New Delhi: A controversy erupted on social media after a video from Karachi’s National Stadium surfaced, allegedly showing the absence of the Indian flag among those of other participating nations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan and the UAE from February 19, the tournament marks the return of the Champions Trophy after eight years. The viral video has sparked heated debates, though its authenticity remains unverified.

PCB Clarifies Flag Controversy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) downplayed the issue, stating that only the flags of teams playing in Pakistan have been displayed at stadiums across the country.

A PCB source told IANS,

"Since India will not be playing its matches in Pakistan during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, its flag has not been hoisted at Karachi’s National Stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, or Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The flags represent only the teams competing at these venues."

The source further explained that India will play all their matches in Dubai under the hybrid model approved by the ICC.

"Similarly, Bangladesh is yet to arrive in Pakistan and will play its first match against India in Dubai, which is why its flag is also not displayed. Only teams scheduled to play in Pakistan have their flags put up to welcome them."
