Both teams are coming off a bye, though that is about the end of their similarities thus far into the 2021 season. The Bulldogs are the clear No. 1 team in the country, having beaten their opponents by an average of 29.9 points per game. That includes ranked victories over then-No. 3 Clemson, then-No. 8 Arkansas, No. 12 Kentucky and No. 18 Auburn.

The defense is one of the best units the sport has seen in several years, ranking first in total defense (207.1 yards per game), scoring defense (6.6 points per game), second in rushing defense (62.3 yards per game) and passing defense (144.9 yards per game). Quarterback Stetson Bennett has also proven himself a capable manager of Georgia’s offense, completing 69.5 percent of his passes for 996 yards and 11 touchdowns to two interceptions.

Circumstances are considerably more mercurial with Dan Mullen’s team, which is 4-3 on the season with losses to No. 3 Alabama, Kentucky and LSU. That’s also true of the quarterback situation, as Mullen has said both Anthony Richardson and Emory Jones will see action against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Richardson has completed 21 of 37 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns to three interceptions, adding 348 rushing yards and three more scores. Jones has completed 118 of 175 passes for 1,304 yards and 10 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also has 494 rushing yards and two more scores.

Perhaps the Gators can use the two-quarterback situation to confuse the Bulldogs’ defense in Jacksonville. Or perhaps Georgia will clamp down as it has all season.

Low-cost Childcare Delivers Female Labour-force Participation

“The OECD’s economic study of Canada this month makes a stark observation: ‘the supply of affordable, high-quality childcare remains inadequate, prompting involuntary part-time working and career breaks among women and contributing to gender inequality.’ Yet Canada has, on its territory, one of the world’s foremost models of a system that promotes female workforce participation. Quebec began almost 25 years ago with a fee-subsidy program targeting 4-year-olds, and now covers both preschool and school-aged children. The uniform rate is $8.50 per day in 2021 – under $200 a month compared to the Ontario big-city average of about $1,800 a month. In addition, Quebec also offers a generous refundable tax credit for childcare expenses ranging from 75 percent to 26 percent of eligible costs, depending on the level of net family income.”

“Of course, all this has a cost, around $3.3 billion in 2020 spent by Quebec ($2.7 billion for reduced-contribution childcare and around $610 million for the refundable childcare tax credit). In 1996, prior to its introduction, Quebec’s employment rate of mothers aged 25 to 54 years (59.9 percent) was lower than in the rest of Canada (62.3 percent) by 2.4 percentage points. From 1996 to 2019, mothers’ employment rate grew by 18.4 points in Quebec, which is 2.5 times the increase in the rest of Canada (7.4 points) and Ontario (7.2 points).As a result, mothers’ employment rate is now significantly higher in Quebec in 2019 than in the rest of Canada (by an enormous margin of 9.1 points). The reduced-contribution childcare program is clearly, at least in part, an explanation for this reversal of the employment rate of mothers aged 25 to 54.”

Bitcoin ATM Installations Up 500% Since 2016

It’s official. Despite Bitcoin’s ups and downs, demand continues to surge. There are now 5,457 Bitcoin ATMs globally according to Statistica.

Actually, that number is at odds with Coin ATM Radar who places Bitcoin ATMs at 5,590 worldwide. This just goes to show how quickly new installations are appearing on a daily basis.

But with such high fees for using Bitcoin ATMs (sometimes up to 15%), why is there such a demand for them?

Well, they do provide a much easier way of turning BTC into fiat than using an exchange and transferring to your bank account. Transactions are also a lot faster, taking just a few seconds rather than days to complete.

They’re also rather useful for people who want to travel and get hold of the local currency easily. 

Top 5 Countries for Bitcoin ATMs

Interestingly, considering its dithering on key decisions over Bitcoin ETFs and its clamping down on ICOs, the USA gallops ahead when it comes to the number of Bitcoin ATMs. A massive 62.3% of all of them are in the USA with 3,678 locations.

Next up is Canada with 707, the UK with 274, Austria with 252, and Spain with 94. It’s also worth noting that not far behind is Switzerland with 73.

When you consider the sizes of both tiny landlocked Switzerland and Austria, that’s a much higher penetration rate. Although it’s perhaps unsurprising there should be so many Bitcoin ATMs given the massive uptake of cryptocurrencies in these two countries.

Countries That Don’t Take Part At All

If you’re looking to travel to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bolivia, Algeria, Bangladesh, Vanuatu or Macedonia, you won’t find a single Bitcoin ATM. That’s because Bitcoin is banned in these countries (even though Bitcoin is unbannable for multiple reasons).

Bitcoin of course still circulates in these countries regardless of laws trying to quash its existence. People wanting to buy and sell BTC in these places use sites like LocalBitcoins, Paxful or Bisq.

Ziraat Bank was at the top of yesterday's donation list with 62.3 million liras. Türk Telekom announced that it has donated 40 million liras. Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal said, “As Türk Telekom, we participated in the National Solidarity Campaign with a total donation of more than 40 million TL, corresponding to a net minimum wage for each of our employees.” The SDIF will provide a total of 20 million TL support through the companies and subsidiaries it manages. The SDIF President and Board Members will donate their monthly salaries to the campaign. Trendyol announced that it has donated 1 million lira to the campaign and 5 million lira to the Ministry of Health. The Sabancı Group will donate 1,7 million lira to the Ministry of Health for use in the development of 150,000 diagnostic kits and Kovid-19 vaccines and serums.

DEİK President Nail Olpak stated his support with the words “As a DEİK family, we support the National Solidarity Campaign with 10 million TL”. On the other hand, Vakıf Participation donated a total amount of TL 5 million on behalf of each employee, with a net minimum wage.

A thought occurs. Are we condemning ourselves to a future of mediocre but politically correct leaders? Such might be a worse tragedy.

Another thought occurs. Where do we draw a line on a person’s youthful stupidity? Such stupidity commonplace.

Al Jolson a great American entertainer. Vintage 1920’s-1930’s. Many times black faced. Mammy! Made the first talking movie.

Do we destroy his old films and recordings?

Amos and Andy a popular comedic radio show from 1928 to 1960. Its 2 stars were white men speaking the black dialect of the times.

When the show went on TV, they were no longer Amos and Andy. Black actors were hired to play Amos and Andy.

As with Al Jolson, Amos and Andy are part and parcel of America’s entertainment history. Shall we destroy the recordings of their radio shows?

What further causes concern is the propriety of applying the political correctness of today to actions which occurred 30-45 years ago.

Two Pier House guests from Syracuse were seated next to me. They had arrived yesterday afternoon. A week’s vacation. First time in Key West.

You get what you pay for. I did. A piece of tough sirloin. The potatoes and veggies were good.

I enjoy Harpoon Harry’s for breakfast and lunch. Last time I probably will have dinner there, however.

Facebook friend Maryannbruno sends me daily Minion quotes. I have been ignoring them. Today, I took a look. Great stuff! Thank you, Mary Ann.

This morning’s Minion read: Two blondes were driving to Disneyland. The sign said: Disneyland Left. So they started crying and headed home.

Came across a recent study regarding high schoolers who are virgins. I would have thought the number astronomical. Not. Actually, there has been a significant reduction over the years.

In 1980, 49.2 percent of females were virgins. In 2017, 62.3 percent.

As to males, in 1980 42.67 percent were virgins. In 2017, 58.6 percent.

The recent percentages impressive. May they continue upward. I am old school.

I close with further comment re American farm production.

Mentioned a few days ago that farmer bankruptcies were up 100 percent from those that took place in 2008. A major recession occurred in 2008.

I wish to portray the American farmer’s economic woes further.

If matters continue as they are, the farmers’ struggling will lead to a catastrophic food supply in the U.S. Simply stated, there will not be enough to eat.

Government interference in the agriculture industry will have been responsible. The problems three-fold: regulated low prices, tariffs, and inability to export.

It is crisis time for farmers. They cannot make enough money. First it was they could not sell, now it is they cannot afford to plant.

American farm income under Trump is the lowest in 15 years.

A slight raise in interest rates also affecting the situation. As well as low commodity prices affecting not only bottom line profitability, but also viability.

Farmers are reluctant to borrow if they cannot pay back. In that regard, banks are playing hard ass with farmers. Denying loans. Pushing foreclosures.

The Trump administration is destroying America’s food industry. Actually, it may already have.

Lack of food could reach apocalyptic levels. As occurred in Greece 10 years ago and in Venezuela in recent years.

Greek farmers could not afford to grow since the stores were not able to buy because customers did not have monies to purchase.

Several years go, Venezuela suffered similarly and still does. Things got so bad people first ate their pets. Then attacked the zoos and killed the animals for meat.

The United States could fall into a similar scenario if the trend which began under Trump continues.

2017 college football returning production rankings: Oregon, TCU, Texas among leaders

Don’t use returning starters. Use these better numbers instead.

In advance of Friday’s unveiling of the initial 2017 S&P+ projections, I am looking at each of three primary factors in detail. On Monday, we took a look at five-year performance averages. On Thursday, we’ll look at recruiting. Today, we’ll look at returning production, with full FBS rankings below.

Over the last couple of years, I have attempted to move beyond using the too-simple “returning starters” figure to measure experience and returning production.

We use the best tools we have, even if they're not that great. We try to derive value from offensive line starts because it's the only individual measure of offensive linemen that we have. You can't get much from "he's been one of Team A's five preferred linemen 16 times since he started school here," but the value is probably greater than zero, so we go with it.

It's the same with returning starters. We use it because it exists, and nothing else is particularly available. It is fine as a really quick snapshot, but we know that one team's six returning offensive starters aren't another's. What about go-to guys? Returning backups? And quarterbacks are worth more than other starters, right?

Last year, I began using a returning production figure based on what seems to have the most direct impact on year-to-year performance. With what is now a few years’ worth of data, let’s take a look at some updated correlations between given categories and change in production.

First, we’ll take a gander at offense. Returning experience on the offensive line doesn’t have nearly the statistical impact that we think it will. But with more data in the bank, we can see there’s a little bit of a correlation.

How returning production in four different offensive stats correlates with changes in Offensive S&P+ ratings:

(The higher the number, the more likely returning production in these areas is to coincide with strong offense.)

Receiving yards correlation: 0.320

Passing yards correlation: 0.231

Rushing yards correlation: 0.126

The conclusion remains: Continuity in the passing game matters a hell of a lot, and continuity in the run game doesn’t have as strong an impact.

On defense, where returning production appears to matter more in general, the correlations are both stronger and more diverse. Since teams use different numbers of defensive linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs, I look at both unit-specific categories and those for defense as a whole.

Correlation between defensive stats and changes in Defensive S&P+:

Overall passes defensed correlation: 0.406

Overall tackles correlation: 0.369

Defensive back passes defensed correlation: 0.363

Defensive back tackles correlation: 0.352

Overall tackles for loss correlation: 0.296

Defensive back tackles for loss correlation: 0.291

Linebacker tackles for loss correlation: 0.174

Defensive line sacks correlation: 0.171

The main takeaways are similar to last year: disruption and continuity in the secondary are key. And the ability to get hands on passes, via interception or breakup, is harder to replicate than any other, when it comes to box-score disruption.

So what does this mean for 2017? As with last year, I used categories like the ones above, weighted for largest effect — so, quarterbacks, receivers, and defensive backs carry more heft — to create general “returning production” numbers for offense and defense.

(Note: This list does not include FBS newcomer UAB, which is starting from scratch.)

How effective is it to look at returning production this way?

Over the last three years, 32 teams have returned at least 80 percent of their production based on current calculations; 26 of them improved, and 17 improved their adjusted scoring margin by more than a touchdown.

Meanwhile, 29 teams returned 45 percent of production or less; 25 of them regressed, and 15 regressed by more than a touchdown.

Thus far for 2017, 12 teams return 80 percent or more, and seven return 45 percent or less.

It's 2014 all over again.

In 2014, Oregon reached the CFP final, and TCU 12-1 and finished third in the polls. But while they went a combined 25-3 that year, they went just 10-15 last fall. A plummet to 4-8 got Oregon's Mark Helfrich fired, but he left an experienced roster for Willie Taggart.

After significant youth movements in 2016, the Ducks and Horned Frogs both return as much of last year's production as anyone in the country not named Florida International.

Another new coach hits the ground running: Texas' Tom Herman. The Longhorns are one of only three teams (along with FIU and Tulane) to return at least 80 of their production on both sides of the ball. Charlie Strong didn't leave the cupboard empty.

Return of the East?

As things stand, four SEC East teams rank among the top 10 in overall returning production: Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Vanderbilt. Plus, Missouri ranks in the top 10 in returning offense and is 31st overall.

Granted, last year's two best East teams -- Florida (15th in year-end S&P+) and Tennessee (28th) -- have some inexperience to deal with. The Gators should show gains on offense but also rank 103rd in returning defensive production, while Tennessee ranks 109th in overall production.

Still, the division as a whole should improve. It won't catch the West, but expect a little more balanced playing field in the SEC.

Woe to the Big Ten?

Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Iowa are all among the bottom 12 in returning production. The Wolverines will continue to recruit well and should get a top-15 overall projection because of it, but a step or two backward could be in the works.

In all, the Big Ten brings up the rear when it comes to average production returning.

1. Main points

The data in this bulletin presents the latest fiscal position of the UK public sector as at 31 December 2016 and so includes 6 months of post-EU referendum data. However, care should be taken when interpreting short-term trends as movements in the public sector finances are driven by a large number of factors.

Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) decreased by £10.6 billion to £63.8 billion in the current financial year-to-date (April to December 2016), compared with the same period in 2015.

Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) decreased by £0.4 billion to £6.9 billion in December 2016, compared with December 2015.

Public sector net debt (excluding public sector banks) was £1,698.1 billion at the end of December 2016, equivalent to 86.2% of gross domestic product (GDP); an increase of £91.5 billion, or an average of £251 million each day over the last year.

Public sector net debt excluding both public sector banks and the Bank of England (PSND ex BoE) was £1,619.0 billion at the end of December 2016, equivalent to 82.2% of gross domestic product (GDP); an increase of £55.6 billion compared with December 2015. Central government net cash requirement decreased by £3.6 billion to £62.3 billion in the current financial year-to-date (April to December 2016), compared with the same period in 2015.

She begins to rub the muscles in my back. Her warm touch does nothing for my pulled muscle, but having her hands all over me still feels good. Maybe I can take advantage of the situation.

Kai: I think I pulled a muscle somewhere else. Can you rub that too?

Melisa: *laughs* Yeah, right. You’re not slick.

Kai: Maybe not, but it’ll make me forget about my back.

Dub thinks about the beauty of this small town and tries to come up with some good reasons why he might want to stay here. He even snaps a few shots and posts the best one to his Simstagram. Maybe if it gets a good reaction, he can post more photos of this beautiful place. Dub gives it some serious thought before hopping back on his bike.

I enter the house after taking Belle out for a jog; feeling some pain from a pulled muscle. I admit I’ve been in denial about my body getting older. I can no longer head out the door for a jog without a good stretch. I’ll keep that in mind next time.

I‘m not hungry, but I take note of Me-Me’s empty bowl and Mase’s full one.

Kai: Franks and beans? Back to basics, eh?

Melisa: I didn’t cook. It was Dub.

Kai: *shocked* Our Dub? The Dub that actually lives here?

Melisa: Yeah, and it’s pretty good.

I’ll have to take her word for it. Although I’m not eating, I still sit at the table.

Kai: How was your speaking engagement today?

Melisa: It was excellent, and I finally got a promotion.

Kai: Congrats! But I’m not surprised. You’ve worked so hard - it’s about time they recognized that.

Melisa: Well, I lacked in a few areas, but I’ve finally arrived!

Kai: Yes, you have.

Mase leaves the table and heads upstairs while Me-Me tells me about her speech at the college today.

Melisa: I don’t care where you do it, as long as it gets done.

Me-Me sits there for a while to make sure he gets started; then, she heads upstairs to change.

Drake works until he completes his homework. But the TV show he wanted to watch is off now, and he has nothing else to do. He’s already missing having his cousin Leslie over to play with.

Meanwhile, Dray decides to stay inside rather than go out and enjoy the beautiful Spring day. He’s not very motivated to play outside because he’d be by himself, and right now, there’s just no fun in that. So Dray goes into the office instead and decides to work on his typing skills. He was one of the slowest typists in his computer class today and missed part of his recess because of it. Practicing is the only way he’ll ever change that.
