do to see what is most effective for breathing, mobility, and protection.

^doodles of the guy (and some other things) i was talking about his name is victor he goes by any pronouns, there's also @igamer12 's wizard in here (long hair and round glasses). more info about viccy under the cut i guess
also erm. i know dogshit about adventure time, which vic is an oc for but whatever <Cain's idea so complain to it /joking. coming back on track, she's a living suit of armor that's also a cowboy that's also a sand wizard. their hobbies include lying for fun which i think is quite nicely captured in half the drawings i did. it also goes by like fifty different names, but the, so to speak, official one is victor (it doesn't mind diminutives or how you spell it). really doesn't use magic that often, prefers the sword, which is named big iron. also has a skeleton horse called sugarcube but i haven't really drawn that

I decided to take a stab at sketching a sci-fi great bascinet The result isn't that novel, but I'm proud of my idea to replace the functions of the eyeslits and breaths with a solid transparent visor and air hoses
