Banana Fish Episode 9 'Save Me The Waltz' and Eiji and Shorter sort of fighting and running round in circles against each other back and forth like a twisted dance...

Sorry in advance if it's too many xD
1, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15, 19, 25, 29 and 30 for the anime ask game ^^
Hii <3 That's okay, don't worry xD Thank you for the asks!
1. first anime you ever watched
The real first is Pokémon, but the first one that really got me into anime was Violet Evergarden and I really can't imagine a better start
8. anime character you are most like
Koushi Sugawara from Haikyuu!! He's practically me, he's my soulmate. We have similar characters (although he is more optimistic than me xd) and sense of humor. But also Anzu from Romantic Killer is also so me coded
9. favorite anime child
Anya from Spy x Family! I usually find child characters annoying, but Anya is the first one I've actually liked. She's really funny and tries hard
11. anime you didn’t expect to like but did
I answered that in this ask (ID: INVADED), but I will also give other anime: Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again. When I was browsing through seasonal anime, it didn't even catch my eye. But when they showed the first episode at one of the manga meetings, to my surprise I liked it and decided to watch the rest myself. Interesting anime; funny but also bittersweet.
12. anime that should get more attention from others
Romantic Killer!! I feel like there are almost no posts (fanarts are practically non-existent) about this anime, like it's been forgotten or just unknown. And this is really good!
15. anime you never get sick of watching
Yuri!!! On ice. Sometimes a woman just needs to get back to her gays the ice.
19. favorite anime ships
Ohhh this is a hard one
Shiguang from Link Click
Haikyuu!!: Sakuatsu, Kuroken, Daisuga, Oisuga, Bokuaka, Kagehina, Asanoya, Tsukkiyama…
Tokyo Revengers: Ryufuyu, Kazufuyu, Bajifuyu, Kazufuyu, Hanmafuyu (is there such a ship name??)
Blue Lock: Reonagi/Nagireo, Hiorin, Kunigiri, Bachisagi, Barounagi, Bachirin
My Hero Academia: Tododeku, Shindeku. Kamijirou, EraserMic, Dabihawks
Fruits Basket: Kyoru, Rinharu
Jujutsu Kaisen: Itafushi, Sukufushi, Inuokko, Nobamaki, Chosoyuki, Satosugu
Bungou Stray Dogs: Ranpoe, Shin Soukoku, Soukoku, Suegiku
Wind Breaker: Suosaku, Suonire, Kiryusuo
Free!!: Makoharu, Reigisa, Sourin
One Piece: Zosan, Acesan
Chainsaw Man: Akiangel
Hunter x Hunter: Leopika, Killugon
Moriarty the Patriot: Sherliam
Heaven Official's Blessing: Hualian, Fengqing
Attack on Titan: Eruri
SK8: Renga, Matchablossom
Yuri!!! On ice: Victuuri, Otayuri
The Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited: Daiharu
Wotakoi: Narumi/Hirotaka, Kabakura/Koyanagi
25. anime you would recommend to someone who hates anime
Something from Makoto Shinkai. Your name, Weathering with you or Suzume. Even someone who hates anime would appreciate the beauty of these movies and the amazing music
Or, as was my case, Violet Evergarden.
29. anime that deserves another season
I also answered that in this ask (Romantic Killer; this anime is SO good and really deserves another season!!) but I can also give another title.
Sometimes I randomly remember about Blue Period and I'm like "Hey, where is the second season?" As far as I know, the manga is still being created, so there is still a lot of material for the anime and I have to admit that Blue Period is something.
30. one anime conclusion you would change
I'm torn between Tokyo Revengers and My Hero Academia. The first one was a bit disappointing because it was way too happy enging. As much as it sounds, someone could have stayed dead or on bad terms with other characters. And with My Hero Academia, I didn't feel satisfied at all with the career Midoryia chose. I've read too many Vigilante Deku fanfics to believe he didn't try to work as a hero.
Edit: Shit, these were mangas, not anime xD My mistake So Banana Fish. Because OH COME ONNNN. It could have ended differently, happier.
Thanks again and have a nice day! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

New thought: Griffin and Abraham themselves are the symbolical banana fish
In JD' Salinger's novel "A Perfect Day For Bananafish" the titular bananafish were metaphors for two things: 1: materialism and 2: wartime soldiers' personal experiences.
Number 1: When bananafish enter the holes in the ocean they consume the bananas in there and gain an obsession for them, eating so many that they're too fat to get out, and die.
Number 1 is all Abraham, his obsession with his drug and "justifiable" revenge on the soldiers that bullied him in Vietnam/Iraq.
Number 2: They also represent soldiers who went into war (the feeding holes) and then consumed so many horrors that they were mentally unable to reintegrate themselves back into society, some (many, actually, I've seen some stats and Holy shit) committing suicide out of trauma and guilt.
Number 2 is all Griffin, entering the war as an innocent and then losing himself to drugs and then going into a catamose state before being killed by the other version of bananafish, Abraham

4/1 BANANA FISH!!!
Banana Fish is one of the examples where a BL was done correctly. The portrayal of Ash and Eiji’s relationship is done so well; it is not exaggerated or overly sexual, but realistic of what a homosexual relationship could be, ignoring the gang/mafia violence aspect of it of course. Some may believe that their relationship is platonic and that they are friends, but it is clear that their relationship is deeper than just friends. Ash had to choose between saving Shorter or Eiji in episode 9. Despite Shorter being Ash’s closest friend and knowing Eiji for a few days, he chose to save Eiji. In a way killing Shorter was also like saving him, but I don’t think many would choose to kill Shorter in this situation if they were Ash. The approach to gender and sexuality expression is shown completely through male characters. Ash is a very beautiful person who is often described as having feminine features, however, his behavior is more masculine than how he appears. Eiji is a soft character inside and out; I will say he is strong because of how much he has been through, but he is still a very soft and emotional character. Which you often do not see expressed in male characters. Ash was taken by Golzine and abused by him and others for a very long time. Expressing his emotions (or enjoying life) is not something that Ash often has the privilege of. However, upon meeting Eiji, this side of him is able to come out. This anime is also the portrayal of American life within a mafia from the perspective of the Japanese. In other American films or shows of this genre, you often seen gangs that have this very strong sense of family. I think Banana Fish took this concept of family and presented it in the most perverted way. Golzine is like the father of this mafia (they call him Papa…) and he has raised (abused) characters like Ash, who he expects to respect and treat him like a father. I also think this anime expresses the idea that toxic masculinity can be seen in homosexual relationships. All the characters who are actually called gay are rapists and abusers, like Marvin. Overall this anime is one enjoyed by all, in my opinion. It is technically a shonen and appeals to a male audience, and despite it having very different aspects than your everyday BL, many BL enthusiasts also enjoy this show. Also one of my favorite anime intros of all time.

Banana Fish (EP 2, 9, 11, 24)
Despite the popularity, I originally did not want to watch this anime because people said they always cry/get super sad even after rewatching it. As an already not happy person, even if I must miss the masterpiece between the "definitely straight-platonic" relationship between the main characters, it would be fine.
Well, I watched it. I actually watched a clip from EP 11 on Instagram before, and I knew what the show was, but I didn't want to be too tempted by a singular cute moment at the time.
After watching, I realized what the sadness meant. Unlike Your Name from the last post, that feeling of relief when there are less than 2 minutes left of the last episode was quickly taken away. I wonder if Eiji knew what happened to Ash while he was on the plane, or if he didn't want to say or worry others. Every time Ash and Eiji talk about each other to others, it's almost like they can read each other's minds because they nailed down every flaw and thought so naturally.
I also found the ending not only way too sad but happily ironic. Ash was clearly worried every time he brought Eiji into another gang brawl or some mess from his business. Almost always, Ash and Eiji both need saving, but Ash manages to save himself and others (not everyone as we see in EP 2). He fears that despite the comfort he has with Eiji, he will only bring danger to his life. Yet, it is Eiji who kills Ash because he is too engrossed in Eiji's farewell letter. If Ash had "saved" himself either by leaving behind the letter to go to a hospital or going to Eiji in person before he left, he likely could've lived.
And what do I think about their relationship? These episodes aren't enough for me to really describe it. It's obvious Eiji and Ash deeply care about each other and understand each other beyond the surface. How they can draw out each other's strengths and vulnerabilities shows how compatible they are like when Eiji just takes it upon himself to wake up Ash after his nap when his own subordinates are too scared to do it themselves. He even hits him to get him up, and the subordinates are probably going to leave Eiji behind if Ash even shouts. Instead, Ash just grumbles like a kid and gets up to shower. Of course, he shouts for soap but Eiji still retrieves it for him quietly and very bravely.
Tumblr media
The sparkles that center only around the two (you can see shading is cut off behind Eiji) in their own world are very sweet.

Top 15 GID Scenes: Banana Fish Episode 4
So I'm not going to do this in any particular order. I'm just gonna go through my personal favourite scenes and why I like them! Without further ado...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Banana Fish is one of those series where you're just certain that the writer had a bondage kink. It's a 24 episode series and over half of the episodes have a bondage scene. I could honestly put so many of them in my top 15 favourite scenes, but if I had to choose one, it's Eiji in episode 4: This Side of Paradise.
Eiji is sent by Ash, who has been arrested for a murder he didn't commit, to collect a sample of the titular "Banana Fish" drug from Ash's doctor friend. Eiji, who was being followed, finds that Arthur and his goons have infiltrated the clinic and is taken captive. They tie him up and interrogate him about what he was doing. After he talks to save a hostage, the thugs plan to take Eiji back to Dino, their boss, so he can have his way with him and hurt Ash in the process. Before they can do this, Eiji is saved by the intervention of Ash's older brother, Griffin, a patient of the doctor's, and Shorter Wong. Although Griffin is killed, Shorter manages to drive Arthur away and rescue Eiji.
Temporarily, at least hehe.
I love this scene. It checks so many boxes for me. Manhandling, threatening, psychological torment, panic, an extended shot of Eiji's bound hands, last minute rescue. Eiji's jacket hanging off one shoulder (which is actually a nod to the manga). It's one of my favourite anime scenes.
I also love episode 9, because it has so many scenes, but none of them are particularly long and the restraints and scenarios don't hit quite as hard as this one for me.
