I love watching people living their domestic life and seeing how that goes. I always thought Jane and Paul were very tense. I do remember very clearly an evening at Cavendish Avenue where she wanted the window shut and he wanted the window open. That really was like a Joe Orton play. It was fucking great. I sat there all night watching Jane get up and open it, and Paul close it, and it was just like, nothing was said. And quite soon after that they split up, which of course I could have told anyone they would.

Visits to Paul and Jane Asher weren't quite as relaxed as those Mick and I spent with George and Pattie. With hindsight I can see that they were rather uptight. There were constant little frictions. Mick and I were very close and we would never have done anything like fret about windows being open or closed, or anything as petty as that, but this is what happens when couples start to come apart.

What The Butler Saw, by Joe Orton
What The Butler Saw is the last play by Joe Orton, a popular playwright who frequently wrote black comedies. The play was finished in 1967, but it's production was delayed until 1969 because Orton was murdered a month after he had finished writing.
Just to give a notion of how famous Orton was, he was requested by The Beatles to write a script for them to star in, and another of Orton's plays, The Erpingham Camp, was directed by Sir Ian McKellen.
While this play is supposed to be an absurdist comedy, more specifically, a farce, I found it lacking in humour. I suppose it's an exemple of what they call British humour. There are so many things going on at the same time during the play that it confuses me. I boiled down to the essential incestuous parts, but in case you want to check out the play in it's full craziness, the BBC2's Theatre Night staging from 1987 is available on Youtube. This staring was produced by Shaun Sutton, directed by Barry Davis and stars Dinsdale Landen as Dr. Prentice, Tessa Peake-Jones as Geraldine Barclay, Prunella Scales and Mrs. Prentice and Tyler Butterworth as Nicholas Beckett.
The play opens with Dr. Prentice interviewing Geraldine for a position as secretary in his office in a mental asylum. He begins by asking who is her father and when she says she doesn't know, he continues to press the issue, wanting to know how she was conceived. Geraldine confesses that her mother had been raped when she worked as the chambermaid at the Station Hotel, and that's how Geraldine came to be. Dr. Prentice tells her that he once himself stayed in the Station Hotel and asks more about Geraldine's mother. She tells him that she haven't seen her mother in many years, having been raised by Mrs. Barclay, who recently died in an explosion. Then, he asks Geraldine to undress, under the guise of being medical examination so he can know she's healthy before he hires her. She is hesitant but agrees.
When Geraldine goes behind the curtain to make herself comfortable so that the doctor could examine her, Mrs. Prentice arrives to the office, as her group trip had gone awry and she had instead spent the night at the Station Hotel, where a bellboy tried to rape her and stole the dress she had been wearing, leaving her only with a coat to cover herself. The bellboy, Nicholas, is also blackmailing Mrs. Prentice, as he had taken photos of them having sex the night before (one can assume that now Mrs. Prentice claims it was an attempted rape to hide the fact that she was having an extramarrital affair). One of his demands in that Mrs. Prentice find him a job, and so decides to have her husband take Nicholas as a secretary, which is why Mrs. Prentice asks that the doctor employ the bellboy to prevent him of further living a life of crime.
As if the scene wasn't chaotic enough, in arrives Dr. Rance, who wants to carry a government sanctioned inspection in the asylum. When Dr. Rance sees Geraldine, Dr. Prentice lies that she's a patient who had attacked him, while naked. Dr. Rance then writes an order to have Geraldine committed, believing her to be have been molested by her father as a child, despite her insistence to have never even known him. Dr. Rance then takes Geraldine away and Mrs. Prentice returns with Nicholas, so he can be interviewed. Dr. Rance begins to believe that Dr. Prentice is insane.
Sargent Match knocks in the door as he wants to interview Nicholas regarding the bellboy "misconducted himself with a party of school children". In a attempt to hide, Nicholas puts on Geraldine's clothes, while Geraldine, not wanting to be wearing the hospital nightgown's, puts on the clothes that Nicholas had removed.
The scene escalates further as Dr. Rance becomes increasingly unhinged and tries to diagnose everyone in the clinic, all based on the misunderstanding caused by Dr. Prentice trying to hide Geraldine from his wife. Eventually, Dr. Prentice hits Mrs. Prentice and runs, as Dr. Rance wants to commit him to the asylum. Finally, Nicholas confesses his part in the farse and after a long time, Geraldine also persuades Dr. Rance that she's not insane. During her speech, she laments having lost her lucky charm, an elephant charm. Dr. Rance tells her he found it and returns it to her, upon which Nicholas then says that he has a matching one.
Mrs. Prentice takes both charms and places them together, and they fit morning a single jewellery, which she then says that had once belonged to her, having been gifted it by her rapist after he attacked her back when she worked as a chambermaid in the Station Hotel. The assault resulted in a pregnancy with twins, which she put out to adoption, leaving each one with half of the charm. She then recognizes Geraldine and Nicholas as her long lost children.
Dr. Prentice then chimes in that the jewel was actually his and he had lost it after having sex during a power outage with an unknown maid, therefore revealing that he had been the one to rape Mrs. Prentice years before and to be the father of Geraldine and Nicholas.
Dr. Rance announces happily that since Dr. Prentice is Geraldine's father, then he was right about Geraldine being the victim of incestuous abuse by her father.
Dr. Rance: "If you are this child's father my book can be written in good faith - she is the victim of an incestuous assault!" Mrs. Prentice: "And so am I, doctor! My son has a collection of indecent photographs which prove beyond doubt that he made free with me in the same hotel - indeed in the same linen cupboard where his conception took place." Dr. Rance: "Oh, what joy this discovery gives me! Double incest is even more likely to produce a best-seller than murder - and this is as it should be for love must bring greater joy than violence."
And with the incest (and attempted incest) being revealed and the family reunited, the play finally ends. Like I said, I cut off most of the events, for their were awfully confusing and chaotic. Not my type of work, not at all. There were also no butlers, which makes me question the title, but hey, that's it.

The Color Red In A World Full Of Black & White: Remembering Bray Wyatt
One year ago today , the wrestling business paused once again to remember one of their own. The day after the death of Terry Funk , came the death of Bray Wyatt. This article is going to celebrate the life and career of Bray Wyatt and how he has impacted professional wrestling.
Windham Lawrence Rotunda was born to Stephanie and Mike Rotunda on May 23,1987 in Brooksville, Florida. He was the oldest of the three children , a younger brother , Taylor , and a younger sister , Mika. He was an amateur wrestler in high school and won the state championship in 2005, the year he graduated. He also played football as a defensive tackle and a guard in junior college. He earned a football scholarship from Troy University and played football there for two years. During his time there , he decided to join the family business and become a professional wrestler.
Windham was a third-generation wrestler. His grandfather was BlackJack Mulligan , his uncles are Kendall and Barry Windham. Therefore , his father is ‘ Mr.IRS ’ Mike Rotunda. He was trained by his uncle Barry before being signed to WWE in 2009 and making his debut in a dark match on an episode of Florida Championship Wrestling ( FCW ) , in February of the same year. FCW is now known as NXT. In June of the same year , he would go on to win the FCW Tag Team Championships alongside his brother , who was known as Bo Rotundo. He would be known as either Alex Rotundo or Duke Rotundo during this time.
In June of 2010, Windham would take the name , Husky Harris , and join the Inaugural season of WWE NXT. He was a Rookie and would be paired with Cody Rhodes as his Pro. Cody is the son of ‘ The American Dream ’ , Dusty Rhodes. He would be eliminated from the competition on the August 17 episode of NXT. He kept the Husky Harris name as continued to work in FCW. In October of the same years, he would join Wade Barrett’s Nexus faction. They would torment the main roster, especially John Cena. He would also be in the group under the rule of CM Punk. Thus, he would be taken off WWE TV and repackaged into the gimmick he would be well known for after being kicked in the head by Randy Orton. He would make his return to FCW in 2011 under the name Axl Mulligan, thus , this character never made it to TV. He would still be known as Husky Harris.
When WWE made the decision to rebrand FCW into what is now known as NXT in 2012 , Windham Rotunda became known as Bray Wyatt. He would make his NXT debut on the July 11, 2012 episode. Originally, he had a wrestler named Eli Cottonwood as his tag team partner. This pairing happened in FCW. After suffering an injury to his pectoral muscle and having surgery to repair it , Wyatt remained on NXT TV, cutting promos and forming a faction , came to be known as The Wyatt Family . The faction consisted of him , Luke Harper , and Erick Rowan. Wyatt returned to the ring in 2013 and defeated Yoshi Tatsu. Therefore , he suffered his first loss in NXT when he was defeated by his brother, Bo Dallas. His second loss was to Chris Jericho. Harper and Rowan would become NXT Tag Team Champions on the May 2 episode of NXT. On May 27,2013 , WWE began airing vignettes of the faction on Monday Night RAW , teasing their debut on the main roster.
On July 8,2013 , Bray along with Luke and Rowan , made their WWE main roster debut on Monday Night RAW. Their first victim would be Kane. Thus, they attacked other wrestlers such as 3MB and R-Truth to send messages to the Kane and telling him to , “ Follow The Buzzards ” . Wyatt was challenged to a Ring of Fire match by Kane at Summerslam the same year. Wyatt won the match with the help of Harper and Rowan. They soon targeted Kofi Kingston , with Wyatt having a match with him at Battleground and winning. Wyatt would go on to have major storylines with John Cena and Daniel Bryan ( Bryan Danielson ) during the later part of 2013 and into 2014. Cena would defeat Wyatt at Wrestlemania 30. This would be his first major loss while being on the main roster . The Wyatt Family would also go on to attack Chris Jericho, who was returning to the WWE from being on tour with his band , Fozzy. This storyline ended in a Steel Cage match on the September 8,2014 episode of RAW. Wyatt won the match by escaping from the cage.
Soon, Bray Wyatt would be involved with another major WWE Superstar after his rivalry with Dean Ambrose. During this rivalry, he would offer to help Ambrose as he did to Harper and Rowan, whom he set free. Their rivalry would end in an Ambulance match , which Wyatt would come out on top. Thus , Wyatt would be calling himself , ‘ The New Face Of Fear ’. At the WWE Fastlane Pay-Per-View , he would appear from a casket and call out The Undertaker, challenging him to a match at Wrestlemania 31. However, he would be defeated by The Phenom. The Wyatt Family would soon make their return as a faction in 2015. Wyatt would soon introduce a new member of the family the same year , Braun Strowman. Wyatt and Harper would soon find themselves in a match against the Brothers of Destruction at Survivor Series of the same year.
Wyatt would have a rivalry with Randy Orton in 2016. They would have two matches , one at Backlash and one at No Mercy. Thus, Randy joined The Wyatt Family after helping Wyatt in his match against Kane. Wyatt and Orton would be the only surviving team members for Team Smackdown at Survivor Series. This would occur after Orton saved Wyatt from taking a spear from Roman Reigns. They would go on to win the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. In 2017 , Randy turned his back on Wyatt and went after the WWE Championship. He would be shown destroying the Wyatt Family compound and Sister Abigail’s grave. At Wrestlemania 33, Wyatt would lose the WWE Championship to Orton. He would go on to form a tag team with Matt Hardy. They were known as The Deleter of Worlds.
In 2019, Wyatt would be repackaged as a Mr.Rogers type character. Fans would start seeing vignettes on WWE programming consisting of different toys such as a puppet of a buzzard and a doll that looked like a witch. Bray would appear in the vignettes of a what looked like a children’s show. This would be called ‘ The Firefly Funhouse ’ . Wyatt would also have a new look as well. He would have a shorter beard and a leaner body. During the segments , he would also use a puppet of Vince McMahon. He would also debut a new gimmick , The Fiend. Nevertheless, he would gain a manager in this role. His manager and co-host of Firefly Fun House would be Alexa Bliss. The two would be drafted to RAW in 2020 after being on Smackdown in 2019. In 2021 , Bliss would turn on The Fiend and say that she didn’t need him . Wyatt would be released in July of 2021.
In September of 2022, an acapella the song , ‘ White Rabbit ’ by Jefferson Airplane would be played at WWE Live Events and TV programming. QR codes would also be shown on both RAW and Smackdown. Everything involved during the eerie segments would lead to teasing the return of Bray Wyatt. At Extreme Rules , Wyatt would make his return to the company . At the end of the PLE, the lights on the arena would dim and a door would be seen. Wyatt would soon enter the arena from the door with a lantern and real life versions of his Fire Fly Funhouse characters. He would reveal himself as the White Rabbit. A new masked character , Uncle Howdy , would be debuted during his return as well. The light in the door that he came out of would be a tribute to fallen Wyatt Family member , Luke Harper ( Brodie Lee ) , who would pass away in 2020.
Bray Wyatt‘s last main roster storylines would be with LA Knight and Bobby Lashley. Wyatt and Knight would have a Pitch Black match at the 2023 Royal Rumble , with Wyatt being victorious. He would start a feud with Bobby Lashley going to Wrestlemania 39 , however , it was scrapped due to Wyatt being out of action with an illness. He was set to return to the ring on August 19th, 2023. Thus, his return would never happen.
Bray Wyatt tragically passed at the age of 36 on August 24, 2023 from a heart attack due to the COVID-19 virus. He left behind a fiancé , JoJo, and four children. He left behind a family who loved him as well as his fans and colleagues. WWE COO , Paul ‘ Triple H ’ Levesque , would announce his death on the social media platform , X ( Twitter), after getting a phone call from Mike Rotunda informing him of his son’s death. On the August 25, 2023 episode of Friday Night Smackdown , WWE would pay tribute to him alongside Terry Funk. The rocking chair Wyatt used would be placed in the middle of the ramp as the WWE Universe would use their cell phone flashlights as fireflies and sing , ‘ He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands’ . The show would end with LA Knight and Finn Balór main eventing . Knight being his last opponent and Balór being his first opponent under The Fiend gimmick. Wyatt would be signed to a WWE Legends contract and any merchandise sales would go to his children. In a video on YouTube , wrestlers such as Drew McIntyre, Sami Zayn, Adam Pearce , Bayley , etc would pay tribute to their friend and say how he has impacted them. Other promotions such as AEW and TNA would pay tribute to Wyatt. In April of 2024 , a documentary about Wyatt would be released. On April 5, Wyatt’s father and uncle would be inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame as the tag team , the US Express . They would be inducted with Bray’s ‘ fireflies ’ and his entrance music. Jey Uso would also use the fireflies as his tribute to Wyatt in his entrance . In June of 2024 , as a tribute to his brother , Taylor revived the Uncle Howdy character and formed the Wyatt Sicks alongside Erick Rowan , Dexter Lumis , Nikki Cross , and Joe Gacy. Uncle Howdy will be making his in ring debut on the August 26 episode of Monday Night Raw against Chad Gable.
My Final Thoughts:
Bray Wyatt is a once in a lifetime wrestler. Yes , I’ll admit that he did scare me when I first saw him , however, I became a fan. He made it worth watching . From his in ring work to the Firefly Fun House , he was one of the most creative people I’ve ever seen. Windham , I just wanted to say thank you on behalf everyone who loves you . You would be so proud of Taylor and what he has accomplished with The Wyatt Sicks. I know you will be in the arena with him Monday. We love you and we miss you ! Sending love to the Rotunda family today! I wanted to pay tribute to Windham in my own way, by writing this article.
This article is dedicated to my friend and the biggest Bray Wyatt fan I know , Chris , aka Dump Truck .
Love You All,
- Kay

BRAY WYATT (Born Wyndham Lawrence Rotunda,1987-Died August 24th 2023,at 36.Heart attack).American professional wrestler. He was best known for his tenures in WWE from 2010 to 2021, and then again from 2022 until his death in 2023, where he performed under the ring name Bray Wyatt.
Rotunda was a third-generation professional wrestler, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Blackjack Mulligan, his father Mike Rotunda, and two of his uncles – Barry and Kendall Windham. His younger brother Taylor Rotunda is also a professional wrestler, best known as Bo Dallas. Alongside his brother, he held the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship twice while in WWE's then–developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), where he wrestled under various ring names between 2008 and 2012. He briefly wrestled on WWE's main roster from 2010 to 2011 under the ring name Husky Harris, most notably as a member of The Nexus.
After returning to WWE's developmental territory, which had been rebranded asNXT, Rotunda was repackaged as Bray Wyatt. Portrayed as the villainous leader of The Wyatt Family, a bayou-dwelling cult, he returned to the main roster alongside Wyatt Family members Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in 2013. He subsequently became a three-time world champion in WWE, holding the WWE Championship once and the Universal Championship twice. He also held the SmackDown Tag Team Championship (with Luke Harper and Randy Orton under the Freebird Rule) and the Raw Tag Team Championship (with Matt Hardy) once each.
After a hiatus from August 2018 to April 2019, Wyatt returned with a new gimmick. Portrayed as suffering from a transformative multiple personality disorder, he randomly switched back and forth between two characters: his "good side" of Bray Wyatt, a Mr. Rogers–esque children's TV host, and his bad side of The Fiend, a grotesque horror-themed monster clown. He was released from WWE in July 2021 but returned at Extreme Rules in October 2022, with a new character that claimed to be his "real-life" self but gradually re-incorporated his multiple personalities in addition to some new ones. After one televised match at the 2023 Royal Rumble, he went on a medical hiatus in February due to contracting COVID-19 and died of a heart attack that August.Bray Wyatt - Wikipedia

Fire Fly With Me
“I was the color red in a world full of black and white.”
RIP Windham Rotunda “Bray Wyatt” 1987-2023
This has been a tragic week for wrestling. Yesterday, Terry Funk, a 79 year old second generation legend died. Funk had a 52 year career spanning practically every promotion and continent. A first ballot Hall of Famer in every sense of the word, who even had a little sideline in Hollywood; Terry Funk was an old man who had done everything you can possibly do in wrestling and then much more. He accomplished his goals.
Today, a third generation wrestler, the son of Mike Rotunda, grandson of Blackjack Mulligan, and nephew of Barry Windham; Bray Wyatt passed away. After an electric return last fall it felt like there was either an unclear plan for his run or a creative difference between the performer and management. Following a match that was a neon splattered gimmicky promotion to sell Mountain Dew at the January Royal Rumble; Bray Wyatt once again took his leave. Rumors swirled that there were creative differences, Bray having personal issues, and even one of a prolonged illness. Today Bray Wyatt passed away of a heart attack caused by COVID-19 exacerbating existing heart problems.
Bray Wyatt, and another legacy talent - the son of Mr. Perfect, Joe Hennig made their WWE debut with the very unfortunate and puzzling ring names of “Husky Harris” and “Michael McGillicutty” respectively. The pair floundered after debuting in a big angle and returned to the developmental territories for repackaging.
Rotunda created the character Bray Wyatt, a sort of backwoods cultist who harkened to the character Max Cady in Cape Fear; portrayed by both Robert Mitchum and Robert DeNiro on screen. Wyatt also paid homage in his presentation to another Mitchum character, Reverend Harry Powell from Night of the Hunter. The character was awash in cinema; with his followers reminded attentive fans of The Last House on the Left and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Despite some fans initially heckling the repackaging with chants of “Husky Harris” when he debuted; Wyatt made a splash quickly and very soon erased the perception left by his failed first WWE tenure. Before he even had spent a year in the organization he was poised as the next generation’s supernatural, eerie badass - an elder millennial replacement to the aging, semi-retired Undertaker.
His first Wrestlemania match could not have been bigger for the character. One on one with John Cena at the 30th WrestleMania he was poised to go to the next level. Everything pointed to a Wyatt victory; after defeating The Rock at the most bought WrestleMania ever the previous year it was clear Cena was winding down and leaving his prime. He had one foot out the door for a film and television career and many fans who had grown up cheering his white meat kid friendly act had outgrown Cena.
WrestleMania 30 was held in New Orleans, clearly a town that has more in common with Wyatt than Cena. After an epic entrance with a band of plague doctors playing him to the ring as the crowd held their phone flashlights high the audience sang “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” cheering Wyatt to victory. Inexplicably, Cena defeated the rising star clean in the middle of the ring. This did nothing for Cena’s already sky high profile but did not seem to take all the wind out of Wyatt’s sails.
Wyatt’s popularity persisted and he marched towards a WrestleMania match with The Undertaker the next year. The Undertaker’s WrestleMania win streak had ended the year prior and if there ever was a moment for a changing of the guard it was their match at WrestleMania 31. Instead of holding that torch aloft, Bray looked up at the lights of Levi’s Stadium as The Undertaker pinned him with his signature Tombstone piledriver.
This was not the final resting place of the Wyatt character though, he captured the WWE title in 2017. This unfortunately led to a series of comically awful matches with Randy Orton and a baffling feud and then pairing with Matt Hardy.
It was clear that the character had been derailed by 2018. Wyatt was taken off TV for a prolonged absence; but soon vignettes featuring a corrupted children’s television show of evil puppets began to air. These led to Wyatt returning in a brilliant dual character; the sweater clad children’s entertainer Bray Wyatt; who hosted his Firefly Fun House; an homage to Mr Rogers’s Neighborhood, Blues Clues, and especially Pee Wee’s Playhouse (eerily hosted by the recently passed Paul Reubens.) The show would feature the puppets being sadistic to each other, Bray barely containing his rage and bitterness beneath the calm, sweater-clad veneer he put forth. Bray would work through his personal issues via bizarre skits with his cast of demented puppets. Huskus the Pig Boy was an effigy to his resentments about his debut; Mercy the Buzzard was a sly homage to Dan Spivey’s short lived Waylon Mercy character who was an antecedent of Wyatt. A devil horned muppet version of WWE chairman Vince McMahon would guest on the show.
The sweater barely strait jacked his other personality, The Fiend. A psychopath in a human flesh mask bent on torture and cruelty who could not be stopped inside the ring. The Fiend adopted Mankind’s Mandible Claw as a finisher, itself a reference to killer Samuel Sheppard.
Wyatt’s new character was unstoppable and took the WWE by storm capturing the title and minting money for the company on their merchandise site. Wyatt was back and living up to the promise of his debut. He was headed towards the Undertaker level.
Then in February 2020, in a widely derided decision, The Fiend was soundly beaten by ancient, creaky Goldberg to build to a later canceled match against Roman Reigns that was violently rejected by fans.
In March 2020 the world shut down due to the pandemic. Fans could not attend WrestleMania and we were in for a bizarre and surreal show in an empty soundstage. Wyatt was set for a rematch with John Cena for the show initially set for a football stadium in sunny Tampa Bay. If ever there was a moment for the kind of wrestler that has guitar playing plague doctors set the stage for his entrance, it was now.
The match with Cena was to be a “Firefly Fun House” match. Nobody knew what this entailed. What we were about to witness, is in my opinion, the greatest match of the 2020s. The Firefly Fun House is a beautiful expression of a “post wrestling” era we live in. By 2020 most fans who have been following wrestling for decades pay cursory attention to the modern performers and their storylines and matches in the ring. Backstage drama, old timers sniping at each other on podcasts, fan nostalgia and review shows, and twitter beefs had supplanted modern wrestling to most fans.
In a cinematic match, a new wrestling format that would become a trope of the pandemic era, Bray and the WWE created a surrealist nightmare that had more in common with a David Lynch film than a grappling bout.
Bray had an axe to grind with Cena for his disappointment when Cena poured water on his burning hot career six years earlier in New Orleans. Ever the psychological sadist, Bray crafted a dream logic nightmare for Cena to enter that makes him confront his failures, insecurities, and disappointments just like Wyatt had for Cena-related setbacks going back all the way to 2010.
It also takes us on a tour of wrestling history; using beloved totems of different generations like the “Big Blue” cage and the Smackdown fist to play mind games with us, the fans about why we love this stuff and why we care.
Cena’s iconic theme plays before the empty soundstage to an eerie and uncomfortable silence that does not belong with it. It feels so alien and wrong without explosive dueling boos and cheers. Cena walks out on the stage as a broken montage of WrestleMania 1 clips cut to Bray inside the Firefly Fun House, giving a Rod Serling introduction to the insecurities made manifest within.
“You’re about to face your most dangerous opponent yet, yourself,” Wyatt threatens with unseemly glee. Wyatt departs and Rambling Rabbit points Cena towards Wyatt’s whereabouts.
Cena enters a black room and looks around briefly until a puppet McMahon lays down a gauntlet similar to what he did for Cena way back in 2002. Cena begins on an A Christmas Carol like visit of the ghost of Cena’s past. Wyatt stages a reenactment of Cena’s debut loss to Kurt Angle; which a much older Cena responds to in his rookie ring gear. In keeping with the dream logic Cena is unable to hit Wyatt as he mocks him with a cartoon soundboard and a series of verbal potshots.
Cut to the iconic introduction of Saturday Night’s Main Event in its heyday complete with the classic “Obsession” by Animotion. Wyatt cuts a standard shouting 80s promo behind the big blue cage, introducing Cena as “Johnny Largemeat” - Cena cannot stop curling dumbells and starts maniacally thrashing them until he loses control of his arms.
We then flash to Cena reprising his early freestyle rapper character, who is cursed with a strange form of mutism where he can only speak in raps. Cena attempts to turn the tables on Wyatt verbally; but Wyatt quickly rebuttals him and changes the narrative to remind Cena of those he stepped on climbing the ranks and that it’s lonely at the top. Cena still cannot physically attack Wyatt, and his attempt gets him knocked out.
Cut to a sermonizing Wyatt, regressing to his 2014 form, revisiting the heartbreak of WrestleMania 30.
Wyatt taunts Cena to hit him with a chair, he’s unable to.
Cut to Cena and Wyatt in nWo t shirts and black jeans, a visual even more bizarre than Cena’s grand WrestleMania entrance on an empty soundstage. Cena can finally attack Wyatt and tackles him and brutalizes him with punches, until Wyatt is replaced with the Huskus puppet.
The Fiend appears in the ring, materializing behind Cena to deliver the mandible claw. The Fiend pins Cena as we show sweater Bray gleefully counting the pinfall, Did Bray right his wrong? Was Cena swayed to some sort of dark side - there are moments where it feels like Cena has become the alternate Dale Coopers from Twin Peaks The Return with character flourishes akin to the evil “Coop” and the strange, simple “Dougie.”
There is so much packed into the editing and storytelling of this match that I could not possibly do it justice. When everything has been done that you can do in a wrestling match - what’s next? Instead of a wrestling match where you wrestle, hold a “wrestling match” about wrestling.
Elvis Costello once quipped that writing about music was like dancing about architecture. I assume he doesn’t own any 33 1/3 books.
A wrestling match that replaces contesting wrestling with being about wrestling was perfect for the turn of this new decade and many years of fan ennui. At a time where fans are more curious about all the things that happen outside of the squared circle that lead to the action inside it, it fulfilled a need we didn’t know we had. I recommend giving this, alongside the excellent Wyatt Family vs The Shield bout from Elimination Chamber 2014 where you also see Wyatt’s partner Luke Harper, aka Brodie Lee in action. Wyatt is pre deceased by Harper.
Sadly, that was about the peak of The Fiend character. An ill fated partnership with Alexa Bliss that never quite struck the right tone was a miss during the empty arena era. At WrestleMania 37, the first show in a year before live fans, The Fiend lost to Randy Orton in a match that was widely panned. The two third generation stars had a toxic anti-chemistry with each other and WWE kept returning to the pairing for reasons that feel like sabotage in hindsight. Wyatt was off TV for several months and shockingly released outright in the summer of that year.
After a prolonged absence and various hints at a comeback; Wyatt returned last fall at Extreme Rules in a thrilling segment to an explosive response. Sadly, the creative direction for Wyatt never found its legs. Behind the scenes it’s unclear if there was a creative struggle before Wyatt fell ill.
Bray was supposed to be the next Undertaker, and he wasn’t. He was the first, the only, and the inimitable Bray Wyatt. A backwoods preacher of doom and mayhem, a sadistic Ed Gein type killer, and a smiling, laughing, but unhinged children’s TV host. Already having demonstrated a knack for reinvention, Bray could have been many more things. He will have to be those in the imagination of the fans now.
What he did leave was important and memorable. I believe he had a Hall of Fame career, and though that claim may be controversial and contentious; that is the nature of the Wyatt character. He may have been polarizing, but everyone had an opinion on him, and not indifference; and I know wrestling fans universally feel like wrestling is suffering a tremendous loss. Even if he didn’t do something that connected with your tastes, he had something in his bag of tricks that would some day.
So smash your flashlight button one last time for Bray Wyatt and hold it up high. As the Undertaker himself would say, Rest In Peace.

The owner of Poundland has agreed to take on the leases of dozens of Wilko shops.
Pepco Group, which owns Poundland in the UK, is expected to convert up to 71 Wilko stores to the Poundland brand.
Poundland boss Barry Williams said it recognised the last few weeks had been difficult for Wilko workers.
In a statement, the company said that Wilko staff would have priority when applying for new jobs at the Poundland shops.
Wilko fell into administration in August as it struggled with sharp losses and a cash shortage.
It was founded in 1930 and by the 1990s became one of Britain’s fastest-growing retailers.
But the discount chain has faced strong competition from competitors including B&M, Poundland and Home Bargains, as the high cost of living has pushed shoppers to seek out bargains.
The first shop closures are taking place on Tuesday after administrators PwC failed to find a buyer for the bulk of the business.
What went wrong at Wilko?
B&M buys up to 51 stores from collapsed rival Wilko
Mr Williams, the managing director of Poundland, said the company it would work quickly with landlords in the coming weeks to get its new shops open once the administration process is wound up.
It said that the announcement would mark some “positive news for customers and those high streets that faced the loss of an important retailer”.
Rival B&M has also agreed to buy 51 of Wilko’s buildings in a £13m deal, but it is understood the stores will not be run under the Wilko brand.
The 71 shops included in the deal with Pepco and the 51 stores taken on by B&M currently employ about 3,200 Wilko workers.
In a statement, the Poundland owner said that it expected the rebranded shops to open in the last few months of this year, although workers will not be transferred directly.
The deal will see the sites added to its 800 existing shops in the UK. The 71 store locations are:
Aberdare, Alfreton, Alnwick, Altrincham, Ammanford, Ashby, Barking, Bedminster, Beeston, Bicester, Bishop Stortford, Bletchley, Bolton, Brentwood, Brigg, Cambridge, Chepstow, Coalville, Cramlington, Droitwich, Eccles, Edmonton Green, Ellesmere Port, Ferndown, Gateshead, Grays, Greenock, Grimsby, Havant, Hayes, Headingley, Hessle Road – Hull, Hillsborough, Hitchin, Jarrow, Killingworth, Kimberley, Lee Circle, Leek, Leigh, Lichfield, Maidenhead, Matlock, Melton Mowbray, Nelson, Northallerton, Orton, Pembroke Dock, Peterlee, Pontefract, Pontypool, Redhill, Redruth, Ripley, Rugeley, Sale, Seaham, Selly Oak, Shrewsbury Darwin Centre, South Shields, Southport, Stafford, Stamford, Stockport, Thornaby, Wellington, Wembley, West Ealing, Wombwell, Worcester and Worksop, where Wilko’s head office is located.
Pepco Group also owns other discount retailers, such as Dealz in Ireland and Poland.
It comes after administrators confirmed the group’s remaining shops, warehouse and support centre workers are set to lose their jobs after a rescue bid by Canadian entrepreneur Doug Putman failed.
The billionaire owner of music retailer HMV had been trying to buy at least 100 Wilko shops but the deal fell through as rising costs complicated the deal.
Administrators said that they were confident the Poundland deal would “create a platform for future employment opportunities” for Wilko employees.
Edward Williams, joint administrator at PwC, said: “We will continue to engage with other retailers around any interest in other Wilko sites and are confident of completing a sale of the brand and intellectual property within the coming days.”
Several other retailers and investors have reportedly been in talks with PwC about potentially buying the Wilko brand and website.

PAUL: “I don’t remember the breakup [with Jane Asher] as being traumatic, really. I remember more one time when she was working at the Bristol Old Vic and she’d got a boyfriend in Bristol and was going to leave me for him. That was wildly traumatic, that was ‘Uhhhh!’ Total rejection! We got back together again but I had already gone through that when we eventually split up. It seemed it had to happen. It felt right. “I liked her a lot and we got on very well. She was a very intelligent and very interesting person, but I just never clicked. “One of those indefinable things about love is some people you click with and some people who you should maybe click with, you don’t. Whatever.” Marianne Faithfull, however, never felt the relationship was a lasting one: “I never remember them getting on very well, Jane and him, it was sort of like an act almost, and I can quite see that he would be much happier with Linda because with Jane it would have been very difficult. And quite soon after that they split up, which of course I could have told anyone they would.” Paul: “I got cold feet. It was that, and a few other personal things.”
