Germany's leading Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the opposition Christian Democratic Party (CDU) have ordered high schools in Berlin's borough of Neukolln to distribute brochures titled The Myth of Israel #1948. [...] Neukolln is one of Berlin's most diverse and international boroughs with a large Palestinian community. [...] The brochure states there are five "myths" around the creation of the state of Israel, which are subsequently refuted in short essays by various authors. In the first section, debunking myth #1, that Jews and Arabs lived together in peace before Israel was founded, Israel's pre-state militia, the Haganah, responsible for the destruction of 531 Palestinian villages and the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians between December 1947 and the summer of 1948, is promoted as a merely "defensive" Jewish resistance movement. Under 'Myth #2: Israel was established on stolen Palestinian land', Masiyot states that the acquisition of land by Jewish immigrants to Palestine took the form of a legal exchange of capital for an official title deed. At no point in history was land illegally conquered by Jewish immigrants, the author of the text, Michael Spaney, claims. Even land conquered following the wars of 1948 and 1967 and the subsequent construction of settlements, which are internationally recognised as a violation of international law, did not occur unlawfully, it says. "Anyone who uses the accusation of land theft as an argument demonises Israel and denies its legitimacy, i.e. acts out of antisemitic motives," Spaney wrote. "Myth #5: Israel is to blame for the Nakba", includes a text by researcher Shany Mor titled "the UN is distorting the meaning of the Nakba: its view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is extremely one-sided". In the text, Mor states that "displacement during war - then and now - was nothing unusual". He also labels the UN's attention to the Palestinian cause "obsessive" and the Arab defeat of 1948 a myth.

green faction inventory analysis
from the 13/04/2025 event
*not all of green faction. owen, pangi, bad and lukey; with a focus on the three most active members.
something really cool about minecraft storytelling, especially those that are improvisational/livestreamed, is you can get a physical look into the characters' priorities and mindsets. not just what they think is important to have on them, but also what they think is important to keep in their hotbars—and the organization of their hotbars from slots 1-9.
this is a very long post. analysis under cut.
PANGI
inventory
hotbar (1)
we're going to start with pangi, because his inventory provides a really good reference point to start with and his hotbar is also the most unique. a general note: pangi's inventory is always organized, whereas bad and lukey tend to frequently switch items around, from the vods i scanned.* he keeps weaponry on the left side (which is quite literally everything and anything he could possibly use in a fight), potions and rockets in the middle, and additional pvp items on the far right. the crystals and obsidian stay in the upper right unless they're being used. he keeps an empty slot in his hotbar which he replaces with whatever he needs at any given time—rockets, pots, cobwebs or charges. he remains in-control of his inventory in every situation.
he keeps his trident in his off-hand, great-axe in 1st, crossbow in 2nd and pickaxe in 3rd—but he switches the pick for a spear during combat.
hotbar (2)
pangi prioritizes weapons over tools, and keeps a pvp kit on him at all times. exclusively splash pots for efficiency, and they're a variety useful not only for fighting but also for surviving traps (slow-falling), even when fall traps haven't been common in months. some habits are hard to shake.
he has the inventory of a fighter, but one that (semi) knows when to pick his battles or keep fighting, and when it's safer to flee—evidenced by the pearls, rockets and chorus fruit—but he has the resources to put up a fight, and is willing to not only start them but also see them through. he is definitely paranoid but not afraid. he does not play the defensive, keeping his shield in his inventory, but instead the offensive. he has what he needs to get him through a fight. his kills are not strategic, but fuelled by his own emotion and moral compass. he never exactly plans on killing, and is not always looking to kill, but instead is prepared for if he feels he has to, no matter how finicky that "has to" is. he is confident in his ability to survive, his ability to kill, and his ability to hold his own. he knows when he's bitten off more than he can chew, he's always aware of the consequences, and still does the best he can to fight the battles he's started—but never at the expense of his own life.
BAD
inventory
hotbar
bad keeps an entire extra set of armour on him. i literally did not know that until i started this. thats insane
bad's inventory is not un-organized, but he is much more willing to move things around to do what he has to do. the potions he keeps on him are not splash, but drinkable ones, because he doesn't prioritize speed the same way that pangi does, and is less frantic. this is not to say that bad is less paranoid, but they approach pvp with different mindsets bred from different places. bad organizes his inventory horizontally, compared to pangi's vertical organization. in his inventory, also, are the materials to make stasis chambers, not only for himself but also for his teammates—more on that in a moment.
bad keeps his shield in his off-hand, great-axe first like pangi, but pickaxe second. the shulker box in his hotbar has additional resources to keep him alive (gaps, totems, etc.) he has the inventory of an assassin, and focuses more on his own resilience than his honour, opposed to pangi, and is not concerned with dealing with the aftermath. bad is an opportunistic killer to his core, and is confident in his ability to get away from the messes he causes—evidenced by the stasis chambers, the extra set of armour, the pick and shovel in the hotbar to get away. he is one of the few realmers who use drinkable pots instead of splash pots, which is interesting because they can't easily be used to help friends/teammates, BUT he looks out for them using foresight with the stasis chambers, instead of in-conflict aid. he always plans to bite off more than he can chew, and always has twelve ways out when the walls start closing in on him.
LUKEY
inventory
hotbar
lukey, first and foremost, is distinctly un-organized compared to his teammates. and just in general. this not only highlights the difference in their playstyles, but also the difference in how long they've been on the realm. as time has gone on, lukey's inventory has changed, and so have his hot-bar priorities. his inventory has taken more influence from pangi with the splash pots, chorus fruit and windcharges—but some aspects from bad, such as the gapples in the final slot and tools in his hotbar. the splash pots are also indicative of lukey's need to be quick. not because he's a fighter, and certainly not because he's resilient, but because he knows he will be first blood.
lukey has an inventory that indicates pacifism. unlike pangi and bad, his most powerful weapon is not in the first slot, but instead the 3rd, following his pick*—he prioritizes comfortability over his ability to intimidate, as he prefers the sword. the lack of organization also indicates a lack of anticipation, as lukey does not see himself fighting. he keeps a few items he deems useful, and most importantly, a variety of splash potions—turtle master, fire res and three invis. this is probably the most interesting thing about his inventory. lukey is un-confident in his ability to fight and survive, so he prioritizes the potions he knows will work best to his advantage—disappear, get out without raising a weapon.
his hotbar shows a similar pattern, elyta water and trident before the great-axe, and shield in off-hand. unlike pangi, lukey doesn't use his trident for pvp, but as a method of travel. so, his slots 2-4 are all escape routes. he has the inventory of a negotiator, one that can get him away from a fight and not one that can start a fight.
OWEN
inventory
hotbar
if you thought lukey's inventory organization was bad, owen's is the undiscovered layer of hell. where do i even start with this, owen.
to put it very simply, owen has the inventory of a storyteller. he is not very concerned at all with his own survival, or escape, or ability to kill—he knows they can't kill him in any way that really matters, because they've tried, and he just comes back. this is not only evidenced by his inventory but also his obvious playstyle—he runs around without armour on. in his inventory, he keeps more blocks than weapons, and more potions he can use for gags and bits rather than ones he can use to ensure his own survival. owen is an individualist, and is more concerned with his goal and narrative than any of the things his factionmates are concerned with.
#i spent so long on this guys please#also my qualifications are bar-none#well. ive been wtching minecraft videos for like 13 years. i do this for love of the game etc etc. and i love mcrp#it does sick shit to the human mind#the realm smp#trsmp#pangi#lukeytv#badboyhalo#owengejuicetv#honey badgers#cooper talks

Book Haymitch and Movie Haymitch are two different characters
If the Haymitch in SOTR feels “off” to you and it has been some time since you’ve read the trilogy then I would suggest that you go back and read it. Particularly if you’ve got Woody Harrelson dancing around in your head.
I don’t see people discuss this very often, but book Haymitch and movie Haymitch are quite different. They’re both drunk assholes with knowledge of the Games, but that’s about all that movie Haymitch is whereas book Haymitch has so many more layers, so much more depth, and is so much closer to the boy that we see in SOTR.
The movies sand down his extremes. Book Haymitch can come off as much darker and even more violent (such as when he punches Peeta). But he can also be much more tender than movie Haymitch (such as when he kisses the top of Katniss’s head before her interview).
His level of despair and hopelessness is much higher in the books. It’s like he doesn’t know what to do because even though he has plenty of smart ideas, everything he tries just ends up getting people killed. And yet he has these two kids in front of him who keep wanting him to try. This doesn’t really come across to me in the movies.
His alcoholism is so much worse and is treated so much more seriously in the books. In the movies, it’s almost always used as a joke. It’s sometimes used as a joke in the books, but we can also see that this man has severe alcoholism to the point that he has difficulty functioning. When he meets Katniss and Peeta, he immediately vomits on the ground and Peeta has to go give him a bath. His withdrawals in Catching Fire are also striking.
Book Haymitch has hints of rebellion such as when he points into the camera when Katniss is reaped. These aren’t as present in movie Haymitch. I certainly think that movie Haymitch is pissed off about the Games, but he doesn’t have the same dark undercurrent of rebellion.
I also think that one of the biggest differences is that book Haymitch is so chaotic (which matches the impulsive boy from SOTR well). I can never predict what book Haymitch might do. With movie Haymitch I know pretty well what he’ll do because his actions are mostly limited to: a) acting drunk in a funny way, b) dispensing wise advice about the Hunger Games, c) being a sarcastic asshole, or d) flirting with Effie Trinket.
Book Haymitch might do any of these things except for the flirting with Effie Trinket one. But there are also so many other possibilities. He might give you amazing insight into the Games. He might vomit on the carpet. He might fall into a depressive state where he’s of no use to anyone. He might be the only person who can fix your propo for you. He might tell you that Peeta is the best boy ever. He might punch Peeta in the face. He might insult Katniss. He might give Katniss a tender hug. He’s very unpredictable in a way that doesn’t come across in the movies.
Because the Seam and merchant divide is almost absent from the movies, we don’t get much if any impression of Haymitch being Seam. This is one of the main ways that Katniss connects to him in the books and it’s a huge part of his character. He’s so very Appalachian. Gone from the movies.
Do the movies even have the reveal that Snow killed Haymitch’s family and his girl? I don’t remember it, but it’s been a long time since I watched Mockingjay. I know they don’t really show his Quarter Quell. And I remember that they completely ruined that scene of Finnick’s revelations by interspersing it with action movie bullshit.
None of this is meant to be a criticism of Woody Harrelson, by the way. He does very well with the part as it is written. But book Haymitch just has so much more depth and is so much closer to SOTR Haymitch. I do sort of wonder how they are going to handle the SOTR movie because I can picture movie-only fans just thinking “what the fuck?” But for me, SOTR Haymitch works so well as a younger version of the Haymitch we see in the Hunger Games books.

oh hey one more really stupid sock construction before i go: tablet woven heel band! this pair is a christmas gift for a good friend so i'm not modeling them myself, but the water bottle works ok. (i am not immune to a non-knitter who appreciates and actually wears hand-knit items, and my friend, god love him, lacks the good sense to tell me to quit giving him weird stuff, so here we are.)
i can't find the post now, but i remember seeing someone on here tablet-weave a color transition for... a sweater? a shawl? i don't even remember anymore. anyway, the idea was still knocking around in my head when i found the squircle sock pattern, which starts with a cuff in the round, adds a very long and narrow heel flap (only 6 stitches wide!), and picks up stitches on either side of it to work in the round again. this monstrosity replaces the original garter stitch heel flap with a short tablet-woven band grafted onto the back of the cuff. to "pick up stitches" along the side, i wove each section with some slack in the weft, using a couple dpns to keep things even (looking back, i don't think i actually used the weft loops themselves as the "slipped stitches," because you can already see the warp twists kind of coming undone along the sides of the dpn-less section in the bottom photo? i think i ran another bit of scrap thread through those loops, tightened the slack out of the weft, used the scrap thread as the slipped stitches, and then tightened those loops out too once i'd gotten a couple rounds into the rest of the sock to get the knitted stitches flush with edges of the woven band.)
things i would do differently if i made these again: tablet weaving is a twined weaving style, so it's a bit thick, and it gets even thicker when you have to weave in the ends. this pattern uses 18 tablets with 4 threads each, for a total of 18 x 4 x 2 x 2 = 288 total ends that need weaving in, which as you can imagine is Deeply And Profoundly Unfun. i might do a missing-hole tablet woven pattern (which the "dublin dragons" motif is supposed to be anyway, but i wanted three colors to match the flag stripes), or i might do a baltic pickup band instead, which should reduce the bulk a bit.
#these are the stupidest things i've ever made BAR NONE#fiber art#knitting#knitblr#tablet weaving#next year i'll make him something nice and normal with a lot of fun colorwork i swear. but this year we're getting unhinged with it :D#subcreation#aggressive linguistic prescriptivism#inland

was thinking about it this morning as i was making tea and i think there's a fundamental gap in the advice we give to writers/creators to "first and foremost create for ourselves", bc yes. in the beginning, i am almost always writing for myself. i write all the time, and im sure that artists doodle and paint all the time too. there are things i've written that will never see the light of day and are truly just for me.
and then there are things that i choose to share, because i want to share them. because i'm proud of a story, and want to put it into the world. the act of sharing it is, above all, an invitation.
its me inviting you into a corner of my mind/heart/soul, opening the window and throwing open the curtains and waving, holding up a sign that says "hi! do you like this too? let's talk about it!"
what im asking for is a connection, a conversation. a shared space. digital or otherwise. and the so-called "harm" of "ghost consumption" is not that artists will stop creating art or that writers will stop writing -- no, that's not quite how creativity works (thankfully, and sometimes unfortunately). we will always create.
we just might not be inspired to share it anymore.
#🌧 raindrops#this is broad strokes and of course it feels good for something to get lots of traction and to 'do well'#creation is a fundamental part of the human condition im afraid#but its the sharing of that creativity that builds community and connection and i dont care how much people go on and on about#the industry of business and the boom of economics and capitalism#shared space is what humanity has ALWAYS been built on bar none#back when there were no cities and we were all just wandering tribes of people hunting and gathering we still sat around a fire#we still painted cave walls and sung our stories to the stars#and those people are no less human than we are today#money and infrastructure keep you alive but art and writing and creativity gives you a REASON to stay that way
