I sat by the creek, kicking my feet in the water. It was a warm summer day, the air was filled with kids playing their games and eating at their snacks. I was one of the older kids, an Elder if you will, but I mostly hung out by myself.

Pushing myself off the ground, I waded further into the creek. The cool, running water felt amazing against the heat of the day.

Sighing, I glanced at my watch. 5:50. Ten minutes til the dinner tuba would sound.

I made my way out of the water, stopping at the shore to put my shoes on. I grabbed my bag and stuffed my book inside.

I smiled at the kids as I headed to the trading tree. The tuba sounded and all the kids began rushing home. I stayed behind for a moment, relishing the quietness of the creek.

"Excuse me?"

I turned around and saw a guy wearing a red cape, sweats, and a helmet. "Can I help you?"

"Oh, I just wanted to make sure you're OK. The tuba sounded already but you haven't left yet." The guy asked.

"I'm OK. I always stay a little later than everyone else. I like the quiet."

He nodded. "I'm David, by the way."

I smiled. "(Y/N)."

"Nice to meet you. Will you be back tomorrow?"

"Yeah, I was planning on it."

David smiled wide, practically bouncing on his heels.

"You should come to Elder Rock with me! You can meet my friends and we can play D&D!"

I laughed. "That sounds fun. I'll meet you here and you can show me Elder Rock."

David held out his hand. "Sounds great."

I smiled and shook his hand.

The Next Day

I packed my bag full of snacks and a couple books, saying goodbye to my parents as I left the house. The second the door clicked shut, I raced to the creek.

I slowed to a walk as I nearest the trading tree. David was sitting on a log talking to one of the kids.

"You ready?" I asked.

"I think I should be the one asking you that," David said, standing up.

I scoffed. "I'm totally ready for whatever you're planning."

David shook his head, a grin on his face. He held out his hand. "Then let's go!"

I grinned and took it, following him to Elder Rock.

We came to a trail that led to a large boulder with tiki torches in front. There was a small opening underneath.

"Are you sure we're gonna fit in there?" I asked.

David sat on the ground, pushing his feet into the opening. "Yup."

I stared as he slipped through, disappearing right before my eyes. Taking a deep breath, I copied what David did and slid into the cave.

I yelped as I crumbled to the ground instead of landing safely on my feet.

Laughter filled the air and I felt David's hands on my arms, pulling me up.

"Sorry, I should've warned you about the drop."

I playfully glared at him. "Yeah you should have."

"Who's this?"

I looked over and saw another guy in a cape and glasses and one with body armor.

"You guys take this seriously, don't you?" I asked.

"You dare bring a mocker into our dwelling, David?" The guy with glasses spoke.

"(Y/N)'s cool, Mark. You'll see. Now let's play!"

Mark glared at me but sat down at the table. The rest of us followed suit.

The guy in body armor, who I learned was Barry, handed me a character sheet. "You'll need to fill this out before we begin the game. David and I can help you if you'd like."

"Thank you. This looks like it's going to be a lot of fun."

I looked around the table and couldn't help but feel like I was going to have the best summer of my life.

Barry would never get jealous.

He just wasn’t the jealous type and there was absolutely no reason to be. First of all, they weren’t dating or anything. Second, Rafe Cameron was completely and hopelessly into Barry, no doubt about that. When Barry was in the room, the boy never as much as looked at anyone else. And Barry liked it that way. He liked it when Rafe looked at him with those baby-blue puppy eyes, how he licked his lips when watching Barry, and how he would interrupt when Barry was talking for a bit too long with someone else. Or he would even start a fight with that someone else. And Barry would just shake his head and grin and tell him to shut the fuck up, which, of course, Rafe never did without some more arguing and sulking. Yeah, Barry liked it that Rafe got jealous, but he himself never did.

Well, almost never.

“Where you off to?” Barry sat in his chair at the back of his trailer, his fingers busy with rolling a joint. He only lifted his head slightly to look up, meeting Rafe’s eyes who had got up from his own chair seconds ago and was now heading for his bike.

“I got an appointment. And I need to change,” Rafe had stopped and was gesturing with his hands.

Barry lowered his head and gazed at Rafe from below. “An appointment, huh? A fancy family dinner you need to get all dressed up for?”

Rafe chuckled. “Nah, I got a business appointment,” he replied and the pride in his voice was very noticeable. “There’s this client, potential client. He’s from Europe and he’s keen on buying some property on the island, like a real big investment. And I’m sure I’ll be closing a big deal soon. Like a real big deal. And when I do, my dad will see how I get stuff done, how I’m the one keeping the family business running.”

Barry had focused his attention back to the joint in his fingers. “Sure,” he just mumbled, not really caring what else Rafe had to say about his big business plans.

He noticed that Rafe stood their for a moment longer, as if waiting for something. But since Barry didn’t say another word, the blond left.

Barry heard the roar of Rafe’s dirt bike and leaned back in his chair, lighting his joint.

“Big businessboy,” he chuckled to himself.

An hour or so had passed and Rafe hadn’t come back yet. Barry expected him to show up any minute, most likely whining since his big business deal had failed. And Barry would make sure to comfort him. Only that Rafe didn’t show up.

Barry checked his phone. No new messages from Rafe.

Not that he cared. But it was strange, since Rafe had been the one who had asked Barry if they would hang out today. And then Rafe had left.

And then Barry remembered how Rafe had been looking at his phone a lot, when he was here. How he had been grinning at some point. That cute grin, not the psychopath grin.

Barry frowned at his own thoughts. He decided he wasn’t going to wait around like some fucking housewife for Rafe to come back.

He hopped on his bike and rode off. Not really having any destination in mind, he somehow ended up at the fucking country club of all places.

Instead of bursting in and yelling for Rafe, he remained outside, stayed on his bike. There was no reason why he should burst into these fancy people’s sacred place today. There was no reason why he was here at all.

He should just leave.

Then he saw him.

And the boy hadn’t lied about dressing up. He was wearing a light suit with a white shirt, top buttons undone. He looked very church picnic. His hair washed and brushed. His smile pretty and pleasing.

And that smile was directed at a man who had left the building with him. A man Rafe stood now in front of. And smiled at. Looked at with baby-blue eyes, and fucking smiled at.

The man was tall, maybe in his late forties or early fifties. Sandy blond hair with grey streaks. His shirt gave away a muscular build. He had a clean shaved face and very attentive eyes which were focused on Rafe, who kept on talking and smiling.

They looked like they could be father and son, only that this guy wasn’t Ward Cameron. And this guy looked at Rafe like no father should look at his son.

Barry clenched his jaw.

Rafe extended his hand, and the man took it, held it for too long, and placed his other hand on Rafe’s shoulder, pressing it, and before letting go, his fingers brushed Rafe’s cheek.

And that boy still fucking smiled.

At that point Barry got off his bike. His hands clenched into fists, he was ready to jump that motherfucker or Rafe or both.

Rafe noticed him, and the boy’s goddamn pretty face lit up even more. Rafe quickly said something to the perv who was gawking at Rafe’s ass as he left.

When Barry was just a couple of feet away, Rafe started talking about what a big deal he was closing, about how fucking good he was with business and Barry stopped and stared. He wondered if that damn boy was really so bold or just damn oblivious.

Rafe was obviously oblivious when it came to detecting Barry’s anger, who had decided this wasn’t the right place to lose control.

With Rafe still in this giddy mood, they drove back to his trailer.

They weren’t even inside when Rafe started babbling about what a cool dude this James was, how he was British, and like he was very interested in investing in a huge development site in the east of the island.

“You think me a fucking idiot, Cameron?!” With a thud, Rafe’s back hit the wall, as Barry pushed the taller boy against it, using his forearm against his throat to fix Rafe in place. Rafe stared at him with wide eyes, clearly puzzled by the sudden attack.

“What?” Rafe gasped and his eyes flickered when he gazed at Barry’s distorted face.

“Don’t fuck with me. I saw what I saw,” Barry hissed.

“I don’t understand what you–“

Barry’s hand grasped Rafe’s chin. His face inches away from his, their breaths colliding, with Rafe inhaling sharply and Barry fuming.

“You think I’m stupid, boy? Hm? That what you think?”

Rafe tried to shake his head, but flinched when Barry just tightened his grip. Those blue eyes were already watering.

“I’m sorry,” Rafe whispered, though he didn’t seem to understand what he should be sorry for.

Instead of replying and explaining, Barry forcefully turned Rafe around. That pretty face banging at the wall, making Rafe groan in pain. And even louder when Barry twisted his arms behind his back.

The boy tried to turn his head, see what was going on, and met Barry’s eyes that glowed with fury, a yet unknown kind of fury.

Rafe whimpered as his pants and shorts were pulled down. He tried to fight, but Barry held him firmly with one hand. He used his other hand to free his own rock-hard cock. He spit on his hand once, rubbing it over his length.

Its going DOWN in the JJ fandom +theories

A new short released which made the MAIN SHIP now VERY weird as Craig is now related to Barry in some way, but everyone in the fandom is well aware of this fact at this point

like, come on, they ARE related in some way. I'm gonna share my theory below, but, like, there are SO MANY other paths to go and Halfbrick does the one that wrecks what a lot of the fanart is the craig x barry ship.

But moving on from this, I'm interested in what path HB is going to take, like, is Craig going to be his dad or brother, or are is Peter Simpkins, the man that all scientists are cloned from? I think the latter would be much more interesting, as the y have NEVER touch on this after the science crew was introduced

like, THEY WERE SETTING UP SOMETHING THAT NEVER REALLY PAID OFF!!!

So I'm thinking the story line is going to be Barry digs to see what's going on and investigates Brains or a member of the science crew, and they let something slip about Peter Simpkins which Barry researches. He sees a picture of hm which looks just like his dad, he finds out he died in whatever year but actually ended faking his death, and settling and having Barry. Brains then obsessively made duplicates, trying to make his friend.

Better yet, what is Barry HIMSELF is a duplicate. Going into full on conspiracy's, but :p

This would explain why he's never really died, Brains couldn't kill someone so similar to his late friend, or maybe he KNEW it was Peters son or something like that, still not pleased but kind of relieved that Barry's there.

Debby highlights that a storm's effects go beyond just wind strength: "The real impacts will come from water."

Experts caution that people might mistakenly believe they are safe with lower-category storms.

Hurricane Debby’s imminent landfall and the potential for up to 30 inches of rain in some Southeast locations vividly demonstrate a challenge meteorologist Barry Goldsmith faced back in 2012.

Goldsmith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Texas, sought a memorable slogan to help the public understand that the traditional wind category system for hurricanes does not reflect the potential for rainfall or the impact of storm surge. At the 2012 National Hurricane Conference, he introduced the phrase: "There’s more to the story than the category."

"It's a great message," Brian McNoldy, a senior research scientist at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, noted on X in July. McNoldy has repeatedly used this phrase to emphasize the critical importance of rain and storm surge.

The message has consistently proven accurate, and it's particularly relevant for Debby. The storm's main threats are expected to be storm surge and heavy rainfall, affecting areas from Florida’s Gulf Coast to Charleston, South Carolina.

"This is another case where the primary impacts will come from water rather than wind," said James Franklin, a retired branch chief of the hurricane specialist unit at the National Hurricane Center. "While the forecast category (borderline 1/2) will be significant for those near and to the right of the landfall point, other areas will experience severe impacts as well."

That said, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale still has its value, particularly for personal preparation. "A Category 5 involves surge, rain, and wind damage," Franklin posted on X in August, emphasizing that he doesn't agree with the notion that category is irrelevant. "Category is a good indicator of the worst winds you might face."

However, the hurricane categories don't provide the full picture. They don't account for rain, surge, or the storm's forward speed, as noted by experts like Craig Fugate, former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Experts also caution that people might mistakenly feel secure with lower-category storms, thinking, for example, that it's "just a Cat 1."

Why forward speed matters

Debby's designation won't reflect the potential wall of water up to 10 feet high that could impact the coast along Florida’s Big Bend overnight Sunday and throughout Monday. It also doesn't account for the severe flooding that could result from the anticipated rainfall along Debby's path.

"That's the key question—how much rain will fall and where," Fugate told USA TODAY on Sunday. "According to the current forecast, some areas in Northeast Florida could receive over a foot of rain as the storm progresses." Fugate also highlighted that even higher amounts are anticipated along the coasts of South Carolina and northeast Georgia.

At one point on Sunday, the forecast predicted up to 30 inches of rain for the South Carolina and Georgia coasts. However, by mid-afternoon, the weather service had revised that estimate downward.

A hurricane moving through an area at 20 mph causes less damage compared to a storm that stalls or moves slowly at 8 to 10 mph. A slow-moving storm can also produce significantly more rain than a faster-moving one.

Recent research by hurricane scientists has shown that Atlantic storms seem to be slowing down before making landfall, leading to increased rainfall and flooding problems.

Should the wind scale be revised?

Several researchers have proposed exploring alternative methods to more accurately communicate risks.

Jennifer Collins, a professor at the Geosciences School at the University of South Florida, has co-authored research examining how the public perceives the wind scale versus other proposed options. She contributed to a 2021 paper that suggested a Tropical Cyclone Severity Scale, incorporating wind speeds, rainfall, and storm surge to enhance public understanding of the hazards.

"Debby is another example of how a storm's category doesn’t fully reflect the severity of its impacts," Collins said on Sunday. "I’m particularly concerned about the potential for flooding, especially in areas that have already been affected by previous tropical cyclones."

Collins emphasized the importance of reviewing all the information available on the hurricane center's website.

While wind category reflects the strength of a storm's winds, it provides limited insight into the storm's size or rainfall potential, noted Phil Klotzbach, a senior research scientist at Colorado State University. "We argue that using pressure as a metric might be more effective for categorizing hurricanes."

Pressure better correlates with fatalities and damage and offers an indication of storm size in addition to intensity, Klotzbach said on Sunday.

He also suggested that rainfall should be assessed separately due to the challenges in communicating flood risks, such as those posed by slow-moving or very large storms.

Hurricane Beryl – Initially a Category 5 in the Caribbean, Beryl made landfall on July 8 near Matagorda, Texas, as a Category 1 hurricane. It caused severe flooding with rainfall reaching 13 to 14 inches and left millions without power. A week after the storm, around 300,000 customers in the Houston metro area were still without electricity.

Tropical Storm Allison – In June 2001, Tropical Storm Allison brought devastating flooding to Texas, with Houston receiving up to 40 inches of rain.

Debby in 2012 – Tropical Storm Debby resulted in an estimated $250 million in damages and caused the deaths of eight people.
