What is Gold Timberline Mulch?

Tumblr media
The Benefits Of Gold Timberline Mulch:
Weed Suppression: It acts as a natural barrier, preventing weed growth in your garden beds. By inhibiting weed germination and growth, it reduces the need for manual weeding and helps maintain a clean and well-maintained garden.
Moisture Retention: One of the significant advantages of using this Mulch is its ability to retain moisture in the soil. It acts as a protective layer, reducing evaporation and helping the soil stay moist for longer periods. This is especially beneficial during hot summer months or in regions with dry climates.
Temperature Regulation: It acts as an insulating layer, protecting plant roots from extreme temperature fluctuations. It keeps the soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, creating a more stable environment for plants to thrive.
Enhancing Garden Aesthetics:
Visual Appeal: The rich golden color of Gold Timberline adds an instant visual appeal to any garden. Whether you have vibrant flowers, lush greenery, or architectural plants, the contrast provided by the golden mulch creates a stunning backdrop, making your plants stand out.
Uniformity And Cleanliness: By applying a layer of Gold Mulch, you can achieve a uniform look throughout your garden. It covers any exposed soil, providing a clean and polished appearance. Additionally, the mulch prevents soil erosion, keeping your garden beds intact and tidy.
Best Practices For Using Gold Timberline Mulch:
Preparation: Before applying It, clear the garden beds of any existing weeds or debris. It is also recommended to add a layer of organic compost or fertilizer to provide additional nutrients to the soil.
Thickness: Apply a layer of Timberline Mulch that is about 2–3 inches thick. This thickness allows for proper moisture retention and weed suppression while still allowing air circulation to the plant roots.
Mulch Maintenance: Regularly check and replenish the mulch layer as needed, especially after heavy rain or wind. Maintaining an adequate mulch layer ensures that your garden continues to receive the full benefits of Gold Mulch.
Conclusion Garden Mulch is a valuable asset for gardeners looking to enhance the beauty and health of their outdoor spaces. With its weed-suppressing qualities, moisture retention abilities, and visual appeal, it provides a multitude of benefits for your garden beds. By following the best practices for its application and maintenance, you can enjoy a vibrant and well-maintained garden all year round.

Okay, today I got up early (cause setting my alarm ain't no thang anymore) to talk to a landscaper about tilling up and leveling the lower backyard, then I finished distributing the last of the medium hemlock mulch, went back to the landscaping yard and got half a yard of bark nuggets, distributed them as a durable top layer around trees, and assembled maybe half the weight bench before it got too dark

Revamp Your Garden: Unlock the Magic of Decorative Bark and Elite Landscaping Services in West Auckland
Introduction
Transforming your garden into a breathtaking sanctuary involves a blend of creativity, quality materials, and expert craftsmanship. In West Auckland, homeowners have access to top-notch landscaping services and an array of premium Auckland landscape supplies. This article explores how decorative bark, including red decorative bark and decorative bark chips, can enhance your garden, and how the best landscapers in West Auckland can bring your garden vision to life.
Understanding Decorative Bark
What is Decorative Bark?
Decorative bark is a versatile landscaping material used to enhance the aesthetic appeal of garden spaces. It comes in various forms, including shredded bark, chips, and nuggets, each offering different visual and functional benefits. Its primary role is to add a finishing touch to garden beds, paths, and around trees and shrubs.
Types of Decorative Bark
Red Decorative Bark
Red decorative bark is a popular choice for creating a striking visual contrast in gardens. Its vibrant hue can make garden features stand out and add warmth to the landscape. It’s especially effective when used in areas where you want to draw attention or create focal points.
Decorative Bark Chips
Decorative bark chips are versatile and durable, making them an excellent choice for various landscaping applications. They provide a uniform look and can be used on pathways, around plants, or as ground cover. Their natural appearance blends seamlessly with different garden styles.
Benefits of Decorative Bark
Moisture Retention
One of the key advantages of decorative bark is its ability to retain soil moisture. By covering the soil, it reduces evaporation, which helps maintain consistent moisture levels for plants. This is particularly beneficial during dry periods.
Weed Suppression
Decorative bark acts as a natural barrier to weed growth. By preventing sunlight from reaching the soil surface, it inhibits weed seeds from germinating, reducing the need for manual weeding and chemical herbicides.
Soil Insulation
Another benefit is its insulating properties. Decorative bark helps regulate soil temperature, protecting plant roots from extreme heat and cold. This creates a more stable environment for plant growth throughout the seasons.
Incorporating Decorative Bark into Your Garden Design
Creating Garden Borders
Using decorative bark to outline garden beds or pathways can create clean, defined edges. This not only enhances the overall appearance but also helps in preventing soil erosion and maintaining garden structure.
Enhancing Plant Bases
Placing decorative bark around the bases of plants and trees adds a finished look and helps in controlling weeds. It also provides a contrasting background that can highlight the plants and improve their visibility.
Designing Pathways and Walkways
Decorative bark chips can be used to create attractive and functional pathways. They offer a natural and rustic appearance while providing a soft, comfortable surface for walking.

how about leo comforting his s/o after a nightmare?
The ground shook violently beneath me before splintering open with the crack of a whip, revealing the hellish landscape awaiting underneath. The fire, the screams, it all reaches me and I feel my heart racing a hundred miles a minute. I’m falling, I’m flying, I don’t know where this is going and all I can do is scream the loudest I can. My dream fills me with emotions I cannot hold within and I find myself waking in a wild sweat that leaves me shaking.
My teary eyes pan through the darkness of my cabin. With only the torch lights gently flickering outside to illuminate the room, I sit up, still shaking and breathing like I had just lived that dream. I looked around the room to see my brothers and sisters were still sleeping soundly. Unaware of the terror I just dreamt and it made me feel all the ever lonelier. I’m about to sob when I looked out the window to see cabin nine, Leo’s cabin.
How much I’d give to feel his warm arms around me right now, I was shaking badly and having a hard time to breathe. I needed it so much that I began to cry. As I choked back my empty sobs, I saw one of the patrolling dryads pass by my cabin. She circles around the structure as respectfully as she can, her bark-like skin is much more pliable than it looks when she uses it to lean over and check every crevice. With her inspection done, she moves on to the next while I watch her in deep thought.
“I can run for it.” I whispered while tracking her movements. “I can… go there really quick, I’m sure Leo wouldn’t mind. I-I’ll bring an offering to Hephaestus so he won’t be so angry… I…”
I sounded like I was crazy! Did I want to be turned into a shrub for a whole week? Dionysus would pick elderberries off my head for his own enjoyment and I don’t even want to know what kind of insects might crawl on my branches while I’m reconstructed. I held my arms tighter, I’ll go very quickly. No one would notice a thing. I’ll be back before dawn and none of the other Hephaestus campers would realize what happened.
Packing my bags as shakily as I can, I gripped the iron nugget I had taken from arts and crafts and climbed out of my window, falling ungracefully onto the floor below. I scurried to hide behind a tree before the dryad noticed me. I was done for. I am 100% a fried nugget and I’m going to be toast for a whole week! When I was sure the dryad didn’t notice my clumsy fall, I dipped behind some of the other buildings, being sure not to touch any of them in respect to the gods.
I was now directly across from cabin nine and all that’s left is to run across the campfire to the open window leading into the cabin. Holding my breath, I spirited as fast as I could before tripping over a rock left behind during the sing along campfire and fell face flat next to Hestia’s hearth.
I scampered as fast as I could to regain my composure and when the dryad turned around to face me, the flames suddenly grew higher. Almost like the kind hearted Hestia was shielding my view from the century old dryad, rooting for me to finish my adventure. I thanked the Goddess and ran as fast as I could to the open window of Hephaestus’ cabin. I had to be quick, I placed the iron nugget at the base of the steps to speak a low prayer in reverence to the God Hephaestus, and without any time to hesitate I jumped into the window, pulling myself up and rolling into the cabin head first.
My head lands on the hard steel floor, rewarding a groan out of my throat as I wobble back to stand. I carefully took the time to adjust to the darkness in the cabin, before sneaking my way into the bunking area to look for Leo. All the Hephaestus kids were big and burly, it was only my love who sported a thin small frame. I used this knowledge to look everywhere I could for him. But... He wasn’t here? Not sure of what to think, I headed further into the cabin and found the furnace area. It still smelled of soot and sulphur, but I saw someone laying atop a sacked makeshift bed.
My eyes began to water and I knew immediately that it was my beloved.
I ran to his sleeping form, wrapping my arms around his shoulders before letting the first of my tears stain him. Crying into the hollow of his chest, all the fear I had bottled up earlier from my dream poured into his shirt. I was making a mess but I was too far broken to care about that. He didn’t need to wake up, this was all I needed to live. Regardless however, I felt him wake to me. He made a sound of confusion, but suddenly stroked my hair with his hand.
“Y/N? What… What are you doing here?” Leo asked, still confused and trying to sit up. I released him and he immediately looked outside to see what time it was. It was still night, a total violation of the rules and I knew if he wanted to send me away... I would go.
“I had a horrible dream. There was an earthquake and the floor opened up for Tartarus, and- and-”  I was crying but he came out to stroke my tears away. Pulling my shaking body into his. I hugged him again and cried like I had been struck with grief. He kissed my hair, rubbing the back of my shoulders to calm me down, laughing about how he smelled awful compared to me.
I returned the joke pathetically in an attempt to absorb the new aura I was feeling. I was in an awful state and as soon as I took as much strength I could from him, I felt embarrassed about my midnight rendezvous. I risked his safety for a dumb nightmare, I was acting selfish and this pulled me away from him.
“I’m sorry, Leo, I should get back to my cabin. I feel so much better now.” but he came back to pull me under him.
He kissed me over and over again. I felt overwhelmed but at the same time, I sensed him taking all my insecurities away with every press of his finely crafted lips. He wasn’t going to let me go feeling like I meant nothing to him, he wanted me to know he was worried and I drank it like nectar to my wounds.
“Pollita, you’re going to stay with me tonight. So let me make the sack a little more comfortable.” He laughed, moving away and pushing together a few more crates to make the “bed” bigger.
“Why are you sleeping on this? Don’t you have a bed?” I asked brushing my swollen freshly kissed-lips, watching him craft this strange cot. He looked up to smile at me, his grin making my ears red in wonder at his incredibly crafty ways.
“I do, but my siblings snore too loudly so I sleep over here instead.” He laughed, jumping onto the new bedding and giving me the most comfortable pillow.
I laid next to him and he kissed my forehead again. It caused me to giggle but when he kissed my eyes, I felt the sting of swelling my crying had done to them. I pressed against him and he wrapped his arms around me. Asking me to tell him the dream again so he can better understand it. I did… and I no longer felt scared this time.
“If you were to fall into Tartarus, I think I would jump in after you.” He spoke nonchalantly.
“No you wouldn’t!” It sounded almost like a threat when it came out of me, but I meant it to keep him from doing anything stupid. He paused for a second, thinking more about the scenario before he looked me directly in the eyes.
“I would jump into Tartarus after you.” He wasn’t joking and I wasn’t going to dispute it this time.
I kissed his lips again and listened to all the mechanics of the smelting room we were sleeping in. His voice vibrating the hollowness of his chest, it lulled me to sleep and I cradled against him in blissful happiness. I spent all night with him like this, lost in the regale of his upcoming projects and meticular designs. But when I woke the next morning… I wasn’t myself…. LITERALLY….
I was a chipmunk and Dionysus was leaning over me with a cage in his hands. I was going to stay this way for the rest of the week, but at least he let me stay in the Hephaestus cabin for the remainder of my curse-bound sentence. I got to watch Leo smelt and work on his many projects. He talked to me nearly every second of the day and would let me sit in his bag while participating in various events.
I consider this a blessing.

"Well," said Dan. "We're here." He dropped his guitar to the ground and glanced around. He and Phil had finished walking three entire metres of lumpy ground across Hell's surface and now Denny's stood before them in all its glory.
"Pancakes," said Phil, tearing up as he gazed lovingly at Denny's. The heat in the air around them immediately evaporated the tears.
It was extremely dry here. Dan's lips had never been more chapped.
"Fuck yeah pancakes," Dan agreed. Sometimes he wished Phil could say something other than 'pancakes.' Their method of communication was Dan attempting to find the meaning in his intonations and enunciations of the single word. This time, though, Phil actually meant pancakes.
Dan sighed and picked up the guitar again. It had gained twelve kilograms when he had set it down. It was his most beloved possession here in the Underworld. He did not know how to play the guitar.
A loud wailing sound warbled across their twisted surroundings. Dan and Phil both glanced up first, on instinct, then around. The warped landscape was almost indistinguishable by thick fog, with burnt, twisted trees and jagged rocks every few steps. Dan and Phil had just travelled from the small convenience store about three metres away. It had been a long and arduous journey, though they had no way of telling how long it had taken. Time wasn't real here.
The warbling sound came again. "Pancakes," Phil said sadly. Dan nodded hastily in agreement and they hurried forward toward the door to Denny's. As they grew closer, the restaurant's sign out front shimmered and changed, revealing a new sign underneath.
"Pancakes?" said Phil in a horrified voice.
The door to the restaurant flew open. A pale, shirtless probably-person hurtled through, then drew up short when he saw Dan and Phil. He threw up one hand, aiming the device in it at them as his face twisted into resignation. He didn't want to be here any more than anyone else in Hell did.
"Oh, no," said Dan, with dawning realization.
Phil tried to turn and run, but it was too late.
"Hi, welcome to Chili's."
~~
It was later, probably. Dan and Phil trekked across the lumpy, scorched ground, sweating and huffing. This exercise was…hell.
A poodle in a too-large hot dog suit sprinted past them, barking angrily for no apparent reason. Dan belatedly stretched a hand after it. "Noo, come back, I wanna pet," he whined.
"Pancakes," said Phil musingly.
"Huh. It is weird that a dog is in Hell." Dan frowned after the vanishing white, tan, and yellow figure. "Hey! What'd you do to end up down here?"
The dog, rudely, did not answer. It vanished into the mist, becoming a fog dog.
Somewhere on their left, there was a party going on. Dan and Phil were avoiding it. They did not like parties. Hell parties were even worse - all of the best party people had made their way down here at some point or the other. So technically the parties were the best, but to Dan and Phil it made them worse.
They didn't have a choice, though. Hell decided what they were to do. No matter how far they walked, the landscape shifted around them until they were headed straight at the party again.
~~
It was later again. Dan and Phil decided to go to the party now. Dan's legs felt like they were about to fall off from all the walking they had been doing. He didn't want to go through that again.
"We don't have to go into the party," Dan tried to reason. "We can just go to the edge and not go inside."
"Pancakes," Phil agreed reluctantly, so they gave up and kept walking the way they'd been going. Soon they reached the party.
"Hello-o-o," sang a woman as they approached.
"Aww, Adele," Dan said mournfully. "How'd you get down here?"
"It's me," she agreed, still singing. Tear tracks were old on her cheeks.
Phil patted her shoulder sympathetically as they walked past. People danced helplessly in neon colours and blaring lights. Someone was lying prostrate on the ground, their left leg sliding sideways every few seconds and tripping the dancers. They would fall and immediately pick themselves back up, flailing uncontrollably.
Dan and Phil steered clear of the dancers, heading for the food tables. Once caught up in the dance, no one escaped until the party ended.
The parties rarely ended.
Not that the food tables were much better. They only had chicken nuggets. The only food in Hell was chicken nuggets - the fake, processed kind - unless one could find a Denny's.
No one ever found a Denny's.
Dan and Phil stopped by the food tables, glancing over them uselessly. "If there were even some dips," Dan complained.
There were never any dips.
"Pancakes," Phil said. He picked up a chicken nugget and regarded it for a moment, then silently put it back down.
Phil never ate.
"Well, I think we've been here long enough," Dan declared. Phil nodded firmly. They went past the food tables and set off into the barren Hell again, vainly searching for a way out.
They never would.

Title: To Hold A Wolf By The Ears
Fandom: Dominion
Pairing: Michael x reader, Michael & Gabriel
Rating/Warning: Mature (depictions of violence, death, etc)
Summary: When you don't show up to William's chapel service, Michael knows, and feels, something is amiss.
A/N: this is a repost because Tumblr ate the original :(
With the thunderous crack of concrete, Michael landed in a dingy parking lot miles from any of the settlements in the Cradle, a group of eight-balls scattering. Before leaving Vega, William had noticed your disappearance in the face of the service he'd planned - which wasn't all that unusual - and mentioned this to Sergeant Lannon, who then relayed this nugget of information to the archangel. The angel had tracked you to this location, further convinced you'd come across trouble when he'd discovered the remains of a stolen truck belonging to the Archangel Corps.
His blue eyes narrowed, withdrawing his swords from his coat, becoming a whirlwind of metal and feathers. Red misted the air, turned burnt orange by the setting sun. Convulsions and wet gurgling followed, many sightless eyes staring into a darkening, multicolored sky. A scream shattered his concentration, spying two possessed dragging an injured, bloodied body towards the back of a shipping truck. In a single fluid motion, he threw shards of glass from a shattered windshield, spearing several through their necks. With horrible shrieks in broken lishepus, the rest swarmed towards him, a wave of bodies so thick no light could be seen.
"Michael! Michael, no!" You cried, watching helplessly as the angel was dogpiled from all sides. If you hadn't snuck out of Vega, this wouldn't have happened! Tears streamed down your cheeks, twisting against your bonds, crying until your voice was hoarse. Minutes passed, feeling like an eternity, your heart sinking as it seemed Michael had been done in by sheer numbers.
"Shut it!" Their leader barked, whipping you across your temple with the butt of his weapon. Signalling for another to shove your unconscious body into the bed, he gave the scene a once-over. The humid air reeked of rot and copper, eviscerated flesh dotting the landscape, a gory reminder of just how deadly archangels could be.
▪■◇■▪
Vultures and other carrion-birds circled overhead, casting long shadows. The landscape transformed as dusk faded, bruised and blackened, Vegas' lights like a ship on the horizon. Crows called their brethren near, landing on bodies strewn about. One hopped close, head tilting and flapping nervously. Spooked by movement, it flew off.
Sleek black feathers burst from a pile of corpses, their owner struggling to climb free. Michael rose, covered in dirt and blood with vengeful fury etched into his features. His anger was short-lived, breaking out in a fit of coughing, smoke clouding the air. Squinting, he could just make out a figure reclining across weed-knotted tires, tossing an apple between their hands.
"Gabriel."
His other half paused, catching the fruit to take a hearty bite, juice dribbling down his stubbled chin. "Took you long enough," he mused, chewing thoughtfully between words. "They've taken your lover captive. For what nefarious purpose, I haven't a clue."
"I'm aware." Michael replied tersely, wiping dried blood from his cheek onto his coat sleeve. His swords hissed as he slid them back in his belt, both stuck in shallow dirt nearby. Gabriel gave him a sharp, mischevious smile, throwing the core over his shoulder. "You don't sound concerned."
With his arms folded, the dark-haired angel gave his twin a serious, scathing look. "Since Father abandoned us, I realized that no amount of training with Alex, combat or otherwise, was going to fill the yawning emptiness in my chest. While spending time with them, I noticed the way they cared, the way they loved and brought smiles to the faces of others...it was like I had been made whole again."
Brushing grasses from his pants as he stood, Gabriel's expression shifted to soured disdain. "And you're pouring your feelings out to me because—? Ah, I see. The great and powerful archangel Michael needs my help now, does he?"
Michael exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose, eyes slipping closed. His jaw clenched. Staying his hand with his sibling would prove harder than he'd thought. "Will you go with me?"
Fingers tapping the end of the hilt hanging from his belt, Gabriel considered his brother's proposition. Fighting on the same side, just to rescue a fancied lover? Could he really look past the jealousy and scorn he had for humanity to help?
Unleashing their wrath on the weaker angels sounded far better. He was no stranger to bloodshed and violence, recalling snippets of Sodom and Gomorrah. Having a little fun wouldn't hurt, and maybe he'd even take their heads back to the aerie. Putt them off the side of the mountain.
"Will that be as my ally?" He quipped, sliding a hip flask from his belt for a swig. His gaze cut to the other man, drink burning as it went down. "Or enemy?"
Knocking the container from his brother's hand, Michael withdrew his blade to press it against Gabriel's throat. One set of blue eyes widened, hands half-raised with palms facing out. The other set turned hard, expression darkening. Michael's wings unfurled, arched and ready to strike if need be. "If you harm, or even think of harming them, I will kill you."
"Noted," Gabriel muttered, glancing towards his flask, dark amber contents soaking into the sun-warmed earth between their boots. His lips twitched, plastering on a smile. "Could you at least let me finish before threatening to stick me with the sharp end?"
Michael didn't let up. Instead, he repeated the action, giving a pointed look with raised brows. "Are you in agreement, then?"
"Since you have such an unhealthy obsession with these humans," Gabriel then rocked back on his heels, grin twisting as he chewed his bottom lip. His body language indicated indecisiveness, but something reluctantly won over. Hooking his thumbs on his belt, his cheeks blew outwards. "Yes. I suppose." Wings manifesting, they flapped once or twice, stirring debris into a small tornado.
Satisfied, Michael withdrew, launching himself from bent knees. Assisted by updrafts, he spiralled higher, blending in with the silver-speckled evening sky. Gabriel followed suit after a short sprint, powerful wingbeats letting him catch up.

Coldflash - “Far from Helpful” (Rated PG13)
After a blast meant for Leonard Snart knocks Barry out cold and wipes his memory, Len follows the team back to STAR Labs to make sure he's alright. Of course, not being entirely welcome, he has to sneak in. But after one small slip of the tongue, Len might find himself watching over Barry permanently. (2359 words)
Written for @sparroet
Notes:  This is the first iteration of the story I wrote for @coldflashweeks Valentine’s exchange 2019 prompt - Barry suffers a permanent injury that affects his work as Flash and Len helps him to work out where to go next. Warning for a serious injury involving blood.
Read on AO3.
“Hey, Red. I’m telling ya, we have to stop meeting like this,” Len says in a low voice, gruff from barking orders that didn’t matter worth dick since no one listened to him anyway. If they had, maybe Barry wouldn’t be lying on a gurney down in the med center of STAR Labs, slipping in and out of consciousness.
Maybe he wouldn’t have had the ever-loving shit beat out of him … again. Even the fights Barry does win usually end up with him getting bashed in the head or kicked in the stomach.
Just because he has the power to super heal doesn’t erase the fact that Barry Allen gets beat up a lot.
Len is also a bit worse for the wear – a gash on his right cheek that might require stitches, a blackened left eye, an arm he’d thought was broken wrapped tight in an ACE bandage. But that’s nothing compared to what happened to Barry – slammed in the gut by a high-intensity photon blast that was meant for Len and thrown over two hundred feet straight up. Had Barry come back down the way he went, Len might have been able to break his fall, plus his whole body in the process. But Barry had traveled, and Len abandoned the fight, abandoned his team, to go on the search. Halfway out of town, Len found Barry skewered on an iron fence post, the spear-like tip protruding from his chest and covered in blood. When Len saw him - bent impossibly backward with arms and legs limp - his heart stopped.
He thought his boy was dead this time for sure.
Then along came Cisco and Caitlin, and boy, do they have a convenient sense of timing. They had nothing to do with Len finding Barry, but they sure did rush in and scoop him up as if he was theirs and theirs alone. They barely gave Len a thank you, barely looked him in the eyes.
When it comes to him, Len has discovered, even when he’s fighting on their side, they don’t consider him on their side.
Perhaps that’s the way it should stay.
Caitlin did take a second to check out Len’s arm and wrap it up, but that was a consolation prize. A token.
The literal least they could do.
But it was also a message. In their eyes, it made them square. Now Len’s job was over, and it would be best for everyone if he stepped back and left Barry alone.
Right. Like that was going to happen.
Caitlin and Cisco packed Barry up in their ‘Flash-mobile’ and left Len alone out in the middle of nowhere, probably all sorts of assured that he wouldn’t make it back to STAR Labs anytime soon.
And, as usual, they were wrong.
Not only was he fifteen minutes behind them the whole time thanks to his newest acquisition – a beat-up old Indian motorcycle he’d spied quietly rusting in an otherwise vacant driveway on his way out of town – but he’d managed to let himself into STAR Labs super slick and steal away into Barry’s room the second the Wonder Twins ducked out. Sure they’ll be watching Barry like a hawk so of course they’ll find him, but now that he’s in, he’d like to see them try and kick him out.
Len gives Barry a once over, head shaking with disgust and disappointment.
And guilt.
Barry looks okay. Aside from a few scratches, he’s the same as always … on the outside. From what Len could make out while Caitlin and Cisco were talking, the blast scrambled Barry’s brain like an omelet, hence his constant waking up and knocking out. From the times they were able to talk to him, Barry didn’t know his name, didn’t know where he was, who they were, or that he was The Flash. They hooked him up to a dozen or so machines monitoring his brain waves, his temporal lobes and whatnot, but when he finally comes to for longer than a minute, they have no idea what he’ll remember.
Or if the memories he’s lost will ever come back.
They also can’t tell with absolute certainty if Barry is still a meta. The blast doesn’t appear to have eliminated his power to heal, but it slowed it to a crawl. Hence why he’s down here while the net that is the Speed Force sews him back together, albeit at an infuriating rate.
And why it hasn’t worked on his brain? That’s another mystery altogether.
Len moves sections of Barry’s blankets aside to assess the damage for himself. Large hematomas mar Barry’s skin like a battle-scarred landscape. Len’s gaze falls on the blood-stained bandages covering the hole in Barry’s chest and sucks a breath in through his teeth. By rights, any man who sustained an injury like that should be dead. Since that blast was aimed at Len, that means he should be dead right now – dead and gone while a still young and vibrant Barry Allen mourns for all of fifteen minutes the twisted, dysfunctional non-relationship they have, one where Barry constantly reminds Len that there’s good in him as if that means something, and Len spends his nights seething because the good Len wants inside of him is Barry.
“Jesus Christ, you know, you gotta stop taking the blows that I’m supposed to take. When it’s my time, it’s my time. Nothing you can do is going to change that, Red, no matter how good you think I am.”
“Wh-why … do you keep calling me … Red?” a gravelly voice struggles with as Barry turns his head to look Len’s way.
Len shrugs, taking a seat in the chair beside Barry so he won’t have to move anymore. “It’s just a nickname I have for you. That’s all.”
Barry relaxes back into his pillow now that the object of his attention has conveniently moved into view. Eyelids narrowed, he stares at Len, soaking in the particulars of the man in front of him. “Who ... who are you?”
“Who do you think I am?”
“I … I don’t know, but … you seem so familiar.”
“I should. I’m your husband,” Len teases without thinking, sarcasm stepping in when the alternative means revealing too much at an inconvenient time. Why not? It breaks the tension. Barry is more than likely not going to remember this conversation. Besides, Len is dying to see the look on the kid’s face as he tries to comprehend that this tired, filthy, broken old man is his spouse.
And Barry doesn’t disappoint. His head jerks back a hair. His eyes widen. His jaw works around wordless questions.
In short, he looks thoroughly confused by life.
“You … you are?”
“Yup.”
“But … but the doctors that were in here … they didn’t tell me.”
Len pats Barry’s hand. “They don’t like me. I sometimes think they’d like to forget I exist.”
“Oh …” Barry’s eyes dart back and forth, scanning his brain for any nugget of a sliver of a memory of him being married to the man sitting in the chair next to him. Several long seconds tick by. Len watches Barry’s face with an intense curiosity and mild amusement, waiting for his inevitable surrender back into unconsciousness that will herald the end of this charade. Then Len will sit and guard over Barry for as long as he can before his obnoxious wardens return. But Barry doesn’t surrender to sleep. He smiles, an unexpected realization overwhelming him that adds color to his pale cheeks and light to his blank-slate eyes. “Oh … my God! We’re … we’re married?” Barry laughs before Len has a chance to answer. “Wh-what … what lottery did I win to get you?”
A vision of the fight they were in not two hours ago rolls through Len’s brain, how Barry got hit, then flew so hard he blinked out of sight like a cartoon character.
“Let’s just say I swept you off your feet.”
“I thought … I thought it was a dream …” Barry continues. “I didn’t think it could be real.”
Len chuckles, assuming Barry is thinking of that same take-off moment, until he keeps going.
And then Len’s heart stops a second, longer time.
“We met in a theater … didn’t we?”
“I guess you can say that.”
“We had a wedding on the beach … and our honeymoon … camping at the Grand Canyon …” A spark twinkles in Barry’s eyes that Len has never seen. It’s not the lightning that lives inside him, that erupts to mirror his emotions. It’s different – just as supernatural, but more inexplicable. It sends chills down Len’s spine, and that’s something that doesn’t happen too often.
“Ho---honeymoon?” Len’s legs go numb. He turns at the waist, looking for a place to sit until it dawns on him that he’s sitting already.
“Yeah.” Barry’s smile grows and takes a bashful twist. “You and me in a two-person tent on the South Rim, drinking champagne and watching the sun set …”
Voices echo in the hallway. Urgent voices. More than just Cisco and Caitlin. It sounds like Joe might be with them, along with a few other members of the CCPD. Len doesn’t hear what they say, but he has his suspicions that they’re talking about him.
“Shoot!” Len hisses, wishing the oncoming invasion could take a powder for about five minutes so that Barry can finish telling him about that honeymoon. From the shade of red Barry’s cheeks have become, it must have been good. But it would probably be a good idea if he retreats to his favorite air vent for the time being. “Look, kid, I’m going to have to …” He springs out of his seat but Barry grabs his hand with a speed that confirms that yes, he definitely still is a meta.
“Wait, what are you doing? Where are you going?”
“I need to bow out for a minute. But don’t worry. I won’t go too far.”
“Go? What … no! Don’t don’t leave! Please?”
The voices become louder, accompanied by hurried footsteps, and Len curses under his breath. Before this little adventure began, weren’t they all allies? On a temporary basis, but playing on the same team? “Barry, I’m sorry, but I have to.”
“Why!?”
Len looks into Barry’s pleading eyes and sighs. Yup, leave it to him to take a joke too far, and now here he is - married to The Flash and sixty seconds away from being locked behind bars.
“Remember those doctors I said don’t like me?”
“Yeah?”
“Well, they’re coming back, and from the sounds of it, they’re bringing the police.”
“But, why does that matter?” Barry scans the room, searching frantically for help. “You’re ... you’re my husband!”
“They may not see it that way.”
“I’ll make them see! Just … wait here and we’ll get this straightened out. Please? Please stay?”
Len opens his mouth, but even though he has to, he can’t say no. He shakes his head, taking a step away, and Barry goes into full blown panic mode.
“They said I could have whatever I wanted! Have whoever I want in here with me! Whatever would make me comfortable! If you’re my husband, then I want you! We’ll tell them that I’m … I’m not staying here without you! I’ll … I’ll get up and leave!” Barry plants his hands on the mattress pad beneath him and tries to sit up. “I swear!”
“Shhh, easy now, kid. Don’t get carried away.” Len puts his hands on Barry’s shoulders and in an instance feels him relax, which makes Len want to punch himself in the throat. He did this – him and his frickin’ inability to not make a joke out of everything. Maybe he and Barry don’t always meet on the same side of the law, but he’d never want anything bad for Barry.
Which is why he keeps his distance on the day to day. If Leonard Snart is anything, he’s bad for Barry.
But for some reason, Barry seems to believe wholeheartedly that he’s married to Leonard Snart. And not just believes it, but has memories of it. But where those memories came from, Len doesn’t know. He didn’t say enough to plant any subliminal thoughts in Barry’s mind, nothing as detailed as a wedding on the beach, or a honeymoon. Where did that all come from? Could it be a side-effect of the memory wipe? Cisco specifically said ‘scrambled Barry’s brains like an omelet’. Those were his exact words. Barry’s mind manufacturing a wedding that never happened sounds like the kind of thing a scrambled brain might do.
Or is there a chance that those thoughts were there in Barry’s mind already? Fantasies hidden that the accident unlocked?
Does Barry, on some level, have feelings for Len that venture outside of the hero-villain dynamic they’ve so masterfully cultivated?
As much as Len would like to investigate that possibility, he can’t. They have a situation here that he doesn’t have an easy fix for.
But maybe he doesn’t want one.
Len knows that this can’t go anywhere but downhill, for him and for Barry. But he also knows he can’t back out on Barry now. Not with those eyes staring at him as if he’s the only thing keeping Barry tethered to planet earth.
No one’s ever looked at him that way, with that level of need. Not even his sister.
It’s also not lost on him that this is the longest Barry has managed to stay awake since he arrived at STAR Labs. That in itself is a reason for Len to stay.
What Len doesn’t know is how the hell he’s going to pull this off.
Make a plan. Execute the plan. Expect the plan to go off the rails. Throw away the plan.
Welp. He seems right about on par.
He squeezes Barry’s hand gently. To his own surprise, he leans forward and gives him a kiss on the forehead.
“All right, Red,” he whispers. “I’ll stay. We’ll … figure this out.”
