Today’s Thirsty Thursday post is of the place that is knows as the oldest Irish Tavern in New York City: McSorley’s Old Ale House.

Since 1854 (though historian Richard McDermott claims it was opened in 1862 based on public records), sawdust on the floor, historical photos, memorabilia and articles adorn the walls, and wishbones in memory of WWI doughboys that never returned from the Great War, McSorley’s is a glimpse of old New York that is rarely seen in the big city of today longer seen.

Oh, on a more “modern” note, ladies have been able to partake in the festivities since 1970 when a court ruled that Women cannot be excluded from the bar. So much for the motto: “Good Ale, Raw Onions and No Ladies”. Guess the good Ale and raw onions will have to do ;)

Okay, I have two challenges here. You may be able to help me with one. First, this place is closed, so I can’t go hang out there today. Or tomorrow. No outdoor seating, no to-go beverages, and for the love of GHOD no sitting at the end of the bar looking out alla them big ol windows as the September sun drops lower in the sky and the light gets softer and sweeter as Kevin or Heather pulls another damn-near-perfect Guinness and maybe a wee shot o’ Tullamore Dew to go with it. Not happening. Not today. So, you probably can’t help me with that. Second, I did another run of these prints last year (the first sold out), but instead of cutting them with a 2-inch border the way I wanted, they sliced ‘em right down to the 16” x 12” image. They look great — beautiful hand-pulled silkscreen 3-color art on heavy archival paper — but they’re the wrong size, so I’m selling them, signed and numbered, for $50 each, (the regular ones are $150) AND I’ll donate $10 from each sale to the BK Inn staff GoFundMe campaign.
