Bas felt like this was just not his week. After getting a poor grade on an exam in one of his classes, he was honestly looking forward to a bit of a break—have a time to reset. He wasn't even sure if he'd be doing anything for Thanksgiving or if he was going to skip it, but there were options. Leaving town hall after dropping off a document for work—really the last thing he needed to do this week before he was done for the week. "I'm officially done with work for the week." Bas said to the person beside him on the sidewalk. "I feel like I should celebrate."

like an even more depressing version of groundhog's day, cas found himself alone in that old victorian house which felt as still and quiet as a mausoleum. well, except for the constant snoring of his therapy dog. cas had sat himself in front of the television, but he wasn't really watching whatever show was droning on. per usual, his nose was stuck in a case file.

minutes ticked on as the sun left nothing but an inky black night. cas was illuminated only by the tv and a small, antique desk lamp rosalyn had thrifted a few weeks before the accident. he didn't quite care if the world slipped away from him. let it. time is a thief and will continue to take.

the bubble of focus was popped by the noise of the heavy oak door creaking open. he whipped around to see the culprit, pushing his readers up to the top of his head. a soft smile only appeared on his lips when he saw bas poke his head from behind the monstrous door. "hey kid." his voice soft and gentle yet still empty with grief. so much of her was etched into his son's face. a mix of pain, sadness, and pride always followed when he came home. "not feeling your dorm tonight?"

another night, another moment of isla finding herself in the hustle and bustle of another crowded bar. though she stuck out among the crowd. while others were in simple ‘going out clothes’, isla showed up adorned in a silk pink cami, a matching pink plaid skirt, and a furry off-the-shoulder jacket dusted with just a bit of blush pink at the ends, complimented by a pair of rose gold hoops and a matching choker. there was nothing like feeling as if every part of her was crafted to perfection to make her world feel right. she knew she was beautiful, and she knew every detail was crafted to entice. just like a knight going into battle, this was her armor and her charms were her sword.

painted lips wrapped around the straw of her colorful cocktail as she scanned the crowd, looking for her next source of attention. a lonely figure caught her attention, sitting by themselves at the bar. perfect.

nonchalantly, she sat on the stool next to him and beckoned the bartender over, ordering another drink. steely blue eyes glanced over at the man, her wicked little smirk taking its usual place on her lips. "all alone tonight?" the purr in her voice that she was known for ever present.

Kai almost felt bad for his gift, he wished he had more money to give a bigger gift, but he did try his hardest and he’d been staying up late to really get in extra time. But he was carrying a bag filled with items so at least he did have something to show for it, and he had the sign off sheets and his donation acknowledgements so that was something. He waved to Basilio, a small smile on his face. “Hey I have your gifts! I really hope you like them!”

"I would love to say it was definitely skin safe since I put it all over my skin, but I fear that I am not sure anymore." Darcy let out a deep sigh as she folded her arms over her chest. "If there is, it's not showering over and over again, I'll tell ya that. Any ideas?"

It wasn't that bad, he thought, looking at Darcy's skin. Well, actually it was, but he was not going to say that out loud when clearly she seemed to be struggling... with being blue. Bas hadn't managed to go out for Halloween, so he unfortunately hadn't even seen the costume. He had too much homework and case work to get through before he could actually have fun and by the time that happened, it was too late to go out. "I wasn't going to say anything about it. But I'm sure there's got to be some way to get it off." Bas knew very little about makeup removal or paint removal or whatever. "Was that even skin safe?"

tonight was a dream for isla: a reason to pull out one of her most jaw-dropping dresses and adorn herself with diamonds and glitter, plenty of halfway-decent champagne, and hundreds of eyes admiring her followed by fawning compliments and a few flirty exchanges. she loved being a spectacle, something to be adored, almost like art. and the crowd continued to provide as she made her way through the night.

the conversation she found herself in was surface-level at best, though she didn't mind. it gave her a moment to look over the room and finally take in the crowd for herself rather than be approached by them. a few familiar faces were noted and placed in the back of her mind for later. though, when her eyes landed on one figure, a wave of delighted surprise washed over her. isla excused herself from the group continuing on in their inconsequential exchanging of words and sauntered over to him, impeccably manicured nails pushing back curls that themselves were peppered with glitter.

a light tap on bas' shoulder announced her arrival, a dubois' branded smirk resting on her perfectly plumped lips. "I'm starting to think you lied to me saying parties weren't your scene. especially considering that's the only place I ever run into you." her enticing voice was completely wrapped in jest.

"will you save me a dance? need to see how well my lessons helped."

"Wine and movie sounds perfect if you're asking me." Wes wasn't big on social events and he was definitely a homebody. "But that's just me, and what I might do with Liza when I'm done. Clubbing could be fun if you're into it. Maybe it's me being an introvert and having a one year old, but I would so much rather take a nap to celebrate." Wes laughed. "December sixteenth."

College was one of the strangest experiences for Bas. He loved it, but he also wished that he could still be at his dream school. If he could take back everything that happened in the past few years he would. Bas couldn't do that and he was trying to make the best of a strange situation. "I'm hoping finals won't be brutal, but that's really the least of my concern." They wouldn't be the worst test he had to take. "I have no idea. My initial thoughts were a nice bottle of wine and a comfort movie, but I never go out for fun. I could go clubbing? I don't know. I have no idea." He shrugged. "When is your last final?"

Tilting his head back, Jackson couldn't help but roll his eyes at the driving and not drinking comment. Not the he had ever done it nor would he do it. They needed people first before they thought about that part.

"Let's just figure out the logistics of who's coming, where we're going and what time before we worry about that part." There had to be someone they knew that was sober. Again, a worry for later.

It would be a good time to go out. "Yeah, yeah it should be easy to recruit." He nodded, "Let's plan more in detail tomorrow or something, text me, yeah?" @basaaragon

It was a pain in the ass having to be so responsible all the time. He wished he could kick back and have fun. Grades in college hadn't mattered, even if Bas wanted to get good grades. He was a perfectionist and that wanted the best for himself, even if it meant that he was rarely able to do anything fun—although if anyone asked him, reading law books was fun. "That sounds good. At least if we're planning on driving, I'd appreciate having someone driving us around that's not drinking." Public intoxication—honestly drinking in general—was not appealing to him that much. Hanging out with friends was more of the appeal of a bar crawl. "I'm sure there's a list of other people ready to celebrate the end of the semester as well."

Ela leaned back in her chair, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Italian food? Now you're speaking my language," she said, her tone light and playful. "Honestly, Bas, karaoke isn’t about being a good singer. It’s about having fun, letting loose, and laughing at ourselves a little. No one expects perfection—it’s the enthusiasm that counts." She paused for a moment, her grin turning teasing. "Though if you’re really worried, I promise I’ll be cheering you on, no matter how off-key you think you are. And who knows? You might surprise yourself—or at least give us all a great story to tell later."

Her excitement was infectious as she leaned forward slightly. "But seriously, Italian food is always a win. There’s something about a plate of pasta or a wood-fired pizza that just makes everything feel right, you know? Let’s go all out tonight—good food, a little chaos, and just enough embarrassment to make it memorable." Her eyes sparkled with genuine enthusiasm. "We’ve got this." @basaaragon

Bas was one of those people that always liked having something to do. It made it easier to just not think about all the parts of life that he really didn't want to think about. He wanted to think about the pieces of his life that he could control, not the people in his life that he couldn't fix. So small wins like getting a break from work and having some time to relax were nice for him, even if Bas didn't like having them all the time—especially since he didn't have breaks all the time. But it had been his decision to leave school to come home—and while he didn't regret it, he didn't always have the easiest life.

He had to admit, this did sound a lot more fun than his original plan to grab a nice bottle of wine and sitting at home watching a movie. Bas wanted to go out, have some fun, and be social around people that he didn't exactly have to talk to every day. "Exactly! I'm excited." Bas laughed, having mixed feelings about college memories. "I am not the best singer, so I will apologize in advance for that." He smiled. "My initial thought is Italian food."

"No, for real. So, back home in Canada, our Thanksgiving is on Monday." Also, earlier in the year, but not the point. "We don't do the huge feast all the time, but we get together. But wait, you're telling me you haven't seen the bars get swarmed on Thanksgiving Eve?"

Aurora Bay is small, but he's seen the bars get swarmed, but he never went out because he spent his evenings either in his dorm, and once he and Eden were together, with her and her family. Just because they're not together didn't mean he was considering going out this year, though...

"Eh. Sometimes it's worth it if you're with the right people or meet someone interesting. I went to them when I first got here - I needed to find friends somehow." Robbie shrugs. "Want to go bowling? I don't know, it's your celebration. Four Leaf, Pinball Wizard... a movie?"

Bas thought for a second because he wasn't sure what he wanted to do. "I don't think people celebrate the day before Thanksgiving with anything but cooking prep. But what do I know?" He knew that he usually took the afternoon to relax on his own. Today he didn't feel like he wanted to be alone though. That was sort of the truth.

He hadn't really done anything to celebrate the earlier holidays, like Halloween, needing to get caught up on work. Bas wasn't really the type to even go out that often because he felt like he had better things to do and thought about all the tasks he could be working on while he was out.

"College parties aren't that fun," he shrugged. "Well, some of them are, but I don't know. Have you ever been to a fun one?"

"I got you man." Jackson said with a nod. This was the first time that Jackson felt up to going out and partying since he had been back in Aurora Bay. "How about we do a bar crawl?" He asked as he started to think about what bars they should go to. Sharky's was always a must. "We could pregame at my place, walk, to the bars then crash at my place. Could even invite more of the homies too."

Jacksons guest list varied. Sometimes it was long and sometimes it was short. However, it was Bas's birthday and not his so he had to respect whatever he chose. @basaaragon

Bas missed his undergrad days when he could sit around do nothing—and party with friends. These days he felt like he had to be responsible. Ever since he came home, he felt like he was the glue that was trying to hold his family together and it was exhausting. He wished he could have been here. Some days Bas really did just want to be a young guy in his early twenties with no responsibilities. "Hell yes, that sounds like the perfect plan. I have nothing to do tomorrow and don't want to sit at home doing nothing."

Ela smiled, the idea of a karaoke bar bringing an unexpected spark to her mood. "You’re on," she said, her voice light with amusement. "Karaoke and food sound like just the kind of reset I need too." She hadn’t been to a bar like that in a while, and the thought of belting out some tunes, even if it was just for fun, felt like the perfect way to shake off any lingering weight.

"Food first, though—gotta fuel up before we make a fool of ourselves with the singing," she added, a playful glint in her eyes. "And hey, college memories are the best, right? Let’s make tonight one we’ll remember."

Ela’s gaze softened a little. "A nice dinner and some karaoke—no baggage, just a good time. I like that idea." @basaaragon

"It's the only thing I could do, I suppose. Survive, I mean." He did feel like maybe he could slack off a bit, but he wasn't that type of person. Bas let out a laugh. Honestly, sitting at home alone watching a television show didn't sound all that bad, but it wasn't what he was going for this time. A nice dinner with his family would be something he'd consider. These days that seemed like far too much to ask. It came with too much emotional baggage. "Watching television is the last thing I want to do."

He let out a hum at the suggestion to go get food. "Oh my gosh, I have not been to a karaoke bar since I left the state for my undergrad." He'd loved college. "Maybe we could get something to eat and then go sing some songs?" He was excited. "And you're right. That is the perfect reset."

College was a huge learning curve for him and it wasn't any easier that he was married and had a one year old, so finding time to study and make sure he was doing all he needed was a bit difficult. At least his father-in-law owned Neptune and was merciful to him and let him have more days off than usual since he was aware of finals coming.
