When I'm looking for a photographic challenge in the reeds, I try to find bearded reedlings. I rarely see them. And when I do spot them, they are either far away or hidden by the reeds. Arrrghh … Recently I managed to take at least a few pictures

My personal highlights - 2023 - part 3:

Rare birds and first time sighting. I have been birding since I was a child and taking pictures of birds for more then two decades and yet, there are still a lot of first times. And the funny thing is that I am not one of those birders that actively looks for rare birds, it just happens. And this year was full of those first times. The pictures are not all perfect, but for me they are a reminder of the great feeling of seeing a kind of bird for the first time.

OKAY GUYS I was so happy when these birds popped up on my dash because shortly after christmas I had the most MAGICAL disney ass shit thing happen to me. My brother, my dad and I went ice skating on a little lake where we have always been ice skating since I was little. (It’s not deep at all, it’s more like a flooded field so it freezes over more quickly) and it’s surrounded by reed. Well and then on this already magical winter wonder day, wee look into the distance and see 3 perfect fluffy orbs of a bird hop along the ice!!! We got really close and they didn’t care at all they just hopped along and went about their business and I almost died because they looked so cute and round and BLUE and magical.

I looked up “roundest bird” and i dont know what i expected but im crying.

Look at it. Its called a bearded reedling

Look at them. Theyre so spherical. So round. Why is your face in the middle of your body sir. I cannot believe this bird is real.

I imagine i could bounce one like a basketball and it would be perfectly fine.

This bird is perfect. This is my new favourite bird
