Easy tips to avoid plastic utensils.

How many of you have thought about ways to avoid single use plastic utensils?!

It was last May when I decided I was going to make a more conscious effort to reduce my plastic impact. Unfortunately, when it came to utensils that meant one of three things, I had to eat at the restaurant, I had to carry metal utensils with me (which I did for a while) or I could get takeout and bring it home. This was quite an annoying process because my purse is always super heavy so I knew that carrying around metal silverware was not going to work for long.

Summer is just around the corner and we all know that means more time outside. But for a lot of people it also means a lot more plastic utensils. But here is a reasonably cheap and easy solution. Bamboo Utensils!!

The full sized utensils we use for picnics and lunchboxes but the spork I keep one in my car and one in my purse so at any point during the day I have a reusable utensil with me. They are perfect because they are light, durable and full sized, not to mention it comes with a pouch to keep them all clean and together. The spork I love just as a backup and for me it is perfect but the only downside that I have discovered is that if you have larger hands it can be a bit harder to use.

Look at our handiwork! This is no Face the Foliage, but I'm still mighty proud of us: I stabbed my plastic tray of ice cubes to make crushed ice. The oversized #CorellePlate + @BambuLiving large condiment cup = 👌 oyster serving dish. @Matteleine shucked the #oysters. #Snapdragons fulfilled their decorative dream. 🐉At last, a masterpiece was born! 🔪🍋 . . . . . I've never felt so creative shucking and preparing oysters with Matthew before. The juices were always lost, the display was always horrendous, the experience never as good as oyster bars. I blamed it on not having the right equipment, I blamed it on the lack of skill. The funny thing about oysters though, is that you might find a diamond ring in them. 💍 I.e. The oyster tasting experience is here to stay. Teaming up with Matt and coming up with our homemade serve ware, manually crushing ice to create proper seating, and indulging our success was a lovely celebration for three years of dating. #AdventuresWithMLiaw #AmyNMattRxApproved . . . #ad It's a lovely, albeit smoky afternoon so I thought it might be nice to taste test my babka dough experiment on the deck. . I used this perfectly sized tray from @bambuliving made from eco friendly, sustainable, bamboo. It's sturdy and easy to clean. It held two of my - well, I am not quite sure what to call them! - treats and my mug. . One batch of dough went into little babka cups into which I added cheese filling, fruit, chocolate, or cinnamon sugar. The second batch I rolled rather like the babka I made the other day but I cut it into rounds (like cinnamon rolls). Both were topped with streusel and baked. . They were both quite yummy. I am glad I decided to play in the kitchen.
