Note
For the other anon: technically Taylor plays the banjitar not the banjo. It has the body of a banjo and sounds like a banjo but has a guitar neck and is tuned and played the way you play a guitar, banjo is a really weird instrument to play (source: my boyfriend who plays professional banjo and politely corrected me when I tried to tell him Taylor plays banjo). Nothing wrong with the banjitar, it’s just a different instrument :)

Banjos – a US Tradition
A distinctive creation in the world of stringed instruments, the banjo stands out for its distinctive twang, spirited rhythms, and rich history. From folk to bluegrass, old-time, Dixieland and country music, banjos have carved their niche in US musical history.   The Birth of Banjos   The banjo traces its origins back to West Africa. Africans crafted similar instruments using gourds and animal skins, creating a distinctive resonant sound. These instruments found their way into America via the slave trade. Over time, the instrument evolved into its modern form, with a wooden body, a skinhead, and a distinctive five-string setup.   Banjo Construction   The banjo's construction is a testament to its ingenuity. It typically consists of several key components:
Neck: The long, slender neck supports the strings. The neck surface contains the frets and is called the fingerboard. The neck is almost always made from wood, like maple, walnut, or rosewood.
Head: The head of the banjo's body is normally made from a synthetic material, replacing the original stretched skin. The head amplifies the sound and shapes the tone.
Strings: Banjos most commonly have five strings, although there are several variations with four or even six strings. Tenor and plectrum banjos have four strings and banjitars (aka “banjo guitar”) have six, like nearly all guitars.
Bridge: The bridge transmits vibrations from the strings to the head, creating the signature twang. Various parts of the banjo impact the tone, including the rim, which is commonly made from multi-ply wood of different types.
Tuners: Tuning pegs or planetary gear tuners (one per string) are used to adjust string tension. String adjustments enable precise tuning of each string.
Resonator: Bluegrass banjos also have resonators. The resonator reflects sound from the back to the front of the instrument, creating a fuller, louder tone.
Cultural Significance   The banjo has had a lasting impression on American music. It was pivotal in the development of Appalachian/old time music, bluegrass, folk music Dixieland and more. Countless songs celebrate its joyful, spirited sound.   The banjo's history also weaves into African American struggles in the United States. It has been a symbol of cultural preservation and change, as traditional African music met European influences to create something entirely new.   For more info about banjos for sale so please visit our website.

Today I played a snippet of the BBC snooker theme on a 6 string banjo.
I am neither proud nor ashamed.
It is what it is.

So, here’s another. This is not actually a banjo, but not exactly a guitar, either. This is a six string Dixieland banjo, otherwise known as a banjitar. The song is “gin, smoke, and lies”, by Turnpike Troubadours.
