i work in a rural facility so i'm not just trapped in the lab, and i've learned a ton about nursing & other departments like radiology/pharmacy/etc.

so tho i definitely don't know everything, i still raise eyebrows a lot at some of the stuff i see in shows

final update: when I noticed something wrong, it was night and the vets that see rabbits in Toronto had closed. I stayed with Chiefcake; she ate half a banana, and tooth-purred as I stroked her. she seemed weak but not in distress, so I was hoping that either she could hold out until morning when the exotics vets open, or that’d she’d go in her sleep (naive of me). when she started showing signs of discomfort, I called an emergency vet and said I know you don’t see rabbits, but could you euthanize one if I brought her to you? they said yes, so I hopped in an Uber. she died on the way there, with her head in my hands.

I kept trying to calculate what I could do to cause her the least distress, and I’m not sure I did a good job in the end. usually with animal deaths I see them coming and can plan better, but this all just happened tonight. I don’t know what was wrong with her, other than old age.

Absolutely true! The door in which it’s easiest for ultra religious conservatives to slither into is that of kinks. They will present to you a list that you couldn’t fathom yourself doing and say, “Isn’t X gross? Doesn’t Y repulse you? How are people in community Z so dirty?” If you agree long enough that list will grow and grow until eventually you will see YOUR community named.

You don’t have to agree with, see, or participate in someone else’s sexual proclivities but demystifying the type of person into it is important. People can like sadism, being a pisspig, cuckoldry or any other kink/fetish and be a whole person outside of that. As long as it is consensual and isn’t illegal there’s no problem. It’s not for me to judge— nor you.

Especially if it’s something queer folks are known to do!

While trying to get more context for a footnote, I stumbled upon an even more delightful tidbit, which is that a scientist in the 1960s decided to try to make a substance for spaceflights that could function either as building material or emergency rations. The mixture included powdered milk, cornstarch, flour, banana flakes, and hominy grits and was baked in a hydraulic press under 3000 pounds of pressure.
